My sibling and I now both own a copy of Good Omens :)) I love being able to put the two of them together on the shelf and have Aziraphale and Crowley leaning against each other.

Hey this TTRPG core rule book is $10 right now and I’m seriously concerned they’re getting ready to take it out of print so if you want a truly unique and gorgeous TTRPG I’d highly recommend it, I just finished reading through it and it’s such an interesting system and setting with lots to play with, couldn’t hurt to add it to some more bookshelves!

I've always thought that either other species must have swim forms that are still adapted to water, or their humanoid forms must be capable of living a semi-aquatic lifestyle - otherwise the rising water levels during the great turf war would have prompted the involvement of species outside of inklings/octolings.
Even though canon doesn't agree with me, you're probably right!
Inklings and Octolings can definitely still swim, though they are no longer dependent on water outside of needing to drink it and keeping their skin moist.
an Inkfish's main obstacle is that their skin is rather permeable, so if they absorb unclean or contaminated water it will can them very sick, very quickly. However their swim forms can extract oxygen from both liquid and air (to an extent), though they prefer ink over water in this case as their gills are more accustomed to the thicker/goopier consistency.
There would definitely be other species apart from inkfish that would still be dependent on water, most evolved marine species still have varyingly slimy/wet skin so staying moist would be important, a lot like a frog or something. Some types of fish are exempt, as their mucous layers thinned out upon becoming terrestrial but the majority of species (inkfish included) would need to like,, carry spray bottles and/or wet-wipes in their purses or something lmao.
TL:DR, everyone's still slimy from when they were in the ocean 10,000 years ago, therefore techincally everyone's still dependent on seawater in varying intensities.
Cephalopods are kinda chillin' though, they're pretty resistant to drying out and usually just start sweating/secreting ink out the skin when they start feeling dry.
