I have stated before (though rather vaguely) that Blob is not Raydian, but is instead a subspecies known as Ultrechian/Ultrechter (doesn’t matter, same thing)! They’re basically opportunistic carnivores that, while they also mainly eat fruits like Raydians do, WILL eat meat if given the option. They’re almost the same thing as Raydians from a biological standpoint, with the only difference being they can process negative energy in food form.

And then I realize I never made that post about them like I said I would, so we’re going to make this a multi-topic post now! Buckle up because I really like to ramble

Everything in this specific universe is made up of some form of energy. Color Energy is regarded as “positive energy”. It’s what plants and animals and most living creatures are made of. Color Energy is the diluted form of Pure Energy, which comes directly from the sun and dilutes as it comes into contact with Raydia (and other planets). Think of it like a prism, if it makes it any easier.

Raydians have thinner skin that allows them to take in and release Color Energy, similar to how plants function. They are, essentially, walking color energy filters, and most living things act the same way. Color Energy also manifests in the form of emotion, so when a Raydian is in a particularly good mood, they produce more color energy than normal. Negative emotions manifest in the form of Negative Energy, otherwise known as Ink, which is produced in a specific organ that I am going to call an “ink sac” because if you couldn’t tell already I’m not the most creative person when it comes to naming things

Negative Energy and Color Energy are opposites to each other. Too much Negative Energy in one area can completely negate the Color Energy present, and the same can be applied in reverse. Raydians cannot handle a high amount of Negative Energy, and Inkies cannot handle a high amount of Color Energy. They’re both opposing forces.

So what happens when a Color Energy based organism dies?

The thing is that the opposite of Color Energy is Negative Energy, and when it is absent, Negative Energy tends to fill that void. Since it manifests when they are angry or feeling any other negative emotion, when they die, their bodies quickly decompose and start producing a rather alarming amount of ink. It’s why the trees were all dead as well; without color energy, they’re simply dead.

The same thing is applied to animals. It’s why Raydians don’t eat meat: they lack the proper organs to properly process it, and even then what the hell is their body gonna do with it?

Well! Ultrechians know what to do with it!

Ultrechers live in a slightly more hostile environment. Their planet is a bit further away from Raydia, so they aren’t getting a whole lot of Color Energy as a result. So! They have to make do with the energy present. They have thicker skin because of this, which is meant to trap in whatever energy they consume. They eat fruits, which contain high amounts of Color Energy, but another good way of getting energy is by eating things that also contain it.

The only issue with this is that said energy turns into Negative Energy quickly, and this normally wouldn’t be very good,,,,, Ultrechers are built different however. They simply Don’t Give a Shit

The Negative Energy they consume is processed and instead turned into a toxin that is dispelled in their claws and their teeth, basically if they bite or scratch you, you’re going to be in pain for a while. It’s a good way to reuse the Negative Energy that would kill a Raydian in any amount, but also incredibly terrifying if you think about it too much

So anyways, back to Blob and why all of this is even relevant:

Blob was NOT raised on Ultrect. He wasn’t exposed to said low-energy environment, and didn’t develop the proper tools his species normally would. He can’t produce the venom because of how his body reacts to ink. His skin is thin, like a Raydians, due to how his powers function. Any amount of Negative Energy consumed would likely hurt him instead. He gets tempted by meat, but he doesn’t eat it because

1) He would be seen as a fucking freak, more so than he already is

2) His stomach would hurt later. It’s like being lactose intolerant but you actually listen to your gut when it tells you that You Shouldn’t Have Eaten That

He doesn’t even mind eating fruits! It’s one of the few ways he gets his energy, outside of literally sitting in paint all the time. Plus! Fruits taste good! Why would he complain about eating fruit

Oh yeah, it also hurts his stomach

The thing about Color Energy is that too much of it is ALSO a bad thing. It is a very unstable energy source, and if mixed with Negative Energy, can lead to some… unsavory events occurring (black hole). Yes, Negative Energy is a “bad” source of energy, but Color Energy can be lethal as well. Raydians, depending on their size, require a minimum amount of Color Energy to survive, but also have a maximum amount as well. Too much energy can lead to stomachaches and even death in worse cases. Ultrechers also have a limit as to how much Color Energy they can have, and it’s much LESS than Raydians due to their thicker skin.

Even though Blob was raised on Raydia, he is biologically an Ultrechian. His body will tell him that he has had WAY TOO MUCH energy in the form of him throwing it up later or just in general not feeling good after a big meal. Even though he has thinner skin due to his powers, his body and DNA are still Ultrechian, and his instincts and basic genetic programming are telling him that he has consumed way too much Color Energy in one sitting. He’s old enough to understand his limits, but Blob generally doesn’t give a shit about rules or limits, so you can imagine how family dinners go. Thanksgiving’s a bitch

He also doesn’t eat in front of people. He’s. A messy eater

Some other, smaller, headcanons because I think I’ve rambled for too long and I don’t want to give y’all migraines:

Blob is bilingual and can speak in both Raydian and Ultrechian! Both of the languages are similar to each other enough to where Raydians can (sort of) understand him when he speaks in Ultrechian, but even then he doesn’t speak often enough for this to matter much.

Blob is actually fairly introverted and doesn’t like social gatherings all that much. He can handle a conversation, just not with multiple people at the same time. He hates interviews.

I, personally, HC him as intersex and genderfluid! He literally doesn’t care about how you refer to him, as long as you’re nice about it and aren’t a fucking bigot

Blob is pansexual as well, as long as you’re nice to him then it’s fine

Blob, when angry, tends to fall back onto his native language to call you curse words you didn’t know existed

Blob actually has a bit of a temper and has a limit for how much bullshit he can handle before he simply loses his mind. He tries to be playful about things but he can only handle so much shit

Him and the CU get along well, though. They understand his boundaries enough to give him space when he needs it. He views all of them as close friends, and he even has a sibling-like relationship with both Pinky and Zip. He may have a tiny crush on Arty but he…. Doesn’t act on it in fear of being rejected

He doesn’t remember how he got his powers. It’s a fuzzy and painful memory for him, and he usually says he was born with it to get people to stop asking. He doesn’t remember, and he doesn’t want to remember.
