I am so fucking tired of playing nice to adoptive parents. Especially the ones that need the last word or who feel they are the experts. We adoptees do not need or want the perspective of the AP. Because not once in all my literal decades of doing reform work have their perspective been anything more than that of savior. "This child would be sooooo much more worse off if I hadn't saved them" or variations of that theme. When what we want is never an option for them. They never listen to our perspective.

Adoption should never be a family building tool. Build first families up first. Infant adoption must be outlawed. Supports must be given to first families (and this will probably shock the fuck out of some of you... but that includes extended first family). External care has to stop being stripping us of everything.

Last year I was diagnosed with Attenuated Psychosis Symdrome, but when I go looking for reading material to learn more about it, I mostly either get scientific articles (which I have trouble understanding) or debates on whether it's even real or not :(

If you have the time, would you be able to help find some reading material on the subject that has a bit of an easier reading level?

I found an article that states:

“The main features of attenuated psychosis syndrome parallel of the prodromal phase of schizophrenia. The person has very low-grade symptoms that can include as delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech, and the symptoms have been present for short period of time and worsened, but the symptoms are below the level of severity that would warrant a diagnosis of a psychotic disorder, such as schizophrenia.

As this is a condition for further study and not an actual diagnosis, there is no information regarding its prevalence, any co-occurring conditions, or other information that would normally be included with the description of a formal diagnostic category in the DSM-5. The condition is considered to be potentially useful in determining a potential risk that someone may develop a full-blown psychotic disorder such as schizophrenia. Some individuals who meet the specifications for attenuated psychosis syndrome are eventually diagnosed with a psychotic disorder, and some are not.”

Reading on the National Library of Medicine states:

The proposed diagnostic criteria for Attenuated Psychosis Syndrome in DSM - 5:

At least one of the following of symptoms is present in attenuated form [having been reduced in force, effect, or value], and is of sufficient severity or frequency to warrant clinical attention:

Delusions

Hallucinations

Disorganized speech.

Symptom(s) must have been present at least once per week [over a month span]

Symptom(s) must have begun or worsened in the past year

Symptom(s) is sufficiently distressing and disabling to the individual to warrant clinical attention.

Symptom(s) is not better explained by another mental disorder, including: Depressive or bipolar disorder with psychotic features and is not attributable to physiological effects of a substance or another medical condition,

Criteria for any psychotic disorder have never been met.

It looks like its being less debated on being real and more so finetuned before being approved as a formal DSM5 diagnosis.

I don't know if this was made easier to read than the medical journals, so if you have more questions feel free to shoot them over.

Shiiit I forgot to answer this at the right time —

I guess I can just do my main wip APS for this one:

Codex has a very simple, loose hierarchy given that, for most parts of the entire APS story, there’s just a lot of revolting and chaos going on. A lot of middle-class-and-under citizens are typically crushed under their President’s (dictator’s) boot, and the richer higher-ups can technically be the same way too, but they have the money to bribe their way out of problems which places them a step above everyone else but they’re just below the country’s ruler. At the very bottom would be superhumans, and then Exelonian citizens. Superhumans are relatively “new” in society’s and the government’s eyes, but a lot of them have already joined the uprising against the Codexian government and have destroyed the facility they were forced into after their exposure, so in the eyes of the government they can’t be treated as kindly and are mostly looked at as research objects. Exelonian citizens get the bottom of the ladder literally because, if anyone from Exelon decides to travel or live in Codex, they’ll be arrested and thrown into a prison nobody knows the location of. If I were to explain why, we’d probably be here for a while, so all I can say is that Exelonians are a form of magical beings too (like superhumans but with a very specific power-set that is often bifold), and Codex has had a very bloody history with Exelon itself.
