Okay, second half of chapter 28

Kanade comments that the more things that are dear to you pile up, the harder it is to choose to get rid of any. Maria tells her that if she just runs away to alcohol, she's just gonna end up with a horrible hangover but then Maria starts thinking to herself that she's the one who wants to run away

Kanade takes another look at Maria and says that she looks even more troubled than she is. Maria thinks for a moment that Kanade noticed she's gained weight, but Kanade just says "I thought you might be strict, but you're actually really nice!"

She then decides she won't give up either her TV appearances OR her job at the inn and starts falling asleep wondering if Ogawa can teach her how to make shadow clones. The owner of Flower says she has a room Kanade can sleep in, so Maria is free to go since she doesn't need to watch her anymore

Maria, stomach growling, complains that the city around dinner time is a cruel place to walk around when you're hungry and that she needs to go home and work out (reminder to everyone out there to not starve yourselves)

But suddenly a scent hits her and she collapses in hunger

It's a street stall selling ramen

The owner asks if Maria is okay. She claims she is, but he offers her some ramen anyway, saying that the stall just opened and he hasn't had customers yet, so this one's on the house. Maria's so hungry at this point she sits down and doesn't argue.

She looks at the lantern hanging there, thinking that the bold, bright color makes you forget the cold and that it reminds her of the fires she and Serena would warm themselves with while they were wandering around Ukraine with nowhere to go back home to

It's food from a completely different country than she's from, but the smell of the ramen starts to feel nostalgic to her

The man at the stall finishes preparing it and hands it to her, saying that his daughter tends to eat a lot so that's probably why he wants youngsters who are hungry to eat their fill

She ends up giving in to her "weakness" and eats the whole thing, broth and all

The man says that even if she is "weak," she isn't running away and will keep on fighting, so she's better than he is. "It's okay, everything's just fine"

Right as Maria realizes that the man she's been with this whole time is none other than Akira Tachibana, Hibiki and Shirabe arrive with some stuff they went out to buy for him

Hibiki is surprised to see Akira had already served someone to which he says he couldn't just leave a girl hungry like that

Apparently Akira had bought the cart off an acquaintance and had a bit of confidence in his ramen making skills (the flavor given the Hibiki seal of approval 🤣) and Shirabe gave him some advice, so he decided to actually open it

Shirabe: "Maria, you said you were on a diet but you're eating ramen?"

Maria (tearfully): "It's a small reward for resisting today's temptations!"

It ends saying that Maria went back down to the weight she was previously at after this

While this chapter came a bit late this month since it got pushed back, chapter 29's first half is currently scheduled for February 9

The first half of Shirabe Meshi chapter 30 is finally out after getting delayed due to the flu

It starts on a stormy night with Carol sneaking into SONG and finding the direct feedback system that Elfnein had modified

"If I use this, then my memories..."

The next day, everyone is talking about the weather the night before, particularly how much lightning there was. Genjuro jokingly asks Hibiki if her belly button got stolen (referencing a bit of folklore where Raijin will steal your belly button if you don't cover it during a storm).

Hibiki says "Master, please, that would never happen these days! It may have happened to people in the past, but if you wear a belly band, it's totally fine! That's what Dad told me!"

Tomosato: (Don't laugh...)

Fujitaka (I actually feel sorry for her...)

But that particular conversation comes to a close when the Autoscorers run in with Carol in tow. "Master started acting all cute!"

Meanwhile, poor Carol is so confused and scared due to being taken to a "strange place" by a bunch of "weirdos"

The Autoscorers discuss Carol's personality change to which Elfnein comments that it's like how she was when she was younger and her father was alive (Carol: "A girl that looks just like me?!")

Hibiki gets sad because she thinks that Carol burned away her memories after all they've been through together but Fujitaka points out they haven't detected energy great enough for that to be the case.

...Then Elfnein notices Micha's hands.

Her claws are uh...fish now. Apparently Carol got scared of them and transmuted them into something less...sharp.

Genjuro suggests getting her to the infirmary, but him being as big as he is, he scares her, so she starts freaking out and turning everything she can into fish.

Shirabe comes in with onigiri and suggesting a break right in time for them to...also get turned to fish.

Shirabe: "My salmon onigiri turned back into salmon..."

Genjuro: "At this rate we'll all be turned to salmon! We have no choice, we have to use force!"

Carol: "NOOO! SOMEONE HELP ME!"

And so Hibiki's need to protect others kicks in.

"You can't be so forceful with a crying child!" and runs off with her.

Carol: "Um, who are you?"

Hibiki: "I'm Hibiki Tachibana, age 17! My birthday is September 13, my blood type is O, my height is 157 cm, and yeah, maybe I'd LIKE to be a bit taller! I'll tell you my weight once we're better friends! My hobby is helping people and my favorite thing is Miku's food! And when it comes to the whole never having a boyfriend thing, I'm updat--"

Shirabe: "Stop! You're screaming some pretty private stuff in a public area."

Shirabe informs Hibiki that Elfnein and the others are going to investigate the cause, but in the meantime they have orders to calm Carol down, so they decide to give her some new fun memories by taking her to an amusement park

Hibiki goes to get some drinks and comes back to Carol and Shirabe sitting on a bench. Hibiki asks if she's tired, and Carol responds that when she was living her with father, she never knew the world outside of that had so many fun things to do and so many good foods to eat.

So Hibiki says she has one last place to take Carol: Her dad's ramen cart.

Carol is amazed that his food looks so good, because her dad always blew up whatever he was cooking

Some tears fall into the broth, and that's...the end of the first half. Second half will be released in a week.

okay that's great and all but hear me out. what if they had pokemon. [id in alt, more under the cut!]

hi. (wearing a shirt that says "ask me about my yakuza pokemon au" but i'm looking in a mirror so i just start going nuts right off the bat)

woah it's some guy with a dragon tattoo!! lotsa dragons, lotsa fighters, and of course THE parent pokemon!! the zangoose is part of a matching set with majima's seviper, naturally. also it matches his autism stare. blaziken's there out of respect for nugget.

GO GO HARUKA!!! lotsa baby pokemon when she's younger :] the pichu turns into an idol pikachu mainly because i wanted something for her that'd fall in line with that but i also think igglybuff is ugly. sorry. happiny's there in particular because of the crazy eldest daughter syndrome she catches from y3 onwards LOL. that caretaker role hit her hard. sorry girl.

seviper's part of the matching set with kiryu's zangoose, naturally :] plus it fits the snake thing he's got going on with his tattoo. also some dogs!! specifically some fucked up ones!! also did you know froslass only goes after men it thinks is handsome. yeah.

daigo's so funny in y2 imo. aegislash is there in particular because it detects innate qualities of leadership!! anyway that bisharp becomes a kingambit when he's chairman (thumbs up!!)

tiger man gets the tiger man. cat. lots of big burly guys for the big burly guy. etc etc. i like that his training in y4 is just to go mining so i HAD to have at least one fossil mon. hi bastiodon!!!

yasuko's getting hit with the one-two of Beauty(TM) and Small(TM) versions of what her older brother's got :']

tanimura gets a lot of fighty guys, in particular i tried to find ones that sorta fit with the little asia stuff he's got going on. blastoise is there because of the tortoise thing and he's got a gun so ??? actually i might switch blastoise out if i end up exploring this au more LOL and zebstrika's there because he's a horse girl <3

akiyama!! a bunch of kicky guys to fit his fighting style and talonflame because of his phoenix thing. audino because he's the lifeline of kamurocho :]

hana!! why does she not have a last name!!! anyway lotsa guys to match her fighting style :]

magikarp -> gyarados is literally THE most obvious thing to pick out for nishikiyama but if it works it works!!!

makoto and tachibana get a matching set of eeveelutions :] i think a shaymin shows itself before makoto either when she gets her watch back or when she gets the new watch strap

i'm not 100% sure for most of these teams if anyone wants to share their own ideas i'm all ears!!
