On August 18, 1948, thousands of people from all walks of life stood on line during the day for the opportunity of passing by the body of Babe Ruth, who had died of cancer two days before, as it lay in state in the rotunda of the ballpark where he achieved his greatest fame.

Of course, Mabel wants to get Ginny out of the tank, but we don't know if that would be good or bad. We don't know whether Ginny is even alive or dead. Theo can only stare in shock and horror.

Finny realizes things are even worse.

They can't do much else because staff are coming.

Thankfully, the staff don't seem to realize anything has been tampered with. They think everything has been "packed up" and is ready to go (or stay, idk).

But Susan (?) reminds them that Ginny's fledging was unexpected and asks who is next.

And ah. Now we know why Theo is so scared.

What will these top students do now, knowing that Theo is next to fledge? I guess that largely depends on how much time they have....

Jobs were hard to come by even before the Depression. Out of the 6,000 men and women who stormed the Free Employment Agency at 60 Lafayette St. on August 18, 1920, only 135 found jobs.

This was the "Females" section. Job postings were sex-segregated in those days, with women being offered positions in domestic service and low-level clerical work. This practice continued for more than 50 years.

In his head, Finny confirms this is a dissection table... or at least can be used for that purpose. Also, we finally have confirmation that the drug testing facility was German.

Really odd to say "ceased to function", but that might be part of how Finny dealt with death back then.

Ugh, it's just so sad to see her like this.

Though I still say she might be alive. Doubtful, but possible... for now.
