The handsome and talented Glenn Herbert Gould born 25 September 1932 in Toronto, Canada, was a Canadian classical pianist. He was considered one of the most famous and celebrated of the 20th century pianists, and was renowned as an interpreter of the keyboard works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Certainly too was he considered to be something of a controversial figure, not only in his private life which was shrouded in mystery and many rumors abound about his phobias and pill-poppings for a number of maladies, many of which was imaginary. His sexuality was also questionable which was assumed to be asexual or gay. Also his pianism had invited controversy at least on three of his solo piano recordings: Mozart's Rondo a la Turca and Beethoven's Appassionate and Moonlight Sonatas. All mainly due to the interpretation choices of tempo, either were too slow or too fast as compared to the traditional versions of most pianists at that time. He died sadly on 4th October 1982 at the age of 50 of a stroke 🔥🎹📸

Beatified March 20,1993 by Pope St. John Paul II

Blessed Dina Bélanger was born in Quebec into a prominent Canadian family. She had a normal childhood where she excelled in music. She studied in New York City, planning to be a concert pianist when she decided to enter the Congregation of Jesus-Maria religious order taking the name Marie de Sainte-Cécile de Rome and as a nun taught music. Her life plan was one of daily Mass, Holy Communion, prayer, especially the rosary and meditation, which was deeply developed. She was a mystic who received revelations from Our Lord and the invisible stigmata. During WWI, she offered herself in reparation for those who suffered. Dina died of tuberculous and is called “The Little Flower of Canada”.

Thank you so much for this AMAZING poll idea, sorry to bombard your probably v full inbox but...! I would also like to add some Plummer-ganda and say: this man really DOES have the range. Yes, Christopher Plummer's Captain is a dreamboat. But that was his romantic role BREAKTHROUGH age 36[!], and was known more for his suave, cunning bad guys and historical/ period drama gents that anyone would swoon for. Gave us a Sherlock portrayal to rival Rathbone, Brett, et al. . We could have lived in an alternate universe where he played Dr Dolittle alongside Sammy Davis Jr, and was a top choice for Gandalf in 2001. He's still the ONLY Canadian actor to win the triple crown of acting. If you want to watch more of his work I would personally recommend: - Hamlet at Elsinore - Inside Daisy Clover - Return of the Pink Panther - Murder by Decree - Waterloo [mostly just to look at him do his thing, don't worry about the rest] A highly accomplished pianist, DID sing in stage musicals [as much as TSoM would suggest otherwise], a lover of nature, encouraged education and study in everyone, and was the most polite, thoughtful, kind and devoted friend and partner.

SALTWATER MELODIES CHAPTER 37

Mila looked back and forth at both of them, mouth flapping silently. “How?” she finally asked.

“We have no idea,” Viktor said. “Probably magic.”

“Magic is not real,” Chris sputtered.

“Sure looks real to me,” Yuri said.

After falling into a magical lagoon during a once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, music students Viktor, Mila, and Yuri find themselves transforming into merfolk whenever they touch water… and considering that they live on the coast, that’s probably going to cause some trouble. Things get even weirder when they discover strange powers that may have bigger effects on their daily lives than they could ever imagine.

Add to the mix a thalassophobic pianist, a marine biologist (possibly cryptozoologist) who might actually be completely insane, and a treasure-hunting Canadian… one thing’s for sure: their lives sure just got a whole lot more interesting.

Tuesday afternoon, when Yuri was headed to his last class of the day, his English Lit teacher caught him in the hallway.

“Yuri, the principal called me a minute ago. She needs you in the office; you’re excused from ninth period.”

Yuri stared at her. “Why?”

“She didn’t say,” his teacher answered, looking uncomfortable. “But… she did say your parents just arrived.”

Yuri hadn’t spoken to his mom in a couple of days; she was staying at her coworker’s house, sleeping on the couch, and mostly texted Yuri when she wasn’t busy with… something. Every time she called Yuri to talk to him, it turned into a one-sided conversation where she was trashing Dad about his choices, trying to get Yuri to agree with her.

The last time they’d talked, he’d hesitated to say anything nasty about Dad, and Mom had gotten so angry that she’d hung up on him before he could defend himself. Yuri had remembered how stressed out Dad and Dedushka had become, and how Dad would sit at the kitchen table surrounded by papers that looked like bills and receipts, and he couldn’t bring himself to be angry at Dad for Mom leaving.

Especially since the real reason Mom had left had been… Yuri himself.

For a long, stupid moment, Yuri wondered if they were pulling him out of school to tell him they were getting counseling, and Mom was moving back in. But his gut told him otherwise. He waved goodbye to his teacher and headed downstairs to the main office, feeling like one of the accused witches in The Crucible walking to the gallows.

In this chapter: Yuri's life takes a sharp turn for the worse, in more ways than one.

A ship I have with said character: Abigail/Skwisgaar ;;0;;, Abigail/Amber, and I still have a soft spot for Abigail/Charles even though I hc him as gay, Abigail/Magnus in the veerrrry specific context I set up in that old fic I wrote (they bond pre-dsr over their shared frustration with Dethklok, but Abigail sees Magnus as a dark mirror into what she could become if she lets her anger fester, so she bounces)

A BROTP I have with said character: Abigail + Charles + Knubbler (they go on work retreats)

A NOTP I have with said character: Again, I really don't have notps. As long as people aren't weird.

A random headcanon: She's Afro-Caribbean, she's Canadian, she likes noise music, her mother was a classical pianist, she's now in a place in her career where she can insist people use her full last name instead of calling her "Abigail R.", had her first queer experience in a night club in Brussels, she does really hard crosswords because she likes to push herself but she always does them in pencil because there's still a part of her that still has doubts.

General Opinion over said character: Mtl really went off making a woman who I believe someone would tank a career and a life-long friendship for. But in all seriousness, I think she's a fun character. I love how she has a weirdo streak instead of her just coming in as a stale love interest (which she does kinda become unfortunately). Most of my complaints are "I wish she was weirder" or "I wish she had more screentime," so the pieces were there I guess.
