New cosplay in progress!! Some of you already guessed it, but I’ve been working on Manon!! I love her! I have such a crush on her girlfriend (I said what I said) Marisa, but don’t think I can pull her off-Marisa is an Absolute Unit. And I adore Manons “Lady Gaga” outfit!! She’s almost complete, my living room was a nightmare of pink feathers for a week. Before anyone says it, I did raise the waistband a little just last night. I made the waist too big and thee pants weren’t sitting properly in this pic! SOON 🦢🩷

Being the queen of unfinished cosplay projects, I have been buried in trying to making deceptively complex design: Tingyun from Honkai Starrail.

I’m a fan of Honkai Impact 3rd (unpopular opinion but Honkai is better than Genshin) and loved Tingyun’s design when I got my first glimpse of Star Rail characters. Also, I liked some of the challenges of her design since they would make for a great competitive cosplay. (References of character below)

I don’t have any one piece finished yet since I have been jumping between so many different parts. Once I have main sections finished, I’ll be doing more posts across my social media.

So far I have been drafting garment patterns by hand, digital patterning, 3D printing, working with interfacing and heat n bond, pressing seams, hand sewing, gradient dyeing fabric on a stove, wrapping foam in fabric, foam work, sewing fake fur, wig styling, custom printing fabric, making tassels, and the endless torture of priming and sanding 3D prints.

Tingyun isn’t even halfway done yet and she’s already a beast of a project. She’s pushing me as a craftsman so I’m really excited to see how she turns out in the end.

There’s no particular order to these photos. They’re just here to give you an idea of the chaos that’s been happening in my craft room.

🎋A Shizun in the making! 🪷 I’m thrilled to share my current costume progress of Chu Wanning from the danmei novel “ErHa” or “Dumb Husky And His White Cat Shizun” in honor of his birthday!! Yes it is August 9th in China already! I have been planning and collecting materials for months but started sewing just in the last couple of weeks. The lil video shows the various layers coming together, the belt is a stand-in from my Lan Wangji costume, and there is still A LOT left to do. Yes it is ANOTHER all white hanfu 😆 but the overall look will be much more regal and formal than my last one. For Chu Wanning, I’m taking inspiration from the elusive mobile game designs and various official illustrations of the character but then throwing in my own design aesthetics as well. The ErHa novel is not as well/known as the MTXT works (or is it for the faint of heart) but it is the one that has left the deepest impression on me and I knew fairly early on that a Shizun cosplay would be inevitable. The novel had been licensed in English and the first volume will come out later this year so I hope more readers will get to experience the brilliance and core-cutting angst of ErHa. Video

Circular LED panels are wired and ready to start attaching to the rest of the armor. I've programmed these to work with an IR remote I had, so I can have multiple colors and settings that I can easily change at a convention. This is for my Guild Wars 2 norn cosplay (royal guard outfit). Materials are worbla, plexiglass, apoxie sculpt, and foam.

Figuring out the main fabric on Ganyu was an ordeal, but I finally feel like this project is starting to come together. I honestly wasn’t expecting to end up with a metallic brocade, but fell in love with this blue and silver brocade from CosplayFabrics. It has a cool frosty look and the details pop nicely on it without getting lost! As much as I loved the concept of using the original cloud brocade I had for Ganyu, it just wasn’t meant to be. The main part of the corset is done and I’ll have to figure out how I want to handle the details. I liked the idea of machine embroidery, but could also see the glitter HTV still working well for the other details too. The main fabric issues really set me back on all my Katsu progress, so I unfortunately don’t see Phoenix happening in time (the skirt is just going to be too much work), but I am confident that Ganyu will be coming with me to Katsu ❄️✨

Hello friends! It’s been a goddamn hot minute, and I apologize. I’m mostly active on TT these days because they play most nice with my Timelapse videos of my work. Most stuff gets reposted on Instagram as well, but I’ll try and be better about posting progress here too.

I’m currently working on a Sesshoumaru cosplay. I’ve got the first triplet of blossoms on kikkō (1/14) finished, and now I’m working on the red fieldwork of his collar, but instead of solid I’m doing a seigaiha design. My goal is to have him done by 2024 for competition: what’s another year on a costume that’s been in the works for three this December?

Adventures of a foam gremlin learning a fancy needlework technique (Part 1)

Cinder’s fancy dress from RWBY has not given my brain peace for years. Now that I’m cosplay crafter, I really want to make this and do more than use some cheap poly satin and flat HTV details for the gold appliqué

So, naturally I decided to dive right into the deep end and pick one of the most time consuming and fiddly dimensional technique: Goldwork.

There are several different types of goldwork such as cut work (working with wires that have to be cut to length) or couching (metallic threads that are stitched down and then plunged to the back). Below are some example pieces that use a mixture of purls (coils of metal wire) and Japanese gold work thread (thread core with flat metallic strips wrapped around it in a spiral pattern). This is done over padding to create a shiny, 3D piece with lots of texture.

My first step was patterning. I don’t have the dress done yet but I did drape some fabric over a dress form and trace half of the design with plans to mirror the shapes for ease of positioning later on. I transferred this to Procreate to refine the sketch and simultaneously mirror it. I like to use Adobe Illustrator for tiling out images to scale for printing so I exported the Procreate sketch into Adobe. To scale, this is 20 x 28 inches.

I printed it out and traced one of the smaller shapes into some dull yellow felt. My initial plan was to use smooth purl with only one layer of felt padding. I didn’t really like this so I decided to add bright check for some sparkle. My first attempt was far too wide and flat. I salvaged the lengths of wire and went to adjust my pattern to have thinner, more consistent lines.

I also remembered that I need to stretch the smooth purl slightly before stitching so my next trial run will be much smooth. Updates coming soon!

🌙Yuheng of the Night Sky✨ - Makeup test for Chu Wanning to soothe my insecurities! Every cosplayer knows this feeling. Sometimes you just gonna pin on the unfinished costume and take some pics in front of your closet to visualize yourself as the character! I had looked at Wanning’s costume on my dress form for so long and got all weird about whether I could pull off his haughty untouchable Yuheng Elder look. This man is described with “phoenix eyes” and “sword-like eyebrows” and I needed to see if I could do that lol. So I did a test makeup with a half-styled wig (still need to cut & fluff the bangs) and the unfinished costume just pinned on…. and now I feel so much better about everything, phew! Cameo by the $20 husky plushie I found at IKEA of all places! Until I meet a Mo Ran cosplayer, I guess I will just carry the plushie around at cons looool!
