#Danny is getting all the good gossip from the ghosts

Ghosts Tell Me
~
Ghosts gather near the place where something bad is going to happen,
Danny with his ghost sense tends to notice before anyone else and tends to react outwardly before the danger even happens, gaining a reputation of seeing the future,
Ghosts also tell Danny things, causing Danny to know more about situations and the people around him, it comes of as suspicious.
~
Danny pulling away a snack from his coworker: "Careful your allergic to these ingredients!"
Coworker: "How the hell...I've never mentioned that to anyone."
~
Danny on a phone call with his friends while doing his nightly walks in Gotham: "Yeah so apparently the second Robin who is now Red Hood has very personal beef with the clown here cuz he got killed by him after being sold out by his bio mom, which really sucks for the poor guy."
Oracle who has been keeping an Eye on Danny cuz he's very suspicious from an outsiders pov: "Hey B, I think we have a problem."
~
Danny notices that the ghost in Gotham tends to gather where something bad is going to happen, the more they are the worse the situation will be: *glowing smoke leaves from his mouth* "Yikes! Very bad vibes here, nope!"
Gothamites who at this point recognize him and know the drill and quickly pack up their things to leave:

Tucker dug himself in quite a deep hole.
At first, it started because he was bored. He also wanted to test his skills in tech, since he was trained by Technus to use technology in a way nobody living could even do. He first did some simple probing, learning about the system that Batman used and learned how to keep his tracks hidden. He honestly thought breaking into the White House or NASA would be harder than breaking into Batman’s files, but it wasn’t. Everything was absurdly easy to get to. He could see the workarounds in the code just as easily as he could breathe.
Once he learned how to erase his tracks completely, he started with basic knowledge from Batman’s system. Over the course of a month, he read all the police reports, hero and villain reports, and the contingency plans that Batman had. Boy was Batman a paranoid man.
Then he delved deeper. He learned everything there was to know from over a decade of vigilante work. Then he used the Batcomputer (he had found out that it was actually called that from Nightwing himself. He had camera access, of course he was going to spy on the bats.) to hack into the Justice League system. He had to stop the manic chuckle that threatened to spill past his lips. He was just like the ghosts in a way that he loved to indulge his obsessions. And stalking vigilantes had become one of his.
Danny and Sam knew about what he was doing and never tried to stop him. The reason was simple: Tucker had warded against Amity Park so thickly, that not even magic users knew of the town’s existence. It wouldn’t show up on a map, or in books, or in history. Tucker might have used Clockwork for the last part, but the time ghost allowed him to hide Amity Park from the world. So there must have been a reason the ghost had allowed it.
After Tucker gained access to the Justice League files, he had become worried. There was a lot that they didn’t tell the public. The more he read, the more resentful he got. Failed alien invasions, kidnapping, mind control, cloning… the list went on and on.
If he didn’t know that the Justice League were the good guys… he might think they were the villains.
But they were the good guys, right?
He wasn’t so sure anymore.
It had been almost four months since he had first hacked Batman’s computer. From what he could tell after hacking Bruce Wayne’s cell phone, nobody knew that he was inside their systems. Nobody was that good of an actor. He would watch the Justice League briefings, watch their day to day, learn all the gossip, and then he would check Batman’s computer. It was a ritual he had started. A way to keep Amity Park safe should the Justice League turn against them or the world. He made his own contingency plans based off of Batman’s plans. The exception being that as a last resort, his plans would be fatal to anyone who struck against him. He just hoped that the day would never come.
Everything changed when Pariah Dark stole Amity Park. It had taken the Justice League almost two days to realize that there was a gigantic crater in Illinois. Nobody knew what had happened. When the city reappeared, the borders that had once protected it were also stripped away. The systems had been damaged in the fight, and in the teleportation process. There were so many that had died in the battle, so many more that were now homeless, or orphans. The city mourned for the dead—and the dead mourned their sacrifice. The evil King had been dethroned, but would Amity Park be the same? The world now knew it existed, and there was no ghost portal for him to run to Clockwork from. They were on their own.
As Tucker watched the Justice League try to help the citizens, he felt anger in the pit of his stomach. These people, these ‘heroes’, what would they learn about his people? Were they going to hurt them like they’ve hurt their own?
No. He was not going to let them hurt anyone from Amity Park.
He solicited all of the teenagers of Amity Park to help him rebuild the borders. Kick out the Justice League. His plan was met with some resistance, but they trusted Tucker. Within 24 hours, they had gotten the borders back online. The Justice League were then forced out of the town, and the town disappeared from existence once more.
Now if only he could get rid of the Justice League that tried to linger. Batman himself was proving difficult to get rid of. Especially since all of his bats kept trying to come out to play. Well Tucker had an ace up his sleeve too, and two could play that game.

DPXDC prompt: Parents don’t approve of Dead on main
Fentons are geniuses but not multitaskers. They’re used to giving their all to the most important thing on the list, forgetting even food and sleep, and then going back to something else.
So when they find out that Danny is Phantom, they panic and can’t think of anything else. Well, until they see the Gotham News on TV. What does it matter if their boy’s ghost or not? He's in bad company now and dating a crime lord! That's a real problem. No time to whine about their research about the nature of ghosts. Their boy is in danger! Change of priorities, urgent change of priorities!
~~~~~
So, when Danny moves in with Jason because of identity reveal, Batman prepares for various outcomes. To the flow of GIWs in Gotham, to the parents of the boy who may continue to hunt him and even to the likelihood that Maddie and Jack will accept their child without any questions. Bruce is a genius, but he forgets to include one important variable in the equation, namely his son. Despite the anti-hero’s current status, Red Hood is still remembered by the general public for his bloody methods of controlling Crime Alley. Which could definitely bother..anyone, to be honest. And it's understandable that video of Red Hood and Phantom beating Black Mask up on news did not make a pleasant first impression.
However, Bruce himself know a completely different side of his son and therefore could not tolerate the completely unfounded accusations from Maddie. Batman: How dare you! My boy is an angel. Your son is incredibly lucky to have such a thoughtful and caring partner. Jack: Yeah? I don't think so. How do we know he’s not just going to use Danno powers in his criminal plans? Maddie: We’re taking our boy home and it’s out of the question. Batman: Yeah? And how do we know you’re not just taking him for your experiments? Danny *whispers*: Um, Jay, we should go away, if you remember. Red Hood *whispers*: Yeah, yeah, I know. But just listen to it. Usually we can not get a word out of him. A temporary cure for emotional constipation is a true miracle. May your parents stay longer if, you know, they will not try to shoot you or smth else?
~~~~~
Maddie at home*aggressively filing a petition against anti-ecto laws*: I don’t care if the parental rights aren’t over the ghosts. How dare a bloody furry tell me I have no official right to take my son home and shove my own quotes in my face calling him a thing?!
Vlad who has long wanted to get rid of GIW *enters the house*: Bonjour, need a helping hand? Jack and Maddie *exchange glances without knowing if Danny’s secret should be revealed to their friend*. Vlad: Oh, for Ancients’s sake. *Snaps his fingers and goes Plasmius* Vlad: I’m also a stakeholder in it, okay? ~~~after two hours of talking~~~ Jack: Wait, V-man, if you know about Danny being Phantom, you know about his boyfriend too? Vlad: Red Hood? How could I not. I often visit Gotham for business deals. This is a favorite topic of newspapers and gossip. I don’t know who he is without a mask but I must admit the guy has a good aim, a lot better than you, Jack. Maddie: *pulls out the Ghost Peeler*

DP x DC AU: Letters and Paper goods are easy to store, and therefore, easy to hide. Danny has drama to monger though.
Tim Drake becomes a ward of Bruce Wayne at the same time the Drake Corporation is crumbling, and his father's health is declining. Dana, his father's physical therapist turned new wife, isn't optimistic these days, and Tim can read the writing on the wall.
Times have changed and Bruce and Dick are treating him with kid gloves. Jason Todd is alive again, been there suffered that. Young Just-Us has proven yet again to be his true family... But Bruce 'welcomes' him home the second the fake uncle is sniffed out.
So, Tim rationalizes, If Drake Corp is going down, then so shall the reason he spent his childhood abandoned. The many, many archeology digs his parents left him for over the years and their many, many stolen historical pieces. Tim is ready and able to get rid of them all.
He first returns the artifacts that have obvious origins to the people with whom they belong. Then it starts to get a little hazy as to where each item stolen is from. The paper goods are the hardest to place.
Years later, Tim has almost completely emptied his parent's old home of their stolen goods. By now, he runs a fortune 500 company and is working as Red Robin. Going through the last of the archives means going through the very last objects his parents ever preferred over his company, and he can't wait to be rid of them.
A glowing green envelope however... this one he feels compelled to keep. He hadn't known it back when he started this project- but somehow his Parents had found objects drenched in the essence of the Lazarus Pits. And it wasn't just one letter, it was dozens and dozens.
Tim Drake knew it would be risky to move them, but he needed to get these letters to an ex-league member to understand what the language of the dead was trying to proclaim.
_____
Danny hates a fetch quest but apparently Ghost Writer is having a bad day. It starts with Danny running by the guys library to have a chat when all of a sudden, the question of certain... ghost relations... came up. Danny is always more than thrilled to hear about how the various ancient-as-in-old ghosts interacted with the Ancients-as-in-yikes ghosts.
Ghost Writer finally admitted to the monarch in training that if he wanted to know so badly, that he could track down Clockworks old letters. They'd been scattered well before Ghost Writer could properly work on the ghost archives (read: was still alive), and it wasn't until he'd long worked on the library that such affairs were noted as missing.
The potential for gossip was just too good! A call home to Sam, Tuck and Jazz to let them know he was on an adventure, and then Danny flew off with little more than some hints by GW and an annoyed nod of cryptic agreement by CW.
Danny goes about wondering Gotham as himself, not yet seeing the need to be Phantom, when he runs into the very guy he was looking for.
"Hey- you don't happen to have a shit ton of letters written in the language of the dead do you?" Danny smiles as innocently as possible as he watches all seven stages of grief play out on the guy's face. Then something changes and Danny can tell that this guy is like, scary competent.
"I do, however, I was double crossed and a shit ton of assassins are on their way to try and take them."
"Uh... Bummer for them I guess? I'll just take them and go- I don't even really need to keep them if you want em back-"
"Assassins. They won't exactly leave empty handed."
"Huh. Well... Wanna come with? These are supposed to have some pretty juicy drama in them." Danny awkwardly places a hand on the back of his neck.
A knife being thrown in their direction was enough to get this guy to make a decision.
"Let's go spill some tea then."
Danny grins as he pulls the guy through a rapidly drawn portal, ignoring the wide eyes he makes. Turns out his name is Tim, and walking him through afterlife drama is the best- how does he know so many dead assassins??? One of these letters is about a guy who took Tim's spleen??

A Little bird told me
Danny knew his dimension didn't need him. It had been a long time since it stopped needing him, a long time since he had to be content to spend most of his days in the Infinite Realms. His sister and friends were too busy these days to pay attention to him; Danny understood, it's not like he could work or have a job, considering he'd stopped growing at 21 and people would start asking questions eventually.
Honestly, it was a relief that he'd even been able to grow up to that age, Clockwork's knowing look told him he had help with it.
So, he distracted himself by learning things from the other ghosts in the Realms, who were definitely as bored as he was. He even managed to get Vlad to teach him duplication, but it wasn't that interesting after a while. Though he had become interested in the different dimensions that Clockwork watched over.
The problem was that there was one dimension that had caught his attention (one full of heroes and magic) but they always made the worst decisions. There came a point where he decided to interfere, Clockwork seemed amused so he figured he wasn't going to stop him.
As he thought about how to infiltrate (definitely not as a hero, he loved his retirement, thank you very much), he remembered a rather...odd power he had recently discovered.
Danny had discovered that he could shapeshift. The problem was that he could only shapeshift into dead animals and well, while it was fun to scare others, he didn't know how well people would take a ghost crow with ectoplasm coming out of it's wounds.
Figuring it was better than nothing, he transformed into a bird and flew through the portal; he flew towards John Constantine, who seemed fed up with his life. Constantine knew the bird was fucking weird the moment it sit on his shoulders but he had better things to take care of, like the demon in front of him.
Said bird apparently knew the way to defeat the demon, because he started naming the ingredients needed to banish it. Constantine saw it with narrowed eyes and asked if he wanted his soul, the bird pecked him, looking annoyed.
From there, seeing that the dead bird was doing no harm, Constantine let it stay. It was oddly useful and he had sold his soul for less.
Danny spent his days whispering things to Constantine to defeat enemies and the hellbazer gave him cookies in return (the halfa really wanted to be offended), when the League saw Constantine with a dead crow on his shoulder they wondered if he had finally lost his mind.
John commented that his name was Ghosty (he was pecked again) and that he was useful, unfortunately for the superhero community, Constantine had never been that useful and therefore they couldn't complain (but why did he suddenly know all the existing gossip?, he kept bribing them with it! His crow looked amused too).
Every time Constantine won a battle without explanation, someone would make the mistake of asking how he did it. With a shit-eating grin, Constantine would point to his shoulder and say "a little bird told me."
Danny was so tempted to shape-shift just to bite his head off, but the cookies were good.

Forgotten Demon Twin 9/?
Prev | Next
Danny came face-to-face with green eyes.
Damian was here.
“Hey Val, can we have that order to go?”
Tucker and Sam looked toward where Danny’s attention was and immediately understood. They looked at each other before turning toward the half-ghost, worried.
“Sure thing,” Valerie said while looking a bit confused. Curiosity swam in her eyes. Sam paid for the food, and they stood to the side, silent.
“Hey Fenturd!”
Danny sighed. He really didn’t want to deal with Dash right now, especially with Damian watching.
“What do you want, Dash?”
“Because of you, I got thrown earlier. It’s time for me to return the favor,” he said while hitting his left hand with his right fist.
From the corner of his eyes, Danny saw the man, Dick, hold Damian down. His twin brother looked livid.
“Can we do this later,” he asked, “I’m not in the mood, Dash. I’ve had a pretty shitty day.”
“And it’s about to get worse.”
Danny didn’t even try to dodge the fist. He had to keep his cover, after all. It’s not as if Dash’s hit hurt anyway. His grandfather, hell, Damian has hit him harder than Dash ever could. Danny instinctively closed his eyes.
The hit never came.
When he opened his eyes, Dick held Dash’s fist.
“I think that’s enough, don’t you?”
Dick was glaring at Dash, and holy shit did he look scary. Well, he was a vigilante.
Dash flinched a bit and then backed off. But not before giving Danny a murderous look. Great, something else he would have to deal with at school. Why did these people have to show up and mess with his life? He had been doing fine until they decided to meddle.
“Here’s your order,” Valerie said. She stared at Dick and then toward Danny.
“Danyal, how could you let trash like that bother you? We taught you better than that.”
Danny scowled and ignored his twin, “Thanks, Val.”
He got the order and walked out of the diner with Sam and Tucker following behind him. It didn’t deter Damian.
“Dami,” the man, Dick, said his brother’s name in a warning tone. Who would’ve thought the precious heir would ever allow anyone to talk to him that way?
Danny felt a hand on his shoulder, stopping him. He didn’t think. He took the hand and flipped the person attached to it. Unfortunately, Damian didn’t land on his ass but did a flip in the air before landing on his feet in a crouch.
People were staring at him. His classmates were pointing and whispering to each other. Fuck! So much for keeping a low profile. He could imagine the gossip being born.
“What do you want,” Danny asked, “You’re just ruining the life I’ve made here.”
“I want you to come home, Danyal. You belong with father and me.”
Damian saw Danyal’s face darken with anger.
“It’s Danny. And I already have a dad. His name is Jack Fenton. Leave me alone, Damian Wayne.”
“Did he just say ‘Wayne’?” People were muttering and looking through their phones. Some were even taking pictures.
“Tt,” so much for a low profile.
“Not so fun to have your cover blown, is it akhi?”
Danyal left with his two friends, leaving Damian behind.
____
John Constantine, Hellblazer, occult detective, the Laughing Magician, was not having a good time before the Bat called. Batman told John about the Anti-Ecto Acts, and he could feel himself getting an aneurism.
Who the fuck decided that putting a hit out on the denizens of the Infinite Realms was a good idea? He knew it was against them because only creatures from the Infinite Realms produced and used ectoplasm. He didn’t know much about Infinite Realms, so he sat down with as many books as he could find.
John took a swig of scotch straight from the bottle. Then, he started researching.
Contrary to what most people thought, John spent more time in books and doing research than fighting monsters and demons. He had told Bats to give him a few hours to learn more.
What he found worried him. There were very few weaknesses that these so-called ghosts had. Some of them had never been human, to begin with, and were personifications of concepts. Dreams, time, nature. They were more akin to gods.
And the bloody US government had basically declared war on these beings.
John sighed as he turned the page to the book he was reading. It was going to be a long day.
Hmm, maybe he should call for some help. Deadman might know more about the ghosts of the Infinite Realms.
Making up his mind, John started the ritual to summon the other members of Justice League Dark. Besides, what’s the point of being part of a team if you don’t get help occasionally?

Danny had decided to leave his friends behind. He just wanted to be alone. After what happened in Nasty Burger, Danny felt tired.
He opened the door to his house and was met with Vlad’s smirking face.
Fuck.
“Hello, Dann-o! Vlad decided to come visit us,” his dad said with feigned enthusiasm. That was a first.
His mom came from the kitchen holding cups of hot tea.
“I can see that,” Danny said, “to what do we owe this?”
“Oh, you know, I’ve found out some interesting things and wanted to make sure secrets weren’t being spilled. Yowch!”
Danny suppressed a giggle. His mom ‘accidentally’ dropped some of the tea on Vlad’s crotch.
“Oh, I am so sorry about that. Let me go get a clean towel for you.”
“I’ll be in my room,” Danny said as the chaos unfolded. Besides, he wanted to know why Plasmius was here. He knew the moment he locked himself in his room, a duplicate of the older halfa would be there.
Lo and behold, he had been right.
“So, Daniel, or should I say Danyal? It’s time we talked, hmm?”
Danny tensed. Vlad knew.
Fuck!

What’s This! The Consequences of My Actions!
Summary:
It was about damn time Danny did something irreversibly stupid and started dealing with the consequences.
Word Count: 2779 || AO3 Link
[First Part]
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH this fic ate my son. Anyway, this is a filler meant to connect Treats and Threats to a longer fic that I’ll hopefully start on soon, because of course this AU is now getting fanfic’ed >:3c
[Shared Cujostody AU Masterpost]
—-
Danny carefully looked out around the corner. The school hallway was as always full of other students making their way to the next period, but he was looking for one person in particular.
Sighing in relief when he confirmed Valerie was nowhere to be seen, he relaxed a bit and started walking towards his locker. Making sure to keep an eye out for her pretty dark curls just in case.
It was honestly a miracle he managed to avoid her for so long. He was sure she would hunt him down like an animal (or more like his ghost half) before the first period even started, but he hadn’t even seen her all day.
Was she even at school? A sudden guilt filled him. What if him knowing she’s the Red Huntress had stressed her out so much she was now laying in bed terrified that he told everyone at school?
Of course he would never. He knew exactly what it’s like to have a secret identity, but she didn’t know that.
(He also tried to ignore how the idea of her not trusting him kinda hurt. He had no right to feel that way, he was literally lying to her every time they spoke lately.)
He was focused on pulling out the right books for his third period when someone approached him from behind and put a hand on his shoulder. Yelping, he immediately spun around to be greeted with a sight of a laughing Tucker.
‘’I hate you.’’ Danny spat annoyed, turning back to his books.
‘’Is he still afraid of Valerie finding him?’’ he heard Sam ask as she approached the two of them.
‘’I’m not afraid.’’ he said at the same time as Tucker confirmed with a ‘’Yep.’’
‘’Honestly Danny, you did this to yourself.’’ Sam continued. He gave up with the books so he could look at her, but the moment he did, he saw a disapproving expression on her face. ‘’How many times did we tell you to be careful? You slipped up so many times already, it was about damn time you did something irreversibly stupid.’’
‘’Might as well fess up everything, you know.’’ Tucker butted in.
‘’What? No.’’ Danny glanced at him in disdain. ‘’Are you kidding? She would kill me.’’
‘’Isn’t she gonna do that the next time she sees you anyway? Either of you?’’
‘’No. I’ll charm my way out of it.’’
Sam made an unimpressed noise, while looking behind his back. ‘’Better start working that charm then, ‘cuz here she comes.’’ she pointed out.
Danny turned around in horror and yep. There she was. She just walked out of Lancer’s class and spotted him. He didn’t manage to even think of disappearing into thin air. Valerie’s eyes widened for a second before turning into an angry glare. She started making her way over to him.
He was in trouble alright.
‘’Good luck man. It was nice knowing you!’’ he heard Tucker say as he and Sam ditched him. Some friends they were.
Well he just had to act casual. Like nothing was wrong! Yeah! That sounded like a great plan!
When she was close enough he gave her an awkward wave. ‘’Uh…Hi Val! What’s up? Did you do that trig homework Lancer assigned us? It was horrible-’’
‘’We need to talk.’’ she interrupted and without stopping started dragging him somewhere by the collar of his shirt.
She didn’t even bother to make sure that no one sees them when she promptly shoved him into the janitor closet and locked the door behind them. The gossip girls were gonna have a field day today.
Thanks to his in-human sight he could clearly see her struggle to find the light switch. He kinda hoped she wouldn’t, just to prolong the inevitable butt kicking he was about to get, but she eventually turned on the weak light bulb hanging over their heads. Now he could see her green gaze peering into his more clearly.
His heart was beating out of his chest for more than one reason.
‘’Did he tell you?!’’ she whispered angrily.
That was not what he expected to hear.
‘’Did who tell me what?’’
‘’Did Phantom tell you?’’ she asked again, slower, more uncertain. She backed away a bit, her back leaning against the closed door. ‘’…Who I am…?’’
Of course she’d blame his alter ego first. He shouldn’t even be surprised at this point, but the question still caught him off guard.
‘’Who you are…? You’re Valerie Gray? We’re friends…? I don’t need a ghost to tell me that.’’ Yes. Play dumb, Fenton. Maybe she’ll buy it. Could he actually gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss his way out of this?
‘’Don’t try to gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss your way out of this, Danny.’’
Damn she knew him well. Kinda embarrassing for her to not have figured out his identity yet.
‘’He didn’t tell me. I…uh… figured it out on my own.’’ he tried again.
‘’How?’’
See, this was also why he wanted to prolong the inevitable. He still needed to come up with a good enough excuse for why he knew her secret identity in the first place. It was originally Sam who made the connection, but he couldn’t tell Valerie that. It was better to not involve Sam and Tucker into this mess he got himself into.
On the other hand putting the blame on his alter ego was also not the way to go. Valerie could barely stand Phantom, not to mention he already had a rain check on the ass kicking from yesterday. One wrong move and she might ignore the truce and blast him. Probably.
Sometimes it felt like the only reason she stopped trying to actively kill him was because of Cujo.
Who was he kidding? That was exactly the reason.
‘’Well?’’
He focused back on her. She didn’t look as angry anymore. Mostly stressed about her secret identity being on the line.
‘’I saw you put the suit on!’’ he blurted out.
That took her by surprise. She paused for a second, eyes wide before clutching his shoulders and shaking him desperately.‘’What?! When? Where?’’
‘’A while back.’’ he turned his gaze to the right. If he had to lie he could at least lie to a broom and not to Valerie’s face. ‘’Uh… It was behind the Nasty Burger…I didn’t mean to! I was just by the dumpsters and you didn’t see me!’’
She loosened her grip on his shoulders, but still kept her arms there. ‘’Why were you even there?’’
‘’...Looking for my dignity which I lost after becoming a tiktoker.’’
She just stared at him and he could feel the sweat rolling down his back. Which by the way was pressed hard against all the shelves with cleaning supplies. If he wasn’t cornered by a stressed out badass girl who could kick his ass at any wrong move, he would’ve complained.
Finally after what felt like hours, she let go of him with a sigh. ‘’Of course you of all people would be recording a tiktok by a dumpster.’’
He could swear her lips twitched into a small smile for just a millisecond.
‘’Yeah… you know me. I do stuff like that all the time!’’ he laughed nervously rubbing the back of his head.
She smiled a bit more at that, but her expression quickly changed back into a worried one as she looked to the side. ‘’You…didn’t tell anyone, right?’’ She turned her gaze back to him.
‘’Of course not, I can only imagine how stressful it is…to have a secret identity.’’ he could absolutely imagine it. Which now made him realize exactly just how stressful this entire situation must be for her.
Hell, if any of his classmates revealed that they knew he’s been Phantom all this time he would probably have a heart attack and die again on the spot.
She nodded her head solemnly. ‘’Yeah…and I’m scared you’ll be in danger now that you know.’’ she said.
Oh great she was worried for him now too.
‘’Val, it’s fine. I can take care of myself.’’ he gently took hold of her hands in hopes of calming her down a bit.
She sent him a doubtful look.
Okay. Rude. He absolutely could take care of himself.
‘’I’m literally the ghost hunters’ son???’’ he defended weakly.
She just shook her head a bit. ‘’With all due respect, Danny. Your parents aren’t very …uh… aware.’’
That was true. He couldn’t really deny it, so he just let her continue instead.
‘’You literally babysit Cujo and let Phantom hang out in your room, which, by the way. What the fuck Danny?’’
He shouldn’t have let her continue.
‘’Well I mean… I wouldn’t call it hanging out uh… I might or might not…sneak some Fenton tech to him. Sometimes.’’ he answered nervously. ‘’I can sneak some for you too if you want!’’
Yeah, try to buy her with guns. Girls love guns.
‘’Why would you do that?” she asked, totally ignoring the last part. “Is he threatening you? I swear if he dares to hurt you I will end his entire existence.’’
That made him feel real safe. ‘’Uh… Don’t you have a truce…or something?’’
‘’Doesn’t mean I trust him. He’s a ghost.’’
‘’So is Cujo.’’
‘’Cujo’s different.’’
‘’Sure.” he stated flatly. It was not the time to have this conversation. “I’m fine though, really. Please don’t worry about me.’’
‘’You’re important to me, I don't want you to get hurt.’’ she said, squeezing his hands softly. Right, they were still holding hands. He blushed looking down at them as she continued talking. ‘’The sole reason I broke up with you was because I wanted to protect you.’’
This made Danny instantly raise his head back up to meet her eyes. ‘’I thought you broke up with me to have more time to hunt ghosts?’’
‘’No! I mean, kinda! I mean- UGH.’’ she sputtered. Pausing for just a second she closed her eyes and took a small breath. ‘’I was very close to giving up ghost hunting for you, but then I realized I’m way too deep in. Someone needs to protect this town and if I don’t do it then who will? I just didn’t want you to get caught in the crossfire.’’
A silence. She sounded so sad saying that.
He knew she considered giving up ghost hunting for him, he heard her say it. But then the thing with her new suit happened and he assumed she just decided kicking his ass was the real priority. Yet it looked like she apparently didn’t want to drag him into a mess he was already a part of anyway.
‘’Val…‘’ he started softly.
‘’I’m sorry.’’ she interrupted, finally letting go of his hands. ‘’It’s just been a lot to deal with and…a lot of hard decisions…I’ve never really talked about it with anyone before.’’
He furrowed his brows. ‘’That must feel pretty lonely?’’
Valerie looked at him sadly.
The guilt that overcame him in that moment was unbearable. This entire situation was his fault. He was too busy being self centered, only ever caring about keeping his secret in tact. Never in his wildest dreams did he even consider how lonely Valerie must have felt all this time.
They weren’t so different after all, both of them wasting their teenage years doing some vigilante bullshit, but he always had Sam and Tucker (and then also Jazz) to support and help him out with ghost hunting. Meanwhile the only people who knew about Valerie were her dad, who disapproved of the entire thing and someone she considered her sworn enemy.
He should’ve come clean the moment she agreed to a truce. Maybe then she’d actually believe he wanted to support her. Instead he ended up weaving this web of lies, so intricate he barely could keep track of it anymore.
Heck, they were having this conversation only because he messed up yesterday. He put so much unneeded stress on her shoulders. This wasn’t fair to her in the slightest.
The only thing he could do now was be there for her as someone she doesn’t entirely hate yet.
‘’Well. Now you have me.’’ he said, forcing a soft smile on his face. ‘’I’ll always be here for you if you want to talk about…this.’’
And meanwhile I’ll just keep lying to you. He thought cringing inwardly.
Unaware of the crisis he was going through in his head, Valerie returned his smile with one of her own.
‘’Maybe it’s a bit egoistic, but…I guess I’m kind of happy someone knows. And of all the people who could’ve found out, I’m happy it’s you.’’ she made a point to look him in the eyes as she added ‘’I trust you. Just please make sure to not get into trouble.’’
He stared at her for a moment.
How could he do this to her? She trusted him! She just said so herself! He felt like the biggest jerk alive (or half-alive).
It’s not like he could just come clean though. Especially not at this moment. Revealing his identity would be an entirely different kind of betrayal. She would be absolutely furious. The kind of furious that even Cujo wouldn’t be able to save him from. That wouldn’t help her.
Sam was right though. He did this to himself. He should’ve listened to his friends from the start and stayed away from her as Phantom. Let her live her own life. Instead it was almost as if he craved any kind of interaction with her, even in the form of being shot.
And then Cujo came around. He somehow managed to make her listen to him as he explained what really happened with the dog. Slowly she started warming up to the puppy and that made Danny believe that maybe she’d warm up to him too, so he started pushing himself into her life more.
For fuck’s sake he got a second phone only to text with her. (She only answered messages involving Cujo and started conversations only when she suspected he did something wrong, but still.)
And okay, he did like annoying her with the family jokes a bit too much, sue him. He loved getting a reaction out of her and she always got so exasperated. (And maybe it was also a self indulgence. Taking care of Cujo has been their little thing. Only for them!)
He did feel a slight guilt when he messed up the first time and Danny Fenton got accidentally roped into ‘’babysitting’’ Cujo, but he ignored it for the most part. She actually bought into that flimsy excuse and he got to relax more when recording his tiktoks, not having to worry about whether Cujo came into view or not.
This though? This made him feel awful. Like he was finally truly breaking her trust. He was an awful person and a coward.
Suddenly his silly little game of house wasn’t so fun anymore.
‘’Trust me you’re the farthest thing from egoistic right now.’’ he said, forcing another pained smile on his face.
She sent him the cutest smile back. ‘’Thanks Danny. You’re really sweet.’’
Fucking hell. If only she knew the truth, she wouldn’t think that.
Before he managed to say anything else (which would probably be a lie anyway) the bell rang.
Valerie looked at the still closed door and moved to open it. ‘’I better get to my next class. Don’t wanna get detention. I’ll see you around?’’
‘’Yeah.’’ he mumbled just loud enough for her to hear before she turned around and left. Leaving the door slightly ajar.
Danny stood there for a second more. Trying to process what exactly just happened. He slid down to a sitting position and hit his head repeatedly against the cleaning supplies shelves.
Later during lunch, he joined his best friends at their usual spot and put his head in his hands on the table.
“Guys I fucked up so bad.”
“I told you so.” Sam answered unimpressed. Tucker just straight up laughed.
Some friends he had.
‘’It’s not funny, Tucker.’’ Danny groaned, raising his head to glare at the other boy.
‘’Yes it is.’’ Tucker answered, wiping away a non-existent tear.
Sam rolled her eyes at the both of them. ‘’The question is; what are you gonna do now?’’
Danny stared at the table in thought. There was only one thing he should do at this point, though it wasn’t going to be easy.
‘’I don’t know how yet…’’ he started looking up to meet his friends’ curious stares. ‘’…I’m gonna tell her the truth.’’

Lame HC: Dash is popular cause he's mean and rich and good at sports. His parents don't pay attention to him and he's dating Paulina cause she's cheer captain and the prettiest, most popular girl at school. He and the A-listers dropped Valery cause she's poor now and they all bully the trio cause they're weird and a bunch of geeks.
Totally Rad HC: Dash has parents who do pay attention to him and while he certainly is very comfortable he isn't a millionaire and his family is honestly pretty average, all things considered. He's not even dating Paulina, they were a short-lived item but are now just good friends. People still think they're dating cause people love making assumptions and gossiping about other people's business. He plays football cause he genuinely enjoys it and while he isn't stupid he worries he's not smart enough to get into college with just his grades alone - he knows it makes him a cliche. He's not a part of the A-listers cause they're all popular - he's actually friends with everyone. He and Kwan used to be neighbours and grew up together. Valery had always been judgey and a little volatile so they were never really that close - she was more Star's friend that anyone else's. You could never bring anything up around her without it being interpreted as an insult. He has an actual reason for disliking the weird trio. Sam is somehow even judgier and entitled than Valerie and is always going off at Paulina while being a complete hypocrite. Dash knows that eating less meat is better for the environment and has considered eating less meat during the week. But Manson's condescending, saviour, holier-than-thou bullshit makes him want to eat a steak right in front of her face just to piss her off. Tucker's turned down his pervy comments but is just cringey in his attempts to flirt. He tries way too hard to be seen as 'popular' and his borderline inappropriate obsession with his tech is just way too weird for him - and it's not like Dash has to like every person he's ever met. In all honestly, he's got nothing wrong with Danny - at least not personally. They'd been going to school together since forever and he'd always been a quiet, surprisingly funny kid who was always top of the class. But now Danny barely passes, even though everyone knows he could if he just put in the effort. Now Danny keeps skipping class, only to turn up with busted knuckles and terribly hidden bruises. He's a Fenton, which means he probably hates ghosts just as much as his parents and Dash has no problem with the ghosts who don't go around messing up their town and bothering Phantom. That and there's just something not quite right with Fenton. Dash isn't sure when that actually happened - when Danny went from being someone he could walk away from without a second thought to something that makes his forehead sweat from the mere thought of showing him his back.

Danny Phantom
There's not much change in name, but I intend to use what the fandom come up for his middle name (at least I think that's what the fandom agreed on? I might be wrong).
Daniel James Fenton.
Daniel, his actual full first name.
James, is what I remembered the name the fandom agreed upon, or at least some of it.
Fenton, his family name. There's nothing for me to explain about.
Also, a friend pointed out that I have a habit of giving things dramatic names (I'd say the influence of Genshin is strong af-). I do have a habit of making something to be more extreme than it was when it was originally made, so please don't mind it.
Relationships:
Maddie and Jack:
They're still the goofy and quirky parents Danny and Jazz had, but was smarter compared to the original. Knew Danny turned into ghost and the portal incident, more like they were also witnesses of that said incident. The sound of his scream of agony and pain manage to pull out nightmares for the both of them on several nights. However, that doesn't waver their love for their son. Sure, he may become half of the being they're hunting down for the sake of studies or something, but that doesn't erase the fact that this ghost child is their child, their little baby who unfortunately fell into the abyss of their own mistakes and neglect. They assists Team Phantom many times when it comes to the supply and whatever knowledge they have currently and are still expanding beyond their current understanding for the sake of learning to find a solution that wouldn't harm either side of the plane.
Jazz:
Nothing much different compared to the canon, except she was also a witness to the incident. Her overprotectiveness tenfold, much to Danny's dismay, and it took a lot of time for them to find a common ground and for her to tone down. There's nothing much different in this version compared to the original.
Sam, Tucker:
Danny's friends since elementary. Their relationship is pretty much the same as they are in canon, but what's different is that Danny and Sam doesn't harbor feelings for one another (I apologize for those who ship Amethyst Ocean), and therefore they aren't in any other relationship other than best friends.
Valerie:
Danny's relationship with Valerie is very contradictive compared to their relationship in canon. First and foremost; Valerie listens to people more than just act out and shutting her ears out, yes she sometimes act out first questions later, but she had made pretty good judgements and know that nothing good happens when jumping to conclusions too quickly and taking everything at face value without knowing the full story. She and Danny became friends during freshman year of middle school, and although Valerie still somewhat in the 'popular' clique in their school, she'd prefer to spend time with the Team Phantom any time. She could be considered the hub of all gossips at school with how much information she gets from the most loud and chatty clique of the whole school.
Dani/Elly, Dan/Ozzy:
Dani: The first ever semi-success clone of Danny made by Vlad. Nothing really is different in their relationship, until Dani was in the most critical condition that had something to do with her unstable ectoplasm, which required her to have to be revert to a some sort of fetus and undergo a process similar to normal human pregnancy, but instead of putting the halfa fetus into Danny, it was put inside of a bottle first before a birthing pod when the halfa child became more mature and resembles a newborn. In turn, she'll be reborn back as purely Danny's child (think about Ben who asexually reproduced, but went through a completely different process) without any of her past memories in place. The art and technology of doing this process remains undisclosed. Her new identity became Eleanor Maria Fenton with the nickname "Elly", and she became the ghost princess by right of birth after her "rebirth".
Dan: Their relationship remains the same until Danny decided to properly take care of Dan (before the de-aging). Think of it like a Nahida-Scaramouche/Wanderer relationship. Although it was a painfully grueling process, Danny was patient and really think about Dan and his freedom and his disoriented characteristics at heart and tried to the best of his abilities to help Dan out through it all. However, it turns out the ectoplasm from Vlad's half in Dan was found out to have a corruption, making Dan going through an excruciating pain and suffering. In order to cleanse the corruption entirely, Dan have to go through the same process as Dani, reverting him back to that of a fetus, born now as a halfa, and restart everything from scratch. His new identity became Kalos Marcus Fenton with the nickname "Ozzy", becoming the ghost prince by right of birth after his "rebirth". He and Elly had became twins in this current life.
Cujo:
The ghost dog that Danny found outside the building of Axion Labs (no, he didn't went in and wreck the place, because I'm twisting some things in Shades of Gray because Valerie is part of Team Phantom from the start). The dog looked lost, confused, as if it doesn't know what to do, so Danny decided to take the dog in and brought him home. After a while, he realized the tag on the dog's collar, and figured that this dog at some point was a staff at Axion Labs or maybe someone related to someone who works at the lab, and decided to check what's the deal with the dog and the lab. Danny later found out that the ghost dog, along with other dogs before (he didn't know if the other staff dogs are also dead, but he'll have to check it up later) are used to be guards dogs decades ago, but they were let down when technology became more efficient. The dog canals, food bowls, and other stuff are being put in an abandoned storage space that was completely sealed off. But a single toy stood out to him, a squeaky toy. Since this is the only toy in the whole room, Danny assumed this might've belonged to the ghost dog he found, so he decided to go back home and hoping this is the item that the dog was looking for to the point of waiting outside the walls of the lab for, which thankfully it was. However, instead of going back to the Ghost Zone, the dog decided to stay, and Danny became his owner after asking Maddie and Jack (to which both agreed). Cujo became his name.
Vlad:
Good god, where do I even begin... Ok, I guess I should start that their relationship is a lot worse than in canon. Yes, he still had that hatred towards Jack, but he also hated Maddie as the miniature portal was also her creation as it is to Jack's. By extent, he hated both of their kids too (unreasonable? Yes, but anything goes for me-), but particularly Danny due to his status as a halfa and the many connection he had between the living plane and the Ghost Zone. Dani's creation wasn't because he wanted a perfect son, it was an attempt to use the clones as an army to attack Danny. Dan's creation was literally a succeeded version of Vlad's plan. Vlad figured that the only way to really hurt Maddie and Jack, was to hurt their beloved youngest, the more pain the better he said. Vlad was so deep into his hatred towards the Fentons, morality was completely out the window and down the drain for him. Every attempt was another way for him to destroy the Fentons of what they did to him, he wasn't willing to talk whatsoever, even an attempt would've been futile instead. Due to me completely erasing Phantom Planet from existence, Vlad was still roaming free under the facade of a good natured mayor while scheming to get rid of the Fentons by any means necessary. His ectoplasm became corrupted due to many times it was used to experiment dangerous creations and many mysterious methods. However, Vlad could withstand it due to his overflowing amount of sheer hatred, while Dan couldn't handle the corruption due to having Danny's DNA.
Manny:
A fellow member of the Nicktoons Team. Manny (alongside Jenny) joined much later. They started out as acquaintances then friends, then after a while, they both started a relationship. Manny's life became even more interesting by the time the twins came to the picture, and Manny wouldn't want it any other way. He's a great babysitter (any maybe even parent, someday).
Jimmy, Timmy:
Danny considered both of them as his troublesome younger brothers, particularly Timmy. It all happened because the Turners asked the Fentons if it's ok for them to leave Timmy under the Fentons for a while, and that's how Danny's babysitting career started (do not ask for details. If you know what the Turners are like, that should speak volumes enough). Danny met Jimmy a little later afterwards after seeing a lonely kid on the bench of the courtyard of Timmy's school, so he decided to approach him, and that's how they get to know each other. Danny was a bit protective towards Jimmy due to how many times he's been bullied and being treated as an outcast because of his high IQ, so Jimmy found a safe haven in Danny. Although Danny said he's more of their babysitter than anything, Danny turned out to be that of a parental figure of the team; slightly strict but responsible and gave out reasonable rules so no one gets into unwanted troubles even outside missions. Both Jimmy and Timmy viewed Danny is that of the 3rd parental figure who kept them grounded and the voice of reason and motivation for them. Although he is still capable of grounding them, like confiscating Timmy's video games and locking Jimmy's lab while taking the key with him. Jenny said it was a given considering many times those two caused trouble.
SpongeBob:
Danny's best buddy in the team. SB had always been the motivational one of the whole team and kept everyone in spirits. Literally the closet person he had in the team way before Manny and Jenny. Supports Danny through thick and thin, and was the first person Danny ever confided with whenever he had problems and vice versa.
Jenny:
Was the only person (robot?) Danny recognized in Center Shades, and the only one Danny talked with for a while until he got to know the other members (particularly Randy and Jake). Danny was Jenny's backup fixer whenever Jimmy is not available and/or wasn't with them altogether, hence the only person Jenny trust in the other team with her mechanisms.
Info Dumps:
I will be dumping a hella load of info in this column, so be warned if you don't want to read everything. I'm not really willing to make a separate blog about this topic itself, so consider it like a Danny speciality that you can't find anywhere except asking Danny himself;
The term 'ghosts' is an umbrella term used for all types of spirits that originates from all the realms of the Infinite Realms (commonly known as the Ghost Zone). Just because they're called ghosts, doesn't necessarily mean they are whatever that's left of a human spirit.
Ghosts aren't inherently bad natured; they're more driven by their obsessions more than anything, and doesn't really meant to cause harm, but their obsessions could clouded their better judgement, making them getting mischaracterized as 'bad natured' and 'pure evil'. They're not bad, they just need something to feed off of their obsessions to find a few specks of peace.
The Ghost Zone is actually named as Infinite Realms, but another name was also proposed when the realm was first discovered; Gap of The Sun. The reason for this naming is that it was once believed that this realm had been created from a sun that once exploded, and instead of turning into a black hole, it turned into a neverending realm filled with doors leading to many other realms. However, the naming and this theory was eventually dropped due to lack of evidence to support the claim of the exploded sun that created this primal realm.
The nature of ectoplasm is currently unknown, but it is theorized to be remnants of a spirit's will and their former drive when they were still alive. But due to the lack of evidence, there is no concrete info that the ectoplasm were remnants of the ghosts leftover living will. It was only left that ectoplasm are just what give these ghosts their shape after their soul no longer resides using a human vessel in the living plane.
There's a phenomenon between the ghosts called a "Death Day", where the ghost will have to relive the memories of their death, the feeling of pain they felt all over again. They would go completely paralyzed and won't be able to move at all as they relive the memories and pain of their death with nowhere to go as they couldn't move. The aftereffects when the day of their Death Day had passed are; extreme numbness, lacking color vision in their sights (everything is in black and white for them), complete blockage of their powers, and whatever that's left in their mood swings of their Death Day. The only way to minimize the pain during Death Day was when the spirit's living loved ones visit their graves or commemorate the death anniversary. Even then, that won't erase the pain entirely, as it won't affect anything in the aftereffects (although this is unclear for those who are born as a halfa).
Danny's ghost king title:
Ok, so I did said that Danny became ghost king in this version, right? Well, in version, Danny became ghost king a little later after the defeat of Pariah Dark. Technically, he was already crowned shortly after, but due to the fact he's biologically and chronologically too young to rule yet, it was decided that Danny have to wait until he was 20 to finally take on the big roles of being the king of ghosts. Until then, he was made to do smaller tasks that seemed a bit big to him at first, but once he became king, the weight was even more immense than what he had initially thought it would.
The Ghost Law:
A law that is absolutely mandatory to follow by all ghosts of every realm and every kind. Here are some examples;
Ghosts are absolutely forbidden to harm those who still resides the living plane by any means.
In terms of handling one's obsessions, it is absolutely advised to ask the Ghost King for any solution that wouldn't involved the living beings.
Killing a living soul or the environment of the living realm will be heavily punished.
In terms of living amongst the alive in the living plane, a barrier must be made around the property to prevent ghost hunters or unwanted guests from lingering the property.
When a soul from the living plane had lost its human vessel and could no longer resides amongst the alive (basically: someone died), it is an absolute must to inform the ghost king in order to conduct the 'White Farewell' ceremony for the now-departed spirit.
Personality:
Not much different, except he radiates mom energy all over. Well, no wonder. Along with Ben, Danny has plenty experience when it comes to hyperactive and/or rowdy kids, and had a huge sense of parental responsibility towards everyone. Both Danny and Ben would be fussing over those who would dive head first into trouble without a clear plan and getting injured in the process, or when someone did something incredibly stupid it ended as a huge problem (they're in the Overview department for a reason).
Danny is more... Elegant compared to the original. There's always an aura of grace coming from him, and sometimes his voice comes off a sort of a mystical vibes, even if he didn't intend to it. Although despite being king, his overall personality didn't change; humble, friendly, and approachable.
Battle attire:
Something like a royal outfit, but nothing extravagant. Ok, maybe adding a bit of claws on his gloves could be a bit extra, but you can't blame me, blame Ningguang-
The hair tho, I have been thinking like a Zhongli-style ponytail in battle form. But in normal form, like human form will varies depending on what Danny wanted. Majority of his hair would already be white even in his human form.
The design I came up with.
(Base: TheCherryMonsterLu (DeviantArt));
Tumblr media
Weapons:
Polearm
Fenton Thermos
Flashdisk
Abilities:
Ghost powers
Ice powers (from his Ice Core)
Ectoplasm generating
Mind reading
Dream-jumping
Other Info:
Obtained the title or nickname as "Siren Voice", due to his mystical and beautiful voice. Think of it as those myths where sailors would disappear when they heard the voice of a mermaid/siren. This'll be hella useful for Danny in so many ways.
Ftm transgender, though he liked being called 'mom' by the twins.
Although he is a Fenton, he does not have the Fenton luck when it comes to driving (neither does Jazz). But he was usually being driven to by his ghostly staff/guards than driving himself. He still have a driver's license though.
Still can't get close to Blood Blossoms, otherwise he'll experience pain as horrible as the time of his 'death'.
Danny's body is sturdy but also hella flexible. He used to do gymnastics when he was younger, but his flexibility was greatly enhanced when he became a halfa.
Danny's eyes changed after the incident, not just when he's a ghost; originally icy blue, now blue on top half, and ecto green on bottom half. His eyes is still fully green when he went ghost.
The 2nd tallest in both at Nicktoons and the other team. Sorta thriving and suffering at the same time (the whole 'shorter people live longer' joke became a bit too literal than it was intended to due to Jake's longevity).
Danny would, quite literally, became a dictionary when someone would ask about ghosts, its nature and laws, etc.
Danny and June are actually pretty close friends due to their shared dreams to be an astronaut (even with their current circumstances).
Danny used to love eating sweets and desserts, but as Sam and Valerie monitored him and limit his consumption of sweet food ever since he had the twins.
Given everyone his protection seal, so ghosts couldn't really harm them, and it'll be much easier dealing with the ghosts like that because they're under the 'territory' of the ghost king himself.
At some point, Danny will start an orphanage for lost young souls who met their fate far too early. Randy might also do the same, but just with living children, and there will also be rescue shelters and such.
Danny's signature flower is Star Lit Orchid.

I heard some rumors about him (because heroes are good at gossiping)
Summary: Valerie Gray is in her twenties, goes to university, is an established superhero known as Red Huntress and has a boyfriend but, apparently, no one really noticed it until she mentioned it.
The first time someone heard of him in the hero-world was on the edge of a roof, during a casual conversation among two vigilantes of different cities.
“You have a boyfriend?”
“Wow, you don’t have to be that impressed, Spoiler”
Or: 5 times someone hearded of Red Huntress' boyfriend and 1 time they get to met him
Relationships: Danny Fenton/Valerie Gray, Stephanie Brown & Valerie Gray, Zatanna Zatara & Valerie Gray, Kara Danvers & Valerie Gray, Bruce Wayne & Valerie Gray
Characters: Valerie Gray, Danny Fenton, Stephanie Brown, Zatanna Zatara, Kara Danvers, Tim Drake, Bruce Wayne, a lot more.

First of all! I'm not a native speaker of english but I did my best, and so di my beta! I really appreciate them for beta-ing for me <3
Second, I edited some things just now (sorry beta!) and my knowledge of comic's characters are more from the fandom than the comics, but I tried to look for the most accepted ways!
Tell me if there's any mistakes! Edit: My laptop/PC almost explode when I tried to post this before xddd
The first time someone heard of him in the hero-world was on the edge of a roof, during a casual conversation among two vigilantes of different cities.
“It’s… kinda quieter than I expected,” said the distorted voice of a woman.
“There’re less screams than what you expected?” Asked the one by her side in a joking tone.
“Not… Not exactly,” she mumbled “I expected more movement and… yeah, more noise.” she admitted in a low volume, a little ashamed of her first assumptions.
“Don’t worry.” She said after a little giggle “Tonight is particularly calm for Gotham”
And she was right. it was an unusually quiet night in Gotham; well, as much as it can be in the cradle of crime without becoming suspicious.
“Is it?”
“Yeah, it’s a slow night Red, even though the crime won’t stop I can allow myself a little break.” She said calmly, moving her legs in the air. There were more bats tonight than the normal, a little break won't hurt… Probably.
The black helmet turned towards her, almost like doing a second take, creating a silence between them.
“Huh.”
“What?” She asked after a few seconds.
“You just sounded a little like my boyfriend.” The other answered after a little pause.
“What?”
“It just took me by surprise, it’s not that weird.”
“You have a boyfriend?”
“Wow, you don’t have to be that impressed, Spoiler” Red replied, clearly annoyed by her tone of disbelief.
“It’s not… It’s not that I’m impressed by you having a boyfriend-”
“Wow”
“-It just took me out off guard.” She said nervously and, without a pause, she took a breath to recover herself and talk again “Sooooo, tell me, what kind of man was capable of winning your heart?”
The Red Huntress laughed a little bit to calm herself and keep talking. She knew Spoiler wouldn’t do that on purpose but her temper was always strong, and more if someone is messing with her loved ones.
She took a breath and started to speak “Well, at first sight you wouldn’t know, because he's kind of lanky but he’s totally a fighter, even if he doesn't know how to pick his fights, or just doesn't choose them at all-."
The sound of a gunshot interrupted her talk and their break in general but, hey, they expected too much for a quiet night in Gotham.
The second time someone heard about him was later that week, not because Steph talked, not even because her comms were online and she didn't notice. Is just that they asked for some help and Danny is way better in that area.
That didn't stop the big bat from getting on her nerves.
To be fair, Batman didn't like her improvised girls night with Spoiler, but there was nothing she could do. The ghosts didn't appear near enough of Amity and she chased them to Gotham city, and after she finally caught them Spoiler asked for a girls night and she was free, so she accepted - even with the knowledge that Bats had something against her and the people who break into his city without permission, because it is his territory.
Nevertheless, he asked for her to come to the cave after patrolling with Spoiler, and Val, like a sweet, poor and innocent child, didn't think about it too much. Batman may have wanted to talk about the incident, it was near enough to become their problem and it wouldn't hurt to talk about it, after all, the natural portals had been becoming more common and they surely want to be prepared for ghosts.
Spoiler alert: it did.
Before anything, Val wasn't wrong at all, the bats were working with some new technology because of the last ghost incident out of amity, not this one, the one before this, and something wasn't working at all with the new ecto-weapons, and they wanted her opinion about this because Red Huntress' suit is made of this technology.
But she can't stand Batman.
Don't take her wrong, she always admired him, since her earliest childhood and she still does. The day when they offered her a place in the justice league was a dream, meeting all of them, Superman, Batman and The Wonder Woman, it was everything she ever wanted as a kid.
That day still feels like a vivid dream for her.
But once she met him in person he was all growls and grunts and cold looks, especially with her. But she got used to it, now he was just a little annoying. However, the look he gave to her was worse today, was more intense and started in the second she arrived, it's getting under her skin.
"Let me see the problem." She said without losing a single second of time, she might like Spoiler, and Red Hood in a minor level, but it is not enough to make want to stay in the cave longer than necessary.
Batman didn't make a single sound while he guides her to the station where they were working to modify some of their gadgets to make them effective against ghosts.
After some time analyzing and looking for an error she couldn't find what's wrong with the process they're making, it seemed right for her in every step, but something is wrong with it and she can't understand what and she's not going to stay any more time under the big bat sight.
She sighed, it's time to bring a specialist on this.
"I don't know what's wrong," She admitted looking at all of them at once, without having a visible reaction from them. "I'm gonna to call an expert, this is not my field anyways"
"It isn't?" Nightwing asked with clear confusion in his voice.
"Nope, it's more my boyfriend's area." Now, that had a reaction.
"Your boyfriend's area?" Batman asked slowly.
The implied question was right there, almost screaming at her.
'You have a boyfriend?'
And Val smiled, it's not like the polarized glass would betray her.
Whatever the ghost things made to her technology was very appreciated because it allowed her to keep her identity a secret from everyone, even from Batman and his crew.
Especially from Batman.
And she knew because of that he would take every piece of information she drops as if it was a drop of water to a thirsty man in the desert.
And, if it didn't give her all the satisfaction she could get then she doesn't know what the feeling was, but it was a really good feeling.
And this is probably the main reason why Batman has something against her, because he hates not knowing enough and she enjoys his lack of knowledge on her, and Val is not going to please him, not if it isn’t necessary.
And this little piece of information might not be necessary but she's tired and doesn't really want to stay longer in the same room as Bats or in this city at this point.
"Yes, my boyfriend might be the biggest space nerd ever but he's really talented in this area, let me call him to know what's happening here."
She didn't want to stop and think about how much information she just gave to them with that single comment, it's too late, she's tired and dealing with the bats, she doesn't care at all right now, she just wants to get home as soon as possible, and whatever happens is a problem for future Val.
Future Val has hope that ghost things may be able to help her in this situation and hide everything, even if it makes Bat's glare worse for her.
"Isn't it too late to wake him up?" Spoiler asked. "It's like 3:00 a.m."
Val did a double take.
She forgot they must think Danny is just another civilian.
She also forgot he is, technically, just another civilian now. And he must be sleeping like most people.
"Oh, right. I'm gonna text him, just to make sure he's awake."
Val loves the pockets of her suit, it shouldn't have them, not in the strange way it does, but Technus practically did her a favor modifying the original one and his ghostly abilities helped her a lot, like keeping her phone safe and undetectable.
It's always nice to see the surprise in the face of anyone who watches her take her phone from the weird pocket.
Are you awake?>
Luckily for her and her mood, she didn't have to wait too much time to get an answer
Danny 💕
yeah, just finished studying
She frowned looking at the text. She may be glad for not having to wait too long, but Danny shouldn't be neglectful with his necessities. He might be not all human but he's still part human, and sometimes he forgets it.
It's too late to study, why aren't you sleeping?>
Danny 💕
couldn't sleep
do u need smth Val?
Yeah, a little bit of help with some ecto things>
Can I call you?>
Danny 💕
of course
"Fortunately for us all, he's awake and able to help, I'm gonna call him." She said and, before anyone could interrupt it one more time, she called him with her helmet.
She loves her suit, it allows her to make calls, turn them into video calls and doesn't let anyone else hear or see them.
After 25 minutes, a lot of pressure and an awkward silence, during which they probably tried to hack her suit to find out who’s on the other side of the call, the diagnostic was "probably corrupted ectoplasm" because "it's harder to make it work and it's more probable it corrupts something, than work" and "It may hurt the ghosts, but it’s way less effective then using pure ectoplasm against them."
And she repeated everything Danny said word by word and then asked from where they got that corrupted ectoplasm just to get the awkwardest silence of all the night. Once it was clear they wouldn't say a word about that, Val didn't think twice and ran away before anyone could question anything.
On her long way to go home she couldn't stop thinking about sleeping the rest of the night in the arms of Danny. She deserves all the hugs, especially after this night.
The next time someone else heard of him was months after the last time and, unlike the first two times it happened, it wasn't from Red Huntress' mouth.
"Are you telling me that the Red Huntress has a boyfriend?" A blond girl said without believing it.
"And that's the reason why you couldn't go out with us before?" A black haired teen asked just after her
"That sounds stupid,"
It was from Tim's mouth.
On a video call.
"Yeah, B had been acting like a maniac trying to discover her identity." He said, drinking a sip of his coffee.
"Why?" Bart asked in a curious tone.
"Because the last time she came, she said something pretty specific about this boyfriend, and B thought he could use it to get more information, but, somehow, we couldn't find anything," Tim said, frustrated by the situation. He knows there’s not many people that can manage themselves in any ecto-related field, and even less who are experts on weapons against specters.
A space-nerd who knows enough should be weirder, and it means that it should be easy to find Red Huntress’ boyfriend, everyone knows that. And yet they couldn’t do it because somehow, somehow, they're still unable to find any information about any of them.
Tim doesn’t want to cry or scream until there's no more oxygen in the air, his vocal cords break, or his mind goes blank, no, that stage was two weeks ago and now is over. He wants to throw the towel away yelling “F*ck you!” with some tears and never seeing it again, he wants to quit, but he runs with coffee and spite and they’re his new target. He wants to curse Bruce, his name, Red Huntress and her mysterious boyfriend for getting them, for getting him, in this mess.
It's not like Tim or the bats knew this but Val was very glad about the ghost things that hid her identity, and Tucker who helps with the things that escape from them, like Danny’s link with any ecto-thing. She's not glad about other ghost things.
"But you told us it happened, like, months ago" Bart said with a certain level of disbelief.
"Yup." He drank another sip of coffee with a dead-look in his eyes. It makes a perfect match with his eye bags.
"... You can't be serious," Kon said this time
"I'm very serious… and so is he" Tim said in a sight, contemplating to drink a long sip of his coffee, he frowned after realizing he’d drank all of it, took a long and disappointed breath, and keep talking "Guys, you already knew she and B have this strange "rivalry" because we still don’t know her identity, this must be the most awkward pissing contest that we’ve all seen and everyone is getting tired of it. Even Jason is getting tired of it and you know how much he loves when B is that pissed." Another sigh, he hasn’t had a real sleep with all the increase of ghost activity where there was zero before. He doesn't have energy for anything.
"...That sounds even more stupid." Kon commented after a while.
"I know, right?" Tim said, making eye contact with him through the screen, he looked a little like a maniac himself for the validation, Kon noticed. "It's even worse when you have to watch them in their not-so-passive-and-more-aggressive fight-"
"How much time have you been into this?" Cassie asked, interrupting Tim.
"Too much," A femenine voice answered from somewhere behind Tim, scaring him and surprising the rest of them. "Are you talking about B's latest project, right?"
"What are you doing here, Steph?" Tim asked, turning himself towards her.
"Alf asked me to tell you that dinner is ready" She said, walking to Tim and getting in the camera area. "Anyways, what were you talking about?"
"Hey Steph!" Cassie started before Tim could say anything "Did you know Red has a boyfriend?"
"Yeah, he sounds like a nice guy from what Red Huntress says."
"What?" Everyone asked at the same time, creating a weird sound. Tim in particular was looking Steph at her eyes with some mix of unbelief, surprise, betrayal and despair.
"I mean, it's not like she talks a lot about him but she drops a comment or two when we talk, she doesn't even seem to notice it and she gets really soft when it happens, it was a little scary at the beginning but you get use to it." Steph threw like if it wasn't the bomb that it is. Maybe on purpose. Probably on purpose.
"Soft? Red Huntress gets soft when she talks about him?" Someone asked as if the information strangled them. But Tim didn’t care, because Steph knew things, she was learning about the guy who was the doom of his existence right now behind his back, the reason why he racked his brains day and night for the last two months.
And she didn’t said a word.
"Huh? Yeah, amazing I know, but not as amazing as the dinner, Tim-"
"Why didn't you say something?" His voice sounded like strangled by all the betrayal he felt. He was drowning in that feeling and coffee right now, maybe too much coffee, and Steph should be drowning in shame, not him in betrayal, just she in shame.
"Because she never dropped anything that important, just some comments of stupid, nerd, sweet and nice he is." She replied rolling her eyes "And I'm Team Red Huntress, I wasn't going to give any advantage to Bruce, duh,"
“Red Huntress being soft?”
"Steph." Tim groaned with a mix of feelings he couldn't even identify. It was more than what his sleep deprived brain could process and now it had melted, was nothing more than mashed potatoes with some ketchup and a half cooked egg in the cleanest pot you could find at 2 a.m after touching the bottom of your life two days ago and still being in the midst of a crisis. He hadn't slept enough for this amount of sh*t and the coffee can't replace sleep anymore. He wants to get in his bed and forget all this situation as he slips slowly into unconsciousness and falls to the earth's-
"Nuh-uh, Timmy, sleep can wait, dinner can't."
Yes, eating sounds good for him right now.
After that time it became difficult to say when next someone found out that Red Huntress has a boyfriend, because the Bats can be a bunch of dirty gossipmongers like any old lady at tea time. By the end of the month, everyone knew about her mysterious boyfriend.
Well, almost everyone.
"’Sorry guys, I can't go with you because it's date night’? What, is she seeing someone?"
"Her boyfriend, duh, she's been all busy because of all of the ghosts in the natural portals that are becoming more common."
"Ugh, don't say a thing, they have been my new headache for the last month or two."
"Well, you have this free night to get rid of it." The other replied, "However, it's nice to know that it hasn't affected her relationship, the guy seems nice from what she said."
The one who read the message wasn't following this conversation.
"What do you mean?"
"That she has a boyfriend?" And the silence arrived. "Seriously, you didn't know?"
The next time someone found out that Red Huntress has a boyfriend because she told them was this time. Kinda. A text still counts, I guess.
"No! I was out for ages!" Kara exclaimed, making a huge move of arms to express how unexpected the information was for her.
"It was like, a month," Katana said without paying a real attention to the conversation behind her.
Kara shrugged "Ages. A month. Same thing." And then sighed a little bit "The world is changing."
"I know I said something similar but now I know how weird it was for her." Cassie muttered as she watches Kara and Zatanna's talk
"I know, right?" Steph didn't do better when she found out, neither did Zatanna or Katana or most of them. The only exception is Black Canary, but only because she was able to hide it better.
"What do you mean?" Kara asked.
"She mentions him a lot," Zatanna said, getting closer to the blond one.
"No," Kara knows how reserved Red Huntress is, everyone knows that! It's hard to not know what is happening between her and the bats. They all assumed it is some kind of fight because Batman doesn't know her identity.
They think nobody notices how she ignores the strange Bat's question or how Red Huntress will look in his direction every time someone says something like "privacy".
"She does." Zatanna is smiling as she watches Kara's face fall in some mix of unbelief, despair, oh-my-lord-this-is-a-so-weird-dream, hope? And betrayal.
"You are lying," was said in that exact same tone "I can't believe you."
"You’d better," Zatanna chuckles, "I'm not lying about how much she talks about him, it may be like two or three comments per talk, which are not that much but definitely more than what anyone expects."
"She's not lying though," Steph gets in the conversation, "She makes some comments like "I know someone who dance better than you, criminal" or "I would say a joke but that would mean he won, ugh" You really won't notice unless you know it, and once you do it's really obvious."
""Even he makes better decisions than you"," Kara was mortified as the words got out of her mouth.
"Just like that."
"How didn't I know?"At this point, Kara already questionated all her life decisions and everything she knew. She knows nothing now and Red was the biggest liar. It doesn't matter that she actually never told any of this theme to them but still a liar.
"To be honest, you need to know where to look to find the clues." Zatanna finally had mercy, Kara wouldn't forgive her right now, this all happened all of sudden, but she is grateful for her mercy.
"Bats almost went crazy because of that" Steph said happily as it wasn't the understatement of the year.
Kara can see that. She feels better now, not even the big bat noticed it at the beginning.
She could live with that.
"So, are we having our girl's night with questionable legality or what?"
The last time they heard of her mysterious boyfriend before they finally met him, was after a year of knowing about him, just after a catastrophe.
A ghost related catastrophe.
In retrospect, it was obvious, the natural portals were becoming more common, the ghost attacks were more and more frequent, something felt wrong and it was only a matter of time until this happened.
A big mess in red and green that happened just because a crazy man thought he had enough power to control all this entities to take over the world.
Key word: thought. He couldn't control them.
Ghosts are chaotic and have some very specific obsessions. Sometimes they opposed and they had to solve it with the best method they knew.
Fights.
It was a mess from the beginning.
Luckily for them, Batman's paranoia does something good, and prepared a lot of weapons and gadgets that works on them.
They were, at least, a little prepared.
The most worrying part of this was the crazy man screaming "You haven't seen the real power! If I don't show you they will!" Because after that he escaped from the biggest heroes in the world, somehow. Probably because of all the destruction.
They hope he won't become a real problem, but knowing their luck, he will.
But it doesn't matter right now, because this story isn't about crazy people and ghosts against the justice league, no. This story is about what the people know about Red Huntress' boyfriend.
So, the last time they heard of her mysterious boyfriend before they finally met him, was in the Atalaya after a year of knowing about him, just after the catastrophe that I just mentioned.
They all were getting some rest after that exhausting fight.
Val was grateful that this place has some kind of living rooms and got the good couches in them, even if now she was part of some pile.
To be honest, she doesn't think she would like to get a break in the meeting room.
Because yes, there's a reason why the most of them are here and it's because they need to close this case as soon as it's possible and, even though they just fought, there's a crazy man who has been learning things he shouldn't know and started to using them, and that, that's a real big problem.
But not Valerie's biggest problem right now.
"Huh," she said as she frowned, breaking their comfortable silence. There was this tone in her voice that said something feels bad, and that's very important when you just fought with a horde of ghosts and some maniac screamed "You haven't seen the end of me! You'll regret this!" Or something like that.
And that's exactly why it called everyone's attention.
"What happened? " Zatanna broke from her position, sitting on the floor with one of her legs close to her chest, her back on the couch and her head in Red Huntress' stomach now.
"My boyfriend hasn't called yet." Red Huntress said with clear confusion in her tone.
"And?" There wasn't anything really bad, it may be just that it collapsed because of a lot of people must have called their loved ones to check on them after the situation.
"Not even a message." She started to sound a little frustrated. "He was in Amity Park visiting family."
And the silence arrived. Everyone knew the problem with that.
Amity has the door to the other side. The portal, the bridge, the hole among the live and the dead.
Ghosts aren't unusual there, even before this.
That city would have been a hell on earth.
"But… Wasn't Phantom there?" Spoiler was a little worried. She may have not met the guy but he sounds strong enough to protect the city and its habitants. She hopes he could be able to protect The boyfriend™. He sounds nice and makes Red Huntress happy. It would be a lame if something happened to him. She moves a little uncomfortable in the puff because her position didn't allow her to look at the Red huntress's head and her neck wasn't happy.
"Uh… I mean, yes, but this is still being a little strange," Red Huntress said in a weird voice. "No one has texted anything to me and he has the costume to get in weird and bad situations" She mumbled, clearly worried.
"... Phantom?"
"No, D- my boyfriend."
"... He could be tired," Kara offered from her position upside down on the couch, Red Huntress’ legs above her stomach and Steph's head was close to her own.
"... It wouldn't be the first time," She accepted, a little ashamed, a little more worried.
They all fell in a silence more uncomfortable than the last one, the expectation was growing as the time ran and it was suddenly broken by the sound of a message notification.
Valerie took and turned on her phone so fast she could, and unlocked it. The name wasn't Danny's but it would work.
Sam
He's fine
They weren't really powerful but were a lot, but nothing he couldn't manage, he just got tired lol
He arrived to his house and fell asleep before even touch his bed
The relief washed over her as she couldn't be more grateful for that. Sam and her aren't the best friends but Valerie knows she can trust her with Danny's safety, at least, now that they're young adults. Teenage her wouldn't trust Sam after knowing why the accident happened, especially not with Danny's safety, but as an adult she knows that she grew up and is worthy of trust… Most of the time anyways.
"He's fine, just fell asleep." She said, visibly relieved, bringing calm to the atmosphere in the room.
"Good to know." Kara said a little sleepy "I'm feelin' sleepy too."
"Yeah, me too," Zatanna agreed as she closes her eyes.
"A nap sounds nice." Valerie was already falling.
"Yay, sleepover in the Atalaya." Steph barely mumbled before anyone fell asleep.
After some seconds, none of them were awake.
The day they met him was just the day after that. And it was in the weirdest but precise way it could be.
"Danny?!"
"Uh, hi V- I mean, Red" He laughs nervously "I'm so grateful you're here because I couldn't text you to warn you and-,"
"What are you doing here?" She asked in some mix of surprise, anger, exasperation and resignation.
"Uh, well, you'll see-,"
"He is the chosen one to bring the ghost king to this realm!" Said the main cultist
"- I'm the sacrifice." Danny chuckles, clearly nervous.
The silence would have fulfilled the entire place if it wasn't for the little laughs of Danny.
"W-What happened?" Kara asked, feeling out
The first time they met Red Huntress' boyfriend is 24 hours after the end of the ghost catastrophe.
They made a meeting just 6 hours after because everyone was tired but there was a menace running away to only-gods-above-knows-where. In the same meeting they agreed to make an assault group to face this menace, it was small but powerful because it was conformed by a Green Lantern, Supergirl, Batman, Flash, Zatanna and Red Huntress. Half of them were there because they were less tired.
Once they were ready, they chased the track of the crazy man™, which was way more difficult than what they expected. But they finally found his lair, a just abandoned building, and they, somehow, were able to get in the middle of, and interrupting, a ritual to summon the most powerful ghost, the ghost king, in which, Danny, Red Huntress' boyfriend, was the main sacrifice.
It was certainly a shock when they arrived just to watch a bunch of people, in some big odd clothes that hide their entire figure, singing in a dead language around a lanky guy, with messy clothes, tied to a table in the center of a summon circle.
Which leads to this situation.
Red trusted Sam one time. Just one time and THIS happens.
She is concerned and impressed.
(Okay, she trusted Sam a lot of times before but how did this keep happening its a real mystery).
"How?" The impulse to cover her face with her hands was surprisingly big. She would like this to stop happening.
"That's not of YOUR concern!" One of the cultists said, he sounded suspiciously like the crazy man™.
"To be honest" Danny interrupted, calling everyone's attention "It's kinda funny, I just woke up and saw that my parents didn't have milk, which is normal, so, I went to buy it and in the middle of my walk someone screamed "You!" But I was really tired to pay attention to it, and I didn't stop, the next thing I knew it's that I'm here." The more of them looked at him with incredulity as he spoke, it sounds just ridiculous.
"... I can't believe you" Valerie really wished she could mean it but, sadly for her, she totally believes it. Dating Danny is a way to find out that Danny doesn't look for problems, problems look for him in the weirdest ways.
"It happened, though." Danny sounded exhausted, maybe of his luck, maybe of his life.
Red Huntress sighed under the watchful and expectant gaze of everyone else.
"So, let me get this straight," Valerie started. "You went to buy milk, alone."
"Yes"
"And someone screamed "You!", and you ignored it?"
"Yup."
"And that was a kind of warning before getting kidnapped."
"... In retrospective, yes, it was," Someone snorted, she didn't care enough, this was ridiculous anyways.
"Why, Danny, I- just-" Valerie sighed, Sam may differ but she didn't sign up for this "Why?"
"Because I just knew he was the perfect offering the moment I saw him walking on the streets."  The man answered the question proudly. His capacity to feel the power in a human being should not be underestimated.
"Thank you man, I really appreciate that, but I'm not… I don’t look like one." Danny was tense and he was right, he was in his clothes from yesterday because he slept with them. A big age-worn green sweater with a white shirt, that Val just knows is that one parodying NASA's logo with a UFO, peeking out, his oldest and ripped jeans and just one, single, and untied, shoe. Everything was wrinkly and his hair was practically a nest because of the mess that it is. To be honest, he looks like a lanky and sleep deprived nerd that goes to college. Maybe one step from death from the chaos in his life but not like the perfect offering.
It created a silence, a big silence that was just broken by Red Huntress' voice.
"That's it, I'm done." She said in an inexpressible tone "You all are doomed, I'm done with this".
"But V- Reeeeed" Her boyfriend groaned in a miserable voice. "I'm scared and unable to do anything."
It was the way he said "unable" that impacted Valerie, because it means: "I can't go ghost or use my powers, I'm out of ecto-sauce."
She breathes, magnificent, Danny is powerless right now, it means like she wasn't stressed enough for all this situation.
"Okay, okay," Red Huntress says, lowering her voice and entering a more serious mood. "I can work with that." Her voice was silent and sent shivers down everyone’s spine.
She moved her body into a better position to fight.
"We can work with that."
And it took just one (1) little move to start the fight.
It was chaotic, half of the cultists went to fight and distract the heros meanwhile the other half started the ritual to summon the ghost king again, just at a lower speed, because, apparently, the amount of people was important to define it.
And they were just six (6) heros against a lot of cultists, but they were four (4) with superpowers or similar, one (1) with a super-suit, and Batman.
The fight was messy and exhausting, the number of cultists never seemed to end, but, luckily for Danny, they didn't know how to fight, so the heros were able to end  it in time.
And now, with a worrying amount of unconscious people and the six of them, well, exhausted, Danny was finally safe, tired and safe.
Valerie went to free him once for all, and when she had her arms under his knees and back, his arms around her neck, she finally felt the relief of knowing he is safe in her arms.
"You-" She said with all her mixed feelings in her voice, trying to explain how she felt. After struggling for some seconds she kept it in silence.
"You didn't have to carry me, you know?" He broke the silence in a low and playful tone under the gaze of the other five heros, looking to Val's eyes behind the polarized glass.
"I know," she mumbled in a breath looking at his eyes, keeping it for a time. Her tone had a little of shame and Danny knew she was worried enough to need this.
Not all the days someone manages to get you when you're vulnerable just to sacrifice you to summon you. He was a little scared too.
"Kiss me." He said after just a few seconds, taking by surprise most of the room.
"In this place? Under everyone's eyes?" She asked without being really surprised but a little doubtful
His eyes softened as he saw the doubt on his girlfriend, "Can I?" was asked in a whisper looking for permission.
"Yes." She said in a silence but sure of what it implied right now
And with that simple word, Danny moved his hands to her helmet, pressed some buttons and cradled her face in his hands to give her a soft and long kiss, after which he brought their foreheads together to have a moment of intimacy.
"I'm so grateful you saved me, my hero," Danny said in a playful voice, mocking his girlfriend.
"You are welcome, damsel in distress," She replied with a smile on her face.
Danny laughed, surprising the rest of the heroes, who kept looking at the moment.
"That was so baaaad," Danny laughed a little bit more. "I love you." he said when he finally stopped the giggles.
"I love you too, but put the glass on," And Danny did it.
Batman, finally, interrupts the moment by cleaning his throat. "Let's go." he said looking at Red Huntress, and then, her boyfriend. "You can bring him too." And he started to walk out of the place
"Thank you Batman." Red Huntress said.
“Are we going to THE Atalaya?! To SPACE?!" Danny asked.
After the mysterious medical check (Valerie did it alone because neither she or Danny would let anyone else to check Danny's health), they finally had another meeting, mainly because Red Huntress asked for it.
The report wasn't immediately necessary but Red insisted, so there they are. Sitting in their respective chairs with the obvious exception of Red Huntress’ famous boyfriend, Danny, who sat in her lap.
"I called you all here because I wanted to make some presentations now that the cat is out of the bag," Red Huntress said with his boyfriend giggling a little bit because of the last part.
She breathes and presses the buttons on the side of her helmet, revealing her face.
"I am Valerie Gray and he," Danny turns his face to see everyone in the room, avoiding the eyes of Constantine and Zatanna "is my boyfriend, Danny Fenton".
"Nice to meet you". He said with a large grin that allowed them to see his fangs.

Ideas for Halfa Trio AUs with Identical Ghost Form.
Idea 1
The trio's ghost forms are literally identical, which is good for keeping a secret identity and mildly confusing for everyone else. And I do mean completely identical, with no distinguishing features, not even minor ones, but their minds are in no way affected, and while they don't have different powers they can become more skilled at using one or another power.
They might clarify that there are three of them. Maybe. Eventually.
(Once someone figures out duplication they go from confusing to headache inducing. Particularly for their enemies.)
Idea 2
The trio literally share a ghost form. So only one of them can go ghost at once. This is fantastic for a secret identity and very confusing for literally everyone else.
(The ghost-zone gossip would be wild. They all agree that there is a teenaged half-ghost and what they look like as a ghost. They agree on almost literally nothing else.
Vlad does not know what is going on. He knows Danny is half-ghost, he has no idea that the others are too. How can his ghostly employees really be this bad at identifying human teenagers?)
They can probably all use the same amount of ghost-powers while in human-form that Danny can in canon, so they aren't completely human even when a different member of the trio is being their ghost.
Idea 3
The trio only have one ghost form between them but more then one of them can go ghost at once. This doesn't generate them an extra ghost-form nor does it merge their minds, no, it just gives them the worst case of backseat driving.
It's great for keeping a secret identity and for keeping their human-sides from getting damaged in a fight but it can also be very distracting. Plus it is often more useful for some of them to stay in human-form and assist which ever one of them is in ghost-form.
(The ghosts probably know what's going on here? The ghost-child is three human children and sometimes they are all the ghost-child and sometimes just one of them is the ghost-child, you can tell by if the ghost-child is arguing with themself or if one of the ghost-child's human-forms is attacking at the same time as the ghost-child.
The humans may or may not think Phantom has some kind of mental problem. Depends on how well known it is that Phantom has arguments with themself and sometimes doesn't know things one day that they knew the day before.
Vlad does know, but it took him an embarrassingly long time to figure out.)
Ghost Form
I'm thinking their ghost has pupil-less blue eyes with chin length hair and an androgynous build but I haven't settled on more then that.

A Party to be Remembered Through the Ages (Epilogue)
Ectoberhaunt 2022, Side Chaos. Prompt: Costume Party
Summary: The aftermath of Johnny and Kitty's party, and we see how Danny and a few ghosts deal with it.
Author's note: I'm finally done with this \OwO/ I swear this thing had no right to take me so long to write, why did a one-shot become a full on fic with 7 chapters I don't know, but at least now I know to be careful when writing to that my ideas don't get out of hand XD Please enjoy since I'm oficially done with this and I won't be joining in another event ever, this was too much for me considering I have plans for my own fics for the future :V
Edit: First - Previous - Next (This is the last part :D)
0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o
“Ok, so you’re telling us that you got to the party, talked a little, played Just Dance twice, broke a fight and left the party, and it all happened in 2 hours?” Sam’s skepticism could be noticed a mile away, and neither Tucker, Jazz nor Danny could even pretend to not notice that.
“Yeah, that’s the brunt of it,” the poor halfa tried to defend himself, but the faces he received from everyone made it clear he would not be able to fly away with just that, “it’s the truth! I swear I’m not lying!”
"Wait, why was Technus disguised as himself?" Jazz asked while tilting her head slightly.
"Apparently he's the main reason the Ghost Zone is able to have technology working at all." Danny said, he was also going to continue talking some more about the different roles that the ghost can take in doing so, however he was interrupted by Tucker.
“Aha, yeah, why don’t you tell us what happened between all of that that you conveniently forgot about, huh?” he asked, lifting an eyebrow to Danny’s avoidance of going further.
“Awww, did my baby bro embarrass himself at the party or something?” She teased him while poking at his cheeks, all the while evading the blur of slaps that the brother was throwing around to avoid her teasing, “you know you have to tell us now what happened, right?”
“Will you stop if I tell you!?”
“Sure, but I want nothing but the truth little brother, got it?”
“Fine, fine, you got it.” “Woo hoo!” Exclaimed the rest of the trio, high fiving each other as they prepared themselves for the gossip that Danny was bound to offer now.
“So, I might’ve accidentally not on purpose… brokeSkulker’smindwithawhatIcanonlysupposewasabigrevelation.” That last part was said in a hurry, hopefully to avoid any further embarrassment that would be brought up by this.
“You broke Skulker!? Ha! You have to tell us how you did it now.” Tucker demanded as he pointed a finger to his best friend and laughed at the misery of the ghost hunter.
“So, apparently, the Ancients are not only still kicking around, but I’ve met all of them and made friends with half of them, beating the other half to a pulp.”
“Yeah, we’re gonna need more context for that. Who are the Ancients again?” Sam asked this time, flipping through one of the books she had with herself, “I can’t find anything on them.”
“Ok, so you remember Pariah Dark, right?”
“The dude that plucked Amity Park into the Ghost Zone?” Tucker asked, straightening himself on the seat he was on, now paying more attention to the story being told.
“Yeah, that dude. He was trapped inside the Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep when Vlad released him that one time-” “-Vlad was the one that released him!?” Jaxx interrupted, putting hands in the air as her disbelief was heard from her voice.
“Wait, why am I surprised? He’s narcissistic enough to believe that was a good idea.”
“Yeah, anyways, the ones that trapped him there in the first place were a group of 7 powerful ghosts that banded together to stop his tyranny. Those are the Ancients.”
“Ok, so how do you know them all then?”
“I’ll just name them for you and you’ll get it. First is Clockwork-” “Yeah that’s a given.” “Not surprised.” “Who’s Clockwork again?” “Oh yeah you weren’t there when we had our time travel adventure.” “Oh, from the Dan incident, got it.” “Basically ghost time god.” “Well, doesn’t that rock the worldview.” “-next is Pandora.”
“Wait, Pandora is an Ancient?” “Considering her box I wouldn’t be surprised.” “Talking about those, it is safe, right? Nowhere near Boxy?” “Don’t worry Jazz, we’re safe there.”
“Anyways, the rest are Undergrowth, Frostbite, Vortex, Nocturne and Marduk.” Danny finished listing all of the Ancients’ names, a finger up for each of them until 7 fingers were up.
“Ok, so apparently we all know all of the most powerful ghosts of the Ghost Zone, and somehow became friends with 3 of them, while also managing to survive being enemies of the other half?” With each word, Tucker’s voice became more and more strained and high pitched, and in the end he seemed like a kettle in the boiling point.
“Yep.”
“That means I also got mind controlled by one of the Ancients.”
“Yeah, that wasn’t a good day.”
“That also means that that one Observant you punched in the eyeball was an Ancient, right?” Jazz was beginning to get a little nervous now, if the increase of pitch in her voice and dilated pupils were anything to go by.
“That asshole deserved it and nothing y’all say will make me think otherwise.” Crossing his arms Danny floated in place with his head up, not regretting doing said thing in the slightest.
“Wait a second, doesn’t that mean that you’re stronger than all the Ancients then? You managed to defeat Pariah alone after all.” Sam brought up a good point, a smile spreading through Tucker’s face when she said so.
“Dude, this is great then, that means that you won’t have to worry about any ghost ever again, you can just relax and goof around now.” Tucker was vibrating in place right now, stimming as his eyes shined through his glasses, “how many shenanigans do you think we can do with your fights now?”
“Oh oh oh, I got some ideas for that kind of thing,” Sam got closer to the boys, now conniving with them as well.
“At least you’ve managed to reach some peace of mind brother.” Jazz muttered under her breath as she sighed and shook her head, a fond smile adorning her face while doing so, “ok, move away, I also have some ideas for shenanigans.”
Meanwhile, in the Infinite Realms, the rumor mill was beginning to work around as ghosts were talking and spreading the things that happened at Johnny’s party the previous day, and it all started with Technus visiting Skulker.
“Skulker! I, Technus, master of all things technological and electrical have come to give your suit a check up and see if it’ll need any updates!” He trespassed into the island of the hunter with no regard to the traps that were spread around the place, moving masterfully to avoid all of them without a second thought. “Skulker!?”
When he managed to find the hunter, he was outside of his suit, just looking at the vegetation that spread through his Lair as the different hues of green were distinct enough to be distinguished from each other and the perpetual green with purple highlights of the Ghost Zone, eyes unfocused on anything as he remained there unblinking.
“Skulker, you alright there?”
“Peachy.” The sarcasm was tangible even in the soft single word that was uttered from his mouth, gaze still unfocused and to the skies.
“What happened that got the greatest hunter of the Ghost Zone in such a bad mood.”
“We’re just playmates Technus,” he finally turned his eyes away and looked directly into his eyes, “we’re just playmates to the whelp.”
“The ghost child? What makes you think that?”
“He told us about that yesterday”
“You mean that wasn’t a joke? How did you figure that?”
“Because of Frostbite.”
“What does he have to do with anything, he’s a pretty strong ghost, I’ll give him that, but he’s friends with the ghost child, he isn’t his enemy, he wouldn’t fight him of his own volition.”
“He has everything to do with this. I did some research on why he picked his costume and how come that Frostbite ghost was dressed up as the Whelp as well, and the things I uncovered were disconcerting to say the least.”
“Ok, and those things are…?”
“He’s an Ancient.”
“...What?”
“Frostbite is an Ancient.”
“You’re telling me I fought against an Ancient!?”
“Oh yeah, I forgot that detail when the Whelp chose to give me an existential crisis back then.”
“I fought against an Ancient!? I mean, no wonder it all seemed like a game from his perspective, but still, I sparred against an Ancient!?”
“And that’s not the only thing.”
“There’s more?” The whispered question left Technus’ mouth as disbelief plagued those words.
“Ember told me that the other ghost the Whelp invited is Pandora, another one of the Ancients.”
“Is the Kid friend with all the Ancients!?”
“At this rate he might as well be.”
“I-I need to sit down for a second here. This is too much.” Technus lowered himself until he was sitting on top of a rock that was next to Skulker's empty mech, bringing a hand to his head and combing his hair.
“Yes… It’s a lot.”
“Wait… didn’t Frostbite say that the Ghost Boy’s fighting abilities would be up to the standards of the Ancient of Hope Pandora?”
“Oh Ancients you’re right… Does that mean that we’re up to the standards of an Ancient?” The hope in Skulker’s voice was palpable, having the possible recognition of an Ancient as the greatest hunter of the Ghost Zone would give him the biggest boost to his ego in his whole death.
“I have to tell everyone, I can’t believe even the Box Ghost has met the standards of an Ancient.”
“Pshhh, I doubt that guy can meet anyone’s standards,” Skulker began floating to his mech and got inside, closing his face and beginning operating it, “except maybe Lunch Lady’s standards for a lover. I heard from Ember that they’re looking to take the next step soon enough.”
“Oh, they’ll have a baby!?” Technus floated a few centimeters higher when he heard the news, “I have to congratulate them, then I’ll spread the word of Phantom and us being up to Ancient standards.”
“Don’t exaggerate anything, I don’t want any powerful ghost coming to my Lair looking for a fight and destroying me,” Skulker said as he stood up and began polishing some of his weapons, “the Whelp is the one within standards, we’re just below them, remember that.”
“Sure sure, now I have to go to congratulate the lucky pair, see you later Skulker.”
And like that, a rumor began running around the Infinite Realms, starting with the fact that Phantom was up to the standards of the Ancients, and some of his rogues were as well if Danny had to take their fights seriously; then that got distorted into Phantom fighting some Ancients with the help of some of his rogues, then it distorted furthermore into Danny fighting and winning against some Ancients alone, then some rouges (between them Skulker and Technus) being able to defeat some Ancients if they work together, then that Johnny’s party was interrupted by an Ancient that Danny beat up and got out of his Lair, to then Danny fighting against 2 Ancients and winning barely with the help of some other ghosts present; to finally land funnily enough to Danny kicking out 2 of the Ancients alone of the party, which is actually true if one remembers that he did so with words only instead of fists and ecto-blasts, but that’s something only a few knew, and it’s not like doing that isn’t just as impressive as doing so with a fight.
After that small rumor mill completed its job through a month’s time, another one began working at the same time about the epicness of Johnny and Kitty’s parties, beginning with the fact that one would be able to duke it out without repercussions, to the fact that the open bar they had had some very mysterious and potent stuff, to there being the possibility of some famous ghosts assisting, to the certainty that famous ghosts always go to them, to Ancients going to them as well.
And it’s not like those 2 rumors will be leaving soon, after all they all have some nuggets of truth inside them. Danny is strong enough to be recognized by all of the Ancients, and he’s friends with some of them, not to mention that he has defeated 3 of them as well. And Johnny and Kitty both have some bottles of liquor without labels, and they allow fights as long as they happen in the backyard of their Lair, and in the latest party 2 Ancients were invited as a +3, and they’re plenty famous alright if ghosts know their history, which to be fair, that’s only a small amount of them.
By the time that Danny went to the Acropolis of Athena, all the ghosts that he came across that wasn’t part of his rogue gallery gave him a wide berth, avoiding him at all costs, and the fact that everyone say him arriving towards the Lair of an Ancient, passing over the labyrinth without being struck down, and stopping at Pandora’s room, letting those few with the ability to see though the buildings witness her receiving him with open arms and a hug, did nothing to calm down the rumor mill, if anything, it made the rumors going around worse, thus marking the day of the party as one that catalyzed the biggest rumor distortion of all time that somehow managed to stay 100% on spot.

DP x DC AU: Danny desperately wants to find the explosion guy. Tim is really good at covering his tracks... he didn't account for ghosts.
The explosions make it onto TV as purported terror activity and most people haven't heard of that part of the world much less ever given a second thought to care about it. The only real reason it gets reported on has something to do with the Justice League and... Danny knows too much.
He's been in training for Clockwork's court (which he's suspicious of- feels like kingly duty bullshit- but Danny is playing along out of curiosity for now) and he's learned a lot about how the living and non-living worlds collide. That means learning about CW's usual suspects- one of which just happened to have a ton of bases around the area Danny was seeing on the news.
It didn't take long for Danny to try to piece together that whoever blew up Nanda Parbat was trying to fuck with the League of Shadows, and was doing it successfully. Less green portals in the world the better, same goes for assassins. But it gets Danny thinking... Maybe he can employ similar tactics on the GIW Bases that keep spawning on the edges of Amity Park. It would at least set them back while he and his friends navigated the help line desk to request Justice League intervention. None of them can leave Amity Park, so outreach is going to have to be creative.
So Danny figures he'll just find the guy. Call up some ghosts who were there, or er, came from there and get a profile and track him down. But the ghosts keep saying it was The Detective. Annoying!
Danny goes full conspiracy theory, gets Tucker and Sam involved, and begrudgingly asks Wes Weston his thoughts.
He hadn't expected Wes to garble out a thirty minute presentation (that had 100 more slides left to go before he cut it off) about how Batman totally trained with a cult and so did his kids. Danny kind of rolled his eyes but... hey, new avenue of searching in the Infinite Realms at least.
The ghosts confirm that Bombs is for sure not Batman's MO- But maybe his second kid would know? The second kid was already brought back to life though, so no way to easily reach him... Danny starts to realize that this might be the work of a Robin now. Wasn't the red one known for solving cold cases? (Sam provides this information- its a social faux pas to not know hero gossip at Gotham Galas- everything she's learned is against her will).
It all comes to a head when Danny goes about the hard task of opening a portal for the guy to come through at just the right time, explain the infinite realms so he doesn't panic and then describe what the fuck was going on with the GIW. It takes months, just over a full year, of random (educated guesses) portal generating- Finally, Red Robin drops into the land of the dead.
"So, you're the guy I've got to talk to about explosions right?" Danny enthusiastically asks.
Tim thinks he's died and landed in the after life following 56 hours of being awake and plummeting off the side of a building into a Lazarus pool. Nothing makes sense about the kid in front of him.
"Yeah, I got a guy for munitions." Tim answers cooly.
"How do you feel about secretly sanctioned government operations that violate protected rights?"
"Gotta get rid of 'em some how. Need me to point you in the right direction?" This might as well be happening.

Yesterday @lilianade-comics posted a compilation of Good Dad Vlad and Dani art, so now I’m here to inflict my own Good Dad Vlad and Dani (+ others) thoughts on y’all >:3
- Daddy’s Little Girl, obviously lol. Dani is acutely aware of this and will use it to her advantage to occasionally get what she wants from him. Like ice cream for dinner, or a later curfew, or idk a giant stuffed animal. Fun stuff lol
- Girly Jock!Dani. Vlad is both insanely supportive and incredibly cringe about anything Dani likes to do lol. Which turns out to be sports, mostly cheerleading and horseback riding imo. The cheerleading is the worst, because Vlad is also a football guy XD
- Also somewhat into makeup and fashion, and Vlad will be buying her whatever she asks for
- Vlad also did buy her a horse. Works out though because she actually likes riding lol.
- Everyone thinks Dani got her slightly Feral personality from her dad. She didn’t, she’s just Like That, but she did get Vlad’s ability to scheme. Which is a dangerous combination if you ask me XD
- When Vlad becomes mayor, Dani ends up hanging out with the A-listers, because they run into the same social circle.
- She basically gets adopted as a little sister by Dash, (who’s a stealth favorite of mine since reading Upright and Reversed Deaths by @ectopal , his home life in that fic is canon in my heart <3) who’s not examining why he loves her so much, but he does. He stops wailing on Danny too, it makes Dani sad :(
- Hangs out with Paulina and her friends too, they like to do girly stuff together and Dani also infuses them with Good Character Development lol.
- Rip this girl’s daring life when she gets older though XD
- Uncle Skulker!! Vlad hired Skulker to watch her once when he went on a trip he couldn’t take her on, figuring he could pay Skulker enough, and that Skulker had enough self-preservation instincts, to keep her safe.
- Turns out they get along like, really well. He teaches her to hunt, she takes him out for ice cream, they gossip, they’ve got a fun thing going for them.
- Skulker does also take Dani on hunts with him, and what happens on the hunt stays on the hunt. Dani gets hurt? No she didn’t. That scrape is from cheer practice. Or a knife incident. Don’t worry about it, Dad, I’m okay.
- This does lead to a fun thought there where Dani gets so hurt on a hunt she can’t hide it from Vlad. Either because she shows up back home covered in blood/ectoplasm, or she just doesn’t recover fast enough to hide it >:3
- She’s also friends with Johnny and Kitty. Vlad likes them… less, but Dani adores her bad influence big brother and his GF so they can stay. For now.
- Speaking of big brothers, Danny still loves Dani in this AU. It’s the one thing him and Vlad can agree on. Dani must be protected at all costs <3
- He even donates mid-morph DNA at some point to help stabilize her once Vlad proves he won’t discard her on a whim.
- Danny is having a crisis over the fact thought Dani is friends with some of his enemies though. Especially Skulker. “What do you MEAN Uncle Skulker??” He asks. Skulker, for his part, is less than enthused that Danny knows that him and Dani hang out lol.
- Circling back to “must be protected at all costs” this does open up a very fun thought where Dani, fed up with getting left out of all the ghost fighting fun, goes out and picks a fight with a ghost without her dad or Danny knowing. She just,, maybe bit off more than she could chew and gets wrecked in the process. She gives Vlad quite the scare, nearly dying, and there’s some fun character development for Vlad in there too. Something to the tune of realizing that stifling Dani is only going to hurt her more. Because we like Vlad getting character development in this house <3

Chapter 3: THE Wrong Place, at the Wrong Time
Dahlia Dayne's first week at Hogwarts had not been at all what she had expected.
On the Christmas Break of 1984, four-year-old Dahlia had sat for hours by the chimney of the cottage. She had stuffed her face with Grandma Eloise's famous Christmas biscuits while her brother told her everything there was to know about Hogwarts. For years, Dahlia remembered how he used words like "exciting" and "faultless" to describe his first week. But of course, this had not been the case for Dahlia Dayne.
Although her first day did start off as exciting, the last day of the week ended up being rather stressful.
Despite it being their fifth day of classes, mornings continued to be absolutely chaotic.
Dahlia woke up at exactly 6:00 a.m. to be the first to use the shower. She was nearly done washing her hair when she heard Carina knock on the bathroom door.
Although the girl hadn't said anything to make Dahlia hurry up, she felt slightly pressured to pick up the pace. Once her hair was wrapped in a towel and had put her skirt, tights and white blouse on, she stepped out of the bathroom.
Whilst Carina locked the door behind her, Dahlia sat on her unmade bed to brush her wet hair. She watched an overly ecstatic Freya run up and down while putting books in her school bag and scouting for things in her trunk. Genevieve Connelly, on the other hand, yawned and rubbed her eyes while making her bed.
Dahlia was glad that her friendship with Freya and Genevieve was off to a good start. The girls had no choice but to bond over the week.
It had started on Saturday morning. Freya had wanted to go to the loo after the tour led by the sixth year prefects. Dahlia thought it was rude to not accompany her, and Genevieve decided to tag along.
It had been a silent walk back towards the Slytherin common room until Genevieve shrieked at the top of her lungs at the sight of the Bloody Baron. Freya and Dahlia had laughed so hard, their stomachs ended up aching. When the Baron gave them a nasty stare, Eve joined in on their laugh. Since then, the shyness barrier separating the girls vanished.
In the last week, Dahlia had learned that Evie Connelly was from Naas, Ireland. Dahlia had never been to Ireland, but from what Eve described, it sure sounded nice.
She had shared that her mum had been a Slytherin too when she went to school in the seventies. Dahlia, however, was very intrigued when Eve explained that her mum didn't quite relish the Wizarding World and decided to keep it a secret until Eve got her letter. It made sense to Dahlia when she noticed the girl marvelling at the moving portraits and roaming ghosts.
It also turned out that Freya Wilson lived no more than a ten-minute walking distance from Dahlia's flat. Every word that Freya said added to Dahlia's hypothesis that she was an incredibly clever girl. Freya was also highly energetic. She wanted to go everywhere, see everything, know everyone.
Unfortunately, this led the three girls to get lost in the castle more than twenty times in seven days. When she saw a troubled version of the girl staring at a quill and parchment, Dahlia offered her help to draft the letter announcing to her once Ravenclaw parents that she had been sorted into Slytherin.
Dahlia and the other two girls had stayed up until two in the morning last night. After supper, the girls had decided to review the first half of the Transfiguration alphabet Professor McGonagall was going to quiz them on tomorrow. Their small study session somehow turned into giggles and gossip about their classmates in less than five minutes.
It was suddenly so late that the three girls were practically laughing at nothing. Dahlia even decided to share Danny's gift with them. The girls had discussed the three previous pointers thoroughly and promised to keep on reading at least one every night.
The girls had laughed at the next three until they fell asleep on the floor.
Pointer 187, written by Jane, had let the girls understand how to get the hot water in their shower faster. Pointer 19, written by Isaac, advised them to not try out for the Quidditch team as first-years to avoid humiliation. The girls had especially laughed at Pointer 201, written by Kristen, which simply claimed that boys lost all common sense when they fancied a girl.
The girls became relatively close in that first week. Not close enough for Dahlia to tell them about the tragedies of her life, but close enough to call them her first friends.
She hadn't had as much luck with Carina Avery.
Dahlia knew what being excluded felt like, and she had done everything to not let it happen to Carina. She had truly tried, they all did. Dahlia had invited her to join them on their walks around the castle. Freya had attempted to get words out of her about her life, her home, or maybe just about the things she liked. Eve had even tried to persuade her to stay up and join their late-night conversations.
But Carina Avery just glared at them in silence and shake her head politely. It was almost as if she wanted to be excluded.
Dahlia searched for the green ribbon she had left in her handbag. She had seen many old pictures of her mum using it as a headband to assure her brown curls wouldn't fall on her face. Dahlia decided to try the same thing today, brushing her loose hair after hiding the knot behind her head. She felt slightly guilty for taking mum's lucky ribbon from dad's drawer without permission. She hoped he wouldn't notice it was gone anytime soon, and if he did, she truly wished he wouldn't scold Dahlia for taking it.
Today, the girls were nice enough to wait an additional five minutes for the boys to show some sign of life. Miles and Adrian were the first to run downstairs with frightened faces, expecting a reprimand. It was evident they had just woken up. Their hair was messy, their eyes beady, and their ties had been poorly tied in a rush.
The girls giggled when they saw Warrington and Montague descend the stairs a couple of minutes later. Graham's blushed face was marked with the lines of his bedsheets, while Warrington's golden curls were dripping drops of water all over his shoulders.
Freya was the only one in the group of first-year Slytherins who looked not sleep-deprived while they ate breakfast. The girl had her brown eyes wide open and a pretty smile on her face at all times. There was no sound coming from their section of the table, except for Freya's anxious foot tapping against the floor. She truly looked like she could run five laps around the Quidditch Pitch and still look thrilled.
"Slytherins," a profound voice interrupted Dahlia's thoughts. The boys in front of her instantly straightened their postures and directed their eyes to the origin of the sound. Dahlia looked up to find a pair of dark eyes gawking down at the eight of them. "I expect you to keep this competent behaviour the rest of the school year," Professor Severus Snape announced.
Before any of them could respond in any way, the Potions professor had already walked away.
-------------------------------------------
Without taking History of Magic into account, Dahlia could say she was fascinated by all of her classes.
They hadn't gotten to do any actual magic yet, as all courses had been merely introductory. Dahlia hadn't considered any of the courses to be particularly hard, but in her mental list, Transfigurations earned the title of being the most demanding. The alphabet made little to no sense, but Dahlia was fairly optimistic about being able to turn a coin into a bird by the end of the year.
Contrarily, Herbology, Charms and Astronomy seemed to be more relaxed.
History of Magic had simply been unbearable. After their plentiful lunch on both Tuesday and Thursday, it felt like torture to keep her eyes open whilst Professor Binns listed far too many dead people. Both Ravenclaw and Slytherin students felt the hour-long classes painfully extend as they fought their deep desires of taking a nap. Many had failed in their battle against drowsiness.
Dahlia had been waiting for the last course of the week since Monday, not because she was in desperate need of rest from her classes, but because she couldn't wait to go to Defense Against the Dark Arts again.
At first, she had been slightly concerned about her D.A.D.A. professor, Apolonia Kasprzak.
Dahlia couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the lady who looked over seventy years old come down the stairs with high-heeled boots and perfect condition. The professor had white hair trimmed close to her scalp, which contrasted with her red lips and tattooed-filled hands.
Professor Kasprazk used Monday's class to introduce herself. All Slytherin and Gryffindors students stared in awe as the professor proceeded to narrate in a thick accent the tales of her life as the eldest daughter of a renowned dragonologist family in Poland. The teacher then shared her broad curriculum, revealing she had been a Hit Witch for over twenty years, teacher of the "duelling in the dark" course for Aurors for fifteen, and engaged as an activist for werewolves' rights in the remaining years.
Today, Professor Kasprzak began her first lesson by reminiscing the stories of her misfortunate encounters with vampires back in the fifties (misfortune for the vampires, Dahlia realized).
"Vampires are real?" Eve had asked in a horrified whisper to Dahlia, to which she responded with a gentle nod and a laugh.
"This being said," Professor Kasprzak maintained, looking over at the multiple rows of desks lined up behind her own, "Who can tell me how to identify a vampire?" Her grey eyes took turns to look at Freya and Galilea Harvey with their hands up in the air. The Gryffindor girl and Freya stared at each other with pressed lips while Professor Kasprzak debated who to call on.
Madelyn Selwyn, the sixth year prefect, had taken her time to explain during the castle tour the unwritten rivalry between the Gryffindor and Slytherin Houses. She claimed that no one truly knew what event had triggered the ongoing hatred between the two, but it had simply been like that for centuries. Thankfully, they would only be sharing a few classes this year, including Potions and DADA.
"Ms Wilson," the professor eventually chose.
"Paleness, gauntness, and fangs, professor," Freya replied in a rush.
The professor smiled at the girl. "Very good, Ms Wilson, five points to Slytherin," Professor Kasprzak declared as she commenced pacing between the desks. "And who can tell me what they eat?"
This time Galilea Harvey got picked.
"Blood," she established proudly.
"Ah, well," the professor began, "Bit of a trick question innit? Vampires drink blood, Ms Harvey, I'll award you two points." Galilea looked satisfied enough. "Who can tell me what vampires eat?"
Dahlia looked around to discover that no one raised their hand. Her father had three books about the topic on the bookshelves of his study in the cottage. Dahlia had probably read them once or twice while she was alone.
She knew the answer but felt a bit uneasy about raising her hand. There was a moment of silence. "No one?" the professor pressed. Dahlia remembered Theodore and Aisha's House Cup lecture and decided to give it a go.
Once her hand was in the air, Professor Kasprzak studied her intensely with her eyes. Dahlia felt an odd sensation in her gut by the way she looked at her.
"Ms Dayne?"
"Vampires enjoy sweets like pastries and there are rumours about blood fabricated sweets," Dahlia spoke shyly.
Professor Kasprzak nodded sternly. "Very good, Ms Dayne, ten points to Slytherin."
Dahlia felt the peculiar sensation of pride. In total this week, Warrington and Montague had each been awarded five points in Potions. Miles had earned three in Herbology and five in Charms. Freya had raised her hand every time a teacher had asked something. Dahlia lost track of Freya's points around Wednesday, but she estimated she had more than twenty already. These ten points were Dahlia's first. It was a nice feeling, it left a good taste in her mouth.
The professor ended her class twenty minutes early. As Dahlia and Freya waited for Evie to finish packing her books into her school bag, Professor Kasprzak approached them. She placed her bony hand on Dahlia's shoulder.
"Ms Dayne, would you mind staying a couple of minutes?" the teacher asked with a soft tone. Dahlia felt how her grey eyes analysed her face with utter caution.
"Of course, professor," Dahlia replied nervously. "I'll see you in the common room," she whispered to her friends as they shot concerned looks at Dahlia. The two girls nodded and looked over their shoulders multiple times as they left the classroom.
"Would you like some tea, Ms Dayne?" the professor asked gently.
"Am I in trouble, professor?" Dahlia inquired in immediate response.
Apolonia Kasprzak chuckled. "Of course not, dear! I apologize if I startled you. It was most certainly not my intention. Follow me," the teacher instructed.
She walked towards the end of the classroom and began ascending the stairs that lead to a small office. The room was decently sized. The walls were mainly decorated with photographs of smiling people and shelves that carried strange-looking devices enclosed by cages.
Professor Kasprzak sat behind her desk and motioned to a chair for Dahlia to sit in. She spoke no words as she began pouring tea into small, perfectly white teacups. The professor gave Dahlia a cup and gestured with her head to the milk container and a sugar-filled jar that sat at the end of the desk.
Dahlia hated tea without milk. She poured a generous serving into her teacup and added a single spoon of sugar. She raised the teacup to her lips.
"You are the spitting image of your mother, Ms Dayne," the professor finally spoke.
Dahlia felt her heart stop in her chest. She felt almost frozen as she stared into the teacher's eyes. She immediately set her teacup back down on the desk. No one had ever told her that.
"Many memories came rushing back when I saw you with that green ribbon around your head and your hand up, it was like staring at her," the professor spoke with a soft, melancholic tone. "One of my first students, and one of the finest I've ever had, your mother."
Dahlia felt her hands shake slightly under the table. "How did you know her?" she inquired in a smaller voice than her usual own.
"Your mother was an outstanding student of mine in the Duelling in the Dark course back in the seventies, one of the few to ever defeat me," the professor clarified. "I was struck with great grief when I heard what happened," the professor proceeded cautiously. She noted how the professor twirled the golden ring on her finger nervously. "It truly pains me you didn't get to see how great of a woman she was, Dahlia. You must have been very small when she–"
"Three," Dahlia interrupted. She couldn't bear having to hear the horrid actions of her mother again. She hated being reminded about her very questionable decisions. She also hated being reminded of the consequences such decisions had had. "I don't remember much about her."
"That's truly a shame, my dear," the professor replied.
Dahlia didn't say anything. Instead, she raised the white cup to her lips and took a big sip of tea. She watched Professor Kasprzak do the same. The quiet that had settled in the office felt cold.
Professor Kasprzak placed her teacup back on the desk's wooden surface. She cleared her throat as she commenced opening the drawers of the desk. "I didn't ask you to stay to sadden you, child. I must give you something," she admitted. "I'm a bit disorganized still, but I must have it somewhere in here."
Dahlia watched as the professor finally pulled a thick, red book and set it on top of the desk. The cover was carved with thick golden letters that read "STUDENCI OD 69' DO 84'". Professor Kasprzak pulled out a pair of rectangular glasses from one of the other drawers. She pushed them up to her nose as she flipped the pages rapidly, muttering letters to herself. "I kept a record of all my students, Ms Dayne," the professor explained as she scouted between pages. Dahlia observed the moving pictures in the middle of each passing page and the scribbles Professor Kasprzak had done in the corners.
"Ah, yes! Julia Solis, 1969!" the professor exclaimed and looked over at Dahlia. "If I remember correctly, this picture was taken weeks before she got married to your father." She rotated the book so that Dahlia could see the page. She stood up and leaned over as Dahlia took in every detail of the picture.
The photograph in the middle of the page showed her mother raising her wand and giving it a gentle shake. She looked lovely. Despite the black and white tonalities of the moving picture, Dahlia smiled as she identified the ribbon her mother wore around her head. Her curls fell neatly over her shoulders. The picture didn't miss her grand smile.
"Let's see," the professor chuckled, pushing her glasses up. She pointed at the scribbles on the left side of the page. "Oh how lovely, your mother's patronus was an elephant! Did you know that?"
Dahlia shook her head, keeping her eyes fixed on the page. She didn't know that. She didn't know much actually. It was usually Danny who secretly told her things about her.
It was unfair that he got to know her better than Dahlia did.
"She scored top marks in my course, as well as the Concealment and Disguise, and Battle Instinct," Professor Kasprzak read while pointing at some of the scribbles in the left corner of the page. "Ah, excelled in the nonverbal spells."
Dahlia stared at the page in silence, trying to take all the information in.
"Rip the page off, Ms Dayne," the professor encouraged after a minute of silence. "It is yours to keep."

Dahlia was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Dahlia could have sworn that the Slytherin common room and the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom were on opposite sides of the castle. She knew this wasn't true, but as she descended the Grand Staircase by herself for the first time, something in her mind assured her there was a shorter route than this one.
Dahlia knew she was lost by the time she reached the end of a corridor that she thought would lead to the Great Hall. There was no one around to help her, except for the portrait of a little girl playing with flowers. Dahlia tried to ask for help, but the brunette girl was too busy counting the petals on the flowers.
Dahlia turned on her heels and began to walk back to where she came from in the hopes of finding an older student who could give her directions. Dahlia kept on walking for minutes, wandering past hallways and doors she had never seen before.
Dahlia could finally hear voices and movement as she approached a new corridor towards her left.
On the spur of the moment, Dahlia felt her body collide against something, sending her falling back to the ground. She was relieved her school bag had cushioned her back in the nasty fall.
Astonished, Dahlia looked up to see the two redheaded boys towering over her.
Ever since the tag incident, she had tried to avoid them at all costs. Dahlia Dayne had great plans for her future and a family reputation to maintain. She couldn't let those two boys be an obstacle.
It hadn't been a problem yet, the twins were always seated on the farthest back desk of all the classes they shared while either Evie or Freya forced her to sit with them in the front.
Evie had told Dahlia about them, explaining that when she met them on the train they seemed to be nice boys, well-mannered and even funny. Regardless, Dahlia decided the two best words to describe them were "impulsive" and "childish".
As the boys stood before her, Dahlia could see in their identical faces that were up to no good.
"Sorry!" the one that had bumped against her said as he extended a hand for Dahlia to take.
Dahlia refused to take it. She stood up by herself, shrugging off her dark robes as she did. She gave both of the boys an irritated glare rather than accepting the apology.
Dahlia couldn't tell who was who. With their Gryffindor uniforms, it was even harder to find something to tell the boys apart.
"You should watch where you are going," Dahlia muttered.
"I was!" the boy argued defensively, "you appeared all of a sudden!"
"Fred," the other one said looking over his shoulder, "We don't have much time."
Dahlia gave Fred a stern look before peering to see what George was looking at behind them. That's when Dahlia saw the old man aggressively waving his fist as he ran toward them. "I will get you little beasts!" the man yelled.
"Run!" Fred exclaimed. Dahlia stood still for a moment as she watched both boys sprinting as fast as they could in the direction Dahlia had come from. Suddenly, her feet were moving too. Many questions started to fill her head as she caught up with the two boys. Why were the boys running? Who were they running from?
She could hear the aggravated man get closer to them. "I will disembowel you filthy children!" the man yelled, making the twins laugh.
Dahlia couldn't understand what was funny about filthy disembowelled children.
"Why are you running?" Dahlia called out to the twins as she kept on sprinting. Her feet could barely keep up with theirs.
"Fred and I might have done something," George called back,
Dahlia's heart sunk when they reached the dead-end she had struggled so much to get away from. The three of them stopped and looked at each other with wide eyes. There was no way out. "Well, George," the twin on her right said, "It was fun."
"Yes it was, Fred," the other replied.
"What was fun? What did you two do?" Dahlia inquired as she caught her breath.
"There's no escaping now, you little monsters!" the man growled when he finally reached them.
