An investment firm led by former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper that is devoted to launching security companies in Israel has a new “success” story: helping that country’s military conduct secret mass surveillance of Palestinians in Gaza.

According to The New York Times, hundreds of Palestinians have been targeted by an “expansive and experimental” spying effort to “collect and catalogue” the faces of Palestinians. At times, civilians have been “wrongly flagged” as Hamas militants and then interrogated and tortured. [...]

Three out of five members of the Israeli company’s board of directors are Harper’s partners at Awz Ventures, meaning the former Canadian Prime Minister’s firm effectively controls Corsight.

Using Corsight’s spy tech, the Israeli military picked out Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha at a checkpoint in central Gaza in mid-November, as he was attempting to flee with his family to Egypt. He was separated, detained, and beaten. [...]

A former commander of this unit, retired Israeli Brigadier General Ehud Schneorson, is another of Harper’s advisory partners at Awz Ventures. Becoming a sports psychologist had been easier than Nico expected. 

All he needed was a bachelor's, which he already had, and a Masters' degree which took 18 months and submitting a paper on eating disorders to achieve. Board certification was annoying, Nico just doesn't have that kind of time, but the workaround was simply calling himself a 'performance enchancing counselor.' A corner office in Monaco, a shiny plaque with his name on it, and a star studded roster of athletes and C-list celebrities he'd hosted parties for during his influencer days for potential clientele, he was all set.

F1 hadn't been the goal but at the same time... who better than Nico, who knew exactly how motorsport could chew you out? His karting dreams were long over, but the smell of gasoline and burnt tyres and the roar of the crowd is still his forte. It just so happened Formula One decided mental health awareness was totally in style now, and one of their main sponsors held an event on mindfulness and how it can be achieved drinking more Heineken. Having a father for a World Champion is helpful, when it means one has lifetime passes, and this had been a prime networking goldmine; not for the drivers themselves and their fragile egos at the implication of psychological help -- but sliding his practice's embossed gold card in the suit jacket of one Toto Wolff.

Lewis saw therapy as something good and necessary, but ultimately for other people. And then Abu Dhabi happened. And then the W-13. And Toto had mentioned what Keke Rosberg's son was up to, how it could possibly help him out of his slump, and hearing that name after so long made Lewis' usual 'thanks but not for me' die at the tip of his tongue.

"I'm not going to imply whether all your issues stem from trying to make your father proud or ask you about your childhood. I would remember. I was there." Nico had smiled over his thin-rimmed circular glasses, with that knowing sparkle during their first unofficial session and Lewis was sold.

"As long as you don't expect me to call you 'doctor,' man. Jeez, who would've thought? Dr. Nico Rosberg."

After that, every week unless he's in LA, Lewis finds himself in Nico's chic Monaco office. It's not stuffy like a therapist's office; a turquoise wall and Nico's dad's helmet is on a shelf display, a German national Team jersey hanging on the wall, there's even a YouTube million subscribers golden plate. Lewis is sprawled on the bean bag, the sunlight from the floor to ceiling windows hitting in beams, and not for the first time Lewis has to reconcile the kid he knew has grown up into the adult in distinguished glasses and same golden blonde hair in front of him. Nico dresses like he's about to give a TedTalk, in his monochrome tee and blazer combo, and that somehow puts Lewis more at ease.

"The car's been so fucking shit. I'm not here to fight for, what, p10? That's not me. And the team..." Lewis rants, and it's so freeing to be able to call the car shit without adding in how they're improving bit by bit and other optimistic platitudes that don't mean shit in terms of the championship.

"And the team's been prioritizing Russell over you, I can see how that can be a source of frustration." Nico finishes.

"What? No. He's not -- the team's not. I'm saying, it's annoying enough the car isn't where we were promised it was gonna be, and now every week I'm getting asked if I want to retire, like what's this all for?" Lewis is momentarily taken aback by Nico's claim. Is that what people think? The team... well, George has adapted to the car easier and has been finishing above him but he hadn't felt any particular favouritism from the team... Although he's been the one running experimental setups and helping the team collect data while his teammate gets dubbed Mr. Saturday. The seed of doubt towards the team makes him frown.

"You don't want to retire. Not until the 8th." Nico points out decisively, getting up from his armchair to walk behind Lewis where his plants are.

"I don't. Even if no one believes me, apparently." Lewis rolls his eyes, hearing as Nico spritzes his plants. He could've sworn they were fake.

Lewis feels a hand on his shoulder, surprising him. "You're just going to have to prove them wrong. Like you always do." Nico smiles down at him with absolute conviction, squeezing it once, and then the weight is gone; Nico moving back to his chair.

The gesture was friendly, but it makes something flare inside Lewis. Something about Nico, maybe the fact he can open up to him the way he can't even with the team; maybe because Nico knew him before seven titles, before he was anyone, makes Lewis instinctively trust him in a way he rarely does with new people. But Nico isn't new, even if the glasses are. Lewis finds himself wanting to know more, wanting to fill the gap between the years.

Code Name: Mothra: Queen of Monsters

Object Class: Apollyon/ Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-ABU mainly resides on the island known as Infant Island or SCP-ABU-1 by Foundation staff. Naval Task Fleet Aphrodite-4 "Pegasidae" is responsible for maintaining the block aid secluding the island form the rest of the world. Meanwhile Foundation staff on the Foundation Area Base on SCP-ABU-1 are in charge of collecting the exotic and anomalous plant life for experimental purposes. Foundation staff there are also in charge of maintaining friendly relations with the natives of SCP-ABU-1 and SCP-ABU-2. 

Foundation staff on SCP-ABU-1 and NTF Aphrodite-4 are to alert all Foundation channels if SCP-ABU ever acts agitated and/ or suddenly leaves SCP-ABU-1. From there Foundation satellites and space staff are to monitor where SCP-ABU goes to the best of their abilities. Because of SCP-[data expunged] this won't always be possible. 

If for any reason the Foundation considers SCP-ABQ a threat, SCP-ABU is to be considered a threat as well. As such NTF Aphrodite-4 is to bombard SCP-ABU and alert Space Task Fleet Apollo-1 "Orion's Belt" is in position to kill her with orbital bombardment. However, NTF Aphrodite-4 is to be sure to implement MTF Protocol "Lies of the Moth Man" before considering such an order. It is possible for infiltrators and traitors can give a false order to kill SCP-ABU. MTF Protocol "Lies of the Moth Man", which is a series of tests, was created to prevent such accidents form happening.

Description: SCP-ABU is a rare insectoid belonging to Species of Interest: The Titans. Titans normally consists of reptiles and rarely mammals but even more rarely there are insectoids as well. SCP-ABU is one of those insectoids, a female insect resembling Gynnidomorpha alisman even during larva stage of life,though much stronger and larger. SCP-ABU has a body of 180 meters in length and has grey like texture skin that despite being a Larva is more like an exoskeleton. Even during its first day of life, SCP-ABU was very strong able to tear trees apart by swinging its body around and take in rocket fire and advanced armor piercing rounds with ease. Furthermore, it could spit indestructible silk at MTF units killing them or fracturing bones easily. Testing has shown this silk to be as strong as Titanium with a single strand alone. A single strand is normally 1 inch in thickness, meaning if the Foundation was able to bundle up the silk, the result will always be stronger than any metal on earth.

Only after a day of being born SCP-ABU quickly went into its chrysalis stage of life where its shell was not only indestructible but reported to release a calming tone. The music like sound SCP-ABU released but after and during its chrysalis stage was confirmed to be a Cognito hazard though surprisingly not a harmful one. Those that listen to the song feel a sense of joy and laughter while their anxieties, fears, and depression fade away. SCP-ABU was originally agitated by Foundation staff upon awakening from its egg though the moment it entered its chrysalis stage all agitation ceased. 

One more day passed and SCP-ABU awakened form its chrysalis with a fully mature body and newly grown wings. it's new adult body still had a body length of 180 meters but now with the added wingspan of 280 meters in width. SCP-ABU still has the ability to spit its indestructible silk and sings its calming song but now its wings have anomalous properties. SCP-ABU has the ability to not only enhance the range and power of its song with its wings but can also release a strange powder like substance form them. This powder is highly radioactive yet somehow is able to heal all living things it comes into contact with. Torn limbs, advanced stages of dementia, organ failure, and even necrosis; all can be healed instantly. 

SCP-ABU's radioactive healing wings and calming song has the greatest effect on its fellow Species members the Titans. This radiation has actually been found to link to most Titans one way or another especially with SCP-[data expunged]. As such this radiation has been dubbed Gaia Radiation. Gaia Radiation, unlike normal radiation that inflicts sterility and increases occurrence of developmental abnormalities, heals and increases quality of life for all fauna and flora. 

Gaia Radiation is a form of non-electromagnetic radiation that acts like a super vitamin in energy form capable of reaching through any material to affect all living organisms. How exactly this works is not well understood as Gaia Radiation is extremely difficult to contain and often dissipates when it is. Though what is known is that exposure to Gaia Radiation includes nearly instantaneous regeneration and healing and even enhanced growth when exposed for extended periods of time; this applies to all forms of life. Anywhere where a Titan like SCP-ABU has been will start growing into a lush forest within a single month. It is because of Gaia Radiation that Species of Interest: The Titans exist as large and powerful as they do, despite our laws of nature saying they shouldn't be able to. 

Despite being an insectoid of the Titan species and SCP-ABQ being reptilian, SCP-ABU and SCP-ABQ are mated. Besides the fact that both are Alpha class Titans and both unlike other Titans have anomalous abilities, why they are mated is unknown. SCP-ABU was discovered in 1961 during a Foundation research expedition to map out SCP-ABQ's traveling pattern. In the middle of the pattern, they found SCP-ABU-1 the island where SCP-ABU resided as an egg. On the island of SCP-ABU-1 was found lots of exotic flora life which seemed to resemble ancient flora but was heavily mutated by Gaia radiation. Because of the healing properties of Gaia Radiation and the new forms of plant life found Foundation staff quickly started flooding the island to take samples. 

 Unfortunately, Mobile Task Force Poseidon-5 "Boat Watch" which were assigned as the security of the research expedition got into conflict with the locals of this island. The locals have no biological difference to regular humans of Asian descent. Seemingly these locals have gained above average strength, height, muscle structure, and healing capabilities having been exposed to Gaia Radiation all their lives. As the conflict continued SCP-ABU-2 both revealed themselves. 

SCP-ABU-2 is a set of female twin natives of SCP-ABU-1 both having dark skin, blue eyes, and pure white hair. For whatever reason when these two twins talk, they always do so in unison and furthermore their singing can be used to communicate with SCP-ABU. How they are able to achieve this is unknown, but it is assumed to be thanks to the Gaia Radiation. 

SCP-ABU-2 both started singing causing SCP-ABU to awaken and start attacking MTF Poseidon-5 leading to 24 casualties, and 6 massive injuries. Foundation staff were forced to surrender allowing both SCP-ABU-2 instances to sing SCP-ABU back to sleep though it did so by making is chrysalis form. Foundation staff requested reinforcements but also tried to establish peaceful relations with the natives of SCP-ABU-1. Thankfully this was successful and just in time as SCP-ABU had reached its final form. It was there the SCP-ABU-2 twins told Foundation staff that SCP-ABU was Mothra: Queen of Monsters. Not long after SCP-ABQ appeared form the ocean and showed itself to SCP-ABU. Surprisingly their interaction was brief and surprisingly peaceful almost like the two were mates despite clearly being different sub-species of Titans. That was when the SCP-ABU-2 twins faced Dr. [data expunged] of the research team directly. They told him SCP-ABQ was Gojira, King of Monsters and protector of Mothra. 

Upon learning this the research team was quickly left SCP-ABU-1 and made way to the nearest Foundation Site. The O5 Council declared to have SCP-ABU have the same Object Classification of SCP-ABQ but this time, since SCP-ABU stays on SCP-ABU-1 protection/containment will be focused on the entire island. Since then, for better or worse SCP-ABU has influenced the anomalous world. The greatest rock & roll is the voice of change, and Rage Against the Machine shook the foundations of the status quo – lyrically, sonically, and philosophically. The band mixed hip-hop, punk, metal, funk, and rock in an entirely new way. They took aim at oppressive systems of power – cultural, political, and economic – and set a new standard for how to ignite a revolution through the power of music. 

Formed in 1991, the Los Angeles quartet’s self-titled 1992 debut and 1996’s Evil Empire ushered rap-rock into the mainstream and established Rage Against the Machine as a powerful force that harnessed strength from defying sonic boundaries. Zack de la Rocha’s stinging, hip-hop-inspired vocals drew on his days fronting a hardcore band. The rhythm section of bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk heightened the urgency of de la Rocha’s delivery with deep, heavy grooves grounded by a pummeling backbeat – no rhythm section could maximize volume while staying in the pocket more skillfully. Guitarist Tom Morello took the rap-rock hybridization further than contemporary groups. He used pedals, toggle switches, and alternative tunings to incorporate effects normally created by hip-hop turntables, samplers, and synthesizers into the language of heavy metal through Rage’s driving riffs and iconic solos.     

Rage Against the Machine were part of a musical tradition indebted to the MC5, the Clash, and Public Enemy. While plenty of 1990s rock bands supported social justice issues, Rage Against the Machine’s rebellious politics stood head and shoulders above. Onstage and off, the band members gave a voice to the powerless, calling out local and global inequalities and railing against censorship, corporate cronyism, and government overreach. Their lyrics were smart and pointed; “Freedom” highlighted the plight of Leonard Peltier, an imprisoned Native American leader, while “People of the Sun” showed solidarity with tyrannized Mexican citizens. Even today, their lyrics remain relevant. “Killing in the Name,” a stark indictment of racism and police brutality, still resonates deeply in cities across America. Rage Against the Machine forged brazen protest music for the modern world.

This morning, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fameannounced its class of 2023, which includes Rage Against the Machine. Now, the band has shared a statement thanking the Rock Hall for the induction, and recounting the long, radical journey that led up to the honor. “It is a surprising trajectory for us to be welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Rage Against the Machine wrote. “In 1991 four people in Los Angeles formed a musical group to stand where sound and and solidarity intersect. We called ourselves Rage Against the Machine.”

The group continued: “A band who is as well known for our albums as we are for our fierce opposition to the US war machine, white supremacy and exploitation. A band whose songs drove alternative radio to new heights while right wing media companies tried to purge every song we ever wrote from the airwaves.” Find Rage Against the Machine’s full statement below.

Rage Against the Machine were nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame a total of five times. They have been inducted alongside Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, Willie Nelson, and the Spinners. The 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Friday, November 3, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Last July, Rage Against the Machine set out on their first tour in over a decade, which was scheduled to run well into 2023. Unfortunately, vocalist Zack de la Rocha sustained a leg injury during their second concert in Chicago. By August, the band had canceled the European stint of the reunion tour, followed by the October cancellation of their 2023 trek across North America. The band revealed that the decision was due to de la Rocha’s leg injury—a tear in his left Achilles tendon.

A band who was targeted by police organizations who attempted to ban us from sold out arenas for raising our voices to free Mumia Abu Jamal, Leonard Peltier and other political prisoners

A band who sued the US State Department for their fascist practice of using our music to torture innocent men in Guantanamo Bay

A band who wrote rebel songs in an abandoned, industrial warehouse in the valley that would later dethrone Simon Cowell’s X Factor pop monopoly to occupy the number 1 spot on the UK charts and have the most downloaded song in UK history

A band who funded and organized delegations to stand with Mexican rebel Zapatista communities to expose the Mexican government’s war on indigenous people

A band whose experimentation in fusing punk, rock and hip hop became a genre of its own

I’m truly wondering how Lewis will wake up today. How much pain he has today. It’s truly so tough to see him like this.

After Abu Dhabi we all hoped and wanted him to get a car so good for 2022 and get that title he deserved in 2021, but we could have never guessed it to go like this…

What kind of a slow monster is he driving? Not even just slow, but also porpoising in a - as we’ve seen - dangerous manner. Where it’s so dangerous it made him say he’s going to crash after 10 laps in yesterday? And where - for those who also watched his onboard - saw him almost lose it at T18 quite a lot of times.

And now he’s hurt because of this porpoising and having (too) many experimental parts on his car. Something Mercedes’ immediately CAN do is stop with that and do that during FP alone. With both cars instead of one so you have enough data gathered at the end of it. Now Lewis was driving with way too many experimental parts ending up being hurt bad.

Toto has to stop apologizing after every race and put those targets on peoples back like he told us. I want to see Lewis winning, but most of all not drive a car where he can barely get out of after a race.

Mucho antes que el método experimental viera la luz, los científicos del pasado (llamados entonces filósofos naturales) usaban la razón para asimilar el comportamiento del universo. Esta forma de trabajo condujo a ideas que hoy son consideradas erróneas por la vastedad de la comunidad científica, como que la Tierra es el centro del universo.

Pobres de aquellos que intentaban refutar tales ideas, ya que se oponían a lo que parecía claro para el sentido común y, más aún, a lo que aseguraban sabios indiscutibles como Aristóteles y Ptolomeo. Algunos de ellos padecieron burlas e incluso persecución, tal fue el caso de Giordano Bruno y Galileo Galilei.

La ciencia tiene como objetivo general encontrar la naturaleza real y las causas a los fenómenos que observamos. Los primeros que sabemos que intentaron explicar el mundo lejos de la influencia del misticismo fueron los griegos, en particular, Tales de Mileto; aunque Aristóteles jugó un mayor rol en esto, según varios historiadores.

Si bien es cierto que muchas de las ideas de Aristóteles no son aceptadas en la actualidad, hay que recalcar que sus esfuerzos por explicar el mundo, sin recurrir a dioses, son notables y gran relevancia histórica.

En cierto sentido, debemos las bases del método científico a Aristóteles porque, al contrario de su maestro Platón, él sostenía que la observación cuidadosa y la medición meticulosa seguida de un tiempo prudente de meditación eran la vía para alcanzar el conocimiento. Más aún, Aristóteles recomendaba “hacer una revisión de la literatura” antes de embarcarse en cualquier investigación. A raíz de esto, la biblioteca de Alejandría fue la primera en ofrecer un catálogo de biblioteca como ayuda para los investigadores de la época.

La primera propuesta de un método de investigación semejante al método científico moderno, vino de parte del mundo árabe por Ibn Al-Hassan Ibn Al-Haytham. Él propuso el siguiente sistema:1. Plantear el problema.2. Poner a prueba su hipótesis mediante experimentos. 3. Analizar los resultados y llegar a una conclusión.

Reconoció que una actitud escéptica e inquisitiva, sumada a un sistema de mediciones controlado y riguroso, eran esenciales para la adquisición del saber. Más tarde, Abu Rayhan Al-Biruni hizo notar que los resultados podrían acarrear errores debido a la imperfección de los instrumentos de medición o la falibilidad del observador. La revisión por pares se remonta hasta el médico Al-Rahwi. 

Durante mucho tiempo la ciencia árabe se vio opacada por la iglesia radical, y todas aquellas ideas brillantes no fueron retomadas sino hasta el Renacimiento. En esta era Francis Bacon propuso la forma moderna del método científico, basada en el pensamiento inductivo y que partía de la negación de “ídolos” o nociones recibidas, para así abrirse a nuevos resultados.

Supongo que es una de mis más grandes envidias.

No me malinterpreten, he tenido "amigas" lo que viene siendo gente que se me acerca y de un día para el otro se pegan a mi en el ambiente académico. Pero fuera de ahí, solo experimente aquello cuando se divorciaron mis padres, fue como si salir con mis amigas y tener una adolescencia normal, me fuera permitido (claro, siempre y cuando le agradaran a mi abue y no fueran hombres).

Envidio tanto la amistad que lleva mi primo, él y sus amigos se conocen desde los 7... *suspiro* Mi madre no me dejó experimentar este tipo de amistad, siempre alegaba que las madres de mis amigas eran desagradables o envidiosas y nunca más podría ir a jugar con aquellas niñas.

Fui relegada a la soledad por sus condicionamientos... creo que aquello fue egoísmo?

Mi padre era del tipo que decía: tú familia solo somos nosotros, no tus tíos o tú abuela.

Terminé en una encrucijada en donde no tenía en quien apoyarme ya que no podía confiar en quienes no eran mi familia, ni en los que se suponía "eran mi familia".

Y mis amigos?

Pues nunca tuve, extrañamente siempre terminé en relaciones tóxicas en donde estas chicas que se me acercaban terminaban odiándome porque tenía mejores calificaciones o el chico popular de turno sentía curiosidad por mi.

No sé porque a aquella edad todo el mundo parecía confabularse para formar una novela juvenil de trama barata, en la cual todos actuaban un papel en especifico a mi alrededor. Si pudiera recordar a los personajes diría que había el chico popular, su mejor amigo, el grupo de mean girls, la amiga que esta enamorada del chico popular y lastimosamente... yo creo que era la chica nerd retraída que llamaba la atención del chico popular, que era acosada por las mean girls y su "amiga".

Ja! Creo que todos esperaban que actuara en consideración a su guión, pero... siempre he estado perdida. Mi edad mental a los 16 era de una niña de primaria. Tenía tanta mierda dentro de casa que no ansiaba aceptar la mierda que tenían planeada para mi en el colegio.

Al final, mi ignorancia era tan poderosa que me salvo de un bullying físico.

El mundo como siempre, siendo una mierda... no me extraña que mi cerebro piense que no vale la pena hacer amigos, por mucho que lo desee.

Israel Deploys Expansive Facial Recognition Program in Gaza

The experimental effort, which has not been disclosed, is being used to conduct mass surveillance of Palestinians in Gaza, according to military officials and others.

Within minutes of walking through an Israeli military checkpoint along Gaza’s central highway on Nov. 19, the Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha was asked to step out of the crowd. He put down his 3-year-old son, whom he was carrying, and sat in front of a military jeep.

Half an hour later, Mr. Abu Toha heard his name called. Then he was blindfolded and led away for interrogation.

“I had no idea what was happening or how they could suddenly know my full legal name,” said the 31-year-old, who added that he had no ties to the militant group Hamas and had been trying to leave Gaza for Egypt.

It turned out Mr. Abu Toha had walked into the range of cameras embedded with facial recognition technology, according to three Israeli intelligence officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. After his face was scanned and he was identified, an artificial intelligence program found that the poet was on an Israeli list of wanted persons, they said.

Mr. Abu Toha is one of hundreds of Palestinians who have been picked out by a previously undisclosed Israeli facial recognition program that was started in Gaza late last year. The expansive and experimental effort is being used to conduct mass surveillance there, collecting and cataloging the faces of Palestinians without their knowledge or consent, according to Israeli intelligence officers, military officials and soldiers.

At times, the technology wrongly flagged civilians as wanted Hamas militants, one officer said.

The tour with its fresh format will entail a 3-hour show and embrace an eclectic setlist of over 30 songs. Fans can expect to be regaled with some of his all-time radio hits such as ‘Jugnu’, ‘Paani Paani’, ‘Garmi’, ‘DJ Waale Babu’, ‘Lets Nacho’, ‘Kala Chashma’, ‘Kar Gayi Chull’, ‘Genda Phool’, ‘Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’ and ‘Paagal’, amongst others.

Billed as the biggest gift the artist has ever presented to his global fan community, the full album will be released sometime in mid-March 2024 and will feature a slew of top-ranking collaborators.
