I struggle with what to call these types of games - family games, casual games, welcoming games, gateway games? Basically, these are great games you can play in an hour or under and they are easy enough to teach to most people. I love games like that!

Steve Jackson Games is running a Black Friday sale alongside their holiday sale. Some of the deals are pretty wild, like the Box of Astonishments ($160 worth of games for $100), a Car Wars Mega Bundle ($185 of games/accessories for $100) and the Munchkin Gift Pack ($55 worth of games for $35). They also sell really fun dice. Seriously. Unicorn dice. Circuit dice. Steampunk dice. Roman numeral polyhedrals. Dice where the pips are kitten paw prints. And tons of rainbow dice.

Family board games at my aunt’s house. Obsessed with her paper plates and napkins combination.
Also, we are playing Pirates of the Caribbean Life. My mom is the small olive-green ship in the background: a landlubber who just sold their fancy clothes to make money and is way behind everyone else. I am attempting to convince her that she has a great kinship with Stede Bonnet the Gentleman Pirate. She is singing “Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville.”
Update: Now she is singing “Sloop John B.”
Update: Now she is doing cannon sound effects. (She has had exactly one-half of a pumpkin ale. She is just naturally like this.)

Staff Picks: First Game Ever Played
Here is a collection of some of the @RealWomenGaming staff's first games they remember playing, compiled by @ThiatheBard #Nintendo #BoardGames #MagicTheGathering #retrogames
Our staff love a plethora of games. Most of us have been lucky enough to be playing at least some kind of games since we were young. Here are some of the first games ever played by our staff members! Henry started us off strong with Pools of Radiance on the Commodore 128. “I loved it and it helped push my love of TTRPG based games.”  Salty had a video game in mind with Donkey Kong Country. “I…

Phase 10 is an adventure in our family. We are a family filled with sore losers. Anyways, appreciate some quotes from my grandfather learning how to play for the first time 🥰🥰🥰
“My watch says no events today, but by gosh we could put phase 10 on there” -my grandfather
“Are we still on phase one?” -my grandfather. “Yes, we’re still on phase one.”- us “oh, how many phases are there? 3?” -my grandfather “there are 10”- us “oh that’s bullshit” - my grandfather
“If frogs had wings they wouldn’t bump their butts” -my grandfather (no one has any clue what this means)
This particular game ended with two people rage quitting (one of them was my grandfather)
I won though, so…

Family Games (submission)
Family Games is a great movie you would be interested in (nudge, nudge). You  don't know what's going on till the very end so, SPOILERS: A woman takes her fiance home to meet her dad and his fiance. Turns out the "fiance" is her dad's son who he abandoned decades before. There is a great fight/confrontation at the end when the dad admits he recognized him from the very beginning. Now, it seems like the viewer can decide if these two are an actual couple or not. But, they are extremely cute together and very supportive, so I've decided if they aren't really together now they will be in the future ;)

Hey!
Is this the right movie?
That sounds really interesting about leaving it ambiguous for the viewer.
Thanks for the recommendation!

This series surprised me positively. I` ve started watching it because I wanted something simple (depression is back and I` m seriously considering to quit my main job). I am not a fan of romantic comedies but I needed something stupid to watch but ... it isn` t romcom (or at least not typical). There are some elements of romcom but also lots of love, sex and complicated relationships and most of the time dramas. And those time jumps back and forth (but when you figure it out how they work you may see sense in it because they are like puzzles). Nothing is simple. Neither situations and characters. When you think you know what is going on- you are wrong. Those people have more complicated and twisted relations to each other than you think. Bunch of unhappy and (self)conflicted people. It is really interesting to watch. Definitely I can recommend.

New game: Trash Talk! (2024)
You and your friends are a bunch of possums and I am a scavenging racoon. But we seek to understand each other so using items I have dug out of the trash and a selection of random words, let’s work together to communicate! That’s the “story” behind “Trash Talk”, the newest party game from the lovely people at Friendly Skeleton , who were kind enough to send me a copy. I actually played “Trash…
