Admittedly, Calypso shouldn’t have partaken of an excess amount of wine. For they ended up passing out against a berry bush, curled up happily, bottle in hand…

It’s then they wake up to a tiny being squealing in glee at them. They turn to pause, thinking their dreaming for a few moments when their voice bursts loud and clear to startle them awake from their slumbering stupor,

“Huh…wha…?”

They blink to see the small, winged like being looking excited at their presence,

“Mmm…a-a moment…”

They tiredly rub the sleep from their eyes, clutching the wine bottle in hand,

“This is…”

“I’ve never seen a familiar such as you before…”

Hi, I'm Alexandria Means, I'm 31, a single mom of a special needs child and I like to cosplay. I got into cosplaying about 5 years ago. My first costume was a Sylveon style dress made by Darling Army and I went and bought the ears and tail. I didn't think it was much, but when I went to my first con and people were so supportive, I couldn't believe it.

Here there was this place where people could dress up to be anything they wanted and people were excited and supportive about it. The feeling was magical. I've always been a sort of creative person as it was my outlet.

I have bipolar type 2 and I trend more toward the depressed side, so cosplay gave me this creative outlet to express myself. About two years after I wore that dress, one of my friends talked me into making a costume. I thought it was impossible. But I made Devil Mercy and put it on for Momocon 2017 and people loved it. More importantly, I found that I loved the process and it helped me through some very rough times. Ever since then, I've fallen in love with cosplay and have made three more costumes, each one having more complexity than the last.

I love cosplay because you can be anything you want. You are that character. So if you are normally not confident or something, you can be in costume. In real life, I'm really shy and have social anxiety, but when I put on my costume and walk around a con, I'm not afraid anymore. I love the fact that you can make complex creations out of something as simple as a piece of exercise foam or wood. That's crazy to me.
