hello hi here to force strange thoughts into your brain once again, this time about jrwi (wow who could’ve guessed)

been thinking about this for a little but it’s basically what i think some campaigns would be if not podcasts, i haven’t listened to some of the older ones so i’m sorry they’re not on here :(( if you have any ideas feel free to add them btw :DD

RIPTIDE!!!!! - really long animated series

not an anime though, no matter how much grizzly wants it, it would be an animation style where the characters could have very clearly different nose, face and body shapes, really pushing my riptide nose agenda here sorry, each episode would be like 20-40 minutes long and instead of coming out in seasons there would be massive gaps in between episodes, from 2-6 months long, to leave time for writers and animators to get stuff done (massive team of animators btw, i feel like it would be pretty successful)

PRIME DEFENDERS!! - comics

literally nothing else they could be, just really well made, well performing comics (i’ve already talked about this before you can stalk my talk tag if you really want to find it lmao), the comic company making them would be keeping well away from movies n shit btw

APOTHEOSIS!!! - i wasn’t really sure about this one to be honest

i had to ask my friend and she said anime which i don’t agree with but i can see it, i think maybe a short book series where each book is 150 - 300 pages and is about a different god they have to kill/a different episode, i think that works but if anyone has any better ideas please tell me :D!!

BLOOD IN THE BAYOU!!! - i hate to say it, i really do…

bitb would be a really long really good 80s horror book with strong homoerotic undertones, a satisfied fanbase and lots of active members in the community making fan comics, films, writing, theories and art ect… until well after the book came out……….. and then it would be made into the most egregious and awful live action movie you have ever seen, the most awful casting (like chris pratt as officer dudes….. throws up) and even worse sfx, oh yeah and the characters would be ruined and the story would become so butchered it wouldn’t make sense, they would do some shit like cut out becky so kian just kisses some random lady (removing both a really good and well written character and a layer of kian’s character that i think is super important) and make rolan really be an evil bug spy the whole time so rand has to kill him to save the town also add in a whole new sub plot that never existed like the rand family is secretly a long line of bug alien hunters or something fucking stupid like that and the entire fanbase would murder whoever thought re-writing the story was a good idea (ahaha can you tell ive been through something like this before ahahaha, character morals and motives being removed and whatnot ahahahhahahaha.)

THE SUCKENING!!! - live action series

it would be well made though, unlike the bitb movie it would be its own original thing, have great makeup and effects also be well casted and well shot, well written, ect ect, it would bloody and gory and not suitable for people who can’t handle showing bones and organs all over everywhere, lots of shitty rip off merch would be made though and the fandom would be 99% gay little freaks (normal suckening enjoyers) and 1% homophobic straight white men who get mad whenever they see soda and emizel having gay sex on screen or whatever fag shit that biting thing was

hello fellow Just Roll With It podcast enjoyers. you may call me vel (yes like velrisa. no i will not elaborate). let me shortly detail you my history with jrwi.

i had listened to the first two seasons on the og campaign during dec 2020 thru feb of 2021, and i managed to get through like 25 episodes of riptide before i stopped listening due to Life Problems lol.

fast forward to now. i am starting college very soon, and i realized i needed something to listen to in my idle time. i’ve been thinking abt jrwi a lot recently, so i decided now would be a good time to get back into the series!

i have nobody to talk to abt it directly, so i made this blog to hopefully find likeminded individuals to discuss the series with. i hope a couple of you decide to stick around :)

(i haven’t watched prime defenders yet as i only became a patron last night but i’m currently working through apotheosis and i’ve watched blood in the bayou and all of riptide ^^ my favorites so far are rand, gillion, chip, peter, and kian, and i can already tell william wisp is gonna be way up there on that list lol)

favorite campaign has to be blood in the bayou… riptide obviously is so special to me and prime defenders is SO much fun but something about bitb literally Caught Me In Its Web. i love bugs and horror and ESPECIALLY bug horror <33333 its so insanely good i am so abnormal about timothy rand you have no idea. of course i also do adore apotheosis but it doesnt Hit the same way for me yknow

favorite characters are definitely chip (even though he stole my name), rand, william and ashe!!! i have the bizly character disease to the MAX, all of his characters resonate so much with me. i could talk about those four characters for a million years. i also do looove gillion and jay with my whole heart but i don’t understand them as wholeheartedly as my friends do :3 i have recently been writing an actual essay about gillion bit thats neither here nor there LMAO

I absolutely will, I will take any excuse to rant abt jrwi and try to get ppl to watch it BDKABDN

so to cover the basics jrwi, aka Just Roll With It, is a dnd show! featuring Grizzly, Bizly, Condifiction, and Slimecicle. their current main campaign (and the one I post abt most often) is JRWI: Riptide!

there are other campaigns, past and present, such as Prime Defenders (which is Patreon exclusive, with the first 5 episodes released for free this December), Convergence, The Fated Five/The Original Campaign, and more! They’re all also considered JRWI, but I’ve not rlly touched any of them beyond a bit of PD so I won’t probably be talking abt them (they’re here more for comprehensiveness and if you stumble across content labeled jrwi you don’t know, it’s probably one of these!)

Riptide is a pirate-based D&D campaign, following our main crew, comprised of: Chip, the human rogue, who is captain of the crew and the biggest bastard of the sea, Jay Ferin, a human ranger, who acts as the ship’s navigator and is known for her accuracy in shooting (as well as a few secrets or she might be hiding), and Gillion Tidestrider, (Champion of the Undersea, Hero of the Deep), who is a homebrew paladin/sorcerer multi class triton, who is very new to the whole “life above the sea” thing, let alone the whole “humans” thing, but works through it by strictly following his morals and holding honor above all else in pursuit of his destiny.

The campaign ACTUALLY starts with… none of these characters, but instead a prequel oneshot set 10 years before the events of Riptide, which explores the legend of the Blackrose Pirates. You might even recognize some familiar names!

To avoid this being a Painfully Long post, the rest will be under a cut

So for 1: Angst shouldn’t be an issue here tbh. It’s very much a TAZ-esqe campaign in tone, with majority being adventurous and funny and light hearted…. Until it absolutely punches you with feels. A lot of it is very character-based storytelling (which I rlly enjoy) but it means your mileage depends on how much you invest yourself in those characters. There’s plenty of bits you can look deeper into for angst or character building, but if you don’t *want to* majority of the time it’s fast paced enough to move on from.

if you’re wondering how competent of pirates they are; they didn’t even have a MAP until abt episode 40ish and have ended adventures giving away money on more than one occasion. They’re bad at it <3

One of the things that IMMEDIATELY drew me to jrwi and made me really enjoy it was the DMing style. I think the first episode of Riptide is, frankly, a masterclass in “will I enjoy how this game is run?”. You will know if you’ll enjoy the show or not by the end of episode 1. They don’t want to big themselves down in rules and play much more by rule of cool over all else. SHOULD [x] work like that? Probably not, but it’s cool, so it does now! It’s all abt keeping up that lighter tone and fast enjoyable pace so things don’t get bogged down. The players are willing to make objectively bad outcomes or choices for their characters (possibly worse than the DM would) just because it would be funny.

They do a LOT to flavor the combat to make it engaging to listen to, which is massive for myself: even in TAZ, I’d tune out when initiative rolled, but they add in a lot of flavor, character, and humor into their combat which keeps it engaging for me.

The DM, Grizzly, is great at working with what the players give him and running with it. Whether that be integrating backstory stuff, to *literally changing an entire planned arc* to be more music based after the players decided they wanted to form a band as a goof (which it originally WASNT apparently, but without knowing that I literally could not tell).

ALSO THEY LITERALLY MADE A WHOLE ASS ORIGINAL SONF FOR THEIR FICTIONAL BAND TO PLAY AND I FEEL LIKE THAT DOESNT GET TOUCHED ON ENOUGH

All the players (though I notice it most with Bizly and Grizzly) are great at playing their characters, but especially VISUALLY. Like physically looking at sight lines or having this noticeable change in posture/gesture when in character vs not. As well as some (imo) stellar voice acting moments, it’s just (chefs kiss). Like… don’t get me wrong here, this ain’t “professional actors/voice actors” level of good, but it’s damn nice for your average Joe dnd podcast and helps incentivize watching on YT (for me).

Another big thing for me is the length: episodes average around and hour and a half or so, making it more accessible for my poor attention span (especially with a midroll you can pause in). I’ve never gotten into Crit Role SPECIFICALLY bc of the length of each episode, but JRWI works well for me.

In the end though, like I said, I love characters and it’s (emotionally) a very character driven story. There’s plenty of fantastic adventures and puzzles and the like for people who care more for plot than characters, but the characters are the reason I come back every time. You start with these basic entertaining people then they start to show other sides of them and gain this depth I fucking LOVE. My personal favorite is Chip, but Gill and Jay are both so intruiging as well with some common themes/issues while also being incredibly different. I’m. Trying not to spoil anything here but I just….. yeah <3

ALSO while it’s patreon exclusive and thus requires 10+ a month to access, they have a series called Just Rolled With It where they talk abt the session they just played (what they liked, what they didn’t, theories, more in depth behind the scenes n character shit, etc). And like… the best part of PLAYING dnd is sitting around w your friends geeking out abt your campaign!! Talkin abt ur personal scrunglys!! and now I can do that parasocially with a podcast!!!

It’s not often Percy gets one over on Annabeth during a sparring match. They’re both skilled; Annabeth seems to think he’s replaced Luke as the greatest swordsman of their time, not that it’s a title he’s willing to claim for himself, but she’s been practising since she was seven years old. Annabeth is terrifyingly fast, the short blade of her knife allowing her to dive in close, strike fast, steal victories from right underneath her opponent’s nose. She has lightning reflexes and a sharp mind, able to judge in a split-second whether or not a risk is worth taking.

And, admittedly, she seems markedly less concerned about injuring her boyfriend than Percy is about injuring his girlfriend. Call it the old-fashioned chivalry that Sally had drilled into him, but he’s reluctant to maim the girl he loves. She has no such worries.

But sparring with her is so fun. No one else pushes his boundaries quite as far, no one else tests the limits of his physical strength purely for the sake of combat. Clarisse gets him too angry, the other campers don’t match up. But Annabeth is a challenge, every time, one that usually ends in a draw, dripping sweat, neither quite defeating the other.

Percy hadn’t planned on playing dirty, too. Annabeth had sealed her own fate last week, pulling out whatever judo shit she’d been practising with a few Ares kids in her spare time. She’d won without question, but fairness had certainly been removed from the equation.

So, revenge.

His chest aches with exertion as he circles the training ground, a good twenty or so minutes of intense sparring already behind them. His face is hot and wet, lungs screaming, but his mind remains resolute. Annabeth comes at him again, a gleam in her eyes, and he blocks her strike with his sword, holding her off until she’s forced to concede and step back, too awkwardly positioned to force Riptide from his hands.

Gods, she looks beautiful like this. Panting, sweating, red-faced, determined. Her eyes are wild, turned mad with storms of ambition and victory brewing behind them. Her curls are tied back into a braid, but the flyaways around her face stick to her skin despite attempts to huff them out of the way. There’s something special about getting to see her like this - he might well be the only person who gets this view, the full glory of Annabeth in battle without the terror of knowing she’s going to kill him. It’s a unique privilege, one that allows him to take in her beauty as he simultaneously assesses her weaknesses.

Seizing his opportunity, he charges, bringing his sword down in an arc that forces her backwards, rushing into defence. He can see the cogs turning in her head, trying to predict his next move. She’s incredibly good at that, so much so that his plan is totally out of left field, purely for the element of surprise. As she tries to regain the upper hand, arms trembling with the effort, he suddenly pulls back, ducking down as her retaliating force sends her careening forwards, and at the last minute grabs her legs to pull her over.

Sure, he overshoots a little, and ends up toppling himself in the process, but it doesn’t matter; Annabeth lands in the dust with a thud and a surprised groan, her knife clattering off somewhere to the side, and Percy lands on top of her moments later.

He’s very proud of himself. His face must say so.

“You asshole.”

Her entire left cheek is streaked with dust. She tries to glare at him, but he just laughs, still in disbelief that it had actually worked.

“You overbalanced! I think that means I win,” He crows. It’s his right to, after all - she does it all the time.

“You’re gonna win my fist in your face,” She grumbles, making no attempt to get up or shove him off her. “That was so dirty. I’m kinda impressed.”

Percy laughs. “I knew you would be.” He kisses her cheek (the non-dusty one, facing him and glinting in the sunlight.)

She falls quiet, evidently catching her breath after such an intense fight. Naturally, the peace doesn’t last long, as a voice from somewhere behind them suddenly calls out:

“Are they like, making out? Ew!”

Annabeth lets out a sigh that can only be described as defeated, yet uncaring at the same time. “I… didn’t realise anyone was watching us.”

“They always do, babe.” As much as he hates it, a lot of the campers still find a novelty enjoyment out of watching two of their brightest in any kind of battle. Percy’s never really enjoyed the attention, but it’s something he’s gotten used to ignoring, at least.

She groans again, but still doesn’t move or push him off. “I hate you. They think we’re like, dry humping down here.”

Percy scoffs, mock-indignant. “You don’t hate me, quit lying to yourself. And I’ll have you know, I am not remotelydry. I am marinating in sweat right now.”

“What a lovely thing to tell me when you’re on top of me.”

“Aww, you’re welcome, honeybun!” Percy lays it on thick, hamming up the stupid nickname as he shuffles himself even closer on top of her, wrapping her in his arms. He probably smells and feels gross, but she’s just as bad, and it’s his job, nay, his duty as a boyfriend to be the bane of her life. Annabeth shrieks, wriggling and attempting to escape, but he traps her and cackles with delight.

“Get off of me!”

“What, you don’t like my musk?”

“Is that what you call it?” Annabeth laughs, pretending to gag, “Oh my gods! I’m going to die here!”

“What a wonderful way to go, don’t you think?”

She rolls her eyes, giggling. “It’s not the hero’s death I imagined.”

He nods. “But it’s the one you deserve.”

Batman: Surf’s Up, Jokers Under! Review (The Batman Tie In/Mars Birthday Special!)

Hello all you happy batpeople! And welcome to a special two fer as this is both my birthday present for my good friend Mars, one of my best friends since middle school and my super special tie-in to the gritty, serial killer mystery reboot, The Batman! Could I have gotten them to go with say a riddler episode? Could I have just done an episode of The Batman instead? Yes. Would I have?

This is easily one of the dumbest things i’ve done on this blog and I stand by it, as did Mars when I suggested holding back his birthday review just so I could do this when I realized “Oh yeah the Batman comes out next month”.

It’s been far too long since I watched Adam West Batman. One of the biggest slices of camp to ever exist, wears that on it’s sleeve and as such is throughly enjoyable. It put Batman back on top and gave Adam West a career parodying himself for the rest of his glorious life. And out of all the episodes this stands out as one of the most memorably nuts in a series that prided itself on being as goofy and comic booky as humanly possible. I PROUDLY own a funko from this one (Sadly never got the joker one before it became incredibly expensive but hey), and i’m proud to present that time Joker tried to dominate the world with surfing and batman put on board shorts. So all you ho dad’s join me under the cut for Surf’s Up, Joker’s Under!

We begin our tale at Gotham Point, where the surf lingo is as thick as the

We meet the local surf champ whose name i’ve forgot so i’ll call him hairy joe, as he has more bodyhair than me. I’d show a comparison shot, but that’d be illegal in 30 states and 20 countries. Hairy Joe is dating Barbra Gordon, aka Batgirl though you’d hardly know it as she spends most of the episode out of costume and thus unreconizable. See in this show barbra was a natural brunette, instead of her usual red in the comics (Despite being based on the show version, weird ain’t it). Combine that with her natural 60′s behive and her doting over this pile of hair, sweat and gristle and you have me, a fan of the feisty, super smart, badass Oracle/Batgirl babs of present day utterly disapointed but unsuprised at this version. I guess we all gotta start somewhere.

But a sinister plot is affot as The Joker arrives, played by good old Ceaser Romero who wonderfuly embodies the silver age joker: Goofy, laughy and utterly comitted to corny jokes, int his case his henchman being hang ten and riptide. That said his scheme this episode is entirely joke unrelated but we’ll get to that. He calls his henchman undine, our requisite bit of fanservice, on his hot dog phone, and she picks it up and puts it near her mouth.

The Joker sets his sinister plan into motion at the Hang Ten, the local surf hangout by throwing the owner, Hot Dog Harrigan, into the garbage where he belongs, then having Undyne lure hairy joe up there with a phone call... and fills the phone with gas. Barbra happens to notice the green haired known criminal kidnapping her boyfriend in his car because shockingly, the man with clown makeup plastered over his mustache who just threw a human person in the garbage for giggles is not subtle.

So since she can’t batgirl up since Undyne is there and might notice, she instead phones her dad to phone Batman. So Batman and Robin BATCOPTER their way there in case you needed a reminder batman was the one percent, he just.. casually Batcopters instead of taking the fucking car. I mean the car is atomic so it’s not MUCH better for the envinronment but still.

So while their Batcoptering Joker reveals his evil plan and it’s just... you have to hear it. Okay so his plan is to use his Surfing Experience and Ability Transferometer and Vigor Reverser to take Harry Joe’s surfing skills and youthful stamina so he can become king of the surf. Now you may be thinking this is some big joke or something you know because it’s in the name. But no, this is a genunie plan to become king of the surfers as Gotham is holding the world surfing championships, and then use the idolation of the young people to create a violence gang and take over the gotham then the world.

Over the past few days binging Miraculous Ladybug with my good friend @jess-the-vampire I have seen plans to cook a teenager into soup, stalk a teenage party in the hopes it’ll give you someone to make into a teddy bear themed super villian, and seen a man get turned into a supervillian because a teenager challenged his panther to a race.. and the Joker’s plan is still the most gloriously insane thing i’ve seen all week. He’s going to all this trouble just on the HOPE it’ll make him enough of a cult figure to create a violence gang.. and later once he has gained his ablility it turns out.. IT WORKS. As Batman and Robin arrive there’s a green haired band singing his praises. And we later find out these AREN’T minons, these are just casual surfing fans who think he’s groovy. It’d be enough if he thought this stupid plan would work with no logistics, that’ dbe hilarous.. but what makes it truly legendary is that it would actually work in this universe. God I love this show.

So Batman and Robin arrive to meet with Gordon and Chief O’Hara, the show’s resident irish cop sterotype and Gordon’s bumbling sidekick. And the latter two’s outfits are.... well their comedic gold, and intentional comedic gold at that.

Seriously it’s a joke they made.. that perfectly lands. Just look at them. Now them trading slang as aged like sidewalk mayo, 39.99 at my store, 30 with promo code “THISWILLGIVEYOUGOUT”, but them in those outfits.. that’s truly timeless. Epsecially o’hara’s back to the future part 2 sunglasses.

Batman and Robin are rejected by the locals for being squares and not wearing shorts.... yet the two old men are not only accepted but ONLY Undyne sees anything supscious about them. I’m not kidding. They later inflitrate a meeting that’s just the joker bragging about his surfing and no one notices, with the joker ONLY getting who they are when theyt ake off the disgusies. I.. I don’t even have to write any jokes for that. This show is fucking genius.

Despite being there hours they both got nothing so it’s TO THE BATCAVE to figure out something while Undyne calls to warn the joker. But being a super villian he WANTS Batman to come to him so he can set a trap. But first batman has to consult his top of the line crime computer which spits out a picture of ten toes.

Turns out it’s not batman’s fetish but a clue to go to the ten toes surf board factory that’s been closed. So away they go. But OH NO the joker’s ready for them with poisoness blowfish darts and they can’t get to seawater in time. So we get our mid-episode cliffhanger, since unlike the first two seasons this ain’t a two parter.. and it is sublime. So the Joker’s plan is to MAKE THEM INTO SURFBOARDS. Which sounds like he’s going to pulp them for it but really is just his two minons wipe out and hang ten, because of course they are, COVERING THEM IN RESIN. that’s.. seriously the plan. Oh and how they escape is better.. THEY EXPLODE THEIR WAYS OUT. Batman and Robin are immune to explosions. This is canon now.

What follows is Batmana nd Joker, in goofy shorts, on surf boards doing the goofiest gestures while people narrate their doing surfing moves. It is one of the greatest moments in television history and desreves to be seen with your eyes.

Also Batman has to use the bat shark replelant, lest you thought that was a joke someone made up. No he really has that and really uses it not once but twice, as he also more famously used it in the movie. And not only that he gets EXTRA POINTS for it. I”m not making this up. JOker ends up loosing because he only won in style, but not in surfing despite doing the exact same goofy shit as batman on a surf board. ALL HAIL BATMAN, KING OF THE BEACH.

So soon afterwords our two officers find Hot Dog in the trash can, as O’Hara thought he heard a persona nd Gordon assumed it was the wind. I will remind you he’s been in there for a whole day likely eating stale hot dogs to surivive. THe irony was not lost on Hot Dog Harridan nor the officers. So Joker cheeses it and we get our obligtory corny fight scene with Batgirl FINALLY showing up. It’s as glorious as it sounds complete with outloud sound effects and two nut shots with paddles. I’m not kidding, I rewound the episode JUST to make sure I wasn’t just projecting. batman hits a guy in the nuts with a paddle and so does batgirl. This may be the finest day of my career.

So our heroe win, the bad guys are carted away and hairy joe gets his power back. All’s well. Also there’s a robbery in london. So there’s that

Final Thoughts:

This episode is pure magic. It’s the best kind of camp and I highly recommend you watch it. IT’s free on tubi. While this show ha sa bad reputation it’s the fun kind of goofy, never having taken itself seriously and even with the grim turn batman’s largely taken, it’s still okay to enjoy a version whose just pure fun, camp and everything that makes superheroes great. Meso's Mixtapes: Donna Beneviento

Hello, and welcome to something new I've wanted to do for a long time: Meso's Mixtapes! This is just something for my own enjoyment where I make playlists for characters I like that consist of songs that either remind me of that character or sometimes songs I think that character would like; occasionally, the song will be followed with a reason why that particular song was chosen, or just my own personal notes about the character. I had a lot of fun making this, and I hope you enjoy! Also, if you want to request a character, feel free to do so! Even if I don't know the character/the fandom they're from, I'll still try to do them to the best of my ability, although the resulting playlist might not be as good as the ones with characters I'm familiar with. (I'm also willing to try ocs if given enough information on them, although I don't know if that will be something I'll continue doing; but I think it's worth a try.) Riptide

He forgets how small and squishy you are in comparison to him sometimes and you have to continually remind him since he keeps trying to lay on top of you when you cuddle. It wouldn’t be so bad except you literally can’t breathe when he smothers you like that. A good compromise is for you to lay back and let him wrap his arms around you as best as he can while nuzzling his face into your stomach. He’s also happy to lay back and have you sprawled out on top of him while you ramble on about whatever comes to mind.

Takes every opportunity he can to go swimming with you. If the planet you’re currently on has any sort of body of water that’s safe enough for you then he wants to visit it. He’ll take you cruising in his alt mode but he especially loves to float on his back and have you hang out on top of him like one of those floating bed things you told him about. The only problem with this is if something catches his attention he’ll sit up and send you tumbling into the water by accident though he’s always quick to apologize and make sure you didn’t swallow any water.

He’s very absent minded when it comes to showing affection. If he thinks about holding your hand, then he’ll hold your hand, if he has a thought about kissing you then he kisses you. It’s adorable but occasionally embarrassing as he doesn’t always think about his surroundings first. Megatron had been lecturing the both of you once, for attempting to see if Riptide’s alt mode could glide down the hall given the right push, but he had ignored him, instead fixating on your lips. Before you could think to stop him he had leaned in and pressed his mouth to yours, drawing back with a happy grin. Megatron had just sighed and walked away, so in a way it was a win since you’d gotten out of the lecture, but it was still an embarrassing moment, for you at least.

He gives you lots of little trinkets and gifts, things that he saw that made him think of you. These items range from a cool rock he found to some lost piece of ancient treasure that he just stumbled upon and was like wow neat bet the love of my life would like this.

Dates are very relaxed with him, he’s content with whatever you have planned, and likes it even better if you have nothing planned at all. Drinks at Swerve’s are his go to though movie nights are also another favored activity. Really anytime spent with you is a date to him even if it’s something as simple as napping together.

Fort Max

In public he’s a little more reserved when it comes to affection. He’ll hold your hand and he’s fine with you giving him a quick peck on the check but anything more than that makes him self conscious. In private though he’s much more free with his touch. He’s especially fond of cradling you to his chest or having you curl up in the crook of his neck and enjoys just stroking your hair when you two cuddle.

As of right now you’re only dating but he’s already thinking about asking you to be his conjunx, or to put it in human terms he would like to propose to you. The idea of devoting himself to you in such an intimate way is very appealing and he thinks blending your human marriage traditions with the conjunx rites would be a nice symbol of your inter-species relationship. He can’t wait to be able to introduce you as his spouse/conjunx to people it’s such a nice concept and he thinks about it frequently.

VERY big on romantic gestures, both big and small. He just wants you to know how much he loves and appreciates you and that means planning special dates and purchasing gifts that have a deep emotional meaning to them. For a long time he thought that he wouldn’t be at a point in his life where he could be this happy and this in love but you’ve helped him realize otherwise and nothing he can do will ever be enough to repay you for that.

He’s away fairly often since his job as the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accords requires him to travel. During these periods he calls and or face times with you as frequently as both of your schedules will allow and if he can then he sends you good morning and good night texts. The calls are mostly just him listening to you describe your day, even the most mundane story will hold his attention as long as it’s you telling it. His favorite kind are when you fall asleep in the middle of the call, lulled into slumber by the sound of his voice.

Domestic activities are seemingly mundane but doing them with you gives him a warm feeling in his spark. He doesn’t eat but he likes to watch you prepare your meals and then sits down with a glass of energon so that you can enjoy a sit down dinner together and talk about your day or whatever else comes to mind. Even cleaning is enjoyable to him when you do it together and he especially likes lifting you up so that you can reach the higher hard to get spots that are too small for him to handle.

Fall Out Boy: Mania

Hello everyone! Today i am going to scratch another promo review and decided to do the latest album from Fall Out Boy. I’ve been learning towards wanting to scratch off their other album Save Rock n’ Roll since it is due for an anniversary review; but a promo review theme won out. This is a relatively short album from them at just over a half hour long and features them continuing to develop their current comeback pop sound that they shifted to with their Save Rock n Roll release. I found it to be a pretty interesting work to round out this sound before venturing into a different direction potentially. Let’s begin and see where it takes us.

Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea: The album starts off with a quick electronic bass drum bash and takes little time in getting the album up to a strong dance energy. The rhythm component is pretty engaging and will add to the dance structure of it. Patrick’s vocals are pretty smooth even though they are very heavy on the electronic autotune which at times is a positive and harsh negative in his singing. The lyrics are very entertaining to follow along to while the instrumentals focus on a strict supporting role to him. The inclusion of swearing changes things up a little bit and shows them shifting emphasis on being a complete mainstream product. The electronica usage makes for effective interludes and will help to provide a strong sense of length to this song that would fit well for a live performance as well as a night time club scene. 8.5/10

The Last of the Real Ones (single): This first single begins with a soothing key melody that continues to leave the listener in a solid state of dance. The vocals arrive with a nice sense of catchiness; though of course i will knock the heavy auto tune throughout the album when focused on. The chorus is very energetic yet reserved and pours a nice balance of refined power in Patrick’s delivery. The lyrics are a lot more basic than the last song so don’t expect this one to have as much substance in that area than the last song. It is still pretty easy to follow along to and enjoy; so i would see little issue in continuing on in the album. The other notion from past listens is that the flow of this album would be suitable for a full album performance if they chose. 8/10

Hold Me Tight or Don’t (single): This next single begins with soft whistling and electronic loops beginning before drums arrive to give the song a fresher island pop like feeling. It works decently and does showcase them experimenting in a tasteful manner. The mixing however is turned down a fair bit so it doesn’t have the force in sound that the last two songs had. It definitely focuses them on a different section of pop than they normally dabble in which will be a hit or miss for fans. I think it is a decent approach from them since it will keep the album from getting stale and predictable; with the added bonus of fitting very easy into a mainstream concert setting (tv awards show or something). 7.5/10

Wilson (Experience Mistakes) (single): This next single which showcases that the band still has major label support three albums into their comeback; begins with audio samples and soothing loops which will put a listener into a very relaxed feeling. The vocals have a very atmospheric vibe and the autotune is a lot more balanced on this song than the first two songs. The chorus has a very strong sense of power that will be perfect for wooing a live audience. The lyrics are very strongly written and will provide heavy substance for the listener to follow along to at an easygoing rate. This is definitely one of the stronger songs on the album that features more freshness for the band’s sound and with the further inclusion of swears shows their less dominant focus on mainstream politeness. 8.5/10

Church: This song starts off with low bell rings from an organ and Patrick arrives with a soft and low gospel delivery before signaling for the bass and drums to establish a modest rhythm. Backing female gospel vocals work nicely to support Patrick while he delivers some rather interesting lyrics to follow along to. His voice is very smooth in pacing and general tone which avoids overdoing his high notes. The electronic effects are use to a balance degree to further fit with a gospel feeling in the song and helps to keep a theme going without trying to beat it into the listener’s ears. I would note this as another interesting experiment from the band that fits with the album flow and could possibly be pulled off well live with they were ambitious and theatrical enough with it’s live aspects. 8/10

Heaven’s Gate: This second half of the album continues with the gospel tone of the last song but takes it into a very deep piano ballad tone. Patrick uses this song to really showcase his vocal abilities since he is very much alone on this one with minimal instrumental support. The lyrics are decent and slow moving which will provide a soothing effect on the listener; though over-focusing on them would cause them to feel drawn and lose their interest rather quickly. Other than that i think it would of been better off place towards the end of the album in order to not slow things down too much for the listener but they still have a few more energetic songs to hopefully keep some life in the album. 7/10

Champion (single): This next single is going to be more typical style Fall Out Boy that will be comparable to their last two albums in case the more experimental stuff on here was too far out there for older fans. It begins with a simple electronic opening before Patrick arrives with a small sense of swagger in his voice. The drum beat provides a simple but effective rhythm while the guitars infuse some effects into the background to prop Patrick up a bit further. The chorus goes by very well with a sense of empowerment that will reflect well on a live show and mainstream radio. Patrick does toy around with a rapping like vocal style that works at decently for the flow of the song without appearing to showcase that effort. I will note that like i said earlier; it is a standard Fall Out Boy hit and because of that; is enjoyable but predictable and very simple to come across on the album. 7.5/10

Sunshine Riptide: Patrick brings back a heavy dose of auto tune to create a more rap centric style for his voice. The bass and drums create a rather interesting rasta style that will either be a hit or miss for the listener. They do feature a guest rapper by the name of Burna Boy which performs actually rather well in the song and pretty much could of easily made this song’s style his very own if he was more prominent throughout it. I can definitely say that for only being a half hour long this getting to be a very lengthy album listen from them; though it definitely is intended for a late night atmosphere in order to really appreciate. 7/10

Young and Menace (single): This final single begins with a slow fade in before Patrick’s low vocals set forth to establish a soft sense of tension in the mix. The lyrics are very interesting to follow along to and Patrick’s voice has a very catchy tone to it that resonates nicely off of the drum loops. The chorus is comprised of strong vocal loops and dubstep electronica. I know that this was heavily bashed when it was first released but i actually view this experiment to be one of the strongest on the album. It has its ups and downs of course but this is easily one of the songs to listen to during a rough breeze through in order to get the gist of the album’s sound. 7.5/10

Bishops Knife Trick: This finale piece begins with a very soothing key echo that perfects establishes an atmosphere of farewell. Patrick’s vocal delivery meshes with it nicely and creates a very soothing quality for the listener to unwind to blissfully. The instrumentals liven up slight which provides for some life in the album before it closes. The ambient nature of it too is a nice experiment for the band to test out since it could very easily lose momentum like other songs did on the album but it manages to push through with relative ease. I don’t think that i would of made it four and a half minutes long since it runs the risk of getting the point across to the listener too early on. Other than that; it is a suitable way to close out the album. 8/10

Overall album rating: 7.8/10

Now i definitely do enjoy this album but note that it signals the band approaching the limits of their current sound. They do experiment heavily on here which makes it an interesting album to come across but even then it is predictable in that regard and losing life as the album progresses. It is very easy going which i’m sure is intended and will make for a very good choice to unwind to at night. Due to its soft approach it makes you wonder what anybody other than Patrick does on the album. Obviously you can hear the instruments blended in but there is so much electronica used that they are starting to fall into Maroon 5′s problem where it is hard to distinguish which is an actual band member performance and a computer. Hopefully their next album either changes directions a bit or returns to the blended pop rock energy of their last two albums; which are very well done by the way. I’ve gotta head out now but that’s one more album off of my promo list for you guys. My next one will probably return to an older anniversary review since i gotta start scratching off at least one of them this month before we get closer to the holidays.
