Profile: Levi understands how exhausting life can be, especially in this household. So he’s really glad you can find comfort in bingeing anime or TSL and playing games with him for however long you want. Still, Levi’s convinced you’re some kind of angel for listening to his long-winded ramblings and if you ask him literally anything about the plot or characters he has half a mind to marry you right then and there.

“What’s the password?”

“The second lord…” you began but before you could finish the TSL line, the door already swung open and you were pulled into Levi’s room by your wrist. Blinking to adjust to the dim blue light coming from his fish tank, you closed the door behind you and locked it again. “Someone’s eager today, huh?”

For a second Levi just stared at you like a fish out of water, his eyes flitting back and forth between your teasing grin and his fingers still wrapped around your arm as he processed your words. Then, when his thoughts finished loading he nearly jumped backwards with a shriek.

“I’msosorryHenryIdon’tknowwhatIwasthinkingI’msureyoudon’twanttobetouchedbyadisgustingotakulikeme-” As you watched the colour creep up his face all the way from underneath his collar, Levi was flinging his arms around wildly as if he was trying to swat away a bunch of flies.*

“Levi… LEVI! Text speed 1, okay?” You grabbed him by the shoulders and gave him a reassuring squeeze.

“Just don’t say something like that! Or- Or look at me like that either,” he pouted, warmth still radiating from him. “Give an otaku a warning, you know…”

“My bad,” you giggled, walking past him to plop down in your usual spot. “You’re just too cute when you’re flustered, so you’re kinda doing it to yourself… Levi?”

Noticing he didn’t follow you, you look over your shoulder to see the poor demon frozen in his spot, his eyes wide before–

“HUH?! Cu-Cute? ME??” And before you knew it, he had brought up his hands to shield his glowing face, his lanky figure hunched over. “Woah, that was just like in the secret ending from ‘My super attractive best friend who is now my significant other is coming over to play video games with me and I still can’t believe they’re dating an otaku like me!!’, so cool!!”

You bit back another playful remark and instead held out his controller. “What are we playing today?”

“Oh! There’s a new DLC for Stardrop Mountain coming out today! I really want some of those fire-breathing cows for our farm, we could put them next to the carnivorous chickens!!” His earlier embarrassment completely forgotten, Levi’s orange eyes were lit up with excitement as he went to download the new content. “There’s also this new region unlocked that we totally have to explore. I hear the boss there is super hard but the drops are ultra rare, so farming it might actually be worth it.”

“Sure, sounds good,” you chimed when your demon sheepishly scratched the back of his head before settling down next to you. “Although I’ll probably have to leave most of the fighting to you, I have no idea what mechanics that thing has.”

“Of course! You can play support until you have the pattern down, if you want to.”

For a while, only the clicking of the controllers and some muttered curses coming from Levi were audible. Still, despite your eyes being trained on the screen in front of you, you didn’t miss how Levi shifted beside you or how he kept stealing side glances at you.

“Is everything alright, darling?” Pausing the game, you turned towards the demon, who was busy looking everywhere but in your general direction. “You know you can tell me.”

“I- Uhm- You-” The poor guy looked like he was about to cry. “I wanted to ask if you could uhm… sit in my lap? I mean I totally get why you wouldn’t want to but–”

Before he could get further into his self-deprecating monologue, you had already shuffled over and climbed between his legs. Looking up at him, you were somewhat concerned his eyes would pop out of their sockets at any moment now, so you gently cupped his face and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. Then, while Levi was still rebooting his brain, you wrapped his arms around your middle and put his controller back into his hands.

“Is this better?” You asked, doing your best to keep the teasing lilt out of your tone. It already took him all his confidence to ask and you didn’t want to discourage him from voicing his wants and needs in the future. At his furious nodding, you simply smiled before returning to the game. “Thank you for telling me, my Lord of Shadows.”

“O-of course, Henry.”

There was something very comforting about feeling the rise and fall of Levi’s breathing or the vibrations of his laughter against your back. Whenever he pulled you a little closer to himself, you just pretended not to notice, even if you nearly combusted when he smushed his cheek against your head or left a featherlight kiss there.

* Levi to English: “I’m so sorry, Henry. I don’t know what I was thinking, I’m sure you don’t want to be touched by a disgusting otaku like me-”

Okay, I fully finished Side Order's story with all palettes completed.

Thoughts:

As everyone has been saying already: GAY. SERIOUSLY HOW DID THEY MAKE MARINA AND PEARL SO DAMN GAY IN THIS DLC?? I love them so much.

A lot of people have also been saying this, and now that I have beaten the full game with all weapons, I have to say I agree - an endless mode would be a really good idea.

I also feel like they should have added more bosses. I feel like there aren't enough of a wider variety of bosses in Side Order, I feel like I've fought more bosses in Hero Mode. I never got to play Octo Expansion because I actually only started playing Splatoon 2 over a year ago now. I wanted to make sure I would like the game before spending the money on Splatoon 3 lmfao. And now Splatoon is our special interest lmfao

I feel like the story and lore are just lacking? Not to sound mean lmfao I love Side Order and I like the story, but I do feel like it's not as interesting as it COULD have been. I feel like the trailers and the different promotional art for Side Order really set up a really mysterious kind of story, and lots of theories about like cloning and stuff and I feel like the actual story just didn't end up as interesting as I feel the promotional stuff kinda set it up to be? At least in my opinion.

I love the aesthetics. And the music. GOD THE MUSIC. It's amazing.

I actually like that Side Order is "too easy." It made going up the spire with the weapons I'm usually terrible at using much easier and way more fun than I had anticipated. At some point, it starts to get a little ehhh okay this is kinda boring now but I think that's okay.

I'd love to see speedruns of this.

I think it would have been cool to have different "modes" to play in. Like maybe a mode where you go through the whole spire, but with no color chips, and the rewards are prlz and the higher up you go, the more prlz you get as prize. Or modes where it's all hard floors or all rigorous floors, or all danger, etc.

Speaking of - the danger levels. LMFAO. I love and hate the danger levels. I think

I also think there should've been even more different challenges and stuff.

I think ultimately, I think there just needs to be more variety. Especially considering it's supposed to be a roguelike and how easy and quickly it is to beat the entire game, including the entire game with every weapon.

I love Acht and I so am looking forward to seeing them in future games, I hope!!!

The phrase “we have been aware of the high levels of competency from KT's writers, especially with their work for 3H” is worrying; i'm not going to shit-talk them just for thinking that 3H has a good story, especially when someone's standards for what makes a story good or not is subjective and could be different from ours, but KT's story-telling skills are never going to improve if people keep only telling them that Three Houses' deeply-flawed story was actually a narrative masterpiece, instead of a self-contradicting mess with plot points it introduces solely as gotchas and has no intention of ever following up on in any meaningful way, characters getting assassinated left and right to try and argue that female Ashnard might actually be right and not so different from them in terms of morality and goals (while they're in the middle of fighting for their lives and watching their friends die in battle because she decided to invade their home unprovoked and solely for a landgrab), and an over-powered villain group that should have ended the story long before it even started because the writers decided to give them a stockpile of magic nukes they can launch at anywhere in the world, which was also introduced solely for shock value and without them realizing how much of the story is ruined by making it so that the villains who want to kill everyone and take over the world can just nuke anyone they want (that isn't inside Garreg Mach when they launch it) with no consequences.

I just don't like what it means for the future of FE stories if the worst story in the series keeps getting praised as one of the best, even by separate developers, is all.

For what it's worth, while Engage's sales are apparently not as stellar as Houses in the same timeframe (like House after month 1 and Engage after month 1?), Nopes totally crashed.

Amazon isn't the only market in the world, but in some places in the world (tfw not for amazon.fr) Nopes is now sold at around 15 bucks, which is ridiculous considering older games released on consoles still being in circulation are more expensive than this thing that is barely 1 year old(even the first FEW?).

Also, Engage was supposed to have been released earlier but Covid and Houses being released later than planned meant it was delayed, but Engage was supposed to be Fodlan's antithesis, at least writing wise - you'd think IS would have tried to retrofit more Fodlan themes (maybe more uwu maybe some villains aren't BaD and earl grey because they luf u) but they didn't.

Imo, fwiw, while KT apparently loved how Fodlan was received, IS is aghast and doesn't want to touch it within a 10 meters radius, only if it means selling units in FEH and even there, they sometimes retcon Fodlan units (hello F!Billy/Sothis) or challenge them in various FB (Brave!Supreme Leader, but also in the most recent one, Sylvain harping on his Crust being BaD...) clearly showing how they don't really want to follow KT's direction regarding those units - at times, it's almost as if the CoS receives more development in Heroes than in both Fodlan games!

So I'd like to see what IS has in store for the next FE games (or the next non remake FE game), even if in my opinion, given how Heroes has to retcon/finish the writing (Mercedes reveals more about her Adrestian family in FEH than in two of her games!) for characters just to sell them in the gacha game ffs, speaks volumes on what they think of Fodlan's writing.

On top of that, FE16 was the first game where people received surveys/mails from Nintendo/IS asking them if they understood the game... - so despite Fodlan selling well (better than expected?), imo it's clear the writing isn't to praise, at least for IS, and they don't want anything to do with it (Nopes' DLC was scrapped, when shiny!Rhea's sprite was datamined, so either they made an useless sprite, either this sprite might have been used in a future DLC?)

They can still butcher a future remake (plz no jugdral) by adding pointless supports between units and trying to uwu more than needed the red emperor - or add an OC waifu du jour who will sell merchs and try to uwu her if she is on the side of the red emperor - but I feel like we will see where they will go with a brand new game (since Heroes's writing is... as consistent as a fog and basically circles around "women sad'n'lonely*, men evyl", female playable OC simps after the avatar and is useless in the resolution of the plot because Alfonse will finally find a mc guffin way to defeat the villain of the year).

*i truly hope Vero isn't any indication to what the writing of the future games will be, like heavy retcons from her first apparition to "i was brainwashed and akshually everyone supports me from my home even if i send them to death against askr because the voice in my head told me to do it" because that'd suck, but vero is a young woman, thus she could be monetised for alts, figurines and even DLC content in a main game!

Even when I started making fics I'm still not sure what goes through my mind when it comes to the title or chapter titles its literally the first thing that comes to mind and nothing after that but we will get it one day for sure.

Here's Some WIPs (that's both written and not) you guys can look forward too from me. I'll remove them and add them under the appropriate fic tags once I post them:

Uncle Yamcha fic: It is currently three chapters. The first one is him and Trunks, second is Marron, and the third one is Bra/Bulla. I really want to think of one for him and Goten but nothing has come to my mind. I just think he's more close to Krillin and Bulma where he'd interact more with their kids and I can't think of a scenario for him and Goten or what they would even talk about but maybe something will come. (I've currently sent this off to my Beta for review but lemme know if you guys want to see the un-beta'd version I have on here cause I'm really forward to sharing it)

Untitled EOZ fic following after Goku leaves the Tournament grounds to train Uub. This one sits at about 8k words (not sure exactly cause I added a bunch of notes at the end for my beta to see where my thoughts were going with it all) anyways this one focuses mainly on Trunks, Goten, Marron, Pan, and Bra as really the older kids look forward to what may lie ahead. A lot of it is just me focusing on the dynamics they have with each other. When I saw that dlc for kakorat was going to be focused on that one that really makes me want to share this one. Again let me know if you want to see that.

Based on this Ask here you can already see that I've completed 3 out of my 5 ideas so that leaves the other ones and maybe more if I think of anything else. All of these will probably be added to my Little Events fic. a few little ideas not shared here but I've thought about and have some dialoge in mind but haven't fully created yet.

I want to do something where Mario and Haru interact I just think it'll be so neat.

Maybe something where I do my take on introducing Sarasland and Princess Daisy. Probably along the lines of Peach meeting Daisy for the first time.

I need to hop on the wholesome bros. content at some point and I know I wanna try my hand with Mia and Pio as a part of it.

I think thats it for now...I'll probably add more if I think of something as having somwhere to put it down no matter how small it is can be nice to look at and push me towards getting it done.

M. Bison in SF6…Would the Story Make Sense? (In certain circumstances, yes)

Fans have been wanting M. Bison to come back for SF6. Most of it was just wishful thinking until the Rashid and A.K.I. DLC have been hinting at the possibility of it (and also if you’ve read the Toxicity story). Now with Ed coming along, we’ll definitely see more of what’s to come. But would the story flow make sense?

This basically goes in-line with an older post I made here:

I know a lot of people really want Bison to come back, but with the way the dialogue and cutscenes are written in World Tour, would a Master Bison make sense in the story? Now imagine Bison finally becomes dlc. People will buy him and play his World Tour segments. Sounds cool right? But what if some of those players didn’t bother buying AKI and/or Ed but decided to buy them AFTER finishing Bison’s World Tour? Npc F.A.N.G who came along with the AKI dlc talks as if Bison is still dead and that one day he and the organization will be revived….But Bison is alive because you’ve reached Level 20 and 100 bond points with him. AKI and perhaps Ed dlc story wouldn’t make sense by then. I’m not sure if the devs would address this possibility and would they make changes depending on what has taken place first? Adding dlc Bison as a Master in World Tour would definitely make a HUGE mess out of the flow of story if the earlier dlc characters were to be played afterwards.

BUT the story CAN make sense if it were to go through a certain route. I wrote this a long while ago and had a conversation with a friend about it:

Lol I know it sounds crazy at this point, but I don’t know how the story would flow properly if people never bought AKI nor Ed as dlc and then bam! You got dlc Bison all of sudden without a coherent story lol.”

With that in mind, Bison would have been an expensive character to get. First buying AKI and Ed, and then who knows if there’s additional money involved in finally getting Bison. It certainly sounds like a gacha, but seeing all those avatar gear being the prices as they are, I wouldn’t be surprised if getting Bison or any other sought out future dlc character would be treated in a similar manner. Bison better be S-Tier LOL! Would be better if it were Drive Tickets though, especially if players have to buy AKI and Ed in order to acquire Bison.

story of seasons has taken such a hard decline in its last few entries. i found myself skipping cutscenes and character interactions in pioneers of olive town because not only were they boring, they had no impact on the story or gameplay. i finished the main story in under an in-game year, and i couldn’t help but remember that a wonderful life takes six in-game years to complete. an in-game day could last for 40 minutes in a wonderful life; in pioneers of olive town, a day lasts for under 10 minutes. i also felt that the world of pioneers of olive town was very small— significantly smaller than magical melody, which was developed nearly 20 years earlier. it’s kind of sad to see a game released in 2023 flop in comparison to one released by the same developer for the same franchise two decades ago.

i know there’s some confusion bc of the story of seasons/harvest moon trademark split but as far as i can tell marvelous is still the developer behind the old harvest moon games and the story of seasons games. so what’s with this dip in quality? not in the graphics or gameplay but in the content and value of the games. i’d sooner replay the original wonderful life before i’d replay pioneers of olive town.

it’s even more jarring bc marvelous also is the developer behind the rune factory series, which has had the opposite trajectory— each game is significantly better than the last. rune factory 5 and pioneers of olive town don’t feel like they came from the same company. even rune factory 4 on the 3ds had more depth and value than the recent story of seasons switch games while being also cheaper, at $40 retail.

tl;dr i regret buying pioneers of olive town (and its dlc) even if it was on sale lol

My SPOILERY thoughts on Rain Code: Pre-DLC Edition

I've now finished everything that's available to us before the DLC cases start dropping in one week beginning with "Chapter Desuhiko: Charisma Killed the Cat." I'm totally down to learn more about the supporting detectives in this manner, so that should be a nice treat.

But I've completed the main story, every side quest, unlocked every "Gumshoe Gab," and read through How to Be a Master Detective: A Yakao Furio Case. I've done everything I can do for now.

As such — since I already shared my SPOILER-FREE thoughts over here — let me offer you my SPOILER-HEAVY reactions under the cut below.

So click on for EXTREME SPOILERS regarding things I have questions/misgivings about, things I feel are teasing future sequels, things I adored overall, and more.

By the end, I feel like it's practically impossible to dislike Yuma OR Shinigami. After Chapter 2 makes Yuma AND the player really start to feel like the contract is a burden and Shinigami is unworthy of any trust, the game brilliantly gives us Chapter 3 — the chapter where Shinigami starts to chill the fuck out and they get to confront the most unambiguously evil culprit plot in the whole thing. Kodaka and co. did well to make us start warming back to the partnership right after pointing out the obvious concerns. Our heroes reach their lowest point and then climb back to their best. Shinigami becomes less hyperactive and more sensitive and caring. And of course, Yuma goes from being a weak, frightened little fawn and shifts into The final scene between them is genuinely heartstring-tugging.

The repeated hints about the darkness that Yuma has unleashed, the blood that's on his hands, and the talk from Vivia about the extreme dangers of the Book of Death and how the Book of Death "will destroy the world"... that obviously never went anywhere. I guess we're saving that plot thread for a possible sequel, most likely? (Though I suppose it might be discussed in the DLC... but I personally doubt that.) Because they worked so hard to make us go from "Shinigami is untrustworthy and extremely sketchy" to loving and accepting her at the end, making us revert back to fearing and distrusting Shinigami is going to be emotionally difficult to endure. ... And I live for that shit. :D

I also think there's still merit in my earlier prediction that in an eventual sequel, Yuma will have to face the music for his crimes of repeatedly reaping criminals' souls... and maybe even get reaped himself. The game regularly reminds us of the death on Yuma's conscience. That's gonna come into play somehow, at some point.

Another bit from that earlier post that I still stand by is that, if this series continues, we'll definitely see a case where the person we're trying to exonerate is actually TOTALLY guilty of the crime.

By the way... I once mused that I didn't think Shinigami's "ghost/spirit" design was very distinctive. But after playing the game, I totally embrace it and accept it now. Even though my partner kept calling her "Dollar-Store Gengar," there's a certain genius to her design. She couldn't be too visually distracting if she was going to be flying all over the screen for the sake of quick gags while accompanying you, so making her both a relatively simple design as well as primarily transparent was VERY wise. And purple has come to be associated with notions of poisonous presences and/or ghostly appearances pretty heavily in the past 30+/- years. Very clever.

Another unanswered question: What's with the animal ears on Zilch Alexander and the angrily aggressive nun? They twitch like they're alive! Are these people some kind of human/animal hybrid? Or, wait... since Zilch wears a hat and the nun wears a habit, is this just a little bonus feature of their headgear? Battery-operated fake ears? Whatever the case, Yuma clearly didn't think it was worthy of noting or mentioning, so it must be a fairly common sight in the future.

I predicted "Makoto looks exactly like Yuma under the mask bc of the homunculus experiments" VERY early. Like, literally when I first met Makoto at the start of Chapter 3, I was already there, LOL. But from that moment, I always thought the twist would be that Yuma was the homunculus-copy and Makoto was the original version of him. So I got that backwards. And I definitely didn't think Yuma would wind up being Number One or turn out to have identity-swapped with a minor background character. That was TOTALLY left-field shit for me.

On that same topic... when Chapter 5 began, I was so EPICALLY disappointed. Like, after all the teases about homunculi and what that terminology implies, we get... zombies. Just fuckin' ZOMBIES. The most overdone thing in video games for the past 20 years now!! But as the chapter continued on and the truth about the city became obvious to me, I was really excited by the reveals. I knew something was off about the "meat bun" obsession, but I had no idea where the hell this was going. I mean, why WOULD I? "Homunculus" has never before meant "zombie" :P And of course I had ZERO idea that everyone in town was actually a homunculus replacement for a dead citizen until the game started dropping those HARD hints during the Chapter 5 investigation.

How amazing was that "pink blood" twist in Chapter 5? Brilliant little meta-mystery that really fucked with DR fans' beliefs and expectations. BRILLIANT, I tell you!

One thing that sadly fell flat for me about the conclusion was exactly WHY Yuma went from "I give up, Makoto is right, I need to let him win" over to "NO! I must FIGHT BACK and expose the TRUTH!" It kind of felt like the only reason he did the latter was because Shinigami really wanted him to and was sad that he was giving up, and Yuma clearly cares about Shinigami by then, so he just.... goes on with it. Is it because he realized in that moment that he could successfully expose the truth AND still make everyone happy? Because how the FUCK could he have known how that'd turn out?!? Especially after Chapter 2's conclusion, Yuma had no reason to believe that exposing the truth was going to always be a good thing for everybody. ... Personally, I thought they really needed to make Yuma a lot angrier about Makoto grinding up criminals for meat. That mass-murder would've been a GREAT reason for him to get up and fight back, and it would've made a lot more clear sense as a reason for him to keep going than some vague desire for an idealized world that has every fucking reason to NEVER work in practice. I just... I don't get it.

Back to positive stuff: Chapter 4's murder mystery is one of the best Kodaka has ever put together. Just... no notes, great job, loved it.

I wonder if Vivia really is immortal somehow. The possibility isn't ever strictly denied when it's brought up...

Desuhiko has to be my least favorite of the Other Detectives/Temporary Partners. He's such a damn tool. :P

I hope they eventually give us some DLC or other side modes that let us learn more about the lost Chapter 0 detectives. They have/had so much potential to run deep. I'd be down to play a "Danganronpa S"-style side story that runs like a simplistic board game if it means we'll get more info on them.
