AITA for not complaining about my sex/love life?

A bit nsfw. I'll try to keep it vague.

So I (31FTM) came out and transitioned about 5 years ago. My husband (34, cis M) and I were married beforehand. He was extremely relieved, as he had realized he was gay and didn't know how to tell me. It's like a fairy tale if Disney thought we were marketable 💜 just a bit of context to what happened next.

I have a group of friends, straight cis women my age, who knew me pretransition. They were relatively supportive, minus a few confused questions and a couple of comments early on about how hard it was to remember my name.

I was out to brunch with 3 of them (K, S, L, all early 30s/late 20s). L is engaged, S recently got serious with a guy, and K is perpetually single.

We were all chatting and eventually got on the topic of romance. S was complaining that her boyfriend never did the dishes. L laughed and said she had to essentially train her fiance to do certain household chores. K piped up with some sort of "men are the worst" comment, which I just sort of ignored, until she turned to me and said "So what gets on your nerves about YOUR husband, OP?"

I shrugged and said that sometimes he leaves his socks on the floor, but that's about it. K rolled her eyes and said there had to be SOMETHING that pissed me off about him, like "he's bad in bed or doesn't listen to you." I snapped a little and told her that no, actually, I don't care what you say about your partners but mine is actually really great, and I love him. He's great in bed, he's very caring and passionate, he listens to me all the time, and I won't be convinced to shittalk him.

It got quiet and I just decided to leave cash for my part of the bill and leave. I went home to snuggle into my husband's arms on the couch and tell him what happened. He just laughed and said I could shittalk him if I wanted. I don't think he really got why I was so upset.

That afternoon, K texted me and said I really embarrassed her in front of everyone and wanted me to apologize for what I said. I refused and told her that I wasn't gonna apologize because she assumed I didn't like my husband and I corrected her. She called me a bitch and went radio silent. I texted S and L and asked them if they were okay, no response yet.

My husband thinks I should just apologize, but I don't want to say sorry for refusing to talk badly about someone who supported me during one of the hardest times of my life, even if he'd be fine with it. It just makes me feel wrong.

I wonder how many people realize that the best way to support the cartoons they love is to… buy the merch?

The official merch.

It really is that simple. It’s why Transformers and My Little Pony keep coming back. It’s why there are so many Barbie movies. Why Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe failed but the 3D animated He-Man is thriving. Why Pokemon is the biggest money making franchise of all time and will never not have an anime. Why Bluey, Cocomelon, and other little kid cartoons are having money poured into them while other studios are being cut off ruthlessly. It’s why Frozen and Cars got fucking sequels while The Owl House was reduced to 3 specials for its final season.

Because, for those IPs, people buy the official merch.

Parents aren’t going on Etsy to get a hand-crochet plush of Bluey or Bingo. They’re picking one up at Target. The Transformers collector isn’t buying small batch stickers from a fanartist on redbubble, he’s buying an official hasbro figure at the comic store and his kids a sticker sheet at Walmart. Hand painted cards are never going to replace the Pokemon TCG.

And that’s where companies make their animation budget back. Not through advertisements. Not through subscriptions. Merch.

And it doesn’t matter if the fan stuff is better made. It doesn’t matter if you can commission exactly what you want. As much as it sucks, fan merch is copyright infringement, and the animation companies don’t see a single red cent from it.

You can sign all the petitions you want. You can stream every single one of these cartoons in the background on a repeat to falsify watch numbers, you can post all the fanart and fanfiction you want in an active fandom of millions and it won’t save your show. So long as the cartoon isn’t justifying the expense of animation from official merchandise sales, the companies have no incentive to keep making them.

I’m not saying those actions never work. But the surest way to make sure these companies stay invested in your favorite cartoon, is to make sure their investment in your favorite cartoon pays off.

I’m aware that these companies aren’t making that much merchandise for some of these shows. Definitely not at the level a bunch of shows from my childhood were. In which case we need to be asking three important questions:

Why do they not think these shows are marketable?

Why are they making these shows if they don’t think they are marketable?

How do we let them know we will buy official merch in a quantity that will get their attention?

Money talks to these corporations, so why are they cutting off their ears?

i feel like i’ve been WAITING for the other shoe to drop wrt people’s opinions about watcher for this very reason. not that i think the reaction is completely not understandable but the greater the parasocial relationship, the greater the fallout as soon as public opinion shifts. you don’t have a relationship with these people they’re just content creators, chill

#about me #2024 mood #Batuu Bounding #I've been planning on doing Savi's on our Batuu trip but I'm just not feeling the saber hilts themselves #I want something sleek and fairly smooth and relatively light that I can spin with #that is so not what's going on with the Savi's sabers #so just as we're getting down to the wire here I thought why not look online and see what's out there that more matches my vision #and I found one on Amazon. that can arrive on Sunday. that checks all the boxes of what I was looking for #and it's like. a quarter the price of Savi's #I have heard only wonderful things about the Savi's *experience* but mixed things on the sabers themselves #when I started out on this plan to Batuu-bound for my birthday Savi's sounded like a fun addition to the day #but since then I've come up with a whole Star Wars character with a backstory and a personality and a LIFE #and Savi's is not her path. absolute respect and love to everyone (including my family members) for whom Savi's was the right choice #but I am E X C I T E about the saber I picked out #not sure if I'll take the blade to Disney with me but I'm going to try to rig up the hilt to attach to my belt at least #see kids? getting older is really just about being able to buy yourself the toys you wanted as a kid #with no one to tell you no #and if you're lucky a supportive spouse who yells DO IT! when you doublecheck your instincts lol #hey one minute to go until b i r t h d a y

With the leak being more spread around even with spoiler warnings, and because of a post I saw earlier when the news of the entire ep being leaked was first breaking, I gotta say

This really is disheartening to see. This really does hurt the whole series and the ones behind it. As of right now, we haven't gotten an official release date, yes we got the 21st from the TV listings but I mean no source from Dana or disney, and while most of us on here know about it, more casual fans and even some international fans don't, so the entire episode being leaked could hurt their excitement or love for the premieres that Always (seriously I mean ALWAYS LMAO never forget HM) get an incredible amount of notoriety, which help boost more support for the series, which JUST recently got noticed by disney.

It hurts the chance of the franchise getting more support (ie books, comics, a possible video game, more official merchant, etc) because of the less talk about the episode.

And while yes a lot of people (including Ms Dana Terrace herself) pirate the show, whether it be due to international troubles or insufficient funds to get disney+, what ultimately helps as well is the notoriety each episode gets. Anyone can pirate yet still make 100+ posts about how good each new episode was and it would help!

Yet this time it doesn't help cause this came outta nowhere and now so many are just being spoiled, getting their hype flattened and being pretty inconsiderate to the entire crew who made all of it possible, the same crew who already were disrespected by their very company. (And I do mean everyone! So many of the crew aren't given as much props and respect yet deserve it all the same!)

And ngl, it really sucks considering this is the 2nd to very LAST possible product of The Owl House as a whole. There was so much support for Thanks to Them yet FtF already seems a bit cluttered.

It's not hopeless cause there's still a chance FtF gets a huge amount of support when it officially releases. This is a huge problem tho, one that's already leaking through every big ocial media.

There's really not a point to this post other than just to say, this fucking blows, support the series in any official way you can when it officially releases (Make posts! Draw as much art as you can! Tune into the PostHoots! Make as much noise as you can!), and please be considerate to those who refuse to even look at it until the time is right.

Pros and cons of forcing companies to forfeit the rights to any IP they don't want to continue making content for

Cons:

Shitty sequels and spinoffs made to keep the company from losing the property

Shitty sequels and spinoffs made by people who were not on the original creative team that completely betray the previous canon that was not given sequels because it's story was complete

Canon gets messy

Stories might not ever get a proper end

Pros:

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Season 2

All your favorite cancelled shows come back

Companies stop cancelling shows as much because they don't want to lose rights

#in all seriousness though I support not letting any company hold rights over a particular IP if they don't plan to let it finish #maybe make the rules different between creatives who make the IP and platforms that host it #or just completely end any platform's right to have a show exclusively #make it up to the creatives and studios to decide which platforms get to host it #unfortunately that means disney plus would still have a lot of control because the platform and the studio are connected #but other shows like the dark crystal could just leave Netflix. They could be on any other platform they wanted #so one platform couldn't just cancel #which brings up complicated stuff like how would they secure budget since netflix funded aor but idk #I think platforms would still help fund a show together if they both wanted it.#at the very least though the studio should be allowed to take back their property

thoughts about the new rey movie and people’s reactions to the announcement

i was gonna reblog a post about this and just slide my opinion in the tags but it’s getting to be an essay so i think it warrants its own post

i’m not trying to attack anybody with this but this has been rampant since the announcement and i have thoughts:

i understand and share in the opinion that ben solo is a wasted character and that he (and TROS and the sequel trilogy in general) was severely mishandled, and i would not be sorry to see more of him. adam was one of the best things about this new trilogy. i was hardly a star wars fan until the day i went to see TFA on opening day. that experience was something i’ll never forget and i fell in love with kylo/ben and rey from the second they both appeared on screen during their respective intros. without them i don’t think i would enjoy SW the way i do now.

i’m so happy for daisy to have this new opportunity to continue rey’s story. She deserves it.

And before you chime in--yes, Ben deserves for his story to be continued, too. No one’s ever really gone, and all that. if he comes back i will be screaming on the way to the theaters with the rest of you.

but i have seen so many people state outright since the announcement that they refuse to watch the movie if ben isn’t coming back.

i understand that sentiment, i do--none of us want to get burned again TROS-style. we want to see the dyad together and alive and happy. we want lucasfilms to get a friggin grip and just--DO BETTER.

and remember, this is my opinion, but it rubs me the wrong way when people say they won’t watch the movie without ben (and i’ve seen it said over and over and over both here and on instagram) because it’s sort of implying that rey has no value without ben, like she is not interesting enough on her own.

now i don’t actually believe that’s what people mean when they say that (at least, not everybody) but that’s the feeling i get from it. i love rey and ben equally and so i’ll take any new content with them in it, even if they aren’t together. will it hurt? will it be bittersweet? yeah. but imagine if the new rey movie gets a really low turnout and then disney execs look at the numbers and go ‘hmm--let’s not do that again’ and then a new possible trilogy is cancelled or any chance we get of maybe a dyad reunion is also gone. bc we all know the mouse listens to money above all.

i love rey. i think she’s a great character who has just as much potential as ben and i can’t wait to see what she can do in a film where she’s top billing (until they throw in a mark hamill cameo because we all know he’ll be in it to some degree) but my point still stands. and daisy is a great actress who brought such depth to rey that i’m so excited to see her return and i can’t wait to see her as rey again.

do i still have a tiny bit of hope that it will be better this time and that ben will return? yes. i’m not gonna lie about it. this clown makeup is tattooed on. but it’s a cautious hope and i’m trying not to feed too much into it, because the reality is that it’s rey who’s back and i love her so i’m going to support her because i think she’s interesting and compelling on her own, just as she was in TFA before she ever met Kylo/Ben.

PASSED OUT staring at the disney plus what to watch screen #didn't even get to put the comfort movie on like i had PLANNED to do post shower #I JUST HAVE NO ENERGY EVER AT ALL!! I AM TIRED OF EMOTIONALLY SUPPORTING EVERYONE #I'M GONNA EXPLODE THINGS WITH MY BRAIN #gotta train myself to do that first BUT ONCE I DO. BOOM. THIBGS WILL ESPLODE #dani VENTS #sorry for the splosion tag readers. im just tired. i need a vacay #between loosing fitzy and cinnabud not feeling gr8 and EVERYTHING ELSE THIS YEAR #i am at a limit #i have SURPASSED my limit #cinnabudds fine btw! he was a lil ooc but vet has cleared him of anything BAD #we have some antibiotics to help with an upper respiratory infection #which may be why he's been so down and low energy #he's perked up since coming home from the vet! and we haven't even gotten the antibiotics started yet lol #anyway imma go sleep PROPERLY now that my teeths are clean and nightguard is guarding

I am quite literally begging Disney that if Dior WANTS TO bulk up for her role as Clarisse in future seasons, they will LET HER DO SO. Hollywood has a very long history of forcing actors to stay the same size as they were at the beginning of a project, even if any weight/muscle they gain is completely natural (like..from eating. A normal amount). Disney do NOT prevent her from gaining more muscle if that’s what she wants to do or I SWEAR TO GOD you will catch these hands

#I stg if I see ANY comments saying how I’m supporting studio execs forcing actors to harm their health in order to achieve a certain look #they will be deleted IMMEDIATELY #I do not expect her to get super buff bc she’s playing Clarisse #and even if she still chooses not to bulk up I will still like her in the role as long as she gives a good performance #but if that’s something she wants to do #I’m begging Disney to let her do it instead of stopping her bc it would go against conventional beauty standards #and I am also begging Disney NOT to force her to gain weight/muscle for this role #just…leave the actors alone and respect their wishes #and yeah that goes for all actors in the show #PJO #percy jackson and the olympians #pjo tv adaptation #pjo disney+#clarisse la rue #dior goodjohn #rick riordan

I want to be a crazy fashionista fangirl again 💔

#not that i'm like not anymore. i just feel guilty for enjoying worldly things so i stopped watching tv and listening to music #it's been months. it's torture. i want to watch lightyear and thor and listen to harry's latest album and be an ahgase again and-#but i'm satisfied by things other than God. i'm unholy. so i can't enjoy life anymore #just bible study and praise and prayer and service and holy suffering #i can't believe i'm sitting here not knowing what wonho's facade album sounds like and i won't ever get to watch jackson's cruel mv cuz 😈#i know the song is about »fighting« your demons and i think he wins but Jackson baby boo imma christian i can't be seen streaming that mv😅#it looks risky y'know. i know you've been through some dark times tho. that's the story you're telling #just don't know if God will be pleased with my support of it because i'm second guessing everything 🙄#like i didn't see multiverse because... and it kinda kills me cuz i think that's a pivotal film for following the mcu story #will i ever watch mcu and disney films again? will i listen to music again? will i like clothes without being attacked by anxiety?#all these things of the world. is it ok with God to care about them and enjoy them? everything feels evil now. and most things are 🤷🏽‍♀️#forgive me Lord for the people i love and the things i enjoy. i didn't guard my heart i suppose. i know i can't avoid absolutely everything #but how will i ever enjoy life if i psychoanalyze and scrutinize everything for unholiness? i'll find bad in everything and everyone #i'll have to hate everything....#i'm so tired.... i can't do this...
