Fanfic asks
Thanks to @mossrose10 for tagging me!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
83
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
665k
3. What fandoms do you write for?.
Only Marvel (so far) and mostly just Irondad.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Emergency Contacts Flash gets a hold of Peter's phone at a party, and can only access the emergency contacts. Parker has a "Dad" listed in there, but Flash knows his dad died. As a joke, in the heat of the moment, he texts a ransom message to that contact. He didn't expect a very angry Iron Man to show up minutes later.
Cutting Remarks Peter Parker's field trip ends up being at Stark Industries, thanks to a little push from Pepper. Peter makes Tony promise to stay out of it, but Tony has never been great at keeping his distance. FRIDAY basically calls him a stalker. Kids are mean. Peter is self-sacrificing. You know, the usual.
Better Than I Was Rhodey makes it down to the Tower for a visit, and to meet the "intern" Tony has been so busy with, and is surprised by what he finds there.
Sick Day Shouldas Tony gets a call from Peter's school, asking him to pick Peter up because of a migraine, which turns out to be a result of his senses being haywire.
Outside Insights Since he had a head injury that prompted observation for 24 hours, Peter ends up having to shadow Tony as he attends to some SI business. It happens to be "Family Day," and lots of people are confused about the relationship between Mr. Stark and the kid he brought with him.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try hard to respond to every comment. But sometimes I get woefully behind! :( (Like right now!)
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Do any of my fics have angsty endings? Not really... Maybe Near-Arctic Adventures would count with Rhodey's musings at the end, and looking at the series possibly ending in "Infinity War" happening.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have happy endings... I'm going to randomly pick Birthday Breakout.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not so far. A little constructive criticism here and there. :)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have not. I don't usually read them either.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't think so.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet, though we've talked about it a bunch of times, haha. I've co-brainstormed a bunch, and written a few of those!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
The platonic Peter Parker & Tony Stark one is probably my favorite, but I've liked lots of them in the past. :) Lois/Clark in Lois & Clark: the New Adventures of Superman, Edward/Bella, Jasper/Alice, Spock/Uhura, (that was cheating, wasn't it...)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I don't have any WIPs I don't think I'll finish, unless it's the AU of my soulmates AU that I started. I don't know if I'll ever post it, therefore I'll probably never finish it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Grammar and spelling, attention to body language, fun dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Rambling about things that aren't that interesting, not great at cutting stuff out after I write it. (I'm crap at "killing my darlings.")
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I do some in Italian for Peter and Tony in Hardly Coincidence and the rest of the soulmate universe, but I usually switch to English and just indicate that they're speaking Italian for anything very long. (It has also inspired me to study Italian on Duolingo though, and I have a 225 day streak!)
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I tried writing a Pern fanfiction (Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders) at least 20 years ago. It wasn't good. I didn't make it past the first chapter, and didn't try again until I was almost 40...
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
How am I supposed to answer that? If I was cheating I'd pick the whole Strands in the Rope series, but maybe Visiting Hours is my favorite standalone.
No pressure tags: @fotibrit, @spagbol99, @asyouleft, @opal-earrings, @niniblack and @cajun-fangirl (and anyone else who wants to do it!!!)

7, 12, 16, 18, 20 - that's a lot so take your pick, I just always like seeing your opinions
right back at you! was secretly hoping you would reblog the game :)
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
never really encountered this phenomena before cobra kai except for the vaguest hint of an aversion to samwise gamgee after everyone kept calling him the "real hero," but that aversion never took, and i'm ashamed to admit such weakness even now.
johnny lawrence was one of my favorite characters in cobra kai season one and then i logged onto tumblr and now i just Do Not Get It. a feeling i think from pre-season 3, even, when he was still a good and consistent character in the show. another character was robby. predictably, he was a bit babygirlified and he got soooo much more attention than sam and tory and even miguel and tbh, that made me pout massively. like. i don't care about him :(
i could be intellectual about this (and, okay, clearly the root of this petty hate is that particular sort of frustration that comes over a girl when all the boys in her fourth grade gym class get mad at her for being faster than them and then they refuse to let her play in their recess soccer game even though she's the best player--and it then sticks with her for the rest of her life) but in a vacuum i probably wouldn't feel the way i do. like, my ire is definitely in response to how other people feel about the bully character from 80's sports movie karate kid.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
you can bet that any female character that has ever been called annoying is at the top of this list. feels like girls like that are always popping up and torturing pop-culture consumers. the only one i can name right now is sam larusso, since that's the most recent model.
but also i read pride and prejudice in seventh grade. didn't get a single word of it, but i did understand that mrs. bennett was extremely annoying. then i read it again a few years later and have been her fierce defender ever since. female characters with high-pitched voices and anxiety: i adore. if you don't like those characters, in my head im thinking you're only as intelligent as me at 13.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
any sort of portrayal of spock as someone who is violent and angry and just holding it back constantly bc he hates being half human--i do Not Get It. any sort portrayal of an alien species on star trek in which the aliens learn to embrace their humanity, or something. like, i can't stand it.
i want spock to be super-duper logical and stoic. i want that to be a good thing. i want all alien characteristics to be embraced and explored. i want the weirdness. new trek just isn't doing weirdness enough! and if human morality and social structures are so universally important, stop being cowardly and explain whyyyyy.
this also applies to fanfic which is, in fact, disastrously worse on this subject. especially fanfic based on the 2009 star trek movie.
but okay it's like---the roswell conspiracy is really fun and stuff cause it is really just the government stoking some nonsense so the russians can't figure out all the special-stupid weapons and spy-equipment they're making. and then it means that everything in roswell, nm is alien themed: little green faces everywhere, three-fingered hands waving at you on billboards, "greetings earthlings," 50's era space-art, and so on. I am very into that aesthetic, especially in the middle of nowhere southwest desert with not a mountain or forest for hundred of miles. of course people were looking up and being like "there must be Something out there. look how big."
all good, yes, and silly. but people really believe it and they really believe that the aliens look the way they do! the way the "witnesses" described little looking men with big ol eyes in a big ol head and extra long arms. sweeties! that's a primate! that's an earth-creature! there's no imagination! there's no weirdness! what if the aliens didn't have a face. what if they didn't have eyes! what if they were made of a chalky substance that molted every few minutes to maintain a needed basic pH and their way of observing electromagnetic radiation was not light projected thru a lens but like little pores of mucous all over their body like the one's on sharks (ampullae of lorenzini) that absorb electromagnetic radiation and also give the creature poles which means they can block all visible light with special mind powers and maybe photosynthesize or something.
i realize that fanfiction is largely concerned with two attractive men going at it, but for all that people claim to be "monster fuckers," that really hasn't borne out in star trek fanfic. explore eroticism with the weird, with the actually alien. i want that. that'd be great. i know octavia butler and others already Did That but i want to see a star trek go boldly, you know what i mean. also, i want something more like eroticism for the sake of the erotic--not as metaphor about feminine subjugation or something (no offense ms. butler).
even if that doesn't happen, would love to read a fanfic or watch a tv show in which, for example, spock's journey is not about how oppressive being a vulcan is, or whatever.

Wanna Know a Writer
Thank you very much to @sparrow-ink for the tag - I love doing these when I get the chance! Incidentally, this is also my 1001st post on Tumblr!
How many works do you have on AO3?
It looks like I have 116 right now, but it will be 117 tomorrow (with a short Batman/Superman fic)
What’s your total AO3 word count?
716,792 apparently... I’ve been writing like crazy lately and I still swear that can’t be right, but there you go
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
It looks like I’ve posted fic for 30 (including crossovers and fusions) and there may be more I haven’t posted, so not listing all of them. You can see the whole list here
Following @sparrow-ink‘s example, I’ll let my filesystem speak for itself:
Tumblr media
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Language of Chess has been the undisputed champion for a while (Kirk and Spock flirt using the Vulcan language of chess)
The Old Family Farm is a more recent fic that came up from behind while I wasn’t looking (Clark Kent takes Bruce Wayne to meet his parents)
The Gift Giving Game was my K/S secret santa gift for Herenya_writes (Kirk and Spock stir up rumors as professors at Starfleet Academy)
A Hidden, Personal Thing (Spock offers to mind meld with Kirk)
Human, Vulcan, and Everything in Between (Spock is ace, Kirk is polyamorous, and it works well for them)
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I try to respond to every comment because there’s nothing I like more than talking with people about my writing and the stories that inspire it! I’m more than happy to answer questions on here too, if anyone has any!
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
So, these days I’m generally a firm believer in happy endings, but in the pre-AO3 days, I used to mostly write death!fic and a few highlights actually made it onto AO3:
The Death of Spock - Spock dies during the original five-year mission and Kirk is left to pick up the pieces
Only a Fool - Watson dies at Reichenbach and Holmes is left to pick up the pieces
Honorable mention: Devoted - the inevitable tragedy of Mary Watson (nee Morstan)
Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
As it turns out, the other thing I used to write is crazy crossovers, many of which were never finished, let alone saw the light of day. I’ve dialed back on it (a little), but here are some highlights:
Spock in Wonderland
Millennium Death Note - currently in progress! (What if Light Yagami solved the Millennium Puzzle?)
The Mysterious Mr. Jeeves - Jeeves and Wooster x Everything, but I think the most outlandish one in there would have to be The Phantom of the Opera
Honorable mention: my old BBC Sherlock x Harry Potter - the writing isn’t great and the plot is a bit of a mess, but it will likely always be my most viewed fic
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Only a little bit and mostly just on FanFiction.net - there was one person offended that my big Star Trek TOS x TNG crossover was “secretly” Kirk/Spock. More often I get people who like most of my fics, but then get annoyed about Kirk being polyamorous or Spock being ace or don’t like how I decided to end something, which isn’t terribly helpful, but could be worse.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Nope, don’t read it, don’t write it, just not for me.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge, thankfully.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! I’m honored that people want to translate my stories into other languages (and make podfic of them)!
The first three chapters of Devoted (the tragedy of Mary Watson) are available in Chinese
Enough to Drive a Man to Madness (Mycroft puts up with Sherlock Holmes angsting about Dr. Watson) is available in Russian
Once Upon a Dream (Holmes and Watson dance) is available in Russian
The Appearance of Dorian Gray (Bertie Wooster meets Dorian Gray) has a podfic
And I think someone did a podfic of a scene from A Crazy Little Thing Called Love (the progression of Kirk and Spock’s relationship over The Original Series), but I can’t seem to find it right now
What’s your all time favorite ship?
My first and dearest will always be Holmes/Watson from the original Sherlock Holmes stories
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I’ve gotten to be pretty good at finishing things I want to write, but there’s this huge Disney crossover I started writing with a friend that is glorious and complicated and almost 1/3 of the way done despite being over 90k already. Whenever I think about it, I always think that, yes, I will finish it some day, even though my co-author has lost interest, but the truth is probably not... But who knows, maybe I’ll turn around and have it done for next year’s @wipbigbang!
What are your writing strengths?
I’ve discovered a secret talent for finishing what I start, which is nice - a combination of planning and just keeping at it, slow and steady.
I think I do a good job of capturing characters’ voices, whether in dialogue or narration, and it serves me particularly well when I’m trying to imitate a style - I’m especially proud of some of my Jeeves and Wooster. I can also do some nice flowery prose if put my mind to it.
What are your writing weaknesses?
For all of my love of pretty prose, it’s easy for me to forget to describe things, so my writing can end up fairly sparse. I also feel like I could get better at integrating romance and plot - the romance often ends up getting drowned out by everything else going on, which is especially frustrating because I’m usually writing it because of the romance.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
That’s a good question. Probably Death Note (my friends and I used to ship L/Light) - that’s the oldest fic I have on my computer, at least, but I used to write on paper, so there may be something even older there. The first fandom I posted anything for is Harry Potter (a next-gen OC fic about the daughter of Bellatrix Lestrange - it’s best not to ask). I also posted my first Holmes/Watson fic at about the same time (it’s pretty bad, but I tried).
What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
I’m actually really happy with a couple of my somewhat recent longer fics:
Generations - my Kirk/Spock Star Trek: Generations fix-it
Bertie Solves a Mystery - Jeeves and Wooster get embroiled in a murder mystery and meet Hercule Poirot and Hastings (also Jeeves has a mysterious backstory)
tagging: I’m going to second @plaudiusplants and tag @the-z-part and @marlinspirkhall if you’d like to do it, along with anyone else who wants to go for it!

You loved shore leave but you especially love shore leave at Starbases, when there were people from Earth who celebrated Earth holidays and explained them to other cultures. It really made you feel like you were home again and brightened your moods. This time, shore leave managed to overlap with Halloween and, well, between you and Jim, you had convinced almost the entire crew of the Enterprise to celebrate in one way or another while enjoying the break.
When you had said celebration, you meant costumes and enjoying some candy from around the universe and maybe convincing Spock to finally watch a horror movie or two. Jim Kirk, though, stopped listening after ‘costumes’ and started formulating a plan of his own for the spooky special day, and declined to reply to any of your questions. Instead, the day before Halloween, as you and Uhura coordinated your costumes, Jim knocked on the door and entered before you could say he could come in. He carried a bag with him.
“Hey, you remember that really, really old Earth show we watched a couple of weeks ago?” he asked as he leaned against your dresser. You paused.
“Which one?” you asked, “We watched a lot of them.”
Jim rolled his hand in front of him, stumbling over his words, “The old one! With the girl in the skirt and she fights and there’s gods—”
“Oh.” You nodded. “Yeah, I remember. Why?”
“Didn’t that blonde guy look a lot like Bones?” he asked as he crossed his arms.
You stared at him, the grip on your costume loosening the longer you watched him. Uhura was the one that groaned, though, and shot Jim a look. “Doctor McCoy doesn’t want to dress up for the party.”
Jim, to his credit, merely shrugged. “I wasn’t saying he had to! Just pointing something out.”
You should have taken that as a sign.
You adjusted the sleeves of your Medical blue sweater, smiling as you helped Uhura tie her hair back, making sure that the strands didn’t catch on the carefully crafted Vulcan ears she wore. “You think he’ll like it?” she asked for the tenth time, smoothing her hands over the blue Science top she wore. You turned her around and stared at her, any mirth forced from your face.
“Now you listen here,” you said, trying your hardest to imitate your favorite doctor’s southern twang. Nyota grinned. “Mr. Spock’s gonna think you’re the bee’s knees.”
“McCoy wouldn’t say that,” she pointed out.
You rolled your eyes. “Bones also wouldn’t say that Spock will find you very cute, but I would,” you replied. She touched her ears again and ducked her head. It was then that Jim shot through the small crowd of Enterprise crew members, looking every bit a Prince Charming in his fitted pants and nice waistcoat. He was panting, and his hair was mused from running through the halls of the hotel, but the grin he wore seemed to grow when he finally found you.
“You’re gonna love this,” he wheezed.
“JIM!” the shout rang out over the crowd, drawing the attention of everyone towards the door of the small dining hall.
“Oh, Jim,” Uhura whispered, “What did you do?”
“I did everyone a favor,” he replied. Leonard finally appeared in the doorway, chest heaving with angry pants. His hair was blonde – a blonde that did not look natural, but chemical. Jim leaned over your shoulder as he ducked behind you. “Put, uh,” he cleared his throat and ducked further behind you, “Put peroxide in his conditioner, since he leaves that in forever.” He slapped your back. “Told you he looked like that guy.”
“Cupid,” you replied as you put all the pieces together. The bag. The question. Now this. Leonard’s eyes searched every face as he scanned the room, working his jaw from side to side. He had the wings – something that was probably forced onto him by Jim, or begrudgingly agreed to – and you were a little disappointed that he wasn’t completely shirtless but instead wore a white tunic. His eyes locked onto your face and he stilled for a moment.
He had to recognize who you were dressed as. He had to!
Then his eyes drifted past you to the captain that hid behind your shoulders, and he snarled out an angry, “Jim,” before stalking across the room.
The captain gently shoved you towards the seething CMO and bolted. Leonard caught you and almost stumbled. He glanced down at you, and his fingers pressed into your shoulders. A smile softened the anger on his face. “Is that my shirt?” he asked.
You tugged at the hem and grinned. “Well, I can’t be the CMO without it,” you pointed out. You tilted your head. “Don’t think Halloween is the right day for Cupid,” you teased.
Leonard growled. “Dammit, I told Jim I didn’t want to dress up, least of all like an angel.”
You poked his chest. “To be fair, at least he gave you a shirt,” you said, shrugging, “Cupid – who is a god, mind you – is shirtless in the source material.” Your smile grew. “You pull it off nicely,” you added.
His face tinted. He carded a hand through his hair, then sighed, and grumbled, “It’s gonna take forever for my hair to grow out.” You patted his chest and turned him around, carefully leading him through the crowd towards the drink table. You’d have to thank Jim later – Leonard did look VERY good.

CSI, GUNSMOKE, and STAR TREK: Of Reboots, Remakes and Reinventions
So this whole CSI revival thing has me meditating on a whole bunch of unrelated TV shows, and the tendency of networks to try to replicate success.
Back in the dark ages, when I was a kid, networks were filled with Westerns and Sitcoms and Variety Shows. (Thank you Ed Sullivan for introducing me to so many different kinds of music and comedy I never would have sought out for myself.) I'll admit right now that, for the most part, I hate sitcoms. I'm not even a big fan of comedy films with the exception of Howard Hawks' breakneck version of screwball. The only two sitcoms I maintain a high regard for are The Dick Van Dyke Show and Get Smart. It's the writing. (Get Smart was never a true sitcom; it was a weird pastiche of parody and satire.)
So that brings us to westerns, a form I also tend to dislike, with the exception of Gunsmoke. In many ways, it is the quintessential western, by virtue of lasting so long, and, in others, it's not a western at all but a vehicle for morality plays and character studies in a western setting. At its core is a group of diverse misfits who come together to make a family; despite often unsavory or tragic backstories, they were united in their search for truth and justice and their love for one another.
I think one of the reasons Gunsmoke survived so long was twofold: the core characters and its ability to reinvent itself. Early on, the morality plays were more black and white, good versus evil in a very raw, harsh environment. The term that most comes to mind is stark, although the relationships among the principles were already complex. As Dodge grew, the "bad guys" became more complex, blurring the lines between good and evil. While some truly evil folks still turned up, there were more shades of gray, more bad choices, often born of desperation in an unforgiving landscape, than simply being "born bad." In the latter years of the series, while there were still episodes that explored the relationships among the principles, many episodes were character studies of either Dodge residents or transients.
Surprisingly, the black and white hour long episodes between 1961 and 1966 are some of the darkest TV has ever produced. Happy endings were not part of the formula. Some I would characterize as downright nihilistic. Not your stereotypical TV western. Several TV historians attribute this bleak depiction of frontier life as contributing to the declining ratings in the early to mid 1960s; the show would have been cancelled had it not been for Mrs. Paley, whose favorite show it was.
Gene Roddenberry once said that Star Trek was Gunsmoke in space. On a universe level, he was perhaps talking about frontiers: Gunsmoke was set on the American Frontier and Star Trek "the Final Frontier." Within the show itself, however, it too is about a group of diverse misfits who come together to make a family. It is perhaps worth noting that much of Roddenberry's early TV career was spent in westerns.
(As an aside, I was watching The Long Voyage Home a couple of months ago, and I started laughing out loud at an exchange between Spock and McCoy. My brother asked what was that funny. I said that the whole scene was so Doc and Festus. And it was.)
The original Star Trek was a failure as a TV series. It only lasted 3 years with no great ratings. Yeah I was one of those who wrote letters to NBC when they threatened to cancel it after the 2nd season. The characters and the concepts within it, however, had made an indelible mark on the consciousness of a generation.
For the most part, I hate movies based on TV shows, since I regard the TV and movie experiences to be basically incompatible. Both are on film, but that's where the similarity ends. I also loathe reboots. Star Trek is the only franchise that achieved success in both: the film and the reboot, primarily, I think, because the vision remained the same throughout all of its manifestations. The movies based on the OG show are not a redo but a continuation of the story of those characters first introduced in 1966. And I think as a TV series that TNG was actually better.
CSI has always reminded me of a weird combination of Gunsmoke and Star Trek, mainly because of the whole make a family thing. And the common bond among the family members. There are parallels that can be drawn among characters in all of the shows, but they are, for the most part, analogous at best.
As a TV show, I think CSI lost its way after Grissom left. Gunsmoke never lost Matt, and Star Trek never lost Kirk. The two earlier shows held onto their core characters for their entire runs, well almost. When Amanda Blake decided to take a year off from Gunsmoke in the 20th season, the show had a void. While the overall ratings were still good, I suspect the coveted women 18-49 demo took a huge hit.
For the most part, for me, TV shows are just TV shows. There are those I enjoy as in the moment entertainment. Rarely do I think about them after the credits roll. My go to show is Law and Order. It's comfortable. But I never connected to any of the characters in any substantial way. It is a true procedural. Criminal Intent is a whole other ball of wax, but that's due to Vincent D'Onofrio's Bobby Goren, who is easily in my Top Five of TV characters.
I'm not sure why CSI went so wrong after Grissom left. I suspect a large part of it was not only actor turnover but writing turnover. A loss of continuum both in front and in back of the camera. Initially, I think they were beset by panic: in an effort to fill the Grissom void, they decided to make it about Langston and not the team. The more fractured the team, the more fractured the show.
At the risk of offending some folks, I never cared about Langston, Russell, Finn or Morgan. Compared to the original team, they always seemed more caricatures than characters to me. In the later seasons, even Catherine, Nick, Greg and Sara seemed to lose a lot of their dimensions.
I have no idea what the CSI reboot will be trying to be. On the one hand, it could be trying to be TNG, but then what are Gil and Sara doing there? They certainly can't be part of a found family, since their family isn't included. There has to be some kind of viable backstory for them suddenly to give up whatever it is they have been doing to come back to the lab to save the day.
(In some of my potential scenarios, I suppose it possible they are globe-trotting NatGeo explorers engaged in scientific studies of whales and sharks, birds and bees, but they retain the Vegas residence to which they return to write up their treatises, thereby maintaining contact with the goings on at the lab. Yeah that's pretty far-fetched too.)
I suppose my fondest hope is that we will learn that several of the original CSI writers and production staff have signed back on, so that something of the original vision can filter through.
Shows can reinvent themselves. And they can be successful in different manifestations. In order to do so, however, there needs to be consistency in design and execution. There needs to be a coherent vision in terms of what the show is trying to do and to say.
And there really, really needs to be cast chemistry.
Here's hoping.

the end was very predictable and i pretty much already knew halfway through the movie what was gonna happen. but it still was quite thrilling and I did enjoy watching it
6.5/10
2. unhinged
After a confrontation with an unstable man at an intersection, a woman becomes becomes the target of his rage.
starring: Russel Crowe, Caren Pistorius, Gabriel Batemen
hm idk, I didn’t really like it, my sister didn’t really like it but my mom did, I think. it just seemed so, no overdramatic but just too much in a way
3/10
3. in time
In a future where people stop aging after 25 and need to buy time to live, the rich become immortal while others cease to exist. So, Will is on the run with a hostage in a desperate bid to survive.

starring: Robert Downy Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johanson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany
hell yes, one of my favourite marvel movies. Wanda and Pietro.. Hawkeye.. all the little jokes throughout the entire movie and of course the scene where everyone tries to lift thor’s hammer, what’s not to love about this movie
10/10
5. songbird
In 2024 a pandemic ravages the world and it’s cities. Centering a handful of people as they naviagete the obstacles currently hindering society: disease, marital law, quarantine, and vigilantes.
starring: K.J. Apa, Sofia Carson, Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stromare, Alexandra Daddario, Craig Robinson
I really enjoyed watching this. yeah sure, the ending was obvious but I was still glued to the screen. I also felt super weird watching this, kinda surreal because we are basically living a more harmless version of this rn. I really liked seeing sofia carson in such a movie, I’ve only seen her in the descendants so this was a bit of a change haha. I’m not that big of a fan of kj but he was great as well and i really loved his characters style.
7/10
6. star trek
The brash James T. Kirk tries to live up to his father’s legacy with Mr. Spock keeping him in check as a vengeful Romulan from the future creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time.
starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Carl Urban, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Zoe Zaldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin
I put it on because I wanted to have some background noise while playing sims but I ended up playing like 20 minutes and then just watching the movie haha I forgot how good it was, and the others as well, aaand I totally forgot carl urban was in it, so that was a little surprise. anyways, can recommend watching them if you’re into sci-fi action movies but at the same time, if you’re into that I’m pretty sure you’ve already watched them.
7.5/10
bonus: I also watched star trek beyond the other day but this time I was barely paying attention so I can't really say too much, but it's also quite good👍🏻
7. step up all in
All-stars from the previous Step up installments come together in glittering Las Vegas, battling for a victory that could define their dreams and their careers.
starring: Ryan Guzman, Briana Evigan, Adam Sevani, Misha Gabriel Hamilton, Sephen Stevo Jones, David Schreibman, Mari Koda, Alyson Stoner, Izabella Miko
definetly one of my favourite dance movies. highly recommend it!! I’d like it more without the romancde but it’s fine, I guess, I can live with it haha and the last performance... wow just wow that’s all I can say to that. y’all go watch it
9/10
8. project almanac
A group of teens discover secret plans of a time machine, and construct one. However, things start to get out of control.
starring: Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Virginia Gardner
okay... I did enjoy watching it! the beginning was a little slow imo but then it just got more and more intense which was kinda nice. god, at some point the main guy kept making the wrong decisions and that was very frustrating to watch. the ending was alright, spoiler ahead (I guess) I would have liked the ending more if it was the exact same as the beginning, meaning that the movie is just one big time loop and the events from the movie were about to repeat themselves. but that's just my opinion🤷🏻‍♀️
6.5/10
9. ant man
Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his Mentor Dr. Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
starring: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, David Dastmalchian, T.I.
another one of my favorite mcu movies. it's just fun and easy and doesn't have a lot of pain in it. the giant ant it's my favorite part haha I want it as a pet
9/10
10. space sweepers
Set in the year 2092 and follows the crew of a space junk collector ship called The Victory. When they discover a humanoid robot named Dorothy that's known to be a weapon of mass destruction, they get involved in a risky business deal.
starring: Song Joong-Kim, Kim Tae-ri, Seon-kyu Jin, Hyang-gi Kim, Richard Armitage, Ye-Rin Park
I really loved this movie. I cried like 6 times haha, which came unexpected. (or maybe it's because I'm suppose to get my period any day now) I did not think I was going to enjoy this movie as much as I did, at all. it was fun, it was exciting, it was sad (even my dad said that) the plot was good, the visual effects were amazing, it did feel like I was watching this movie for like 5 hours but not in a bad way and I am now kinda emotionally attached to the characters haha (I might do a rewatch). another thing I really liked was the language/synchronization. in the original version they speak mostly korean and english but also some other languages and it's the same in the synchronizations. the dialogue of the main characters is in the language you pick but every other character (I guess) is a different language and I absolutely love that. I highly recommend watching this!!
also, its was super weird seeing Richard Armitage not as a dwarf hahaha
10/10
11. christiane f.
A teen girl in 1970's Berlin becomes addicted to heroin. Everything in her life slowly begins to distort and disappear as she befriends a small crew of junkies and falls in love with a drug-abusing male prostitute.
starring: Natja Brunckhorst, Thomas Haustein, Jens Kuphal, Christiane Reichelt
I binged the series the other day and after the last episode this movie was in the "watch next" thingy idk and I thought "well, why not" and watched it. good movie, definitely!! I really liked that they didn't show the highs of doing heroin but focused on the negative effects it has on someone and what it's doing to your body. it is a super realistic but very very dark movie. the actors were all about 15/16 years old and looked very young which was a good and kinda disturbing thing because christiane and her friend were like 13/14 when that all happened and it made you realise that there were kids doing all that stuff
9/10
12. jurrasic world
A new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.
starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D'Onofrio
13. jurassic world fallen kingdom
When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon
I am tired and don't really want to say all that much other than both of them are very good and I do like them. good action/adventure movies. can definitely recommend them. I definitely like the first one more because it feels like (just a little bit) that the main story in the second one is the same as in the first one, someone creates a new dinosaur species to make more money and something goes terribly wrong along the way. but it's still entertaining!
jurassic wolrd: 7.5/10
jurassic world fallen kingdom: 7/10

December 2: 1x26 Errand of Mercy
Errand of Mercy is truly a trip. I’m swiftly losing my ability to be coherent because I need to go to sleep but here are some attempts:
First of all this is, of course, a straight-up, pure, unfiltered Kirk/Spock episode with a tiny bit of unrequited Kor/Kirk on the side. Like, we’re not even going to pretend to find stuff for the rest of the crew today. I see you, Gene Coon.
This is the first Klingon ep. I just... the actual Klingon-centric episodes ARE good, but the Klingons in general are pretty boring and I legit don’t understand why they became the standard Star Trek villain. (DC Fontana apparently thought that it was because their make up was simpler v. the Romulans, acc. to Amazon trivia and....I’ll buy that.)
Is the “cultural scale” called the Richter cultural scale? I seem to recall another scale with the exact same name....
I get why there would be such a scale but they are dead wrong about where the Organians fall on it.
Anyway not to harp on this yet again but @ fanom this isn’t the military right?? Lol
Oh, no, it’s Code One! No idea what that means but the music tells me it’s a big deal and it’s bad!
“Curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want.” He’s talking about war but I can think of some other things that fall into this category.
I think it’s pretty funny that Kirk records his Captain’s logs in public.
CAPTAIN SULU.
“There’s a war happening, so Mr. Spock and I will just leave the ship... together.”
“You’ll get out of here, Sulu, and leave Spock and I... alone.”
“You’ll fall back to rendezvous with the rest of the Fleet in the Laurentian system.”
Why do these people show no interest in us beaming down into their village? Hmmm, I wonder. If the Organians really were what K and S think they are, beaming down in that way would be uh a bad idea.
Spock seems much less awkward at gesturing than Kirk does.
Finally, by the end of the season, they’ve figured out the context for the Enterprise: Starfleet, the Federation, etc.
I wish the Organians were our alien overlords and taylor.
So the Klingons are a military dictatorship.
Kirk finds them so frustrating. I feel like this ep falls into the genre “Kirk is frustrated by hippies.” All this generic peace talk and faultlessly chill attitudes are just not him.
“I’m a soldier, not a diplomat.” That’s why Spock likes him so much.
The Organians are trying to follow the Prime Directive but Kirk is making it SO HARD.
“Space vehicles.”
I know the Klingons are actually supposed to be in yellow face but you know what it looks like black face to me and I RE-ALLY wish they had not done that.
They look good in those Organian outfits. Love that they kept their command and science colors lol. I feel like this is the sort of outfit AOS Kirk wishes he had in that boring ass closet of his.
Mr. Spock does not look like an Organian.
I MUST know more about these “not uncommon” Vulcan merchants. “Dealing in kevas and trillium.”
KOR IS SO INTO KIRK. This flirting is the least subtle. “You’ll be taught to use your tongue.” “Where is your smile?” “You’re a ram among sheep.” “I need your obedience.” “You seem to be in command.” Is all of this supposed to sound sexual or...?
Right up there with “a stallion must first be broken.”
Whereas Kirk is so not into this. That expression says, “Don’t even think about talking about Spock’s tongue.”
The mind sifter is actually a crazy advanced sci fi machine and STID wanted us to think Klingons don’t have warp usdfsf go fuck yourself.
Kirk is so turned on by Spock’s mental strength.
Every spare moment of this ep is given over to K/S flirting. They legit act like an old married couple. “I thought you were going to fight that guy.” “I just might.” Or whatever.
I love that Kirk’s method of fighting is to literally launch his WHOLE BODY at enemies.
Whereas Spock’s there just running awkwardly in the background. He is Not coordinated friends.
Kirk’s speeches ARE admirable. He is lacking context here but in general if they WERE an oppressed people, this should be inspiring.
“For some reason, he feels as though he must destroy you.”
This Kor and Kirk scene... Kirk literally canNOT stop himself from flirting. His default smile is Charming. “Nothing...inconsequential [was destroyed] I hope...” Flirty smile, wink.
GO CLIMB A TREE I MEAN WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT.
We are the same species...tigers...hunters
Is this not the same cell they always use?
I feel an “and there was only one cell” fic coming on...
The Organians are actually kind of hilarious. They’ll basically let these rando aliens do whatever they want, as long as they do no violence. That’s it, that’s the one rule.”Your captors planned to do violence to you, and to that I said...naw.”
THIS is real Pacifism @ Commander Spock.
Kirk ready to go out in a blaze of fire for a bunch of annoying hippies like “I’m going to white savior you now, ungrateful Organians.”(I say this with love; I love him.)
Can you believe Kirk and Spock are about to die in an unwinnable fight of 2 against Lots of Klingons, and they’re using their last moments to FLIRT AGAIN?
Gene Coon loves writing dialogue in which Spock calculates statistics and Kirk is turned on.
Also can you BELIEVE he just pulls Spock along by the arm? Any excuse to touch him.
Okay the Organians are officially tired of your bullshit.
Too hot! Hot damn!
“We find interference in others’ affairs most disgusting.” Prime Directive! Like I said!
This is basically the plot of A Taste of Armageddon except in that ep Kirk was the Organians.
“People have the right to handle their own affairs.” Is he wrong though??
The Organians are like “okay, we all had our fun here, now get out. Seriously.”
Can you imagine how fucking weird it would be to just randomly see this alien dude materialize in the White House, or, like, Starfleet San Francisco HQ, or wherever the “home world” of the Federation is supposed to be? Just a little throwaway line in there.
By the end Kor is just straight up hilarious. He’s giving off real Ian McKellan in Vicious vibes when he says “I can handle them.”
“I guess that takes care of the war.” Yep! Very efficient!
The “it” in “It would have been glorious” is DEFINITELY not the war lol.
Good game, good game.
“I was furious with the Organians for stopping a war I didn’t want.” I’m sorry but could not THAT have been the plot of STID?
“Spock, your math was wrong the whole time.” And now Spock and Kirk can BOTH sulk lol.
Those were all of my liveblog thoughts and it’s late but.... I had so many additional thoughts on this episode... Like a lot more.
First, I love when humanoids turn out to not be humanoids, that’s one of the best things.
Second, I think this is a very gutsy episode to air at the time, and that it would still be a gutsy episode to air now. I feel like it’s one of the peanut gallery’s favorite criticisms of ST nowadays to say it’s “colonialist” but this ep makes it pretty clear it’s not--that’s the opposite of the lesson of this story.
To attempt to explain better: I completely and unironically love Kirk but I do recognize that like all 3 dimensional characters he has flaws. In this ep, I thought that while his speeches and general point of view and strategic plan were definitely right for situations a population is oppressed--that people do have the power to fight back against dictatorships, even when the odds are bad, and that it is worth it to have the courage to fight back against such oppression--he was ultimately shown to be wrong in this instance because he wasn’t actually coming into that situation. He didn’t understand as much as he thought he did. He thought he was going to be the savior here: taking control for peoples who didn't know better, saving them from oppression, and then gifting them with technology and advancement as he understood it. The Federation wouldn't have enslaved them, but the Federation did want to use them. But the Organians really truly didn't need help--the native people understood their own needs better than the outside people. That's the lesson I took from the episode. Your intentions can be good but if you're coming into a foreign situation looking to control it, without understanding the actual people involved, you’re not being a true friend or ally, and you're likely to do no more harm than good. Opposition to tyranny has to come from the source, the oppressed peoples themselves.
When he refers to “weak, innocent people” standing in the way of superpowers in the beginning--he’s not attempting to derogatory, but that is a pretty demeaning characterization.
I also thought it interesting that the Organians can take any form they want and put their society at any stage of "advancement" they want and they chose a basic agrarian aesthetic. Cottagecore rights.
Kirk really had a confirmation bias when it came to the Organians. He had an image of them--innocent, weak, oppressed--and he only took information that fit with that characterization, rather than listening to them and what they were saying.
My mom and I also discussed whether this was IC or OOC of Kirk. I’m of two minds, myself. I think Kirk at his best is much more open-minded than this. His core morality is good faith, peace, friendliness, and care for all life forms, and there are plenty of examples of this (Charlie X, Mud’s Women, and The Corbomite Maneuver all immediately come to mind.) But he does have a blind spot that I think comes up often enough to be canonically part of his character: if something is threatening or killing his crew, or his people more broadly (the Federation), then ALL he cares about is neutralizing the threat. Rare alien? Possible scientific discovery? Might not have the full details of the situation? Doesn’t matter. I’m thinking The Man Trap, The Devil in the Dark, Arena. He wants to protect aliens, but not if the alien is killing his crew. He wants to make overtures of friendship, but not if the new being has already been aggressive.
I mean like I said... a part of me is like "no he is better than this!" but another part is like... well he does have that 'soldier' side of him, he is intensely loyal to his people. The “evil” Kirk of The Enemy Within. I think he just sometimes gets these blinders in certain situations when he's just sure he's right, which is very human.
Also although he's between McCoy and Spock on the continuum of "an objective right thing exists for all people and in all situations and we should always follow that morality" and "morality itself is relative, we should be respectful of alien ways of living even when we don’t understand them" I think in general Kirk and the show is more like McCoy. There IS a right morality here. (I’m thinking of The Apple or even A Taste of Armageddon.)
I also maintain that to say in 1967 "the very personality trait of being warlike is a common denominator between enemies at war" is a dramatic statement.
My mother suggested that Kirk was “strangely appealing” in his desire to save the Organians, with or without their help, and I do agree... I think that’s the complexity of the episode. The overall thrust of the plot is that Kirk was wrong--he’s left embarrassed at the end. I stand by what I said above. And they certainly go out of their way to show that the Klingons and Federation have something in common--namely, as I said, their very capacity to wage war, and interest in waging war.
BUT, as much as I get the point that they have certain similarities with the Federation--and I think this concept of 'these war-worthy disagreements seem trivial to an advanced and neutral species' is interesting, and even more so in comparison with A Taste of Armageddon which, as I said, is this same scenario from the Organians' POV essentially--at the same time it's a bit irritating to hear the democratic Federation compared to the oppressive dictatorship of the Klingons. Like yeah, okay, none of them are light beings and they both wanted to destroy each other--point taken. But would the Federation park itself on a random planet and kill 200 people the first day? I think not. So in this sense Kirk IS right. The Klingons are an adversary worth fighting, just not over the Organians.
I don’t know what I would think of his position if the Organians were being harmed but were also just...actually sheep. Like I guess I would say "well they have to have a reason.” And in fact they did--their bodies cannot be harmed, so they really don't care if the Klingons pretend to harm them. But I just can't comprehend people being like really honestly okay with that level of oppression, as opposed to too scared or too beaten down or too brainwashed to fight it, which is different.
...And from there we went into a discussion of curative v transformative fandom and yet more on what’s wrong with AOS sdfasfjsaldf it’s past 1 am I can’t be stopped BUT I SHOULD BE STOPPED.

Was tagged by @forgotten-envies for this tag game. Warning, it’s a long one.
your name and then what you would have named yourself: Name’s Jessi (short for Jessica). I think I would have named myself after a tree or plant. Like Aspen or something. I really like tree names.
astrological sign (sun/moon/rising if you know them): I’m a Virgo. That’s all I know lol. I’ve never really identified with it much—I’m just not a nice/gentle enough person for it.
when did you join tumblr and why?: I joined a little over a year ago because I wanted to get involved with the Star Trek fandom. I started writing fanfic for Star Trek pretty soon after I watched TOS, and I wanted a platform to interact with other fic writers and my readers.
top 5 fandoms: Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Stormlight Archives, Star Wars, and the Witcher.
top 5 favorite films: Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Voyage Home, Pride and Prejudice, The Princess Bride, and Phantom of the Opera
go to song when you wanna Feel something: “Hold On” by Chord Overstreet
what’s your religion or faith if you have one?: Good question!
a song that makes you feel seen: “She Used To Be Mine” by Sara Bareilles
if you could have any career: Any career? Something in space for sure, especially if it involved discovery of distant planets or functioning as some kind of ambassador to aliens. More realistically, a professor of English and Literature somewhere, with an emphasis on how science fiction reflects humanity.
do you have a type?: I want to say no, but I bet I do. I mean, I’m demi, so it’s more of a personality thing with me, but it varies from person to person. People who give good hugs/cuddles are high on the metaphorical list though!
what does your heart/soul yearn for: To be remembered when I’m gone. I want my name—or at least my deeds—to be spoken of in generations. I want to do something meaningful with my life.
if you had to describe yourself in 5 words to someone who doesn’t know you: sarcastic, writer, observant, nerdy, passionate (wow that sounds really lame idk man)
favorite subjects in school: English by far, although I also enjoy history (specifically World History) and Physics.
where does your soul feel most at home: Curled up on the couch surrounded by my family with a fire going. We don’t have to be talking. just existing in the same space in comfort and love is enough.
top 5 fictional characters: Kaladin Stormblessed, Spock, Aragorn, Obi-Wan, and Elizabeth Bennet. (That is a very male-dominated list, which I have some thoughts about, but I’m not gonna derail this post.)
top 3 moments in a show that made you ugly cry: Hmm. I don’t cry very much...I cried when Spock died in The Wrath of Khan, I might have cried when the Fellowship parted ways in The Return of the King, and I definitely cried at some point while watching the Clone Wars, although I can’t pin down a specific moment.
the earth, the sun, the moon or the stars: The Stars.
favorite kind of weather: Thunderstorms with heavy rain and plenty of lightning.
top 3 characters you kin with: Idk. Spock, I guess. Annabeth Chase (more when I was younger, but yeah), and Mr. Darcy maybe?
favorite medium of art: Books. Although I really like traditional paintings that utilize a lot of different textures.
introvert/extrovert/ambivert: Introvert.
a favorite literary quote: You want me to just choose one??? I don’t think I can do that... How about “The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you what to think but to give you something to think upon” from The Way of Kings (I think) by Brandon Sanderson
some of your favorite books: Mistborn, The Way of Kings, and the Alloy of Law all by Brandon Sanderson; Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde; and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
if you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?: Somewhere with a forest where the leaves change color in the fall and there’s a mountain nearby. Not in the city, but not too far either.
if you could live in any time in history when would it be?: Probably the Renaissance, which is likely a basic answer.
if you could play any instrument masterfully it would be: Well, I play the clarinet moderately well, but I would love to be able to play the cello masterfully.
if you have one, what mythological god or goddess do you feel a connection to: Hmmm. Once upon a time I would have answered Athena without hesitation, and I suppose that’s still somewhat true, but I’m not sure.
and lastly, favorite recent selfie in your camera roll:
Tumblr media
The screen protector in front of my selfie camera is broken, which is why there’s that weird lighting lol

I was tagged by @ivaleelovesmerlin; thank you (and I’m glad you enjoyed my fics back in the day!)
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 of your favorite authors!

9. “In the wake of the quarantine and the importance behind it, Laurent and Damen both understood why pride parades were cancelled across the country; that didn’t mean they weren’t disappointed.” [Livin’ In Winter (I Am Your Summer)]
10. “Kaito and Shinichi had made plans to attend Tokyo Rainbow Pride months in advance – before Valentine’s Day, even.” [Standing Here So Tall]
11. “Arthur’s fingers drummed frustratedly on his desk.” [The Start of an Age]

15. “Ezra had thought that he was alone in the shop, and had actually been debating closing for lunch early, when he heard the clatter of falling books from a shelf located in the back of the shop.” [Sweeter than Fiction]
16. “It was two days before Christmas, and Barry was staying late at the precinct trying to finish as much work as possible.” [On My Way to Believing (In You)]
17. “The first time Jim noticed Spock’s new and unexpected interest, they had just finished signing a treaty with the latest Starfleet-friendly population of a previously undiscovered planet.” [Spin a Dreidel (with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock!)]
18. “When Haru first tried to explain it to Rin, she slapped him and disappeared for a week.” [Change of Weather (Still Together When It Ends)]
19. “‘Any idea what Yuuri’s getting you for Christmas this year?’ Chris waggled his eyebrows at Victor through the computer screen.” [Andante, Andante]
20. “After his experience coming out to Hattori, telling the rest of his social circle was supposed to be much easier.” [Birthday Surprises]
The opening line to The Best Gifts Come From the Heart has always rung with so much fond exasperation to me; no matter how many times I read it, it always makes me smile - so it’s definitely my favorite.
As for tagging favorite authors...I know so few on Tumblr, I’m going to instead say anyone who read all the way down here can consider themselves tagged, if they’d like to do this :)

tagged by @devilsss-dyke ! thank u!
rules: pick five (5) shows, then answer the following questions and tag people.
my five shows:
doctor who
futurama
buffy the vampire slayer
star trek tos
the magpod i guess
who is your favorite character in #2?
turanga leela
who is your least favorite character in #1?
oh gosh. i mean, i’m not counting villains bc there’s complexities there re: appreciating a character vs liking them, etc., and i’m only thinking chars who are in more than one ep bc if i counted every char who was important in a motw ep then it would be h*tler without a question and that’s no fun. but honestly i think it’s the eleventh doctor lol. yeah every doctor counts as a separate char bc that’s how bad he was i cant reconcile him w the good ones
what is your favorite episode of #4?
the city on the edge of forever... but honorable mentions for amok time, the devil in the dark, who mourns for adonais, and the trouble with tribbles
what is your favorite season of #5?
season 4 but reluctantly. love that sweet sweet character depth and that satisfying narrative arc but the lack of tim is a big drawback. season 3 is a close second, for all the sweet sweet character depth and also a really good story, and also tim is there contributing to both of those things and i like that.
what is your favorite episode of #3?
doppelgangland ! honorable mentions nightmares, prophecy girl, band candy, the prom, fear itself, beer bad, hush, once more with feeling, tabula rasa, the body
what is your favorite episode of #5?
does martin’s patreon exclusive poetry count. if not then probably mmmmm 92, 104, 117, 154, 158, 159, 160. honorable mentions 39, 56, 58, 65, 74, 79, 81, 94, 102, 108, 114, 118, 119, 120, 134, 138, 151, 152. trust me that is as far as i could possibly narrow it down.
how long have you watched #1?
since 2011, on & off tho not continuously. i didnt watch it regularly or keep up with new eps from like 2014 to 2017
how did you become interested in #3?
i just talked abt this the other day actually! i was 17, it was my first semester of college, i was depressed and living away from my parents for the first time and very very alone, both emotionally and physically more often than not, so i thought why not take this time to watch this show that everyone’s been raving abt since i was born. at worst it’ll pass the time yk. and it did better than that!
who is your favorite actor in #4?
mr. nimoy z”l
which do you prefer, #1, #2, or #5?
right now it’s the magpod hands down. and in recent times dw has taken precedence. but futurama is my fave show of all time soz
which show have you seen more episodes of, #1 or #3?
there are 144 eps of buffy and that’s easy. and with the maths i just did, counting all davids specials as one ep each except the end of time is 2 eps, including xmas specials and the 50th anniversary, there are exactly 144 eps of dw thru the end of series 10. however, i also watched series 11, which brings the total to 155, so the answer is dw.
if you could be anyone from #4, who would you be?
mmmmmm i wanna say spock but thats more the answer to who i would be if i were a char from star trek, as opposed to if i could be anyone. if i could be anyone of my choice i would be james t. kirk. everyone loves him and he is pretty and charismatic and bold and i could use some of that
would a crossover between #3 and #4 work?
i would literally kill to see buffy and kirk bonding over heroic anecdotes and hair care and sparring while spock teaches willow how to control her emotions and bones puts xander in a medically induced coma. dream crossover
pair two characters in #1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?
rose tyler bill potts rose tyler bill potts rose tyler bill potts
overall, which show has the better storyline, #3 or #5?
oh def the magpod. possibly the finest crafted storyline of any media ive ever consumer. so intricate and complex but it all fits so perfectly and im in awe.
which show has better theme music, #2 or #4?
fuck you this is the hardest question ive ever been asked those are the two best theme songs of all time. i guess futurama but barrrreeeely
i’m tagging everyone!! have a blast!!!

So I had this idea. I had never watched The Original Series before, and I just now finished the second season after more than 6 months of watching, and I decided to use this opportunity of being someone who has never seen anything of season three to write my commentary on each individual episode and share my first reactions with all of you. This will be similar to other things I made like my episode appreciation posts, but for every single episode of season three, and later on also for all the episodes in the animated series and even the movies because I haven’t watched any of them either.
The order in which I’m watching the episodes is also the order in which they were originally first aired, in case any of you are wondering. I will be mostly writing my thoughts on the episode, parts I liked, and generally what was going through my head as I watched it. Feel free to ad your own comments and ideas to this posts if you like!
I think this will be really fun, and I hope you enjoy it!
(Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen the episode.)
TOS Season 3 Episode 1 “Spectre of the gun”
- I loved the “Vulcan, English, Russian, Swahili” part
- Finally the cowboy episode we all deserved
- OMG THEY GET TO HAVE OLD TIMEY GUNS
- The color palette of this episode is gorgeous, I absolutely love the contrast of the red sky with the old buildings and sand
- I see my man Scotty got a haircut
- Also, why did suddenly every Star Trek episode has to do with America and the United States???
- I actually really like the idea of putting the characters inside a historical event
- “Is this a dead man?” “Very dead”
- MY BOY CHEKOV IS GETTING SOME
- I love that while Chekov is kissing the girl he is so happy, and everyone around him is either proud of him or concerned
- Jim’s face 😂
- “The day is still young ensign”
- “We haven’t been born yet” I love how everyone thinks that are joking and the entire town thinks that
- Jim’s worried face is absolutely adorable!
- “Try bourbon, it was considered medicinal”
- Chekhov thinks he is so smooth
- Those accessories actually all look really good on them!
- We’re not even half way there and Bones is already getting triggered at Spock
- Spock explains how he will build a gas grenade and Jim looks at him like he is the entire world (which he basically is to him)
- Bones just casually bursts to the dentist’s place and starts grabbing chemicals without permission
- DAMMIT CHEKOV WHY YOU HAVE TO GO OUT AND DIE LIKE THAT
- Jim grieving for Chekov 😢
- Spock and Bones are at each other’s throats the whole episode, mostly Bones
- Jim defending Spock like the good boyfriend he is
- My favorite line in the whole episode was when Spock said “They forget I am half human” it just really hit me and it’s really nice to see that he is now accepting his human side
- “I’ll have it ready before Spock” freaking Hones and his competitiveness
- I love that Jim went running to get the cops
- Spock being a savage “perhaps the would’ve been if they had your ingenuity, Doctor”
- Scotty volunteering himself
- Jim’s face when Scotty tested the thing
- My poor boys are so confused
- “We are not gonna move” are suddenly moved by an unknown force to a different location
- Spock’s speech about reality is actually really great and I love it
- For some reason Bones is way more pissed at Spock than normally and has been attacking him the whole episode
- Spock and Scotty mind melding (WOWOWOWOWO)
- Spock and Bones mind melding (Its actually kind of hot)
- Spock and Jim mind melding (For some reason it feels softer and more intimate than with the others)
- The shots in this episode are actually really epic
- I always love when the characters are all badass
- Jim does his iconic move of throwing his whole body at the other person
- MAGICALLY CHEKOV IS FINE
- “Its... gone”
- Jim believes in peace and I adore it
- And now they can finally enter the planet, as originally planned
- This whole exchange- Spock: “May I ask a question? You need not answer it if it’s too personal” Jim: “I’m sure I’ll be able to give you an answer Mr Spock” (WITH THE BIGGEST HEART EYES I HAVE EVER SEEN)
- Spock assumes Jim wanted to kill the guy, Bones jumps to Jim’s defense, Jim tells Spock he is absolutely right (STILL WITH THE HEART EYES)
- Spock: “I wonder how humanity managed to survive” Jim: “We overcame our violent instincts “ (Jim and Bones share a knowing look and some smirks, Bones leaves them alone, Spock and Jim spend a few seconds looking longingly at each other, Spock leaves and Jim is left smiling)

AOS Trek! XD
answering on mobile so i pray the hell app doesn’t wreck my formatting asdfghjkl also please note that i barely touch the star trek fandom out of what u post + our conversations so
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
jim kirk <3 but mostly the version of him that i have in my head. like there’s so much potential with him in aos but (especially the first two movies) can’t seem to decide how to use any of it… i also wish they’d include a little bit more aos influence but i get why they don’t idk
he just occupies my thoughts so much <3
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
leonard ‘bones’ mccoy babeyyy
there’s just something about him that delights me. doctor. friend. sharing his drink on the shuttle. fifteen steps in the hangar. he is So Shaped !!!!
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
uhura ofc, i feel like she doesn’t get nearly the love that she deserves & also let’s be honest with ourselves. spuhura is not a bad ship!! they are very sweet!!
there’s lots to complain about in ID but the fact that jim brought her Q’onoS bc she spoke klingon and then she had to fight to speak to the klingons?? literally let her do her job. when will canon put respect on nyota uhura’s name 😤
also carol tho. girl was just trying to do the right thing
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
hmm. this one is the hardest to answer bc like, instinct says spock bc i feel like he is often misunderstood?? like he’s so funny and sweet & i think that’s often overlooked?? idk how to word it
but also i look at jaylah and feel like the phrase ‘poor little meow meow’ fits her feral vibes so well asgahaj
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
also jim <3 sorry bucko there’s just so many ways that i can do this to you & it’s very entertaining for me personally
but also by hurting jim i get to hurt literally every other character so it’s a win/win (how’s that, mr ‘i don’t believe in no win scenarios’)
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
admiral marcus <3
aside from everything else he’s just an idiot. the only good that cumberbatch’s khan did was exploding that man’s head with his hands. thank u for your service sir

TOS Tag Game
I was tagged by @burning--amber . This game is one I will definitely get way too far into. Tag me in all the questions lol 😉😁
1. Which is the most defining moment for Spock and Jim as couple, in your opinion? One which left you most shaken?
I mean, I could go with Amok Time (which tbh did leave me shaken), but I’m gonna go with Turnabout Intruder. I know it’s the last episode of the third season and there are soooooo many wonderful Spirk moments before that, but that episode was like the last hurrah, the final sendoff onto the ship of my OTP. It was so full of Jim and Spock goodies, and it even had great crew interactions/scenes too. It also had one of my favorite lines: “You are closer to the captain than anyone in the universe. You know his thoughts. What does your telepathic mind tell you now?” Like JFC, what a freaking statement.
2. Which alien race deserved more? What do you think could have been improved upon?
I really want to know more about how the Tellarites and Andorians all got together in the Federation with the humans and Vulcans. In Journey to Babel, it is obvious they don’t all get along well, but they had to have done so to make the Federation (and for the Federation to continue). I know it’s addressed in ST:ENT for an episode, but really delving into the Tellarite and Andorian races would be awesome.
3. What is the most disappointing thing about TOS for you?
Nothing’s perfect, but anytime casual sexism/misogyny or any of the other issues makes it in, it’s always a little disappointing. And of course, Spirk not being text, instead of just overwhelming subtext.
4. Who gets the Mr/Miss.Congeniality award if you were the judge?
Probably Uhura. She is sweet and kind and yet, will put you in your place when needed, but not from a mean-spirited place. As with all the characters, she has a few cringe-y moments, but overall, she wins in my book.
5. Which section of Enterprise are you most curious to see which was never filmed?
It’s probably a tie between the shared bathrooms (I mean, lbr) and the full observation decks. Those both have so much potential for so many things, but especially for my writer’s brain. ;)
And here are my 5 questions:
1. In your opinion, which main crew character was the least utilized, and had greater potential than they were given?
2. Which episode is the kookiest/weirdest?
3. If you could make one change to the show, what would it be? (bigger budget, more aliens etc?)
4. Was/Is there an episode that made a personal impact on you? Which one and why?
5. What piece of TOS technology is your favorite?
And as always, no pressure, but I’ll tag: @james-tiberius-perfect-face , @zjofierose , @itreallyisthelittlethings , @captain-raven-knight , and anyone else who wants to do the thing. Please tag me back so I can see your answers!

TOS Tag Game
I was tagged by @gimmemorespirk awhile ago, so I’m finally doing it! Thanks :)
1. What’s your favorite line to quote from TOS?
“I’m a doctor, not a ___!”
2. What is your favorite TOS alien race?
Most of my favorite alien races don’t show up until later, but I do like the Orions.
3. Which episode speaks to you the most and why?
I’m gonna be a basic bitch and say Amok Time. Beside the obvious K/S wonderfulness, I just love the idea of Spock’s ~feelings for Kirk literally overriding his biology. Gay love can pierce through the veil of death. True love saves the day!
4. What are your top 3 Spirk-y moments in TOS?
“Dig it in there, Mr. Spock.”
Spock’s face when he realized Kirk was alive
Kirk grabbing Spock’s boob
5. What do you feel are TOS’ best qualities? What are its worst?
I think its best quality is it’s... I guess its enduring hopefulness? I feel like even when things are bleak or they’re covering heavy topics, there’s a sense that things will be better in the future, because this future is already better than before. Its worst quality is the color palette. I just cannot lol
My questions:
1. When did you first watch TOS?
2. Mirror Verse, yes or no?
3. What is your favorite uniform/outfit?
4. What position would you want to have in the crew?
5. If you had to be dropped in an episode, which would it be?
Tagging: @zjofierose, @queerandhopeful, @annaknitsspock, and @lillisaurusrex if you wanna!
