I swear it was just last weekend when I thought "I haven't seen any Vox Machina on my dash in ages! Could it be that my fave mutual has moved on from Percy de Rolo?"

The answer today, fortunately, is a definite NO. All is well in the world.

The honest answer is that it’s impossible to find content 🥲 tumblr doesn’t bring it up when you search on the tag and I’ve already reblogged most of the newer stuff that does show, and many of the old artists deleted their blogs or the posts themselves.

I happened across both an old artist and a tag searching method that worked really well yesterday, hence the wild amount of content. And I always reblog this stuff immediately because I am always deeply afraid they’ll see me reblogging, remember those posts exist, and then decide to delete them or something. Or I just won’t be able to find them again. So I go on a spree, because as long as I reblog it, I’ll always have it.

So…. Yeah. No. Still 100% obsessed with my boy Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III 😂 Fave singular character ever. Delicious in every ship.

Crowley is Neige’s Father Theory (+ actual Neige backstory speculation)

You know, I was planning to make this an April Fools theory. I remember finding this headcanon about a year ago, and I’ve always thought it was a funny and cute headcanon to think about.

BUT THEN my hubby @snakevsnis utterly insulted my dignity and pride (kindly said the theory was my most outlandish yet) and I’ve decided to take this seriously. Not playing games anymore, I will collect every bit of flimsy evidence for this ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

This all started out when I saw a closeup of Neige’s eyes to be honest haha 🤣🤣🤣 Why do they look like that?! What’s with that odd glow? All the characters eyes, especially in card art, are quite striking. But I’ve noticed that Fae eyes in particular have a tendency for a stronger glow or just overall more detailed eyes.

But anyway: dark hair, pale skin (this can apply to half the cast but SHH let me be annoying ahxhdbs) If you want to consider Disney’s Snow White, she has “lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, and skin white as snow”, which we can keep in mind in terms of similarities🤪

People have always mentioned Crowley’s strange connections to Pomefiore and the Evil Queen- perhaps suggesting that he is twisted from the Evil Queen’s crow. Perhaps this, OR THIS IS ALL ACTUALLY A CONNECTION TO NEIGE.

The courtyard apple trees, the mirrors, the wishing well. Aside from the mirrors, all of these feel very reminiscent of Snow White, NOT the Evil Queen. The wishing well was indeed part of the Evil Queen’s castle, but it is Snow White who sings to it to make her wish. Crowley is very protective of the apple trees as well, and seems to honor them greatly. Neige’s first introduction through the commercial LITERALLY has the apple trees in the background as well!!

We also cannot forget his stupid vacation outfit (affectionate), which depicts a crow resting on an apple, and the background is riddled with flowers that look suspiciously like the ones from Snow White’s grave. And now with this uniquely yellow fit that no one expected Crowley to wear, Crowley technically shares the same exact color scheme that Neige (and this Snow White) does: yellow, blue, and red. In his vacation outfit, Crowley even ditches black as his main color and wears white instead.

Because what’s interesting about the Evil Queen’s crow is that the crow does not play a prominent role like Maleficent’s Diablo does. In fact, the crow almost seems afraid of the Evil Queen’s plans, shying away from the apple and afraid of her wicked transformations. In Twisted Wonderland terms, couldn’t that partially make Crowley more sympathetic towards Neige?

I also think it’s funny that Neige probably has the closest reference to a Disney character name, because “Neige” means Snow, and “Blanche” means White in French.His name literally translates to Snow White, and OF COURSE Crowley would name a child so directly after one of these historical figures 😭😭😭

And here’s where my theory gets even more crackish AJDNHDE, but when Crowley transforms into a ghost in the prologue, he notable has the cape of the ghosts in the Dwarfs Mine. The Dwarfs Mine we visited in the prologue is NOT the actual one used in Snow White- instead being a very convincing replica in honor to the Fairest Queen. But even so, there is a cottage that’s exactly the same as the dwarves cottage in Snow White. The ghosts from the prologue say that Ace, Deuce, and Yuu are the first visitors in “ten years.”

Ten years? Neige is around 17 or 18 years old, and his vague backstory heavily implies he’s been abandoned from his birth parents since a young age. So what if- hear me out- Neige for some reason was left behind in the Dwarfs Mine area when he was around 6 or 7 years old, entrusted to the ghosts before he met with his RSA dwarves?!

But let’s also take an actually serious look in Neige’s backstory. Neige’s backstory is shockingly vague, despite being the rival for Vil in Book 5. Book 6 seems to imply that Rook and Vil know more about what Neige went through, but it’s strangely cut off.

Neige has apparently been living with the dwarves and taking care of themselves on their own since a young age. We don’t know yet how dwarves age in Twisted Wonderland- Yuu remarks that they resemble Fae because of their pointed ears, and they may indeed be a type of a Fae. But even if they had the lifespan of Fae like Lilia, the dwarves are also school-age kids. And considering the lack of knowledge regarding Fae in TWST society in general, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were discriminatory laws preventing the dwarves being considered actual adults even if they were far older. The VDC competition shows how all the human audiences consider the dwarves to be cute children- likely even elementary-aged children.

I feel like this further validates the idea that Neige and the dwarves actually lived in the abandoned cottage in the Dwarves Mine- since it was a completely abandoned area, they were able to take the space without worrying over their young ages. The cottage looked abandoned in both Vargas Camp and the prologue because Neige and the dwarves are currently living at RSA. Additionally, in the Book 5 trailer, there were interesting shots of Neige and the dwarves at a bridge, a bench, and a forest. It felt overall very reminiscent of the cottage we see at the Dwarves Mine, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Neige and his friends actually occupied this space before

But with this in mind, how DID Neige secure a filming job or even attend the same middle school as Neige if he had no parental guardians or adult assistance in the first place? Again, I highly doubt that humans would ever seriously consider the dwarves to be Neige’s guardian on the small chance they’re older than Neige, for the same discriminatory implications that I mentioned above.

If Crowley was Neige’s father, I’m sure he managed to pull some strings in the background even if Neige was left behind for some unknown reason. Much like Diaval in the live-action Maleficent, Neige was essentially the Aurora that Crowley was taking care of from afar. Going back to Crowley’s vacation outfit, the crow resting on the apple reminds me a lot of Diaval in his bird form looking over Aurora in her cradle. I’m sure Neige has strong magic power of his own, but I find it interesting that he ended up at RSA despite most of his focus growing up was between his job and chores at home. Perhaps Crowley couldn’t get him into NRC, but did put in a good word for him with Ambrose and eased the application process for Neige

I also feel like Neige would indeed have stronger magic BECAUSE he’d be half-Fae like Sebek. His glowing eyes is the only physical indicator of his Fae heritage, but he also has the magic to boost.

And the most unserious note to wrap up this crack theory, they even have a similar taste in shoes because what is this 😭😭😭

This is all to say that I um. May or may not have been working on a chaptered fic for a long while now based on this premise of Crowley being Neige’s father so 😭😭😭 yeah. Um. Look forward to or dread that 🤣🤣🤣

(I will steal your kitchen sink if anyone says this is more convincing from my also crack Malleus and Crowley theories PLEASE 🤣🤣🤣 /j)

Deity Qinghua x Human Mobei Jun (with a little Bingqiu)

“Help me rule and become a powerful king”

Qinghua looked at the fragile and battered human at his feet. He could hear the shallow breaths, could smell the pungent smell of his blood-soaked robes and see his broken bones; this human won’t last through the night. But in contrast to his body that welcomed death, his blue eyes held on in defiance. He had an unwavering will to live and within those eyes, this human regarded him as his lifeline.

“Okay.” Qinghua put the reverb on and said in his most cryptic voice, “a life for a life, the price to pay is steep, think, dear human if your heart’s desire--“

“I’ll do it.”

*scratch disk sound*

“??!” Qinghua was over the moon! How naive! Others who have summoned him were all stingy, they read the terms and conditions and haggled with him into submission. It was such a long process but this guy doesn’t even want to know what he’s trading?

“Are you sure you don’t want to go through the fine print?” Qinghua scratched his head. Sure he wanted the merits but this felt like a highway robbery, he wasn’t THAT cold-hearted.

“I am bleeding to death.” 😐

“OH RIGHT!!”

And thus, the little deity helped the mortal, Mobei Jun, regain his strength and conquer the throne. He taught him everything there is to know; about strategies in war and debate, diplomacy, about keeping his court in control and his subjects happy. With Qinghua by the ruler’s side, the northern kingdom experienced a golden age. 

The people lived in harmony, no famine nor corruption affected his rule. All was well; EXCEPT QINGHUA HIMSELF. This deity was worked like a dog doing administrative work. “Wuwuwu” he was a face-con swindled into forging a contract without a set expiration date. Rookie mistake but what was he supposed to do?! The beautiful man held his hand and told him to “help me rule” while on death’s door! Kyaaaa! It was romantic~

Anyway, it’s finished. All he had to do now was work himself to the bone until the man was satisfied, so he could earn his end of the bargain and finally unbind their contract. 

He was fine. 

It was okay. 

Until he remembered Shen Qingqiu, deity of fertility, would probably throw merits at him like spare change.

Qinghua clenched his fists and with newly-found determination thought what else the man needed.

☑️ Favorable public opinion

Wife? YES WIFE!!! Mobei Jun needed a spouse to make his rule absolute, not to mention his need for heirs! The little deity fiercely studied the art of romance and started collating information about possible spouses fit for a king. 

He started with small touches, he’d graze the back of his hands, then it turned to massaging his shoulders after long court sessions and now he helped the king don his robes daily. The man was so touch-averse and prickly at the start. Now he would even initiate h*nd h*lding even though he still looked stone-faced all the time. Ding! Success! Laozi is the best in the world!! ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Then, he started praising the man more. Communication is a two-way street, Qinghua had to lead by example.

“My King your hair crown looks good on you.”

“Dawang is wise! But this one suggests…”

“Mobei Jun is fierce yet just. Reliable and unparalleled by all!”

The taller man who was usually fair would turn an exquisite shade of pink under his declarations. Shang Qinghua thought it was cute seeing him squirm until the man learned how to counterattack. 

“Qinghua looks beautiful, but I’d like it if… you only wore this in front of me.”

“I trust your judgement the most.”

“Only ask and it shall be done.” 

Sometimes they’d whisper in each other’s ear as if they were the only ones in the room, and yes they’d playfully banter during official court sessions but that just means Mobei Jun can now communicate his needs better with his future wife! This was the most important agenda! 

The whole court: ???

Envoys bringing princesses to present: ???

The Mobei Clan: ???

Finally, this deity was soooo dedicated that he would dress up in MBJ’s colors and go on practice dates with him.  So what if he took hours to chose an outift that showed his best assets? And what could be done if they wanted run and hide in the royal gardens, giggling and sharing Mobei Jun’s hand-pulled noodles? 

It was all for training! Until Mobei Jun suddenly pulled out a ring and he started crying saying “yes!” until he was incoherent. He could have kept his professional air... except Mobei Jun’s tongue was in his mouth and the last of his garments were holding for dear life by the end of the night.

“You forget, this one is charitable and pure of heart. When I granted your wish I needed a life for a life.” SQH teased as he looked at his husband.

“Qinghua, baobei, I dedicate my life only to y—“ 

“Stop!!” SQH put his hand on the other’s mouth only to be met with kisses. He was suffering from too much success. This king turned out to be so  cringy affectionate. 

“Anyway, I wasn’t taking your life. I meant to take your first born.”

“Okay.”

“What?”

“You wanted my first born.” Mobei Jun touched his little wife’s stomach and looked at him with shining eyes, “We will do what Qinghua wants.”

And that’s when the little deity raised his white flag in earnest. He could never win against his husband.

It has been 3 months since Luo Binghe received a book of possible wives from Mobei Jun; a gift from his consort. Shen Qingqiu, deity of fertility, has been roaming the world with his new contractee in search of a suitable spouse, but none of them passed LBH’s screening.

02/01/202....3!? Devlog

Halloooooo everyone!

It's been a while since my last proper update here so I am going to be posting a bit of an update and recap and plans for 2023 post. ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

I think we all know my big accomplishment in 2022 was releasing Gilded Shadows and then updating the game with Quill's route. 🥳

I also fully drafted Reuben's route and did one heavy revision of it! I've gotten through my second revision up to about Chapter 9.

The un-coded word count of Gilded Shadows is 985,000 words. (For those of you who are new and haven't seen me explain this before - the "uncoded" word count is the word count in Scrivener. All the routes lose words when I code them. The coded word count in Renpy is somewhat smaller and Reuben's route isn't coded yet so I don't know how long the game will be once his route is in the game.)

Still. That's a lot of words! LoL

Gilded Shadows is still lumbering along like the behemoth that it is. When Reuben's route is fully revised and checked for typos, I'll move on to coding it and working on sprites.

And then my last route will be YUU! Yuu is going through a bit of re-planning and re-structuring at the moment but I am really looking forward to writing his route.

I do not have an ETA on release for either of these routes beyond "This year." It's impossible for me to predict how difficult the writing will be. Reuben's route has been really tricky to write just because the plot is sort of crime...thriller? ISH? And I've had to do a lot of editing to smooth out how things flow. That kind of thing is difficult to predict until you've actually started writing.

ANYWAY. Throughout the year I've written a few small things that will eventually go in the lore book and taken some notes on other things I want to include. ☆*: .｡. o(≧▽≦)o .｡.:*☆

But I won't pretend 90% of my energy hasn't gone to just developing this game and getting it out there.

I have done some work and planning on next projects though. On my so called "Late Night Projects" (IE stuff I work on late at night or on weekends and my spare time). All these projects are things I hope to complete after Gilded Shadows is complete.

Some of them are experimental (trying out new features, new release styles, new game structures, etc) and some of them are stories I've had saved on my hard drive for years and just finally want to finish.

I'm really excited to eventually explore my space guilds and steampunk worlds and dark fantasy worlds and all the other ideas I have. I may have to work on these projects until I'm 90....but I am DETERMINED. 💪

Through 2023, I want to finish Gilded Shadows and all Gilded Shadows content (lore book, art book, KS rewards, etc). And then start to work on my next project!

So I hope you all stick with me - through this year and (hopefully) many years of game-making to come!

wrapping up 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣2️⃣‼

this year was wild - since the start of the pandemic i've lost joy in drawing, and it's taken quite a while, but i'm starting to have fun when i draw again. like i've said before, it's a tradition of mine to do these art summaries since i was in high school, i love doing them even if the year isn't fruitful. more below the cut !!

i didn't draw a lot this year due to.. life obligations... work (inc. commissions), anime north, online shop. some months i only had 1 drawing 🤦‍♀️..... and therefore i don't think i achieved a lot of my goals from 2021. there also aren't a lot of full illustrations, just a lot of busts hahaha. i spent a lot of free time away from the computer - sometimes u need hobbies other than drawing u kno??

this is what i wrote:

"in 2022 I want to go back to basics more and focus on things like depicting fabric & drapery, detail, anatomy & structure, expression & body language. I think a lot of my work lends itself to the “boring” side so I want to improve on conveying mood and a statement with my art. I’m not good at portraying expression or making something like. “visceral”. but I’ll do my best (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و"

i opted to keep a lot of my few drawings just for myself/among friends, so that i wouldn't focus on the Posting aspect of making art (bc this is what really hurt me in 2020-2021), and to just focus on the process and having Fun.

i want to continue pursuing happiness in my art, and to not ignore the stories i've always wanted to tell with my characters, about topics that are really important to me. this looked really short on twit but it looks quite long enough on tumblr hahaha - so thank you everyone !! from the bottom of my heart !! (my cold black heart)

I originally finished this in 2021 but had to rush the environment for the art swap's time constraints. Took a while to have the energy and motivation to bring it all the way to a completion level I knew I could achieve! ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

WIPs and process explanation under the cut!

Super loose sketch to get the general idea of how I want to compose the piece. I then clearly block out and label large areas to keep the composition clear as I continue. Once the general environment is figured out, I redraw the figure using reference material, keeping it loose - I make sure major points of interest (like the face, the tail, etc.) have more information for the lining process.

Up until the lining stages, I was really invested in incorporating weeping willow trees; I dropped them from the illustration because I wasn't feeling them. Too line-dense for what I was going for, made the piece way too unbalanced, etc.

Coloring!! My coloring process for lined illustrations starts by establishing a base with either a layer mask or (in this case) an alpha-locked layer. Then each section of the figure is painted with its base/local color and rendered out appropriately.

On the left, the original piece I presented for the swap (completion date: 9/23/21)! On the right, the updated background I finished on 9/18/22.

which oc do you think has affected you the most as youve grown with them?

Idk, it’s that I never really grew with any of them but rather that the amount of them did. They’ve all been pretty stationary and more like "one-offs I kept using for a while“. Current main gang living for more than 2y and having actual thought put into it, let alone attempts at development, is an absolute anomaly, historically speaking.

Anyways, if I have to choose,..

Depending on what qualifies as "affecting“, an art challenge I drew Mage basically for got the whole "actually being not-afraid enough to post about ocs online“ thing started, if that counts? It made quite the effect, after all it’s why we’re both here now! :3

And if not…then ig, Deniz? Ik he’s got the least out of the main 5, but it’s rather about clawing to get the few things he does have. But the main kicker was when I debated on if I wanted to shelf him for being too boring and little to the rest, looked at the few things that made him up, and realized, well crap. That’s basically me. A very glorified and glittery version, but still. So since then, trying to Make Him Work and refusing to drop him has kiiinda become a promise to myself? Cuz like, if I can’t keep the character, what’s that reflecting bout how I see myself, yknow? So, if I drop Deniz from the group it’ll be because I moved on from the whole group! ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Also setting-wise his thing is being an NPC who went along for the ride, which is quite the contrast from "op magic person 1 + 2“, "most casually capable dude ever“, and "literally the hero of the story“. Or actual deities and cryptic monsters with chibi faces.

Deniz doesn’t have much lore going on and instead got his focus on all the inner character stuff instead! So it’s been quite a nice exercise trying to write that for an exchange, and it helped in building the others better too and understanding all the connection stuff. Skill growth! Woo!

let’s jump in! this entry doesn’t cover that much of the main story and kinda has various here and there reactions. lots to love in terms of environment and characterization *(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭*

yanqing!!! i’m keeping an eye on him because he was fu hua’s disciple in the seven swords vn! his outfit and animations are really cool too! we love xianxia style sword riding

i kept trying to take screenshots of the background because it’s really lovely! the vibes are immaculate... also i didn’t expect fu xuan to be power hungry 😂 

ok i apologize if i’m misremembering the dialogue since it’s been a while since i took these screenshots, but i really love the talk here about how unique the sky is and the burden that the alternative, an endless pitch black sky, would bring on those who live long. the views are stunning in the herta space station but yeah maybe not for 400 years... 😂

overall i just really enjoy this quirk of xianzhou luofu locals, it makes all the npc dialogue really interesting! i love worldbuilding like this

•he's also happy to carry the conversation if needed, monologuing to you about his day and whatever missions shigaraki sent him on, occasionally asking you open ended questions in case you feel like pitching in.

•dabi definitely loves horror films so he'll take it as a challenge when you reveal to him that you like them too - he wants to watch all of the both of your favourites together.

•games aren't really his thing, but he won't mind letting you snuggle against him while you play and he does his own quiet activity, or more likely, naps.

•he's a bit hesitant on physical touch at first, but once he gets comfortable enough he'll always have an arm around you casually, though he'll deny it if you bring it up (he's just flustered).

(*^▽^*) mmmmm im thinking about it but im not really knowledgeable about running/maintaining a shop. I would have to do more research...ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ Merch-wise stickers and keychains may be the most likely...i’ve done shirt orders before and its really a numbers game. i’ll need to find a manufacturer that doesn’t force bulk orders and such. A booklet (digital/physical) of old comics (remastered/colored) and new content is something im thinking of doing if i ever make a shop.... I’ll have to see who’s interested!

The Willamette Valley Dream Survey was the original inspiration for WVDC! It's what gave me the idea in the first place 😁 I remember seeing those flyers around Portland, and it was so cool! They became an urban legend that I was really fascinated with for a long time 🙏 So that's how I came up with the concept for WVDC ✨
