me, internally: Sara by Bob Dylan is one of the most romantic and haunting love songs I've ever heard. he never says it once in the song, but you can just tell from the sound of it that the relationship is ending and that this isn't a made up character or persona, this is an autobiographical song. and then when you google it and find out that Sara Dylan was was Bob Dylan's wife and they had separated but he invited her to the studio for the recording of the song and told her "this one's for you" before starting to play the song as she watched and listened from the other side of the glass and--
i wonder if the guitars in bigger than the whole sky are a subtle reference to dear john or just speak now as a whole and if they are that just makes it even sadder
I think it's an intentional reference to dear john. Have you played them back to back yet? Dear john ends with that same "out to sea" feeling that BTTWS begins with!!! And it sounds like it's the same melody of dear john in the chorus, if that makes sense?
I agree, it's fucking heartbreaking and empowering all at once.
this is your daily reminder that the song age of adz off the album age of adz (2010) by @s-u-f-j-a-n-s-t-e-v-e-n-s (hi sufjan big fan) is the greatest song ever made
