can you tell me more about some of your head cannons/ideas for Techno Branch?

Sure!

He starts off the most 'yeah things won't be any different here' of all the adoption AUs. Everything's just one big party and he can't stand it. He locks himself in his room and hides from the noise.

Synth initially tries very hard to befriend Branch but in a way similar to how they met in Trollstopia, meaning doing activities that Branch very clearly doesn't like. Synth seems to have similar issues to Poppy of just not getting when something isn't working, but unlike her when someone spells out an issue (Dante in Mini Mini Golf) he realizes pretty quickly and feels remorse. I imagine Synth is a bit like Branch in that he has trouble reading people, however he's still very outgoing.

Synth didn't give Branch the chance to fully tell him he hated all music, so Synth set off to find the perfect playlist for Branch. When that resulted in Branch blowing up at Synth, Synth went to Trollex and was beyond devastated that he messed up so much. He then attempted to bond with Branch again, this time Branch's way.

After that Synth became Branch's first and best friend in Techno Reef. The two can be polar opposites at times, but once Branch comes around to Techno music, the two are rave buddies.

Branch and Synth when they get older often go off to explore and get into mischief. Branch likes learning about the ocean and Synth likes finding things that have been lost in the ocean from land trolls/giants. Sometimes they get carried away and Trollex is the one to have to save their butts.

"What did I say about the kelp forests?" "Not to go in them." "And what did you do?" "Go in them." "And what do you have to say for yourselves?" "We're sorry, King Trollex." "I'm just glad you're safe."

Branch and Laguna bond a lot over having issues with people and not fitting the 'mold' of a classic raver. When Laguna feels like tagging along to raves, Branch switches between hanging out with Synth on the dance floor and hiding away with Laguna reading a book and recharging his battery. He becomes a bit more of an ambivert in this AU, so he can go full rave and then he goes home and crashes.

Ok So the way the narrative in bg3 treats Gale is really weird right? like it's not just me?

Like to start gale was 100% groomed but till I got pretty far in my run with him I was like um where's the evidence like I don't think your wrong but everyone else is VERY vocal about their abuses and when they’re not like with Shadowheart there practically shoving you into realizing that she was abused. With Gale you learned he met Mystra as a kid, which before I knew that she used to be a human I was more like ok well sometimes that happens with immortals doesn't mean it was like for sure weird. Then Minsc has that one line and gales behavior / a couple other things he says heavily imply it to the point where it seems like it's meant to be cannon but I'm not convinced all the writers were on board with that. Again, even though wyll gets like no time, it's explicit that his father had unreasonable expectations on him that lead him to hurt himself and by act one it's clear Shadowheart has been groomed also Lae'zel for that matter but the narrative is weirdly uninterested in Gale’s trauma.

The narrative is really mean to him and while I find it a bit funny to poke fun at the wizard, the mean options are very harsh and the nice options are very mid. Like when you learn about the orb you can have the omg you're a monster moment which isn't inherently unique but the framing at the end of act one is very keen on the “well gale did this to himself” because he's an arrogant wizard. Which like he did by far have the most agency out if all the characters, I think he was the only one not literally owned, which saying out loud is like wow, but later he admits he wanted to be basically respected by Mystra but even in the framing of it he's all “of course I regret what I did to her” I'm sorry what? like at no point does he seem A: a bit convinced Mystra is a bad person and not just a bitchy partner and B: that he didn’t deserve to have a bomb left in his chest. 

The way, as far as I know, every good ending with gale requires Mystra to fix the bomb in his chest. Unless i'm missing something he NEEDS the help of his abuser in the end of the game and that'd just um wow a choice. 

I find it extra weird how people don't seem bothered by these (to me) seeming inconsistencies just blows my mind cuz compared to both the other boys his overarching moral values are all over the place. There’s a case to be made that he's the most fluid of the origin characters, like he's very neutral (and before people ask he isn't really for or against evil unless it's like literal genocide he likes people being buddies but he’s not wyll he doesn’t feel the need to be the hero that saves everyone that's wyll. wyll’s the one who's good and happy to help people, please stop forgetting wyll exists guys.) But gale’s past feel just as intangible, for all the tidbits I have a hard time imagining the day in the life of young gale. I can vividly see literally all the other origin characters past selves in my mind but gale just feels like less.

Maybe this is just a me problem but it just all feels off to me.

Hmm… I’ve never really thought about what their home planet would be like. I guess I don’t have a concrete idea in mind just yet… but I can come up with a few interesting ones!

I don't know if anyone else has talked about it either. I’d first assume they live on some sorta heavily roboticized planet, or a very futuristic utopia.

I mostly think of Susie and Haltmann just forever traveling space, but i do like the idea of them actually getting to have a normal life for a lil while when Susie was still young (First time I've drawn Max Proffit lmao)

Maybe their species all live on Wall-E esc star cruisers after some catastrophic event- or are just scattered across different planets and stars after they used up all their planets resources.

OR it could literally be just Haltmann and Susie that are the scientific & sci-fi ones of their kind, since they were a Robotics company first, right? Doesn’t mean everyone else would be the same! The rest of their planet could be like any other kirby world with a variety of futuristic elements and magical ones. I wish we could get some more info on them now, just to help push me in one direction. I’ll be thinking about that a lot more now xD

As for Puffe- There’s a couple little things I can think of. Admittedly I haven't thought a lot about her past aside from her adult life, so I just came up with this now (+ her new design helps fortify her personality)

She was a bit of a bully as a kid, but as time went on she would lose her friends one by one and struggle to make new connections after that. She’s always been loud mouthed, passive aggressive, always getting into fights, and it'd only escalate through her teens. It’s the only thing that really gets her attention from others.

Fast forward to now as an adult, she’s pretty lonely, with little motivation and not really sure what she wants out of life. Her young personality traits are still carried over, but now as a sad recluse. She bottles it up a lot and only gets verbal when in confrontation or challenged.

She ends up applying and working for Susie after the events of Robobot. Traveling space sounds like it could help her find some answers while getting paid 🤏 do some self-discovery, but that lonely journey continues, even with a few robot buddies. She starts to lose interest and falls into that state of 'tired employee who doesn't want to do their job'.

The only thing keeping her in the job is Susie, who is also trying to better herself from the events after all this time still.

Puffe really just needs some close friends and a little help to improve herself. And Susie is the start to all that!

Onward into High Hall!

I seem to recall being told that we'd have another chance to change up our party before the final fight, but I'm almost tempted not to. It feels like a nice bookend to have Lae'zel with Hector here at the end, just as she was at the beginning, especially given how their friendship has evolved over time.

There are a bunch of terrified civilians running everywhere. I particularly feel for this unfortunate one:

Who ran straight into the fire surface, set himself on fire, burned all the way through his six hit points, and died in front of us for no reason. :( Lots of dead Absolutists, mind flayers, and other civilians around here too.

Report from the climb up!

An absolutely bangin' and very dramatic soundtrack.

Some city watch folk who were pretty freaked out by Orpheus's presence but who Hector convinced to join them and help rather than fleeing.

A long-rest-in-a-box restoration chamber like we saw on the Nautiloid and in Moonrise.

Several dead ends which we have to get around by jumping around on pieces of shattered rampart.

More winged horrors. They're not very difficult to fight thankfully and everyone keeps one-hit-KO-ing them. The team is clearly so pumped full of adrenaline that they're even more of a battering ram than usual.

Fighting as Orpheus (he's attached to the party for now) is making me realize the benefits of going full worm; as a mind flayer he can use actions and bonus actions interchangeably, which is very cash money of him. His abilities, which are per turn with no other restrictions like spell slots that I can discern, are also insane:

Starting to think maybe the Emperor had a point. :P

Reaching the upper level courtyard of the Hall we start running into a lot more enemies.

Per @zenjestrr's advice, our current strategy is repeatedly summoning the more cannon-fodder-y Friendship Buff mobs to help clear the field; the main goal right now is to keep our primary party and our big heavy hitters (Aylin, Buddy, Yurgir, etc) in good shape for the final fight.

Once again the game manages to replicate a key D&D table experience - the feeling of knowing there's a big boss somewhere up ahead and trying to figure out how to ration your resources so you're not tapped out by the time you get there.

At least to begin with, the courtyard isn't too scary. As usual, Hector and Karlach are juggernauting away at the front line and Lae'zel is slotting in perfectly alongside them just like Minsc did. Team Single Target Damage is on the case.

Jaheira is holding down the backline and not looking as squishy as she used to which is also great. I'm wary of using her too much because most of her AOE and powerful stuff is all high level spells that I don't want to burn. I'm spending some of her actions on summoning our mobs of friends, which pleases me from an RP perspective because of the four of our team she is the hardened experienced fighter and I like the idea of her kind of directing the battle.

I'm probably playing a little TOO conservatively with my abilities here, actually, but I'd rather be too careful than not. I didn't use the long-rest-in-a-box before so there's also the possibility (I think) of running all the way back there and tapping it before we reach the brain, but I'm not sure.

It does amuse me that we keep getting gold and trash loot drops here because there is zero point to it anymore I think.

At first the courtyard seems like a bunch of small isolated fights, but as I have Hector start running towards an ogre near the center of the field, the WHOLE PLACE lights up in a battle with [counts rapidly] TWENTY-EIGHT ENEMIES, including the ogre, several mind flayers, and a spectator. FUCK.

Maybe time to start using those big spells after all, Jaheira.

This isn't quite as scary as it looks because we really are powerful as shit at this point. Hector continues to be completely terrifying, Karlach is too, Lae'zel has three attacks on a turn (or six with action surge), Jaheira can set out a Haste pool for everyone to run through, Orpheus's illithid skills are upsettingly good, and we have a LOT of friends who are (I hate to admit) expendable. But that bar full of enemies too big to fit on the screen is stressful.

Oh this is going to be very scary on Tactician though I bet.

One of Zevlor's Hellriders casts Flame Strike on a big crowd of goblins which I would be much more on board with if HECTOR WAS NOT DIRECTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM. Flashbacks to the last time Hector being in the middle of a fireball was considered an acceptable cost; it wasn't much fun then either. He does manage the save though so this time he takes no damage because he is badass, and the Flame Strike kills five enemies, so...worth, I guess.

This battlefield is also ENORMOUS and difficult to maneuver on, lots of high ground and curbs that mess up pathfinding.

So exciting to see Zevlor back in his element again, having found his paladin conviction once more.

One of the Hellriders did get dominated by a mind flayer, which led to this upsetting exchange:

Eventually victory! Gods, what a long fight. But we actually did quite well; everyone except Hector still has some of the temporary hitpoints we got from Ravengard, and we didn't lose any of our guest combatants. :D (And the one that got dominated is back safe. <3 )

now this Ben 10 AU that has four of Twst boys definitely cool and all. But how the four feel about Ripjaws, heck wonder how they feel a certain Octavinelle mafia(*cough*Azul and Tweels*) may or may not somehow seen Ripjaws too(this goes out to all four of them, Especially Riddle considering *COUGH*Floyd*COUGH*)

But now I'll go in depth! More like in depth on Idia's and Riddle's cases for ✨reasons anyone who follows me knows already✨

I'm gonna tackle first how each of our heroes feels about our fishy alien buddy, then the general octa reaction with the particularities last.

Riddle is skeptical of it at first, much how he is every time when he discovers a new alien form. He has a bit of dread, knowing a certain Octavinelle eel who would absolutely tease, but is pleasantly surprised to see that actually the 3 mafioso wannabes are actually intimidated by it. Ripjaws does become close to Riddle's favorites. It falls short mostly because of practicality issues when it doesn't involve a water medium, but hey... It's even better when he discovers that in half transformation, his jaw can extend and thus Riddle can still pretend to be an angler fish mer and scare the shit out of the octa trio. The 3 unfortunately don't know that Riddle is actually that scary and violent angler fish alien so yep... Fun times for the red shortie. :'3

Kalim does like to use ripjaws in combination with his unique magic. Ripjaws actually is a favorite of Jamil, for the sole purpose mentioned above. :'3

Epel is not that thrilled at first, mostly since his first encounter with ripjaws was a half transformation, where he looked like a sweet innocent lil mer. Later he discovered that he can make even WORSE chewing damage and is absolutely happy about ripjaws. Vil is just palm-facing in the bg, don't mind him. :'3

For Idia, he also has a first time half transformation. But because he was outside water at first, he didn't know that he was supposed to have a tail. It takes Ortho's scan to find out about it. Idia still keeps a neutral ground with ripjaws, although he has to make sure his hair doesn't get in the way underwater(personal headcannon that his hair gets longer when wet)

In general, at first, the octatrio are scared of ripjaws, mostly because it resembles an angler fish, which yeah... That one most likely is avoided by young mers for pretty understandable motives. So to see an alien resembling it, even worse, being absolutely able to easily tare down anything with those Jaws and claws and even able to walk on ground without any potion or hassle... Yep... These 3 were thinking it was pure nightmare fuel. :'3

Now for the special exceptions, they only apply for ships, so they aren't really cannon to the main plot of the Au itself. But ya Know... Gotta have my lil 'what if' s.

For Floyd, if he was a romantic interest, he would be like mentioned above, until he finds out that Riddle is the watch bearer. Then he calms down a bit, knowing that 'hey, it's goldfishie! Goldfishie doesn't harm me.'. At first, around Floyd, Riddle has to calm down enough to use the half transformation of ripjaws. Ya know, just to look a bit more human like and have Floyd not scared out of his mind about it. They are working on it... Slowly but it works.

Floyd defenetly teases Riddle about the other alien transformations instead. He thinks swamp fire and Heat-blast are the best fits for his lil angry goldfishie. And Riddle hates that he's actually right. Definitely Floyd takes a bit until he realises that no, this red shortie can't carry you princess style if not transformed in an alien that can lift heavy things. He also sometimes tries to tamper with the watch and make Riddle transform in other aliens just to see how wierd they could get. (his favorite would be Wildmutt and pesky dust) Overtime Riddle just gets used to it. :'3

Now for Idia's case, Azul does find out in book 6, therefore Idia has a field trip with him, explaining the various transformations and to please don't have a heart attack if one of the half transformations looks like Idia just tossed away his spine when using their abilities.

But when ripjaws is introduced, Azul clearly is less scared than the twins, for the sole motive that in octo form, he's gigantic (another personal headcannon) Therefore he wasn't that afraid of angler fishes as the twins were. Still a bit scared, but that fear dimmed down upon knowing that Idia was actually ripjaws. For other transformations, Azul is fond of Cannonball, for the sole purpose that when Idia tries to roll out and hold him to take away from the danger, is nice and snuggly inside.

He is... very rash, very combative, and speaks his mind openly... not sure he likes me all that much haha- He does like me, he was just grumpy about the name situation at the time! Now has a scar on his chest from a Raticate's Super Fang attack. I really want to punch that Neo Team Plasma grunt in the face.

Cannon the Magmar!! A MAGBY!! =D Sorry, still excited! Bold, very adventurous and has gotten himself knocked out... a few times because of it ha. He's getting better and better as we go! He's getting really close to evolving! I can feel it! And we're both excited!! =D HE EVOLVED!!!!!!!

Needle the Nidoking. Seemed docile at first, but now I'm not so sure... very jealous at everyone new joining in, to the point that I don't think he likes me giving new mons attention. He's gonna have to get over it if he want's to stay. Has a chunk missing from his ear from Winter... because he decided it would be a good idea to try and double kick her- Has chilled a bit with evolution, but is still combative with Winter.

Digimon the Porygon2! Kinda Naive, have to keep it off of Google and stuff because it keeps trying to look up things I do not want it to- a Translator! Its very nice to me other than that. Has told me that this is as far as it wants to evolve, which is fair!

Winter the Luxray. Also seemed docile at first- hm... well uh, she's very headstrong and combative with Needle, which... makes sense considering. Nice to me at least? Likes pulling pranks for some reason.

Travel buddies undercut!

Flar the Quilava! Papi gave her to me! A breeding reject that the original trainer didn't want. She's very bold.

Croc the Croconaw! Dad gave him to me! Another breeding reject, he can be rather naughty at times, but he cares a lot!

Kissy the Togetic! A kid of my Papi's Togekiss and Dad's Honchkrow! She's a bit odd looking but sweet! Can be kinda timid though.

Vile the Sneasel! A kid of my Papi's Ambipom and Dad's Weavile. She's very impish, loves to steal things when I'm not looking, getting her under control is something I struggle with quite a bit... ^^;

Dolly the Mareep! My first self caught pokemon!! Pretty she's modest but loves praise ^^

Choco Heart the Jangmo-o. Got sent to me by dad, he's really sweet, likes to cuddle... think he's Jolly. I can't use him in battle here sadly, but as soon as I can find a place to do so I will!

The Devil

I think everyone knows by now how things turned out at Worlds End, but just in case, I'll put spoilers under the cut.

I'm not sure how big a surprise it is, since he was the prime suspect all along, but Adam Cole revealed he was the Devil at the end of the PPV. His "henchmen" were the three Kingdom guys, along with Wardlow.

I feel like there were probably more henchmen than this running around in this storyline, but that's not a big deal. We've seen The Devil directing traffic during beatdowns and leaving his mask behind as a calling card, and it's hard to see Cole doing that with his broken foot, so it makes sense that this group would rely on proxies and intermediaries when necessary. They clearly cut a deal with Joe, so it's not hard to imagine them getting a guy to wear the mask for a few minutes to throw off suspicion. And wrestlers have been hiring themselves out as anonymous cannon fodder for decades. They probably got some of the Dark Order goons from 2019 to pitch in.

I found the reveal kind of strange, since it didn't seem like Cole got anything out of this whole ruse. Joe's the champ, his buddies got the ROH tag belts, but why go to all this trouble for that? Then it finally hit me that he may have been angling for a world title victory of his own, but he had to change his plans once the foot injury happened. After that, it became more about taking the title off MJF, since he couldn't get it for himself.

Why didn't he just let Jay White finish off Max? I dunno, fuck Jay, I guess. For whatever reason, Samoa Joe was his pick.

I suppose this really started after Wembly Stadium, when MJF beat Cole to retain the title. They hugged it out and everything, but that had to be the moment when the wheels started turning. Everything since then has been this long-term plot to wear Max down. The ROH tag title matches, the weird drama with Roderick Strong, Cole acting conflicted over whether or not to cut ties with Roddy, Cole convincing Max to do dumb shit like jumping out of the ring. All of it took a physical and emotional toll on Max until he couldn't hold onto the title.

I found the reveal anticlimactic, but the more I look at it, the more ridiculous the other suspects would have been.

Britt Baker. At first glance, this seems like a cool thing for her to do, but her sole motive would be some sort of jealousy over Max monopolizing all of her boyfriend's time, which could work except she's barely been on TV this whole time, and no one's ever brought up how she felt about the Max/Adam bromance. And how does being the Devil help her career? Fucking over MJF doesn't set up a big match for her, unless AEW's going to do intergender stuff.

Jack Perry. Again, this guy's been away for months, which means there's not a good way to introduce him as a suspect. Fans seemed to think his absence from TV made him more likely to be the Devil, because... it would be more surprising? Also, what's his motive? I think fans wanted this to tie in with his backstage fight with CM Punk, but... how?

Roderick Strong. This guy was already doing a psychological war against Max with his squad of goons. Why would he switch to a secret identity and do the same thing?

Wardlow. Again, this guy made no secret of his grudge with Max, so the bigger question was why he didn't just make his move a long time ago. Wardlow being part of the Devil's conspiracy makes a lot more sense than him being the Devil himself.

Hangman Page, Swerve, etc. These were all pretty big reaches, and I think they only threw these names out to make the point that Max has a long list of enemies, rivals, and challengers. But Swerve wouldn't waste his time on a secret identity. The dude filmed himself breaking into Hangman's house for crying out loud. Conversely, Hangman would never muster the creativity or gumption to come up with a plan like this. He would find the mask, think about putting it on, and then spend the next six months moping about the latest slump he's in.

In hindsight, it really couldn't be anyone but Adam Cole, although this whole reveal still begs the question of how they're going to proceed, when both guys are too injured to have a blowoff match. I guess Cole might be fully recovered by now? Maybe MJF isn't as badly hurt as everyone thinks? I mean, Cole will probably do some "why I did it" promo on Dynamite, but what's the difference? We know why he did it. MJF's a giant prick. Everyone was waiting for them to turn on each other and now it's happened.

The real question is: What does Cole do now? He's got his revenge, and I'm sure he'll get some big match with MJF eventually, but what's he do in the meantime? I guess if his foot's healed up he can chase some other title, but it seems kind of anticlimactic.

im one of those delusional people that thinks buddie will go cannon. there's obviously a huge possibility that I'm wrong, and if so 911 is still an amazing show (but I like adding in that bit of delusion) but I think there's lots of things that need to happen before we get there. and I think we're going to know it'll be canon long before anything happens between them.

I know, I know, it's so freaking obvious, but that's to us. but to the general heteronormative audience (I know I'm generalising here) they're both straight. sure hen is gay, but why would eddie be? he was married to a woman with a child. why would buck with his many relationships with women?

so I think first there definitely has to be one of them having some sort of exploration of their sexuality or mention of it into a main storyline. I don't think both of them need to, I think it's highly likely they might have one have a sexuality crisis after the fact so it isn't all at once, but again, highly likely I'm wrong

then, there's needs to be some sort of examination of their current relationship. what makes their dynamic different to that of hen and chims for example. (I think the most obvious route is the whole co-parenting thing) but you need everyone to suddenly see it all at once, all their history all together, because then you understand how much they mean to eachother, they can't just be 'best bros' or whatever.

I do think it's possible for it to happen this season. but things need to be said explicitly pretty soon. we're going to know it'll be canon long before anything happens between them. as much as I love the couch metaphor, not everyone has incredible gifsets to outline the whole thing before your eyes.

the showrunners obviously care about what they're making. they want the show to succeed. they want everyone that watches to appreciate what they're doing, and not feel run over by their relationship coming out of the blue. we aren't the average fan, and the average fan needs to understand what is happening.

i did not originally intend to show roxy's pool date with jo and camille but i will write it tomorrow after i get off work and post it asap! i've been writing the season one finale for literal weeks at this point and i'm starting to go crazy over it so itll be nice to get into a different little one shot for a bit. i'll post it in a reblog of this question so we can all find it :)

right now i will give you a little sneak peek about how EVERYONE feels about the roxy-dak mess because i'm generous like that, and i don't really get to show everyones feelings on it in the story bc we only get inside her head... there's a bit in chapter 13 where we see a little bit of how the guys feel about it, but i didn't want to make it a whole thing and then it kinda turned into a whole thing 🤷‍♀️

anyway: how my characters view love and roxy's relationship through some cannon events and my own personal beliefs

jo: takes absolutely no shit when it comes to love, we see this when kendall has his thing with lucy... she grew up listening to boy bands and has a standard for how men should treat her <3 plus i think she's been in one non-serious "we went on a few dates so i guess he's my boyfriend" relationship from back home so she has a little experience. she thinks dak isn't worth any more of her time after he stood her up but she is afraid to voice this to her bestie...

camille: is a hopeless romantic and would go nearly to the ends of the earth for the ones she loves. she's a "if it's meant to be, it's meant to be" kinda gal and at age 16 fully believes logan is the love of her life. i think he's her first partner! she wants roxy to be as in love as she is and thinks that, while shitty, the whole standing her up thing is just a bump in the road on their way to everlasting love

carlos: pre-established to have never been in a relationship but he's like a silly jock so i'm sure he's been on at least a few dates! he has older sisters in my story (because he feels like he was written by a woman (me. i'm that woman.)) so you know he knows the proper way to show a date a good time! he thought roxy looked so pretty on her first date and he just wants her to have a good time and be happy. if dak makes her happy, he's happy! and he was actually kind of okay with the stand up thing because they got to hang out and dance together <3

kendall: captain (?? i don't think i made this up... this is in the show right?) of the hockey team in a midwestern high school. he's had a few partners and i know his mother whooped his ass (metaphorically) into shape after she found out he goofed around too hard and hurt someone he went out with on accident... as for the roxy and dak affair, he may or may not have picked up on the fact one of his good buddies may or may not like her... he's not a fan but will not say anything bc he isn't in the business of telling her what to do (she will hit him with her songbook very hard)

logan: while a believer in his love science, he's yet to find a way to quantify how he feels about camille after the party in chapter 10 :) he dated a bit his first few years in high school (mostly double dates with james? i also think is a fact from the show), and has had a few non-serious partners but he's never felt this way about anyone else! in his love science-y world, he can tell that dak does not feel the same way about roxy as she feels about him. if he did, he would've come to the party. simple love science!

james: good lord! he has dated anyone who is someone at mountain aire high school and it's always been to elevate or retain his own social status. so when he's normally a flirt for fun, or because it makes his boring little small town feel less boring, it's always been a game to him. except somewhere along the way of flirting out of habit with his new friend, he might have started to actually mean some of the things he's said. he thinks dak's a douche for standing her up and he's trying to make that clear to her the only way he knows how: vague hints and comments here and there. another established james fact is he's never been dumped, so i imagine this brings up a little bit of fear of rejection in him as well. he has trouble voicing his own feelings as well, since he's always trying to come across as perfect.

Alright, time for some Off-Type Clears!  Because man, I do enjoy doing the F2P clears sometimes, but also I miss using some of my favorites that have been sidelined.

Vs. Hala Champion Iris has been on the bench for a long time in CS, and it's a shame.  5/5 grid when?  Anyway, I opted for C!Elesa who is the eternal best partner for her, and Variety Lorelei, whose offensive buffs perfectly complement Iris'.  Gotta get the Lorelei value in somehow to justify spending on the low-effort alt.  The main struggle here was Iris hitting crit on sync.  She missed it three times out of five runs.  THREE!  It's an 80%!  Anyway.  The other failure was my own fault, I got greedy with gauge and Iris couldn't queue up a move so we fell behind the sync requirement, and Hala's sync is Ice, so it dropped Elesa too.  The next round went better.  Iris still nukes for like infinity billion damage.  Slightly related, but I'm still considering giving her Defense Crush as a lucky skill.  I'm holding off only because I'm really, really hopeful that her grid expansion packs it.  It's like the only thing aside from Power Play and Aggravation I could see benefiting her.

Vs. Olivia My girl Caitlin is so good.  It turns out, the Lucian combo actually does work spectacularly.  His debuffs are perfectly aligned to this comp, with SC Jasmine buffing up special defense, and attack drops keeping her alive against a physical damage dealer.  Caitlin herself just trucks the center, ending on a big explosion.  I do let SC Jasmine take first sync, and we just happened to get the quad queue, so I don't know how well they'd take Olivia's sync.  Also, important note: you might think that, with speed buffs, Jasmine can use Flash Cannon here for guaranteed debuffs if needed.  That's the devil talking.  The gauge isn't that good, even at +6.  Also Absorb recoups a lost gauge which is far more ideal for Caitlin specifically.  Also yes I know this team is filled with redundancy but let me live.

Vs. Kahili I am pissed on Lusamine's behalf, which means now it's everyone's problem.  I opted to bring in Sabrina as the tank, because the condition was permanent field effects, and I figured hey, Sabrina sets Reflect, which boosts speed.  This is an ideal outcome that will in no way harm me.  Spoilers: it harmed me.  Sabrina is not a good physical tank.  Bianca has also finally bitten the bullet.  I gave her Head Start.  At this point, there's no reason not to anymore.  Also we were having legitimate trouble getting the clear without it, so like...I'm calling it an essential change.

Vs. Acerola Now that Zinnia is 3/5, I wanted to see how she did.  Turns out, pretty good.  I will say, this particular team is really nice.  Masked Royal has a lot of benefit with Brutal Swing, kicking off Calem's Buddy move a bit quicker and debuffing defense.  Zinnia herself is just hilarious.  I still can't get over the +3 to all stats condition getting immediately blasted by an AoE Snatch attack with a 70% chance to just flinch everyone.  The sickest part is her sync, which wasn't even full investment, hit for like 35k.  Comparable damage to Iris.  Like okay.  Sure.

Vs. Kukui My girls have languished.  I haven't run this team in a long time, and now they'll be brought out for the 12.5k meta.  And you may be wondering, how'd they do?  Well, it turns out that Lillie could two-shot the sides after Caitlin's sync.  So a double denial, which is hysterical.  Now, the first attempt failed.  Because I forgot, Cynthia's sync is physical, and I had physical damage reduction on so Lillie could hit as hard as possible.  So Cynthia's sync bounced off him for like 7k and then we just didn't recover from that.  His sync is a sure KO against Cynthia, even if you cap defense.  However on the second attempt, sync still happens to us because i still didn't take off physical damage reduction because I didn't leave the fight and hit retry and decided to just let Lillie sync. Turns out she could handle it.  Once again, Healthy Benefits 5 paying off.  And this all got to be with permanent field effects, which is great for H!Caitlin.  You basically just get everything.

Final Thoughts Alola was the last of the old school CS regions, before Sinnoh showed up with the insanity of Entry x2 skills and all that.  As a result, I feel like it's a good middle of the road region.  There's some tough stuff, but nothing outrageous.  This week in particular didn't feel too bad, nothing was all that unreasonable to handle.  But still, I had fun.  I miss using my favorites.  I've gotten too invested in F2P clears, I'm doing off-type for a while.

I never really think about it, but Sol Badguy is really smart! I’m still not entirely sure sure how smart he is though, like compared to everyone else. He built the OUTRAGE right?

I feel like he’s smarter than Ky? Ky knows how to do magic really good, but I don’t think he could build an OUTRAGE. I think Jack O’ is a little smarter than Sol, but she’s an artificial being with the transplanted soul of a scientist. I’m not sure if that affects the ratings.

Is there like…an official answer to how smart Sol is? Do you have any thoughts?

He did build the original Outrage, it's true, and then that was split apart into the 8 Sacred Treasures. The lightning one went to Ky for Thunderseal and the fire one for Sol's Fireseal sword that he had up until Xrd. Junkyard Dog, Sol's Xrd (and Vastedge....) sword, also has the Flashing Fang (the light element treasure) alongside Fireseal so that, after it was upgraded into the Outrage mk.II sword in Strive, it could do the giant laser cannon nonsense spell, Saint Oratorio. EDIT: Sorry, Junkyard Dog could do Saint Oratorio too but IIRC we don't see it until Sol does it with Outrage in Strive

Vastedge is frustrating as hell to find information on (even in Japanese UGH!!), but I'm pretty sure it covers Sol stealing Flashing Fang from the Conclave and then getting a little help from Izuna and his buddies to upgrade the Junkyard Dog sword. Vastedge probably has some lore in it that gives more of an idea for how smart Sol is too. I just don't have access to it.

Anyway, Sol did most of this almost entirely on his own. It's also implied that he built his motorcycle too, Fire-Wheel mk.II, and then at the end of Strive he's also building a rocket, presumably to go visit Asuka on the moon. Not to mention all the research he did on Gear cells to make them viable for the technology that lead to the actual Gear monsters, though he had help from Asuka and Aria on that. We also know that he's proficient with at least 1 programming language and whatever software he used to make that cute 3D flower hologram for Aria in that Xrd flashback. These aren't really up there with building a friggin rocket for sure lol but they're not easy things anyone could pick up and figure out in just a day either.

Sol's REALLY smart, definitely in the top 5 smartest GG characters, but I think he underplays it a lot because he doesn't like getting involved and if people realize exactly how smart he is, then they'll want his help for stuff more than they already do haha. He's also kind of lazy and seems to like taking shortcuts when he can too. There's a scene near the end of Overture where he needs to figure out how to decode this magic cube to re-open the portal from the Backyard back on to Earth and instead of crunching the numbers and doing it the right way, he just smashes it and somehow it works lmfao I think Sol would resort to concussive maintenance before other methods 9 times out of 10.

If Sol was a D&D character, he'd probably have really high intelligence but only an average wisdom stat, imo.

Ky is smart too, but the difference between the two is that Ky seems like the type who reads a book and then makes flashcards to help him remember the information in it. Whereas Sol either only reads the parts he needs to know or he only reads through it once and when he has to apply that knowledge to something, he guesses his way through it based on what he remembers. Apparently in Lightning the Argent, it covers how lightning magic is the most difficult to master and fire magic is implied to be the easiest, with how many characters can use it. I feel like that information supports the difference between Sol and Ky's ways of thinking. Sol had a LONG time to study and get good with machines too and Ky is only like ~30 in Strive. Given over 100 years to read manuals and experiment, Ky could probably build rockets and stuff too.

I don't really have much to add about how smart Jack-O' might be, she just doesn't have a lot of lore at the moment... I think she has a scene where she goes into depth about Backyard mechanics but, like you said, she's an artificial being with an extra consciousness inside her so that information was likely hardcoded into her. It would probably be a safe guess to assume she's smarter than the average human, but I don't have anything to point to that supports her having near-superhuman levels of intelligence like Asuka or Sol seem to have.

“You're a good man, Sam. This one's on me, though” Steve answered his friend and directed himself to Bucky. “Don't do anything stupid 'till I get back.”

“How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you” they both chuckle and hug. Bucky knows something is up with Steve, he knows him and he sees all the signs that something is making him nervous, unsettled. “Gonna miss you, Buddy.”

“It's gonna be okay, Buck” Steve assures his friend. Truth is, he is not sure it will. Steve’s been anxious, every since he saw her that day he couldn’t help but feel his heart ache. All he wanted was to go straight to her and hug her and never let go. He knows he has a decision to make, an important one in fact, but he can’t help but wonder the consequences that the deepest desires of his heart would cause in the timeline, and that itself makes him pray everything will work out as planned for once in his life. Steve goes over to the Quantum portal and activates the time-travel suit.

“How long is this gonna take?” Sam asks.

“For him? As long as he needs. For us? Five seconds… Ready, Cap? Alright. We'll meet you back here, okay?”

“I’ll see you in a minute” Steve tells his friends before he disappears on the platform.

“Steve!!”

“Steve, answer the coms! Are you seeing this??” Steve hears the voice screaming at his past version while you’re all fighting the Wakanda Battle. It’s you. God, he has missed you so much during the past 5 years. He almost cries knowing what is to happen in the near future to you. He can’t let it happen again.

Steve knows his past version is too far from where you where fighting many aliens all by yourself. He knows that what you where referring is a few alien ships arriving from the sky, and normally he would go directly to you but Thanos is about to show up in Wakanda and take all of his attention. Back then, he couldn’t have reached you on time to stop that alien from stabbing you seconds before half the universe is turned to dust. But now, damn him if he wouldn’t be there to take you out of the battle alive.

Steve knows he had to act quickly so that everyone would assume you just got dusted too. When people were to show up in 5 years and you didn’t… well he would worry about that later.

The soldier sees the aliens trapping you in the middle of them and they start to close the circle, leaving you with less and less space to defend yourself from their attacks. You were losing. He could see your movements slower and you were clearly tired. Your breath was heavy and you had injuries on your arms and torso. Steve decides now is a time as good as any to get you out of here. He steps out of his hiding place and runs to you.

With Steve there you both manage to get the aliens down. You seemed to be ready to thank him when the atmosphere changes. What was before a chaotic battle noise, now was silence. That was it, Thanos had snapped his fingers, and Steves time gap to act was getting smaller. He grabbed your hand and dragged you to where he was waiting before. The confusion was evident in your face but he didn’t have the luxury to explain it to you in the moment, so he just asks you to trust him and you both wait until it’s safe to leave without people seeing you or him.

Steve could hear the raindrops outside while he prepared a tea for you. He looked out of the kitchen window and spoted you sitting in a small couch that you both decided to put on the front porch of your house. You were wearing his big sweatshirt and had a blanket covering your legs, the perfect description of cozy if someone ever asks Steve.

The weather was chilly but Steve couldn’t feel any happier. He had you, he finally had you in his arms after spending so long without hearing your voice or feeling your touch. He spent 5 years missing your presence, your quirks and your habits. He felt so empty, like a man out of time again. He was out of time with you, except that now he wasn’t.

As soon as you both had been able to leave Wakanda without being caught, he told you what had happened. It wasn’t as if you hadn’t realised his face seemed more tired and older than hours ago, when you had last seen his past self. To you it was obvious when you looked at him, at his eyes that carried the weight of the world, that he was there for a reason. It was clear to you that you wouldn’t had made it out alive if he hadn’t interfered with the aliens and so you understood beforehand what he would tell you, but Steve still had to explain everything else, and he did.

The soldier cried a lot when he told you what life without you was like and it broke you heart to see such a strong man in such a fragile state. Steve then mentioned Stark’s plan of retirement, of moving out of town and starting a family maybe, and he said he wanted that with you, which you agreed.

And now you both lived in a simple house in front of a small lake, that had a lot of trees around which provided the most beautiful sight wether it is a sunny or a rainy day. The house was far away from the avengers compound, you both pretty much spend 5 years secluded without seeing your friends in order to not mess too much with the timeline. But there was one change that couldn’t be avoided and you as much as Steve knew that he would have to reveal in a couple of months, when the avengers were supposed to bring everyone back from the dust.

“How is my two favourite people in the world?” Steve chants from the door. He hands you the tea and hugs your side while you accommodate to his body.

“We’re good, the baby is sleeping I guess, he just stopped moving” you chuckle lightly as your hand goes to your belly to caress you 8 month bump. You feel Steve’s hand on your bump and you see him sporting the biggest grin.

“You sleeping there J?” He lowers his head and whispers to the baby, receiving no kicks back.

“Yeah, definitely sleeping. Probably tired from the party that he threw this morning on my belly. I swear I couldn’t sleep 3 hours straight” you yawn tiredly.

“One more month and he’ll be here with us, honey” you cuddle closer to him as you drink your tea. One more month and your baby James will be here. Just one more month and you both are gonna be the happiest ever.

“And returning in, five, four, three, two, one–“ Bruce activates the Quantum platform, but nothing happens.

“Where is he?” Sam asks nervously, wondering if something went wrong.

“I don't know. He blew right by his time stamp. He should be here.”

“Well, get him back.”

“I'm trying.”

“Get him the hell back!”

“I said, I'm trying!

“Sam...” Bucky calls, he’s looking at a man sitting in a log. They both walk closer to see Steve, a few years older, wearing normal clothes but caring a round bag with him.

Sams the first one to approach. “So did something go wrong, or did something go right? You look older, no offence”

“Well, after I put the stones back, I thought, maybe I'll try some of that life Tony was telling me to get.” Steve answers, he knew the past few months made an impact in his appearance, considering the baby wouldn’t let you or him sleep for too long. It’s almost laughable that the great Captain America was taken down by his baby son.

“And how'd that work out for you?”

“It is beautiful. And that’s why I can’t have this anymore” Steve hands the shield to Sam. “You’re the best man for the job, and I know you’ll make it proud… How does it feel?”

“Like it belongs to someone else.”

“It doesn’t.”

“You wanna tell me about her?” He asks seeing a wedding ring on his friends finger, and Steve smiles getting up to go back to you and your son.

“Eventually, but for now, I don't think I will.”

Garou and Suiko officially “met” in the OPM universe- I have always wanted to see them interact because they are the same age, they have possibly met before during their training years and most importantly because I just wanted to see Garou talk to a girl lol. Love at first sight is no longer a possibility for these two. In case they have met before in cannon, I guess they were never friends because Garou has always been standoffish, consequently never building a proper relationship with anyone.

Oh no, you mean when she saw him on tv in full over-the-top 'scary' performative mode like this?!

What a horribly inauthentic first impression of him for her to get! x'D (Considering they've never met/interacted at all in the webcomic yet.) Unlike Suiryu who can probably put two-and-two together (eventually maybe...if he and the helicopters stay tuned in to watch the whole thing unfold), Suiko has no other context or frame of reference to discern what's real or fake for Garou or know what's up. :'D For now (unless we get new info), there's no telling how she'll interpret or remember this first impression of him if they ever meet for real later.

I'm always up for Garou interacting + gaining more potential friends his age (since he admitted his kid self grew up essentially friendless, and by the time he entered Bang's dojo he was pretty much focused solely on getting stronger. So he had very little time to socialize.) His post-arc self provides a different opportunity, since he finally has time to slow down and perhaps meet more characters (for ex, he's already met & fought with wc Suiryu.) Suiko doesn't strike me at all as someone who'd 'fall at first sight' though (or for her character to be used in that 'love interest' role).....since ONE pretty much already subverted that trope when Suiryu teased her about it after she saw Saitama's strength (which she denied as not the reason she's interested in him; she was more interested in sharing techniques as training buddies, so I could potentially imagine much of the same for Garou. Especially if their martial arts masters shared some history and ONE's planning to go somewhere with that.) Other than that I think it'd be fun to see them ever interact for sure!
