20 Questions for Fic Writers!
I've been tagged by @stars-of-kyber and @andthebubbles. 😁 So although I feel barely qualified, I guess I best do this...
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
7. 🤗
I started about 2 months ago, so... and yes, they're all Kanthony. Initially just started as a way of contributing to Anthony Week 2023, and I didn't even expect that I'd actually do all 7 days.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
13,370.
Currently ranging at 661 to 3,779 per fic. Rookie numbers!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
So far, just my beloved Bridgerton.
But there have been a couple other shows that have tempted me...
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Astride - 166
Nursery - 118
Hunt - 105
Yours - 94
Temptation - 88
Having published a handful with various ratings, it's quite interesting to see the kudos, bookmarks (private vs public), and subs ratios! Much to think about.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes.
Why... I sort of have a need? Idk, when I see a comment it's hard to just leave it hanging there and not to reply. Like irl if someone looked at something I made and verbally commented on it... and I just stared back blankly not saying anything. 😐 This is how it feels to me on the receiving end at least haha. And my replies saying various forms of 'Thank you!' is probably quite repetitive, but hey ho.
Plus comments give you that lil hit of dopamine; from both povs as a writer or reader. Being on the reader side for most of my Ao3 activities I tend to comment on most of fics I read, I can't help it - I must tell you what I loved about it and why, and there's a pleasure in reciprocating that back too. Look, now I've written half an essay on the subject, gaaah. (I've not been on Ao3 as much as I'd like to recently, and because I opened it to scoop out the stats for some of the questions above I can now see that I have some unreads... and the need is happening.)
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmmm *thinking really hard*, I don't think any of them have an ending that is all that angsty. If I had to choose, maybe Temptation?
The pattern I've shown so far in my posted works is that it's gonna be 90% fluff. Though that is liable to change. 😆
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Nursery?
I'm not sure, cause they've all ended on a pretty optimistic note so far. But that one has Kate and Anthony with a few of their kids, so it's the furthest on the Kanthony HEA timeline.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not yet...
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Ummm 👀 I may have dabbled in some smut.
What kind... hm, the kind where both people are panting for each other, and end up caving because they literally can't hold their horniness in anymore (this totally explains why I went feral for Bridgerton S2, ha). Another pattern I seem to have is making Anthony a submissive man puddle.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not yet, but I do have some crack ideas I may explore.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, I very much doubt it.
How often does this happen to people?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No. I'd certainly be all for it if anyone ever wanted to translate any works of mine. 😊
If I was proficient enough to write in other languages, then I would probably try publishing the different versions from the get go.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Kinda?
Nothing formal, but there was a lengthy comment thread on Reddit some months ago where myself and another user went back and forth re-writing the script for that stormy library scene 😅 (not so much re-writing what was already there, bar the last few lines, more of a continuation in a universe where Kate hadn't fled).
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Must I even answer this? Kanthony, c'mon now.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
There's only 1 work that I have, where I've actually started a chapter 2. And I have all the faith that I will finish it. ✍️🤓
Other potential WIPs, that are currently just posted as one shots, only exist in my head... who knows if they will see the light of day.
16. What are your writing strengths?
This question feels illegal to be asked.
I have no idea, I'm very new to this whole writing thing. At least in terms of fiction, so I'm not sure what I'd consider my strengths to be. I feel like I need some more practice before I can get a real sense of this?
I would say that dialogue usually comes very quickly to me, and it's having to fill in the bits around it that takes more brain muscles. So that might indicate something.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Everything apart from the answer to the question above.
But really I think it's remembering that there is a world outside of the main couple happening, and trying to describe the details there. Also other general 'setting the scene' stuff like clothing, weather etc etc. I usually just want to jump straight in with some random dialogue.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
On writing it... no thoughts; not done it yet!
If I needed to for some unknown fic reason in the future, I'm sure I'll be apologising profusely in the author notes for trusting Google translate and probably butchering whatever language it is.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Still just the one so far, Bridgerton. 😌
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Hunt 🥺🥹 I was a lot of feels, and just very indulgent tbh.
I also really enjoyed my shortest one, Obedient, which was in 2nd person (hadn't done that before). The writing of that one was just really fun and I idky but I've reread it quite a bit!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes. Always. It's just wonderful to get feedback. I read and respond to every single comment. They mean the world to me, truly.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably No Good Advice. I ended up writing Moments multi-chapter as I (and a friend) couldn't bear the idea they didn't end up together lolol.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of them, tbh. I can't write an unhappy ending. Maybe the mushiest is Second Son, Moments, or It Had To Be You.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Luckily not much yet. I did get one hate anon early on. It wasn't about a specific fic, though. It said they didn't know why I had a 'please don't steal my work' disclaimer (the standard one that most writers here use) cos I was delusional that my work was worth stealing. 🤷♀️
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes, it's my trademark. It's rare when I don't write smut. 😬 I'm not sure what is meant by kind of smut. I've written it all, from vanilla romantic sex to kink threesomes with harnesses and double penetration lol. I haven't had a request yet that I've turned down due to sexual content.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not yet. The closest I've gotten is It Had To Be You, which is based on When Harry Met Sally.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes, sadly, it has happened quite a few times now. I was so fed up with filing copyright takedown notices that I set up a Wattpad account to try to counter it.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No. I've been offered but have turned it down. I have no way to check that any translation would get across the nuance I aim for. So I know that may be anglo-centric, but its how I feel for now.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet, but I am always threatening to lolol.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Hmm, tough one. I do love Kanthony tbh.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Benedict as a virgin. I just urghhh.... it's been a WIP for 17 months now. I just dunno why I won't finish it; I just get the feeling I won't.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I have no bloody idea. I'd prefer readers answer that tbh lol. My inclination is to say I don't have one, except perhaps a willingness to describe sex in ridiculous levels of detail? Is that a strength?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
World building. I will do anything to shortcut it. I'll find an economical way to describe a situation e.g. she's a widow; they're old friends. Got it? Good! Let's get down to business.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've done a smidgeon of French as I studied it for ten years. But I doubt I'd do another language tbh.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Only Bridgerton so far.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Bloody hell, I have no fucking idea. It literally changes depending on my mood. But I don't really care for my own writing that much, all I see is flaws lol. I guess the universe I would most like to write more for one day is Mrs Bridgerton and its sequel. Does that count?

If you're still doing prompts: I just saw the rooney pic set and the beckham with carra and just either of Carraville being a hot commodity? Other people having crushes or being into them? And maybe them being obvious because they only have eyes for each other or so? Or being possessive
alright lads I am BACK (the essay uh. dont even worry about it.) I've been distracted from drabbles with a) my beville wip which is getting. long. and b) making a gary character thesis statement video which is also getting. LONG.
Anyway I was gonna do a Gary half to this (w/ Stevie and Michael Owen) but it's already at like 1.2k words with just the Jamie ones so if anyone wants me to write the Gary half u will simply have to send more asks adksjfkjdasfsvdsa...

Wayne is young, and excited, and he’s scoring a lot of goals.
England is fantastic, it’s a break in the routine, a chance to play with new people. A chance to prove to the whole world that he’s the best there is, that there’s more to the buzz around him than just talk. And there’s so many United players in the squad, there’s no fear of feeling lost or out of his depth.
Except, the United players are all senior United players, that little gang of Phil, Butty, Scholesy, and of course their ringleader Gaz.
Gaz is great, but Wayne has to put up with him every day of his life and he’s not sure he can stomach spending his free time at England camp listening to his ranting when he could be doing literally anything else.
The first time he’d been called up he’d still been with Everton, and being the only player at the club to get in the squad he’d not known anyone when he got to training camp. The Liverpool lot – or rather, Jamie Carragher and his less enthusiastic mates – had adopted him, but now just a few months later everything is different, because now he plays for Manchester United.
It’s stupid, really. The club rivalry stuff. The ‘stick with your own teammates’ stuff. David Beckham doesn’t play for United anymore, but he’s still sat at their table every day, saying stuff that’s not even that funny but that makes Gaz do this stupid over the top laugh that Wayne never hears at any other time.
Gaz’ll have a go at him for it, but he’d rather go sit with Stevie and Carra.
They’re sat at a small table in the canteen, just the two of them and Mo. Except Carra’s not sitting next to Mo like he did last season, there’s no easy banter flowing between any of them. Wayne ignores the tension, or maybe he just doesn’t notice it, and he takes the long awaited opportunity to sit right next to Carra.
Gaz likes to complain about the Scousers, and about Carra in particular. He can’t stand him, thinks he’s after his position in the squad or something, like anyone would want to be a right-back. Last time they’d played Liverpool, Gaz had sat in the dressing room moaning about how Carra was a ‘pathetic little whiny bitch’ and how ‘he’s the most miserable looking footballer I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting’.
Wayne’s not sure where Gaz is getting that from, he’s always thought Carra was quite nice. Friendly, even. And he smells nice, which is unrelated but feels like it’s worth mentioning.
Even now that Wayne’s at one of his club’s biggest rivals, he still gives him a little smile and an “alright, Wazza?”
There’s a little flutter in his chest, and he grins back. “hiya, Carra. How’s things in Liverpool?”
Carra squints at him. “Did Neville send you over to spy on us?”

David is under a lot of pressure.
This was meant to be his last tournament, one last chance for him to finally do it, and now he’s sat in the dugout and every newspaper in the world is asking what his job is meant to be, exactly. He’s not a coach, his latest injury ruled him out of the squad months ago, but he’s still here, and everyone is still watching.
It’s weird, to be away with England and not have Gary by his side. He’s in a hotel in South Africa and he should be going out, enjoying the fact that for once he doesn’t have to be fit to play, but instead he’s staring at the door wishing Gary would walk through and complain about something.
It’s probably not fair to say that he misses Gary (you’re the one who left, you prick), but well – he does miss Gary. He always misses Gary. It’s a world cup, he should be here.
If he’d known, four years ago – if he’d known. He’d’ve done better, tried harder. But what thirty year old thinks they’re at the end of their international career?
So he’s here, now. He’s not a player, not a coach, he’s just David Beckham. Apparently that’s enough. The squad is changing, shifting into something unrecognisable. The senior players don’t bother with the club rivalry thing so much anymore, there’s not enough of them from each club to really justify it. So at lunch he sits with Frank and JT and Gerrard. And Carragher, who’s not got enough caps to really be a senior player at England, but who’s too old now to count as anything else. He’s always around, anyway – sticks to Gerrard like his shadow.
And sometimes – sometimes, David finds himself looking.
He’s all alone out here. He’s under a lot of pressure.
It’s been years, since he’s done anything like that. Four years, in fact. And it’s not that he’s just substituting one defender for another, but he sees a lot of Gary in Jamie. Always cross about something, always moaning. Always pushing himself in training as hard as he possibly can, always pushing the others to do the same.
And he’s not bad to look at, either. Though David’s not sure if that’s a point in his favour or not, he’s always had a bit of a soft spot for the awkward, ugly ones. Or maybe just for that one specific awkward ugly one.
He’s not quite sure how to broach the subject, spends a few days agonising over it before deciding to just get on with it and go knock on the man’s door.
Carragher squints at him when he opens the door. “Does the manager need me for somethin’?” he asks cautiously, like maybe he’s not sure what David’s job is meant to be either.
“Nothing like that, just wondered if we could talk.”
Carragher doesn’t respond, just crosses his arms and waits for David to talk.
“Um, I was thinking more like – in your room?” he says, trying to load as much meaning as he can into the words since Carragher seems a bit slow on the uptake.
Carragher waves him in and he walks ahead to sit on the end of the bed.
“If this is about that fight I had with your mate a few weeks ago, he’s the one who fuckin’ started it.”
“I – what?”
David’s not quite sure when Jamie would have had opportunity to fight any of his mates, or even which mate he might mean – they don’t exactly run in the same circles.
“I swear, he’s always in the referee’s ear, mouthy cunt.”
Ah. Gary.
He wonders when the last time United played Liverpool was. He wonders when the last time was that he asked Gary how a game went.
“We have nothing to do with the referees,” he says automatically, before remembering that he’s not really part of the we anymore, hasn’t been for a long time.
“Yeah, yeah. Well tell your little boyfriend that if he still ‘as a problem he can say it to my face, but it was his man who dived, not mine.”
“That wasn’t why I – you know what, never mind.”

WIP not on a Wednesday 💛
I've finally today been able to write for the first time in little over a week and a half... and I've honestly got a thing in my mind about Galmar at the moment. Don't even know why - but it stoked a fic idea in my head and - shock horror - a new dragonborn oc emerges from the abyss of my mind. Or rather I adapted a character, and some bullet point notes I had made, from a different idea I had months ago because I found this fit better. Her name is Aevra and I love her just like I do all the others.
But even though it was thoughts of Galmar which inspired me starting to write this, he isn't even in this WIP!! Hah....

"Still, surely it is something worth celebrating! You can’t just save the world then hide yourself away, my Thane!" Lydia protested as the two of them descended the Seven-thousand Steps, much to Aevra’s disdain. She had just done what was needed to be done, with the only other option being death – in her eyes, that wasn’t worth celebrating. "Look, you went to Sovngarde and returned. You fought the World Eater! You can quite literally summon dragons for your every whim – surely that is worth at least a drink and celebration once we return to Whiterun?"
Lowering her head and folding her arms over, Aevra sighed. Clearly, she wouldn’t be getting out of this without Lydia getting her way to some extent. "Fine. One drink at the Bannered Mare, and we will buy the largest sweetroll to share in ‘celebration’ – but that is as far as I'm going in terms of- Huh?" She stopped in her tracks when the two of them reached the lowest wayshrine and Ivarstead came into her line of sight. "What is going on down there? There are an awful lot of people, even for Ivarstead... Lydia, this isn’t your doing, is it? Trying to rope me into a party?"
"This... isn’t what I’ve been planning. I was with the Jarl in Whiterun until that, ah... Odahviing, is it? Until Odahviing returned to take me to meet you at the Throat of the World," Lydia explained, her hand coming to rest on her sword. "But I don’t like the looks of it one bit. We should proceed with caution..."
Now that was something that she could agree with.
The pair slowly made their way down towards the town, where things began to become clearer. Much clearer.
Aevra was the first to realise what exactly was going on upon the sight of Imperial armour as they approached the bridge leading into the town. It took Lydia a few moments after her realisation to notice that she was no longer moving, and was instead rooted to the spot just before the bridge.
"Are you okay...?"
This was no celebration, and they were there for her.

The two of them were surrounded. Lydia had her weapons drawn, but Aevra did not.
"I will not allow you to arrest my Thane-!"
"You do realise that this town is Imperial land, and that your Thane is a wanted criminal?" Hearing those words from Rikke did make her wince and clench her fists, but she knew that at this point, there was no escaping it... "She killed over a dozen of her fellow soldiers, attempted to kill the General, and deserted – Dragonborn or not, she cannot escape punishment for her deeds, I'm afraid. Now, she can either come along quietly and prevent further bloodshed, or we shall apprehend her through force."
At this point, Lydia had already drawn her sword, and was ready to fight. Whereas Aevra... simply had no fight left. She was exhausted from battling Alduin in Sovngarde, then descending from High Hrothgar. She also didn’t have the energy that she used to all those years ago. As much as she wanted to fight to escape, she had no doubts that she would be quickly apprehended.
Besides... she had fulfilled her ‘destiny’. She had no more purpose; the world no longer needed a Dragonborn – not if Paarthurnax was going to be teaching the remaining dragons the Way of the Voice.
Taking a deep breath, she turned to face her dear friend and housecarl, and rested her hand on her wrist to make her lower her weapon. "Stand down, Lydia. I... I think that I've made my peace," she muttered, walking past her and stopping when she was stood before Rikke. "Go back to Whiterun... and have that drink and sweetroll for us, okay? Take care of Breezehome, and take care of yourself."
"But-!"
"Lydia, you’re dismissed from your duties as my housecarl. Go home."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Dragonborn," Rikke stated, before glancing at Lydia. "Listen to her. You will be arrested for interfering with Imperial business if you remain."
Much to Aevra’s relief, Lydia cooperated, and sheathed her weapon before backing away. Even more relieving – though she wasn’t too certain whether it should have been a relief or not, given the circumstances – was that the Imperials had waited for Lydia to leave Ivarstead before she was officially apprehended.
After her arms were taken hold of, and her hands bound, she stared at the legate with as straight a face as she could. "I almost hoped that we would never cross paths again, Rikke. It hurts my heart that things have come to this..." Her head turned towards the mountain behind her, in part to conceal the wavering emotion across her face. "I presume that this has been in planning ever since the treaty was arranged? Since the General realised who I was?"
"I'm afraid so. Though I will be the first to admit that it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth having to do this to you..." Rikke made a noise, indicating that she was thinking very carefully about her next words. "To the Dragonborn... in the hours after Alduin’s defeat. But the law is the law, and you broke it."
She remained quiet after that… not that she was given the chance to speak.

Tagged by @bleue-flora (I am sorry it took so long it's been like a month I was procrastinating)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
22, because my brain hates to stay focused on one idea at a time and I just have to make everything worse. I've got a lot more half-formed ideas and three-paragraph beginnings of fanfiction too <3
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
124,920 - that's...a lot. And it's only been about a year, so yay!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Dream SMP. I'm lurking in a couple other fandoms (mostly the Locked Tomb and Dragon Age), but I haven't written anything for those yet.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
1. Off the Planned Course
Not that surprising because it's one of the fics I've been writing the longest, is the longest of my actual stories (so not counting Whumptober stuff), and it also has the most people reading it (I blame including the Syndicate for that). It's probably my favorite too, so the validation is really nice (even if I keep getting writer-blocked by it).
2. Unfortunate Circumstances
Also one of the long ones, so it makes sense that it's on this list. Also, literally the second Dream SMP fic idea I ever had, so it's great that it's still going.
3. Easier Said Than Done
This one I kind of feel bad about - I decided to change a few details a while ago and I'm still not done with editing the old stuff so I can start on new chapters, so I really haven't been writing much for it recently (i.e in the past six months). Maybe this will get me to work on it again but I wouldn't hold out hope. It's not abandoned, but it's still basically on hiatus.
4. Shared Scars
I really like this one, but I didn't really expect anyone would read it because it was just a random AU with no basis in canon about two side characters, y'know? It's just really fun to write.
5. Dive Deep Into The Dark
This one is the one that surprised me, because it's just a collection of Whumptober oneshots that I wrote in like an hour each. But, hey, apparently people liked that, so yay?
5. Do you reply to comments? Why or why not?
Whenever I can, because they're taking the time out of their day to read my stuff and going the extra step of leaving a comment, and because I just like talking about my stories and stuff <3
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Okay, this and the next question are kind of difficult because I am allergic to finishing anything, ever, and that means I have to stick to oneshots, but I'd say either everything I've ever written for a Whumptober prompt (because those are all terrible, basically) or Old Habits Die Hard (Old Reliances Die Harder) because it's an angsty canon-compliant (ish) oneshot where nothing is resolved and everything is just terrible. In my longer fics, I don't really plan for tragic endings, because the ending should be happy even if the journey there wasn't, or else the whole things sad and there's not really any point.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Again, only oneshots count for this, so I'd probably say burn the scorecards, balance out the scales, because the ending is hopeful and probably the best possible outcome via rivals duo.
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
Not really, which is great. The most I ever get is a confused comment or someone making assumptions, and that's all fine.
9. Do you write smut?
No, and I don't plan to.
10. Do you write crossovers?
No, but I have some ideas I might write that involve crossovers and I might write them eventually.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, I have not <3
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
No, but I would like to in the future.
14. What‘s your all-time favorite ship?
Drunz, for sure. It's the ship that really got me into the fandom and I've always liked that sort of toxic codependence even though they're terrible for each other.
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
All of them? Well, besides that, I'd probably have to say Off the Planned Course, because, although I really love it, I have no idea how to end that thing or when.
16. What’s your writing strengths?
Absolutely no idea, maybe internal monologues? It's hard to evaluate your own writing.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue. 100% dialogue. I get in my head about if it sounds natural or if anyone would ever say that or if I'm writing a character right and then it turns about clunky because I'm too busy worrying about it.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I don't have a problem with it, but you should provide translations in that situation so the readers have context and know what's going on.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Dream SMP
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
Probably Off the Planned Course, there are some chapters were I was just having the time of my life writing that thing even if they were immediately followed by two months of struggle.

DevLog 2
We are at log 2 and real life has already got in the way. As I don't got a lot to show off I'll post some non-spoilery asset stuff and hide the rambling under read more.
While I did get a good chunk of the script done, there is still plenty of dialogue I need to get to. As a result, I didn't get any maps done. I'm trying to make this game with RPG Paper Maker's strengths in mind, but every once in awhile I'll realize I made an assumption of what the engine can do and the script has to be put on pause because of it. For example, a lot of this game I had already planned out having pictures on screen for more cinematic scenes. Literally two days ago I realized I don't actually know how to do that in the engine. Thankfully there is a Discord for RPGPM and the people there have been a huge help.
To supplement my question I had drawn a reference of what I meant; it's nothing significant I just think it looks funny.
I'm probably not going to show off the script itself because words on a doc isn't terribly interesting. Here are talk sprites in the mean time.
In order they are Holly, Jim, and Micheal. I might talk more about them next month.
Grant herself I debating making a talk sprite for, I probably will in the end but I'm wondering if how she reacts in those sections should be left up to the player to interpret. I'm thinking about how you see Phoenix clearly while in a courtroom because of the more cinematic approach to that section of the game, but when talking to other characters you don't see his face; instead the characters are talking directly to you because it's more personal. That (and a stupid amount of over analyzing the portraits of FE13-16 because FETH criticism is fucking weird) contributed to the npcs in this game looking directly at you. Also because horror game, things are supposed to be a bit unnerving. If Grant had a sprite she wouldn't look at the player because you are playing as he;, she should reflect the fact that you are looking at the npcs.
While this is the first game I've taken really seriously as a personal project, it's development cycle still throws me off because of what I've done beforehand for school.
It's weird, normally when making a game I'd focus on gameplay first and story last. I've done a handful of small scale projects at school, and the number one thing teachers drill into your head is to have the gameplay and the narrative play off each other. Most students go in with this epic idea for a story and only really want to make it a game because games are cool, not that they think they can have the gameplay enhance the plot. This combined with a lot of demos we made were based on popular genres (FPS for example) meant our development cycle looked a lot like gameplay first then story built to compliment that. My other game ideas either looked like that or smth more equally balanced, I think of a story element and a gameplay element I thought of happens to compliment that, but I've never had to come up with the majority of the plot first then the gameplay afterwards. Part of it was trying to discourage students from doing that, because they tend to have far too ambitious plotlines in mind. The other part was like fucking hell they are teaching us that weird niche visual novel shit because we are being trained to work for some company's Toronto division pumping out sequels.
But ultimately I've just never had an idea like this one before. Half my game ideas are fighting games and the rest are platformers, puzzle games, etc. I have thought of two -ish TRPG's, and briefly came up with a couple of other visual novel ideas, but they never stuck with me as long as the likes of Red Spikey Hair Guy Needs To Let Out Some Anger The Platformer (WIP name). If that title is any indication, the plot isn't my main concern for that game yet. That's because I want to figure out the gameplay more before I further flesh the story out because I want it to blend together. And then it gets put on hold because I forget how to program. Anyways, with Riverside there is very minimal gameplay. The reason why it is still a game and not just a comic or smth is because I think it is very important that you are put in the shoes of a patient at a nursing home, because you can't really get the same empathy with any other medium. Or hell, you don't get that same experience in real life until it's too late.

Still WIP Wednesday
Okay, this is just a bit of silliness almost entirely for @weilaverdui's enjoyment - I mentioned a while ago that I was writing this... Some original stuff I've worked on over the last few months.
Misery. Misery and mediocrity.
Isolde dropped onto the lavish couch, kicked off her shoes and threw her feet onto the coffee table. It was her coffee table, after all, chosen for the intricate carvings on the legs rather than functionality, and she was the only one in the household allowed to have feet on it.
She sighed and let the stiff bones of her stays and the expensive silk of her embroidered bodice transform into a baggy shirt, the pleats of her skirt morphing into soft, comfortable pants.
Another day wasted.
A door banged open upstairs, and a booming voice announced the arrival of one of her housemates, “Oi! Any food? I’m hungry!”
“I’m not your housewife!” Isolde shouted back, regretting her decision to lounge in the living room instead of her own. Not that Mark wouldn’t have been able to feel her presence, but perhaps he would have thought twice before disturbing her.
“But you were home first,” Mark complained, fueling her annoyance further both with the demand and with the sound of his footsteps growing closer and closer.
“I’ve literally just arrived, stop being a baby! If you want food, make it yourself.”
Mark appeared in the doorway, pouting. A baby, indeed – a very buff half-naked baby with ram horns on his head. Clearly, he was also making himself at home.
They stared at each other for a few seconds.
“Can you at least put on a shirt? I don’t need all your sweat in my food,” Isolde wrinkled her nose. That was petty, but for a being that decidedly did not sweat, Mark wasn’t a very quick thinker.
“Well, that wouldn’t be a problem if you made it yourself,” he countered.
The staring match continued for a while longer.
“We should probably make some food before Tristan arrives,” Mark finally said.
Okay, maybe he wasn’t entirely as muscle-brained as Isolde would have liked to think. Petty squabbles aside, but Tristan needed to be greeted with a dinner. Possibly a warm bath, too.
Tristan might have claimed to like his job, but that didn’t stop him from reminding the other two at every opportunity that he was doing a good chunk of their jobs as well.
It was also in the Contract, that the ones saddled with less work responsibilities had to handle the household – or at least the appearance of one. But if there was one thing they all agreed on, it was human food, so cooking was a must.

I need you all to just listen to to following series of events that culminated in the most thing to happen to me in a while
I join [fandom] and start writing short-ish one shots for it
I make a side blog and in the drafts of the sideblog is where I store my drafts until I move them over to ao3 since I'm moving away from using gdocs and calmly writer, the other writing program I have on my laptop, is only accessable on my laptop so I don't use it too much, only sporadically. This is important. Remember that.
I start another fic around 5 months ago
I forgot what happened here, but at some point I took the 100 or so words I initially started with when I made the draft on the sideblog and wrote another ~1k words to add to it. Somewhere along the lines what happened to those 1k words got lost and the only remnant I have is the starting 100 words on the tumblr draft
Pissed that I lost my writing I abandon it for other wips
I write ~13+ fics, amounting to over 32k words in this fandom over the last 5 months or so. And those are just the ones I've posted
Having had enough time pass and having a hard time coming up with new ideas, I revisit the old fic I abandoned
Only, my house has no wifi currently
So my options are 1. Write it all on my phone, which has two bars of service at most, and run the risk of losing everything again if it doesn't save right, or 2. Bite the bullet and transcribe the 100 or so words to calmly writer and then continue it there and move it back over to tumblr when I have wifi again
I take option 2.
I open calmly and ignore the literal 10 tabs of wips I have named vague things like "the og" and "a" and "h" that open on startup
I open a new draft.
I hand transcribe the stuff over from where I pulled the draft up on my phone, then spend the next hour and a half ish writing another 1.5k words of stuff i know I've already written but assume lost.
I reach a breaking point. I sit back and do some minor edits before getting bit by the curious bug
I flit through some of the tabs of wips
Most of them are from fandoms I'm not in anymore
But one
The one titled h
It started off familiar.
Oh, I say.
You've got to be kidding me.
There it is. All 1472 words I wrote months ago, hidden away in calmly writer and assumed lost.
And painfully rewritten three tabs over.
I'm gonna cry.

8, 14, 16, 18 for the wip ask game 👀
8. If you could create an ideal space to work on this WIP, what would that space be like? Ooohhh this is hard. Just speaking in general (and not to any specific WIP), we got a new couch recently so I've been spending most of my writing time there. But my absolute favorite space to write ever was in my college library (a million and a half years ago). It was mostly underground, but there was a room way in the back that I liked to go to that had a window to the outside, and it was so quiet and peaceful and almost always warm and the lighting was so cozy. Probably my best ever writing was done there (because I was being actively coached at the time).
14. What has been the hardest thing about working on this WIP so far? Which one? 🤣 I feel like I have a million half started ideas/wips and haven't worked on any of them recently, so I guess the universal answer would be motivation. I just have not had the motivation to write the past couple of months. I was just lamenting to friends today that I think UU (and the epilogue) was the last time I was truly excited about a fic I was working on. Part of that is real life being busy, part of that is fandom engagement is low, but yeah, the hardest thing about writing in general right now is finding the motivation to sit down and do it.
16. What are you most excited about with finishing this WIP? If we're talking about the mixed-race cloudbabies fic... Getting the research over with? 😅 No but seriously looking through my wip folder I was actually struck with a moment of motivation to work on this fic and then immediately got overwhelmed by what I still need to learn to write accurate experiences for the cloudbabies (I'm still on the initial kataang part right now, pre-kids, so that part is a little easier).
18. What is the last sentence you wrote for this WIP? Since I literally started writing some more when I opened my WIP folder... here (it's not one sentence, but a bit of a back and forth):
“Would you prefer to be with someone from the Water Tribes?”
Katara’s head shot up. She looked more affronted than he’d ever seen her. “No! Of course not!”
Aang chuckled, and ran his fingers soothingly through her hair. “Exactly,” he said.
“But you were so happy when we visited the Avatar Aang Fan Club…” she started.
“No,” he insisted. “I was nostalgic. And I admit I got carried away and I ignored you—I’m so sorry, Katara. Can you forgive me?”

rick/abner/reader: an unwritten fic
i'm resorting to putting totally unwritten-and-never-will-be loose plot outlines on here because i want you to know my level of restraint in only having 8 wips at once
tags: rick/abner/female reader (or OFC idek i've blurred the lines between the concept of a reader character too much at this point anyway); polyamory, some angst, metahuman reader, cameos from the rest of the squad
cw for sex; unhealthy relationships and some angst below.
the reader character/protagonist, Noa, is half-human half-alien and can control metal bc I have always thought Magneto’s powers were sick. don't @ me i know what i want
she works with the Justice League in like screening/recruiting members, but she used to also work in the field
when Noa was in her mid-20s, she was sent to gotham to scout the gotham rogues for potential recruits.
(in this vision of the justice league, they understand that a lot of the metahumans who go “bad” are marginalized/poor or just need mental/psychiatric/financial help. lol @ the canon justice league that just throws them all in jail. anyway)
while in gotham she met abner, a 25 year old fugitive who had just killed his mom in self-defense. they fell in love over the few months she’s there, but Noa kept it a secret because the league would not have approved
Noa was transferred, and literal weeks later, Abner had a hallucination episode, killed a Gotham cop he thought was his mom trying to kill him, and was sent to Arkham and then Belle Reve
Waller doesn’t let the high security prisoners have any contact with the outside world and even with her league connections Noa can’t get past waller, so eventually she sort of gives up, but keeps working on the side to take Waller down
her chance comes over a decade later: after Peacemaker Season 1, when Leota blows the whistle on Task Force X. Waller becomes a fugitive with the current iteration of Task Force X, and the League officially has the go to take her out
Noa leads the mission along with Kaldur’ahm and Zatanna (bc i miss young justice!!!) and also recruits Rick Flag bc he knows Waller better than anyone
Rick survived Corto Maltese and quit the army, he’s basically been drifting for about a year without much of a sense of purpose, but he’s also pretty mad at Waller
Noa and Rick hit it off and have a brief fling while they're both living at the League headquarters and prepping for the mission. they don't define the relationship, but they do really like each other 👀
Noa does tell Rick that she was romantically involved with Abner 12 years ago, but is also like "yeah, that was over a long time ago"
Waller is planning her revenge on Rick and everyone else who survived Task Force X: Harley, Cleo, Abner, etc., so the team first rescues Cleo, who’s on the run again, and then head to Gotham to get Harley, only to find out that Abner’s been crashing there too.
Abner freaks out/runs away crying when Noa shows up and then there's this incredibly painful miscommunication where Noa is trying to reassure him that she's been trying this whole time to stop Waller and she's sorry it took so long, and Abner (who never got over his first love!!) takes that as "we're still together". meanwhile Rick is over here like thisisfine.jpg
Dubois and Tyla are both missing, but Zatanna uses magic to locate them; only when they arrive at Waller's supposed hideout, Dubois attacks them bc Waller once again has Tyla as leverage against them
they're losing badly against Dubois bc he knows all their weaknesses till Abner joins the fight and uses his polka dots in Noa's defense. but part of the building collapses, and Rick tries to shield Noa with his own body, and Abner starts to be like . hey what is going on here :(
Noa has to go into a sort of short-term hibernation to heal from her injuries so Rick takes over the team to take out Waller and save Tyla. so they find her next hideout, but Waller's left footage of Rick and Noa sleeping together from before the mission started, and Abner punches Rick in the face. (i don't care if this is an unrealistic move for Waller, i think it's funny and also ~ tears the team apart ~)
Noa wakes up just in time to have to stop Abner from physically attacking Rick and force everyone back into the jet
I think at this point they will actually find Waller and Abner gets to kill her bc I think he should be allowed some "dissolving people into goo", as a treat, especially when it's the person who put a bomb in your brain
Noa reluctantly breaks things off with Rick BUT they have breakup sex about it and then minutes later Noa gets back together with Abner.
because Rick is SUCH a nice/normal person, nothing really changes and their team is still working together so it's like. hm. okay. guess we're all friends now
very soon after this, Abner is like, hey i fucked up. i shouldn't have punched rick in the face because (dramatic pause...) now I have a crush on him too; it wasn't jealousy, i just felt left out
which obviously leads to an eventual lowkey threesome invitation, but because Rick is like "sure I can control my emotions (lie)" and Noa is like "sure I can control my emotions (lie)" and Abner is like. ha ha two partners! score!, the "just sex" lasts for approximately 30 seconds and then they're like oh god okay i think i like you for real
anyway that's my plan to have delicious ot3 angst and shenanigans thanks for reading :)

I finished it. Holy crap.
I am literally half a sentence away from finishing my WIP. That has never happened with anything over maybe 5000 words. This is a couple hundred over 35,000. I only started it on June 20th and it is *half a sentence* away from being done.
It's a Fast & Furious Au of the first movie, the premise is what if it all happened right after Brian got out of juvie instead of after a few years as a cop. It's very heavily leaning on the idea of found family, parts are definitely cheesy, and the plot is basically 'the team finds out Brian is a narc and this actually makes a lot of things better'. I love every word and will post a link below in case anyone is interested (lol, I'd love that), but that's not really the point.
I spent so long *not* finishing things. I have things written that are far longer than this, like +100,000. Things that deal with topics this briefly touches or skirts past because it is mostly meant to be a feel good piece with (hopefully) depth. Things that I spent years on. Some of them aren't even fanfiction, lol.
But I finished this. I did it, actually went back and finished the one sentence left in the middle of writing this post. In less than three months. I am both incredibly proud of myself and like, kind of in shock. It's done. It feels like this means I can do it. Writing everyday (almost) wound up being easier than I expected, and I do better with a steady routine anyway. I've just started a new job and won't have as much free time, but What it is exactly, other than 'keep writing things and finishing them' I don't really know. But still. It.
I both do and don't regret posting it on AO3 before it was finished. If I hadn't I'd probably let it sit for a month, do a general pass over it and then do one specifically to add more descriptions of sounds, smells, probably colors. Areas I really want to flesh out in my writing. Make things pop. On the other hand, having people subscribe, bookmark, leave kudos and especially comments, was incredibly encouraging and had me wanting to finish each pov piece so I could post and see the reactions. Some of the comments had me exploring things I might not have otherwise,and the sense of community when a comment and my response turned into a discussion was *chef's kiss*. But what might I have come up without them that could have been just as interesting to explore?
Also, if anyone is looking for a quality writing book I highly recommend Several Short Sentences About Writing by Verlyn Klinkenborg. I haven't read any of his other stuff yet, but I need to, because oh boy, did I love this book. Like reading prose poetry, yet it is an incredibly clear and easy read that taught me so much. It definitely impacted my writing here and will do so in the future.
And now that everyone has quit reading like three paragraphs ago. I will share that link.
So, The Buster's a Narc...
Summary:
Slowing now, and motioning for Jesse to stay back and keep low, Vince started sidling around the side of the house, following sounds of muffled moving, a few thumps.
If the Buster was over here fucking shit up for fun or to let off steam, he was gonna kick him square in his ass. Maybe the balls too, for good measure.
But no, squatting down in the overgrown grass so he could see down into the daylight basement, that wasn’t what the Buster was doing.
What he was doing was getting slammed back into a concrete wall so his head cracked against it, a real official looking guy in a suit shouting in the kid’s face. This time when Vince told Jesse what to do there was no protest, his wiry legs eating up the ground as he ran for home and Dom.

It varies, some ideas come from discussion, some I literally just think up. A few I get a single scene in my head and I build up to it.

No usually an idea will stick in my head and I'll go with it, I try not to force anything on starting fics. But I will force myself to update once I start publishing.

The wet splatters, barely visible on his dark clothes, hadn't helped anything either.
It had been frightening, seeing him wound tight in anticipation over something like killing a living creature.

No but I should! I know I work better with music but i just never do.

I do enjoy research! I think Our Circus, Our Zoo took the most research just because it was my first BC fic, I was newer to the fandom and I wanted timelines and stuff to match up. I have learned more about Finland than I ever thought I would 🤣.

That rotates, I'll always have a soft spot for my first posted fic. I'm liking The night won't let me go at the moment.

Probably Pack Bond as it's literally an alternative to my own story 😶

So I really like writing Tommi, lately been getting into writing Samy too (Aleksi is an easy fall back)

YES. someone gave me the idea for a detective AU months ago and I have a small idea for it but I feel like I wouldn't do it justice but I like the idea and ARGH.

I do write a lot of poly. I have several stories with religious angst too.

This scene always makes me laugh (for anyone not in the know Johnny is a hitman in this story) plus Robin actually having a nice time in a very emotional story.
They got a couple different entrees and shared, talking about their lives; although Robin swore Johnny was a bit shifty when the topic of work came up.
"What do you do for a living?" Robin asked around a bite of egg roll.
Johnny had hummed a bit, his eyes not meeting Robin's for a moment, "pest removal." He finally said.
Robin nodded, "an important job for sure." He said.
Johnny smiled as he agreed, something sparkling in his eyes.
"How about you?" He asked.
"Programming. I've always liked computers." He told him, "it's really not the most exciting line of work though."
Johnny shrugged, "stable though, I would imagine."
"That's true."
66. What’s a fun fact about [insert fic]? *Your Memories like a Weight on My Heart*
It was extremely cathartic for me to write. Maybe not really a "fun" fact but a lot of what Robin does is directly ripped from my own response after a very close friend passed unexpectedly last year.
72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?
Honestly when anyone says they reread my fics/use them as a bedtime story/ it makes them feel better on a bad day. I melt like butter on toast.

Just Us Now: part 3 of my the Hybrid series. The type of gratuitous hurt/comfort that I'd only post on AO3. It's literally done and has been for days, but I'm not satisfied.
Guardian Angel: the continuation of those two omegaverse imagines with an actual fic which will have a couple more chapters. finishing the world building at the beginning of the chapter.
