There are two things that Damian knows that he knows Father doesn’t.
He has an older brother
He was dead
(And a secret third thing: Damian was glad he was dead. They did not get along.)
Well. No, correction, they were two things that Damian knew that Father didn't. Past tense. Strange magic swirled through the air and created a mirage before his eyes, and immediately a scowl forms across his face.
The mirage shifts and shimmers like the light hitting a slowly turning prism, and then it settles into a memory. One that Damian does not recall. Like looking into a tv screen, it shows, faintly, a room, with most of the magic going into the image of a crib.
His mother was standing on one side, and next to her, standing on his tiptoes was a small five year old boy looking up at her. With dark hair and skin that was only few shades lighter brown than Damian's, the little boy's resemblance to Damian was undeniable.
However, his eyes were blue. Not green. Damian's scowl deepens, and he sinks back. "Danyal." He mutters, and feels eyes turn on to him.
Danyal Al Ghul. Damian's older brother. A prodigal swordsman like Damian, and five years his senior. He'd be fifteen if he was still alive. His memory of the last time he saw his brother was still clear in his mind.
(A sword to Danyal's neck. Stars were glittering through his window. Damian was five, Danyal ten. He is not sure why Danyal had snuck into his room, all he remembers is hearing a sound and on instinct reaching for his sword.)
(His brother had intercepted easily. But had not shoved the sword away. Moonlight hit his blue eyes, and Damian remembers seeing the pupils shrink to let the light in. His eyes looked almost silver.)
(His brother bares his teeth at him. Damian wants to slice his neck more than anything, and he bares his teeth back. "Good." Danyal says, his voice low in a hiss, "Your reflexes are good, little brother.")
("Of course they are," Damian remembers snarling, and presses the sword closer. But it does not budge. "I am an Al Ghul.")
(Something unrecognizable passes through his brother's eyes, and his mouth twists into something like a smile. "I know." He says, and tilts his head downwards at him. "And you will be great.")
(His brother shoves the sword back, causing Damian to stumble. And like the wind, he is gone.)
(The next morning, he goes on a mission with mother and a few others. Mother is the only one to return with Danyal's sword, and a red-eyed look in her eyes. Damian does not mourn. Now there's only one of them.)
"Momma." The little Danyal-mirage speaks, a furrow between his childlike brows as mother lowers a bundle into the crib. His blue eyes watch her, and lifts onto his toes to peer into the crib as she sets the baby down. "Who is this?"
Their mother's hand comes to rest along his back. "This is Damian, my son." She murmurs, voice low. "He is your little brother. Protect him well."
Damian scoffs internally -- not likely. He remembers every spar he ever had with Danyal, every harsh word and insult. His pushing, pushing, pushing for Damian to get up. To try again. Do it again. The only kindness he ever showed him was when his fingers bled. And even that was harsh, firm. Rolling gauze around his wrist and scolding him, telling him how to wield his weapon better.
(It was the same as everyone else, but somehow it hurt worse coming from his own brother.)
But he watches his older brother's youngest self tilt his head to the side, and then reach his chubby hand through the crib's bars. He runs small, blunt fingers over the baby's arm, and the baby jerks. Through the crib's bars, Damian sees himself grab Danyal's fingers.
And he scowls even deeper.
And Danyal's eyes... widen. He lets out a little gasp, and a small smile Damian's never seen him wear tilts at the corner of his mouth as he looks up at their mother. "Mother," he whispers, "he grabbed me!"
Damian... his scowl falters, for a moment.
He doesn't wait for a response, he looks back to the baby with sparking eyes. His expression melts like sugar as he bounces the finger being gripped tight by the small hand. "Hello, little brother." His brother says, voice its of usual firmness, but there's more fondness underlying it than Damian's ever heard. "My name is Danyal."
The mirage shifts before Damian can comprehend his older brother's voice. It shows the crib again, appearing as if a few days had passed. There is night lilting through the nearby window, and a creek of the door. The baby doesn't stir.
Danyal sneaks in, still wearing his training clothes and a sword strapped to his side. Damian's scowl returns, watching him creep over to the crib. Of course -- the last night he saw his brother wasn't the only time he'd snuck into his room.
Would he go so low as to attack an infant? Damian wonders, watching his brother cross the room to his crib. But while his fingers rest against the hilt, they never curl to unsheathe.
His brother peers into the crib again, and there it is again, that smile wider in the corner of his mouth. It's not a full one, but its as uninhibited as it gets. Dripping honey-sweet with awe. "You are so tiny." Danyal whispers, and pokes a finger back through the crib. It wriggles, then pokes Damian's cheek gently. "Was I as small as you when mother gave birth to me?"
There is no response from the baby. Not a coherent one anyways, the little thing snuffles and turns his head, mouth open to latch. Danyal stills, his eyes grow ever wider again.
Danyal says nothing else, just rests his cheek against the crib and watches the baby sleep in silence. The affection never leaves his young face.
Damian feels unsettled. Off-foot. This Danyal is foreign to him... He wonders what happened to have changed his brother's mind on him.
There's a scuffle, quiet, but there. Danyal picks up on it just as Damian does, and his head pricks up like a deer, head already turning away from the crib. The affection leaves his face, falling away like water into something serious. His blade is already slightly unsheathed.
Two assassins, belonging to grandfather, burst out of the shadows. Their swords swinging into the air and ready to strike.
Danyal kills them both, his back to the crib. It's not without struggle, and when the two assassins lay dead on the floor, the baby is wailing at the top of his lungs. Danyal has a laceration cleaving down diagonal of his cheek. It's close to his eye, just barely missed blinding him.
Damian never knew how he got that scar. He does now. (He doesn't know how to feel about it.)
His brother clutches his bleeding face, sheathing his sword as tears well up onto his face. But he turns towards the crib, and hurries over. "You're okay, you're okay, you're okay." He hushes rapidly, the League-drilled seriousness fallen away to reveal a panic-stricken five year old. He sticks one hand into the crib, the one not clutching anything, and grabs little Damian's hand.
Their mother comes bursting in that moment, and Danyal turns his head towards her. "Mother." He says, his voice cracks un-wantingly. Their mother steps over the bodies of the assassins easily. "They tried to kill Damian."
"But they did not." Talias says, kneeling down next to the crib to inspect Danyal's face and Damian's well-being. When she finds nothing of concern beyond the injury, she continues. "You killed them before they could, Danyal. Well done."
The mirage of his brother nods, his eyes teary and red.
Damian... is discomfited. he never thought Danyal would kill assassins for him. He would have thought his brother would sooner look the other way. The mirage shifts again, and it quickly shows time passing.
Danyal sits in Damian's nursery every night, after that. He lays at the foot of the crib with his sword, a pillow and a blanket with him. Some nights there is nothing but peace -- or as close to peace as a baby could achieve -- and some days assassins break in.
Danyal kills each one.
The mirage shifts again, and it shows more memories of Danyal interacting with Damian during his youth too young for him to remember. His first steps, his first words.
"Danya." The small toddler of Damian says, arms reaching for Danyal.
A frown curls across Danyal's face, and pulls Damian into his lap. "No, no, little brother." He scolds, voice firm but.. softer. "It is Danyal, Damian. Danyal."
"Danya!"
Damian's brother sighs, but there is that same-small tilt at the corner of his mouth. A glimmer in his eyes. A glimmer... that Damian is finding he recognizes.
(He always thought his brother got that look in his eyes when he was mocking him. Was he wrong?)
The mirage shifts again, and this time it shows only mother and Danyal, alone. Danyal is older, taller. Seven, if Damian had to guess. Mother has a stern look on her face, her hands tight on his shoulders. "Damian will be starting training soon, my son."
Ah, then close to eight then. Training starts, always, at three years old. He watches Danyal nod, his expression mimicking their mother's. His arms are folded, always folded, behind his back, always neat.
"You can no longer have the relationship with your brother as you did before." Mother says.
Danyal's expression... falters. It shifts, it fluctuates. He looks surprised, thrown off. Like he isn't quite sure he heard what mother just said. His brows furrow. "What... do you mean, mother?"
"I mean what I said, Danyal." Mother says, stern, "Ra's will be keeping a closer eye on Damian now that he is of age to begin his training. He will not like if he sees you both getting along."
"I am sorry, my child. But your relationship with Damian ends here. You are rivals now, not brothers." In a cruel form a gentleness, mother raises her hand and tucks a stray curl out of Danyal's face.
Of course. Damian never had a relationship with his brother because of Grandfather. Of course. No, he's not feeling a little bitter. No. There's not an inner child that still, like a candleflame, wishes that he'd had a bond with his only flesh and blood.
Danyal is dead now. So it's not like it matters. He's happy about this.
Danyal frowns, and he steps back. He looks lost in thought. "We are still brothers, mother," he says, argues, and looks up to meet mother's eyes. "Let me train him, I will make sure he gets the skill he needs. If we must be rivals, then I will teach him how to defeat me. If he can defeat me, he can defeat anybody."
Their mother, and Damian, both blink in unison. Then mother smiles something sharp, calculated. She folds her hands behind her back. "Then do it. But you will make him hate you."
"...So be it."
Damian.... Damian is silent. His world axis has been tilted on its head. He is sliding, and sliding, and sliding down. Spinning. Many things click into place at once.
More memories from the mirage show. It shows Danyal training Damian. It shows their arguing, their bickering. It shows Danyal going to their mother to praise Damian and his skills, how fast he is picking up on the sword. How one day he will surpass even him.
It shows Danyal sitting outside Damian's bedroom door every night, listening in for anyone who dares to break in. His knees drawn to his chest, his sword at his side. Sometimes he sneaks in, sword drawn, when he hears a sound.
Some nights, Damian wakes up. He remembers those nights. Danyal standing over his bed with his sword unsheathed and tight at his side. He remembers the instant terror as he immediately reached for his own weapon.
His brother always scolded him for his lack of vigilance. That had he been anyone else, Damian would have had his neck cut. He would've been dead already. It only made Damian's hatred of him grow.
But he understands now. Because there were assassins in the room that Damian, four years old, three, did not notice. Not until later. He always assumed the attacks on him after Danyal's death had been because now there was a new heir to target.
It had been the only lesson he'd been even somewhat grateful for.
Then finally the mirage shimmers, and it shows Danyal, ten years old, in one of the training rooms, mid-spar with Mother. It's fast, sharp, impressive and like a blur. Damian is unsure if at ten which one of them was the better swordsman. Some of the assassins who have never met Danyal said Damian was, but the ones who had said it was Danyal. He'll never know.
In a lull in the fight, when their swords are crossed, mother speaks. "Ra's wants you and Damian to fight." She says, teeth grit into a deep scowl. The cross breaks and Danyal jumps back, he frowns.
"We have fought, mother." He says, and dives in first, swinging for mother's feet. Mother dodges, and slices at his arm. He swerves out of the way, twisting on his feet like a dance. "We are always fighting, doesn't he see our spars?"
"Not a spar like that, my son." Mother says, a snarl in her voice. She lunges, and Danyal blocks her blade. "A fight to the death. Father has grown tired of having two heirs."
That gets Danyal's attention -- or, more accurately, it distracts it. His eyes widen, and his sword lowers for a single moment. A mistake. "What?" Is all he gets out before mother has him on his back, her blade pressed to his throat.
He freezes. As does Damian. Danyal's brows furrow, then unfurrow, only to knot up again. "Mother, what do you mean a fight to the death?" He flips to his feet when mother removes the sword. She walks over to grab her water.
"Must I repeat myself, Danyal?" Mother snaps, rubbing her forehead before swigging from her canteen. "Father wants to find out which one of you is the stronger heir, and so you will fight to the death after your training in a few days."
Danyal's tan face loses a shade of color, he looks ashy. "There must be some mistake!" He exclaims, his arms gesturing out as he peers around mother. "There is a five year disparity between us, Damian has only just started training two years ago. It would be an unfair fight!"
"Do you think me unaware?" Mother whirls on him, and there is a grief-stricken look on her face. Like she is already mourning Damian's death. Damian feels ill. "Your skill is far beyond what Damian can accomplish right now, and there is nothing that I say that can convince Father otherwise."
Danyal wears an expression like he is scrambling for answers. A white knuckle grip on his weapon. There is a long silence, and his lower lip curls up. His throat bobs, he swallows. "Is there really nothing we can do?"
Mother makes a frustrated sound, pushing her loose hairs out of her face. "Not unless Father changes his mind, or I send one of you away. But Father would surely send someone to look for you or Damian."
"What if one of us faked our death?"
Mother stills. As does Damian. No, he thinks, stiff as a rod, no way. These mirages were lying, nothing but figments of an imagination. Of some quiet what-if that Damian had not yet stomped out.
Mother's expression shifts, and then turns contemplative. Danyal notices, and keeps pushing, he looks as hopeful as he could get beyond his usual unwavering, stone-like expression. "One of us could go to father--"
"No." Mother cuts off, voice sharp. Danyal wilts, confusion flittering across his face. Damian, from the corner of his eye, sees Father tense as stone. His white-slit eyes have not left the mirage. Nobody's has.
"Father will undoubtedly check there first, it would not be a good idea. You or Damian will have to go somewhere where he would not think to look. Someone unaffiliated with the League."
Danyal's face falls, shutters, and then closes up again into stone. Mother begins to pace, and Danyal's blue eyes follow her. "So a stranger?" He asks, and there is disgust lilting into his voice.
Mother nods, and she looks just as offput as Danyal.
The mirage of Damian's brother rolls his shoulders back. "Then I will do it, mother." He says, voice unwavering. There is a stubborn note behind it all, one that Damian recognizes. "I will fake my death, and Damian will stay here."
Mother's eyes turn sharp on him, and she stops in her spot. She pivots. "Are you sure?" She asks, eyebrow raising, "There is a chance you will never meet your Father if you leave. Nor will you see I or Damian again, if you do this."
Something like fear flickers across Danyal's face, eyes widening momentarily -- as if that very thought had not crossed his mind. But then it smooths over to sharp determination. He nods. "It would be the same for Damian if it was him instead. I will do it, Mother."
Damian feels ill again. Father has a strong set in his jaw, his teeth grinding.
Mother stares at Danyal, and then her expression softens. And like before, it is grieving. "In a few days time, I and another member of the League will be going on a mission to the American States. I will tell Father that you will accompany me, once there we will dispose of the other member and then orchestrate your death."
The American States. Danyal was here, in the country. He was out there somewhere -- but no this was fake. It had to be. Danyal was dead. A fool who got himself killed on a mission with mother and left the title of Heir to Damian.
Or maybe it had been his plan all along. His and mother's both.
...Was mother ever going to tell him?
The mirage of Danyal nods, sharp. Understanding. There is a gleam in his eyes that is not pride, it is tears. And when Mother leaves the room and leaves him alone, the stone-like expression on his face crumbles and falls.
His brother, ten years old, curls up his lip in an ugly way. It wobbles as the tears in his eyes do, and he brings up his hand to slam it over his mouth. And sinks to his knees, a yell-like sob muffled behind the skin.
His brother, ten years old, looks smaller than Damian remembers him being, and cries.
Damian has never seen Danyal cry. Not once in the mirage of memories, nor in his own.
The memory holds for a minute, and then disappears. And no new one shows up. The magic is gone, and it leaves a silence in its wake. Heavy, staticky, and full of revelations.
So there are two things that Damian knows that his Father now knows too.
He has an older brother
His older brother is alive.
(And a new secret third thing: Damian wasn't sure how to feel about it.)

A memory of home
a neat idea that i've seen about is that having a ghost pokemon as a partner will have some odd affects on you, say for example giving you glowing eyes
another thing, this is not seen in Hisui as people are'nt really friendly with pokemon ghost types especially
and finally a widely vilified pokemon like zoroark meeting someone who is only wary of you not afraid, who also shows clear signs they were at some point the friend of a ghost type would prob endear that person to you a bit huh
sketch vs final below

had fun using some new techniques and brushes with this one

you have that one amazingly angsty drawing of radioapple. It’s the one where Luci says “you can break my heart, it’s only yours to break” or something like that and alastor admits that they are only in a relationship because he has ulterior motives. What are his motives?
btw it literally made me SOB. Love your art sm <3
Oh, to be completely honest I did not think that far! I just wanted to project HAHAHA
If I were to think of something on the spot, said "motive" would probably be: he wants to Take Over Hell, and what better way to do that than to strike the Ruler himself?
...something like that. Not very set on it, but yeah!

Watch My Back (Haz/bin)
WELP I didn't think I'd be whumping the short king before my deer boi but HERE WE ARE. I blame @instarsandcrime for my newfound simping after this absolute disaster of a man 🥵🥵🥵 and this got INDULGENT LET ME TELL YOU. Now, enjoy this fic based on a prompt by my aforementioned friend, where Alastor plays bodyguard to Lucifer and finds out Mr. Silly has a holy wound (and then unFoRtuNatELy gets whumped by the author). ;)
“Must I?”
Charlie gazes dolefully up at the Radio Demon, hands clasped in what some people (not Alastor of course) would call prayer.
“Pleeeease, Alastor?” she begs. She doesn’t ask for a lot, but this request seems…well. Strange. Really? A bodyguard for her father? Fathomless.
He sighs, bandwidth crackling. “Very well, though I really don’t see the necessity for it. Your father is quite capable of taking care of himself, you know.”
Behind them, Lucifer picks up a glass trinket between two sharp fingers to examine it, his mouth crooked and casual. As if connected to it by a wire, Niffty’s crimson hair stands on end. She all but teleports to Lucifer, startling him so suddenly, he drops the trinket, shattering it so it’s shards fan across the hard floor.
“Noooo!” Niffty bursts into tears, her tiny arms scrabbling to scoop up the pieces. “My new boyfriend got me that!” she wails.
Alastor hums. “On second thought, perhaps he could no sooner care for himself than tie his own shoelaces.”
Charlie resists the urge to smack him. “Alastor, you have to be nice.”
“Mm~ I’ve already agreed to help you. Let’s not push the limits of my capabilities.”
Charlie hurries off to give the news to her father while Alastor swaggers toward an empty table propped flush against a wall. Niffty hadn’t finished decorating this one, but Alastor has quite the idea for it anyway. He was just fluffing the long white petals when the pouting visionary of Hell stomps over.
His gaze crawls over the perennial plant and he scowls harder. “What are these?”
“Lilies! Aren’t they swell? I thought you’d appreciate some charm during your stay, oh esteemed one,” Alastor’s voice is sticky with sarcasm.
Lucifer scowls at the sadistically named plant. He sucks on his lips and Alastor suppresses a chuckle.
“Are you displeased, sir?”
“Hm, what?” Lucifer blinks out of his wayward thought. “No, of course not,” he thumps his cane on the plush carpet. “Do whatever. I don’t c--hiih!”
Lucifer jerks away, eyes pinched. He dips down with a strange, “IkPFShw!” The jerk of his limbs strikes a bronze anteater figurine and, again, sends the trinket crashing to the floor to break into pieces.
“NOOO!” Niffty screeches, flying to its rescue. “My other boyfriend made that for me!”
Lucifer’s fingers squeeze his moist cheeks and he sniffles thickly. “I…I do apologize, little one. I--”
She rears back and kicks him in the ankle. “You’re the wrong kind of bad boy!”
Lucifer grunts as she skitters away with the pieces tucked into the balloon of her apron.
Alastor smothers a snicker at his expense, antlers lengthening just a tick.
“Well,” Lucifer draws the word out, adjusting his crooked bowtie, ignoring the flush in his own cheeks. “I have errands to run--”
Charlie suddenly appears in the doorway as if the word ‘errands’ manifested her.
“You’re leaving?”
Lucifer’s lip forms a triangular frown. “I, uh,” his cheek feathers, “Sweetie, I have to make appearances now that I’m not…”
“Self isolating for years on end, with only negative self talk as your social activity, and trying to get through it by throwing yourself whole ass into repetitive passion projects that seem fulfilling at the time but end up not meeting your expectations just like your own self image?” Angel calls from the bar.
Everyone stares at the puffy porn star. Husk rolls up a newspaper and smacks him hard upside the head.
“Ow!”
Lucifer scratches his jaw anxiously. “Uh, yeah. That.”
Charlie masks her disappointment with a glimmering smile. “Well! I’m sure that will be a great bonding exercise for you and Alastor!”
The two men exchange wilted looks.
“Sshhhhhure sweetie!” Lucifer faux beams. He straightens his tophat and pats his thigh at Alastor as if coaxing a dog. “Come on attendant. Pip pip!”
Alastor’s teeth grind, smoke trailing as he follows behind the shorter King.
“Have fun!” Charlie waves her whole arm after them, fangs flashing in her winning smile. “Make good choices!!”
The bar Lucifer goes to is on the edge of the pentagram. The outside is brown brick partially crumbling but held together with thick, gristly magic. A scarred bouncer with gills and an oval mouth allows them in without a word.
Inside, the music is surprisingly tolerable. No thumps and booms, no bleats and drops like clubs Vox would have dragged Alastor to.
It’s…refreshing.
Lucifer makes a beeline for a corner clear of furniture but thick with an assortment of hellborn rulers and a few overlords. He must be making those appearances…
To Alastor’s right, a sinner catches his eye. A silver-haired demon with long rabbit ears and a plaited braid. Her features are guarded and soft with youth. She holds an empty glass, bone dry. A purple nail taps the rim, her eyes fixed on the bottom but not really seeing it.
Alastor pauses at the young woman, fingers curling tightly around his cane. The youth’s dull eyes flick to his and her soul bares for a fleeting moment.
Fear. Abuse. Mangled by hands more powerful and more able-bodied than she.
Alastor feels his blood ignite, his fangs sharpen with desire for vengeance.
The youth flinches, reacting to Alastor’s anger, not knowing the cause.
A faraway sound skirts the edge of his rage, strangely familiar, a twisting of lips and grating throat.
The sound snaps Alastor’s rage into shards and he blinks himself back into the noise around him. He circles toward the bar, moseying his way through the greasy crowd and leans in to hum statickly at the barkeep.
“Serve that young woman anything she wishes,” he gestures to the silver haired sinner.
The barkeep grunts, “She's gonna wait her turn.”
The Radio Demon growls, his height and timbre climbing several inches. “Apologies…I was not clear.” His claws cut jagged lines into the wooden counter. “I meant Ń̷̤̫̎̄̽͆̈̏͐͜O̶̭͂̃͑̚W̶̧̡͙͍̊́͆̾̚͠”
The barkeep swallows and nods. And moves to obey.
Now, where the fuck is his highness?
Lucifer has buried himself in the cloud of sinners and hellborn. Alastor doesn’t recognize some of them. He doesn’t move in those circles--not for lack of trying.
They’re chittering away like warbling fowls.
‘So and so! Good to see you!’
‘It’s been too long!’
‘How are things on your side of the pit?;
‘Still tormenting in the ancient methods?’
‘Have you seen the big guy in charge?’
‘Oh he’s still jacking off to his thunderbolts AH HAH HAAA’
Dreadfully boring.
One of the more vibrant hellborn cracks a joke and Lucifer tosses his head back in laughter. It sounds fake as fuck.
Something slips under Alastor’s foot, giving him pause. It’s the scent--something venerated and familiar...
He looks down and sees a spatter of gold dotting the grimy tile, with a larger puddle at the tip of his shoe.
Curious, Alastor taps his cane to the floor, leveraging himself so he can kneel. He bends low enough to dip a claw over the silken, rippling surface.
As soon as his skin warms with the liquid, his nerves purr. The buzz tingles up his body and he shivers violently.
His throat crackles, “Hvv٨ﮩSH٨ـﮩZh!”
Smoke mists from him and he wrenches away from the puddle, wiping his hand on the end of his coat. Hmph. A strange enigma…
His ears twitch, picking up another trill of laughter from the gaggle surrounding Lucifer. How long is he going to put up this farce?
Alastor watches the king of Hell intently and recognizes uneasiness in his firelit eyes. Definitely a veneer, batting away personal inquiries and distracting with jokes or redirecting by asking after the speaker.
Oh, clever bitch he thinks he is. Alastor sees right through him. The Radio Demon hones in on the audio, intent now on eavesdropping.
“...majesty,” a thatchy demon gurgles, boisterously laughing along with a large forked claw grasping his square belly. “How’s the wife?”
Lucifer’s smile slips, brief, and the gleam in his eyes dim. “Oh, fine, fine. Beautiful as ever, of course. And how is your partner? Are you still dating the Y2K virus?”
The square demon barks a laugh. “Oh, no no no. We broke up ages ago. Toxic as fuck. Noooo, I’m dating Vine now. You wouldn’t believe the cosplay sex--”
Lucifer slaps his chest and gasps. “Vine died??”
Alastor groans. What the fuck are they talking about?
Lucifer suddenly makes a jerking motion, mirrored by a violent squeak. Alastor’s heart races when he sees the King wince and bend in what looks to be a pained twist.
Fuck! Is he actually being attacked? Alastor vanishes in a cloud of spindly shadow, reappearing next to Lucifer and spurring shocked gasps from a few of the rulers in the group.
“Your highness,” the Radio Demon titters, with as much respect as he can fucking muster.
“H-hgxPST!” Lucifer’s raspy sneeze bursts into a squeezed fist, startling Alastor, who hesitates his next sentence.
Was he wrong? Did he overreact and now he came to Lucifer’s rescue over…a fucking sneeze? Rrrgh. Shame sharpens his claws around his microphone and anger shortly follows. How does this asshole even sneeze without a nose??
Lucifer scrubs his face with his palm and lets out a ridiculous whoop.
“Hooo! Sorry about that! Didn’t mean to scare ya, buddy,” he jabs Alastor with his elbow as if they were best friends. Alastor’s teeth powder with the effort of restraint.
“No worries your hig̵͐h̶̘̕n̴̡̕e̴s̵͛٨ـs.” his smile climbs nearly into his eyes. “I am here to serve.” He hooks his arm under Lucifer’s, linking elbows so the King cannot escape and dragging him away, ignoring the startled protests of the shorter man.
Alastor stops when he arrives at the golden droplets and releases Lucifer before tapping his cane on the floor. “Have you seen this?” he asks, cracking his neck to the side inquisitively.
Lucifer rubs his finger over his chin and hrms.
“Ah, well,” he shrugs, barely looking at Alastor, “Someone must have spilled ambrosia I suppose.”
Alastor’s brows shoot up. “Ambrosia? What, may I ask, is that?”
He didn’t think it was possible for someone so ceramically pale to whiten further, but Lucifer seems to do just that. “Ahhhmmm, nevermind…” Lucifer’s fingers brush the hem of his suit and his face crimps. He clears his throat and slithers away.
“Will you excuse me for a moment?”
Alastor scoffs. Even if he might have been wrong about the sneeze, there’s a chance he isn’t. And his gut is telling him something’s amiss. He’s not about to let this asshole swan off alone. “Oh, I’m sorry, but I was charged with your care, your grace. I have a duty, you see~”
Lucifer’s eyebrow twitches, annoyance painting his face with a flush. “I assure you, I can use the fucking restroom by myself,” he gives a fangy smirk.
“In a dump like this?”
“Alastor, leave me the fuck. Alone.”
Before Alastor can press further, Lucifer does indeed swan off. The door to the restroom clips shut, separating him from the King.
What a dramatic wretch. Well, a door won’t stop a demon. A clattering rap with the back of Alastor’s hand causes a thump from within followed by a vexed, “Occupied!”
“Obviously. Yet I am entering regardless.” Alastor grips the warm knob. It rattles, hinges reisting as Lucifer’s protests grow increasingly less convincing.
“I’m--hhh! I’m fi--Ihh! Hii! XSH! Ehk’SHHh-HieWW!”
Yeah fucking right. Alastor better fucking get in there or Charlie will have a field day with rainbow sprinkles.
A flurry of sound, thudding and grunts of…is he in pain? God dammit! Miserablefuckingcocksuckingpieceof--
Finally the door wrenches open. Alastor wades inside and a wash of humid air hits his skin, making him cringe. Lucifer is bent over the white marble sink, heaps of tan paper towels littering the counter, some having fluttered around his feet dark and anointed with a glittering substance.
His face is currently wrapped in the crook of his elbow and his shoulders shudder with heaving breaths, “IX’SHWW! HF’pSHW!” His sleeve absorbs most of the sound but it still sounds truly dreadful, “Nghh…”
Alastor grumbles disapprovingly, “I am starting to suspect you’re lying, sir.”
Lucifer’s hat lies to the side, top down and limp, as well as his cane. A clawed hand grips the sawed edge of the counter, the King holding himself steady as he shakes with the effort of his labored breaths.
“I told you,” his voice is low and serious now, no hint of his playful kinder. “To stay. Out.” Something drips on the tile next to him. The same liquid Alastor saw before--raw, angelic blood.
“So you did take a blade.”
Lucifer growls, moving his hand to cover the wound, but all he ends up doing is smearing his clothes slick with the gleaming fluid.
Alastor tuts, “You should have told me, you know.” He sets his cane against the wall and moves closer to Lucifer, stretching his arm out toward the injured side.
Lucifer lashes out, grasping his wrist with his free hand, “Don’t.”
The Radio Demon pauses, staring into his haunted eyes.
“The blood will…affect you.”
“A-hah! You think I care?”
“I think you put yourself first. I think you’d love to see me wither here if it keeps your pompous ass safe.”
Alastor grimaces and yanks away from his weak grasp. In an electric snap, Lucifer’s shirt is bunched in his fist and he is pulling the King in close. He speaks in static, voice measured and quicksilver cruel.
“Your assumption that I have an agenda would be correct, m̴y̶ ̷͋K̸i̴ng̶̈͗. And it does not involve you dying.”
Lucifer’s chest inflates but he doesn’t retaliate.
Alastor releases Lucifer, features retracting with his mood. “Now, let’s see this wound.”
“There’s nothing you can do for it,” Lucifer mutters as he painfully shirks his jacket.
“Your capacity for being misguided is astounding,” Alastor drums his fingers on the counter, claws clacking. “Show me.”
The jacket falls to the floor and the wound is fully revealed: twin slashes crisscrossing his side, a glossy expanse of wounds just below his left rib.
“And these wounds cause you to…?”
Lucifer massages the circle of his cheek with a sigh, “I’m just…not handling it well.”
“You’re pushing yourself.”
“Not…not so much--I--” his face falls and air corckscrews through his teeth, “Ng-Eh’KPSH!! EiiSHH-iieuww!”
His wound flares bright with the gilded liquid and Alastor seals his lids against the blinding light.
“Alright,” Alastor moves closer, positioning himself to spread his hands above the slit of seeping light. Lucifer watches with interest as the Radio Demon’s eyes gleam black like the shells of tiny beetles. Runes pop and fizzle over the glowing shreds.
Lucifer’s eyes widen as he watches the runes morph and vellicate. “What magic--”
“Quiet.”
“But, those runes. I know--”
“I said silence٨ـ.”
“No, Alastor. Where the fuck--”
Alastor wrenches back, magic dissipating, but his eyes remain inky with rage. His fist slams against the wall, cracking a line in the frail plaster. “You and I both know your idiot act is just that! An act. You know exactly what I can do, so stay still and quit prattling.”
The lilies.
Lucifer’s lips guppy open and closed. “Your deal. It was…”
Alastor grunts, frustration rippling the bandwidth of his voice. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say you don’t want to be healed.”
He pushes his own sleeves up to the bend of his elbows, anchoring them to his forearms. Then, he pinches the hem of his pinstripe coat and tears it in a full around strip. His pupils float toward the King’s body, hesitant. Static clings to the air as he nears the wound.
Lucifer flinches instinctively. “I’m warning you, it will--”
“Affect me, yes yes. I’ve touched angel blood before.”
“I’m an archangel, Alastor.”
Alastor rolls his eyes. Will he just shut the fuck up already?
The Radio Demon presses the cloth against the holy wound, adhering it instantly. Lucifer’s skin is hot like a freshly lit fire. Alastor feels the effect of the pale poison straightaway. He clamps his jaw, brow creasing as his skin beads with sweat.
Lucifer winces, claws carving slits into the counter. As Alastor works the strip around his midsection, his teeth grind against the shudders of breath battling in his throat.
“Your hands are shaking.”
“Shut ũ̷̼͆̇͑̈̄́́̏̉̚̕͝͝ͅp̴̰̪͎̲̲̗͎͝. Alastor’s voice crackles.
Lucifer's lip wobbles. “Hvvv-nn!” a hiss of indrawn air.
“Don’t do that now.”
“It’s not my hhhih choice!”
“Can’t you just--”
“He-eih KSHHieeψ!” The filaments buzz within the light bulbs, flickering them into darkness and then back into squinting light. As Lucifer wracks forward, it jostles Alastor’s hands and breaches his careful conservation, smearing his wrists with gold.
He dips back, chin tilting as his throat buzzes with a snap of energy. “Hhh--ehhh-HH!”
“Dammit, Alastor--”
“Too late--hhh-for tha-HH٨ـZZT٨ـY!” He pushed his fist to his nose, using pressure against the damp rim of his nostrils to chase away the itch. Not to any measure of success. “HK! ﮩ٨ـﮩZZ!” A wail grates in Lucifer’s ear and he recoils.
“You’re making it worse,” Lucifer twists with a grunt, grabbing some of the towels to clean Alastor’s cheek.
“I don’t--hih-nn eed…”
“Heaven alive can we both stop with this cocky bullshit. Truce, okay? Or would you rather spend all day in here sneezing with me?”
R̷͕̪̤̈́̓r̸̳̻̕͠rg̵̡̞͊̔͝ẖ̷͉͋̐jh̵̜͇̦͐̉  Alastor saws at his face, each motion crackling with energy. “Very well, get it over hhhhﮩ٨ـﮩ-! With.”
Lucifer works with the towels to wipe away the smears while Alastor finishes knotting the makeshift bandage. Once they’re done they both pull back with twin sniffles and a bucket of awkwardness in the empty air.
Alastor shunts his gaze, ignoring the gnawing in his chest. Lucifer cleans up the scattered flaxen towels and starts burning them until their ashes film the ground. The scent of honey and seeded mulch fills the room, like no bonfire Alastor had ever attended.
Four papers remaining, Lucifer finally speaks.
“How do the humans handle it?”
Alastor knits his brow. “Handle what?”
“Losing. Over and over.”
Alastor’s lips press firm. “Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answers to.”
Lucifer finally looks at him then, his mouth a small circle. He doesn’t pursue. He flicks the last of the ash off his fingers and sucks in a breath.
“Well,” his orange eyes meet the Radio Demon’s, “shall we head back? Tell Charlie we had a…bonding exercise?”
Alastor laughs. It’s more real than he’d laughed in…ages. “Details aside?”
Lucifer offers a genuine, if modest smile. “Agreed.”

Everything but you
another fic for PriceRaven, BUT this is an art + fic combo fic :3 I'll do a separate post for just the art (or you can check out this clip i posted on twt), so for now, enjoy this mess
this fic is within PriceRaven's cannon timeline, somewhere after MW3 and during fishy arc
tags:
angst and fluff, hurt/comfort, slow burn, canon-typical violence and behavior, character study (done poorly), grief, major character death (MCD), mention of MW3 content, author trying to be poetic but most likely just messing up the narrative flow, miscommunication, happy ending
author's note:
word count: 6,048 (the back part is not proof read)
the italics are internal thoughts or third perspective thoughts
━━━━━━❆━━━━━━━ [this divider represent a time skip]
Tumblr media
Raven knew the possibility of Price having to leave for a period of time, and was fully aware of the escalation of things when the news of Makarov started popping up.
“To update you on the breaking news of a Russian passenger jet that crashed…”
“A hundred and thirty-three passengers and nine crew members were on board the flight…”
“Descending very rapidly…..unexplained descent…..”
“Kastovia flight 761 bound for sochi…”
“...just hours after a missile attack on Arklove Military Base…..looks to be a terrorist attack”
They both knew then, that this would be the beginning of a long separation.
A quick goodbye, a hug and a kiss.
A swift departure, leaving Raven to tend to their home with their two lovely cats, their girls, after the shit show that went down between Cobra and Vik.
Tumblr media
━━━━━━❆━━━━━━━
Months later, Price would return a changed man, sprawled on the front door and drenched by the rain, clutching onto Raven for dear life as he shakes.
She’d never seen this man in this state; never seen Price that would openly show his distress to this level.
She could deduce that the operations most likely did not go well, and something terrible must’ve happened.
The guess confirms itself in the form of a watch.
Soap’s watch. Resting on his desk.
And later, a conversation.
“We’ll have to abandon everything”
“The house, the plants, the cars-”
“The girls…”
There was a sense of urgency in his tone,  its timbre deepened and solemn since his return. A frown etched between his brows, accompanied by an increased consumption of cigars and even cigarettes.
━━━━━━❆━━━━━━━
“I tied one of many loose ends”
He murmured into her skin in the quiet of night where the world is asleep. Price returned hours ago, dressed in a dark overcoat and a beanie, with a handgun beneath his shirt.
“Did you now?”
Shepherd huh.
She whispered back, feeling his chin resting on her shoulder, his beard tickling her skin slightly, properly nestled in his arms, but there weren't the usual giggles and laughter that surrounded the two.
No, this was their last night on this bed, on this home.
Their last night in the comforts of their safe haven.
“Mm” He mumbled back, palms covering her arms as he hugged her closer, spooning her in his arms.
Nervous that somehow, she’ll slip away, taken away from his grasp.
“....” “Tell me, Pricey” She brushed his knuckles, easing his tension.
“Will you follow me still, Raven….? Even if we have to leave…” he trails off, leaving things unsaid.
She understood fully the gravity of the question. Even if we have to leave away our hopes and dreams, dreams of settling down, growing old peacefully, dreams of comfort and promises of the future.
“Where would I go if not with you, John?”
“...I don’t know, Singapore?”
“...and what does Singapore have to offer again?”
“Really good seafood”
“So you’re assuming I’ll pick seafood over you?”
“Well, I was hoping you don’t”
A small chuckle escapes her, which made him smile in return, some of the pressure and uneasiness dispersed from this exchange.
“I won’t leave you” She whispered back, holding his hand up to kiss his fingers. Bittersweet murmurs exchanged throughout the night that comforted the two.  “Alright then, Eira”
━━━━━━❆━━━━━━━
It was exhilarating and intense for Raven to get back on the field with Price, joined as an ally to provide much-needed support in the mess and development following the escape of Makarov from the Trojan Horse mission.
But they have to admit it was exhausting having to move constantly without a proper place to settle down.
Physically and mentally.
Which explains why they’re here now, on this island that Raven can only assume that it's a personal island owned by Price.
“You telling me you own this place?!”
“Ah well, I wouldn’t say “own”, birdie…”
She still doesn’t fully comprehend what he meant by that.
It was a much needed break, being surrounded by the ocean and forest, exploring the places, catching fishes and crabs.
Price hasn’t seen Raven smiled this much in a long time.
Raven witnessed a side of Price she had longed to see: relaxed, carefree, and at peace. Yet, beneath his newfound calmness, she sensed something off about Price that hinted at a deeper turmoil within him.
There were moments when he'd gaze into the distance, lost in thought, thinking.
Pondering.
This was, unfortunately, one of the many truths Raven had come to understand about Price.
More often or not that contemplative look of his means he is plotting or thinking ahead of things, which inherently, is not a bad thing.
It only became problematic when he kept these plans from her, setting things in motion without her knowledge.
Because that’s what Price does.
Plan, execute, reflect, repeat.
The other negative trait from this, is that it always means there is something he was harboring within that was threatening to break apart. Troubles he would rather deal with alone.
Things that slowly etched eats him out bit by bit on the inside.
Now, Price was a man of many many thoughts, meticulously organized into mental compartments, sealed, and cast into the abyss of the unknown.
A man who had no room for lingering emotions: guilt, anger, sadness – anything that could hinder his motives, his plans, his every step.
A man that is calm, quiet, composed and in control, with a constant battle inside he can never say or show.
Behind his eyes, Raven saw it all.
The ocean behind those eyes of his are no longer violent and roaring, similar to when they had to toss their belongings into a pool of fire after that last night in their home.
Freedom tastes like ash and anger after all.
His eyes are now shrouded in darkness, like the deep blue sea.
Suffering and screams muffled in silence.
Drowning.
━━━━━━❆━━━━━━━
“Up for a ride, birdie?”
“Sure”
It wasn’t uncommon for them to venture into the sea at night, they would drive out in their trusty lil boat (named Cash ‘n’ Fly) far enough until the horizon stretched endlessly, with a seamless line between the sea and the starry sky.
It creates an illusion of infinite space and solitude.
A small escape from everything.
What set this trip apart was the cigar hanging loosely between Price’s lips.
She counted the amount of cigar he used daily, and it was reduced to one or two per day during their break.
So to see him light it up, the fourth one of the day, right now, especially when it's dark and quiet, it could only mean one thing.
“You know…Eira”
And so it begins.
Tumblr media
Everything but you.
She had anticipated this conversation, in some form or another.
She didn’t know it would be…this.
Leaving me with the island? I’ll have everything?
And I am supposed to be content with this?
Tumblr media
Price was a hardened soldier, a veteran.
A seasoned Captain that has done enough chaos and has enough body piles up below him more than he could handle.
Battles stitched across his skin and back, hands coated in blood and regrets that clung onto his soul.
Far from a savior, close to a sinner.
Hands that were better suited for violence, instead of softness.
It should’ve been just another one of those moments, where he’d tell off some of his men, his soldiers, people who depended on him, boys and girls alike, to leave, to never come back.
To leave him.
So why is it so different when it comes to…the person before him now?
Why does this ache so differently?
Tumblr media
What Price has in mind, doesn’t quite align with what John wants.
Needs.
John craves for the simplicity of being loved. Yearns for warmth and understanding, desperate for someone to look into his eyes and see the real him.
John thinks about Eira, thinks about her, her hands, her voice, and he wants more, more and more, a beast that is never satisfied, that can never get enough.
John wants to drown in love. In her.
Price fears that John loves more than he is ever allowed to.
Price wants what is right.
It’s for the best.
The one sentence that helps justify everything, doesn’t it?
“....”
Price watches as she stood up abruptly after a long uncomfortable silence, seeing her approaching the bow of the boat-
“Raven?--”
A loud splash was heard, and his body moved before he could process anything.
“What the bloody hell are you doing?! Have you lost your mind?? RAVEN??”
Raven, out of all the possible reactions he has anticipated, does none of what he expected and dives into the black sea.
“I'm going back to land!” She yells back with a strain, huffing as she proceeds to swim to the general direction of where the shore was.
“That’s way too far!! You’ll freeze your arse before you could even reach it!!” “GOOD, I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO DIE IN THE OCEAN ANYWAYS”
“EIRA!!”
God dammit.
He quickly drove the boat, starting up the engine to propel the boat towards her, careful not to hit her as he quickly pulled her aboard.
“What–what are you trying to achieve by doing something stupid like this?”
“Nothing productive”
“Ei-”
He stops mid-sentence, seeing her freezing and trembling form, sea water coating her entire form as she shakes like a leaf on the wood.
For a split second, he wanted to ask if she cried, when he saw the red corners from her eyes.
Instead, he took off his jacket and outer shirt to wrap it around her.
The ride home was nothing but silence.
━━━━━━❆━━━━━━━
A letter and a necklace, that should be all.
Price thought to himself as he placed the necessary items on the table outside their room, with a heavy bag on his left as his thumb lingered on the necklace.
An owl head marble piece hangs at the end of it, an item he found comfort in whenever they were separated.
Not like it would be…of any use now.
He brushed it one last time, before heading out, leaving Raven behind.
At least, that’s what he intended to do, to leave behind the one person he had willingly, and stubbornly let into his life.
And now, he’s walking away like a mad man.
He sees Nik’s heli in the far distance, the sight both a relieving but solemn reminder of what is about to happen.
Usually, he wouldn’t think.
Just walk, it’s right there.
Yet, he stays rooted in the sand, as if waiting for a miracle.
“Is that it?!” A shout made him flinch slightly, turning around only to be completely knocked down into the sandy beach.
“You think you can throw me aside like a doll, a birdie with songs you’ve grown bored of, is it?”
“Wha-”
A loud clean slap, with the sting now buzzing on his left cheek as his eyes widened.
“You– you don’t get to decide what’s right for me”
“Listen here you– prick! Old geezer whatever the fuck you are right now-”
“You only get to choose me once, you either live with me forever, or we live our lives apart”
“Can you live your life without me?”
“Eira–”
“Don’t you dare say anything other than to answer my questions”
A long uncomfortable silence stretched between them, as Raven stayed straddling his chest as he lay against the sand that felt like it was burying him up.
It wasn’t when he felt the warm drops of tears on his cheek that his eyes truly met her.
“....do I mean nothing to you? Am i…just another pawn for you in the grand scheme of things? That could be abandoned once you’re done?”
“What happened to staying together through thick and thin? What about the vows you exchanged when you put this ring on my finger?”
More tears streamed down her face, hands shakily but tightly gripping his collar
“Answer me, coward”
That finally broke Price out of the trance as he quickly reached up to cup her face, brushing away the droplets of pain and sorrow that dampened her delicate face.
“I have to go…” “Why…? Just…just why?” “I wrote everything in the letter-” “I don’t care about the damn letter…tell me straight in the face”
“I can’t-” “John, please”
“I CAN’T LOSE ANOTHER ONE–”
Now it was Raven’s time to pause, a frown that formed for a split second before it softened.
“....” She sighs, letting go of his collar as she cradled his cheeks.
“....you know you won’t” “That’s what I said to him too…you know”
“....it wasn’t your fault”
“sunshine…I called him sunshine…Eira….I-”
“You didn’t know”
“I should’ve…”
His eyes glistened as vision blurred, the months of unshed grief escaping, cascading down to the sand.
Price never got to grieve, it swirls inside, a little bit like a black hole, like infinity.
A small part of him is lost with every soldier and civilian he loses.
And Soap took a big chunk of him, a good part perhaps, one of his– kinder shards.
Another, is stuck frozen in the moment, in the tunnel. No goodbye, just an absence, sudden, abrupt end, a gunshot louder than any screams that ensues.
Price tends to get rid of grief, one way or another, because it reminds him of his mistake, because it feels like he is holding onto a lost cause.
But here’s the thing about loss, grief is hanging onto love.
It is why it is always felt at all times.
Even on days where he thought he’d healed, while other days it was like old wounds opening up deeper than before.
There was not a day where he wouldn’t miss his favorite Scottish gremlin.
And if his absence was strong enough that it makes it hard to breathe, he could only imagine what it would be like if Eira’s gone as well.
“I can’t lose you”
There is no more desperate creature, than a human being on the verge of losing love.
She sighs, leaning down as she lays down next to him on the sand ungraciously, staring up the sky with him
“....leaving me alone here on this island doesn’t guarantee my safety either, you know that right?”
“I have my people watching you here…” “And a tsunami could come and drown us all”
“Well if that happens I would know-” “No, no you won’t”
She can tell he was about to argue as she shushes him gently, turning to face him, uncaring for the sharp sandy stones that scratched into her ear.
“You can’t always take the blame for things out of your control”
She murmured, holding his palm
“...and you can’t let your worry cloud your conscious and…do something stupid like this”
“Don’t push me away, when you’ve already made a place in my heart that will never be replaceable by anyone.”
“....you think this was dumber than you jumping into the ocean?”
“Absolutely” He chuckles lightly, raising a brow as he smiles.
“I don’t want to be…your regret, John” She whispered, voice breaking a little
“Even if we were not meant to be together…we’ve proved that idea wrong, time and time again…”
He shifted, sitting up slightly as he pulls her onto his lap, hands brushing away the sand on her hair slightly (failing, sands are stubborn lil shits) as he lets out a quiet sigh
“I dream of a time where…the universe was never wrong to begin with, and you’re mine to keep…forever”
“Well you ought to pick a better dream” She smiles, leaning up as she landed a small kiss on his nose
“This dream is already true, because Im yours forever, and ever”
“You are stuck with me, whether you like it or not”
“I suppose I am, aren't I…” “Absolutely…” He smiles, and hugged her tightly, everything about this felt neither wrong or right.
It felt like home.
“Now, are you going to continue mopping around in the sand or will Nik start throwing a tantrum when we get there? Last time he did he defied physics..."
“Im sure man’s busy with the coconuts and alcohol over there, plus we need to get your stuff–”
“It’s in your bag”
“my–what?”
He unzips the cover, and realize that somehow Eira’s sneaked her belongings inside
“No wonder it got heavier…” “Im telling you, you’re an idiot” He laughs slightly, ruffling her hair as they stood up, pulling her closer by the ends of her shirt as he kissed her forehead.
“Yes…but I’m your idiot…”

{drabble} I'm here - Akiho/Kaito
Alright, how do you do any of this...😂
I guess what you need to know it's that it is a Akiho x Kaito / YunaAki drabble, it's based on canon (set 3 weeks after the series ended), and it's based on the assumption that, differently from what the ENG translation said in ch. 80, in the JP Sakura affirmed that thanks to his stopped time Kaito wouldn't be hurting more than that...this means that his seizures would continue, just they wouldn't get worse than what we've seen till now.
This is mainly a hurt/comfort drabble, with glimpses of happiness. After all, Akiho is happy with him. And it's mainly a way for me to vent some complex feelings about the finale of Clear Card. I have a Kaito POV on the way (edit: here's the link, go read it after you finished this one!), but it's more difficult to write for him (and, uh, more depressing) so it'll come in the next days.
Easter egg: a line is a direct reference to the lyrics of Anata by Hikaru Utada. 😉
I'm not a native English speaker so forgive me if any line sounds weird!
Finally, I have to thank the "enabler" dandelion-stuff-and-fluff (not tagging in case you don't want to!) for giving immediately support to my whims! 😂
Excerpt:
I could feel the tears emerging, but I kicked all of them back, as I threw my 13-year-old self out of the window and summoned the part of me that helped me survive all these years. The resilient one.
Tumblr media
Akiho's POV
Three weeks had passed by, from that fateful night.
Most of our stuff was packed, and our days were spent between checking everything for the imminent departure and hanging out with Sakura-san and the rest of the group, making the most out of the remaining time. Everyone was so lovely to us, showing all the support we needed. I really felt like I had acquired a family in Tomoeda, and the thought of it made me incredibly happy.  I was going to miss them so much. Just like I would miss this big mansion full of memories.... and mysterious protective forces, apparently, as I was told by him.
Kaito-san revealed to me that when we came to Tomoeda almost one year prior, he had chosen this mansion specifically to protect me, as I was carrying a dangerous magical artifact that my own clan had engraved in me.  We talked quite a lot over the span of those three weeks, and swallowing the truth had been hard, at first.  But all of that was gone now and like waking up from a nightmare, the memories of it were getting more and more hazy as time went on. Only a permanent scar remained.
Both of us were in the kitchen, cooking dinner. The clang of kitchen utensils, the sizzle in the frying pan made me strangely happy. It sounded warm. It sounded normal. I love cooking with him. This was the corner of the house where we declared to each other how much we cherished one another, without even fully realizing it.
“Akiho-san, could you hand me the salt?”  “Here you go!” I said, smiling brightly at him.  He smiled back at me in that soft way that made my knees weak.  God, please, give me this for the rest of my life. Every day, immutably.
“Done! We’re ready.”  Removing our aprons, we were getting ready to bring everything to the table.
And then I saw it.
He stopped in his tracks, his complexion paling by the second.
Another one was coming.   My blood ran cold, and I rushed to the other side of the room, while he slowly crouched to the ground, out of breath, groaning in pain.   Each cry stabbed me in the chest like a knife. I could feel the tears emerging, but I kicked all of them back, as I threw my 13-year-old self out of the window and summoned the part of me that helped me survive all these years. The resilient one.   I hastily opened a cabinet and took out a finely decorated small box, toppling other items in the process. I didn't care.   Hiiragizawa-san had sent us, through a magic portal, a series of pills he made weaving a complex magic spell over them, to help Kaito-san cope with the seizures. He said they wouldn't do any miracle, but hopefully they could reduce the duration of the seizures and ease the pain a little bit. Cause the pain he was experiencing wasn’t caused by anything ordinary, and no ordinary medicine would’ve been effective.
I grabbed a towel, flung it over my shoulder and ran back to Kaito-san with a glass of water, spilling some of it in the process. I watched him as he struggled to swallow both the pill and the water.
How many times did he experience this excruciating pain, completely alone?   How many times did he force himself to not crumble down in front of me, to protect my peace of mind? Just thinking back to all the times I could feel something was not right, and how he tried to deceive me to keep dealing with it all alone.... it brought back in me an anger I didn't know what to do with.
Yes, I didn't get over it yet. The wound was still so fresh.  But we agreed that we would’ve dealt with this together, from now on.  ...And just like that, the fit of anger quickly vanished, as a gentle feeling got a hold of me, and I began unbuttoning the collar of his shirt to let him breath better, then dabbing his damp forehead with the towel.   "It's okay.... it's okay... I'm here" I whispered softly, like a lullaby.
As if surrendering himself to me, he held onto my arms and leaned over, trying to regain control of his breathing. I supported him, thanking in my head a hundred times that his time was halted. Yes, we were trying to look for a way to eventually make it flow again, but it was in moments like these that I remembered how numbing the fear to lose him again was.   I couldn't live with that. With that feeling of hollowness. Not again.
That's why, I said to myself, this time I would've done anything in my power to not lose him, come what may. I wouldn't have spared any effort. Losing him would’ve been a hundred times more devastating than the pain I was feeling in that moment, seeing him in those conditions. After all, he was feeling like that because of me.
“Momo...please give me strength”, I thought, missing my beloved bunny more than ever. Who knows how many times she had witnessed all of that, and how she dealt with it. I could’ve used some advice in that moment.
His ragged breath became more regular, the pill was starting to kick in. He raised his head and looked at me.   Those eyes I loved so much, now covered by a mysterious dark fog - a remnant of the dragon appearance, as they explained to me – seemed to regain finally focus.  His face was so close to mine. In another situation, in another more oblivious period, there’s no doubt my heart would've exploded from embarrassment, red in the face like a tomato. But right now, I was preoccupied with something completely different, as I looked at him holding nothing but worry and sadness in my eyes.
"I'm sorry...", he whispered.
I could feel my heart catching fire, and it reminded how much I love him, despite being so hurt by his reckless behavior.  But I didn't answer to his apology. Cause that wasn't what I wanted to hear from him.
Instead, I asked him “can you stand up?” and helped propping him up when he nodded. We proceeded slowly towards the couch in the living room, where I helped him lying down. Despite having tons of lovely memories here, this house was starting to be a bit too big for us and for emergencies of this kind.  Hiiragizawa-san's pills had a sedative that inevitably caused Kaito-san to fall asleep, to recuperate. He looked so exhausted.  I arranged some cushions on the ground and sat down beside the couch, watching him closing his eyes and drifting quickly into sleep. I moved some of his hair to the side and dabbed the towel over his forehead one more time.   Then I went back to stare at his peaceful face, lost in thought. Was I truly prepared for this, when I decided that the life I wanted was this one? Probably not.  Would I have chosen anything else? Absolutely not.  Being with him is my happiness, after all.

🎬: About Es being a past prisoner and the secret 11th prisoner in your AU. But advance apologies if I'm overstepping into your AU!
I had this idea from a story that pretty much did the same thing. Going off there are novels/manga on Milgram and there being another Es and their own prisoners running another Milgram (but differently) I imagine this Milgram projects has been going on for a while, and our Es was from a previous project who might have gotten the worst verdict (or the most spared out of everyone), and was given this final task as a warden for the next group of prisoners. This is why they so readily agreed and had their memories wiped for this Milgram project instead of being weary on a shady project on judging an almost crime, they've already been through this.
(BTW is it bad and worrying for one of our ten fav prisoners to be the next Es if this is legit...)
Anyway, that's why Es is in Milgram in your AU, I guess? And the lore drop that Kotoko picks up on them being the 11th prisoner, I can imagine her also talking to Kazui since he's a policeman to see if she could cross out any theories on who Es is (Did they look familiar. Possible missing child. Any cases to do with an almost crime by a child other than the 10 of them here). Kazui knows Kotoko wants to investigate, but reminds her that, like in their prison while the trial is on, the facilities they're in have high security too. They do have the freedom to move about, but still limited.
If they're trying to investigate Es, maybe Fuuta, Kotoko and Mikoto can try to do the hacking on the comp Mikoto's allowed to use to Photoshop some shots for the MVs and photos (Fuuta and Kotoko seem to be able to search up info they need I think...). Yuno, Mahiru and Muu can work on charming the staff to see if they can spill more deets on Milgram. Not sure how much the group can gather, but oh boy fun times in Milgram can turn into another sort of stress in this AU...
No worries!! Like I said before, this whole au has been a fun collaborative project, so there's no overstepping :) I am sorry I won't be writing a lot on the ending until we get more info, but that's just the perfectionist in me who doesn't want to be proven wrong 😅 Still, I love tossing around and digging into ending scenarios, I really love this!
Because that would make a lot of sense why they're so willing to subject themself to the whole experiment! They remember how tough their experience was, and are confident they can care for the new set of prisoners while doing their job. I'm imagining they get the opportunity to return as guard, and get to have a nice talk with their own guard first. Once they fully understand what it's like, they're know they can handle it and sign up. It adds a bit of drama, too, since they must have been really young committing their crime in order to complete a years-long experiment prior to this one. They would have been like 10? Oof. (Now I wanna see their three trial songs 👀)
And like you said, that also brings up the question of the new warden. Though I think it's based on verdict results, I can just picture Jackalope keeping an eye on everyone during filming. He studyies their interactions and personalities, keeping his own set of notes on who would make a good successor. (I'm not going to go through every character but there are pros to any choice, it's very fun picturing them all taking the job.) Haha, on the other hand, maybe the reason Kotoko keeps bringing up her role as Es' partner/bringer of justice is because she did discover the truth. She drops as many hints as possible so she can be chosen next 😅
Ooh, I love her working with Kazui on an investigation! The fact that eh may know details on recent crimes (and almost-crimes) is super fun to work with. He's the last person who's going to spill a secret, so the group could go several trials without realizing Kazui had actually heard all about their situation this whole time.
(Getting sidetrack for a sec, I'm suddenly realizing that he and Kotoko may have heard things about the crimes in canon, too. They're a bit unclear about how much time passed between the murders and arriving to Milgram, so maybe he heard some things. I don't know how well-connected Tokyo police departments are, but Yuno, Fuuta, Muu, and Shidou are all nearby. There's definitely a chance he caught word of the vigilante nearby, and she heard about the odd policeman's suicide. Both of them could have heard about the tragic housefire, the disgraced doctor, or horrible schoolgirl murder nearby.)
Anyway, I like that idea of Kazui wracking his brain for any similar cases. Though, if he had, Milgram may have had the foresight to wipe parts of his memory, too. Maybe he does end up using his call to reach out to Hinako and have her look into it from the outside. Sadly, Kotoko seems the type to sacrifice her personal call to reach out to a connection who can help as well. I'll have to think about how closely Jackalope monitors those calls, hm.
I'm going crazy over prisoner investigation team !! Kotoko and Fuuta had the online knowledge to find some good info, and Mikoto and Kazui seem like they'd have a huge network of people they can ask for info and favors from. Haha, I'm torn whether Mahiru would have flirting down to a science or if she'd refuse to do it since it wasn't real love 😂 Still, she's very good at reading people and could definitely help the others charm and bribe their way into some restricted areas. Amane and Haruka can also charm with their innocence/cuteness (though I'm not sure Amane would). Shidou seems very organized, he'd have a plan and backup plan and backup-backup plan ready, no matter what happens. I think it's even funnier, then if Milgram had run several experiments prior. Jackalope would think this was just another runthrough, and for the first time the ten subjects decided to organize together and Cause Problems.
I think there's a beautiful irony in a story featuring ten prisoners planning a jailbreak to save the prison guard...

It's warm in Soulfire's underground base, no matter how cold the surface is. There's lava below the earth and fires burning in the corners, their little patch of greenery and safety in the burning wastes of purgatory.
Pac sits between Forever and Mike, a bowl of melted ice on his lap. He swaps the rags on their foreheads for fresh ones, and looks over the group - so many of their team have fallen sick, the frozen outsides coming to spite them. Somehow, Pac has avoided it; Fit has as well, and Bad is pretending not to be suffering for the sake of morale. Tubbo worked through the worst of it and is nearly back to full form, Bagi is just starting to come down with it in turn...
Tina fell sick most recently, caring for everyone else both taking its toll and exposing her. Pac wonders if he'll follow her soon - and if he does, if Fit will catch him when he falls.
ElQuackity he isn't sure about, the man having already left before everyone else woke up.
Luzu (Arin) vanished a few days in, and nobody knows what happened to him at all.
"Will you be alright?" Bagi asks, eyes checking him over.
"Yes," Pac nods as he says it. "You go to the meeting; I'll look after them."
"You sure, king?" it's Tubbo asking. "You don't need someone else to stay too?"
"The eye said everyone available," Fit points out. "Even leaving Pac is pushing it; and if we disobey..."
It doesn't really bare thinking about; Pac smiles at them, "go get this all sorted. Good luck, Tubbo, I hope you win and save the eggs."
Pac knows Richarlyson is as safe as possible - Cellbit is awake and on their opposition, and, for all his recent crimes, will save their son if there is any chance, plus Philza will account for Felps (he hopes, if only because Philza will be praying Missa is counted by Soulfire). And even if three are in fever dreams and Pac himself is caring for them, he trusts Tubbo to remember how many of the boy's fathers had his back.
It's Dapper, and Ramon, and Leo, and Chayanne and Tallulah, that people are really fighting over.
"Tell me if anything happens?" Pac asks.
"Of course," Fit promises first.
"We need to head out," Tubbo says, checking his comms. "You shouldn't have trouble, but call if you do?"
"We'll come straight back," Bagi promises. "Just stay safe, okay? Even if they break the truce, they've never hurt the sick before - just hide."
"I know," Pac... trusts the enemy just enough to know only he is in any danger. "You should go."
"Later!" Tubbo calls, and the rest also make their farewells. It's Fit who lingers longest, saying nothing else but meeting Pac's eyes.
Pac wants to reach out and squeeze his hands for reassurance, for safety, for protection - instead he wrings out another cloth, and leans over to wipe down Mike's face.
By the time he swaps to Forever, the others are gone; he's careful they don't see the strange nether-marks on Forever's cheek. Those seem to come with their own sickness, for Forever's fever sits deeper than the rest, his sleep more restless, his dreams more terrifying and more desperate. Pac soothes what he can, and then stands.
He doesn't want to, but there are more than just his two fellow Brazilians to attend.
Tina did so well keeping the group together, but suffers so much now - he redoes the braids keeping her hair from her face, a little confused Bagi did not do it before leaving. Rivers is half-awake when he gets to her, so he gives her some painkillers and a glass of water to help.
They're taken without complaint, and Pac is pretty sure that means it's bad.
Pol and Lenay, Mariana and Pierre, Kameto and Niki and Missa - the last is hard, because Pac knows he shouldn't remove his mask. Rather than intrude on privacy he does as Tina did, and tucks the cloth behind his neck instead.
He checks on everyone, before quickly stepping outside. He collects more water, sees the burning red sky, and quickly flees back inside.
Unless something changes, they'll be alright for a little while; Pac still sits himself between Mike and Forever, one hand clinging to each of them.
Mike was in the hospital even before they were all dragged out here, thrown into purgatory unconscious and having not woken up since. Forever... Was doing better at the start, but the burning heat of sickness has been building all these two weeks.
Pac just prays that, after whatever meeting the eye summoned them for, everyone can go home. The island is terrible, but at least there's medicine and beds and no worries your neighbours will come murder you in your sleep because a great Eye has stated that you kill or your children die.
Just a few hours more, and they can get everyone proper medicine. And beds. And they can find out if the reason he hasn't seen Felps all week - and so many others - is also sickness and being hidden away to recover, or something else.
A few more hours, and everyone will be safe. Just a few more hours to hold on - Pac clings to his friends and promises himself its just a few hours more.

Made a little fanfic about how Heavy and Medic's first interaction in my TF2 x Beastars AU went down.
If you don't know what Beastars is, I recommend watching at least a little of the anime to get a feel for it (tho' some of the things I mention in the fic will reference certain things that's shown in season 2, so be warned ig). It's on Netflix, but you can also just pirate it if you don't have a subscription. You didn't hear it from me tho' :)
Anyways, onto the fanfic below the keep reading line. It's over 3k words long, and 'cause of that (and how I don't have an a03 account), I'll just use pics instead for what I wrote in order to not go over the character limit :]
