Kooleen back at it again with being the worst person ever.
Just uploaded a video were she "Yassifys" storytime YouTubers where she called Jaiden Animations, an AroAce person who has publicly stated that she doesn't like being sexualized and has been open about there struggles with body dsymorphia, a "goth mommy."
Like come the fuck on girl these are real people, hyper-sexualizing them and making them into basic ass Eurocentric white people isn't the slay you think it is.

SPREAD THE WORD! YOUTUBE ARTIST KOOLEEN IS RACIST!
TW: Racism/ Anti-blackness
Tumblr media
Kooleen's a large artist that mainly makes tutorials of sorts. Her art shows large anime inspiration and she often fixes/roasts her fans' works.
But then, she tried roasting art of black characters and showed she's a blatant racist. Rin's video below contains all the proof, go give it a watch when you can.
youtube
I'll list the biggest points below:
-The thumbnail is not clickbait, Kooleen referred to black features as 'gorilla looking' while using them as an example of 'how not' to draw faces
-Kooleen 'fixed' a side profile of a painted black woman by pushing her chin and mouth inwards, also known as whitewashing
-And Kooleen mocked baby hairs on yet another drawing of a black girl, referring to them as 'eyebrows'
Kooleen is hateful: no amount of ignorance can excuse the use of phrases like 'gorilla looking'. And if Kooleen isn't going to learn how to draw black people, then she shouldn't teaching her 2 million subs how to draw black people PERIOD.

Okay so I was very 😐 about Kooleen until recently because for me it was easy to tell that her content was satire and people can draw how they want until it reaches the point of being actually offensive
Tumblr media
"I was genuinely not referring to any race" was kind of a crazy thing to say?
She said it like she's never seen a black person before because who calls edges "eyebrows" even if you don't know what they are. You know that there are things that you can't say involving appearances when it comes to race because that's the whole point of racism in the first place, to insult the appearance of those who are a certain appearance and then bring them down for it. Insulting black features does in fact make what you said racist!
Yes, people can ask for their art to be critiqued and made fun of. No, making fun of black appearances isn't funny because that's reality! It's not something that is made up for art, but something that people have to live with everyday, and you saying things like "there's only one way to draw a side profile and doing it any other way makes someone have monkey-like features" (summarized) means that you haven't bothered looking at references for other races, but you're also just blatantly incorrect and feeding young artists racist information.
I won't touch on her lack of diversity in her art because it's her art, some people struggle with certain things but don't feed your lack of knowledge to other people and act like you're well-versed in these types of things when you aren't. At least be a decent human being and say "hey, I'm not this skilled at drawing [insert thing]" and cover what you do know how to draw well

Kooleen rant from a Filipino artist
When I first heard kooleen (before side profile drama) about her slandering other artist's art instead of humble constructive criticism, I will not support her and her egoistic bigotry
When I find out that she's Filipino as I was, I feel ashamed myself as a Filipino artist on how terrible person she was and disgrace to Filipino art community. I need a good artist to follow who we're like me, a Filipino artist
Kooleen is comes out as colorist and fatphobic, she didn't realize that colorism and beauty standards are problematic there in the Philippines as other many countries
The ignorance and lack of self awareness she have is how absolutely close minded she was
I heard a rumor that she's studying nursing, interesting that she's one of those high school bullies went into nursing pipeline right?
Kooleen Hun, you disgrace to young Filipino artists like me, not just Filipino artists but disgrace to the entire art community on how egoistic you are
There are lot of talented Filipino artists who are better to follow than Kooleen

News flash-
Sometimes art is stylistically ‘ugly’, sometimes characters have funky proportions or crooked noses or weird colour schemes. Lots of it is intentional and pointing it out and being rude is both unnecessary and demeaning. It implies the artist is inherently unaware of what they’re doing, which isn’t always true.
(Also! critiquing art shouldn’t mean making the character conventionally attractive, it should be fixing actual anatomy problems)

Have she LOST her mind when she "YASSIFIED" Jaiden and made sexualized comments bout her, she's REAL person not FICTIONAL character the fuck??? She stated so many TIMES that she's uncomfortable with sexualized comments but Kooleen is like "ooh la la to unleash her-" she breaks/disrespects Jaiden's boundaries.

I just want to rant for a sec so ignore if you’re not interested/know about the Kooleen drama since I haven't seen a lot of people talk about it.
As an artist, I can’t comprehend not understanding black/poc features, ESPECIALLY if you are someone giving out tutorials online to new and impressionable young artists.
If you aren't aware of the Kooleen drama, essentially, she made a side profile tutorial where she called a profile with protruding lips and chin (a feature common in poc) "gorilla looking." After that video, people found a clip of her "criticizing" a drawing of a black girl with the same features claiming it looked "goofy" before using the liquify tool to "yassify" it. In the same video she referred to edges as second eyebrows.
Now, this has a lot of implications, but at the end of the day, all of these can be chalked up to racism. I'm tired of people trying to defend her by saying "oh she's just ignorant." OKAY? AND? If you're an artist giving out tutorials, you have to be knowledgeable about different, non-Eurocentric features, and can't just go around erasing them because you view them as "goofy."
It doesn't help that Kooleen claims to only draw "pretty" people because she knows that it will get her attention on the internet, leading her to get more money. This by itself is fine, but then you notice she literally just doesn't draw black people. Like at all. You can go on her Instagram and look at all her art and I think the darkest character she drew is Miguel O'hara, not before de-aging him of course. Like I get wanting to draw people you find attractive, I believe all forms of art is wish fulfillment, but to only draw Eurocentric white and Asian people is insane.
And if you come at my trying to defend her by saying she was "doing an anime side profile tutorial." or "it's just her style." Then you're stupid. This isn't 2016, you can draw black people/poc in the anime art style without taking away ethnic features. And if your art style prevents you from drawing a wide range of people, including poc, fat people, disabled people, or anything else, then YOU'RE A BAD ARTIST.
This is all to say without even mentioning her art style which, while isn't bad, it's what I would call "safe." Her art is designed in a way that appeals to young artists, and her tutorials do the same. It's why her tutorials very rarely go over 10 minutes, because she isn't actually trying to teach you how to improve YOUR art, she's teaching you how to draw in her "juicy" style. It's very clear at least to me that she doesn't actually understand concepts like anatomy and face structure, just the basic ways of drawing them to make her characters look as visually appealing as possible.
Overall, I'm just disappointed with the amount of racism in art communities. If you are someone who likes Kooleen or are simply an artist looking for tutorials online, please look for tutorials that actually teach you how to understand what you are trying to learn. I'm tired of this trend of art tutorials that are 20 seconds long that don't teach you anything other than how to draw a basic looking eye as quickly as possible. If you really want to learn, look up references of real people, not quick and easy tutorials. Look at yourself in a mirror rather than watch a video on how to draw a pretty anime girl. Watch a video of someone explaining the basics to you rather than refusing to learn.
And please, I implore you to draw things out of your comfort zone. If you're just drawing for fun, okay, whatever. But if you're serious on improving, only drawing skinny white people is going to get you nowhere. You can't improve by staying in the same place forever.
Also, if you genuinely believe that Kooleen did nothing wrong please explain, I would love to have a discussion with you as long as you're not rude.

I know this happened a long ass time ago but Kooleen changing the appearance/sexualizing someone who has body dysmorphia is disgusting. Jaiden literally hid her face for years in fear of this happening like wtf
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also I’m not Asian so correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t she just remove all of Jaiden’s Asian features?

Sorry to bring up old news but what happened to samdoesart and kooleen? ←doesnt have tiktok
sorry it’s really late and I don’t want to make you wait over like 12 hours so sorry if this is hard to understand that’s on my part but BASICALLY:
recently samdoesart posted a draw of tlou featuring Ellie and Joel. Which was:
Tumblr media
A LOT of people got mad (rightfully so imo) because of how Ellie was drawn. He then went on to Twitter to say “he only draws faces he finds attractive as a straight man” which is why he always draws females with the exact same face. Which got people rightfully even more upset because A) Ellie is FOURTEEN!!! And B) the actor who plays Ellie (Bella Ramsey) is non-binary. So he’s in some hot water for basically p*do shit and misogyny
Kooleen. Ugh. God I hate her fjdndnd. She also has the same issues that Sam does with the “attractive” same face syndrome faces. She also posted a YouTube clip of her drawing Anya from soy x family and commented Anyussy…which if you know what -ussy adds to stuff then 😬.
They also both just give like really shitty advice that can be a little misogynistic fatphobic and racist if you look closely enough and focusing on “fixing” / “yassifyibg” (<- barf ) other peoples art to look exactly like their cookie cutter bland ass art style.
Overall pretty shitty people who are in it for the money (<- kooleen at least) and bad vibes all around

Practicing women of colour after learning of the Kooleen drama. Let’s get something straight:
1. no art style in the world is “unable” to represent any and all ethnicities unless you absolutely insist on same-face-syndrome.
2. your pastel colour palette is not “incompatible with Black characters”. Lots of Black girls love pastel fashion, and phenotype isn’t just colour.
3. “incorrect facial proportions” aren’t a thing. The triangle method is BS. Rihanna’s lips and chin stick out further than her nose, are you gonna tell her she’s anatomically incorrect..? God damn she’s gorgeous!
4. “but my aesthetic” just say you think certain ethnic features are ugly and go. You can draw whatever I want, but don’t “fix” ethnic faces using your racist little triangle or whatever. Alba Flores’ nose is perfect the way it is. Draw it like that or draw someone else.
