Does anyone know any good tutorials on how to colour characters with dark skin?
Like, just a few shades lighter than black, kind of dark.
My preferred style is very comic-esque black linework with cell shading - so it's very easy for details to get lost. It's also hard for me to translate things like undertones, from real life references into flat colouring.
Also anything on colouring lips (any skintone honestly). Since they're part of a character's face and thus stick out very obviously when you do them wrong.

Practicing women of colour after learning of the Kooleen drama. Let’s get something straight:
1. no art style in the world is “unable” to represent any and all ethnicities unless you absolutely insist on same-face-syndrome.
2. your pastel colour palette is not “incompatible with Black characters”. Lots of Black girls love pastel fashion, and phenotype isn’t just colour.
3. “incorrect facial proportions” aren’t a thing. The triangle method is BS. Rihanna’s lips and chin stick out further than her nose, are you gonna tell her she’s anatomically incorrect..? God damn she’s gorgeous!
4. “but my aesthetic” just say you think certain ethnic features are ugly and go. You can draw whatever I want, but don’t “fix” ethnic faces using your racist little triangle or whatever. Alba Flores’ nose is perfect the way it is. Draw it like that or draw someone else.

Me, who does art sometimes : and so this tutorial was very interesting, taught me a lot about drawing black people better, like the hand trick about the nails.
My black friend : what hand trick?!
Me : how the lighter part of the palm comes up to the base of the nails, and not the bottom of it like you pressed your hand in white paint.
My black friend, 28yo, looking at her hands in horror and fascination : oh shit!

"but that's a black-and-white sketch..." bitch if you have shaded their hair and their clothes you sure as hell can shade their skin. Don't leave it white, coz that ain't their color!

I wanna leave a few words of thoughts here. My love for art started with Anime and manga 16 years ago. I've been drawing and improving a lot during this time. But most of the time anime characters have white skin and stylized asian/eurocentric facial features, so I didn't draw people of color for the longest time. But that didn't sit right with me anymore especially after starting to work at a primary school with high cultural variety. So I tried and designed PoC-Characters and while I hold all of them very dear, something always seemed off.
The Racism-Triangle shed light into my darkness. Or rather the videos of SamDoesArt and Ethan Becker that concentrated on anti-racistic inclusive approaches for that matter. Because up until now all my PoC-Characters looked like eurocentric people with a dark tan slapped onto them.
To change this I started with this sketch page. The first three heads, are the way I usually draw in different perspectives. Now the reaction tutorials based on the racism triangle are always referring to the side view of the face. But I wanted to be able to draw people of color in my style in different angles. So I started to ask myself what happens in the other perpectives, If I draw those facial features. I wanna say beforehand, that I didn't use References for this, so I could see, where my starting point is on the subject matter. For the following practice sessions I will use references to improve my skill on drawing different people and as soon as I am confident in my skills, my PoC-Characters will get a massive overhaul.
I appreciate any sort of constructive feedback on this practicing session!
