Una barca rovesciata nella Darsena a Milano, con la scritta "Strage di Lampedusa 3 ottobre 2013".

Intorno braccia e mani che affiorano alla ricerca disperata di aiuto mentre affogano, circondate da crisantemi bianchi che galleggiano.

E' l'installazione shock, che ricorda la la "strage del mare" del 3 ottobre 2013, quando un peschereccio proveniente dalla Libia si rovesciò davanti alle coste di Lampedusa provocando 368 morti, di cui 83 donne e 9 minori. L'opera è stata voluta dal Municipio 6 di Milano.

Contrary to what you might imagine, there is no trace of rabbits on this small piece of rocky, wild land. It is much easier, however, to come across a specimen of Caretta Caretta turtle laying its eggs on the adjacent beach, which has been given the name Spiaggia dei Conigli (Rabbit Beach)🏖️, one of the last nesting sites chosen by this rare and friendly reptile. 🐢

Apart from the name, this dream place is a triumph of nature’s magnificence, with its beautiful beach and the incredibly transparent blue of the sea, which becomes a natural pool.

Unpopular opinion, maybe, but the situation at Lampedusa is completely unsustainable. The island has a polulation of around 6.000 people. In the last 48 hours, around 7.000 migrants arrived at Lampedusa. No one has a solution to this. EU-countries are definitely not eager to take in the migrants, and I feel like Italy is left alone to face this problem.

EU needs to get its shit together, and find a solution. Or else the tensions will continue to rise, and far-right nutcases will use this crisis to spread fear and conspiracies and win more votes.

There is no fucking way 8500 (probably more) migrants just showed up in Lampedusa on 120 boats and this wasn’t a coordinated action.

Don’t tell me that Italy, France, the EU and Frontex didn’t know about this. So why the fuck are these boats even allowed in Italian waters. Why are they not sent back? Why is there no military blockade around Lampedusa? We saw it with the covid crisis: if you want to close EU borders it is completely possible and totally feasible.

But European governments want migrants, for economic and political reasons. And fuck EU citizens who disagree. We don’t get a say.

This is all happening just as Von Der Leyen is campaigning for a new mandate as the head of the European Commission. This can’t be a coincidence.
