Likes don’t increase visibility to others! Please reblog this to spread the word!
I think Werewolf is an inherently queer medium
This is all a part of a larger long-term project.
I am trying to hold the World of Darkness to higher standards of inclusivity.
Tumblr media
Book 1: Cliath
Meet The Gaians — a chosen people blessed by Gaia of whom among them there are heroes who are born, blessed with the power to Change. They have been charged with the duty of protecting her and her brood, and among them are fellowships from every culture. They are largely comprised of Kinfolk. Vanguards of the earth, they follow the Codes and Creeds of renown in chiminage to the spirits in exchange for favor, protection, and power to strengthen their Fellowships and they form one of several primary factions.
A small number of Gaia’s chosen have been gifted the ability to shapeshift through either bite or birth into animals; warriors joining the fight against the Wyrm. The Gaians have many secret names for these shapeshifters between their cultures, and they range across many animal species and tribes, but the most common among them in these times are Garou.
This sourcebook includes information on First Changes, Rites of Passage, how people become werewolves, and what they're fighting for. Book 1 is effectively a players guide, including enough comprehensive character creation rules for people to create rank 1 Garou.
The World of Darkness is implied to exist just beneath a facade that all others take for granted as simply being a world gone wrong. When the Change happens to a Garou, human or otherwise, the world they once knew ceases to be. The Apocalypse is said to be something happening to everything, everywhere, simultaneously, and on every level. This transcends the concept of everything succumbing to a singular event but many small ones.
In many ways, the Garou themselves are emblematic of this Apocalypse, with these former lives ending and sweeping the cub into something far bigger than themselves. A Call To Action is the theme of Book 1.
Book 1: Cliath goes into warborn, bitten, wolf-born, and human-born lives leading up to the change. It presents a curated depiction of the Garou from the perspective of those who would mentor them. There are not a lot of conflicts, profound lore, or politics so much as 'this is what we are, this is what we do.' Functionally, this can be considered a Players’ Guide, containing your attributes, abilities, advantages, and Merits and Flaws. Gifts and rites will be truncated to rank 1 for the most part. Guidelines for new STs will be found here, including enough powers and enemy stats to keep their troupe of players on their toes. This will also include things like chargen and descriptions of attributes, abilities, and advantages. This will also have many details on packs and the importance of one's packmates. And what better way to introduce new players than to have it happen in an all-new setting for storytellers to introduce their players to the game: the first three chapters of Dead Mountain!
Dead Mountain isn't going anywhere. In fact, it will be used as the foundation for this series. Already-finished parts of the Dead Mountain will be released over the next few months, and a delayed release of the full chronicle will come next spring. The scope of Werewolf: the Essentials will strongly diverge from past game traditions. In past core books and settings, there was an intent to showcase the world at large, written from the perspective of people who had never been to these places. In the end, many details were laughably wrong or mediocre representations that didn’t appeal to the groups they represented. We want the World of Darkness to be HUGE. So, we will be laser-focusing this project to represent the Garou from the Pacific Northwest as an example, with guidelines on how to make your own World of Darkness at your locale HUGE too!
CALLING ALL CHARACHS!
We cannot make this happen without your help.  We are putting out the call for folx from all parts of the queer, lesbian, trans, bisexual, gay, and asexual werewolf fandom looking to help make this the best possible release we can:
Artists
Horror writers
Editors
Consultants
Hype Wolves to help spread the word
Indie TTRPG creators
Working together, we can create a game that is fun, engaging, and genuinely representative of the diverse community of players and fans who love Werewolf. To help us out, click here We look forward to providing you future updates!
UPDATE: Our team has grown huge, and we're grateful to the fandom for rising up and howling with us! We received far more applications than we were able to fully process, but we promise to deliver you the best possible Sourcebook anthology we can! Meet the Writing Team Meet the Art Team Follow our official account for future announcements! To check out a book preview and help us hire cultural consultants click here
Social Media Shout-out! I offer my thanks to @peltofash and @a-boros-named-seamus for supporting me on the Adren and Athro tiers! Your contributions are directly helping make this game more inclusive!

Death Becomes Us
Part 9: Heads Will Roll
vampire!eddie x supernatural!reader
MASTERLIST PLAYLIST
18+ONLY, vampires, werewolves, mention of witches and ghouls, a pet demobat, a car accident, no smut in this, but definitely next chapter (the kind of non-dream vampire sex you've been so patiently waiting for), reader is taken.
summary: There's a new monster in town, and you are their target. An unlikely trio decides to join forces to get you back. The character Jareth in this is meant to be Jamie Campbell Bower.
word count: 3.6k
author's note: I almost put this on hiatus, but I need to find out how it ends, for my sanity, and I would be more than pleased if some of you wanted to ride it out with me, only a bit more to go. This is not as long as I initially intended, but the next part needs to be all one piece, so I had to split it up. Much love, hope you enjoy.
This chapter takes place right where part 8 left off
“Excuse me?” You balked, looking Jareth up and down there in the alleyway behind Main Vein. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”
Who did he think he was?
A thousand year old vampire, probably.  Stronger and faster than Eddie or any vampire you’d met so far.
Jareth smoothed a thick strand of blonde hair behind his ear.  “That’s the problem you see. I wasn’t asking.”
A fog settled in among the cold, winter darkness, crowding in like doom.  Your eyes darted from side to side, trying to understand what you were up against.  Was Jareth alone? Where were those finicky “powers” when you needed them? Even if the superhuman strength you’d been touched with made an appearance, could you take on a vampire?
Did you have a choice?
But then, a wave of fear burned like thorns in your chest and your voice cracked.  “Is Eddie okay?  Did something happen to—-?”
The smile that spread across Jareth’s face was condescending.  “No harm has befallen your trailer park Romeo.  Not at my hand, for that matter.”
Not sure how to feel about that answer, you adjusted your bag on your shoulder and took the first step away from him, on the way to your hearse.
“Tsktsk,” he had black gloves on to match his long, leather coat.  “Now, I don’t want to take you by force, but I will if you give me no choice.”
You met his eyes with a defiant softness that made him realize, not for the first time, why Munson was clearly so enamored with you. “Are you going to kill me?”
“Truthfully, I haven’t decided what to do with you yet,” he wet his top lip with the tip of his tongue, making eyes at the blood pumping in your throat.  “But I wouldn’t mind a taste.”
You shrugged away from him. “Why should I go with you?”
“Because I said so,” he arched his brows, and then leaned forward. “And because I’ve had word that there’s a Ghoul in town looking for you.  I’m only interested in your safety.”
You glared at him.  “You’re only interested in yourself.”
“Feisty, I like it. Now, come on, this way,” he inclined his head.
You took a few steps and then stopped short.  “Wait, a ghoul?”
“Servants to the regional monster government, yes,” he said, like everyone should know that already.
You thought about Steve, waiting for you at the bookstore.  You thought about Bela waiting for you to let her out for her nightly fly.
“How long will I be gone?”
“Until my people can figure out what the ghoul wants from you.”
“Why are you protecting me?” You shuffled in front of him.
Jareth sniffed, unable to meet your gaze.  “On that note, I am not entirely sure,” he stepped a bit closer then, making you shuffle a step back.  “Call it curiosity, perhaps. You fascinate me, and very little keeps my interest these days.”
When his stare finally locked onto yours, you tried not to show fear under the laser focus of his natural intensity.
You slipped into the passenger seat of his Porsche, smelling the leather and expensive cologne, and waited for him to get in beside you.  Just as he was about to start the engine, there was a loud bang and crash from above, like something heavy dropped hard and fast onto the roof of his car.
You couldn’t help the scream you let out, peeking up to see that there was, indeed, a dent caving in the metal as if a boulder had crashed into it. A figure leapt to the ground, landing in a crouch between the headlights.
Jareth’s lips peeled away from his teeth with a growl at the sight of Eddie standing there.
Eddie swiped his hair away from his face, expresion softening when he locked eyes with you. He cocked his head and mouthed the question, “are you okay?”
You were just about to click your seatbelt on, but you threw it off with a thwack against the window and stepped out of the vehicle, ignoring Jareth’s protests.
Eddie’s mind raced. He’d been wanting to talk to you about the not so subtle layers of vampire etiquette, but the time was never right.  Then he was parking another stolen car in the bay at the chop shop and he’d felt your discomfort, the spike in your adrenaline.  Without any vampire claim on you, your blood and your body were fair game to others.  If he could make the claim that you were his, the rest of them would have to stay away.  Even the older, stronger ones like Jareth.
Eddie went around to your side of the Porsche and met you there, searching your face to see if you’d been hurt.
“Where did you…how did you?” You stammered.
He came to your side, so close that his hand brushed the back of yours.  He was breathing heavily, staring at your lips, aching to touch your cheek, to kiss you.
Jareth slammed his car door. “You’re going to pay for the repair, Munson,” he sneered, taking stock of the obvious dent made from his landing.
Eddie licked his lips and moved his jaw as if he were about to say something to you, but then his face tensed when he turned to Jareth.
“You need to know that she is mine,” his throat dried up when he caught the side glance of your head swiveling to get a better look at the words that were coming out of his mouth. Fully expecting to have you cut him off and disagree, he continued.  “I claim her as my mate.”
Your first urge was to challenge the sentiment, but Eddie pinched the side of your hand and pulsed there a few times to let you in on his intentions.
“Is this true?” Jareth’s stare bore into you.
You decided to trust your friendly neighbor. “Um, yes, I’m with him,” you were sure that any and all lies would be instantly detected, but the truth was, you didn’t mind saying it.
“Well, that is unfortunate,” Jareth cleared his throat. “Nevertheless, I advise you to come with me.”
“What’s going on?” Eddie took his chance and snatched your hand in his.  You liked the feel of it, so you let him. “Where are you taking her?”
Jareth’s eyelids fluttered as if he were bored to death. “If you must know, there is a Ghoul named Brenner in town who's been asking questions about your…mate.” He bit the final word out sarcastically.
At the mention of Brenner’s name, Eddie stiffened. It was familiar to him, more familiar than he wanted to admit. He shifted uneasily to interlace his fingers with yours.
“And a witch, a very powerful one,” Jareth confirmed.  “Possibly even a necromancer.”
You weren’t certain what that meant, but realization seemed to dawn on Eddie’s face.
You turned to get a good look at Eddie, to search his eyes as if he had the perfect answer for how you should answer that, but his milk chocolate orbs only mirrored your search for answers.
There was also something else behind his eyes, a type of silent pleading that you couldn’t put your finger on.
The truth was, you had no idea you were special.  Not even after that day back in your hometown when you were able to push a man out of the way and stop a moving truck with your bare hands so that it would not crush the both of you.  He’d been going way too fast, about to run a stop sign.  The driver told people your eyes were all white, void of iris or pupil, and there were two indentations left in the metal grill where your hands had been.
Your father had not explained the weight of your new gifts before he passed.  You liked to think that he hadn’t known, how could he?
While you’d stood there talking, the fog had grown more substantial, it had weight and texture, so much so that you had to squint to see Jareth on the other side of the car.
“Wait,” Jareth held his hand up, squinting into the haze around him.  “Did you hear that?”
No mistaking, there it was again, a whooshing noise, along with the soft timber of chanting voices.
You watched in horror as Jareth’s body seized, trembling where he stood as if being controlled by puppet strings, eyes rolling back in his head.  His jaw went slack and his head bent back.
Someone or something was controlling him, possessing his body.
“What is happening?” You gasped, clinging to Eddie.
“I don’t know,” Eddie was already on the move, pulling you toward him to take you into his arms and run. “But I don’t want to wait to find out.”
But he wasn’t fast enough
You felt his body go rigid, too, hand falling limp in your grasp
You turned to find him in a similar state; eyes quivering back into his head, body stiff and vibrating as if he were caught in the grip of some strange, upright sleep paralysis.
“Eddie, no!” You cried, reaching up to take his face in your hand. Every muscle in his body was tense and his breathing shallow.
“Eddie, you’re scaring me!” You choked on your fear, tugging at his arm.
But then there came another sound, one that made your blood run cold.
“I control the dead,” a soft, feminine voice said.  “And it just so happens that your sweetheart and his friend are no longer living, if you hadn’t noticed.”
You spun around in a circle, seeing no one.  “Who are you? What do you want?”
She appeared to you then, like a vision.  Long, ebony hair and a dark purple velvet cape, her sharp green eyes were familiar to you in a way you didn’t understand.
“I want you, Dove,” she said with a sly grin.
The woman said something else, in language you didn’t recognize, and she blew some type of dust into your face from the palm of her hand.
You were able to let out the first part of a scream for help before your knees buckled and you were falling into an inky abyss.
—----
Since you were late, Steve was on his way over from the bookstore to check on you when he heard your broken, shrill cry.
He called your name and started to jog, peering in through the blanket of fog that was finally beginning to dissipate.
He vaulted over the hood of one of the cars, pouncing into the street just in time to see the SUV with the tinted windows speed away from the curb, tires squealing.
“Hey!” With a growl, and a red glow to his eyes, he ripped his clothes off as he ran, turning into wolf form along the way.  He was sleek and dark gray, so fast and agile, wearing the night like a cloak.
He chased the vehicle into the night, eventually keeping pace with it through the forest, no matter how much it picked up speed.
—-----
In the shadows of an abandoned building near the tracks with broken out windows and a crumbling roof, Eddie gave a few tight blinks of his eyes; they felt dry and itchy, like someone had thrown salt in them.  There were slabs of broken concrete and a metal beam in front of him from the half-demolished structure.  The air smelled like rat feces and urine, and he was seated on the ground with his hands behind his back.
He shifted to test the strength of his restraints and hissed in pain as the silver chain around his neck and wrists burned him, making a sizzling noise like eggs in a frying pan.
“It’s no use,” the deep voice behind him said.
“Jareth?” Eddie turned his head and cringed in pain again.
Both of them were secured to a thick, cement pillar, facing away from each other.
“Are we alone?”
“As far as I can tell,” Jareth said in his typical, monotone voice.
“What the hell was that?”
“The witch I warned you about would be my guess,” Jareth returned flatly. “And if you hadn’t slowed us down, we might have had a chance to escape her.”
Eddie went silent, trying to concentrate on the magic force that connected him to you through the sharing of each other’s blood, but he couldn’t hear you…couldn’t feel you, and that worried him more than anything.
“What is she going to do with her?”
“I am ancient, but I am not a psychic,” Jareth drolled.
Just then, a huge wolf with red eyes leapt through the gaping hole on the side of the building and trotted over to them, panting, huge tongue lolling out of its mouth of jagged teeth.  Both Eddie and Jareth bared their fangs as the beast closed in on them, sniffing the air as it went.
Steve morphed back into his human form then, and stood before them completely naked.
Eddie retracted his fangs and tried to look anywhere but at the package on the new arrival. “Jesus christ, put that thing away, man.”
“Where is she?” Steve looked around at the empty expanse, trying to get a glimpse of you.  “I can’t smell her anymore.”
“That’s because she’s not here, you mongrel,” Jareth sighed, annoyed.
“Did you see where they went?” Chain link welts formed on Eddie’s neck.  “The ones who brought us here?”
Steve worked his jaw, angry with himself.  “I kept up for as long as I could, but then I lost them on the freeway and had to find the scent again.”
Eddie threw his head back against the concrete pillar with a curse.
“Well?” Jareth interrupted the moment of silence. “You could help us out of these restraints if you wanted to make yourself useful.”
“I’m thinking about it,” Steve gave him a glare, his breath like smoke in the frozen air.  “Or I could just leave you to rot.”
“I will spend the rest of my immortal life making you regret that decision—” Jareth’s voice began to raise.
“Enough,” Eddie grunted. “We will be stronger in numbers,” his eyes met Steve’s with a sincere urgency. “She’s in danger.”
“We’ll need to find shelter before dawn,” Jareth reminded him. He looked up at the opening in the concrete with a view of the stars.  In a few hours, the sun would turn them to ashes.  “Or we will perish.”
Steve tucked his chin, willing to set aside his loathing of fangers long enough to get you back, and squatted down to get to work unraveling the massive chain that pinned the two vampires together.
—----
You could feel yourself drifting in and out of consciousness, or whatever type of spell they had you under, watching the lights from the freeway cut by through half lidded eyes. Inside, you were screaming at yourself to move, to wake up.
Propped up in the back seat, seatbelt across your lap, your forehead against the window.  You couldn’t see the person driving, but in the passenger seat was the woman with long black hair.  Every time your eyelids fluttered open on an inhale, she was watching you over her shoulder.
“Dr. Brenner will be pleased,” a man’s voice said, possibly from behind the wheel.  “Why he is so desperate to have her, I will never know.”
“He wants her because she is the only one of her kind,” the woman gave a sarcastic cough of a laugh, as if your value should be obvious.  “Reanimated tissue fused with gamma radiation and witch magic?  If he could bottle her strength and regeneration capabilities, he'd be unstoppable.”
“The vampire boyfriend, is he going to be a problem?” the driver asked.
You drifted awake to see the woman’s profile, stoic in the moonlight.
“They’ll be dead by the time the sun comes up,” she sniffed.  “For all the bragging they do about immortality, all it takes is a bit of silver and sunlight to eliminate them.”
Your heart rate picked up, alarms going off inside of you.  A scream caught in your throat but wasn’t able to form a complete sound.
Something clicked in your brain, and a shift began to take place.
Electricity buzzed under your skin, licking all of your nerves and cells awake.
A change was happening.
The driver glanced at you in the rearview mirror.  “You sure we don’t have to worry about her waking up?”
The woman scoffed.  “She’ll be out for at least another hour, and then she’s Brenner’s problem.  I didn’t just put any old spell on her, that one could put down a team of elephants.’
There was nothing but the sound of tires on the pavement for a few seconds and then the SUV swerved and the man behind the wheel cursed.
“What the hell was that?” He huffed, struggling to get back into his lane. Something huge had swooped down from the sky in front of them, something with the wings of a bat and legs like an octopus.
Headlights came toward the window and someone honked for them to move out of the way.
“I didn’t think there were any demobats on this side,” the woman mused, wondering if that was what she saw, or if her eyes were playing tricks on hre.  “They hate humans.”
There came the sound of scratching on the roof
SCRTCH SCRITCH SCRITCH
And then an animalistic yowl, like the caw of a prehistoric bird.
Bela dove again, but this time, she attached herself to the windshield, obscuring the driver’s view of the road.
He swerved again, tires catching in the loose gravel of the median, and she flew off the glass.
“Don’t you have any magic to get rid of this thing?” The guy whined.
“I can’t control demobats, no one outside of the Upside Down can.”
“When that fucker comes around front again, I’m gunning it.  Splatter the thing all over the road.”
Behind them, you moaned, brow furrowed, fingers clawing at nothing.  Your muscles throbbed like they were being pulled apart.
Bela flew into the side window opposite you with a thump, making a spiderweb crack and the glass, and then she rammed at it again.
“This fucking thing is gonna get in here,” the man spat.
“Just drive faster you moron! It can’t keep up with us.”
He yanked the wheel, pulling the vehicle to the side to try and hit her, but she was already in the air and off again.
You rolled back in your seat as the speed increased with a jolt, and for a moment, there was peace.
The driver checked the rearview mirror again.  “I think we lost it,” his attention snapped to the woman with the inky black locks.  “What the fuck was that about?”
She was mid-shrug in response to his question when Bela charged the windshield, landing with enough force again to splinter the glass.
This time, there was no wiggle room when he swerved as a semi truck was barreling down on them in the opposite direction, blaring its horn.
The SUV jerked right, tires catching at the lip of a dry irrigation ditch, and then they rolled.  There was the sound of shattering glass and the sickening crunch of twisted metal while the two in the front seat let out shrill screams.
And then everything was quiet.
—-------
Back at Eddie’s trailer, Jareth paced outside while Eddie found Steve something to wear.
“These good enough? I think they’ll fit,” he tossed a few things on the couch. Eddie changed out of his leather and slipped on a black hoodie, in case he needed to hide his hair and be in disguise for some reason.
Still in his birthday suit, ass on full display, Steve’s expression was bitchy as he pinched the material to lift it up for a better look.
“A ratty jean vest?” Steve raised a brow.
Eddie popped a cigarette between his lips, crinkling up the empty soft pack of Camel’s in his hand.  “Sorry the maid hasn’t come to do laundry today, Princess. Those are the only two things I have that are clean.  Take it or leave it.”
“Fine,” Steve rolled his eyes. The jeans he was borrowing had ripped holes in the knees and the shoes were white Reebok high tops.  “I’m usually able to plan better when I shift,” he mumbled, stepping into the pant legs, gently tucking his cock inside to avoid the teeth of the zipper.
Once they’d been freed from the restraints at the abandoned building, Eddie hotwired a cement mixer from a nearby construction site, and then they swung by downtown to see if any of the clothes Steve had worn earlier were salvageable in the street, but they’d been obliterated like a bomb went off.
“Just do me a favor and take that off before you bust out of it in another transformation, cool?”
Eddie turned away to take a drag from his smoke while Steve inspected the patches on the battle jacket with a frown.
And that was when it happened.
Like the ringing of a phone in his head
A spasm in his chest
He could feel you calling to him
“This is it,” he screwed his eyes shut, trying to zero in on the emotions you were radiating.
“This is what?” Steve stood in front of the mirror under the clock, adjusting the collar of the vest and raking a hand through his hair.
Eddie’s eyes snapped open, tip of his tongue resting between his lips.  He sprang behind Steve on his way to the door, clapping him on the shoulder.  “It’s showtime.”

laser beams a new fantasy AU into existence!!
Star Witch Meryl who investigates celestial/spacial related anomalies and tries to help solve them
space void angel Vash who just lost his arm (and his old arcane charm from Rem that disguises him as human), also rumoured to be a walking Lycan cure
Newly Lycan curse-infected Wolfwood who is seeking the legendary cure for both himself and Livio (who was the one who bit him)
Knives is the one who created the lycan curse. There is no known cure.
The rumours about Vash being a walking cure is also false, or at least not tested in any way thats proven effective. It started because Vash and Knives are mirror twins.
This doesn't stop desperate werewolves seeking a cure to take a bite out of him, but his blood only worsens their condition or drives them mad
Wolfwood finds that he retains some clarity though by being around both Vash and Meryl though!!

My Personal History with My Good Friend, Satan
My first encounter with The Devil - that I can remember, at least - came when I was about three or so. My mom liked to borrow VHS tapes from libraries to show me and my siblings a lot, and one of the libraries she used was the one at our church. It was a small and obviously very religion-centric collection, but it left a notable mark on me - like, that's where I saw this weird, kinda shitty cartoon version of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe which might be responsible for irreconcilably fucking up my taste in women? I just have this distinct memory of watching the scene where Edmund is tempted by the White Witch and thinking, "Yeah, he's making the right call." If anything I was frustrated that he hesitated - three year old me was already simping for this woman. Just imagine a child channeling Ernie Hudson in Ghostbusters and growling, "When a terrifying and beautiful woman offers you candy and a private sleigh ride, you say YES!" and that's basically me as a kid.
Where was I? Right, Satan. So, the other video from that library I remember was this cartoon retelling of Bible stories, and really I just remember the Adam and Eve part. The temptation scene had this huge, super gnarly-looking demonic red snake in it, and he was so cool and badass and I was already predisposed to like snakes anyway, so of course he was my instant favorite. But, like almost all media featuring reptiles that captured my little child heart, he turned out to be the bad guy - literally The Devil, in this case - and was punished at the end of the story. And that pissed me off.
Sometime shortly thereafter - or at least that's how I remember it, this was over thirty years ago so things might be smushed closer together than they really were by the fog of ages - some of the kids in my preschool chastised me for liking snakes. "Don't you know the devil is a snake? Snakes are evil!" I remembered the movie, and it made me angry.
Because snakes aren't evil, and as a kid I knew that because my parents taught me it. Snakes were just animals, they don't know right from wrong, and to call them evil it to judge them for what they are, not what they do. That experience taught me a very important lesson: The Devil is a tool to make people hate the innocent. And as I'd later learn, snakes were far from the only innocents people would vilify because of a demonic association.
The second time I met the devil came a few years later, when I was six or seven or so. My Grampa and Grams liked to take us up North to Mackinac City and the Upper Peninsula each summer, and I have a lot of fond memories of those trips, but there was one in particular that's relevant to this discussion. We saw a sign for a "laser light show" in the shopping district, and I got to stay up late to see it with my family. The show in question was basically a cartoon projected into the night sky adapting the song The Devil Went Down to Georgia. It was super primitive and hokey and cornball and terrible and I loved every second of it. I was enchanted, absolutely delighted with the spectacle and the silly song where the devil was less a force of evil and more a comically bumbling inept supervillain - one of my favorite archetypes, even back then. So that's the second lesson about the devil I learned: The Devil can be fun sometimes.
Now, Godzilla, one of the few reptile characters I encountered as a kid who didn't end up a villain (at least not in the first movie of his I saw, Godzilla vs. Megalon), had already set me on the path to loving monsters of all stripes and, by extension, horror fiction in general, so as I grew up I had many more encounters with the devil. But while I warmed up quickly to most monster archetypes, like vampires, zombies, werewolves, etc., I always felt dismissive of demons. It kind of coincided with me becoming disillusioned with Christianity as a whole, in fact. A story about fighting evil, Christian-style demons is ultimately an allegory for fighting evil as defined by Christianity, and Christianity's definition of what evil is, well, sucks. It's bad! They got some things right, but some things horribly wrong. The devil is the tool Christianity uses to make you hate the innocent, and I struggled to enjoy a lot of demon stories because of that. Still do with some, in fact.
There were exceptions, of course - I loved The Evil Dead series as soon as I saw it at too-early-of-an-age, but then, the demons in it aren't super Christian. They aren't repelled by holy water or crucifixes or prayer, and in fact God and Jesus barely get mentioned in the series and never come up as a potential solution. They're kind of secular as demons go, and maybe that made them easier to stomach. But overall, demons ranked pretty low in the hierarchy of monsters to me - they were too tainted by the religion that spawned them for me to enjoy.
Until college, anyway. I quietly renounced my faith during my Freshmen year, and then, as if seeking one last chance at redemption in my eyes, the devil came to me again the following year. That's when I had a class on Medieval literature, and was exposed to far older devil stories than I had ever seen before. And Medieval devils kick ass. They have so much more personality and variety than I had come to expect, and some are downright affable, even sympathetic to a degree. It was one of many moments in college when I realized there was much more to a topic I'd previously written off as boring and trite.
This is when I read Dante's The Divine Comedy and Milton's Paradise Lost and Marlowe's Faust and Ben Johnson's The Devil Is An Ass. It's when I read early Gothic Horror novels like Matthew Gregory Lewis's The Monk, and dived into The Twilight Zone, which has more than a few episodes that are updates of medieval-style devil folktales in a more modern (i.e. 1960's) setting. And so many of these works presented the Devil not as a stand-in for everything Christianity hates, but as a person - a deeply flawed person, yes, but a person with actual wants and feelings and thoughts of his own, a person who was interesting and compelling - and sometimes funny, and sometimes charming, and sometimes really sad. There was, dare I say... sympathy for the devil growing in my heart.
In the last year of my undergraduate studies, I attended my college's yearly Medieval Studies Congress, where people from all over the world came to Kalamazoo just to share their research papers on medieval history and literature. One girl's thesis paper was on the subject of "rueful devils," i.e. depictions of demons in literature where they wanted to repent their sins and redeem themselves, which uniformly ended with the devils' hopes being dashed as they could not fully repent. This idea... possessed me. The idea that the devil could repent, or at least try to - that there could be hope even in the most debauched sinner. It was such a good narrative trope in my eyes - why did it die out centuries ago?
Well, because the church didn't like it, you see. If the devil can repent - if the Absolute King of Evil can choose to become a good person - then he's not very useful as a tool to make people hate the innocent anymore. The devil MUST be "pure evil" to work as intended. A rueful devil, a repentant devil, a devil that can be redeemed, forces us to be more forgiving and kind. It forces us to be better. It prevents us from hating people because an old book says so. And some people just couldn't have that, and so the trope died.
...
After I got my bachelor's degree, I entered the job market and, after applying to fifty different places or so, was finally hired as a high school english teacher about two weeks before the school year started. Said school year was the worst year of my life. Like, I've had extreme self loathing issues and suicidal ideation since, like, sixth grade, but holy shit it was NEVER as bad as it was in that nine month stretch between 2012 and 2013. There was this bridge I had to cross on the way to work each morning, and about two months in the job was so stressful that part of my morning routine was thinking, "You know, if I just swerve to the right, this can all be over and I'll never have to worry again." About halfway in I began drastically losing weight despite not changing my diet or getting more exercise and it was so traumatic that to this day whenever my weight starts to drop my initial reaction is dread rather than excitement. I impulse bought the first two Kung-Fu Panda movies and, after watching each for the first time and crying hideously, proceeded to watch them on repeat for an entire weekend while sobbing myself hoarse for reasons I couldn't comprehend at the time.
I was in Hell. And the devil met me there.
I started writing a story during that year. I didn't get very far, just a couple chapters, but it was one of the few things that gave me a sense of accomplishment. Despite all the stress and sadness and misery, I made something. It was a story about demons, and Hell, and trying to make your life better even when the world around you seems deadset on making you suffer as much as possible.
When my bosses called me into their office at the end of that year and told me that I had to quit my job so the assistant principal could take my teaching position and survive the downsizing they'd get next year, and that if I didn't quit they'd give me the lowest teacher evaluation they could and make it supremely difficult for me to get hired elsewhere... I was relieved. I'd been let out of Hell. After a handful of months left to finish out the year, I was free.
And then I went home, with nothing. No job, no desire to pursue the career for which I'd spent five years and an ungodly amount of money getting a degree to pursue, no nest egg, nothing. Nothing except a few chapters of a book.
The years that followed were hard. I did a lot of temp work, it took me a very long time to find something that worked for me. I may have left the worst year of my life, but there was still a lot of misery waiting for me. And through it all, I felt the need to accomplish... something, ANYTHING. I had to make something to prove I had a reason to exist, even if it was something that only had value to me.
With three years of work, those chapters became my first novel, No Sympathies: A Tale of Those Who Trespass Against Us. It was about the devil, and Hell, and finding salvation even when things seem inescapably bleak. It was my first novel, and now, eight years later, it's the first of five.
The devil saved my life. He saw me at my lowest, lifted me up, whispered, "It'll be ok. You have to keep going. I'll be with you, but you have to keep going," and goddammit, he kept me from swerving right.
That's when I learned the greatest truth about the devil, at least to me. The devil is a tool to make people hate the innocent, yes, this is true, but because of that, the devil can be a savior for the broken, the beaten, and the damned. You can feel like you're worthless, wretched, and doomed. But if the devil can rise from Hell, if the devil can choose to change, if people are willing to pray for the one sinner who needs it most - then there's hope for you too, isn't there?
Demons are creatures of rebellion - against God, against nature, against the powers that be, against doom and damnation itself. They were made to be a tool to hurt the innocent, but that's not what they have to be. Devils can lift us up, because no matter how far you fall, no one can say whether it's the end for you except you.
...I would like to point out that I am being figurative here. The devil does not literally exist, at least not in my view of things. He's a fictional character, nothing more. But he's a prolific fictional character, and how we portray him can say so much about us. And, to me, he is a dear friend, despite being imaginary, because the devil was there for me when I was low, and it was on his wings that I rose from doom.
...again, figuratively, not literally.

Devil's Night
Tumblr media

CW: GP, vampires, werewolves, demons, Sana has some maybe questionable supernatural abilities when it comes to getting her way...
[GP!Vampire!Mina x Succubus!Sana x GP!Werewolf!Momo]
There were, at any given moment, only a handful of safe bars in the city for undiscovered monsters, folkloric creatures and hybrids to congregate for a drink without fearful, judgmental stares from the rest of the human population.
But in the days leading up to Halloween, it was a little easier to slip undetected among the throngs of people out celebrating.
It was Devil's Night, the night before Halloween, and Mina felt an invisible, out of character pull toward the dark club she now found herself walking into in the district of the city most known for its vibrant nightlife. The throb of the heavy bass hit her eardrums at the same time her vampiric senses detected the astounding number of beating hearts inside. Once inside, Mina flocked to the bar on the main level and watched the crowd around her with rapt fascination: the shadows of happy, drunken people with sweating drinks in hand, the way lasers and lights hit their faces every so often, the way they erupted in cheers when they recognized the remixed versions of Rezz, Hante and darkwave pop songs that played overhead.
At the bar, she ordered a glass of ice. The bartender gave her a funny look. “No water?” he’d asked, but complied. Shortly after receiving her cup of ice, Mina headed for the bathroom.
She ducked into a stall quickly, keeping her face out of view as best she could to avoid the mirrors in front of the sinks as girls nearby touched up their makeup, took selfies and washed their hands. No one noticed her, though. She emerged from the stall shortly after, knowing whoever cleaned up was going to get a real Halloween fright when they found the drained bag of donated blood in the trash receptacle reserved for menstruation products.
Mina weaved her way back to the bar with her glass in hand. She normally preferred her blood warm and from a willing, living source, but if she wanted to blend in, it needed to look like a dark mixed drink, so she settled for sipping O negative on ice through a straw so it wouldn’t stain her lips and alarm anyone close to her. She wasn’t opposed to drinking alcohol, but alcohol lowered her inhibitions, and right now she needed help to resist the club full of living juice boxes: people full of an array of blood types, some regular and some spiked– those that had all sorts of fun, illicit substances in their systems.
The vampire licked her lips absentmindedly and staked out a new seat toward the end of the bar, away from the guy who had taken her order. The number of people coming in to dance kept rising. Usually the vampire avoided this kind of environment, but there really was some sort of magnetic attraction to the space she couldn’t shake off. She wanted to stay a little longer.
She swiveled around on the bar stool, thinking about taking a look at the Halloween drink specials, only to bump into someone next to her.
“Oh,” she said softly, then found her voice over the blaring club music, “Sorry!”
The woman who she had bumped into turned around. “No worries!” she said, offering Mina a smile.
Mina, had she still been human, knew her heart rate would’ve spiked after taking in the woman’s appearance. She was stunning. As the woman smiled, the vampire found the corners of her own mouth turning up, too.
The stranger beside her was everything Mina wasn’t: warm, athletic and rugged. She was dressed as a sexy zookeeper in short khaki shorts, a suggestively unbuttoned khaki shirt with multiple pockets, and a red bandana around her neck. A pair of high heeled Timberland boots finished off her look. Her stylish, shaggy wolf cut framed her face perfectly, and Mina couldn’t help but notice just how well toned the woman’s body was.
“Wow,” the other woman spoke, giving Mina a not-so-subtle once over. “You must need, like, SPF 500.”
Mina blinked at the other woman. Then she remembered how pale she must’ve looked in comparison. Lacking a reflection (save for when she looked in ponds, lakes, or full bathtubs) made it hard to remember what her features looked like to other people. “Oh,” she said, looking down at her drink. “Uh, yeah, kinda.”
Momo offered an apologetic smile. “Sorry,” she said. “I just meant, like— you’re really pretty, is what I’m trying to say.”
Mina perked up a bit at that. “Thank you,” she said, allowing herself to look up into the woman’s golden eyes. “What’s your name?”
“I’m Momo,” the woman said, switching her drink to her left hand and extending her right out to shake. Mina took it and their touch was like fire meeting ice. She knew her hands were cold all the time, but this woman’s hand seemed far warmer than a normal human’s. Mina’s mouth watered a little, detecting Momo’s steady pulse quickly.
“And you are?”
The vampire shook off her blood-centered thoughts. “I’m Mina,” she said, offering a shy smile.
“Oh wow, your fangs are great!” Momo said, leaning in as Mina spoke. “And your contacts— where did you find red-rimmed ones? I love a good vampire costume.”
Mina blushed. “I um, I have a friend who does special fx makeup,” she said quickly. It was a complete lie, but what other choice did she have? She never revealed herself during fleeting encounters with humans.
“Yours are really nice, too,” the vampire added, nodding toward Momo’s eyes. “What a pretty golden color.”
It was Momo’s turn to freeze for a moment. “Oh these– I mean, thank you,” she said, taking a sip of her drink quickly.
Mina didn’t miss the awkward beat and felt bad. “I’m sorry,” she said, “I didn’t mean to make you self conscious.”
Momo leaned in a little closer, brushing her arm against Mina’s. “No! No, not at all,” she said, thinking quickly, “Just– forgot I was wearing them,” she said with a nervous laugh.
Mina was about to ask if she could buy her a drink when a voice behind them interrupted.
“Wow, you two have got to be the hottest couple here.”
Momo and Mina both turned around to find a dizzyingly pretty stranger before them. She was some sort of demon, it appeared, but a slutty version. The two tried their best not to let their eyes linger for too long, but it was hard not to stare.
The mystery woman wore ripped black thigh high stockings secured with black garters and recognizable red-bottomed black heels. A shiny black bodysuit covered her top half, but left plenty to the imagination with a criss-cross cutout running down from the top to the middle of the suit. She wore a tattered black cape that barely covered her ass, her deep red lipstick matched the back of her heels, and the dark, almost ombré-esque horns on top of her head were the perfect finishing touch. They looked sturdy and quite well made.
“Oh,” Mina said, recovering first while Momo’s jaw hung slightly slack. “We’re– we’re not a couple.” She noticed that the new woman’s ears were slightly pointed, too, and wondered what kind of prosthetics she was using.
The demon girl seemed unphased. “Oh, aren’t you?” she asked, her voice as sweet as it was sultry. “Saves me from embarrassing myself and hitting on both of you, then.”
It was then that Momo finally found her voice. “You can hit on us,” she blurted.
A small smile crossed the demon’s lips as Momo blushed instantly. “I mean, I-I can’t speak for Mina but…”
The demon’s eyebrows went up. “So you do know each other?”
Mina watched the girl curiously. “Barely,” she piped up. She felt strangely compelled to keep this conversation going. Despite not caring what most people thought of her, she wanted this girl to like her. “We just met.”
The woman hummed thoughtfully. “I see,” she said, a playful smile still present. “Well if either of you are interested…I’m heading to the bar on the upper level,” she said, flicking her eyes up to the more secluded lounge upstairs.
“Isn’t that VIP?” Momo asked. “I uh, I don’t think I can get in there.”
“Me either,” Mina said, taking a sip of her chilled blood. She gripped her glass a little tighter while she eyed the demon girl’s exposed upper thighs, trying her best not to think about femoral arteries.
“I can get you in,” the woman shrugged. “It’s no trouble,” she said, eyes roaming over the two of them. “Really.”
Momo and Mina looked at each other. Momo had an amused smile on her face now, and Mina noticed the shade of gold her eyes had been a minute ago was now a little darker. Mina’s breath caught. Colored contacts didn’t normally change color. She couldn’t be inhuman too, could she..?
“I’m in,” Momo said, interrupting Mina’s train of thought. “Mina?”
Mina looked at the two women in front of her. She knew she shouldn’t. It was risky and there was no guarantee that even if things went her way, that either of them would be into what she told humans was her “severe blood play kink.” But getting a drink with two women, especially ones this attractive, was too tempting to pass up. Isn’t this the point of Devils’ Night? she asked herself. To take advantage of the lifting of the veil between her world and humans’?
“Okay,” she said, surprising herself and sliding off of the bar stool.
The horned demon led the way through the crowd of dancing people in costumes of all kinds. Momo followed after, with Mina bringing up the rear. At the top of the stairs, the entrance to the lounge, a burly security guard stopped them. “If you don’t have wristbands already, I’ll need names to confirm you on my list,” he said gruffly.
“Minatozaki Sana,” the demon said sweetly, twirling some of her long, dark hair around her finger. The guard went to check the guest list pulled up on his phone, but she touched his arm lightly, making him look up at her first. “There should be two guests as well,” she said, smiling at him.
The guard looked at her. He paused for a moment, then blinked. “Two guests,” he repeated monotonously, putting his phone away and allowing them in. He didn’t even check the list.
Momo and Mina exchanged awe-struck glances before following after her. The second level of the club was much less crowded. The lighting was more dim too, but Mina had no trouble seeing in the dark. It looked like Momo had adjusted just fine, too, as the demon led them to a secluded area around the corner.
She chose a table that had a long booth on one side and chairs on the other. Momo slid into the booth first, followed by Sana. Mina was going to snag one of the chairs, but was stopped.
“Sit next to me?” the demon girl asked. It was a suggestion, but Mina’s body reacted as if it were a command and she found herself nodding, abandoning the chair and sliding in next to her so Sana was in the middle.
Sana beamed. “Are you thirsty?” she asked the two of them.
“I can get us some drinks,” Momo offered, moving to get up, but Sana shook her head.
“No, no, you stay here, she said, and Momo stayed put.
“Excuse me?” the demon said, catching the attention of a passing staff member.
Minutes later, two rounds of shots were delivered to their table, on the house, despite the fact that this was very much not one of those clubs with table service or an establishment that gave drinks out for free.
“Whoa,” Momo said as they each were presented with glasses of water, slotted spoons, two sugar cubes, and two small glasses of curiously green liquor. “Do you like, know the owner or something?”
Sana laughed, wetting the sugar cubes for the three of them so they would start to drip into the green liquid. “Something like that. I’m Sana, by the way,” she said.
Momo and Mina introduced themselves again, taking in their new environment. Away from the heavier crowds, Momo’s hypersensitive nose wasn’t so overloaded with surrounding scents. She watched as the sugar dissolved through the slotted spoon, disappearing into the drink. She brought it up to her nose and sniffed lightly. It smelled unlike anything she’d ever tasted before.
The vampire, on the other hand, recognized it almost immediately.
“Absinthe? Mina asked curiously.
“Very good,” Sana said. “Fitting for Devil's Night, don’t you think?”
Momo hummed, but Mina looked a little anxious. “Devil's Night?” she asked. “You’re…familiar?”
Sana shrugged. “Quite,” she said. “I like to celebrate by window shopping along all of the clubs in the city. If one looks good enough, sometimes I’ll drop in.”
The vampire picked up her glass and took a sip. She couldn’t believe Sana had ordered two for each of them. The unmistakable anise and fennel flavors took over her tongue immediately. There was no way she was going to finish both given how strong they were.
Then she frowned. It was like she was only now understanding what Sana had just said.
“Window shop?” Mina asked, puzzled by the woman’s choice of words. “For what?”
“A treat, of course,” Sana said, offering no further explanation. She looked between the two of them. “What about you two?” she asked. “Here for Devil's Night or just having a fun Halloweekend?”
Momo’s face reddened a little. “I’m…uh, Devils’ Night,” she said.
Sana’s eyes flicked over to Mina. They seemed to look straight into Mina’s soul, or lack thereof while she waited for her to answer.
“Same here,” Mina said quickly, hoping the follow up question wasn’t going to be ‘Why?’
“I thought you both might be,” Sana said, pausing to drink some of her absinthe. She had long, black acrylic nails that she now tapped thoughtfully on the side of her glass. “Forgive me for asking so soon after meeting, but how do we smell to you, Momo?” she asked with a grin, making the athletic girl nearly choke.
“S-smell?” Momo asked nervously, tugging at the bandana around her neck a little. She almost reminded Mina a little bit of Scooby Doo in her mannerisms.
Sana put a hand on Momo’s thigh and leaned in toward her neck. “I’ve always been curious to know what a vampire smells like, if anything, to a werewolf.”
Mina’s eyes widened at that and she slid out of the booth with lightning speed at the same time Momo was scrambling to get up on the other end.
Sana just laughed, taking another sip of her drink. “Relax,” she said, checking out her nails casually. “I’m not a threat. And I’m not human, either.”
“Then…?” Mina asked. She couldn’t finish her question. Her vampiric instinct was telling her to flee, but she hadn’t run off like she had planned. Her feet felt glued to the floor. She couldn’t bring herself to leave, but she also couldn’t bring herself to sit back down.
“H-how did you know?” Momo asked. She was sitting at the edge of the booth. Her fight or flight instinct seemed to be stalled, too.
“I’ll tell you if you drink with me, please?” Sana batted her eyelashes at them. “Just one little drink.”
Realizing she was probably drawing more attention to herself by standing, Mina begrudgingly obliged and sat back down, sliding back over next to Sana. “Fine,” she said. She reached for her glass, knocking back the first round of absinthe in one go. Her eyes watered and she almost coughed, but she kept it down, clearing her throat once the alcohol was safely traveling down her esophagus. It was over the top, maybe, but now she could at least say she’d had one drink if she needed to hightail it out of there.
Sana’s eyes seemed to glow. “Wow,” she said. She then turned to the werewolf. “Momo?”
Momo seemed stiffer than Mina had been, and it took a few seconds before her body relaxed again. Hesitantly, she slid back over next to Sana, too.
She looked at Mina, who shared her bewildered expression, and then followed the vampire’s lead, downing her first glass of absinthe, too. She grimaced, licking her lips the way a dog would after realizing the treat it had just eaten was stuffed with medicine.
Sana smirked. “Mm, I love being right,” she said, clearly pleased with herself. “A sexy vampire and a sexy werewolf, what luck.”
Momo and Mina peered at each other curiously.
“So– your fangs..?” Momo asked.
“Real,” Mina said. She couldn’t believe she was admitting this so freely, in a public space no less.
“And your eyes… no full moon, huh?” Mina offered up.
Momo chuckled. “Not tonight,” she said sheepishly.
“But it will be in like, two days,” Sana said, bringing their attention back to her. “What are you doing out so close to the start of your rut cycle, little werewolf?” she said, using one of her nails to gently touch just under Momo’s chin. She turned Momo’s head, making the werewolf look at her before resting her hand on Momo’s thigh again.
Momo blushed.
Sana’s other hand made its way to Mina’s thigh. “You’re taking a risk too, aren’t you? A little vampire on her very best behavior while surrounded by walking blood-flavored Capri Suns,” she giggled. It wasn’t malicious in any way, but Mina still went red, which really only made her look slightly more human as the hint of color made its way to her pale face.
“Enough about us,” Momo said, feeling suddenly protective of the pretty vampire. “You said you’re no threat or a human. So what are you?”
“Hmm. An appreciator of gorgeous women, for starters,” Sana said, taking her hand off Momo’s thigh to finish off her first glass of absinthe. “Please,” she said, nudging the second glasses toward them.
There it was again– that invisible persuading force. Momo brought the second glass up to her lips carefully. The alcohol was already running amok through her system. And even though she was still slightly distressed by the mystery woman’s ability to clock her so easily, she was also starting to become slightly aroused. The demon girl beside her smelled sinfully good, as did the vampire, almost earthy, like late fall leaves.
And not only did they smell good, Momo thought, they were both incredibly attractive. She found Mina alluring with her sleek, perfectly conditioned long dark hair and sharp fangs tucked behind those pretty lips, and Sana’s entire presence was devastatingly sexy. Her costume didn’t help with the werewolf’s arousal, either.
Mina found herself drinking from her second glass, too. The buzz was hitting her faster than anything she’d experienced when she was human. Like Momo, she was unsettled, but mildly turned on. Momo’s bangs kept getting in her eyes, making her look slightly doe eyed when she looked up, and Sana, whatever she was, was downright delicious, especially with her know-it-all attitude. And both of them had hearts pumping plenty of warm blood through their bodies.
They watched as Sana then tapped on one of the curled, thick dark horns on her head. “Not a costume,” she admitted.
“Y-you’re a demon?” Mina asked, shocked.
Sana pouted. “Don’t say it like that,” she said, her voice darkening for a millisecond. “I’m not scary.”
She paused. “Well. Not all the time.” She looked up between the two of them to make sure their eyes were on her. Mina and Momo watched, unsure whether to feel horrified or impressed, as Sana showed more of herself to them. The whites of her eyes vanished for a moment, completely overtaken by empty blackness.
And then, just as soon as it happened, it was over and Sana’s big, brown irises came back into view among the whites of her eyes.
Momo’s heart rate spiked and Mina sensed it immediately. She found it strangely sexy of Sana to be able to get Momo’s heart racing with such little effort. Vampirism had really changed her turn-ons over the years.
“S-so what is this, then? What do you want with us?” Momo asked. She peered down at Sana’s hand on her thigh, suddenly afraid of getting hard in front of her and Mina.
“Aw, am I making you nervous, Momo?” Sana giggled lightly, bringing a hand up to toy with the werewolf’s bandana. She hooked a finger under it, pulling Momo close as if to kiss her. She waited for a second to see how the werewolf would react, and just as she’d thought, Momo inched closer.
“I just want to have some fun,” she said, barely brushing her lips against Momo’s. Sana turned away from her then to look at Mina. Her eyes moved down between the vampire’s legs while her hand moved up the vampire’s thigh and squeezed it lightly. “With both of you.”
The demon smirked, removing her hands from both the other two’s bodies and picked up her second glass of absinthe. “I know you two are already interested in each other based off of the way you were gazing at each other when I first saw you,” she said, making the word sound more like gay-zing. “So…is there room for one more?”
Mina nodded at the same time Momo stammered a shy “Yes.”
“Well then,” said Sana, picking up her remaining glass for a toast. “Cheers to Devil's Night.”

Favorite hc of Hunter?
fav scene with him in it?
fav fic centered around him?
etc?
Hunter is FUN. He is so incredibly fun that I can't pick a favourite scene with him in it cuz they're all fantastic. But "You're family now" always makes me lose my entire mind every time I watch it, so let's go with that.
Favourite HC is that one day, out of the blue, he says at the breakfast table, "I....want to write a book."
And Darius just politely raises his eyebrows like "Oh?" He's cautious, not willing to pry.
His first assumption is that Hunter wants to write an autobiography that documents the cruelty he endured in the Emperor's Coven. And he is understandably a little unsure of if thats a good idea. It could be cathartic in the grand scheme of things but Darius also worries about Hunter drudging up old trauma for the purpose of writing. It would be an....emotionally exhausting experience.
Or! It's possible that's not what Hunter wants to write about at all. Perhaps he would like to add to his own collection of wild magic documentation. With all his years of obsessive study and experimentation, Hunter would be considered a reliable resource and specialist on the subject, and he could probably write one hell of a thesis and be regarded as a legitimate academic text.
And then...Hunter slides his notebook across the table for Darius to read, looking a bit shy but eager for a little bit of validation.
Darius looks through his rough draft and it's all like:
-- Werewolves.....IN SPACE!!!
-- [Unnecessarily detailed descriptions of intergalactic textiles that Hunter made up for worldbuilding reasons, along with the history of distribution, conflict over the sale of materials, ethical manufacturing, the durability of the fabric, and why its cheap quality is the reason the werewolves shirts keep getting torn apart]
-- Boys Kissing Emphasis on deep intimate bonds between the protagonists
-- Space lasers!! Pew pew!!!
And Darius is like. Yknow what. Yeah. Write this. I think it will make you happy.

Nocturne (1999) is a survival horror game where you control The Stranger, an operative of a secret organization battling against monsters.
It takes place in a dark fantasy world with references to classics from gothic cinema and literature.
Taking place in the late 1920s and early 1930s, Nocturne has a fantasy-gothic universe with werewolves, zombies, vampires, and such.
The Stranger works for Spookhouse, a secret government organization created by President Theodore Roosevelt to fight monsters.
The game has four different cases you can play through in any order. They all take you to different places in the world.
You team up with a half-vampire to obtain an artifact from a castle in Germany, liberate the Wild West from a zombie assault, fight against reanimated mobsters created by Al Capone in Chicago, survive in a haunted house, etc. There is a great variety.
Gameplay-wise, it plays similarly to classic survival horror games. It has fixed camera angles but doesn't quite play in a tank-control scheme.
In combat situations, The Stranger has to draw his guns manually before shooting. While he aims automatically, the game also gives you the choice to use your mouse. The guns have laser pointers that allow you to aim clearly.
You can strafe right-left to avoid attacks, run, and even jump. So gameplay-wise it plays like an action game, but its restricted camera angles create a neat survival horror balance to stop you from going all-guns-blazing.
In dark locations, The Stranger has two features that he can use. One is the regular flashlight that also draws your guns and aims wherever you're aiming them at. It has a battery that runs out quite fast. So you can't always keep it on. It has a nice flare effect.
The other feature The Stranger can use is night vision. When you go into the night vision mode, the game goes first-person to allow you to better investigate your surroundings. Just like the flashlight, it has a battery.
Thanks to its atmosphere and the great usage of camera angles, Nocturne manages to create a suspenseful experience and always surprises you with what's next. It's full of unexpected twists and turns that you'll appreciate a lot.
Developed by Terminal Reality, the team that made the BloodRayne series, it was released for PC only. It's currently in abandonware status and you can find it online.
I used the patched version in this link and had no issues:

i miss this. I've just been in such a non-creative rut for the last few years. But i'm just starting to break out of it lately. Even started a bone sculpting project a few weeks ago (processing the bones is talking several weeks as it turns out)
Anyway i saw a post on here yesterday that got me briefly interested in my old video game idea and the artist who posted it just agreed to let me commission them to do concept art for it and i'm getting pretty excited about it!
So it's time to go back through and reconnect with Starsys 9 my dream video game project.
It combines a mix of genres, so players can be like, a cyborg human piloting a robot mech, or an alien beast creature, or an elven vampire necromancer, etc.... playing these diverse characters in a MOBA ARPG with FPS and RTS elements.
(please excuse my "drawings", you can see why i'm excited to commission someone for some better concept art)
Tumblr media
there are 3 factions: Cyberians, the Sporeborn, and Dimenkind
Cyberians - humanoid cyborgs that often pilot robot mech suits
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sporeborn - Different alien species (many insectoid) all unified through infection by a sapient fungus
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dimens or Dimenkind - fantasy/horror genre characters like dwarves and werewolves that are pulled from other dimensions by godlike cthulhuic trans-dimensional beings (hence the name Dimens, from the word dimension, but also like demons)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
each faction requires some but not all of the resources available on the planet, (water, organic hydrocarbons, minerals/metal, sulfur, methane) and they fight for access to, or control of, these resources. Resources typically need to be harvested and processed, and each faction has special installations/work units to do this.
Each faction has access to specific types of damage, with some overlap. Each faction tends to have weakness to certain damage types and resistance to certain damage types. Cyberians do: kinetic(bullets)/explosive/physical (melee)/electric/laser Sporeborn do: plasma/physical (melee)/chemical/biological Dimenkind do: physical (melee)/elemental/magic damage/curse damage (debuffs)
The total effect of resource needs, damage weaknesses, damage resistance, and damage capabilities results in a sort of nesting doll system of rock/paper/scissors relationships
Each faction maintains a control zone, in which their dominant resources are provided to player characters for free in AOE dispersal fields.
Cyberians use relay beacons to broadcast resources as particle beams made of individual atoms to be reconstructed into materials. Sporeborn use spore piles to waft clouds of spores that provide sporeborn characters with resources, and Dimens use altars that generate large circles of magic energy.
Another key feature of the game is team-leading. Each player has a certain number of points to spend on npc supports that are assigned to them. There are three size classes of support, each size class costs a different number of points, so a player can choose how to spend their support points to have a whole bunch of small supports, or one of each size, or one big one and a few small ones etc. Some skill tree options increase the number of points available to spend on supports.
Cyberian supports are droids and bots, Sporeborn supports are spore-infected alien animals, and Dimen supports are goblins and zombies and trolls and things.
personal npc supports can be given complex commands using a communication wheel. Leveling up increases the number and complexity of these commands
Each faction's control zone also has unassigned npc supports wandering around doing control zone maintenance and upgrade tasks. Players can temporarily command a couple of these unassigned npcs, as players raise their rank they increase the number of npcs they can claim in this way. These npcs can only be given a small number of very basic commands. However, they can be put under the control of the players personal supports, assigned to perform the same behaviors as that support unit, who can then be given the more complex commands. In this way groups of unassigned npc supports can be deployed by player characters to perform complex maneuvers as a unit.
Additionally, each faction has a technique for taking over command of enemy npcs. Dimens can raise dead npcs, Cyberians can hijack npcs trekie-borg style, and Sporeborn can infect npcs with their fungal spores
There is a lot more (character class breakdowns, huge portions of additional gameplay mechanics like how the RTS elements work, i even wrote a short story as a kind of trailer to introduce the game and showcase a sort of vibe for it) but this post is long enough already

28th October 2023 - Beware the Full Moon!
October's Full Moon is most commonly called The Hunter's Moon, or The Blood Moon. It rises early, so it will appear low on the horizon which makes it appear larger. It provided our ancestors with light to hunt their prey as they stocked up with food for the cold month's ahead. Also, when the moon is low in the sky you are viewing it through a thicker atmosphere, which gives it a reddish tint.
There is also a partial lunar eclipse this evening.
This year's Blood Moon coincides with the Full Moon Fellowship's Halloween Banquet... a charity fund raising event which is being hosted at my Kent residence. Unfortunately, with heavy rain forecast we may not be able to see it. But, I do know that werewolves will be prowling nearby... courtesy of my London company's technical whizz-kids who will be providing a laser light and hologram show as we near the witching hour. And maybe some of my haunted house's resident ghosts will also join us!
Take care out there!

Different anon, but what about Bella pulling off the melting trick on Laurent in New Moon? How would the werewolves react to that?
Anon's referring to this post.
Same story.
The wolves think they did it somehow. Nobody knows who has laser eye powers now, probably somebody who recently turned, but it is badass.

@requiodile
and so we begin again
previous
y'know a remarkable number of the guys do art. Blade... Olivine... Eiden obviously... Garu paints in one of his intimacy rooms... Kuya in this au... idk what's going on in Yakumo's CoD r2 but he might count as well?
anyway what I'm saying is, magical girls art club.
not all of their art makes it into the gallery; most of it doesn't, in fact. but a lot of it ends up in Kuya's personal collection because he's a softie at heart.
Blade's projects end up in the gallery the most often because critics absolutely eat up the avant-garde-ness. none of Eiden's do, because he keeps his for potential inspiration in future designs.
oh my god...... the bodice ripper was there all along.......
gyaru peri / waif ame... terrible. I love it. Kuya gets a real kick out of the ones that make him out to be some teary submissive waif helplessly being taken advantage of by the rest of the clan. in general he's not as fascinated as Blade or Rei by the shitty ooc doujins, but he can appreciate some good comedy. if only the doujin artists knew.
Eiden, watching Sapphire kick a monster's head in: hot damn
Sapphire's transformation has it all... grace, filth, a little cutesiness, a little spice... a full ballet choreo...
Peridot's transformation ranks high on filth with some cutesiness. a lot of boinging. Obsidian's is more cool, especially when he gets more comfortable with his powers. Tourmaline's started off cutesy gap moe, but as he grows into his role as a cool magical girl king, it ends up fucking almost as hard as Sapphire's; he has the regality but not the ballet dancer grace. Moonstone's is cool in the way werewolves are cool.
you know, you did say before that Dante would be a cheetah, but it didn't consciously register until now that it means he's a catboy. catboy Dante. incredible.
I would also actually like to suggest a retcon to lion Dante. I think it fits well, between the king themeing and the mane, and Little Lion Man is a very Dante song. and lion king references, of course.
there are so so many death by snu snu jokes about the Topaz and Peridot titty crush.
Eiden starts making attachments for the evil sex wand. they don't help with like, laser beams, but it's a good way to vary up how he charges the guys up fights. the day he figures out how to use it as a wireless remote controller for other vibrators, it's over.
speaking of wet rained on magical girls
Tumblr media
someday we'll get a magical girl event. someday. I have faith.
the others are so obviously not adapting well to the magical girl life that early on it's hard to gauge when Olivine deserves MMMG, especially since his response to having a bad day is to shut down instead of cry. when he did get MMMG, he'd still make a token effort to turn it down but it never lasted very long because yeah, he would like to get pampered for a bit.
later on he still doesn't get it very much because A) he's honestly enjoying this more than anyone else on the team, and B) he doesn't squabble over the title. but sometimes they'll vote that he gets it (or Kuya makes another extremely biased decision) just because it's been so long since he last got it.
it's like the devil and angel on your shoulders, except they're milfs and instead of giving you life advice they give you dick and hole respectively. hot. it's always A Lot when they decide to sandwich one person (usually Eiden). Olivine prefers to be submissive even while being incredibly needy, so with Kuya directing him... yeah. Yeah.
nodnod. Personal Gender Feelings, I get it. oh to use omegaverse as a medium to process gender feelings.
I didn't expect the sheer amount of citations on yaoi hole...
Quincy has to have Stern Words with the other guys on giving Topper food. Topper's on a diet because he can't run fast enough to avoid danger. do you want Topper to get hurt? no? stop giving him food.
Topper continues to bully the other guys for food, and now he knows who's weak to begging. Yakumo gets very close, but what Quincy said about Topper getting hurt haunts him, so he manages to stay strong. Dante is also surprisingly soft - it is, hilariously, canon that he is not immune to Topper (Forest Carnival). Quincy generally realises what Topper's up to and comes to spirit him away before Dante actually caves.
Olivine, despite his general demeanor, is fully capable of being strict. Edmond sympathizes with Topper, but he has the discipline to resist; ditto for Blade. Topper doesn't even try with Kuya and Rei.
now that Eiden's around, Dante's thighs sure are getting regular workouts... thicc Dante era is coming. I believe in him.
OG Olivine for me ranks fairly low among Olivine SSRs but fairly high among OG SSRs... I don't know if that says that Olivine has really good event SSRs or if it says that I'm wildly biased.
surrounded by flames that warm but don't burn, comforting and protective; the flame of a hearth, of a bonfire. dangerous, but beautiful, and fuel for life itself in the right hands. and then you look up and get an upskirt view of Dante, with his tiny plank ass and monster schlong. we gotta keep some gap moe.
Dante, once he gets more firey, is a popular pick for MMMG cuddling dibs. the heat is amaaaaaazing for sore muscles.
natural redhead Edmond... hold on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can kinda see it! I think the reddish-brown looks nicer than the straight up redhead. definitely very different from the blue hair. this was the best I could do for short hair...
Dante and Edmond going off on the attendee doesn't make it into most of the (very positive) coverage of the gala, but it does feature in some of the less scrupulous gossip rags. some of it frame it as "shocking! 😱 prince and princess ROAST rude guest!" and others frame it as them unfairly tearing into someone who dared criticise them. but the general sentiment across the city is lol that person deserved it
Blade and Rei caught the whole thing on camera. Blade keeps a copy of the footage for posterity.
people watch, fascinated, as Eiden and Olivine approach Quincy and Kuya, expecting them to get smoked by the combo milf-possessive aura. Eiden and Olivine visibly make it out unscathed, but Quincy and Kuya continue to be too intimidating to approach.
man, all the guys would absolutely have the looks for modeling. I imagine Dante's agent is very good at being genuine while taking no shit (had to be, for Dante to stick with her through his entire adolescence and young adulthood) and she manages to fluster Yakumo into saying yes to one photoshoot. and... his looks are amazing, but he's so shy that he's kind of terrible to work with as a model. shame.

lately i've been thinking non-stop about Brucie 😭 since you're in a monster mood i've been thinking about how he (as well as his two college town cousins 😳) would be like as werewolves?
hope you're feeling better btw!!! wish u all the best
Thank you for the well wishes!! Hope you’re doing alright too 💞💞💞
Brucie: somehow even more clingy and protective?? Maybe because of his sharpened senses, Brucie gets a lot more interested in your scent than before— and his own, making sure to rub his face, head, and beard on you to “mark” you with it whenever he can. He probably also starts marking the edge of the cabin with piss but probably not you… unless you ask him to I guess? Honestly he really is just like a giant puppy, or a giant dog who’s convinced they’re a lap dog. He’s definitely even more prone to laying atop you with his full weight because of this. I think he’d also become more emotionally expressive, like pleading with those puppy-eyes, growling at other people who get too close to you, or he may even have a tail that would thump whenever he sees you 🥺
Penny: not a fan of becoming a lycanthrope to be honest 😭. She spent so much time and energy into her transition and now she’s gonna grow hairy all over again?? Luckily the wolfish hair mostly goes away when the moon wanes, and she won’t really have to do laser again, but still!! The heightened senses, increased prey drive and blood lust are also pretty repugnant side-effects for her. She loves old monster movies and would absolutely still adore a monster Darling (even if they do come home covered in blood and gore from time to time and make her feel faint… in the non-sexy way 😭), but for the most part she’d prefer to be a human herself.
Wisteria: Wisteria typically likes being small and dainty, looking like someone in need of protecting, but fae can’t deny the rush and thrill they get from being able to turn into a much bigger, more powerful wolf (or wolfish humanoid). She’s stronger, faster, sharper— no more does fae have to deal with the fatigue and cold she used to feel so often as a human. Even after full moons when fae’s left exhausted and even maybe in pain, it feels so much sharper and easier to identify and rectify than the foggy, nebulous discomfort she lived with before. Everything feels so much more real than before, the boundaries between dreams, daydreams, and waking life sharpening too. Wisteria becomes less shy and more confident (maybe even to the point of some delusion), feeling as if, somehow, this was always meant to be— a final puzzle piece clicking in place that allows her to fulfill faer true potential.
