It's so funny seeing all the people who didn't read the bible and had hopes being as devastated as we the ones who read it were that day

I loved the Paris special and all the hype leading up to it and after it and I just love how it went. I was so afraid it would disappoint my expectations, do something basic and trite but no, it went for something and I loved it.
Like for the most part the art, discussions and fics I saw previous to the airing were kinda goofy. We heard 'evil Marinette and Adrien' and constructed two evil little guys to swing around while we waited. They were bratty and overly dark and unapologetically cruel and conniving. Of course people did explore the possible reasons for them being different but we didn't know what the reverse world was like, where it broke off from our canon so we could only make guesses. People concluded they either did it for the heck of it, or that it was a lashing out against their circumstances. Whether the behavior followed them into being civilians, especially before all the designs were released, we didn't know and we made beautiful noise based on assumptions.
Then we got the episode.
The two kids weren't evil for the heck of it. They were tricked by someone greater, similarly how Master Fu told our Marinette and Adrien to use their power for the greater good, to better the world, the Supreme told them to use it for the greater evil, with some sort of reward in return for accomplishing this goal. It pit them against each other. They couldn't wholly work apart, neither were strong enough to do that, but they were never entirely together because if they worked together, they would simply turn against the Supreme. By telling them that only one of them could get what they wanted, the Supreme became a far cleverer and eviler villain than whatever Gabriel became by the end.
Bad Marinette and Adrien became trapped in the cycle of abuse they likely faced in their civilian lives. Marinette lived under the thumb of Chloe and her worse world and instead of being empowered as Toxinelle, she was trapped in a cycle of failure as it slowly killed her for ever wanting a chance at something better. She has the same capability as our Marinette to be good and to be resilient but the power of one toxic voice is demonstrated in her fall. At the midpoint of the special she knows that how fucked she is and how its entirely by the Supremes' design but she can't do a single thing about it other then finish what they came to do. It takes the hope Ladybug installs in her for her to overcome the manipulations of the Supreme. Bad Marinette loses the chance to get back what she wanted in the first place, whether that be freedom from Chloe or something in her home life but she accepts that she can improve things in a different way. Find Alya, join the resistance, carve out something new for herself. The lack of mention of her father makes you wonder and the bitterness about her mother is another open question. Is her Sabine mean or did something else happen to strain their relationship?
Adrien similarly became trapped in his grief and instead of Griffe Noire being a release from it, he toyed with his life in desperation to get his mother back, like our Gabriel did towards the end. I don't think Good Gabriel was a terrible father like our Gabriel but he was misguided. I think he likely didn't want to address Emily's death because by the looks of the opening, it was quite emotionally distressing and having to face that would mean admitting some terrible things (like that his actions resulted in her death, and that Adrien's 'birth' was the catalyst that had her killed). So he stayed silent and allowed Adrien's resentment to build. This Adrien is also still home schooled. I think again that Good Gabriel does this because he thinks allowing Adrien out into the world would put him in dangers way, since the Supreme obviously hasn't reclaimed the miraculous yet. But again he doesn't explain why, evidenced by Adrien working for the man responsible for his mother's demise. Adrien doesn't know, he thinks his father is pretending like nothings wrong and keeping him cut off from the world. Its likely that the one day Adrien runs away to school, the Supreme finds him and gives him the miraculous before he's whisked away again. Proving Gabriel right, but he doesn't know it.
The Supreme is also just fucking with Gabriel. He knows Gabriel's identity so he's using his son to fuck with him further. He kills his wife and then turns his son against him. His son who is now doomed to die if he doesn't retrieve the butterfly miraculous.
Both character's now reflect paths our versions could have gone down. Yes the world isn't run by the Supreme but miraculous has taken time to show the other ways the city can be terrible. Their Mayor's corrupt controlled by the whims of his daughter and investors, a greedy business man holds a monopoly on artists and the cities biggest fashion designer works with the smartest business woman in town to make rings to spy on everyone, who is literally a super villain with no known motive. Things are pretty shit and it’s not like the show isn't directly pointing to these things as terrible.
Ladybug and Chat Noir see this steaming pile of shit and decide to save it anyway, overcoming their personal challenges along the way. Like why not overthrow the mayor, why not take down those who don't need to be akumatised to be evil? It’s proof of their inherent goodness, even with everything they'd been through prior to origins that they don't do this. Versions of them are only compelled to be evil because someone different gets in their ear, someone promises them better "if they paid only a small price". Neither want to do it, but its all they have left after choosing that path instead of the other. We know that this darkness is in our versions as well. Adrinoir asks why not use the wish to solve everything? He could have his mother back, his father would revert from this cold mess to his distant but loving father. He acts out, plays a different character and doesn't think when he should. Maribug is constantly tearing herself apart trying to balance things and ends up abusing her power occasionally (especially in the earlier part of the show). She sometimes acts selfishly and is misguided. These aren't two entirely different sets of people, but the same set if the wrong traits are amplified.
And omg I love this show.
Instead of going, look at these two evil guys, doing evil things for no reason we get these morally complex renditions of our favorite characters. There's nothing wrong with the previous interpretation but it says little about our own characters in turn and only offers a chance for some hijinks and fun before the episode ends. (I wish they'd been dating and revealed like all our hearts dreamed but if that would have been true they'd have been too powerful and defeated Better fly in like five seconds so they could get back to making out - this lovesquare is even less functioning now)
Anyways be cool, watch miraculous

Whenever I see the "ThEy ArE RiVaLs!!!" argument against Lukadrien I'm just kinda like... are they though? That energy just doesn't fit them. Like at a very basic level they both have both shown interest in the same girl but they aren't out here fighting about it or being awful to each other. They are friends not enemies. I guess when I think about the rivals thing I think about a deep heated resentment between two people. Two people who are aggressive to each other. Two people that hate each other or are constantly trying to prove they are better. Sure they may have felt some jealousy towards the other one at some point or another but it's not been in a hateful way. (The one instance I'm thinking of in particular Luka was trying to make Adrien jealous to help him figure out his feelings so... the purpose behind it was literally Luka trying to be helpful to his friend.) A lot of the hate this ship gets seems to come from the fact that it would mean "taking both of Marinette's love interests away." While there are some funny comics and stuff out there that play with this trope, and I do enjoy the crack aspect of that concept myself tbqh, I've personally never imagined it going that way. If Luka and Adrien are together I imagine that Marinette is very supportive of their relationship. She thinks they are both great and wants them to be happy. (I usually picture her happily with Kagami in these instances because I love the idea of Adrien and Marinette ending up with each other's exes.) Plus Marinette is the type of person to do little things to help them figure it out and spend more time together. (Like as Ladybug scheduling them for patrols together and such.) idk I feel like because they've both been shown as Marinette's love interests people shove them into a bitter rivals trope that is far from who they are as people. They are soft, hopeless romantics, empathetic souls who are good friends. Them falling in love isn't a rivals to lovers trope at all to me. It's friends to lovers. It's figuring out something unexpected. It's an illustration that life is full of surprises. It's something that isn't the status quo. It's exciting and unpredictable. It's a plot twist that has grabbed ahold of my brain and I love it.

So, I thought of this and thought you would like just as a nice imagination fodder: New up and comer designer Marinette is trying to make her bones in the fashion world when help comes from an unexpected place: An ex-rival and childhood tormentor with a bone to pick with her horrible, cruel, unloving mother. Unreciprocated familial love turned bitter and Chloe just wants to bring Aubrey Bourgeois down and prove to the Fashion World, she is over, no matter who she has to lift up to get it, even if its Marinette!
Extra points if among the hired new models are Lila, (under yet another fake identity and 100% unable to hold herself from hitting on Chloe making Marinette-- TOTALLY NOT JEALOUS, shut up Alya!) and Adrien (Marinette's ex fiance, no one knows why they broke up, but we do, its because of the whole secret about his father's identity, in fact, that was why he would even accept, he knows Chloe needs to deal with how Aubrey made her feel in her own terms) and Zoe being just kinda there, as the voice of reason, but hardly able to say Chloe doesn't have a point...
Hello!
This idea made me giggle. I'm guessing this is a rom-com of sorts with reluctant frenemies to friends to lovers. Audrey getting her ass handed to her? Lila Redemption? Adrien dealing with his father's identity? Zoe being the voice of reason but also causing headaches for Chloe's 'stages in Denying I Have Feelings for Marinette'? Sounds perfect!
They go through awkward business meetings and tense coffee meet ups at first. I mean, who wouldn't? But then Chloe needs a dress and she is helping Marinette so obviously she's going to wear something she made, right? Cue cute and blush inducing interactions of measuring (Marinette just wants it accurate, okay?) and picking fabric (Chloe wants the perfect shade shut up Zoe it's not a date) and hey, if they ended up having dinner just because they're already there (it's definitely not a date) then...no one needs to know.
Lila is a little shit and is the first to pick up on their tension and because she's Lila (no matter the redemption) she'd want to see Marinette pissed. Adrien is torn on wanting to tell Chloe but this is the happiest and most glowing Chloe has been and Marinette has been through a lot to get where she is and they're on good terms and he wants the best for her so...maybe as long as Lila doesn't do anything harmful...
Zoe: You like Marinette.
Chloe: I don't-
Zoe: It's not a question. You drew a heart in her name, on a cheque. A cheque, Chloe.
Bonus:
Alya: Woah, loosen the hold, babe. That glass looks close to breaking.
Marinette: Wish it was Lila's fac- fans! Cause, they're annoying! Following her around... *cracks*....like a damn puppy -
Alya:...
Marinette:.....
Alya: Chloe's looking at you by the way.
Marinette: Aha! Take that, Lila- oh.
Marinette:....
Marinette: Fuck.
Alya: I'll get the wine.

Out of curiosity, and if you don’t mind me asking, what’s everyone’s favorite food and drinks in ladybug classic and the fashion club au?
ohh thats a big one, and one I havent put too much thought into. Its a little hard to like, parse "what french kids actually eat" from "what journalists want to sell you on what the french eat because french is fancy" from my research.
Marinette is a busy girl who likes quick snacks instead of full meals. Eating is a chore that gets in the way of her STUFF TO DO. I think she'd be fond of easy-to-grab easy-to-eat stuff like bread rolls, croissants, stuffed pastries (a side effect of being raised in a bakery) but in general is the kind of kid to just.. grab a bowl of rice (her mom has a rice cooker always packed with fresh rice on all the time) and/or throw whatever is leftovers on top (anything, ANYTHING.) Drinks on the other hand, she seems the type to be super into sparkling waters (strawberry) but also really likes boba teas, because the drink has an interactive element (chewy tapioca!) and it's sweet.
Felix is an odd one, he's raised on this.. plain, minimalist diet that's pretty high in protien because his dad expects him to excel in sports (boxing) so it's a lot of like.. chicken, and greens (no salt, no dressing or fluff) so he gets a little weird when given like.. spices, or flavor- in the "where have you BEEN all my life" sort of way. I really like to imagine he settles into curry as a food he likes- since it's pretty versatile, has lots of variants from savory to spicy, and it's easy to make. His drink of choice? Frilly, seasonal coffee drinks. I'm talking the raspberry-dark chocolate valentines, the pumpkin spices, the peppermints- his vice, his bribe. He gets reward money from placing well in some of his boxing tournaments (the few times his father gifts him anything) and that usually goes directly toward these drinks.
Flora kinda eats everything, even when one might not consider it edible: but she's pretty into fast food, because her family usually makes her eat really fancy foods in fancy ways (I always eat the food wrong, and mother gets mad at me.) Most times she'll just order out, with a preference for thicker deli-style sandwiches and pizza (excuse to invite friends over!) HOWEVER her drink of choice is tea! tea tea tea. She knows everything about all teas ever. She has every tea, foreign and domestic. Iced teas, hot teas, blended teas- she grows some of her own teas. She has special tea instruments, imported tea cake/preh boxes decorate her walls, several custom-made tea sets, and enough matcha to kill a man.
I dont know enough about Malagasy Cuisine to make claims for Alina, but she likes a few dishes from there- because her parents passed it down to her and Theo.. even though both were born and raised in France. Shes super chill though and tends to go with the flow on what others eat or what is offered to her, leaning towards spiced (read, not spiCY, spicED) foods rather than fatty or sweet. (i actually see her being really into like.. mexican [i'm explicitly thinking of those chamoy/chili powdered candies] or indian dishes). Almost as if she values the smell over the taste (saying this as if the two senses aren't intricately related LOL) as for drinks? I think she's someone who prefers bitter, like straight tea... maybe wine too? Iced coffee as a treat, but with only a splash of cream.
Alix is a mystery, but they seem to subsist off caffine and energy drinks. Food? Unknown. Kagami is a lot like Felix where her diet is very strict. But she probably likes fast food when nobody is looking. She adopts a craving for energy drinks from Alix.

I have.. such mixed feelings about the implications of this shot in the new trailer
Tumblr media
I wanna be hopeful that this means the protection charms dilemma is finally getting brought up and this is the result of Marinette having sat down with either Chat Noir or Alya and the show finally has her talk about how not ideally at all this was handled up til now from her/the hero's side because after the protection charms lost 90% of their initial crucial purpose the hero's just kinda act like the emotional value was the main purpose all along and no conversation or a second try from Ladybug, Chat Noir/Mister Bug or Scarabella needs to be concidered.
I wished the show would just name the reason for nothing having happened after "Dearest Family" to be that Marinette was/is too afraid of trying something different again at all after ShadowMoth overpowered her charms because she didn't wanted to give him another opportunity to grow in power yet again, to outsmart her powers and make her look bad in the public eyes.
Those are perfectly understandable reasons I could work with just fine and with those I would not take much issue with nothing being done again, if only the show actually would properly voice that and say that something Ladybug did simply wasn't well-handled with no "buts" and excuses about it from whatever angle or that her first attempt at something she just learned simply ended up not being good enough and that's it. Off to the second try then. It is baffling to me how much the show refuses to actually have that be the case and make it stick once in a while and not always sweep everything under the rug since Marinette really would need this experience with something just semi-important like Protection charms.
No I dont want to drink Marinette's tears for breakfast, I'm honestly just asking for an acknowledgement from the heros' side that the charms situation isn't ideal at all for quite a long time now and that they were suddenly asking alot of the civilian with this plan change of only focusing on the charms' emotional value, since the resistance through the charms can only be tested when the person is already Monarque's prey. And who of them is supposed to know what the hell HE is doing with his Transmission powers?
I don't even need a damn result, I just wanna see them talk about these things and do as much as brainstorming, which for all I care they can do while eating damn cake at one of their sleep overs or on a rooftop in fluffy blankets (btw this goes for Adrien and Alya too, I have very little respect for how the show had ALL the hero's handle this after "Dearest Family".)
I really don't like how almost.. entitled and without much hero's accountability at all this was handled by the narrative. We simply got NOTHING after 4x21 and in the big picture that resulted in the hero's basically saying "Hey this protection charm that had the power to protect you from the akuma when Shadowmoth/Monarque preys on you and emotionally manipulates you when you are in an emotional low-point and therefore extra vulnerable to him doesn't work like that anymore. So it's your job and your job alone to just not be vulnerable prey anymore, since we are not going to make a second attempt or take a different approach in anything no matter how ineffective our default ways have proven themselves to be by now."
What is currently happening has a bitter aftertaste of victim-blaming for me because there is 0 acknowledgement or communication from the heros' side and therefore I'm unwilling to give it a free pass through the understandable reasons I listed earlier and will elaborate further on later on. The charms were presented to the people as a way to fully protect them and the moment that stopped being true the heros seemingly just changed their minds, continued giving out the almost useless charms while making it now seem like it was the people's job all along to make Ladybug's overpowered charms work without guidance or any knowledge of Monarque's powers or anything magical in general.
Tumblr media
This is so frustrating because I'm barely asking for anything here. If the show had handled this with proper accountability a hero needs to take when a whole city relies on them through them simply talking about it and their reasons to each other (and somewhat the people) then I would have been fine with it. I'm not asking for groundbreaking results, I'm asking for the narrative to do its JOB by giving me the needed insight to these flawed characters mindsets through explicit dialogue and establishing scenes to enforce it. That's it. That's barely anything. Stop putting the understandable reasons into the subtext at most so fans can cherry-pick if they want the characters to be flawed or flawless, especially when it regards your main character.
How the hell are the the citizens supposed to know what Monarque is doing with those akumas and if he isn't powering them up depending on resistance level if already no-one knows how he is giving his victims their Miraculous powers? How are the people supposed to know that they even have a CHANCE of making this work when the heros' communicate nothing, change their mind on a whim and passively act like they did nothing wrong whatsoever and it's the civilians fault that the overpowered protection charms aren't keeping them save?
If it were that easy to just not be vulnerable prey anymore no protection charms would have ever been needed in the first place. Saying that it's ONLY the civilians' job to make the overpowered protection charms work now when the magical terrorist with emotion based powers intentionally preys on them while they are at their lowest is not something I have respect for AT ALL the way the show is pulling it til now.
The fact that up til now apparently NOTHING was allowed to be asked of the HEROS' again in such horrible circumstances when merely their FIRST attempt didn't turn out to be successful is audacious in my opinion. There is a fundamental difference between the civilians being ungrateful and needing to step up too & the magical, larger than life terror Monarque inflicts on the world and the civilians for a year now while using their mind and emotions against them simply REQUIRING magical protection and guidance that is actually reliable since non of this is anything close to normal.
I'm honestly not very willing to turn all of this onto the vulnerable civilian victims and demand that they alone pick up all the slack when they are at their lowest, alone with Monarque in their heads and on full blast of his manipulation and powers' influence, just because the heros want to entirely avoid acknowledging this and bringing up their shortcomings of bad times. I'm not watching a documentary, just do it please.
Tumblr media
I want to believe that the upcoming episode will actually solve my grievances here or at least part of it. Because there is so much potential here. That Ladybug, Chat Noir, Alya and maybe even the other members of the Resistance actually do basic hero work, have a conversation and BRAINSTORM on how to improve the charms situation that isn't working as it should. Maybe the shield thingy is a completely new thing and the result of the entire miraculous team. Dude, I will do cartwheels if that's gonna happen!
Or maybe it's an Evolution of Ladybug's protection charms that either gets manually added to it in the episode or - what I personally think is the case cause it would make the most sense for Marinette’s character - that the team works together to unlock a hidden stronger protection mode in the charms.
Maybe Marinette/Ladybug can continue her development of voicing her insecurities and we find out that the shield thingy here was her actual intention back in "Mr pigeon 72" when she created these charms straight out of her mind, and she admits that when she later saw that the protection charms do not protect the people the way she planned she got insecure out of fear that she hasn't mastered her creation powers the way she thought she had and then left it at that all together because she feared making things worse or disappointing everyone. Do you have any idea how okay I would be with that, nod my head and move on?
Maybe we can have Adrien/Chat Noir voice that he thought about bringing it up but he didn't know how to without possibly making Ladybug feel worse about herself. Or that he feared that if he brought it up she would ask him for help and he neither feels fit or suited to create such important things yet in Ladybug's stead nor does he dare yet to think about what the power of destruction could do to the civilians if they added his powers to the charms (to maybe undo the evilizing of the butterfly all together once the akuma touches the charm force field? Just an idea :I) cause he fears he can't control it 100%
Or this regards both Adrien and Alya. They both are depicted having the same insecurities as Marinette of fearing to not live up to what a Ladybug miraculous holder should be able to do "flawlessly". Have them VOICE that this is the reason for why both of them didn't try to create something themselves. This would literally VALIDATE Marinette/Ladybug not doing anything since 4x21!
Come on, give me something! PLEASE!
--
Oh and...
*SIGH*
I'm begging this show to not have M. Damocles be the only/ first one to develop the protection shield as civilian.
Miraculous, don't.
Don't do it.
DON'T.
Don't turn this into a situation of Ladybug's protection charms having been overpowered by ShadowMoth, who is an adult in a leadership position, and have it be solved by M. Damocles as key-character who is an adult in a freaking leadership position! Don't make me be petty again about Su-Han's insulting treatment in Marinette's girlboss guardian narrative. Don't prove him right after the shit you pulled in season 4 and "Multiplication".

I’m watching ‘Ladybug and Chat Noir: Awakening’ (you can watch a really bad quality bootleg recording on most pirating sites right now), these are my reactions while I’m watching . A lot of the points won’t make sense unless you’ve seen it too I’m sorry 😭
If you don’t want to watch the movie but want a vague idea of the plot, here u go
⚠️NEW MIRACULOUS MOVIE SPOILERS⚠️
- master fu is soo dramatic
- THIS IS A MUSICAL???
- whoever the singer is for marinette sounds so noticeably different to her it is throwing me off
- the character designs are so cute
- brand placement: 1
- Adrien is brooding so hard with his headphones. I bet he’s listening to something emo
- omg gabriel agreste backstory right away
- Luka cameo
- whyd they make plagg a fart monster
- there are more than 4 background character designs this is crazy
- whyd they make gabe kinda fine
- gabes first musical number as hawkmoth is so insanely Dr Facilier
- they made him such a good villain omfg I’m actually rooting for him he’s got the whole ‘a villain who would sacrifice the world to save her’ thing going for him
- oooo they have the mime villain from season 1 (?), and they are actually showing how op his power is. He could create literally anything and he just made a wall and a gun, he couldve done so much more. They did him justice they made him kinda fine too very Danny Bailey from Schmigadoon
- chat noir calling himself a sidekick is my villain origin story
- didn’t know how much I needed an action montage with a rock cover of the miraculous ladybug song until now
- a slither of adrienette in the montage
- brand placement: 2
- I’m an hour in and chat noir hasnt called ladybug milady ONCE
- oh my god they have the play fighting trope where they end up pinning eachother against a wall this is so them
- I don’t think the songs are very movie like, the words are pronounced like radio songs so you can’t really understand what they’re saying a lot of the time without captions (I don’t have captions 💔)
- the romance feels a lil rushed. Because they spent the first half hour almost exclusively on marinette and setting up her character/insecurities/etc and all the romantic development was in a montage. Now there’s a love song and theyre in love and it feels very underdeveloped to be at this stage already
- this song is cute though I can’t make out the majority of the words but in-love ladynoir content has my heart
- no marichat so far . Waiting patiently
- they haven’t set the love square up to its full potential 💔💔
- ok nevermind they kind of have, ladybug rejected chat noir for adrien, she asked adrien out and he rejected her for ladybug. But there has been no ladybug + adrien interactions or chat noir + marinette interactions yet
- omg gabriel adrien angst omg gabe is so much less of a dislikable character, they actually gave him some depth . Adrien is full on yelling at Gabriel and gabe actually looks like he cares about his son
- this bootleg is terrible quality but even with the bad quality the quality is so obviously good
- I’ve gotten used to the marinette singing voice and now I just love it
- this movie is so dramatic with the love songs and songs about insecurities, I feel like it’s that movie ladybug made fun of in the show
- GABE AKUMATISED HIMSELF AND ITS SO COOL THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT WEIRD IPAD VILLAIN HE WAS IN THE SHOW
- adrien just said ‘the less interested you are, the more they run after you 😒’ because ladybug called him for help after she rejected him😭😭😭😭 bro rlly said all girls are the same
- idk if this bootleg is just clipped together but it keeps randomly turning french with no subtitles and it’s confusing me so much. I don’t know french, why must they be in paris
- these boss fights are so well animated
- chat noir is so bitter god damn
- ladynoir angst but it’s actually high stakes im loving this
- LADYBUG SAVE YOUR CAT WHAT ARE YOU DOING
- SHE LET HIM FALL WHAT
- gabe just turned the water they fell in into lava this is crazy
- they just turned french again I have no idea what they’re saying
- MARINETTE / HAWKMOTH SHOWDOWN
- nevermind
- I’m sorry marinette would pick this dialogue to shreds it’s so corny
- GOT THE TINIEST SLITHER OF MARICHAT I AM HAPPY
- YES YES YES GABRIEL FORCED TO FACE THE FACT THAT ADRIEN IS CHAT NOIR
- HES SELF REFLECTING!!! REALISING EVERYTHING HE DID WAS INSANE AND HURT ADRIEN WHEN HE TOLD HIMSELF HE WAS HELPING HIM. THIS IS WHAT THE SEASON 5 FINALE SHOULDVE BEEN
- THIS IS PERFECT
- this is what ppl wanted for the show . adrien being resentful at first, Gabriel hit in the face with his own guilt and mistakes, having a genuine moment of self reflection, adrien forgiving him and gabe changing instead of getting his wish and being remembered as a hero, plus all of paris finding out hawkmoth was Gabriel, etc. I love this
- brand placement: 3
- omg there’s a masquerade ball everyone looks so good
- so marinette knows that adrien is chat noir but he doesn’t know shes ladybug yet ? That better change in the next 2 minutes
- HE KNOWS!
- marinette is so pretty I’m actually so happy with this
- OHHHH NATALIE VILLAIN ARC ????
- oh theyre talking in french again I have no idea what this ending means
FINAL THOUGHTS!
obvs it isn’t canon but I love this adaptation. The superpowers are portrayed as powerful as they actually are, there’s more drama and angst which I needed, the timeline is VERY different to the show. Marinette stands up for herself to chloe the same day that ladybug and chat noir reveal their identities, so it’s like the origins episode of season 1 mixed with one of the various identity reveals from season 4. Also she’s not friends with any of her class other than alya, adrien and nino, so it’s also kind of pre-origins vibes. Idk, it was really good and I can’t wait to watch it in better quality, with captions, and without ads playing every half hour
Also I’m forever thankful that there was no lila rossi storyline

Actually going through the bibles you can see a couple stages of like. This weird grey area between Felix and Adrien, as they developed and Adrien fully evolves into his own character? But there's definitely overlap as they slowly construct Adrien out of Felix. It's weird, especially given how firm Astruc was on them being two definite, separate characters? There's one where Adrien is in a similar outfit to his canon one but with a darker color scheme, and his personality is still kind of rough around the edges, like he hasn't quite shaken off Felix's bitterness. Felix's cane from his final drafts also carries over. But the clothes change isn't the only reason I'm flagging this as the official beginning of Adrien: it also mentions an overprotective fashion designer father, working as a model, and Adrien's goal is explicitly stated to be wanting to make friends and fit in; Felix is clearly more independent, has the formal suit we see him wearing in the PV and in canon, and his aims are strictly academic with no time for social interaction. Mostly it's just, from Felix to Adrien, watching the drafts depict him as less and less assertive. Loses the close, explicitly developed friendship with Marinette pre-romance.
Yeah it actually kinda is weird to see.
The way it's always been described is that they had Felix, decided they didn't like him, and rebuilt Adrien using some tidbits from Felix.
But there is the progression here.

*puts on nerdy glasses* Uhm, actually, the episode Gabriel Agreste clearly showed that she was still bitter about the break-up, as there's a scene where she narrows her eyes at him when they're left alone.
(The post anon is refering to)
Yeah you're right, I kinda phrased my idea wrong.
It's true that Kagami is pissed about the breakup because she feels like Adrien has personally wronged her by never being available or generally letting her take all the lead without putting any effort into the relationship himself. We not only see that in Gabriel Agreste but also risk for example when she scolds him for being a spineless coward.
But in Mr. Pigeon 72, she is shown to "realize" that Marinette is Adrien's true love, that they are "meant to be" and therefore just kinda assumes that Adrien will treat Marinette with all the love and respect she deserves, despite him not doing anything to proove that to Kagami. She just kinda accepts this as the truth without questioning anything. That's what I meant. Kagami just instantly supports the ship without Adrien having to proove he is good enough to date Mari.

What would you think if an evilized villain (maybe a wishmaker-like villain or maybe even a villain that's unrelated to the butterfly miraculous) caused Chloe and Zoe to switch bodies somehow, and nobody fully understands what's going on, so Zoe (in Chloe's body) is taken by Audrey back to New York, despite Zoe desperately trying to explain things. But Chloe enters a fugue state (heavily due to trauma caused by the neglect of her parents) and genuinely thinks she's Zoe, and is even able to recall many of the things Zoe did due to being in Zoe's body. The class thinks “Zoe's” change in behavior is due to the psychological effects of method acting, since “Zoe” is playing Chloe in Astruc's new movie, but they gradually convince “Zoe” to let them help her relearn how to be “herself” again. Meanwhile, in New York, Zoe is trying to get back to Paris, but when she gets there, “Zoe” thinks she’s there to try to hurt Marinette.
Eventually, after listening to “Chloe”, Marinette starts to suspect that “Chloe” might be telling the truth, so she decides that she must test “Chloe” and “Zoe”. She fakes being in danger to see how they react. “Zoe” reacts slightly faster than “Chloe”, so Marinette comes to the conclusion that “Chloe” is lying and that “Chloe” has an evil and manipulative plan. Marinette thinks that “Chloe” must have picked up a few tricks from Lila, because she thinks no version of Chloe could possibly react faster than Zoe when it comes to protecting her. So Audrey takes “Zoe” back to New York again to “correct” her after “Zoe” fails to convince anyone of the truth.
10 years later, “Zoe” gets seriously injured after fighting a villain when Ladybug isn’t around, which causes “Zoe” to not have long to live. Then Ladybug accidentally stumbles upon the truth about “Zoe” while trying to help “Zoe” using magical powers. Ladybug decides that the moral thing to do is to switch Chloe and Zoe back to their original bodies. Once Zoe gets her body back, she blames Chloe for her impending death and for leaving her with 10 years of torment, while Chloe got off scot-free. When Lila gets defeated, Zoe steals the Butterfly Miraculous to get her hands on Ladybug and Catnoir’s miraculouses, hoping to “make things right”. Zoe gets defeated by the heroes (including Chloe) and Ladybug manages to cure Zoe’s injuries.
It really is an interesting idea.
I'm a sucker for identity-switching and shenanigans. It's a bit complicated, what you're describing and this whole story will be full of unreliable narrators if it's through Chloe's pov and others, which is always an opportunity for fun teists and turns. There would also have to be a lot of conflict and introspection for "Zoe" because even when she was Chloe, in her time away from her mom in Paris, had influences affecting her everyday behavior to act the way she did. And it would be a shame to miss everything that Zoe as "Chloe" is missing out on to see the bitterness and resentment build up.
I'm not the biggest fan of a time skip as big as ten years, as it kinda waters down the intensity of emotion people would feel when the final reveal takes place. But if you could make it work and it pleases you, you should. These are my opinions after all and I have preferences as anyone else does.

Okay I'm dropping more songs for odnjlb now because I can
She don't know, Interlude II and Curtain Call by Zach Callison - I just can't not imagine Adrien like this thinking of Ladybug (I love Zach's EP give it a listen to it if you feel like you need an emotional rollercoaster)
Interlude IV by Zach Callison - now this one feels like Marinette and everyone telling her she shouldn't be thinking of revenge. (Also yes I kinda recommended half an album for this)
Killer in the mirror by Set it off - just MHHHHHHHHHH Marinette and Adrien but for different reasons
Play with fire by Sam Tinnez (ft Yatch Money) - Marinette about to be akumatized be like
Can't cheat death by The Ballroom Thieves - just listen to it, you'll get it
I will send more eventually and I will stop now because I just noticed that it's almost 4am here lol
@lesbitorte i listened to all of these last night & got so much wild inspiration for my fic it was like i was hallucinating
She don't know - 100% Sadrien, look at him all angsty that he can't be on his lady's side
Interlude ii - more angsty adrien but i'm sensing he's also bitter about being a senti: "my shadow, he's holding a gun with those hands i once possessed." it's like poetry!
Curtain call - the latin?!?! WOW. in my headcanon adrien studied latin (prob bc gabe made him)! "take my hand, hold my shame. take a bow, they won't look away." it makes me think of how angry he is that he's forced to put on such a villainous performance. this one hit hard.
Interlude iv - this felt like i was listening to a story or a song from a musical! and you're right i see murder!nette in this & everyone telling her to chill. but she's like no, "years put to waste for all I hate, they'll all know (monarque's) fate." get it marinette!!
Killer in the mirror - ooh this one was so cool! it's definitely dark!ladynoir (ladywalker?). they're both in such a dark place & the mental health is def not there because they think they're all alone and that's hardened them 💔
Play with fire - definitely rash!marinette. completely matches the vibe of her plunging headfirst into her wild hatred or something else with raging passion later on
Can't cheat death - i love this one yes! shameboree recommended it to me & the fact that all 3 of us think it fits the fic just makes me so happy. like i wish i could draw so i could make a odnlb to this song!!
anyways good soup. i put them all on my playlist ❤️

But I promise you this, I'll always look out for you.
But I promise you this, I'll always look out for you. by xSugaritos
It was hard to imagine how much the people of Paris cared about her. Going so far as to support her even now.
But in the cold, bitter rain of Paris, she felt so small.
Maybe she had always felt this way. Maybe she was finally catching up to reality.
That no matter what she did or who she was, she'd never truly make the right choices.
She'd always stay as a small dot in the vast ocean of blue and gold.
And maybe it was better that way. .・・゜.゜・゜・..

Navier: I asked Heinrey who the second most attractive woman alive was, since, according to him, I'm number one. This man said "your reflection".
Ergi: Damn. I'm writing this down.
McKenna: Did you ask who's third on this list?
Heinrey: Her shadow.

Burned Beginnings, chapter 1
Novel decided to do Adrienette April on a whim. Each post until the end of April (or such is the plan) will have 3 prompts in it.
She also discovered she’s very rusty. Bear with me here. XD
Next>>
1. AU
Marinette had thought she’d grown used to Chloe’s bullying, having to had endure it since they were little. However, with high school came a new name that became a regular part of Chloe’s vocabulary, alongside “hot” and “sexy” and “dreamboat”.
“And Marinette would never catch the eye of someone so perfect.”
Honestly, Marinette had thought she was over it, but on a particularly bad day, she’d snapped back at Chloe.
“Well, clearly he isn’t that perfect if he fawns over someone whose only redeeming quality is pretending to be pretty.”
That had led to a fire alarm getting pulled and Marinette left to blame for it. Anyone who tried to come to her defense was shut down, and Marinette had been suspended.
Which had started an all-out war.
After being stuck at home, wrongfully, for three solid days, Marinette had snapped. She’d decided that if Chloe was going to build a bonfire and poor on the gasoline that she would be there with a match. By senior year, Marinette’s record had taken a hit for it but Chloe’s reputation was in the toilet.
Marinette would take what she could get.
However, she supposed she hadn’t fully thought out the consequences. As much as she played with fire, she should have realized she’d get burned sooner or later.
And she did. Third degree.
We regret to inform you your application has been denied.
Those were words she grew tired of seeing yet came back from every school she applied to. With that in mind, she’d called up her girl friends to tell them what had happened.
“Hey, Marinette,” Alya had said upon seeing the letters. “Don’t get me wrong, I feel really bad for you. But… I did warn you—”
“I get it,” Marinette had surrendered, knowing that Alya was completely right. “You tried to warm me of the consequences, and now I’m paying for them.”
The girls had slipped into a moment of silence before Alix spoke up. “Hey, I can ask Max if he can do a little digging so you at least know why, yeah?”
Marinette had raised a brow but agreed. “Only if he’s not busy with his own college stuff.”
“Oh please, he’s too smart for college. He started up some robotics company in his free time and is already making bank on it.”
It took a week for Max to come back with a full report. Marinette had to give him props for working fast as he did.
“Hacking into the system was the first thing I could think of,” he’d explained. “In the side notes, there was mention of your attendance record and suspensions.”
“They were all wrongful suspensions,” Alix had countered.
“Doesn’t matter to the school,” Max had said with a shrug. “But even then, I thought there had to be more to this than just attendance. There were other students who had the same notes yet were accepted. So I shifted focus to digging up background on all the directors of the school. After hacking a few emails, I discovered Audrey Bourgeois happens to know a lot of directors or administration members in all the fashion schools of France. Considering the contents of most of those emails, it has become clear that Marinette was wrongfully barred from every school she’d applied to. And that there’s nothing that can be done about it because we only discovered such scandal through highly illegal means.”
“So…” Alya had begun, turning her attention to Marinette. “Where does that leave you, M?”
Marinette’s lips had pursed in thought. It was funny how things turned out, because despite her anger, she somehow had been peace with what she was faced with. “I think that the last place I want to be is in an industry full of liars and people who use their words to manipulate anyone they damn well please.”
That was how she ended up working full-time in her parents’ bakery. They never said a word about it, but she knew they were disappointed. Of course they weren’t mad about her still being here and working in the bakery with them, and she knew her parents still loved her more than anything.
But she knew that with as many dreams as she had and had shared with them, they were disappointed on her surrendering it all.
“Sorry, Maman, Papa,” she whispered into the empty kitchen as she plopped the baguettes she formed onto a baking tray. “Just give me a little time to figure things out. Seems like lofty dreams are a lot easier to crush than I realized.”
 2. Rebellion
A son can only bear the world of their parent’s expectations for so long. He wasn’t Atlas, but after a few years of acting like him, Adrien decided to dump the globe. To hell if it broke. He’d smirk in satisfaction at his father’s disappointment.
At the very least, the fact he no longer had the weight of the world of his shoulders made the far-too-common disappointment lecture easier to bear.
His strategic rebellion had started harmless enough. At sixteen with a rapidly growing forced modeling career, he’d given his father an ultimatum: he gets to grow out his hair, or it all goes. It had been shocking the amount of power the razor in his hand had given him. It was the perfect harmless threat. His father had been furious, throwing a fit about Adrien acting like a child, but after being gaslit for so long, Adrien had finally come to realize the abusive techniques for what they were. And he wasn’t going to roll over and take it any longer.
That day had ended with Adrien being grounded but ultimately the victor of their stand-off.
After that, he’d begun ditching certain events. He’d always liked fencing, so he never ditched those lessons, but attendance for his home-school lessons, mandarin lessons, and piano lessons had all been decided on a whim. His father had hardly been pleased by this, but to Adrien, that was the point. The lectures soon washed into one another so much that Adrien could practically recite the words that roll off his father’s tongue verbatim. He’d come to realize they were strategically meant to hurt. To humiliate. And as such, he’d stopped taking them personally.
Then came the fun part.
He got earrings. Honestly, Adrien hadn’t really cared for the piercings one way or another. In one way, there were a hassle, and caring for new piercings was a pain in the butt. However, they had been worth it to see his dad so royally pissed off.
Then came the ditching of certain photoshoots. There was a reason Adrien had held off on this one for so long: he cared about the people running the shoot. There was no reason they needed to be collateral in this battle between him and his father. After all, they were just employees doing their job; Adrien didn’t want them to suffer for his rebellion. With that in mind, Adrien had planned out his absences of these photoshoots. Again, he didn’t want to drag anyone else into his mess, so he had always organized a replacement model. Shoot would always go on, just not as planned.
And that was enough to drive his father mad.
It always put a smile on Adrien’s face.
The last touch was an unexpected one. He hadn’t even thought about going this far. Yet, a friend of his not only put the idea in his head, but gave him the art to go with it.
“Is that a tattoo?”
Oh, how he wished he would have taken a picture of his father’s face. The large black cat surrounded in a green, wispy smoke that wrapped around his forearm was truly a work of art. He’d had to think carefully about this decision, but in the end, he quite liked it.
“Yeah. I’m eighteen; I can ink myself if I want to. Why? Is that a problem?”
Adrien might be wearing a cat on his arm, but the grin on his lips was downright wolfish.
Eventually, it all had come to a head and blew up in his face. Adrien couldn’t say he’d been surprised. In fact, he had been fully expecting it. He’d already found an apartment to rent and had begun sneaking most of his important things over there before his father could kick him out. So when Adrien found himself kicked to the curb as soon as he was handed his general education certificate, Adrien had been prepared.
But mostly, he was free.
What a joyous day it was.
However, now that he was free, he knew he needed a job. Not because he needed the money, per se, but because it was time he started acting like the average adult. He never got to go to school, so now, it was time to pick up a mundane, first job that everyone hated but would “serve him well later in life”. Mostly, it would just be something normal.
The easy places to apply were food shops and retail stores. He’d work one for a while before deciding what his next life step would be. Chloe had been quick to offer him a job at her father’s hotel, but Adrien was vehemently against the idea. Over the span of his rebellion, Chloe’s behavior and attitude towards him had grown notably worse, and he had a feeling cutting ties with her would be his next step in life.
In the end, he’d scored a job he definitely was underqualified for. He’d applied partly out of spite and partly because ‘why not?’ He’d heard about this bakery enough times from Chloe to know the “cruel bitch who did nothing but mercilessly harass her” lived here, and that was enough to pique Adrien’s curiosity. At a bakery as popular as that, though, he hadn’t been sure he’d get a call. And when he did, he knew he would do everything he could to present himself as a reliable and respectable man eager to work, but he never thought he’d end up hitting it off with the owner.
Which somehow ended up with him agreeing to work at Tom and Sabine’s Patisserie.
Going into that job, he swore to himself he would do what he could to prove himself worthy. He knew there had to have been better applicants, so Adrien didn’t want to disappoint the very kind owners who dared give him a chance. Soon, his days were spent working hard while covered in flour and surrounded by bread all day. Well, bread and all the sharp and hot objects in your average kitchen.
He just didn’t think that would include a wicked sharp and smoking hot young lady that happened to be his bosses’ daughter.
 3. Game Night
“Mama, Papa, please go. You two hardly ever get out of the house.”
Marinette watched her maman put a hand over the mouthpiece of her phone while her papa turned to her. “But I’ll be busy that night. We have a massive order scheduled for the next day.”
“I can handle that,” Marinette quickly countered with a grin. “You know I’m a night owl, anyway. I’ll get it done, and you two can go enjoy game night with your friends.”
Her parents spared each other a glance. “Are you sure about that, Marinette?” Maman asked.
“Positive. Papa already talks to the bread too much, so he really should talk to people for a change. And while you have to deal with people all day, I know you want more than to just have short conversations filled with small talk. So please, go out and have a social life for once.”
With one last look, her parents relented. With a smile, her mother took her hand off the phone. “We’ll be there.”
Papa turned to her with a grin. “I was going to spend that time teaching Adrien how to handle those orders. I can leave teaching him in your hands, right?”
Her grin fell. Adrien Agreste. What the hell a washed-out model was doing working at her parents’ bakery was beyond her. Admittedly, over the last month she’d been working with him, the most she’d say is that maybe he wasn’t too bad a guy. Papa certainly sung his praises. But that still didn’t answer the question of why he was working here of all places. After all, he was Chloe’s friend and suspected lover.
“Don’t think I don’t see that look on your face, Marinette,” her maman chastised. She’d hung up and set her phone down already, fully giving her attention to her daughter. “No matter your personal feelings, you really should give him a chance.”
“He’s a good kid,” Papa said. “Maybe a little rough around the edges, but I can tell he really does want to learn and do his best.”
Marinette sighed. This wasn’t the first time this talk had happened. She remembered having a talk with her parents after his first interview. There were a few other people who were far more qualified for the job, but Papa said he liked Adrien’s personality and spirit the best. So in the end, all Marinette’s objections had fallen upon deaf ears.
She sighed. “Fine. I’ll give him a chance.”
With a smile that made Marinette loath to disappoint him, her papa patted her head affectionately. “Thank you, Marinette. I think you’d like him if you got to know him.”
Not likely. “I’ll do my best, Papa.”
“Really, Marinette,” her maman warned. “Unless you have a valid reason, you need to put aside your feelings for the sake of the bakery running smoothly. Can you manage that?”
Appropriately chastised, Marinette bowed her head in embarrassment. Maman brought up a good point: Marinette shouldn’t let her anger towards Adrien affect the bakery. Her parents didn’t deserve that. “Yes, Maman. I’m sorry.”
With a smile, her maman came up and wrapped her in a hug. “Thank you, Marinette.”
Marinette hugged her back. “No, thank you, Maman and Papa, for everything. I won’t let you down.”
Papa wrapped his arms around both her and Maman. “Thank you, sweetheart. We love you.”
“I love you, too.”

Note
People complain about Marinette being too obsessed w/ Adrien, but as a 14 year old I was just as dumb in the opposite way. I had a crush on my sister’s friend and was like “oh no feelings” so I memorized his entire schedule so I could avoid him. I studied what he talked about most often on social media so that it wouldn’t look like I cared about him and I’d only know obvious things. I mispronounced his last name when I had to say it. So I sympathize with a lot of Marinette’s stupidity.
Huh. So it IS somewhat realistic then.
Honestly with Marinette it does get kinda old how much revolves around her having a crush on Adrien and being unable to talk to him because of it, but I only really have a MAJOR problem with it when it has negative consequences on her behavior, especially if it causes her to lash out at others.
Making birthday presents for him through his fiftieth birthday, and seeming to actually be worried about finishing it fairly quickly? A bit much, but it’s a constructive outlet for her feelings that doesn’t harm anyone at all. Honestly one of the best things she could do if she needed to do something Adrien-related.
Having pictures of him all over her room and drooling over that ad? A bit much again, but it’s not hurting anyone, and he’s sorta a celebrity crush as well as a regular crush, and that’s not too unusual for a celebrity crush.
Having his schedule memorized? Well honestly you kinda have to if you want to be able to invite Adrien to anything, he’s just so booked up.
Breaking into his locker and stealing his phone in order to delete an embarrassing voicemail? Look I get why she did it, but it was still a violation of privacy for her own personal gain. At least when she stole Alya’s phone, while it was a bad idea, it was for Alya’s benefit.
Following Lila and Adrien back to the Manor in order to try to keep an eye on the situation? Lila’s a proven threat. She’s right to be concerned. Though trying to scale the wall to spy on her through the window was NOT well thought through. There’s very little she could tell from there, and she couldn’t intervene even if she could. I still think it was irresponsible of the fireman to help her with that.
...And then there’s Animaestro and Ikari Gozen. She crosses a line in those episodes, from “crush that is a bit much, but is ultimately harmless” to “What the Hell, Hero?”
In Animaestro she agrees to participate in a plan to ruin Kagami’s outfit to the point that she leaves, either because she needs to change and she doesn’t have a spare outfit/can’t go back home and change and get back in time, or to just make her so miserable that she leaves of her own accord because she’s having such a terrible time, it’s unclear which... and then steal her seat next to Adrien. Granted, Marinette didn’t come up with the plan, but she still knew what it was and agreed to participate, and even when confronted about it being a bad idea by Tikki, she still didn’t rethink things. She WAS in an anxiety spiral about Adrien and Kagami getting married and leaving Paris, but that still doesn’t justify trying to hurt someone whose only crime was being close to Adrien. And even by the end of the episode, she apparently didn’t learn that harming someone, physically or emotionally, just for being close to Adrien was a bad idea - just that Chloe’s plans always fail so she shouldn’t participate in them. And she’s still rewarded with a seat next to Adrien!
...Yeah I’ve got a lot of Animaestro salt. Seriously, what the hell?!
And Ikari Gozen is even worse. She’s not even in that big of an anxiety spiral that time, and she comes up with her plan entirely of her own accord, even while Tikki’s trying to stop her. She doesn’t even justify it with trying to save Adrien or protect him from something, she straight-up thinks that Kagami is cute and smart and brilliant. She doesn’t think Kagami’s gonna do something bad at all, it’s JUST because she thinks that if Kagami gets to win here and spend time with Adrien, they’ll be more likely to get together, and that she CAN’T let that happen. So she intentionally pretends to want to be friends with her all the while trying to screw her over as best she can. That’s... really not good. Like it’s pretty emotionally manipulative, pretending to want to be someone’s friend while secretly trying to screw them over. And rooting through Kagami’s phone when Kagami trusted her just to use it for taking a selfie? Not cool. And she seemed so hung up on the idea that she could have been texting with Adrien, as if that was any of her business. Even when Tikki calls her out on it (again), Marinette ignores her objections.
Marinette DOES realize that she’s been a massive jerk and tries to make it up to Kagami, but it really should never have gotten that far in the first place, especially since Tikki called her out and gave her a wake-up call of sorts.
There are other more mild examples of her crush interfering, like in Desperada with her ditching Luka as soon as Adrien walked into the room, or investigating when the boys skip out on planting trees and tries to crash the party, but that’s still just normal obsessive crush level. Bit annoying, but I get it.
Basically while I find her level of obsession with Adrien kinda annoying at times, I only really salt it when it crosses the line into making her cross lines that harm others, especially if it also happens to be illegal.
I still like Marinette generally, but her obsession has gone beyond “normal stupidity” a few times this season, and it’s not good. I’m actually sorta relieved that it looks like she’ll be taking a break from that in season 4 because I think she kinda needs it to sort out her feelings and give the infatuation a chance to calm down, then maybe trying again once she’s better able to handle her responses to her anxiety over her feelings for Adrien. Because getting tongue-tied around him is one thing. Trying to manipulate situations so that potential love interests (who there isn’t a good, legitimate reason to try and keep away beyond your own feelings for the person) can’t spend time with your crush is not.
Side Note: I’m betting that if Adrien was ever told about the actions Marinette took in Animaestro and Ikari Gozen, he’d just flat-out not believe that person because he thinks too highly of her to believe that she’d attempt to keep him from one of his friends out of jealousy. Especially with how much he hates being isolated, and she sorta WAS attempting to isolate him from Kagami in order to keep her from having his attention instead of herself.
