Murder On The Orient Express (2017) 9/10
Tumblr media
After a passenger is murdered on the Orient Express, famous detective Hercule Poirot must investigate the other eleven passengers to find out who the killer is. Based on the novel by Agatha Christie.
The plot is straightforward, it literally says what happens in the title, which, isn't the worst thing. Take 'Snakes On A Plane' for example. The same idea, and it's a good movie too.
The cast is very diverse, with different names, such as Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Leslie Odom Jr., Kenneth Branagh, Kevin Bateman, Josh Gad, Willem Dafoe, and Penelope Cruz. I feel like they did a great job with he casting. It's like Ocean's Eleven; none of them look like they would hang out with each other.
The scenery is beautiful; the mountains and the countryside are gorgeous, sharply contrasting what will happen to one of the characters later on.
There's anticipation as the audience is left to wonder who could have murdered the victim. There's frustration at not knowing who it is. There's fear, and even doubt, as some of the characters look like they wouldn't be capable of murder.
Although, the pace is slow, and there's a lot of dialogue, but most of the anticipation comes from the mystery of who the killer might be.
Because the characters are so different from one another, it's shocking when the revelation comes to light. One of them is devoted to God, for example, and she's just as much a suspect because she sleeps near the area that the crime occured.
I'll be honest, I've seen this movie two times now, and I'd watch it a third time. It's not so action packed, if that's your cup of tea, but there's tension, there's drama, and it's a Who-Dunnit, type premise. Stellar cast, too.
Totally worth seeing, and worth your time.

Sometimes I forget the stories I write... And as I returned reading Bodyguard by @battleshipgarcy (Click on the story name to read Bodyguard, Excellent story, I highly recommend it! You won't regret it!) I then remembered that story I wrote about a young woman in her 20's who's apparently the daughter of famous actor Willem Dafoe.
She's a real pest and living life on the fast lane after her father moved her to Las Vegas... Willem has no other choice than hiring Antun, an ex soldier turned Boodyguard for Hollywood Celebrities, so he'd keep an eye on her, avoiding for her to do anything stupid... You guess it, Antun is portrayed by the Gorgous Goran Visnjic ( I can see my boyfriend rolling his eyes at me...)
I can't post it on AO3 as it belongs to no fandom that I know of ahha! It's only a story I came up with! A big thank you to @battleshipgarcy for the inspiration ahah!

Chapter 1 : Sundown
Michelle Elizabeth Dafoe was living the high life in Las Vegas. The spoiled 25-year-old daughter of famous actor Willem Dafoe, Michelle spent her days swimming in her pool and indulging in all of the city's luxuries, instead of working in order to earn a living for herself… Of course the young woman had a dancing studio, not to be mistaken for pole dancing by the way, Michelle was certainly not the type of woman to swirl around a pole… It was just a dance studio where people would come for fun, and workout, but she was obviously not earning enough from her dancing classes to keep on with her lavish lifestyle. Was it as worse as a woman who stayed at home while the husband was at work at this point?
She had short blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, and a petite frame that made her the center of attention wherever she went. But behind her perfect façade, Michelle was a spoiled and rebellious young woman. She LIKED being the center of attention, always did since her first steps taken as a baby. She grew up as being the youngest offspring in the house as Jack had already left when she turned 5 years old as Jack was 16 years older than her. Not close to her mother, Michelle always did consider herself to be Daddy’s little girl…
Willem had always been proud of his daughter… But she loved to party, drink, and have a good time, but she drew the line at drugs though. She had seen how it had destroyed the lives of those around her and promised herself she would never go down that path. However, that didn't mean she was a good girl, well she wasn’t exactly a bad girl, either! She often found herself in trouble and causing headaches for her father… Willem grew worried over the last few months as Michelle convinced her father to get her a luxurious mansion on the west side of Las Vegas; the richest Suburban of Summerlin. Willem knew that Las Vegas wasn’t any better than Los Angeles, but she needed to carry herself away and Willem wanted her to get better after her relationship with that man.
He had accepted to buy her this mansion in Las Vegas, but things escalated quickly for Michelle as her life revolved around going out to these EDM parties organized by Sirius XM whenever she could.
When it wasn’t these Dance Parties, it was wandering around on the Strip, intoxicated by the alcohol, thinking that she could get away with everything in life because of her famous last name. She was Michelle Dafoe, she was as cute as a button and her short pale blonde hair gave her this gamine look and she knew that she was prettier than the average woman. For Michelle it was quite a thrill to be recognized wherever she was going, because let’s face it, she was proud to be Willem’s daughter.
Willem knew why she had moved away from Los Angeles in the last year. The fact that Michelle wasn’t getting along with Willem’s first wife, her mother, was the obvious reason for her departure from the city of angels. But the truth behind her escape from the glamor of Los Angeles was because of a man… That very man had taken her heart effortlessly and crushed it out between his hands like a rotten fruit.
From the top of her 5’2” silhouette, Michelle swore to herself that no other men would ever, ever humiliate her like this again. She had fallen in love with the wrong kind of man and she had learned it the hard way, always saying that hitting her face right into concrete would’ve been less painful. He was 48 and she was 25, and he saw the opportunity of exploring her secret garden..
Even though Willem’s rebellious daughter had a reputation of being a spoiled brat, she wasn’t the kind of woman to sleep with every man crossing her path… It was the total opposite as Michelle loved being desired by men. They can look, but they can’t touch was her motto, or as most people would call it, she was a prick tease.
She had a special preference for men that were old enough to be her father, and this is something Willem had fathomed years ago when Michelle was only 15 and that she was deeply infatuated with a man in his 40’s that worked with him on stage…Fortunately for her, the feeling of her crush wasn’t reciprocated and the teenage girl came to forget him as month passed by.
Willem knew that being an actor took its toll on his daughter, as he had been a very absent father in her life due to work and Michelle tried to fill this void by getting attached toward older guys…At least, this is what Willem concluded after reading many books about this. She was young, and naive, thought Willem. He had seen her behavior toward these men… Michelle had a certain pleasure from being looked at by these men. She knew that deep inside of them they wanted her, but this is where she would draw the line. “Go jerk off, it shall pass…” She would say! She wanted to be labeled as an unreachable woman, thinking that the sun was shining out of her ass!!
She was smart though, she wasn’t driving around in a luxurious lamborghini, or any other famous exotic cars. She hated these sorts of cars with passion, thinking it was cliché to be driving around Sin City in those Exotic cars, and plus it was attracting the furtive eyes of the paparazzi. She loved being the center of attention at events, but not on the street when she was by herself in a car, or when she was shopping and doing errands. At some point, her intimacy was important for her as well.
Jake visited his father as Willem was off from work, he had a 2 month hiatus until the filming of the new movie would restart. Michelle’s brother had learned from a trustable source that Michelle would sometimes go out in the clubs or whatever events she was accepting to go, and that she would come home with her car!! This is where she had crossed the line by driving under the influence of alcohol! It was just a matter of weeks, even days before she could get caught and spoil the Dafoe name.
Willem was indeed overwhelmed with anger and anxiety when Jake brought up the fact that Michelle was driving her car while drunk… He couldn’t allow this, she was smarter than this and he knew it.
“Dad, you gotta do something!!! Since her separation with that freak, she's been intense! It's just a matter of time before she screws up our name and your career!!! Think about it dad!!”
As if Willem didn’t know any of that. Willem passed a hand in his dark blonde hair, worried for his daughter and he knew she needed someone to guide her, but who. Not him for sure, they were always ending up fighting when he was trying to confront her. She was small, but not to be underestimated…
“If you want, I can bring her to my place and we’ll take care of her!!” Jake proposed his father to bring his sister at his place, but Willem snorted at the mere idea brought up by Jake.
“Forget it Jake, she’s gonna give you way too much trouble! You don’t want or deserve this!” Willem stood up from his sofa and shook his head in despair.
“She needs someone that will keep a close eye on her… She’s like a child that you can let out loose in a fucking Toys ‘R’ Us store…” Willem compared his daughter to a child unsupervised in a toy store, it was quite it to be honest. Michelle was indeed a wild child at heart, it’s as if she was still trapped in her teenage years, which was years ago!
Jake pushed his tongue in his cheek and wondered what his dad had in mind aside from taking her under his wings, which seemed a bad idea, thought Willem.
“Who? I mean, who’s gonna keep an eye on her? She’s going to drive him or her crazy by the end of the week!” exclaimed Jake… It’s not as if Willem didn’t know that!
He knew that someone! Michelle needed a person that wouldn’t be intimidated by her obnoxious attitude and that had certainly no time for her nonsense. Someone that would protect her in case something bad would happen, someone that would prevent her from taking her car when drunk, someone that would make sure that Michelle was at home every night safe and sound.
It’s not as if you could find that someone by snapping one finger, but Willem had made many contacts throughout his life as an actor in Hollywood and that special someone who had become his friend 10 years ago was named Antun Kovačević… Willem couldn’t think of anyone else that would be capable of dealing with Michelle. He was an ex soldier, and had a tall frame with a stoic face and a set of green eyes contrasting with his dark hair. If Willem remembered well, Antun had turned 51 this year, but he was a man keeping himself in shape by working out and having a balanced diet when it came to what he put in his mouth.
He was a man solicited in Hollywood for the most prestigious clients. Working as a bodyguard for actors and actresses that needed someone at their side for the events or parties held in Hollywood. Willem wasn’t really sure that Antun had once got offered a job like the next he was about to offer him. He’d need to be by Michelle’s side 24 hours a day, he didn’t care how much he’d charge, he wanted Michelle to be taken care of and especially watched as Willem was afraid she’d commit a mistake…
Willem gazed at his 42 years old son, ready to elaborate on his next plan with Michelle.
“I know a guy, his name is Antun Kovacevic and he’s been working as a bodyguard in Hollywood for a while. I know that he had to take some months off to take care of his sick sister… She passed away recently and I think he was still off from his contracts. I will call him and see if he’s interested in obtaining the job. So far, he’s my only option, I don’t see anyone else qualified enough for this job.”
Jake’s eyes widened before standing up from his chair, he knew from the very beginning that it wouldn’t work. He really didn’t see Michelle accepting to have a stranger in her house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, following her everywhere!
“It won’t work! She’s gonna go bananas when you tell her about it!” Jake knew Michelle, and her bad lil temper. Even though she liked to attract people’s attention, she was craving for intimacy in her private life, at home.
“Well, as far as I’m concerned, I’m the one who paid for her house, and I’m the one paying for all her goddamn lil parties in town! It’s not by working at her dance studio that she will earn a living!! It’s either this, or she’ll have to find a job in order to take care of herself!!! I Just gave her the chance to get back on her feet, but she’s doing crazy stuff and she’s irresponsible. Do you imagine if she gets caught driving drunk??? She could kill someone, dammit!!”
Jake shook his head, in despair with Michelle’s erratic behavior. He didn’t understand why she was acting like this, he knew that she wanted to be the center of attention, but this was indeed toxic as it was only a matter of moment before something tragic would happen.
Jake ended up having dinner with his father and in the next morning, Willem decided to call Antun to propose him the job. Mr. Dafoe wanted to go straight to the point, he even offered Antun a short trip to Vegas in his private jet. Either that Antun would accept or not, Willem would offer him this trip. He was a friend of his and had the most high respect for Antun. Willem was a bit shocked to see that Antun had accepted to join him on his private jet for a short sojourn in Las Vegas. Willem simply said that he had a job to offer him and that they would discuss it on board his private jet, to which Antun accepted.
Willem was praying hard that Antun would say yes to the job. He was an ex soldier who had seen and experienced it all in the Croatian army, and at 6’4” he had an imposing figure that could probably be only beneficial to Michelle. Willem was well aware that Michelle had grown up with an absent father as Willem had often been away from home to earn a living as an actor. Nonetheless, he always made sure to let Michelle know that he cared about her. He had the feeling that the fact that she was trying to get people’s attention, was for filling a void in her life…
It was around 7:15 AM in the morning when Willem stood on the tarmac of the airport next to his private jet, he could see from afar the imposing silhouette of Antun coming his way as the man has just gotten out of a cab, probably his chauffeur, but it didn’t matter to Willem.
The 68 years old man cleared his throat as Antun’s smile cheered up Willem.
“Hey! Long time no see my friend!!” Exclaimed Willem as he wrapped his arms around Antun.
“I’m glad to see you as well Willem, what’s up with you?”
Willem smiled at him and shifted on another subject before coming up with his issue
“I Heard about your sister, all my condolences my friend!” Antun nodded his head and took a step back from Willem after greeting him.
“Thank you my friend, she’s better where she is!” Even though Antun had a pair of sunglasses covering his green eyes, Willem could see he was saddened by the death of his younger sister.
“Come on, get in! We’ll talk!” Willem flashed a smile at Antun and allowed the man to get in his private jet. They both installed themselves face to face, so Willem would be able to speak to Antun directly. The Private Jet rapidly departed the airport and reached its cruising altitude in a matter of minutes.
“You’re probably wondering why I’m bringing you to Las Vegas. And please my friend, no pressure, if the job doesn’t interest you, please be honest about it, ok?”
Antun chuckled at Willem, quite thrilled to see what Dafoe had in mind for him.
“Look Willem, I got no contracts signed and like everybody else, I need a job… Let me see what you have in store for me and I’ll see if I’m in or not!” Willem stood up from his seat and offered Antun a glass of Whisky on the rocks.
“There you go my friend… Alright, this is what I have in store for you!” Willem sipped on the golden liquid while looking at Antun’s green eyes, contrasting with his dark hair.
“Michelle… My daughter!” Antun licked his upper lip when Willem mentioned the name of his daughter.
“Yes, your daughter… What’s up with her?” Willem sighed in despair at Antun’s question.
“I moved her to Las Vegas a few months ago, because she wasn’t doing well! She wanted to open up a Dance Studio, you know as Dance Fitness, not pole Dancing!” Willem nervously laughed in front of Antun who seemed to be amused as Willem made sure to precise that his daughter wasn’t a pole dancer.
“Yea, I know the difference!” Added Antun, displaying his white teeth through his charming smile.
“She’s going out way too often, she’s getting drunk and she’s doing stupid things. It’s all my fault, I’ve spoiled her to no end since her first day in this world, and now I’m paying the price for it!”
Antun could slowly see why Willem had asked him to come. He wanted someone to watch his daughter 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Antun sipped the whisky, holding the glass in his large hand.
“Willem, you’re asking me something I’ve never done before. Yes, I’ve been the bodyguard of young female celebrities in the last years, but they were willing for my presence in their life. Did you speak to your daughter about this?”
Willem pushed his tongue in his cheek when Antun demanded him the obvious. He hadn’t spoken yet to Michelle about bringing Antun in her life and he knew it wasn’t going to be easy for her if Antun would accept the job.
“Nope, she doesn’t even know I’m on my way to Las Vegas. Michelle is a spoiled woman… It’s all my fault, I’ve raised her like this… She’s my only daughter, I got a son, Jake… Well you know him. I always made sure that she had everything she wanted, and look what happened… I know that she’s a good girl, she’s only doing all of this to get the attention she’s yearning for so badly… I think that by being in her life, it would calm her down a bit.”
Antun sighed loudly and put down the empty glass on the small table in front of them. He could understand what Willem wanted to do, not that Antun minded, but he wanted to see what were the conditions offered by Willem.
“I don’t mind the job, but how would you want me to keep an eye on her 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?” Willem had a plan! Michelle had a huge house and Willem knew that it was spacious enough to welcome another person. Hell, it was spacious enough to even get 10 people living under the same roof!
The house I bought her is big enough, that’s no problem! You’d have your own quarters, and privacy for sure! I’d pay you well!… Tell me your price and it will be yours!
Antun took a piece of paper and the blue paper on the small table and wrote down the salary per week he had in mind… He then handed the piece of paper to Willem and leaned back in his seat with a smirk formed on his lips.
Willem nodded his head, and extended his hand to Antun.
“It’s a deal my friend!! You don’t know it, but you just saved my life… I have to leave in less than two months for Japan, for that movie and I can’t keep an eye on Michelle…”
Antun didn’t know that much about Michelle. He had encountered her when she was a teenage girl years ago, and he did remember well that she already had this bratty attitude back in the days… Hopefully she has changed in the last few years..
The private jet made its descent slowly over the Desert and near 9H30 Am, Willem and Antun were standing in front of Michelle’s luxurious house, thanks to Willem, or else she’d still be stuck in Los Angeles, crying her heart out about her ex.
Willem knocked at her door, but no response from Michelle. Since he had the double of her residence keys, Willem allowed to enter her house with Antun. Michelle wasn’t there, which he had already realized as her SUV wasn’t in her driveway.
Ariel the pool cleaner was outside, cleaning Michelle’s pool like every morning. Once again, another expense that Willem was paying for. He knew his daughter liked to swim and relax in her pool and he made sure the Pool would be taken care of…
Willem walked to the inground pool and greeted the pool cleaner. It’s not as if Willem needed to introduce himself to the man…
“Hi, Mr. Dafoe!” The man flashed him a large smile while adding chlorine to the water and Willem asked him where Michelle was.
“Oh, she left an hour ago when I arrived, she was headed to her dance studio, she’ll be back soon.” Antun was still inside the house and was overwhelmed to see that Willem had gone as far as this to please his daughter. The house was very luxurious and like Willem had mentioned, indeed spacious with its 8,150 Square foot of area. It was useless for a single person like Michelle to own such a big house… He shook his head while wandering around the house, making sure to stay on the first floors as the bedrooms were upstairs.
The inside of the house was kept cleaned, Antun didn’t know if Michelle had a housekeeper, probably though… The 51 years old man got his answer as Willem introduced him to Miranda, a Mexican woman in her 40’s
“She’s the housekeeper. She used to work for me but she wanted to move to Vegas, so I gave her this job…” Explained Willem while Antun had his hands placed on his hips.
“She’s indeed spoiled Willem!”
“I know, I know… She’s my baby girl. I just want the best for her!!”
An hour passed as Willem and Antun were enjoying a beer outside by the side of the pool, discussing random things.. Michelle was coming back from her Dancing class and wasn’t aware that her father was waiting for her at her place. She was in for a surprise when she came by the pool to see the work of Ariel the cleaner.
“Dad!!” The young woman flashed a smile and ran to her father, quite content to see him. She had never expected her father to show up at her place like this and that would certainly make her day.
She wrapped her small arms around her father’s body and leaned her head on his shoulder. She had seen Antun, but couldn’t care less about the ex-soldier, she didn’t even know who he was to begin with.
“I’m so happy to see you dad!!” Willem held her strong against him and felt her fierce embrace.
“I’m happy to see you baby! How are you doing?” Asked Willem as he gently stepped back from Michelle. Antun stood there, analyzing the interaction between Willem and his daughter. She was indeed looking adorable with her short pale blonde hair and her striking blue eyes, identical to Willem’s. She was wearing a pink cotton overalls with a white cropped t-shirt underneath. Antun lowered down his eyes at her small feet, as a pair of red and white New Balance 550 Basketball sneakers caught his attention. They reminded him of the sneakers his late son used to wear back in the 90’s… He swore those sneakers were identical…
“Michelle, this is my friend Antun, he came with me to Las Vegas, because well, he’s going to be your shadow for the next months to come… We need to talk, Michelle!”
It didn’t take long that Michelle turned around to face Antun and the look she gave him wasn’t one filled with affection. It was quite evident at first glance that Michelle didn’t want Antun at all to be there. Antun could clearly see that her teeth were clenched behind her closed lips.
Her regard was filled with hatred toward him… He didn’t know if it’s because she was intimidated by his height, after all, he couldn’t blame her. She was small next to him and even though she gave him this threatening look, she was as fragile as a porcelain doll on the exterior.
“Talk about what???” Willem caught the anger in her tone and he knew what she was trying to do. Confrontation wasn’t Michelle’s forte. No, wasn’t a word Michelle had accepted in her life and she clearly understood why her father was there. She took place on the sun chair across them, sulking as Willem began to speak.
“I accepted to buy you this house in Vegas, because you hated Los Angeles and that you were heartbroken with your Bo! Now, I’ve heard of your little extravagances to my expenses! Driving drunk isn’t something I accept and you know it! Clubbing till the wee hours of the morning isn’t a way of living either!”
Michelle’s blue eyes were stuck on her father, as if she was in a black tunnel, totally not seeing Antun in her vision field. She was on the verge of crying as her father was lecturing her like a child who had been bad.
“I’ve never driven under the influence of anything, who the hell told you this huh?” She felt this painful lump growing in her throat as her father kept talking to her with a stern tone.
“Who told me this? That doesn’t concern you at all young lady!! If I’m here today, it’s to stop this nonsense for good! I thought I could count on you! You’re 25 years old Michelle, almost 26 in three months!!! What’s going for Christ sake!!?”
The young woman was still frozen in place as she felt humiliated by her father. Especially in front of that stranger she didn’t even know, or barely knew… She couldn’t recall seeing him before, but she couldn’t be sure. It didn’t take long for her blue eyes to be flooded by her tears.
“I’m just having fun, doing nothing wrong… ok!” Of course she wasn’t going to admit to her father that she was using his fame in order to get free entrances in clubs, or even friends. People wanted to be friends with her, because she was Willem Dafoe’s daughter! Nothing more…
“Whether you like it or not, I already hired Antun and he will keep an eye on you! Perhaps I’ve failed to teach you many important things in life, and I do regret it, but it’s too late! Antun is moving in here with you and he’ll be following you from now on!! You’re going to learn to act your age Missy!!!”
Antun looked back and forth between Willem and an outraged Michelle. Her face had turned all red from the anger, and her blue eyes were filled with tears as her father announced the good news.
“No, you can’t do this!!! YOU’RE EVIL!!” She snapped at her father, furious that her freedom was going down the drain as Antun would follow her everywhere she’d go.
“Oh, I’m the evil father now!!!” Willem snorted at her, furious as well as Michelle began crying and yelling at him. To say that she wasn’t pleased was an understatement. She was boiling in anger!! Her face was darker than her pinkish overalls.
“I’m the one who paid for this house, if you don’t do as I say, I’m going to put back this house of yours so fast on the market that you won’t even realize what’s going on!! I’ll bring back that lil ass of yours in L.A. and you’ll have to find a job!! Or, the second choice I’m giving you is to get back your life together with Antun at your side!! He’s not going to be intimidated by your tantrums and bratty attitude, trust me, you ain’t seen shit yet Michelle Elizabeth Dafoe!! Playtime is over NOW!!!”
Willem had also turned red from anger as Michelle called him an evil father. How ungrateful she was, thought Willem. He had given her everything she ever desired in life, and now he was the bad father in the whole story.
She was indeed ungrateful, taking everything for granted as if she was some sort of queen that everybody had to bow in front of her presence. Antun had his sunglasses covering the playful look in his eyes. It was somehow satisfying to see that she was being brought down back on her earth, thought the 51 years old man…
“SCREW YOU, I’M OUT OF HERE!!” For the first time in her life, Michelle was lacking respect big time toward her father. She was seen rushing away from the pool, entering back in her house. Willem’s eyes widened in shock as Michelle told him to fuck off in front of Antun. He ran after her, and even though he was in shape for his age, he never could catch her back as Michelle ran upstairs to her bedroom and slammed the door, locking it.
Antun didn’t really know what to think of this… He found the situation hilarious. After all, Willem was the one to blame for how Michelle had turned up… The housekeeper walked outside as if she was frightened by the situation.
“Very angry!! She’s having a bad temper!!” She exclaimed before offering something to drink to Antun. The dark haired man thanked her, not wanting anything for now. Antun wasn’t impressed with Michelle’s temper, he even smirked at the whole situation. It wasn’t a 25 years old woman dressed in a pink overalls that would drive him crazy, he had seen worse things in his life than a childish woman who didn’t accept no for an answer.
Few Minutes later, Antun was seen walking inside the house as Willem could be heard from upstairs, banging against Michelle’s bedroom door.
“Open up the fucking door Michelle Elizabeth Dafoe, or you’ll regret it!!” To drown her father’s yells, Michelle had turned on her bluetooth speakers in her bedroom, playing on repeat “Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot”
It wasn’t the first time that Willem was hearing this song. Michelle was listening to it to calm herself down when things weren’t going the way she wanted. He could hear his daughter yelling back at him while she was in tears, even throwing things against her walls in her room. Willem ended up breaking the door by slamming his shoulder against it non stop, only to find out his daughter running up to her bed, curling herself into a ball as to protect herself, crying all the tears from her soul.
“You’re taking my freedom away. I don’t want this bastard in my house!! NO OTHER MAN WILL EVER TRY TO HURT ME AGAIN!!” Michelle was obviously in pain from being dumped by her ex. It was obvious that she had a grudge against all the men in the universe by now… Plus, Antun had almost the same age as her ex, which was only making things more complicated for her.
Willem didn’t really know what to say when her daughter revealed the pain she had inside of her. She was indeed suffering from this breakup and there’s nothing he could do at this point… He was afraid for her safety and he didn’t want anything bad to happen to her. She was by herself in sin city, she was a pretty young woman and knew that she was helpless… She was like a sheep trapped in a pack of Wolves..
“Antun is a respectful man, he won’t hurt you… It’s quite the opposite, he’s going to protect you…I Promise!” He said as he sat on the side of her bed. He caressed the side of her head, passing his hand through her soft blonde hair.
“Noo… I don’t want him… It hurts! I still love him…” Willem could feel the distress in Michelle’s shaky voice as she revealed to him that she was still in love with her ex.
“I can’t stop thinking about him nights and days, even though I’m trying as hard as I can to forget him, I just can’t!!” She said through warm tears, Willem couldn’t catch all of what she said as most of her sentences were incomprehensible to him.
Antun had decided to join them upstairs, just to make sure that everything was alright. Miranda was by Antun’s side as well as the housekeeper was curious to see the whole commotion.
As Antun arrived upstairs, near the entrance of Michelle’s bedroom, he caught Willem holding his daughter in his arms by the side of her bed. She was in tears, even gasping for air as she was clearly having immense grief.
“I never want to fall in love again, Dad… It hurts too much!” Even though Antun wasn’t informed of Michelle’s love life, he quickly fathomed that the young woman was heartbroken. Still, it didn’t change the fact that Michelle would still need to accept Antun in her life. Willem had taken this decision and he didn’t care that she didn’t want to. She needed to get back on her feet rapidly and forget about her ex boyfriend.
He also wanted her to join the AA. Drinking like this almost every night wasn’t a right lifestyle and Willem thought his daughter could do better than this. Antun would come back to Vegas in two days, as he needed time to go back home in Los Angeles and pack his suitcases since he’d spend the next following months with Michelle in Las Vegas.
It was late in the afternoon when Willem and Antun departed Michelle’s house, leaving the young woman by herself with anger and sadness still trapped in her…

225 - Murder on the Orient Express
Tumblr media
All aboard, listeners! This week, we’re looking at Kenneth Branagh’s recent attempts to take on Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot with 2017′s Murder on the Orient Express. Directed by and starring Branagh as the French investigator, the film assembled a gobsmacking assemblage of stars (from Michelle Pfeiffer to Judi Dench to Penelope Cruz to Johnny Depp) for one of Christie’s most iconic whodunits that looked to be a splashy blockbuster. Though the film was a box office success enough to launch a new franchise, the film received a ho-hum critical response and never got close to achieving the Oscar embrace received by Sidney Lumet’s 1974 version of the material.
This episode, we talk about Branagh’s underwhelming approach to the material and how the film doesn’t give us movie stars acting opposite movie stars in the way that we want. We also discuss how Death on the Nile compares to this film’s lacking sense of fun, Michelle Pfeiffer’s acting nominations, and the 2017 Saturn Awards.
Topics also include Ingrid Bergman’s Orient Express Oscar win, the film’s odd trailer punctuated by Imagine Dragons, and the mustache.
