Mahalo to Stanford Yuen, former Senior Advisor to the Admiral – Pacific Fleet and former UH Regent, for hosting a Special Boat Tour of Pearl Harbor. Kate and I joined my dad and Gayle among several dozen invited guests on a 90 minute circuit around Ford Island, seeing Battleship Row (including the the U.S.S. Utah Memorial), Carrier Row, Submarine Row (and a view of the U.S.S. Bowfin from under the Admiral Clarey Bridge), and the mothballed U.S.S. Peleliu and U.S.S. Tarawa. The Arizona Memorial was the last stop, always moving and reflective but doubly so without the crowds. Incredible history, amazing feats of heroism and resilience, so many stories in a small island harbor. #arizonamemorial #ussarizonamemorial #pearlharbormemorial #pearlharbor (at USS Arizona Memorial Pearl Harbour) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeVnbS-r18N/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Lou Conter
the last living survivor of the USS Arizona and a true hero. Lou Conter passed away at the age of 102, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and resilience. His presence will be sorely missed, but his memory will forever live on.
Lou Conter’s story is one that truly encapsulates the sacrifices made by those who served during World War II. As a young sailor stationed at Pearl Harbor on that fateful day in 1941, Conter witnessed the devastating attack by the Japanese firsthand. Thousands of lives were lost, and the United States was thrust into a war that would change the course of history.
Despite the horrors he witnessed, Conter remained steadfast in his commitment to his country. He continued to serve in the Navy throughout the war, displaying unwavering courage and dedication. His service and sacrifice are a testament to the resilience of the American spirit.
As we mourn the loss of Lou Conter, it is important to remember and honor all those who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces. Their bravery and selflessness must never be forgotten. So let us take a moment to say thank you to all the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom. Thank you for your service!
