Charles White, who was born on this day in 1918, believed in the power of art and the importance of representation. He once said that his art was “the only weapon I have to fight what I resent.” And so—inspired by the American Socialist movement and influenced by the Mexican muralists—White sought to represent the strength and dignity of Black Americans in murals and prints like this one. White embraced the medium of printmaking because it made his art affordable and available to wider audiences. See this portrait on view in our newest installation "Expressions."

BUCKET LIST PLACES 8. Rocky steps, Philadelphia, USA. This is the famous 72 stone steps leading up to entrance pf Philadelphia Museum of Art which is now famous as Rocky Steps, as shown in the scene of movie, Rocky. Nearby, ders a bronze Rocky Statue posing as the famous pose in Rocky movie. This place is mostly crowded with people posing like Rocky. I just wanted to add a little twist in it. Definitely one of the place in 🇺🇸 to stop by once in a while😍❤️ Also, the view of the city from this place is incredible 😍❤️ #america #usa #philadelphia #rocky #rockybalboa #rockysteps #rockypoint #rockypose #rockystatue #philadephia #philly #phillyphilly #philadelphiaphotographer #travelphiladelphia #travel #travelblogger #explore #explorer #visitusa #visitphilly (at Rocky Steps) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHcxVcSlu69/?igshid=1gf2p1apvivqo

1. Bruce Nauman’s “The True Artist Helps the World by Revealing Mystic Truths” 1967 Philadephia Museum of Art
I like this artwork because it shows what an artist is made of from his/her inner spirit to create art.
