Whoever knows he is deep, strives for clarity; whoever would like to appear deep to the crowd, strives for obscurity. For the crowd considers anything deep if only it cannot see to the bottom: the crowd is so timid and afraid of going into the water.

Exploring Culinary Wonders: The Fascinating Principles of Food and Beverage Pairing by Ang Chong Yi
In the lively epicurean universe of Singapore, where flavours pirouette gracefully upon discerning palates, one name shines brilliantly - Ang Chong Yi. A distinguished gastronomic chronicler and connoisseur, he has devoted his life to demystifying the mysteries of Ang Chong Yi Taste Harmony The Key Principles of Food and Drink Pairing. This distinctive methodology for pairing food and beverages pledges an unparalleled sensory odyssey. So, let's venture into the core principles that render it genuinely exceptional.
Tumblr media
The Quintet of Sensory Pillars
At the heart of Ang Chong Yi's Taste Harmony lies the notion of the "Five Sensory Pillars." These pillars symbolise the five cardinal facets of taste and scent: Sweet, Salty, Bitter, Sour, and Umami. The brilliance of Ang Chong Yi's approach lies in his capacity to orchestrate these pillars into a harmonious ensemble, weaving a multidimensional tapestry that titillates the senses. 1. Sweet - The Basis of Gratification
The inaugural pillar, sweetness, serves as the foundation of pleasure, offering a reassuring base for your gustatory voyage. Ang Chong Yi's technique involves aligning the sweetness level in a dish or beverage with analogous sweetness levels in other constituents, engendering a harmonious and pleasurable journey. 2. Salty - The Equilibrator
Salt, nature's balancer, enhances the flavours of other ingredients. Ang Chong Yi prescribes an imperative equilibrium between sweet and salty, permitting them to complement and amplify one another rather than overshadow. 3. Bitter - The Enigmatic Profundity
Bitterness introduces depth and intricacy to a repast. Ang Chong Yi endorses the exploration of bitterness to unveil concealed strata of flavour. He frequently juxtaposes bitter greens or cocoa with sweet and savoury components, forming an enthralling contrast. 4. Sour - The Vivacious Zest
Tanginess arouses the palate and contributes a spirited zest. Ang Chong Yi emphasises the significance of harmonising sourness with sweetness or saltiness, ensuring it doesn't dominate the overarching taste. 5. Umami - The Saporific Enigma
Umami represents the fifth pillar, symbolising savoury opulence. Ang Chong Yi's ability resides in identifying umami-rich constituents and harnessing them to amplify the holistic taste profile. Whether it's through the inclusion of miso, soy sauce, or Parmesan cheese, he recognises the unique prowess of umami.
The Craft of Pairing
The enchantment of Ang Chong Yi's Taste Harmony is encapsulated in the art of pairing. By harmonising the five sensory pillars, Ang Chong Yi crafts a symphony of flavours that interact harmoniously on the palate. Each dish and beverage is meticulously composed to avert any single pillar from overshadowing the others, producing a well-rounded, delectable experience.
A Taste Expedition Like No Other
Ang Chong Yi's Taste Harmony isn't merely about gratifying your hunger. It's an odyssey into the culinary realm. His principles transmute every repast into an indelible sojourn, where each bite and sip become a revelation of taste and fragrance.
Final thoughts
Ang Chong Yi's approach to taste harmony testifies to the profound artistry that can be achieved in the area of food and beverages. It's a voyage of the senses conducted by the five sensory pillars. So, the next time you dine in Singapore, remain alert for From Classic to Creative: Vegan and Gluten-Free Desserts for Every Occasion By Ang Chong Yi and set forth on a gustatory odyssey that promises to be nothing short of enchanting.

the good fight is one of those series that you've never heard of (or at least i had never heard of it) but is featured on every "greatest tv shows of all time" list for some reason. and it is the first show where i actually like.. get it. 98% on rotten tomatoes can be soo meaningless. but not in this case

I can't believe that, for all the things I know about this book via cultural osmosis, the actual plot is not one of them. Much like my good friend Jonathan Harker, I literally have no idea where Dracula is going.

I'm not actually that worried abour nandermo's fait as a queer ship, we'll probably get to see them together someday
But the takes of Paul Simms on the topic are... funny
"the dynamic seems problematic"
"lt's his boss"
I'm sorry, sir, did you know that you are a writer and executive producer of the show? Didn't you can actually do something about it? What's the problem?
And you guys do a lot of problematic things on the show. What are you, cop?

hsr: references to jingliu, jing yuan, and yanqing's backstories. interpretations + hcs roughly based on anything up to 1.4
(hi i don't make proper theories or analyses. i just scream my feelings into a void in a chaotic barrage of words.)
Tumblr media
thinking about sword family again.
how jingliu’s readiness to teach anyone swordsmanship regardless of fame, talent, or circumstances transformed jing yuan’s life. i think about little jing yuan, whose passion for swordplay went against his parents' wishes, whose talent leaned far more into cunning than the blade. and yet jingliu acknowledged his desire to learn and acknowledged him as he was. even now, he still speaks of her with respect and fondness.
i then think about how jing yuan now, many years later, is mentoring a student of his own, yanqing. a boy with no known background but had a fiery passion for swordplay. how he went against public opinion to give him opportunities on the battlefield at a young age. the dubious ethics of this aside, i can see little yanqing felt his passion and abilities acknowledged.
i think of them being acknowledged by their masters, for not only their strengths and weaknesses, but their dreams. i can imagine a great sense of hope dawning on them. they will never forget it.
(extra headcanony territory) and then i picture, the student of her student, standing before her, hungry for another contest, hungry to learn more techniques from her. he knows she's deemed a criminal by the xianzhou, he knows her past is full of painful complications beyond his comprehension, but through all that, jingliu is still a brilliant swordmaster, and that's what matters to him. he will acknowledge her as she is. he will cut through her punishing memories with his sharp tongue. "what's the holdup? it's time for swordplay!" and she will smile the sweetest and most sincere smile she had for years, for there's fun to be had.
and so the cycle of hope has come full circle.

>> disclaimer: i might be too paranoid about this, but i feel the need to note that the positive way i wrote this (and other posts) doesn't mean i think what these characters do for each other is necessarily the best or healthiest (even by in-universe standards, let alone my own). i acknowledge the flaws and greyness of this world, but i prefer to read them in the context of its own setting and focus on the positives for a lot of these posts because it gives me the most joy.

You’re so right about symbolic states. For me there is an aspect of yearning and anticipation that becomes almost masochistic. I was trapped as property of adults who abused and isolated me, and could only dissociate and fantasize about a better future. This fantasy, the longing and anticipation for a better future, became more real than my actual life. It allowed me to survive, but eventually there came a time when I had the opportunity to improve my actual life, and I was very slow to seize it because I was accustomed to dissociating and living in this super-imposed, unattainable fantasy world. It is a constant state of yearning and anticipation and dissociation. You vacillate between comforting magical thinking and dread and panic about the hopelessness of actually living those fantasies.
At a certain point the fantasy is no longer about having good things for yourself, but about being an entirely different person than yourself. At that point the fantasy becomes completely unattainable by definition. Any fantasy that is attainable quickly loses its appeal, because it doesn’t provide that yearning and dissociation that you have come to masochistically rely on
OMG the yearning!!!!! The masochistic yearning!!!! I completely forgot to mention how obsessed I became with yearning - I was at one point convinced that yearning is what life is about, that yearning is the only way that we make meaning in this cold, dark world. I cared more about anticipation than actual experiences - because within anticipation there's an infinite possibility that reality simply cannot match up against. Yearning and anticipation had this powerful, magnetic energy to them, an awe-inspiring beauty that had an almost religious quality to it. Like the butterflies in your stomach before a date, only to find that the date was mediocre. I refused to learn that if the reality is worse than my imaginations, that's either 1. a natural product of the infinite nature of imagination or 2. possibly a sign that I'm not enjoying my chosen activity and should probably do something more gratifying. I was so locked into the fantasy world that even the idea that reality might just be a bit dull sometimes was so existentially terrifying that I found a way to romanticise around it.
I thought I had found a way to 'make the mundane sublime', so to speak - but in reality, all I had done was ignore natural sublimity of the mundane: what's actually awe-inspiring is the reality of the fact that it's me who exists here having real experiences. Now I'm open to that, life has a lot less fantasy-induced euphoria in it, but it's much more peaceful.

elrond and elros and earendil [hamilton voice] and faramir! i must know about this!!!!!
oh man a concept that puts my brain cells in a claw machine… (@sweetshire asked about this one too so ria this is 4 u as well<3) i knew i was gonna be building to this scene the whole time from the moment faramir crossed the borders of rivendell and i hope i executed it well. i locked onto eldritch numenoreans as a concept so intensely and it’s just so important to me that not only are they obviously strange but they LOOK weird as fuck. like no that isn’t quite an elf but they’re DEFINITELY not some normal guy. so faramir sees elrond for the first time and he sees elros, preserved through time. and elrond sees faramir and he sees elros in his face and it breaks his fucking heart! :). and also faramir has dreamt of numenor all his life right. and elros was the first king of numenor...who followed the light of gil-estel the north star to find his promised land...and who carries that star...earendil his father.......YOU KNOW??? it makes me feel crazy. like that is a literal real connection that they all have.
the air seems to shimmer about him as he turns, the light radiating from his very skin, star-like even in the bright sunlight. faramir raises his head, prepares to meet the lord with all the reverence he knows. and then he sees his face, and all his breath leaves him in an instant. he knows this face. has known it all his life, as close to his as any kin. its carven gaze stares down from a hundred statues in minas tirith, and chief of them all the face of the steward, as it had been in faramir’s youth, now so distant of a memory. dark-haired, grey-eyed, noble and kind and true. the echo of a choice made thousands of years ago. elros tar-minyatur brought to life. “my lord elrond,” he says, through a mouth dry as the desert. drops to a knee, overcome. ever since he had stepped past the borders of this land he has walked through his most beloved legends, and yet his mind now cannot believe what he sees. here now is the scion of gil-estel, the one son of that star who will endure past the breaking of the world. and faramir is only the most distant of relations but in this moment he is as númenórean as he has ever been. time and space and the changing of the world separate him from the sons of eärendil, yet all this time he has followed in the footsteps of his greatest forebear, seeking starwards.
this is also very like…dont worry professor tolkien i saw that everyone you think is hot looks exactly like your wife. dont worry i ALSO think they’re hot. u can rest now.gif.
“we remember the first king of númenor, in gondor,” says faramir softly. “there are fewer, now, who know the old tales. but elros tar-minyatur will be last to be forgotten, ere the white city fall and the world end.” a gentle smile blooms across the lord elrond’s face. he does not weep, but in the lines of his face lies a sorrow so large and ancient that faramir can hardly conceive of it. “i do you no more honour than you deserve. i did not think to look to the stewards of gondor, to steward my brother’s memory. now i see that i have long been mistaken. the memory of númenor yet lives on in the men of the south.” “my lord,” is all faramir can think to say. he had not thought he would find so many reminders of home, so far from it, in this land where there truly are none like him. or so he had believed. he will never know tar-minyatur and yet something of that lord of legend lives on in him. when he looks far enough into the grey horizon, into times and futures that have not yet come to pass, there is a part of him that looks through those ancient eyes. the first king of númenor lives on in the streets of gondor, in the quiet of the standing silence, in the tales of the West passed first from his father to himself, and then from him to his men, weaving stories late into the night in the glow of the fire. yet of his brother he knows little, and he is nothing like he had imagined. he had expected distant, remote lordship, not untouchable like a statue but untouchable like a star. gil-estel, after all, shines cold and bright each night over ithilien. to be the immortal scion of the north star - it is a burden that could freeze any heart. yet in the scant time they have stood here, around the lord elrond’s feet, flowers have begun to grow.
its also like an Elrond Learning Moment. the blood of numenor is spent situation at the council in the book versus what i, PERSONALLY, know about the blood of numenor being alive and fucking well is always soooo....elrond i Love You but that was a pretty crazy thing to say. and now here he is realizing and acknowledging and reevaluating his biases. yeah this is my i am fixing something about canon moment. i just think elrond and faramir should Understand Each Other.
