You know, I really wish we knew more about the contents of Cassie's book, Mindswarm.

I know we can't know everything that's in it, I'm just wondering about general topics and what's in that 25-step process for improving mental efficiency. We can assume one of the main topics is how to multitask considering that's something she's known for and I believe Milla mentions it when she's talking with Raz about how she's multitasking, but what else is there?

The reason why I'm wondering this is because I've got a potential headcanon involving her book.

See, when you look at her section of the mural in Psychonauts 2, we get the following dialogue:

What's catching my attention is the mention of mental compartmentalization. Why it's catching my attention is because I've been thinking about Sasha's backstory and his mind cube. He's all about compartmentalization in his mind, and he had to figure out how to compartmentalize everything so well.

I'm still rotating some thoughts about this but I think it would be interesting if in Cassie's book, it talks about mental compartmentalization, and Sasha read her book when he was younger and took the compartmentalization aspect to the extreme we see in the games.

It would make sense. The mental compartmentalization could be part of that 25-step process for improving mental efficiency. It was a popular book that came out before the days of the Psychonauts, so Sasha could have read it when he was younger. We don't know if his dad was psychic or not (personally I think he wasn't) so he could have been alone as a psychic and used the book to learn more, and we know Sasha is a nerd. He could have wanted to use the improving mental efficiency steps, and then took the compartmentalization part to the extreme (which, oh boy I'm going to have to think more about the potential reasons why he would have wanted to do that).

I just think it could have been neat.

Getting emotional over the fact that I’ve always been angry at Ford saying “I was young, Razputin, I made a mistake” over and over, when the reality is he was MIDDLE AGED AT LEAST when he used the astralathe. Like that’s one thing.

But then realizing Raz is ten and has spent the whole time learning the real responsibilities of being psychic and integrating that into his actions moving forward. He made one bad connection in Hollis’s mind and it turned into a catastrophe. He nearly got kicked out on his first day because that was Not Okay and NOT who the Psychonauts aim to be.

To learn that your idol, your hero, the founder of the Psychonauts, acted so horrifically against those values, and that it specifically fucked with your family and your life. God that’s unforgivable. The Never Meet Your Heroes aspect of Ford and Raz’s relationship is so juicy and I love fanwork that explores it.

Lowkey Loboto is kinda nice ?? Like when he's on Sasha's lab table he's sort of accepted his own fate but he acknowledges the trouble it makes for other people.

There's always the argument that he doesn't mean any of it, but I really think he's just a victim of circumstance from the start, he's so interesting to think about.

As per usual when it comes to Psychonauts, I'm losing my mind over trying to figure out the timeline of events.

Like when did Truman meet Bob? He knew him long enough that he was invited to Bob and Helmut's wedding (if I remember correctly there was a figment of Truman in the wedding cake area). How much time passed between when Ford first met Otto and recruited him, and when Lucy left because of what was happening in Grulovia? How many years did the Psychic 7 spend in Green Needle Gulch? What is the order of the remaining Psychic 7 members leaving the Motherlobe, did Cassie leave first or was Bob fired first? Has Truman been the head of the Psychonauts for the entire 20 years the Psychonauts has been around, or was there someone else before him?? (I've got a headcanon post about that incoming one of these nights, I just haven't had a chance to type it outside of Discord). How long ago did Sasha and Milla join and how long was it before they became partners? How long ago did Hollis join? How old was Augustus when he lost his parents and Ford made him believe Lucy was his mom? Was Lucy already a part of the Psychic 7 when Augustus was born, and if so then did Lucy visit to meet her new nephew?

I have so many questions.

Something that seems really obvious to me, but what I haven’t seen very much is that Milla has a really good second reason for wanting to change how her name is said. In PN2 she says that her full name is Camilla, but when she started working with the Psychonauts Sasha mispronounced it and she didn’t have the heart to correct him. So she’s been going by “Me-yah” ever since. It’s a cute story. But it also makes sense that since her nightmares call her “Me-Lah” from her memories of reaching out to her children with telepathy, that she’d want to distance herself from that name. I mean it would probably trigger her to be called that name. Since she (wrongfully) blames herself for not being to help, she probably feels that “Me-Lah” was the failed mother who couldn’t protect her children.

So she starts her new job with the Psychonauts, protecting the world and exploring the human mind. She’s going to be a cool spy now, but ever since the accident whenever someone calls out to her she is filled with guilt and the feeling that she can’t protect anyone. Then she meets her new field partner, he’s cute, she thinks. And then he gets her name wrong, maybe out of ignorance or nervousness, but it doesn’t matter. “Me-yah.” And she didn’t get that feeling of dread. There wasn’t that doubt or guilt, just…her. Just “Me-yah.” She knew that she should probably correct him, it would be rude to just let him get it wrong, but she just….doesn’t have the heart.

Then she starts introducing herself to others as “Me-yah” and they say it back to her. And she feels fine, happy even. Sure, it doesn’t erase all the bad feelings about the accident, it’s still effecting her a lot. But for this tiny little thing, it’s easier for her.

And as she pulls off mission after mission, she feels less like that failed mother. She wasn’t “Me-Lah,” the woman who could only tearfully plead that everything she loved stopped burning. She was “Me-yah,” the Psychonaut.

actually lemme give yall a fandom hazard rating based on my experiences

Gravity Falls: 100/10. 2015 GF fandom was Literal Hell, especially when you consider this was also my Amino era.

TF2: 8/10. 2018 TF2 fandom was still before everyone got transgendered, or at least the majority of content then was like that. It's 10x better now don't worry but good lird it still had some things I dare not mention.

HLVRAI: 4/10. Aside from the literal antisemitism this was okay. But then again I wasn't really into the Benrey shipping and more into Boomer, aka the ship literally everyone and their grandmothers shipped. So maybe there's secret discourse I am not aware of

The Henry Stickmin Collection: 3/10. This one was more funny than bad. Like these are sticks with barely any personality and these people (me included) made some insanely complex fanon.

Psychonauts: 0/10. Self explanatory. Sickonuts is probably the least fandomy fandom ever.

Borderlands: 6/10 on the fanwork side - the Rh*ckies are everywhere but they're pretty easy to drive out with a quick enough blocking finger. 11/10 on the gameplayer side - but I still sometimes go there for inspiration and because I'm starved for content... despite the fact I need the mental equivalent of a hazmat suit for it. Definitely helps it's basically dying now

KAY BUCKLE UP. INFO DUMP TIME LET'S GOOOOOO!!!

We'll go in the order that I listed the spinoffs, even if that isn't the order we came up with them. (Spectrophobia was probably the first one I think.)

Dementophobia is the fear of going insane and it's the Psychonauts one. I hadn't heard of Psychonauts before this, so I'm still working my way towards watching the game cutscenes. I think I'm in the middle of Psychonauts 2 right now and then I'll be all caught up. If you're unaware, Psychonauts is a videogame where this kid named Raz has psychic powers and wants to become a Psychonaut, who are basically spies I think and also use their mind powers to help people get therapy.

So during Dementophobia, Niko accidentally comes into contact with the Warp Topaz (a common theme you'll see in a lot of these) and gets sent to the world of Psychonauts. He comes into contact with Raz who figures out something's up and decides to help him out. Raz goes into Niko's mind and very quickly realizes something is VERY WRONG HERE. (Also, Lily and I along with Lily's more Psychonauts knowledgeable friends have done a TON of worldbuilding around Niko's mind world and what happens there. It's so in depth and interesting and I LOVE IT SO MUCH) Anyway, Raz realizes that he's gonna need some backup here because Niko's mind is unlike pretty much anything he's ever seen before. It's that messed up. He takes Niko to his Psychonauts friends for help and that's when things really get going. Also Maple shows up at some point.

I could go on and on about what we have planned for Niko's mind world, but that might be a bit too spoiler-y. BUT TRUST ME WHEN I SAY IT'S SUPER COOL. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

Alright, next up is Phobophobia which in all honesty is a silly joke AU that is really just here to have fun with. Here's what's up: Starline and Maple are married. Niko is their actual child. (Also Surge and Kit show up at some point, also being Starline's kids)

It sounds CRAZY (and it is) but it's really fun!! Niko's like 7 I think and there's not really a set plot to this one. It's just a collection of scenarios that this wacky family gets into. Also, there's like a subplot where Starline learns to be more caring and gets closer to Niko and it's kinda cute. This one got started before the Trauma Siblings became a thing, so they're not included, and I'm still wondering if I should put them in. That would put Starline and Maple at SIX kids though and I don't know if their marriage can handle that. XD

(ALSO EGGMAN AND STARLINE ARE CO-WORKERS AND EGGMAN'S DAUGHTERS ARE 6 YEAR OLD SAGE AND BELLE.)

Next up is Decidiophobia, Fear of Decision making. This is the Stanley Parable crossover, another game that I hadn't heard of before this, but I'm now OBSESSED WITH. Quick rundown of The Stanley Parable: You play as Stanley, an ordinary guy with a job pressing buttons on a keyboard all day. Then one day, his co-workers all go missing and he sets out to try to find them and figure out what's up. The entire game is narrated by the Narrator, who even narrates your actions! However, what he says you're going to do isn't set in stone and you can go against what he says whenever you want. All this leads to different paths and storylines you can take, causing multiple different endings. After each one, the game resets and you start all over again.

SO HERE'S THE THING ABOUT THIS ONE. Instead of doing another dimensional yeet via the warp topaz, we decided that The Stanley Parable exists within the regular Sonic universe. How? Uhhh, I probably can't explain that because of spoilers, but let's just say . . .

The Narrator is vaguely connected to the Time Eater and also the Phantom Ruby is here. And GUN got involved too.

So Niko shows up in side The Parable™ and confuses the Narrator, because he's not Stanley. The Narrator tries to continue on as normal, but after a particularly disastrous ending, he realizes that Niko is AN ACTUAL CHILD and resolves to help him escape The Parable™. :D

Next: Autophobia, Fear of being Alone, otherwise known as the Miraculous Ladybug one. You know the drill by now. Warp Topaz, dimensional yeet, and it's all fun and games until Hawkmoth gets to Niko literally IMMEDIATELY. (Not gonna explain Miraculous because it's a lot. If you don't know about it already, just go watch the show.) So Niko gets akumatized into THE MOST TERRIFYING AND OVERPOWERED AKUMA IN EXISTENCE, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS LITTLE ANGEL. He can make people fall (platonically) in love with him just by looking at him and it even works across BROADCAST. So like. Anyone who comes into contact with him is instantly obsessed with him. There's a bit more too it, but that's probably spoilers. :P

Anyway, Ladybug is compromised pretty much INSTANTLY. And shortly afterwards, the entire school falls to Little Angel's spell. Due to spoiler reasons, Chat Noir, Chloe, and Kagami, manage to escape his influence and start trying to find a way to fight back. (Oh also Little Angel is not a hedgehog, but he was turned into a small human child with animal ears, a halo, and wings. Yeah, he's called Angel for a reason.)

This is the only crossover we have where Niko very much does NOT get therapy. He's usually better off by the end of one of the crossovers but NOT THIS ONE. In fact, he actually gets WORSE because of this one. :D

AND FINALLY WE HAVE SPECTROPHOBIA, Fear of mirrors/your reflection. AKA THE ONE I ACTUALLY CAME UP WITH BY MYSELF. XD This one is interesting because SONIC shows up. Like, regular Sonic, untainted by Starline's influence, shows up in the facility. How? Let's just say that the 900th Adventure special didn't quite go as planned. >:) So he's able to find Starline and Niko in the facility right in the middle of a session. Sonic's like 'nah this is stopping right now,' rescues Niko, and escapes the facility! It's not as easy as it seems though because Niko freaks out as soon as he realizes Sonic's here and he took him away from Starline. I REALLY WANNA START POSTING THIS ONE. I PROBABLY COULD BUT I'VE BEEN PUTTING IT OFF. Also the Warp Topaz shenanigans are fun in this one and I've got an art I need to finish for it that no one but Lily will understand but will come up later on in the story. >:)

Kay, that's all the ones I mentioned in that post, but there's a few more. I won't talk about them though, because most of them are more Lily's expertise.

But aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa can you tell why I'm going insane now?
