also from your additions because they're fun: to protect an actual partner who doesn't want the attention for pairing of your choice! :D
Heheh yes of course! Thanks for the ask!!!!
"Alex, over here!"
"Luke, is it true your next single is due soon?"
"Julie, who are you wearing tonight?"
"Reggie, Alex, is it true you two are dating?"
Reggie blinks, still unused to all the flashing lights of the cameras on red carpets. But that last question at least needed to be answered, for all of their sakes.
"Yep," he says, grabbing Alex's hand and relaxing when his best friend squeezes his. "Two years last month."
"Why all the secrecy?" another reporter asks, pointing a mic at them.
"We weren't really in the market for attention," Alex answers, the lie flowing smoothly to anyone who didn't know him. "And potential backlash over us being in a queer relationship is always a concern."
Reggie lets go of Alex's hand to wrap his arm around his waist instead. Nothing he hasn't done a million times, it's just usually not like this. It feels easy though, because it's Alex. They're best friends and they both know what's going on, even if the public doesn't.
"Plus, I wanted to keep him to myself," he says, leaning over to peck Alex on the cheek.
"Shut up," Alex protests playfully.
"So why come out now?" someone else demands.
Geez, Reggie thinks, why do so many people seem to think their entitled to knowledge of their personal lives just because the band is famous?
"Eh we figured it was time," he offers, just like they planned. "Lots of people already knew, so it's not a big deal."
"Guys, band picture!" Julie calls from a few steps further down the carpet.
Reggie hides his sigh of relief with a wide grin and a wink for the cameras before he and Alex join her and Luke for more photos. Sure, being more openly affectionate with Alex is fun, but it's still lying to call him his boyfriend. He sends a mental sorry to his partner back at their apartment. It's not necessary of course, both his and Alex's partners are on board with this. But still.
Once they make it inside the movie theater, Luke manages to get them all away from the crowd and into a large, family restroom.
"Everyone okay?" Julie checks as soon as the door is locked behind them.
Reggie lets himself relax against Luke's side. Thank goodness for his qpps. "Yeah, I think so," he says. "I feel like I should send a million sorry texts though."
"Agreed," Alex responds, sitting down on the floor and tapping out a steady rhythm on the tiled floor. "I know it was Willie's idea and everything, but it still feels weird."
Luke shrugs. "Makes sense to me. Pretty sure it'd kill me to have to lie about my relationships in front of that many people. You guys are brave."
"Well it keeps him safe," Reggie says instinctively. "This is sort of the best we got for everybody at the moment."
"You guys are going to have so much fun defacing the gossip magazines tomorrow," Julie adds, grinning.
"I think they were talking about going on a shopping spree for glitter pens while we're here," Alex agrees.
Reggie laughs. That sure sounds like their partners. "Well I guess we better get some good stuff out to make fun of then," he decides, standing up and straightening his suit jacket.
"And, you know, hear our song in a movie," Alex snarks, taking the hand Julie offers him to stand up.
Luke cheers. "Let's go!"
Reggie grabs Alex's hand and they all sneak back out into the lobby. The crowd surrounds them and Reggie definitely spots a few phone cameras pointed at them. But hey, this is the goal, right? Keep everyone from asking questions about their love lives and protect their real significant others from all the publicity garbage. So they might as well have some fun with it.
"We should do that whole crossing arms and drinking champagne thing later," he whispers to Alex as they find their seats in the movie theater.
"You'd better not spill any one me then," Alex teases. "I kinda like this jacket."
"Awww, but it would look so much better on Willie's floor," Reggie retorts.
"Wow, that is truly an awful line," Alex groans, laughing. "And I actually hang up my suit jackets, unlike someone I know."
"Sue me for having other priorities when I get home." Reggie wiggles his eyebrows just as the flash of a camera goes off right behind them.
Alex rolls his eyes at the brightness, but then the director comes onstage to introduce the film and the theater erupts into cheers. Movie time!
-- --- -- --- -- ---
"Wow, have you read this one yet?"
Reggie looks up from where he's been drawing little mustaches on him and Alex in People. His partner is holding up another gossip magazine, folded open to an article apparently about their 'relationship'. Reggie has to admit he's a bit distracted by the way his boyfriend's dark hair falls around his face and the fact that he isn't wearing a shirt at the moment.
"Earth to Reggie?" Bobby says with a smirk, waving the papers at him. "You have got to read this one, it's a compilation of your guys' cutest moments."
"Oh no," Reggie laughs, wriggling across their bed to take it. "Ten bucks says they put that Instagram post from last summer in the top 3."
"I mean, it was a pretty cute picture," Bobby agrees, snagging some more glossy pages from the stack Willie left outside their room this morning. "Hard to top last night though."
"We are pretty cute," Reggie says, nodding in an attempt to look serious. "Not as cute as you though."
"Awww, you flatter me," Bobby responds, clapping a hand to his chest. He flops down onto his back and flips through the pages to find the next article about 'Ralex', as they have been dubbed.
"Hey, it's kinda hard to top a solid 10," Reggie continues, setting his magazine aside to roll on top of his partner. "Like come on, Alex and I are cute, but have you looked in a mirror lately?"
"Flirt," Bobby retorts, one hand finding the back of Reggie's neck to pull him down into a kiss.
Reggie grins into it, sliding his hands into Bobby's hair as he nips at his bottom lip. Fake dating Alex is great, but he'll take real dating Bobby over that any day. And if doing them together keeps everyone safe, then so be it. The gossip magazines are pretty entertaining at least.

13 for the spotify reblog?
13 is Journey to your Heart from Pokemon
Which honestly just SCREAMS the boys choosing Julie over the HGC but... that's been done. How can I change it up... 🤔
OH! Or childhood/preteen Sunset Curve!
The boys (read: Luke) are just working on putting their band together. Alex and Reggie are in, the latter of whom is more enthusiastic about it. Alex only drums to get his feels out and the school band and private playing have always been enough for him but... he likes to see the other two happy so he says yes.
Bobby needs more convincing. Yeah, he likes to play but he's not as intense about it as Luke and Reggie are. He doesn't have big rockstar dreams. He's perfectly fine being "normal" (whatever that means for these boys).
In the end, he knows he's not passionate enough about anything to make it his whole life so why not join the three people he loves more than anything on this journey? He underestimates Luke's intensity (a great feat, considering the amount of time they've known each other) and he finds himself seeking intellectual stimulation from learning the industry and working to keep Luke from jumping in too deep at any given moment.
Yep. That's what I've got! THANK YOU!!!
Send me a number between 1 and 101 and I’ll tell you what fic I would write based on the corresponding song from my Spotify Wrapped playlist!

Would love to hear more about "If You'll Let Me"!!
If you'll let me is supposed to be kind of a double-whammy sequel to "Come Again Bright Days" and "Unpack Your Heart."
Flynn and Julie are having some serious crises about their new favorite boys, and they're trying to figure out exactly what the last fourteen hours mean for them.
The title actually came when I noticed that the three songs I wanted to use for the part 1, part 2, and part 3 aspect ALL used the phrase "if you'll let me," and I thought it was too good to pass up!
There's not a whole lot there yet, but I can give you a tiny snippet of it!
***
“Julie, it’s almost noon. If you’re not out of bed in the next six and a half seconds, I’m coming in there with ice water and an air horn!”
The only reason Flynn wasn’t dead right then was that Julie would miss her too much.
She rolled over and grabbed her phone, squinting at the time against the afternoon sun. There was no way it was already noon.
Then her stomach made a sound that should never come out of a human being. Yep, it was definitely noon.
She looked back down. A single notification sat unopened on her lock screen.
Message from: Luke Patterson.
Whoa. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d seen that name come across her phone. But here it was, and it did things to her heart she wasn’t sure how to interpret. She tapped it and saw four new messages. So, he was still a “one sentence at a time” texter. Nice to see some things never changed.
10:25 am Luke Patterson: Mornin, Julie.  Last night was something else, huh? Just wanted to see if you’re okay.  Let me know. Please.
She smiled and started to type a reply, but Flynn burst into her room, ice water and air horn held at the ready. “Oh, you’re up,” she said.
Wait. Did she sound disappointed?
“Yes, I’m up, thanks to you,” Julie said, pulling a pillow over her face with a moan. “Flynn, I have so much to tell you…”
“Trust me, Jules, what I have to say trumps it.”
Doubtful.
“I made out with Reggie last night.”
Oh.
“All night long.”
Oh.
“As in he’s still kind of passed out on the couch.”
OH!

are you throwing up in there?
just breathe… that whole one
i can’t breathe, i can’t-
can it be a luke and bobby throwback?
prompts list here
ao3 link here
This actually paired up nicely with an anon request I'd gotten about the series a little while ago:
was re-reading life is a risk, and chapter 8 has this line “Luke - who once had a fever of 103 and was still attached to that guitar not willing to let go just because he was delirious…” so i thought a shot about that time would be fun haha
I couldn't figure out where to put it in the main series, so it's right here😅
Bobby was a Shadowhunter. He was fifteen years old and he’d recently officially started killing demons for a living. And he was doing so well.
What he wasn’t doing so well with, was being stuck as the babysitter and when Alex and Reggie were back, they were definitely going to hear all about it.
And what was even more infuriating was that Luke just wouldn’t stay still. You’d think a fever of 103 and the fact that he was pretty much delirious by this point would be enough to keep him in bed, but Bobby had been running after him all around the Institute, trying to get him to sleep.
Luke on the other hand had different plans and he’d decided that this was the perfect time for him to finish a song he’d started writing a few days ago. Bobby had been trying to take his guitar away, but trying to get Luke to give up on music was a lost battle and there was no point really in even going for it.
That was of course until he somehow ended up losing him once more and found the music room empty and the guitar abandoned. That should probably be enough to worry him, but part of him still wished Luke had somehow gotten it into his brain and actually went to bed.
A wish that was soon disproved when he heard a miserable whimper coming through the bathroom.
“Are you throwing up in there?” he called out and wasn’t really met with an answer.
He waited a couple of seconds and was about to barge in, when the door opened and Luke fell into him. Bobby was quick to catch him, supporting most if not all of his weight on him. He did not look good and there was really no room for disagreements anymore, Bobby was carrying him all the way to his room and Luke was not getting out of there until he at least had a somewhat normal body temperature.
“I-” Luke started to say, but instead groaned and fell further into Bobby.
“Okay, let’s go. It’s time for bed,” Bobby said, half dragging him with him towards his room.
“But-” Luke tried to say, sounding a bit too congested. “Song and- and the chorus-”
“Luke, you can barely stand. You are not going to finish the song today, try again in a couple of days,” Bobby said.
“But-” Luke started again with a sniffle and ended up coughing into Bobby’s side instead. Yep, Bobby was definitely catching whatever this was. “Sorry,” he added miserably in the end as he made a sad attempt to move a bit further away.
“It’s okay,” Bobby reassured him. Sure, he didn’t love dragging Luke around, but the guy was really sick and he definitely needed all the help he could get.
They finally reached Luke’s room, Bobby pushing the door open as Luke stumbled in along with him. He tried to let him down easy on the bed, but Luke still somehow tripped and fell face first. He didn’t seem to mind as much, just staying there, barely even moving.
Bobby rolled him over and that seemed to kick something into gear as Luke reached for his pillow, hugging it close, his eyes glassy. Bobby breathed out, looking down at him.
“You’re okay?” he asked. Luke mumbled something into the pillow Bobby couldn’t even try to begin and decipher. He instead pulled the blankets over him, tucking him in and hoping that like, twelve hours of sleep would do him some good.
“I’m going to bring you some water, okay?” he said, not even sure if Luke could hear him. When he did try to leave though, a hand shot out, grabbing his wrist and pulling him back down with admirable strength considering the situation.
Bobby went down, falling sitting next to Luke on the bed. “Don’t leave me,” Luke said with a whine.
“I’m not leaving you, man, but your throat must be killing you,” Bobby tried to reason with him.
Luke didn’t get to answer, thrown into another coughing fit that sounded even worse than before. Bobby really sympathized, not even sure how it’d gotten so bad, so fast. Well, maybe a little sure, because Luke ignored the fact that he was coming down with something until it was evident to pretty much everyone.
“Just breathe…” he said, rubbing his back soothingly through it. “You’re okay, I promise, just breathe.”
It did take a few seconds for Luke to get back to normal, but he eventually calmed down again. He didn’t look any better, but at least he didn’t sound like he was trying to cough his lungs out.
Luke made an attempt to breathe through his nose, but failed, suddenly growing panicked. “Bobby, I can’t breathe, I can’t –”
“Try through your mouth,” Bobby suggested and bit back a smile when Luke did as was told and seemed to calm down.
“You’re smart,” he mumbled.
“Thanks, I try,” Bobby said. “Do you think you’re ready to go to sleep now? I guarantee you’ll feel better. And then you can go back to singing and writing and whatever else you want to do.”
“We- We’ll find a name,” Luke said, his eyes half closed. “For the band.”
Luke was really set on them making it in whatever way they could, to the point where he was already looking for names for the band they didn’t really exactly have yet. Not that they guys really minded, it was actually a nice break in their everyday lives to be able to relax by doing something fun.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Just go to sleep, okay? We’ll figure everything out when you wake up, I promise.”
Luke sighed a little, bringing the blankets closer to him to try and stop the shivering. Bobby took his stele out, reaching over for Luke’s neck, the only part of his skin that was actually exposed and drew another healing rune. It wasn’t going to be enough to make everything better overnight but Luke needed all the help he could get and he still seemed to relax just a tiny bit after the rune was finished.
His breaths, as clear as they could be, became even after a while, relaxing on his bed. Bobby looked over at him with a little smile, glad he was finally out and hoping it was going to last for a while. It was true, Bobby didn’t like playing the babysitter, but seeing Luke was actually doing just a little bit better... Well, maybe it wasn’t that bad after all.

okay, firstly, the zayn thing?? OH MY GORD. AMAZING. AHHHH. IT HAS TO BE A SIGN!!
let’s take a moment to appreciate this man.
sadly, i don’t know how to do the page break. sorry!your favourite flower is so pretty! i’m glad that people can’t pick them, they’re too nice to be picked. the colors are cute too. did you subconsciously pick photos of red and green shutters (art heist, baby!) or were you making a reference? also swimming??? pls don’t do a regulus, that would be so sad 😭 im also adding your songs to my playlist!
current additions:
this feeling - the chainsmokers & kelsea ballerini
lovely - billie eilish & khalid
valerie - the glee cast version
give me love - ed sheeran
somewhere only we know - darren criss
now for my questions!
the song i’d use to describe myself would have to be: bad child - tones and i (very sirius black, i know)
my comfort colors: honestly? any type of pastels but particularly blue, pink and yellow
a character i relate to: there’s actually a few. let’s see, amy marsh - little women. alaska young - looking for alaska. regulus black - harry potter. (the original) will grayson - will grayson, will grayson
and my love language: this one i actually had no idea. so i used the love language online quiz, and besides discovering that i have a praise kink, i’ve learnt that my love language is physical touch and words of affirmation
now your questions (only if you want <3)
if you could live forever in a book, which one would you choose?
what’s your favourite thing to do when you’re bored?
if regulus and james were hanging off a cliff, who would you save first?
if you were giving 10 million dollars (or whatever your currency is) right now, what is the first thing you’d do with it? (something fun? not like saving it or buying a house)
what’s your hogwarts house?
- tmwb <3
So the colours I just felt described me best (I actually asked my mom today to give me three colours and she said the ones I chose so it was pretty accurate) but those pictures were definitely a reference to art heist, baby! I was looking for the colours and was drawn to those pictures and then realised and it was too good to not use them. That fic has truly taken over my life. And yep the swimming is truly ironic and every time I swim now I think of him… don’t worry though I can actually swim so I won’t pull a reggie
Yes that is very much Sirius of you (song choice) and I love pastels! I haven’t read will Grayson, will Grayson but I looked it up and will definitely add it to my list. Also, relating to regulus is honestly superior and he would definitely approve of this whole mysterious exchange:)
I love how I made you discover about your praise kink
So for the questions-
- my immediate thought was Harry Potter (it would have to be during the 70s though) and ideally the just lovers universe because a queer club and no war?? Yes please! The idea of magic and Hogwarts as a school has always appealed to me so it has to be that. can it be a fic? I’m gonna assume yes. Also I have to say Art heist, baby! is a close second because I just really want to learn more about art and plan+do a heist!!!!
- when I’m bored I love singing. It’s one of my favourite things to do full stop.
- now this question was just uncalled for. I’m sad and stressed and Idk what to do… there’s two ways this would go. Either I save James first because he’s strong and he can then help me save regulus or, I save regulus because that little shit is so determined and there’s no way he’s letting James fall. Realistically though, I would panic and call for remus because he would know what do do. Is this a cop out? Idk but I can’t decide!!! What would you do???? Edit because this was plaguing my mind- if the fall from the cliff led to water I would save reg first because no way am I gonna be responsible for him drowning
- ooo ok if I got that money I would give some of it to charities (I’m gonna say mainly animal shelters because animalssssss). But for the more fun stuff I would definitely go travelling. That’s always been my dream and with that money I could actually travel without having to be constantly worried about spending too much. I would also pay for sooo many acting classes because they are so fucking expensive🙄. I was gonna say more stuff but I just went back to the question and saw you said the first thing I would do so let’s just say travelling. I could do the other stuff after :)
- my Hogwarts house changes every time I do the quiz. I’ve mainly gotten slytherin and gryffindor so I’ll say a mix between the two? But I think if I actually went to Hogwarts it would be slytherin 🐍
Now for my questions-
- what’s your favourite animal? +would you consider yourself more of a cat or dog person?
- if you could choose to do anything for a day what would it be?
- what is your go to karaoke song?
- if you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?
Loving this playlist!!! I cried at somewhere only we know. Also, Valerie is one of the first songs I sang with my singing teacher so I absolutely love it! Amy winehouse is one of the greats and I know this was a different version but still. AND I SAW BILLIE EILISH SING LOVELY LIVE. IT WAS INCREDIBLE <3
Song for this ask- dream a little dream of me - Ella Fitzgerald
This song played at a restaurant today and I immediately added it to your playlist x
I think one big thing you’re learning about me through these is that I absolutely don’t know how to give simple straightforward responses😂 I am a good problem solver because of this though because my brain is always working on overdrive (not maths though, I suck at that).

Who you callin boyband?
Summary: anon requested calling the sunset curve boys a boyband and Luke reacting. Based off of Carlos calling then a boyband in the show.
Words: 1.8k
Warnings: none
Pairing: luke patterson x reader
Sorry I'm late to the anon who requested this!
...........................................
Their band had sounded amazing, as per usual. When Julie asked you if you could come watch to see if their song felt good enough for their next gig, you happily agreed. Though truthfully, you weren’t certain what she was worried about, they always sounded amazing and of course today was no exception.
“That was amazing you guys!” you chirped.
“Really?” Julie asked uncertainly.
“Definitely, I think that’s actually one of my favorites that you’ve made so far,” you assured her.
“See I told you guys she would like it,” Alex remarked from the back. You could tell from the phantom’s faces that there was a story behind his comment, but you didn’t bother asking.
“What do you guys say to some pizza to celebrate?” Julie suggested.
You agreed but you weren’t entirely certain Julie could even hear you over the boys chanting. Julie finally turned to you after they had quieted down.
“Yeah, I’ll take some,” you laughed.
“Great! I’ll let my Dad know,” she said, as she headed back up to her house. You watched her go, but your attention was soon diverted to the boys.
“You guys have to be the most pizza loving people I’ve ever met,” you teased.
“Then, you clearly have been hanging out with the wrong people,” Reggie commented.
You shrugged, “Maybe so, but you guys and pizza have more chemistry than Luke does on stage.” You took delight in the momentary look of shock on Luke’s face as you took a gulp from your water bottle. You almost thought you had him until the shock turned into a slick smile as his eyes flicked down towards yours.
“Does that mean you’re checking me out y/n?” Luke hinted. You could hear Reggie let out a oooooh in the background, but you choose to ignore it. Luke could recover quickly, you had to acknowledge that.
“Hate to break it to you Patterson, but I’m trying to manage the whole band. Not just you,” you slyly remarked.
His smile became more apparent. “But you didn’t answer the question.”
“He’s not wrong,” Alex pointed out. Reggie did finger guns towards him in agreement.
You crossed your arms and desperately hoped they didn’t realize how embarrassed you were. You leaned off the couch slightly and looked over to where Reggie and Alex were sitting. “For your information boyband, I was not checking Luke out,” you scoffed. You hoped they bought it, but that was evidently not the part that Luke was stuck on.
Luke tilted down so his arms rested at his knees, so he would be at your sitting level. “Wait, who are you callin boy band?”
“Uh, I don’t know, maybe the boy band in the room,” you said, as you gestured at them.
Luke crossed his arms too, sporting a pouty smile. “We are not a boy band.”
“You are boys. In a band. How are you not a boy band?” you argued.
“Y/n’s got a point there Luke,” Reggie agreed.
You pointed to him, “See, at least someone who’s logical is here.”
“Hey!” Alex started.
“Not you, that was directed at Luke,” you informed him.
“As you were,” Alex gestured at the two of you.
It wasn’t until you looked back at Luke that you realized your closeness to him. He couldn’t have been more than a foot away from where you sat. You cleared your throat, and you quickly tried to dismiss the thought from your mind.
“So boy band, why did you guys think I wasn’t going to like your new song?” you asked. They all exchanged seemingly panicked looks.
“Well it’s not that we thought you weren’t going to like it,” Alex trailed off.
“But like more of a general standpoint,” Reggie continued.
“Because it’s new,” Luke finished.
You suspiciously looked between the three. “Alright, what are you guys hiding?”
“Hiding? Us? Psssh,” Reggie scoffed. “I mean, it’s not like Luke-” He was cut off by Alex pressing a hand to his mouth.
“It’s not like Luke would’ve known whether you would like the song or not, is what Reggie was saying,” Alex offered as an explanation. The stink eye that the two were giving Reggie would’ve killed him on the spot if he weren’t already dead.
You were about to ask what was so important of a secret that
Reggie needed to be tackled, but Julie walked in.
“Did I just walk in on the middle of something?” she asked.
“Nope, just the boyband and their secrets,” you assured her with a slight smirk.
“Boyband, that’s new, I kinda like it,” Julie added.
Luke turned to head to the side with his mouth slightly agape as you bit down a laugh. “Thank you, that’s what I said.”
Julie was picking up on Luke’s annoyance and decided to play along. “Maybe I can get Flynn to change our name to Julie and the boyband,” she suggested.
“Oh my gosh, wouldn’t that be just perfect!” you exclaimed, being sickly sweet.
“You two are evil,” Luke said, as he threateningly pointed at the two of you.
You delightfully smirked. “What can I say Lukas, it’s my speciality,” you taunted. Reggie’s eyes went wide at the mention of his full name and Julie and Alex exchanged an amused look.
“What was that?” His grin was becoming more predatory by the second. He stood up to look down at you, and you took that as your cue to hop off the couch to face him.
“Did you miss what I said, Lukas?” You made sure to put extra emphasis on his name.
“No, I didn’t sweetheart,” he taunted back. You saw Julie raise her eyebrows from behind Luke’s shoulder. On one hand you hated that nickname but on the other hand you couldn’t tell if the growing heat on your face was from embarrassment of the name or the fact that Luke Patterson was calling you that. But you knew that you couldn’t let him know that.
“Mhmm, no we are not doing that,” you asserted.
He moved his face close enough to talk, you weren’t certain the others could hear him. “Well then don’t call me Lucas,” he bargained.
The words slipped from your mouth before your brain had a chance to realize what you were doing. “Make me,” you insisted.
You wished you could have disappeared in that moment, but alas you were stuck watching this as much as your three other friends were. When you finally opened your eyes to see what horrors you had in store for yourself, you first made eye contact with Julie; she looked rather surprised but almost a tint of impressed. You heard someone behind you clear their throat, and you turned around.
“I think we should go check if the pizza guy is here, right Julie?” Alex suggested.
Julie’s eyes went wide in realization of what was happening. “Right! Yep! You two stay here and hold the fort down!” She told you and Luke before practically sprinting out of the studio. You turned back around to see Reggie still standing there.
Alex quickly poofed back in and grabbed him as he incomprehensibly mumbled something.
Luke turned his attention back to you. “Make me, really y/n? That’s like the best you could come up with,” Luke crossed his arms.
“What would you prefer me to say?” you questioned. Something in Luke’s demeanor broke for a moment. His infamous smirk faltered, revealing something far more vulnerable behind it. “Luke, what are you guys hiding?” The puzzle pieces started to click into place about the day’s practice.
“Do you really want to know?” he timidly asked. You hadn’t seen him as nervous as he was at that moment.
You intently nodded your head.
“The guys were trying to keep it a secret, but I wrote that song myself about someone,” he shyly explained.
“Luke! That’s really cool, I knew there had to be a reason why I liked it so much.” You playfully bumped his hand.
Your response puzzled him. “You don’t want to know who it’s about?”
“Luke, your friends are not very good at keeping secrets,” you laughed.
“Are you serious?” he dumbfoundedly asked.
You couldn’t wipe the smile off your face. “Reggie accidentally told me last week,” you admitted.
“I’m gonna kill him,” Luke muttered, but you could see his lips twitching upwards.
“But he kept my secret, because he didn’t tell you that I like you back.” The last bit of your sentence was slightly mumbled as you tilted your head to the floor in embarrassment.
He softly grabbed your jaw and pulled you back up to his level.
“Sorry, I didn’t quite catch the last part.” And just like that, his smirk had returned.
You forced yourself to look up into his sparkling hazel eyes. “I like you, a lot, Luke.”
As he heard your words you swore you saw the fire in his eyes grow brighter. “I like you a lot too y/n.” His face was mere milimeters away from yours.
“Can I kiss you?” he asked softly.
Your eyes flicked from his lips back to his eyes. “Of course Patterson.” The gap closed between the two of you and it was like two worlds collided. His lips were slightly colder than yours as they softly melted into yours. You felt his one hand clutch your cheek softly, as the other held to the back of your neck. Your hands instinctively went to his hair as your kiss developed into something deeper, until the both of you had to swim to the surface for air.
As you caught your breath you realized that there were three very shocked occupants at the studio door.
You saw Reggie and Alex silently hand Julie ten bucks. “So do we have to watch you guys have eye sex still or are we good now?” Julie teased.
“Jules!” you groaned.
“She’s not wrong,” Reggie said as he walked past you.
Luke chuckled at your flustered state, “Yeah, I think we’re good now,” he responded, sending a wink in your direction that you rolled your eyes at.
“Great cause we have pizza!” Alex announced.
“Oh yay!” You were grateful for the attention being taken off of you.
“So does this mean that you were checking me out during rehearsal?” Luke asked, as you took a bite.
You rolled your eyes, but you decided to indulge him. “Yes, Patterson, I was checking you out.”
Alex grimaced. “Ohhh big mistake, he’s gonna hold that overhead for at least a month,” he warned.
You turned to Luke who clicked his tongue and finger gunned towards you in agreement. You resisted the urge to groan at your newest annoyance.
“But you’re stuck with me now,” Luke said with a mouthful.
“Luke, really?” Julie commented.
“Sorry,” he said, with his mouth still full.
You grinned at him, and despite his previous threat, you couldn’t be happier that you were finally stuck with him.

+Perfect Harmony+ (Part One) Luke x Reader
Tumblr media
Description: For Y/N Molina, it never came easy for her. The hardest part not being able to do the one thing she loved, creating music. With her cousin Julie joining a ghost band that she’s been secretly admiring for years, her all time crush not returning the same feelings, and having many untold secrets, something is bound to go wrong.
Warnings: ANGST, swearing, mention of suicidal thoughts, Ray not being that nice (I’m sorry Ray, we love you), mention of slight sexual harassment, mentions of death (duh), terrible writing, typos, and probably more that my brain can’t think of at the moment.
After Writing All Of That I’m Questioning This Story, But I Do Love It So... Many Songs Will Be Featured, Feel Free To Listen To Them When They Come Up.

+Perfect Harmony+
For Y/N Molina life wasn’t easy. Her parents, one being the sister of Ray Molina, dropped her off in front of the Molina household at the age of fourteen before going off to explore the world. At the time she was upset about the situation, but it wasn’t surprising. Her parents never wanted a kid, she practically raised herself while they were in Greece eating seafood, and sipping at the finest wine, no doubt. “How are you doing?” Rose, her cousin Julie’s mom, asks.
Y/N shrugs. “They’re never coming back, so I guess I’m going to be stuck on this couch for a while.” She actually grew quite fond of the sofa that pulled out into a bed.
“We’ll make you a room up in the loft,” Rose assures.
“So, we agree, my parents are…” Her voice fades off, inhaling through her nose.
“You know, this used to be the studio of a band.” Y/N tilts her head, looking at the older woman. “A rock band, I met them when they were going to play at The Orpheum--”
“The Orpheum?!” Y/N exclaims. “That’s amazing!”
“They were, but they died that night.” Rose stands up, walking to a box. “This is some of their stuff.” She picks it up. “I’ve heard the music you listen to, and I think you would like them.” Setting down the box in front of Y/N, she wastes no time searching through it.
“Sunset Curve?” she questions, staring down at the logo printed on the shirt. “Cool name,” she compliments with a wide smile, setting the article of clothing in her lap. She picks up a picture showing four boys. “Were these them?”
“Yes, that one was Bobby, he’s a flirt, Reggie, sweetie, Alex, very sassy--” Y/N giggles, “And Luke, he was the lead singer.”
“He’s… Quite decent looking,” Y/N observes sheepishly.
“I knew you’d think so.” Rose ruffles her hair. “Listen to the CD, you never know…”
“I will.” Y/N clutches the photo to her chest as Rose leaves. Hastily she picks up the CD that had the band's logo plastered on the plastic case. She gently places it in the player, waiting for the music to come through the speakers. And then, there it was. “They’re amazing.” She grabs the box again, pulling out an orange beanie, placing it on her head.
By the end of the night she had searched the entire studio for more stuff, gathering it, trying things on, she stayed up ‘til sunrise listening, and trying to learn each and every one of their songs, painting each of the members on canvases, writing songs about the guitarist that even though died years ago, she couldn’t help but feel connected to. A crush on a dead guy, what’s better than that?
“Boo!” Luke poofs in next to Y/N who’s currently getting her textbooks out of her locker.
“God!” she shrieks. “You need to stop doing that to me, gonna give me a heart attack,” she mutters as her fellow classmates, and random people she had never met give her weird glances. “Make people think I’m crazy.” Luke opens his mouth to reply, but Y/N beats him to it. “Yes, Luke, I know ‘we’re all a little crazy’.”
He pouts. “Someone’s grumpy today.” He crosses his arms, leaning against the locker next to hers. “But, anyways! Do you know where Julie is?”
And there Y/N’s heart was punched. “I mean, she has to be around here somewhere,” she answers, slamming the locker door. “Now, if you’d excuse me, I have to go to class.” She takes her time to turn around on her heels.
“You’re gonna be at band rehearsal before our performance, right?” he asks, making her stop.
Turning only the upper half of her body to look at him. “I think you forget I live in the studio.”
He lets out an airy chuckle. “Right.” He playfully rolls his eyes.
Unlike Julie she didn’t care if people thought she was crazy, for the number one reason being that people already thought that. Wacky, coocoo, freak, those were just some of the words people called her before her favorite band suddenly popped out of nowhere because Julie played their CD.
That always confused Y/N, why is that when she played the CD all that time ago they didn’t show up, but when Julie did, they did? She never mentioned her already known infatuation with the band, even though it most likely answers the question of why Julie and her can see the ghosts. “But, I’m grounded so…” She carelessly shrugs. “I’m stuck on party duty for the time being, so probably won’t be there for that, but I’ll be there for the actual performance.” Even though she would’ve done it anyway, Ray wanted Y/N to be more ‘supportive’.
“Oh.” His smile falters a little. “Cool, I’ll catch you later then.”
An awkward tension fills the air. “Yep.” She salutes towards him, walking off.
Grounded. No phone, only can drive her car to school, and home. Y/N wasn’t even allowed to listen to her records which she’s collected over the course of three years. And it was for the reason that she's failing multiple classes, but Ray didn’t understand the struggle she’s going through.
Let’s rewind… When Rose died it left the whole Molina family broken. But, it also left another part of Y/N broken when music became Julie’s thing at that moment, Ray not allowing Y/N to even have a guitar in her room. She loved music, all she wanted to do was sing, play every instrument, write every song with any word that popped into her mind. Julie couldn’t even touch a piano until recently, and yet, it had to only be Julie’s thing. So, now Y/N has to just secretly write songs in her red notebook knowing they’ll never be used, and secretly play in the school’s band room before any student takes a foot into the building, while she watches her cousin and the guys become ‘Julie and the Phantoms’.
What does hurt her everyday, is not being able to do something she loves because they’re afraid of how it might affect someone else. But, if Julie really cared for her family member then she’d be happy for her, right? Not to mention the way Luke looks at Julie hurts a little too, the chemistry. No one can deny it. It’s not like she’s had a crush on him before they even met him as a ghost. No, the biggest crush that she’s ever had is totally not a dead guy, and no, she’s never in the past thought about killing herself in hope to meet him if there were an afterlife, which she guesses there is now. She’s sure he loves Julie not being an absolute mess for him, and he probably knows that Y/N’s in love with him and is trying to show her he doesn’t like her in the worst way possible. “Y/N!” she internally screams, hearing the familiar voice.
“Josh…” she drags out his name. Maybe she should just give him a chance? He gives her plenty of attention. She giggles to herself when the thought crosses her mind. That wasn’t funny. An inner voice replies.
“Hey, I just… Wanted to see how you were doing, you know--just friend to friend.”
“I actually have to go to class, so we’ll talk later, ‘kay?” She tries to turn around to leave, but Josh grabs her arm to pull her back.
“Class doesn’t start for another fifteen minutes,” he counters.
“Y/N!” Luke exclaims, poofing right next to Josh. “I still haven’t found Julie, are you sure you don’t know where she is?” He almost didn’t even notice the other boy that had also been fighting for Y/N’s attention.
“I like to get to class early,” Y/N replies to Josh. “And you haven’t seen Julie around here, have you?”
“I think I saw her in the dance room.” She gives Luke a pointed look. “You know, practicing for that dance thing.”
“Yeah!” Y/N responds, not even an ounce interested in this conversation. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she noticed Luke not leaving.
“Who’s this?” he asks.
“So, Josh, I really have to go,” she claims. “I’ll see ya around!”
“Wait,” he starts. “Is this about when I tried to kiss you the other day?” Y/N tenses up,
Luke’s jaw dropping slightly.
Followed by a wide smile. “Does Y/N have a boyfriend?!” he mocks.
“No, well, yes, it is. We aren’t dating, Josh, it’s uncomfortable.” Josh huffs out. “That’s not a weird reason for why.” Y/N’s blood starts to boil.
“You should feel honored that someone would even want to kiss you, I mean your reputation here isn’t all too great, Y/N,” he states.
“Goodbye, Josh.” She turns on her heels.
Luke watches as she angrily walks away, glaring at Josh who obviously couldn’t see him. He turns slightly, glancing over his shoulder to see Julie by her locker. Giving Y/N one more glimpse he goes to do what he came here to do.
Y/N sits at her desk, rereading over the words that she colorfully wrote in her journal. “You pretty thing, with pretty things inside,” she sings quietly. She slams the book closed when she finds herself getting annoyed by just how untalented she was.
“I think that Nick guy has a crush on Julie,” Luke reports, once again magically appearing in front of her. He was taken aback when she didn’t react.

October 1994
“Ow.”
You groaned as you collapsed in the middle seat of the back of Bobby’s car, so tired that you practically fell asleep the second you got off your feet. It was your second weekend in a row of playing all day shows, and every part of your body was screaming at you in exhaustion.
“Remind me why we’re happy about this gig again?” Alex grumbled from the passenger seat, stretching out his no-doubt sore fingers.
Next to you, Reggie had slumped in his seat. “I can’t feel my legs.”
Even Luke, who was usually still full of adrenaline after a performance, looked a little deflated as he secured his guitar into the trunk and piled into the car. As soon as he sat down in his usual seat on your left, he dropped his entire weight on you, making you fall into Reggie.
“You okay there, Lu?” You asked as you sat as up-right as you could with him still leaning on your shoulder. He muttered sleepily in response and you laughed. “Guys, I think Luke’s dead.”
“I don’t blame him. I’m pretty sure that’s the hardest we’ve ever played.” Bobby sighed as he pulled out of the parking lot and started to drive in the direction of Reggie’s house to drop him off. You relaxed into your seat, watching the lights fly by the window. You all sat in comfortable silence until Bobby pulled up to a red light and turned around to look at all of you. “Votes for just crashing at the garage?”
You agreed immediately since the studio was a lot closer than any of your houses, and having Bobby drive when he was tired probably wasn’t the smartest idea.
“I could definitely go for not going home.” Alex said and you smiled at him sympathetically. Reggie agreed and turned to ask Luke, but all he got was the sound of quiet snoring in response. You all laughed as Bobby turned around and started driving to his house.
The quiet rumble of the car on the road and the warmth of Luke’s skin against yours was making you more and more tired by the second. You leaned over and rested your head on top of his and closed your eyes.
The drive to the garage was shorter than you thought, but by the time you got there, you were practically ready to pass out.
It took all your energy to gently coax Luke out of your shoulder and hop out of the car to help Bobby unload the equipment out of the trunk and back into the loft. While you were up there, you grabbed a pile of sleeping bags and blankets to give to the boys who were now arguing over what to watch.
They settled on The Empire Strikes Back, per Reggie’s request. You watched it absentmindedly from your spot on the couch, wrapped up in a cocoon of blankets. The more time went by, the more your tiredness faded away, leaving you restless and frustrated. When the movie reached the halfway point, you had officially given up on sleeping.
You didn’t realize that you were sighing until Luke, who was laying on the floor under your head, opened his eyes. “You okay?”
“Yeah, sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.” You muttered.
“It’s okay, I can’t sleep either.” Luke said. “Not when Alex snores like a bear.”
You laughed, looking over to Alex who was sleeping deeply across the room, his snore blocking out the sound of the movie. “Yeah, thank god he’s the only one that does that.”
“Are you trying to say that I snore?” Luke gasped, squinting when you laughed and nodded your head at him. After a minute of silence, Luke looked up at you. “Can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, of course.” You said.
“Why didn’t you want to go home?” He asked. “Everything okay with your mom?”
“Yeah, she’s just been working a lot lately and it feels weird being home alone.” You said. “What about your mom?”
Luke was quiet for a minute, so quiet that you almost thought that he fell asleep until he let out a deep sigh. He had told you that things were getting rockier between him and his parents everyday but you could tell by the grimace on his face that something more was going on. “She threatened to make me quit the band.”
“Wait, what?” You said a little too loudly.
“I got an F on a test and she flipped out.” Luke explained. “But if I pass the next one, hopefully she’ll stay off me for a while.”
“I’m surprised that she even let you stay here tonight.” You said.
“Yeah, about that.” Luke cringed. “I didn’t exactly ask her.”
You sighed and shook your head. “You know she’s gonna kill you when you go home tomorrow, right?”
He rolled his eyes but then quickly switched to his puppy-dog look. “Come with me?”
“What? No, I’m not gonna be your accomplice.”
“Please?” Luke begged. “She loves you, and there’s no way she’d kill me if you were there.”
You sighed, cursing yourself for not being able to resist his stupid face. “Fine, but you owe me.”
“Yes, Ma’am.” Luke beamed.
You reached your arm from the couch and pushed his face lightly. “Go to sleep, weirdo.”

2020
Being dead was boring.
You had poured over your songbook a dozen times, walked laps around the studio, and absentmindedly threw darts against the wall.
Normally, you would drag Alex out into the city or make Reggie sing country songs with you, but everyone was off getting ready for the gig tonight.
So with nothing better to do, you decided to visit Julie at school. You closed your eyes and poofed into the crowded hallway. You spotted Julie putting books into her locker and you phased right next to her.
“Hi.” You greeted and Julie jumped, letting out a quiet squeal.
“(Y/n)! Normal people don’t do that and ghosts definitely shouldn’t. “What are you doing here?” She asked, smiling awkwardly at people who were giving her weird looks as they passed down the hall.
“Well, I think we should decide what song we’re going with tonight.” You said and Julie tilted her head at you and squinted, knowing that you weren’t telling the whole truth. “Okay, and I was also really bored at the studio.”
“So I’m your entertainment?” She questioned as she dug her phone out of her pocket and raised it to her ear so it didn't look like she was talking to herself.
“Yep, you’re stuck with me.” You smiled sweetly.
“Who knew ghosts were so clingy?” She joked, struggling to hold back a smile when you pouted back at her. “Aren’t you supposed to be hanging out with that mysterious guy from the café last night? Teddy?”
“I figured I’d be too busy getting ready for the gig so I just swung by and told him to come to the show.” You explained, making Julie raise her eyebrows. “What?”
“Nothing.” She clicked her tongue. "I’m sure Luke is gonna love that.”
You rolled your eyes. “Yeah, well, Luke doesn’t get to have an opinion.”
“I don’t get to have an opinion on what?” A voice asked from behind you and you whirled around to find Luke leaning against the lockers with a smile. You had been so distracted talking to Julie that you didn’t even hear him phase in behind you.
“The fact that we’re doing ‘Edge of Great’ tonight.” You said quickly, desperately hoping that he bought your lie. Thankfully, he seemed to believe you.
“Sweet. That’s what I was thinking anyway.” He turned to Julie. “Hey, why not ditch school today? Let’s go rehearse!”
“What? No, I can’t. I promised my dad that school comes first. Plus, I have the dance with Nick today.” She reasoned and you smirked, thinking back at the way that he was staring at her at the dance.
“Ooh, Nick.” You teased and Julie glared at you. After a brief second, her eyes widened. You turned to see Nick walking towards her and you quickly grabbed Luke’s wrist and dragged him to the side so they could talk. "Speak of the devil."
“Hey, Julie!” Nick smiled warmly. “Ready for our performance?”
“Yeah, we’re gonna do great.” Julie shoved her phone into her bag, clearly trying not to look over at you and Luke who were watching with rapt attention.
“I’m glad you’re confident. I think that after three classes, I just got worse. But good thing I have my secret weapon.” Nick nervously shoved his hands in his pockets and you couldn’t help but smile at Nick’s way of awkwardly flirting.
Next to you, Luke whooped. “Oh, I think someone’s got a little crush on our Julie.”
You cringed a little as you looked over at him, expecting to see jealousy on his face. But if anything, he looked the exact opposite. Amused and eager to tease Julie about it, the same way he did back when Reggie tried to hit on girls after a gig. He caught you looking at him and softly smiled, a dramatic shift from the teasing smirk he had on a second ago.
“Shut up,” Julie said to Luke, cringing when Nick frowned at her. “I mean, shut up.”
“No, seriously, Molina. I’m nothing without you.” He said. You walked behind Nick, peering over his shoulder to make kissy faces at her which made Luke laugh.
"I'm sure you'll be great." She pushed his shoulder, making you jump back a little. “See you in there?"
“Yeah, I’ll be the guy trying not to make us look stupid.” You watched him walk away before turning to Julie.
"Julie, he totally likes you!" You laughed excitedly.
"Boundaries." She reminded you, but there was a smile on her face. You and Luke both raised your hands in surrender and she waved over her shoulder as she walked away. "I'll see you guys after school, okay?"
Once she was gone, Luke shook his head dramatically. "They grow up so fast."
You snorted. "C'mon, dork. Let's go rehearse."
-
After getting back to the studio, you immediately snapped into pre-gig mode.
You collapsed on the floor near the couch, sticking your legs up against the armrest next to Reggie as you all listened to Luke go over the song, he ran his pencil along the paper. "So we add the echoes and then the girls come in with the melody.”
You nodded. “Julie gets home in like an hour and then we can start rehearsing.”
Suddenly, there was a loud thud on the garage door and you spun around just in time to see Willie’s head disappear. You frowned and looked over at Alex for an explanation but he just shook his head.
“Again? What’s that about?” Reggie asked but Alex had already poofed out to chase the other boy. You frowned as you stared at the space where he was just sitting, thinking about how happy he was about Willie not even two days ago.
Just as quickly as he left, Alex came phasing back in with a hurt look on his face. You immediately sat up to question him but he just strolled over to his drums and suggested starting practice.
You all agreed reluctantly and got into place. Luke counted down and started to play, stopping almost immediately as Alex started going off course, slamming on his drums a little harder than necessary.
“Al, you okay?” You asked gently as he set down his drumsticks.
“Yeah, why?”
“I know it’s tough, man. They say you never forget your first ghost.” Reggie tried to reassure him. “But I’m sure there will be others.”
“Yeah, and you’re a great drummer and an even greater guy.” You added. “Don’t let all this get in the way of your music.”
“I don’t know. Sometimes a little fire can make things better on stage.” Reggie said, pointing between you and Luke. “Like you guys.”
You were thankful that Luke was behind you and couldn’t see the look on your face. You glared at Reggie but he just smirked back at you, and you made a mental note to kick his ass later.
“What’s your point, Reg?” Playing dumb probably wasn’t your best move, but you could you really didn’t want to make things awkward with Luke again.
“I’m just saying when you play your little on-stage game,” Reggie said. “You guys ooze chemistry.”
“You should never say ‘ooze’ again, but yeah, I agree.” Alex piped up from behind his drums, giving you a shit-eating grin. Great, now you had two asses to kick.
You looked back at Luke to find him already staring at you as he rubbed the back of his neck. You shared a bashful smile before looking everywhere but each other.
“Yeah, but I have chemistry with everyone I sing with.” Luke reasoned, sounding a little panicked. “Watch.”
He walked over to Reggie and sang directly in his face, making you and Alex struggle not to laugh.
“I see chemistry.” Alex joked.
“That was pretty hot.” Reggie admitted as Luke kissed his fingers and pressed them against Reggie’s lips, making him sputter awkwardly. “Girls, am I right?”
Luke laughed as he walked back over to his spot and tugged his guitar strap over his shoulder. “Yeah.”
“No.” Alex said with a smile, making you burst out laughing.
-
Hours later, you stood on your tip-toes, peering out at the crowd that had grown enough to fill the entire driveway.
As they all waited for the show to start, you reached down and felt the outline of your parent’s photo shoved in your pocket. You patted it for good luck, the way you always did before a performance.
Julie stood in front of the garage doors as they were pulled open. There was a wave of applause and Julie settled behind her mic, greeting everyone before starting her solo. Her voice rang out clear over the soft piano, and everyone watched intently, waiting for the rest of you to appear. On top of the balcony, the fake projector clicked on and you took your cue, smiling at the crowd as your voice joined Julie’s.
Just like every time you made your entrance, everyone gasped in surprise and cheered.
You did your best to pose as you sang and danced around, trying to get everyone hyped up. A few people held up their cameras and took pictures, one girl holding her phone so close to your face that you were a little worried that it would go through your head.
Out of the corner of your eye, there was a sudden bright light. For a second, you thought it was just another person taking a picture with their flash, but then you looked over to see Teddy leaning against the wall. He waved a little and you gave him a small smile before going back to the song.
Just as Luke’s verse started, he followed your eyes and saw Teddy, his usual charming smile faltering for a second before locking eyes with you.
Then it was time for your verse with Julie, so you turned away from Luke and strolled towards the piano, watching as Julie crawled on top of it. You followed her lead and sat on the edge, facing the audience and launching into the lyrics.
You could hear Teddy cheering loudly to your right, catching the attention of the whole band, but mostly Luke. As the music softened, Luke suddenly abandoned his spot behind his microphone and was now slowly walking towards you.
He started playing a solo that definitely wasn't planned and almost drowned out the sound of both your and Julie’s voices. When you turned around, you found that he was only a few feet away.
Luke put on his flirty, on-stage face as he slowly inched forward until he was right in front of you. But there was another layer under it. Something sharper and completely unfamiliar. You must’ve seen a hundred different expressions on Luke's face but he had never looked at you like that before.
You tried to look over Julie, who was looking at the two of you with a smirk, but Luke seemed determined to keep your attention. You were extremely grateful that you couldn't blush because you would've been bright red.
The bubble was broken as the chorus started up again and Luke smirked at you one last time before walking back to his microphone. The crowd roared and you took a breath, mentally cursing him and his stupid face for distracting you.
The soft piano came back in and the boys phased away as you and Julie finished the song. You bowed and disappeared, poofing back into the garage.
-
It was just after dark when the last of the crowd went home.
Julie stayed around for a while but she eventually went inside too, leaving the four of you alone in the cold night air.
You sat on the concrete of the driveway, your songbook propped up on your knee as you watched the boys play basketball. You cheered them on and absentmindedly scribbled doodles on the corners of pages of your old songs.
There was a sharp pop in the air and you looked up to see Teddy standing at the end of the driveway, his hands in his pockets as he walked closer.
You had been so caught up in Luke during the performance and then celebrating with the band afterward that by the time you went to look for Teddy, he had disappeared. You quickly got up and brushed off your legs before running to meet him.
“Hey! There you are, you kinda disappeared.” You said and Teddy cleared his throat.
“Yeah, sorry. Uh, can we walk somewhere? We really need to talk.” Teddy said and you cringed when you realized that it suddenly went completely quiet behind you.
You looked back at your friends who were all watching you with different expressions. Reggie looked almost nervous as he fidgeted with the basketball in his hands. Next to him, Alex stared Teddy down with his trademark intense glare and Luke just stood there with his arms crossed as he stared into the street behind you.
“Yeah, okay.” You said quickly, hoping to avoid any more awkwardness. You went to lead Teddy away when suddenly the boys stumbled back, groaning painfully as they were hit with another shock. “Shit!"
Without fully meaning to, you ran to Luke first, quickly inspecting him and watching him carefully as he winced in pain. You glanced over to Reggie and Alex to make sure they were okay before turning back to Luke.
“It’s getting worse.” Luke told you as he rubbed his chest.
“Why is this happening to us?” Reggie asked.
Suddenly, a familiar voice cut through the air. "It’s because you guys are in serious trouble.”
You whipped around to see Willie nervously wringing his hands as he stepped into the light.
Alex took a step closer to him, looking dazed like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “Willie?”
“Like I said,” Teddy said suddenly, making everyone look at him. “We need to talk.”
-
Even though you weren’t supposed to be able to get cold anymore, a chill overtook your whole body as you walked down the street.
You could hear everyone talking in front of you but your brain had shut off after Willie explained the basics the first time. Not only was he secretly working for an evil club owner, but Teddy, who you thought was your friend, was teaming up with him in order to steal your soul and make you and your best friends play in a house band for all eternity.
Your brain was so full that you felt like any more information would make you short-circuit.
“So, all these shocks are because of the stamps that Caleb put on us?” Luke asked, pulling you out of your thoughts.
“He’s threatened by you,” Willie explained as he stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and whipped around. “You’re the only ghosts that lifers can see without his help.”
Alex, who had been just as quiet as you this whole time suddenly spoke up. “And you let him do this to us?”
“I can’t stop him.” Willie tried to defend himself. “He owns my soul!”
“He owns half of Hollywood’s souls.” Teddy butted in. “It’s kind of his thing.”
Willie took a deep, unsteady breath. “If he even knew we were here talking to you…”
He didn’t finish, but from the pained look on his face, you could tell that he couldn’t have been going anywhere good with that sentence.
Next to you, Reggie crossed his arms. “So if we don’t join his club, this power outage keeps going on until there’s no power left?”
Willie nodded and Reggie scoffed. “And what exactly happens when the power goes out?”
Teddy cleared his throat. “You disappear forever. No crossing over, you just...stop existing.”
“So we have no choice?” Luke snapped as he glared at Teddy. “We have to leave our friend, our band, behind to work for Caleb forever?”
“There is another option.” Teddy said. “If you could figure out your unfinished business, you could cross over in time and be free from all of it.”
“Okay, so what’s our unfinished business?” Luke asked.
“I don’t know.” Teddy gestured to all of you. “But since you all died at the same time, it’s probably something you have to do together.”
“Why should we listen to anything either of you has to say?” Alex said as he glared at both Teddy and Willie. He sounded so betrayed that it made your stomach turn.
“Because I care about you, Alex.” Willie pleaded. “I hate that it’s my fault that you and your friends are in this mess.”
It was quiet for a minute before he looked around anxiously. “I can’t be gone any longer. I’m sorry.”
With that, he disappeared.
“Don’t be too hard on Willie,” Teddy said once he was gone. “He wanted out of the plan the minute Caleb told us everything.”
“And what about you?” You asked, trying to contain your anger and Teddy sighed.
“(Y/n), I know that being your friend started out as a lie,” He pleaded. “But it’s not anymore.”
“You really expect me to believe that?” You scoffed.
“Look, I know you don’t know me, but I know you.” He ran a hand through his hair. “I know how much Cece cared about you, and I know that this isn’t what she would’ve wanted.”
As if everything wasn’t enough, being reminded of Cece made you feel even worse. Teddy was your last connection to her and now you couldn't even stand to be near him. “I think you should go.”
“(Y/n), please-” Teddy tried to take a step closer to you but Alex fixed him with a look so intense that he backed up almost immediately. With a sigh, he phased away, leaving the four of you out on the street alone.
“This is all my fault.” Alex said, his voice breaking a little. “I met Willie, and he introduced us to Caleb.”
“Alex, no.” You shook your head. “This isn’t anyone’s fault.”
“We have to tell Julie.” Reggie said, washing a new wave of sadness over all of you.
“We can’t.” You said. “She’s lost too much already.”
“If we don’t want Caleb to own our souls, we need to figure out our unfinished business.” Luke started walking further down the street.
“And how are we supposed to do that?” Alex asked as you all followed him. “There was so much that we wanted to do.”
Luke suddenly stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, his eyes trailing up to the buildings. “The night we died, there was one thing we wanted to do together.”
You followed his eyes to see the Orpheum’s sign casting a blue glow on the street. “Play the Orpheum?”
“Getting that gig was impossible,” Alex said. “We had to call in favors and impress who knows how many club owners. It took us years.”
Just as the last word got out, they were hit with another shock. You cringed in sympathy and rested your hand on Alex’s arm.
“We don’t have years.” Luke said through a groan as he clutched his chest.
-
Everyone went their separate ways once you made it back to the garage.
Reggie went up to the house, and Alex barely sat still for five minutes before he left to go on a walk, leaving just you and Luke.
You sat on the rungs of the loft's ladder, staring up at the ceiling as you tried to process everything that's happened. Getting so close to living out your dream only to die and become a ghost, finding out that people could still hear you play, Bobby betraying all of you, meeting Julie and Teddy. It all felt so unreal.
There is no way you’d believe any of it if someone told you all this would happen back when you were alive.
Suddenly, Luke appeared at the base of the ladder, frowning up at you. "Uh-oh. You’re perched up there again.”
“What?” You questioned.
“In your thinking spot.” Luke laughed. “Why do you think we all called you ‘Batman’ in seventh grade?”
"How could I not be thinking right now, Lu?" You said as you carefully slid down to the floor, and Luke backed up slightly to give you space. “I mean, we just found out that we have to play an impossible gig and cross over or you guys will-”
The words died in your throat. You couldn’t even bring yourself to talk about possibly losing any of them. Just thinking about it opened a black hole in your chest.
But there was something else on your mind too. Even though you told Alex that it wasn’t anyone’s fault, you couldn’t help but feel guilty about trusting Teddy. But for Cece’s sake, you wanted to believe that he was actually your friend.
You wanted to tell Luke everything you were thinking, or at least try to explain why you didn’t take his advice. But of course, Luke already knew what was going on inside your head.
“None of this is your fault, Squeaks.” He reassured. Your lips quirked up slightly at the nickname. You almost couldn’t remember the last time he called you that and hearing it again immediately made you feel warm. "Besides, your unique ability to blindly trust people is one of my favorite things about you."
You snorted and Luke fought a laugh before continuing. “Well, that and your snort.”
“If you’re gonna be mean to me, I’m going back up to my perch.” You jokingly turned towards the ladder but Luke was quick to grab your hand, turning your back around and pulling you closer to him.
You looked up at Luke as his fingers intertwined with yours. You had held hands with Luke countless times, and you hated the fact that it affected you as much as it always did. It was normally just a way of comforting each other. But after the way he acted during the gig, you couldn’t help but wonder if…
“Hey,” Luke said. “We’re gonna figure everything out.”
“How do you know?”
Luke gave you a smile as he pulled you even closer and wrapped his arms around you. “When have I ever been wrong?”
You laughed and Luke squeezed your hand playfully in response. Your head was still spinning with everything that happened tonight, but the guilt had lessened a little as you tucked your head into his shoulder.
You don't know how long you stayed like that. It felt like hours and seconds all at the same time, but when you finally did pull away, you found yourself frozen in place. Your arms still locked each other, your face now just inches away from his.
“(Y/n), I…” Luke started, his voice uncertain as his eyes drifted down to your lips.
Holy shit.
You blinked up at him, actively trying not to freak out while you waited for whatever his next move was going to be. Were you hallucinating or was Luke about to kiss you?
Just as he went to speak again, there was a bright flash and Alex poofed in just a few feet away. As soon as he saw your and Luke’s position, his jaw dropped and he mumbled nonsense for a few seconds before clearing his throat.
“Hey.” He said, sending you an apologetic look as you and Luke separated so fast that it made you dizzy. “(Y/n), can I talk to you for a second?”
You slowly nodded and smiled awkwardly at Luke before grabbing Alex’s arm and dragging both of you out of the studio. All your thoughts from earlier disappeared and were replaced with one simple question:
What the hell just happened?

filipino!bobby? filipino!bobby.
au where bobby is not trevor (aka trevor is his and carrie’s pa) : modern day edition where alex, luke, and reggie are alive
he’s a second gen immigrant, his mother being philippine-born, making carrie their half-sister.
bobby is protective of his ma (she’s still alive but her and trevor are divorced), because he’s had to witness racism/microaggression directed at his ma.
point above is the common reasons they got into fights as a kid (only increased as they grew up and learnt more about those issues).
bobby’s ma once confronted him about a fight that got him suspended he punched another kid and was considered ‘rude/troublesome’ by his teacher and principal. seeing his ma cry and stress over the whole school situation prompted them to tell her the reason for the fight. the kid had made fun of his ma being a nanny.
^ why he’s the mom friend. they learnt to be independent at a young age to make his ma’s life easier.
bobby was pretty short as a kid, and had a late grow spurt that shook luke cause dude ur voice? hella deep <3
he and his ma are a part of this lil filipino community in l.a. it’s also where he met kayla (who was nearly named princess).
trevor wasn’t immune to the so called l.a. rock n roll lifestyle but he finally decided to get better, starts going to therapy cause he doesn’t want to miss another child of his growing up.
bobby finally met trevor and it wasn’t a great meeting in general. made it clear right off the bat that they didn’t need him in their life cause they were doing ok.
but his ma got sick to the point she needed to be hospitalized, bobby was ready to quit school and not bother with high school at all in favor of finding a full time job. medical bills on top of their monthly ones are expensive. trevor had a heart to heart with bobby “i know how important she is to you but you’re still a kid, bobby. you’re allowed to be selfish, to argue for your wants, it isn’t your job to make your mother’s life easier. she’s not your responsibility.”
those words made them breakdown, it’s perhaps the first time he cried in front of someone (bonus: it’s the first time he and trevor shared a hug) because while bobby undeniably loves his ma, there is still that pressure for him to be more mature than his age, to be well behaved, and excel. the expectation to know everything right off the bat is drilled into his mind. it wasn’t something he shared or spoke about. so trevor telling him that it’s okay to ask for help? prompted him into giving trevor a chance to be a part of their life.
making music with luke and eventually alex and reggie was their way of letting their feelings out. he’s written several songs he hasn’t shared with the band, cause they were more than happy to be dragged along by luke’s energy.
his mother remarried and he began to stay @ trevor’s home more. they still talk and often meet up, occasionally spends the holidays together and has a great relationship with his half-siblings but they can’t deny that living with trevor felt like a big relief.
the arguments/reconciliations/support/the open discussions about their thoughts, and feelings lifted a big weight off his shoulders.
he would take carrie with him to the lil community gatherings he and his ma often attended (she met kayla there) to show her a bit about filipino culture.
bobby, carrie, and kayla would play nanay tatay (filipino clapping game) they still do to this day.
carrie absolutely loves the nights bobby is cooking, more so when he cooks sopas or his version of spaghetti.
the first tagalog word carrie learnt is kuya (brother) and perhaps he cried i mean who wouldn’t when picturing smol carrie asking her kuya for a piggyback or something?
alex, luke, and reggie knows several tagalog phrases/words. they picked it up over the years of friendship (yep, they know how to swear in tagalog and kain na! aka time to eat). consider him surprised when they insisted that they can tell carrie that the food is ready. tbfh they only wanted to hear which of them could shout ‘kain na’ the loudest.
though his pronunciation needs more work, reggie knows more tagalog than luke and alex. bobby doesn’t know what to do with that fact. first thing reggie independently learnt is how to say ‘home is where my horse is’ (my tagalog is rusty af so i won’t even try to translate it but bahay = house/home && kabayo = horse nvm imma give it a go) ang bahay ko ay kung saan ang kabayo ko (???????)
ube flavored ice cream <3
also arcades and basketball are their other hobbies apart from making music
several sunset curve gigs were at filipino festivals like samahan cultural arts festival in san diego/historic filipinotown festival in l.a. (thnx to this they ended up with an international fan base before they even secured a gig @ the orpheum).
this ended up a lot longer than expected but i have no regrets.

13 with willex? you can choose who’s the lee and the ler :)
anon i love this pairing, i love this prompt, and i love you for requesting it /p
word count: 1,170
prompt list can be found here!
prompt 13: "don't laugh while i'm trying to talk to you!"
warning: this is a sfw tickle fic! don't read if that makes you uncomfortable :]
Alex tapped a drumstick lightly on the cymbal of his drumstick, bored out of his mind. Luke was following Julie to school to “ask her something important,” and Reggie wanted to eavesdrop. Alex, on the other hand, wanted to respect their privacy. That, and he honestly didn’t have much interest. So, instead, he told himself he’d just stay in the garage and practice… but he didn’t want to. Practicing without the whole band there just felt… off.
He had tried to play a few songs, but they felt incomplete without Reggie’s chill bass notes, Luke’s killer guitar riffs, and Julie’s angelic vocals. Alex fiddled with the drumsticks in his hands, unsure what to do. A four wheeled car couldn’t run when only one wheel was attached to it.
However, when your car needs another wheel, you can attach a spare tire if you had one. It wasn’t the exact same as the other tires on the vehicle, but it would still work in place. Little did he know, there was a spare tire lying around.
“Boo.”
Alex jumped in place when he felt two cold hands on his shoulders, a gasp coming out of his mouth as he felt his heart beat faster. He turned around in his seat, a half-groan coming out of his mouth. “Hello, Willie.”
Willie, who was smiling like a puppy that just got adopted from the shelter, giggled softly and rested his arms on Alex’s shoulders. “Hi, babe.” He said, planting a soft kiss on the other’s cheek before looking around. “The rest of the band is busy today, huh?”
“Yup, and I was bored out of my mind a few moments ago.” Alex stood up, holding Willie’s hand. “And now, you’re here, so I don’t have to worry about that.” He smiled softly, focusing his energy to poof them up to the loft balcony below. Once they teleported, Alex noticed a leather jacket on the floor, picking it up.
“Looks like Reggie forgot his jacket… again.” He sighed, picking it up and hanging it up on the coat hanger behind him.
“Is that common?” Willie asked, crossing his arms and sitting down in one of the bean bags on the loft.
“Yes, very common.” The drummer groaned. “Reggie always leaves his stuff around on the floor. Even before we died, he’d always do it back in the day. I always tell him to pick it up, and he passes it off, saying he’ll do it later, and he never does. Luke’s even worse, he leaves all of his stuff everywhere, and-“ Alex paused, taking a look at the smile on Willie’s face. “What? Why are you smiling?”
“No reason.” The skateboarder smirked, crossing his arms.
“No reason? There’s definitely a reason.”
“I’m telling you, there’s no reason! No reason at all.”
“Right. Yeah. Totally. Of course, there’s no rea- AH!” Alex yelled when he felt a pair or arms wrap around him and lift him off the ground slightly. He turned around when set down, only to be greeted with the laughing perpetrator. “Reggie!”
The bassist, who had seemingly teleported behind him while Alex was ranting, laughed and clutched his stomach. “Hehey, Alehex! I got you good, didn’t I!” He giggled as the other rolled his eyes. “Thanks for not ratting be out, Willie.”
“No problem.” Willie chuckled, happy to take part in a bit of mischief.
“Did you seriously come back just to scare me?” Alex asked, crossing his arms.
“Yep! And it was totally worth it.” Reggie giggled.
“Oh, wait.” As much as Alex wanted to stay mad at Reggie, he still cared for his friends. He headed to the coat hanger, picking up the jacket he had just put on there. “You forgot your-“
It was too late. Reggie had already poofed out and teleported elsewhere.
“…Jacket.” Alex finished, sighing and putting the jacket back on the coat hanger. He looked over to see Willie giggling softly, and couldn’t help but smile. He walked over and sat down on the beanbag next to his.
“You thought that was funny, huh?” He lightheartedly groaned at his boyfriend.
“Ihi’m sorry!” Willie said with a grin. “You know I’m always one for some mischief! And seeing the look on your face was definitely worth it.”
Alex could feel heat rising up in his cheeks, and he didn’t know if it was because he was embarrassed, or if it was because Willie was just so fucking cute. Willie was certain to notice, leaning his head back and laughing loudly.
“Willie-“
“Oh cohome on, it was fuhunny!”
“Willie, don’t laugh while I’m trying to talk to you!”
“Ihi’m sorry, Ihi’m sorry!” He giggled. “It’s just… you’re so cute when you get annoyed with me.”
If Alex thought he wasn’t blushing before, he was definitely blushing now. He looked away for a second, unsure why he felt this flustered and embarrassed. “W-Well, you’re cute too.” He stammered out, immediately covering his face with his hand.
“Awww, thanks hotdog.” Willie grinned.
Suddenly, Alex had an idea. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves, moving his beanbag closer to Willie. “Actually, you’re cuter than me. And I’ll prove it to you.”
“And how to you plan to do that?” An entertained Willie leaned towards his boyfriend.
“Well… since you seem to like to laugh so much…” Alex smirked, quickly pulling Willie towards him and wiggling fingers into his ribs. The other’s giggles immediately escalated, not even trying to hide themselves.
“WaHAhait- Ahahalehex!” Willie giggled, squirming around, but not necessarily trying to squirm out of his boyfriend’s grasp.
“What’s up, Willie? Why are you laughing so much? Can you tell me?” Alex teased, moving his fingers up to scribble around in the other’s underarms.
“Yohohou knohow whyhy!”
“Well, actually, no, I don’t because you’re not telling me.”
“Meheheahan!” Willie laughed softly.
“Mean? You think I’m being mean? I can’t believe you!” Alex faked a gasp and pulled Willie closer to him, moving his hands back down to dance around his ribs. He didn’t want to go extremely tough, but he did crank up the intensity a small bit, smiling as he heard Willie’s laughter rise a bit in volume. At the same time, he started to plant tickley kisses all over Willie’s neck and cheeks.
“AhaHAlehex!” He scrunched up his shoulders on instinct, laughing softly. The drummer eventually slowed down, letting Willie catch his breath.
“Yohohou’re suhuch a dohork.” Willie giggled softly.
“And you’re adorable.” Alex smiled, leaning down and giving his boyfriend a kiss on the forehead.
“So are you.”
“Well, I’m not the one who giggles like a child whenever he gets kissed.” Alex chuckled.
“Is that a challenge?” Willie raised an eyebrow, quickly pushing himself off of Alex’s lap.
“I-” Alex blushed once more, leaning back into the beanbag he was sitting in. “No, it’s noHOT-”
He was cut off by being pulled into Willie’s lap, wrapped into a hug, and small kisses being planted on his face.
His earlier statement was proven wrong instantly.

Birthday Buddies - Colby Brock
You and Sam share the same birthday and Colby conjures up a plan for the party to be perfect for the both of you.
Requested by @sam-xplr-colby
Warnings: some curse words
Word Count: 1.8k+
--------------------------------------------------
November 27th, the big day. It was your birthday, and it was Sam’s too. Colby’s two favorite people were born on the same day and he made sure to make it special for both of you each year. He would throw the best party that had both of your interests tied together for the theme and they were always the best. Right now, he and the gang were decorating the trap house for the event of the double birthday and you and Sam were wandering aimlessly around the mall.
“What do you think he’s doing this year?” you asked the blond before taking a sip of the coffee you had gotten earlier.
“With Colby, there is no telling what he’s got planned,” he snickered down at you. He watched as your mouth dropped open in surprise and you let out an excited shriek. Sam’s eyebrows drew together before he followed your line of sight to see what had gotten you so excited only to see it was the Disney store.
“Look at the little baby Yoda plushie, Sam!” you squealed as you grabbed his hand to drag him towards the shop. He about tripped over his own two feet, but thankfully he made it there safely. “It’s adorable!”
“He is a cute little fella,” Sam agreed as you two awed at the tiny green Jedi master through the display window. “Wanna go inside? We have a lot of time to waste.”
“Sure,” you nodded your head at the blond and followed him into the store. After a few hours of walking around the mall slipping in and out of shops, you two went to the krac house to get ready.
“It’s cute how you guys do this every year,” Cassie muttered softly as she remained focused on blending together the colors of your eyeshadow.
“Do what?” you inquired. You had slipped into the routine, barely even noticing that it was a common reoccurrence.
“How Colby and Kat decorate the house and throw a party to some theme that Colby has been planning for months and while they do that, you and Sam get to hang out all day and celebrate each other’s birthdays. You can’t tell me that isn’t adorable,” she lightly giggled as a small smile tugged at your lips. It was kind of a cute idea. The love of your life and best friend throw a whole party for you and your other best friend while you two get to have fun.
“Yeah, and it’s nice to hang out with just Sam. I almost never get to because Colby is normally there or Jake or Corey too. He’s a pretty cool guy when it’s just him,” you told her while she dusted off the setting powder that rested below your eyes.
“Yeah, the only person who really gets a good bit of alone time with Sam is…” she started.
“Colby,” you two chorused before giggles flew from your mouths.
“Okay, you’re all done, birthday girl,” Cassie announced before letting you look at yourself in the mirror.
“Damn, Cassie! This looks good,” you complimented as you stared in awe at your own reflection.
“That’s all you, y/n,” she grinned at you through the mirror while she spoke.
“Stop, you are the sweetest. I love you, Cass. Thanks,” you told her before pulling her into your embrace. Her laugh sounded in your ear as she hugged you back, but she soon pulled away.
“Now, let’s get you dressed,” she stated excitedly which caused you to groan. You loved getting your makeup done. It was super therapeutic for you but realizing that you were going to be dressed up all night was not something you were looking forward to. “Stop whining. Colby will love it.”
And love it he did.
“Y/n, baby, you look amazing!” Colby told you as he took your hand in his and spun you around before pulling you close. “Happy birthday, love,” he muttered before pressing his lips to yours. Your moment with him was cut short by the clearing of someone’s throat nearby.
“As cute as this is, can we go in? I really wanna see what it looks like in there,” Sam stated, his words followed by a grin. You pulled away from Colby a bit and let your hand slide down his arm and into his hand, your fingers intertwining with his.
“I wanna see inside too,” you giggled as you looked at the front door of the house you knew all too well.
“Right this way,” Colby joked as he ushered you and Sam towards the door.
“Are you ready, birthday girl?” Sam asked as he stuck his arm out for you to grab. You giggled before linking your arm with his.
“Yep, birthday boy.” Sam turned the knob and pushed the door open to reveal where all your friends stood, cheering and recording the moment to save.
“Happy birthday guys!” they shouted in unison as white, green, blue, and orange balloons and confetti were thrown in the air above you and Sam. You turned into the blond to help shield yourself from the falling pieces of paper and glitter as you both laughed to each other.
Once it had all fallen on top of you two, you both pulled away from each other to look around. You noticed the balloons that were on the ground. The white ones had storm troopers on them, the green had Yoda, the blue was R2-D2, and the orange ones had BB-8 printed on the latex.
“It’s Star Wars themed,” Sam grinned at you. You nodded your head eagerly before turning to Colby who stood behind you both with a sheepish grin on his face. Your feet moved quickly to him and you wrapped your arms around him.
“It’s perfect, babe. I love it,” you muttered in his ear before pulling away to press your lips to his. After the kiss, you backed away so Sam could talk to him and as they spoke, you ran to Katrina.
“You did so good at decorating because I know Colby couldn’t do all this, so thank you Kat!” you said as you pulled away from her embrace.
“Yeah, he can’t decorate, but the idea was all his and it was honestly his best idea ever. You both are Star Wars nerds,” she teased to which you playfully shoved her away.
“Wait until you see the cake. Sam, come here!” Kat squealed before Sam and Colby turned their heads towards her and followed you two to the kitchen.
“Oh, I love it!” you awed at the decorated dessert. The bottom two layers were BB-8, and it had a baby Yoda on top. “It’s adorable!”
“Looks sick guys,” Sam added from behind you and Kat.
“You did amazing, Colby, with everything,” you praised the purple-haired love of yours as your eyes looked around the kitchen at all the decorations. Your lips met his quickly in a small thank you kiss as his arms slid behind your waist and clasped together at the small of your back.
“Yeah, thanks man,” Sam stated as he nodded at Colby, his arms wrapped around his own girlfriend, “and thank you too, baby.” As soon as the words left his lips, he pressed them to Katrina’s in a heartbeat.
“Well, isn’t it just a love fest in here,” Reggie joked when he entered to room, noticing how close and wrapped up the two couples were.
“Ewwww,” Jake dragged out the word when he caught sight of what his older brother was talking about.
“Oh, shut up, Jake. I’ve seen you and Tara and y’all can be plenty affectionate,” you scolded the childlike boy who showed you his dimpled smile.
“I’ve almost walked in on them being hella in love if you know what I mean,” Corey popped into the conversation, causing laughter to fill the room.
“Let’s get this party started!” Tara shouted when she walked in with a plastic kazoo placed between her plump lips before blowing into the instrument.
“Kazoos?” you asked Colby when you turned to face him.
“That was actually Kat’s idea,” he informed you before your eyes met hers.
“What? I thought it’d be fun,” she shrugged innocently as she giggled against Sam’s chest.
“You must’ve forgotten we’re friends with them,” you joked, pointing towards Tara, Jake, and Corey who were having a contest to see who the loudest kazoo player could be. Well, Jake and Corey were in each other’s faces playing loudly while Tara stood between them playing her own rendition of a Harry Styles song on her kazoo.
“Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea,” Kat admitted while she watched the competition go down across the counter.
“As long as they’re having fun, then what’s the harm,” you spoke as a chuckle fell past your glossed lips.
“I love you, you know that, right?” Colby whispered in your ear before your attention was turned back towards him. The corners of your lips turned upwards in a grin as you nodded at the boy.
“How could I not know that? Look around. Someone does not do all this for someone he kinda likes. You did it for two people you love, and we love you too. I love you so much, Colbs.” He could not resist kissing you again, the combination of love radiating between the two of you and with how well Cassie had dressed you making you completely irresistible in his sapphire eyes.
“Come upstairs. I want to show you what I got you,” he mumbled as he slipped his hand in yours and led you up the flight of stairs. “It’s on the bed.”
“Are you serious, Colby? Sam and I saw this earlier! Did he tell you I was in love with it?” you asked in shock when your eyes fell upon the baby Yoda plushie sitting between the dark pillows.
“No, I got this a while ago,” he told you when you picked up the soft stuffed toy, cradling it in your arms.
“This is perfect. All of it is perfect,” you muttered as tears brimmed your eyes at how happy you were in that very moment.
“You’re perfect,” Colby commented before pulling you closer to him. You dropped the plush toy on the bed as your arms found their place around his neck. Your lips connected once again that night since it seemed the two of you could not get enough of each other. The kiss deepened when you slipped your tongue in after tugging lightly at his hair.
“There’s a party going on downstairs just for you,” Colby reminded you before rejoining his lips with yours.
“I’m sure they won’t miss us for a little bit and anyway it’s Sam’s birthday too so they can celebrate him until we get back down there.”
“Sounds like a plan, princess.”

Hey! I don't know what kind of prompts you write but as I'm now officially a grumpy old woman, please could you write something about a grumpy Bobby? Thank you! x
Happy birthday friend!!! Have some grumpy Bobby, featuring Luke is an Insensitive Dumbass Sometimes, @latinposeidon ‘s JatP timeline that makes Luke a Pisces, and some angst you didn’t necessarily ask for. I hope you like it! This technically takes place in my All Too Well verse cause it vaguely references my Bobby tragic backstory, but you don’t have to have read that to understand this.
--
It takes Luke longer than he’s proud of to realize something’s up with Bobby.
In his defense, Luke’s been a little distracted lately. Tomorrow’s his seventeenth birthday—his first birthday since he left home—and it’s all he’s been able to talk about for weeks now: what he’s gonna do and what he’s gonna eat and (perhaps most importantly) what he’s gonna play (because Bobby is actually the coolest friend and rhythm guitarist ever and somehow managed to get Sunset Curve a gig at this awesome club down by the beach on Luke’s birthday and Luke almost kissed him he was so excited).
Luke’s pretty sure his friends are a little sick of him by now, or at the very least sick of how much he’s been talking about his birthday, but he just can’t stop, for all the same reasons why none of his bandmates verbally call him out on it: it’s his first birthday since he left home, his first birthday without his mom to make his favorite chocolate cake or his dad to gift him cassette tapes he thought Luke might like (meaning they’re terribly out of style), and if Luke doesn’t force himself to be excited about it every minute of every day until it’s over, he’s going to have a complete and total breakdown, so yeah, he’s not gonna shut up until the day after tomorrow, but he’s also not gonna cry, so his friends are just gonna have to deal with it.
(And actually, now that Luke thinks about it, that might be why Bobby got them this gig in the first place. Nothing can distract Luke from his problems like music can. So, yeah, reiterating: best friend and bandmate ever.)
But for now, Luke’s birthday and their next epic gig are still a day away, and Sunset Curve is supposed to be rehearsing, but mostly they’ve just been playing the same song on repeat for an hour because something isn’t working, and it takes Luke way too long to realize it’s Bobby.
“Bro, are you sure you’re tuned right? Something’s off.”
Bobby takes a little too long to react to Luke’s words, his fingers continuing to fumble on his guitar strings after the rest of them have all stopped playing. Finally, he looks up, and Luke is taken aback by how lifeless Bobby’s eyes look, bereft of any of their usual spark.
“Bobby?” Luke prompts when all Bobby does is blink at him. “Focus, dude. Rehearsal? Gig tomorrow? Any of this ringing a bell?”
Bobby scowls—that’s more like it—and tugs forcibly at the tuning pegs of his guitar, grumbling under his breath.
“Thank you,” Luke sighs, shooting Reggie and Alex an exasperated look. Neither of them return it, too busy frowning worriedly at Bobby, but Luke ignores that in favor of lifting his guitar again. “Come on, guys, once more from the top. Count us in, Alex.”
They barely make it through half the song, though, before Luke’s stopping them again, waving a hand and huffing in frustration.
“It’s not the music,” Reggie pipes up before Luke can say anything. “It’s the energy.”
Luke snaps his fingers. “Yes, thank you, Reg. That’s exactly what it is. Bobby! Where’s the energy, man? Wake up! What, do you need some coffee or something?”
“Yeah, or some new friends,” Bobby snaps, and before Luke has been sufficiently slapped in the face by that, Bobby’s got his guitar off and in its stand and he stomps out of the studio, slamming the door behind him with a resounding thud.
Luke, Alex, and Reggie all collectively flinch.
There are a few moments of awkward silence, and then Luke says, “I realize I may have been a bit mean there…”
“Yeah, man, you think?” Reggie says.
“Okay,” Alex sighs. “Go talk to him!”
“Yep, right, on it.” Luke abandons his own guitar and hurries out of the studio.
He doesn’t have to go far. Bobby’s sitting on the little rocky wall next to the driveway, legs hanging down, head in his hands. Luke thinks he might be crying. Or shaking. Luke pauses a few feet away, trying not to show how uncomfortable he feels, and says gently, “Bobby?”
Bobby slowly raises his head, regarding Luke with a dark but hard to read expression. Not crying, Luke’s relieved to see, but the hand that reaches up to shove Bobby’s hair out of his eyes is trembling just enough to be noticeable. Luke frowns, his stomach twisting in concern. He slowly approaches and hops up to sit on the wall next to him.
“Hey, Luke,” Bobby grunts, looking down at his shoes. “Sorry—for sucking today, and for snapping at you. I didn’t—” He shakes his head, frustrated. “I’m just having a weird day, man, I’m—”
“Grumpy?” Luke supplies.
Bobby glares at him, but there’s no heat to it, and a hint of a smirk tugs at his lips. “Tired,” he corrects, rubbing at his forehead with that same shaky hand.
Luke’s concern only grows. He scoots a little closer so that his hip just presses against Bobby’s. “Are you okay? Did you not sleep well last night?”
Bobby lets out a bitter chuckle. “Last night, the night before, have I ever slept well? All good questions. Answer’s always no.”
“Bobby,” Luke murmurs sympathetically. “I’m sorry, man.” He doesn’t know how he’s never noticed, in all his days spent hanging off of Bobby like an extra limb, or all his nights spent climbing through Bobby’s window when he can’t sleep (and really, how did Luke never wonder why Bobby always seemed so ready to meet him at the window, no matter what time it was, always looked so tired and yet wide awake whenever Luke needed him?). Luke feels stupid all of a sudden—stupid and selfish. He nudges his shoulder against Bobby’s, says, “And, hey, man, I’m sorry for being an asshole in there, I was just excited. But it was selfish, and I shouldn’t have been so hard on you.”
Bobby shakes his head, won’t look at him. “Not your fault. Gig tomorrow’s important, I know that.”
“Yeah, but it’s just a gig. There’ll be others. And I know we’re gonna rock it no matter what, so I really need to chill out. I just—you know how it is, man. Tomorrow’s my birthday and—”
“And today’s mine.”
Luke freezes, choking on whatever he’d been about to say next. He stares at Bobby, thinking maybe he misheard him, but Bobby’s got his head ducked toward his lap, and the tips of his ears are turning pink, and he doesn’t correct himself, just lets the words hang there in the air between them until Luke catches up enough to process them.
“Today is your—?” Luke finally sputters, but even just that one question he can’t complete.
“Yeah,” Bobby rasps. “I was held back a year? In middle school. So I’m eighteen. My eighteenth birthday… First one without—”
“Right,” Luke huffs, so that Bobby doesn’t have to say it. “Man, why didn’t you say anything? We could’ve—”
“What?” Bobby cuts him off, finally meeting Luke’s gaze. “We could’ve what, Luke? Celebrated? My parents aren’t even here to celebrate, man. They went to Maui for the weekend. On my eighteenth birthday. Without me.”
Luke winces. “Bobby, I’m—”
“Don’t apologize.” Bobby shakes his head, looks up at the sky for a moment and then back at Luke. “I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to take the attention off of you when you so clearly needed it.”
It takes Luke a second to realize Bobby’s messing with him. When it hits, he laughs, and bumps his shoulder against Bobby’s again, and then hops off the wall. “Come on, birthday boy! Let’s play through the song one more time, and then the guys and I will let you take a nap while we go pick up some cake!”
Bobby’s smile is fondly exasperated, and barely there, as he rolls his eyes and takes Luke’s proffered hand to help him off the wall, but at least it stays painted lightly on his face the whole rest of the day.

◤━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◥
Reggie drummed his fingers against his lap as he waited on the porch swing. You told him to wait outside while you got ready, but Reggie wasn’t too fond of the mosquitoes he had for company.
Finally, after about five bug bites later, you joined Reggie, hood up and covering your face.
Reggie turned to face you, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “You alright, Cookie?” he asked. He tried to pull down your hood, only for you to swat his hand away. “Okay, Cookie you’re scaring me now. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” you squeaked.
“That doesn’t seem like nothing, you won’t even show your face-”
You abruptly pulled down your hoodie, showing your face to Reggie. There wasn’t anything wrong, necessarily, but you had a full face of makeup. Reggie couldn’t help but smile. From shoulders up, you looked like a bride. But from the bottom down, you were just his Cookie.
“Nana wanted to practice makeup again,” you whined. “Something about “being the perfect bride,” Flicka what does that even mean?”
Reggie only stared back at you, completely enamored with your smile and sparkling eyes. It was as though he were in a daze, lost in your eyes. He wanted to marry you right there.
“Flicka?” you repeated. “Did you hear me? Do you have something to do with Nana’s oddball behavior lately?”
Reggie’s face turned red. Earl told Tamara his plan last week, and the old woman hadn’t been subtle in the slightest. She had even gone as far as to show you pictures of homes for sale near the area, claiming that the guest rooms “could be a nursery.” It took everything in Reggie to not stuff her face with scones.
“Honestly no idea,” Reggie lord. “Come on, we’ll stop and get some make up wipes on the way,”
“You’re a saint,” you grinned, pressing a kiss to Reggie’s lips and giggled when you saw the cherry red mark it left. “I think Nana might need some better lipstick,”
He looked at you confused and you took your hand and wiped away his bottom lip with your thumb.
“There that’s better. It smudged a bit,”
Reggie was completely googly eyed looking at you. That smile got him every single time.
He took your face in his hands and pressed a smacking kiss to your forehead.
“I love you Cookie, come on, let’s head out,”
Reggie led you to the car he had rented prior, opening the passenger door for you. You sent him a pointed look.
“Just because I look like a fairy tale book vomited over my face doesn’t mean you have to treat me like a princess,” you deadpanned. “I’m more than capable of opening the door by myself.”
Reggie chuckled, leaning against the door. “You’re right,” he agreed. “You should be treated like a queen, because you’re my queen.”
Rolling your eyes, you entered the car. “What’s with all the sappy comments, Flicka?” you asked as he made his way to his side of the car. “Not that I don’t like them, but I’m getting a whole bunch of comments for a person that looks like a living Barbie doll.”
Reggie only pressed a kiss to your cheek. “I’m just in a sappy mood today,” he shrugged his shoulders. “My apologies, your majesty. And besides, you don’t even look that bad. I think Tamara did a good job on your makeup.”
“You’re only saying that to stay on her good side.”
“You know me so well,” he teased. “Now, come on, let’s get going.”
The ride wasn’t too long, and to be perfectly honest you weren’t even sure where he was taking you. You didn’t even know if he knew the area well enough to drive anywhere without getting lost.
“Are you sure you’re going the right way,”
“Positive, you can’t miss it,” Reggie grinned when he hit the highway. He was grateful when you nodded, not asking any further questions.
Wordlessly, you turned on the radio. As you hummed along to the music, it wasn’t until you started singing when Reggie registered the lyrics and recognized the song.
“You got a fast car, I want a ticket to anywhere…”
Reggie turned his head to see you singing softly as you watched cars drive by. Reggie couldn’t help but smile as he drove towards an exit. As the song continued, he found his hand drop down to your knee, squeezing it tightly. He hadn’t heard your singing voice in so long, he forgot what it sounded like. But as soon as you started singing, it all felt familiar to him again. Every word, every dance in your bedroom at night, every memory.
Your voice was beautiful in his opinion. Angelic, even. Reggie recalled sleepovers in your room when you’d sing along to whatever was playing on the radio. Even when Reggie was too shy to sing or dance, you always pulled him out of his shell. Funny how now, things were the opposite.
“You know,” Reggie mused. “I’m still holding you to it.”
You stopped singing, turning your head in confusion. “Hold me to what?”
Reggie smiled knowingly. “Hold you to singing at one of our gigs,” he explained.
“When did I say I’d do that?” you asked curiously. “Was I drunk? If I was drunk it doesn’t count,” you said adamantly.
“Nope you were 100% sober,” Reggie chuckled. “Come on Cookie, you’ve got such a gorgeous voice, and it would be so much fun,”
“Mm, I don’t think so,” you said stubbornly. “If anything, I’m average. You’re the musician in this relationship.”
Reggie glanced over at you once the car rolled to a stop at the stoplight. “I think you’re amazing at everything you do, Cookie.”
Rolling your eyes, you took his hand off your knee and kissed it gently. “I think there’s a little bias in that statement, Flicka. You’re just required to say that because you sleep next to me each night.”
Reggie laughed. “While that may be true,” he admitted truthfully. “And I definitely don’t want to be murdered in my sleep by the girl I love most in my life...” You snorted, shoving Reggie to hide the blush on your cheeks. “I do think you have a whole bunch of talent, no bias.”
“Definitely biased,” you shot back in a sing-songy tone.
“You’re a dork, Cookie,” he laughed, turning down a street.
Rolling your eyes, you looked out the window. “Where are we going, anyway?”
“If I tell you, it would ruin the surprise,” he told you. “We’re almost there anyway, so just wait.”
Reggie kept driving until he hit another exit, driving through the valley all the way until you saw the brightly coloured lights accompanied by jolly music.
“No way!” you grinned. “How did you know this was happening?!”
“Little birdie told me,” he grinned.
“My dad?”
“Yeah your dad,” he nodded.
As soon as Reggie parked on the side of the road, you grabbed his face, peppering kisses all over him. “Have I told you how much I loved you, Flicka?” you asked giddily.
“Yes, but I don’t get tired of hearing it,” he grinned, “Come on let’s go,”
You nodded and opened the car doors, leaving the vehicle and heading excitedly to the fair.
“We should go on all the rides first,” you quickly said, “And then stop by all the food stands,”
“Oh my God Cookie, you’re going to die of a heart attack before we get home,” Reggie told you. “I kind of don’t want to be murdered by your grandparents.”
“Only acceptable way to go, doing what I love,”
“Eating fried food?”
“Yep, and dippin dots,” You nodded, swinging your intertwined hands.
Reggie shook his head, a small smile on his face. “What am I going to do with you,” he murmured.
“Join me in my fried food bliss?” you suggested.
“You know, what maybe I will, can’t kill me if I’m already dead,” he joked and held out his hand for you to take. “Where too first Cookie, you’re the boss,”
“Maybe the ferris wheel, make it like old times?”
Without answering, Reggie quickly pulled you to the line, wrapping his arms around you from behind and pressing a kiss to your cheek.
“Can we stay like this forever?” you asked.
“I really hope so,” Reggie smiled.
You got lucky and the line moved up quickly and you slid into the seats, placing the safety bar in front of you while the ride whirred up to a start.
“Still afraid of heights, Flicka?” you teased as the ferris wheel began to turn.
Reggie’s face was slightly pale as his hand gripped yours tightly. “Never,” he answered, his voice slightly shaking.
“It’s okay, Flicka,” you laughed. “I’ve got you, knight in shining armor right?”
He nervously laughed, making the mistake of looking down and curled in tighter to you.
Once you reached the top of the ferris wheel, you nudged Reggie’s side. “We’re at the top,” you whispered. “You can open your eyes now.”
Hesitantly, Reggie opened his eyes. From that height, he could see the entire city. “Wow, Penticton is tiny!”
“I know,” you chuckled. “But it’s kind of nice. Easier to know someone in a town than a big city,”
“Here I have a question for you,” he said, turning to look at you and trying to ignore the great height. “If you could live anywhere, in North America,” he said, knowing your answer would be Vienna if he involved the whole world. “Where would it be?”
“I think LA,” you nodded. “Everyone’s there. Well aside from mom and dad, but as much as I love it here and will never get tired of this view, I think LA would be my place to settle,”
Reggie smiled, squeezing your hand affectionately. “I’m glad.” You raised an eyebrow, making Reggie cough awkwardly. “I mean, I’m glad that you think that because I think that, too.”
“What, you don’t want to go back to Wyoming?”
“Not if you’re gonna be in LA, maybe as a retirement plan,” he admitted. “I’ll always want those 30 horses,”
“Maybe we could have a farm one day,” you suggested. “We could name it Flicka’s ranch,”
Reggie chuckled. “Flicka and Cookie’s ranch,” he corrected. “We’re running it together.”
You raised his hand to your lips, kissing it softly. “Of course, Flicka.”
You two stayed in silence, taking in the scenery until your gondola reached the ground. Thanking the ferris wheel operator, you quickly pulled Reggie to the game stands.
“Play a game, sonny,” an older man called over to Reggie. “Want to win a bear for your girlfriend?”
Reggie’s face turned red. “Oh, um we’re not-”
You pressed a kiss to Reggie’s cheek. “I think we’re to a point where we can finally put a label on us,” you winked.
Reggie smiled down at you. “Well, girlfriend, he began teasingly. “Would you like a bear?”
You hummed in thought. “If you get me a horse plushy, I’ll be yours forever,” you replied.
Nodding, Reggie paid for the bean bags, preparing to throw them at the cans. His heart was beating out of his chest. It was no big deal, only his relationship on the line, right?
“Flicka, you look so pale, why are you nervous,” you chuckled, taking his hand in yours and pressing a soft kiss to his lips. “You’ll do fine, I love you,”
That was all the assurance Reggie needed to chuck the bean bag, straight into the pile of cans, sending them tumbling down.
He beamed and so did you while the game operator took the horse plushie from the rack and handed it to you.
“For the lovely lady,”
“Thank you,” you grinned. “See Reggie you did-,”
Dangling around the horse’s neck was a necklace, your horseshoe necklace that you had given to Reggie before leaving to Canada. And linked on the silver chain was a small ring, a perfect fit for your finger, you could tell just by looking. It took you a moment, but your eyes finally managed to break their gaze and went to look at Reggie, only to be met with an empty space. You frowned and looked down to see Reggie, kneeling on one knee in front of you.
“Well, um, you willing to keep that promise, Cookie?” he asked.
Your hand flew to your mouth and you took a step back, tears flooding your eyes.
“Shut up,” you whispered. “Flicka, shut up.”
Reggie chuckled at your reaction. “Not exactly the reaction I was expecting,” he joked, making your face turn red. Reggie wiped his hands on his jeans. “Cookie, I-I don’t want to wait for the universe to bring us together, I’m tired of pushing you away. I want to do anything and everything in my power to make you the happiest person alive, because that’s all that matters. I’d give up the entire world for you and wherever you need to be I’m going to be right there with you, I don’t care if it’s Penticton, LA, or some random town in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, as long as I’m with you. Cookie, I-I-I-,” Reggie’s voice cracked and you shook your head, telling him he didn’t need to go on, throwing your arms around his neck and pressing a firm kiss to his lips.
“Yes, yes, yes,” you cried once you pulled away. “We’ve had one hell of a life, Flicka. We’ve had too much sadness to last a lifetime. I’m ready Flicka, no more waiting, no more doubt.”
Reggie stood up, pulling you into yet another kiss while spinning you around. He beamed at you, tears streaming down his cheeks as his green eyes sparkled with complete adoration.
“Oh my God we have to tell my parents! Your parents! My grandparents! The guys and Rose!”
“Woah, woah, calm down Cookie,” Reggie laughed. “And I totally agree we should tell the family, but I think you should probably put the ring on, first.”
“Oh my God, yes!” you exclaimed, taking the ring off your necklace and placing it on your ring finger.
“Also, I don’t know about you, but I think after all the lies from the gang, maybe we should have some fun with them too,”
“Flicka I like the way you think,” you grinned mischievously. “See, that’s why I said yes.”
Reggie raised an eyebrow. “Not because you love me?” he asked, feigning hurt.
“Mm, that too, I guess,” you teased. “Okay, now what do you say we just grab a bunch of food and get out of here?”
“And spend the rest of the night with my future wife? Sign me up,” he grinned.
Damn you liked the sound of that.
The ride back home was a blur. You were incredibly giddy, arms full of candy and fried food. You couldn’t stop looking down at your ring, sparkling in the moonlight.
You were engaged. To your childhood best friend, the boy you loved most in your life. For once, everything felt right, and all your worries slowly melted away. All because of Reggie, and you were grateful for that.
When you opened the door to your grandparents home you saw everyone sitting anxiously in the living room, probably already aware of the situation.
“Hey guys,” you greeted awkwardly, trying to slowly ease the topic in.
Tamara stood up abruptly. “Oh, none of that nonsense,” she cut in. “Show me the ring!”
Without letting you take a moment to set your things down, your grandmother grabbed your hand and examined the ring, readjusting her glasses to look closely.
“Nana!” you exclaimed. “Careful!”
“So it’s official?” Eloise asked curiously, standing up from her seat.
“Pretty darn official,” Reggie grinned. “We’re getting married!”
Eloise’s hand flew to her mouth as she tried to hide a few tears of joy. Mateo and Earl both came to give Reggie a pat on the back, now he was one of them and they wished him good luck on that. Being married to a Brandanowitz was no walk in the park.
“I made a special batch of scones just for you guys,” Tamara smiled. “I’ll go grab them, fresh out of the oven,”
“Reggie should you call your parents?” Mateo suggested. “Tell them the good news?”
“Actually yeah,” Reggie nodded. “(N/N) do you want to come? I’m sure they would love to talk to you,”
“Sure, it’s been a while,” you nodded, “Guess Darcy was right after all,”
You gave your mother your things before taking Reggie’s hand and guiding him to downstairs to where the telephone was. Reggie quickly took the phone off the hook, dialing his parents’ number.
“Hello?” a voice finally picked up.
“Hi Mom, Dad,” Reggie greeted with a soft smile. “I, um, wanted to tell you-”
You took the phone from him. “We’re engaged!” you exclaimed into the speaker.
You could hear Diana squeal excitedly. “Oh, honey, I’m so happy for you!” she told you. “Tell me all the details, I want to hear it all.”
Setting yourself down on the sofa, you giddily spilled all the details of your night to Reggie’s mother. The grin on your face made Reggie’s heart do a flip. You were absolutely perfect to Reggie. You’d fit in perfectly in his family, he knew it.
As you continued to talk to Reggie’s parents, your hand found Reggie’s on his lap. Squeezing it tightly, you flashed him a grin.
“I love you,” you mouthed to him before continuing your conversation.
Reggie kissed the corner of your mouth. “I love you, too.”
“Well (Y/N), what did I tell you, it was a when after all,”
“Yeah you were right Darcy,” you chuckled. “And I couldn’t be happier that you were, really. I’m so excited to be a part of your family,”
“And we’re happy to have you in it,” Diana assured you. “You’ve always been like a daughter to us (N/N), and you’ve always been there for Reggie so we couldn’t imagine a better pairing,”
“Thank you,” you said into the phone. “I’m glad to have Reggie in my life. You raised an incredible son, Diana, Dacy.”
Reggie playfully rolled his eyes, leaning his head on your shoulder. “She’s only saying that because she’s on the engagement high,” he joked.
“That’s not even a real term, Flicka,” you shot back. “It’s true. You’re an amazing son and boyfriend. Or should I say fiance?”
“Neither,” he murmured into your neck. “Husband sounds much better, Cookie.”
You flicked his forehead. “We have months of planning first, Flicka. Then I can call you husband all you want, okay?”
Reggie pecked your lips, smiling up at you. “Perfect.”
You heard Diana and Darcy laugh on the other end. “Well, we won’t keep you love birds for too long,” Darcy said. “Have a good night you two.”
“Goodnight,” you chirped back before putting the phone back on the ringer. You let out a deep sigh, falling onto Reggie’s chest as you pushed him down on the couch. “We’re engaged,” you sang into his shirt.
Reggie laughed, placing his hands on your waist. “We are,” he said back.
“You know what that means, right?” Reggie let out a hum in response as you grinned. “I think that means we should get an upgrade on our nicknames.”
Reggie raised an eyebrow. “You don’t like Cookie?”
“Oh no I love it,” you reassured him. “But I think that once we get married, a little change is in order.”
Reggie drummed his fingers against your waist, making you giggle at the ticklish sensation. “Okay then, Cookie, shoot.”
You hummed in thought, biting your lip as you thought. “Well I didn’t think I’d get this far,” you confessed truthfully. “But, I think those cute couple names are nice. Darling, love, Mrs. Peters.”
Reggie sent you a small smile, pressing a kiss to your lips. “Okay, darling,” he kissed you once more. “Love,” and then another kiss. “Mrs. Peters.”
Before you could even process it, you found yourself pushed against the couch as Reggie pressed dozens of kisses all over your face. “Flicka, stop!” you shrieked. “It tickles!”
“Never,” he pressed a kiss to your nose and you squealed.
“Reggie seriously, if you stop I’ll move back to LA with you,”
“W-Wait what?”
That got his attention.
“Well I’d do it even if you didn’t stop. I-I want to go back and if we’re getting married I think there’s no better reason,”
Reggie sat up, you following him. “Really?” he asked. “I thought you wanted to stay here? I-if the reason why you want to go to LA is for me, don’t. I’m willing to stay here and settle down, get a job, buy a cookie factory-”
“A what?” you questioned. You rolled your eyes at Reggie’s flustered expression and decided to continue. “Reggie, I’m not going to force you to stay here and forget everything you love back in California, that’s asking too much of you. Besides,” you cupped the side of his face affectionately. “I want to go home, too. I miss them a lot.”
“We can move into my place, and then look for something a bit bigger, the band’s coming into some money soon,” Reggie explained.
“A house by the beach?” you suggested. “With a nice garden and not that crappy balcony we had in our other apartment?”
Reggie scrunched up his nose. “I happened to like that balcony, Cookie.”
“Fine, a nice house by the beach with a garden and a crappy balcony,” you said sarcastically.
“With many bedrooms,” Reggie added. “For our kids, some day.”
“Four,” you grinned. “So the boys don’t have to argue about who’s going to be the godfather.”
Reggie kissed the top of your head. “And a guest room, for when our parents visit.”
“And a music room?” you asked.
“Of course, Cookie,” he reassured you.
You couldn’t help but smile as you leaned forward, your forehead resting against his. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Reggie weaved your hands together. “Me too, Cookie,” he whispered. “Me too.”
“(Y/N) come on please just try it on,” Rose begged.
“I move back and I’m barely here a week and you’re already forcing me into your potential wedding dress,” you rolled your eyes. “Why am I not surprised,”
Rose shoved the dress into your hands, pushing you towards the dressing room. “Go on, the boys will be the judge, right?” she asked.
“Yeah, yeah,” the guys muttered, far more focused on the free alcohol.
“Hey!” Rose snapped her fingers, making the boys jump in surprise. “This is my special day, so if I turn out looking like the cake instead of a bride, I will end all of you.”
Bobby whined as he leaned against Luke’s shoulder. “I didn’t expect this plan to go for so long,” he muttered, making Luke shush him.
“I’m ready!” you called from the dressing room.
Rose squealed excitedly. “Well, come out!” she yelled back. “We’re all dying to see!”
Sighing dramatically, you pushed the door open, walking towards the center of the room.
“Cariña,” Rose gushed. “You look like a princess straight from the fairy tales!” She glanced over at the boys, all of them murmuring in response. “Guys!”
“You look amazing, (N/N),” Alex told you kindly. Ray wordlessly agreed.
“Like a royal bride!” Luke added.
Everyone turned to Bobby, who was drinking the last of the champagne. “Hot,” was all he said as he downed the drink. Alex, Luke, Reggie, and Ray all slapped him upside the head for that.
Rose rolled her eyes. “Why don’t we see what Reggie thinks?” she suggested, looking over at the black haired bassist, who was staring down at the ground.
“Yeah Flicka, what do you think?” you asked, twirling in the floor length gown.
“Eh I don’t think it’s a good idea, it’s bad luck to see the bride in her dress before the wedding,” he shook his head.
“THE WHAT?!” everyone exclaimed.
Luke’s drink flew out of his hand, Ray had to catch Rose when she almost fainted and Bobby and Alex’s jaw’s were practically on the floor.
“Can you repeat that?” Alex asked, eyes widened in shock. “I think I must be hearing things.”
Luke nodded repeatedly. “Yeah, because I could have sworn Reggie said wedding,” he agreed.
“Then I must be having hearing problems, too,” Bobby muttered. “Or maybe it’s the alcohol. What did they put in this?”
“Definitely the green fairy drink,” Alex said, pushing his champagne flute away.
“Okay, first off why would they serve absinthe at a bridal shop?” you frowned, walking back to the dressing room to take off the wedding dress.
“Maybe so they spend a shit ton of money on these dresses,” Reggie nodded and the gang just stared at them.
“You’re seriously NOT gonna comment on that?!” Ray asked. “Ay dios mio, pasa el champán-” He leaned against the wall, fanning himself before reaching for his Rosary.
“Come on you guys give us something!” Luke exclaimed. “Bunny I’m your mom,”
“Okay but first, what’s with this fake wedding?” Reggie commented. “I knew something was off from the beginning but you guys really dragged this out,”
¨Because we were trying to get you all buttered up and drowned in marriage fever!” Rose whined. “But you guys were engaged all along?”
You finally emerged from the dressing room, wedding dress hanging on the door. “Not all along,” you answered, setting yourself down on the couch next to Reggie, swinging your legs over his. “Just in Canada.”
“And you didn’t think to give your friends a call?” Luke asked, pouting. “We’re the ones that have been rooting for you all this time.”
Reggie shot him a look. “To be frank, you guys were the ones that made this stupid plan.”
“We just decided to play along to see how high your patience levels were,” you added, wrapping your arms around Reggie’s neck.
“I told you it was stupid,” Bobby sang in a low voice.
“Shut up Bobby, you came up with the wedding dress bit,” Alex shot back.
“It was a genius plan that came with free champagne!” he exclaimed, gesturing to the flute in his hand.
“Bobby you really need to go to some AA meetings,” Ray sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“You all,” he pointed to everyone. “Can suck my-,”
“Okay! So you’re all invited to the wedding!” you interjected before turning to Rose. “Be my maid of honor?”
Rose squealed. “Yes!” she answered giddily. “We can just take all your notes from when we were planning my fake wedding. It’s going to be the wedding of the century, I’m telling you.”
“The wedding of the century on a college student budget,” Reggie mused. “I’d love to see that.”
“If you think we’re doing this on just our budget you’re sorely mistaken,” Luke said and you raised a brow.
“Yeah how are my unemployed parents going to pay for this?” you asked.
“Reggie, your mom is a freaking lawyer,” Luke exclaimed. “I’m sure you could ask for some cash, and (N/N) your grandparents are decently well off and my parents can pitch in cause they’re not gonna get a wedding out of me anytime soon,”
“Guys we don’t want a big thing,” Reggie explained. “Just something by the lake maybe? At night and just close friends and family.”
Rose frowned, crossing her arms on her chest. “You’ll still wear the wedding dress, right?” she asked you. She rolled her eyes at your uncertain face. “Come on, (N/N) this is your moment to shine. I don’t want you to look back and regret not wearing one!”
“Maybe not that dress,” you said, cringing at the layers of tulle. “We’ll figure something out,”
“And you bet I’m helping you,” Rose told you firmly.
“Of course,” you nodded. “Now let’s just hope life doesn’t throw us another shit show,”
“Oh my God, I’m totally freaking out! Does anyone have a paper bag? I need a paper bag! Guys!”
“Rose calm down!” you exclaimed. “It’s my freaking wedding day and you’re the one having a melt down,”
“But what if-,”
“Don’t you even dare Rose. Don’t. You. Dare.” you warned and she quieted while you straightened out your sleek white dress.
“Kind of ironic, the person who was pushing you together this entire time being the one breaking down,” Luke chuckled, taking a sip of wine.
“Shut up Patterson, you were crying in the bathroom for like 45 minutes. I'm not the only person having a crisis,” Rose shot back, finally finding a paper bag in the back of her car.
Luke’s face turned red as he moved closer to you, only for you to jerk back. “Mm, no you don’t,” you told him, keeping a distance away. “I know how you get when you’re emotional and tispy. Stay away from the dress, mom. We don’t need any abstract painting on my shoulder.”
Luke sighed dramatically. “You wound me, Lady Bunny.”
“It’s going to be Lady Peters any minute now,” Alex announced, approaching you. He looked down at you, grinning. “You look amazing, (N/N). Reggie’s going to love it.”
You smiled, going on the tippy toes to kiss Alex’s cheek. “Thanks, Alex,” you said. “I’m glad somebody has their head on straight.”
“Yeah you might not wanna go see Bobby then,” he said, sucking air through his teeth.
You winced. “Please tell me he hasn’t found the wine yet.”
“He brought his own.”
Rolling your eyes, you pinched the bridge of your nose. “Dammit,” you groaned. “Just make sure he makes it to the vows, okay?”
Alex saluted to you. “Of course, (N/N).”
“I’m really starting to second guess singing at the reception, that’s got me more nervous than getting married,”
Luke shook his head at you, setting his glass down. “Really?” he asked. “You’re not scared the groom might up and run at the last minute?”
“Ha ha,” you deadpanned. “I know Reggie, he wouldn’t-”
“Guys we can’t find Reggie,” Ray came running in. Rose let out a cry, starting to hyperventilate into the paper bag.
“I swear to fucking God this better be a joke!” you yelled, pushing everyone out of the way. “Reginald Peters, when I find you I’m going to murder you!”
Alex ran, close behind you. “(N/N), I love you and wholeheartedly agree, but I think in order to have a wedding you should have a groom-”
“Get out of here with your technicalities!” you snapped. “Just because you’re accurate doesn’t mean you’re interesting!” Alex let out a squeak in response, but remained silent. You pulled your hair in frustration. “I’m supposed to get married! And my future husband isn’t even here! I think I have the right to freak out!”
“I’m here! I’m here!” you heard a quick call and you looked up seeing Reggie running in your direction, dressed in his suit and tie, waving something in the air.
“Reggie the dress!” Rose screeched from behind you. Instantly, Reggie covered his eyes with the hand that wasn’t holding the box.
“Reginald Darcy Peters!” you yelled, marching up to him and promptly slapping him across the face. “Don’t you dare pull that kind of shit with me,” you warned. “Thin fucking ice Flicka,”
“I’m gonna pretend that didn’t just happen,” Reggie groaned, rubbing where you had slapped him. “I needed to get the ring from the shop. You want to get married without a ring?”
“But Alex has the rings,” you said with a frown. “Don’t you?”
Alex’s eyes widened before patting down his suit pocket, sighing in relief. “Yes, it’s here,” he informed you.
“I know,” Reggie sighed. “But this ring is different. Just trust me, okay?”
You scowled, crossing your arms on your chest. “As long as you don’t run off again. Pull that shit one more time and I’m calling Nana to bring the scones.”
Reggie paled. “Of course, darling,” he reassured you cheekily.
“That’s Mrs. Peters to you,” you flicked him.
“Okay, let’s get this guy out of here,” Alex said, dragging Reggie away.
You laughed breathlessly as Reggie almost tripped over a rock, eyes still closed.
“Of all the boys in this band you had to choose that one?” Rose asked, walking behind you. The paper bag was still in her hands.
You simply shrugged your shoulders. “He’s the one for me,” you laughed softly. “My Flicka.”
“Your stupid Flicka,” Rose shook her head. “Now come on, you. You have an aisle to walk and people to wow.”
You were pushed towards the area in front of the lake, where the ceremony was to be held. At that point, everyone had walked down the aisle. Alex’s little sisters as the flower girls, Bobby, Luke, and Alex, Rose and Ray, and yours and Reggie’s family members. Well, Tamara more so strutted with Earl by her side.
“Ready, sweetheart?” you heard your dad ask you.
You grinned up at your dad, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “As I’ll ever be.”
Tears began to pool in Mateo’s eyes as he tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear. “You’ve grown so much,” he told you, his voice cracking. “It feels just like yesterday when I first held you in my arms. Now you’re getting married?”
“Time really does fly, huh?” you said back, reaching up to wipe away his tears. “I’m still your little girl, I promise.”
“I know,” he sighed, still smiling. “Just, remember to call from time to time, okay?”
“Of course, Dad,” you laughed. “Every minute of every day if I have to.”
“Lord knows how high your phone bills will be,” Mateo shook his head with a light laugh. “Let’s go?”
Nodding, you took your dad’s arm as you walked down the aisle. You couldn’t help but grin so hard that your cheeks ached. Everyone turned around to see you, gushing quietly. But your eyes were only on Reggie’s.
He stood at the center of the altar, his cheeks already tearstained. No matter how often he wiped his eyes, the tears kept flowing. He couldn’t help it. You were beautiful, angelic even. Your smile and laugh made him feel just as Ray said all those months ago. Like everything was right in the world. It was only just him and his Cookie, his darling, his love. And that was all that mattered. That you were his.
You finally reached up to him, your bouquet held tightly in your hands. “Hi Flicka,” you said in a quiet voice.
“You look even more gorgeous than I had ever imagined,” he whispered to you, completely in awe.
“Cheesy dork,” you shot back. “You don’t look too bad yourself.”
“I’m your cheesy dork,” he said before turning to your dad. “Sir,” he greeted, cheeks reddened.
Mateo only smiled at the two of you talking. He knew Reggie was the one for you. “What did I say about calling me that?” he asked in a playfully stern voice. “Keep her safe, okay? And love her every day of your life.”
“I promise,” Reggie reassured him.
Mateo patted Reggie’s shoulder. “I wouldn’t want anyone else for my daughter to spend the rest of her life with,” he told him before formally passing you on to Reggie. Turning back around, you quickly mouthed “I love you” to your dad before taking Reggie’s arm.
The two of you turned back to where the officator was, only to see Bobby holding the minister’s book in his hand. “Hey, dorks,” he greeted with a snort.
You raised an eyebrow. “Reggie, I thought you called to get um...an actual minister.”
“I did,” he whispered back. “I just saw him like, a second ago. Where did he go-”
“We’re gathered here today to celebrate these fuckers finally getting it on,” Bobby continued, pretending to read from the book. “It took some time but damn they’re finally together. (N/N)’s Canadian, Reggie’s from Wyoming, everything’s a fucking lie but their love is real, so it works out-”
“Young man, leave the altar immediately!” a voice yelled. Everyone turned to see a much older man shooing Bobby away. The minister took the book, opening it and sighing. “I’m sorry, where were we?”
“Just about to marry the love of my life,” Reggie grinned.
“Yes of course,” the minister nodded and opened his book, starting to officiate the ceremony. Many tears were shed, mostly from Luke, almost all from Luke, and finally it came time where you and Reggie could take the lead.
“I believe the happy couple have prepared individual vows?”
You and Reggie both nodded, holding each other’s hands tightly and only looking into each other’s eyes.
Reggie went first,
“Cookie, we’ve had --to be honest-- a shit hand given to us. But despite all of the things thrown in our path, obstacles that forced us to stay apart, you continued to put your faith in the universe. That optimism, that complete faith in something you can’t see or feel, I admire that. Even as kids, I knew that you were exactly the kind of girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I promise that I will protect you with my life, and shower you with a million compliments and kisses every day, just to hear that laugh of yours that you hate so much. I promise to cherish every second of our lives together like my life depends on it, but if I’m being honest, if I didn’t have you in my life, I wouldn’t be living. You’ve brought a whole new world to me, and I swear to you I will never let you go.”
You fought back the urge to just kiss him right there and instead fought back your happy tears while you tried to deliver your vows, only to be interrupted before starting by Alex who nudged a tissue box near you making you and the rest of the group chuckle while you quickly dabbed away your tears and took a deep breath.
“I- I love you so much, Flicka. You are the love of my life, my partner, my best friend, and I could never find anyone as brilliant as you. I promise to love you with everything in me, despite the obstacles life throws at us. I want to wake up every morning with you by my side, laugh with you by my side, even cry with you by my side… I mean let’s be honest that last one happens more often than not,” that earned a chuckle from the boys and Rose especially. “Because let’s face it, everything in this world is always better with you, by my side. I promise you, that I will love you unconditionally throughout our lives, through every adventure, and throughout every hardship. I love you for you.”
“JUST KISS ALREADY!” Luke yelled from the side and everyone burst into laughter while the minister shook his head,
“Why did you even bother with me?” the minister asked and you and Reggie apologized. “It seems as if the most popular opinion would be to get this over with so the rings?”
Alex passed Reggie the new ring from earlier and Rose passed you the one you and Reggie had picked out.
Reggie pulled out the ring and you gasped quietly looking at the stunning ring.
“Oh my God Reggie how did you afford that?” you whispered as he slipped the ring on your finger.
“It’s passed down in the family,” Reggie explained. “My mom and dad wanted me to give it to you,”
You looked over at Darcy and Diana, mouthing thank you and slipping Reggie’s ring on his finger.
“By the power vested in me by the State of California I now pronounce you husband and wife-,”
“You may now kiss the bride!” the boys yelled and the minister threw his hands up in the air and nodded.
“Go ahead, kiss her,”
You and Reggie were both grinning like idiots while he pulled you into his arms, pressing a full kiss to your lips while your guests cheered loudly.
“Now food?” Reggie asked and you rolled your eyes.
“Yeah I guess, Mr. Peters,” you sighed and he grinned.
“Why thank you Mrs. Peters,” he kissed you once more and everyone whooped and hollered again.
Damn, (Y/N) Peters, you liked the sound of that.
“No guys I don’t want to,” you whined, trying to run away from the microphones.
“Cookie you promised,” Reggie pouted.
“Yes get your ass up on that makeshift stage right now (Y/N), or I swear to God I’m pulling out the rosary-,”
“Okay! Okay! I’ll do it, just leave the rosary out of this!” you begged and hopped up onto the stage with Reggie’s help.
He handed you a microphone and you bit your lip looking at him as if you were asking if you were really going to do this.
“Embrace your awesomeness Cookie, you’ve got this,” he grinned. “And don’t worry all the guys and even Rose are backing us up,”
“Even Ray?”
“We put him on tambourine,” Reggie nodded and you let out a small laugh.
“Ladies and gents can I have your attention please,” Luke called out and your guests all turned to the front. “The bride and groom would like to share a special song with you, accompanied by Sunset Curve,”
“And company!” Rose added and there were small chuckles heard through the area.
“You ready Cookie?”
“No, but hit it,” you nodded and Reggie looked at his band mates, counting them in and singing,
“I don’t give a damn about the way you touch me when we’re alone. You can hold my hand if no one’s home. Do you like it when I’m away? If I wasn’t here in my body baby would you love me the same?”
You were hesitant at first, only adding in your harmonies quietly while Reggie took the lead as planned. Then the chorus came, and not only were you joined by Reggie, but Bobby, Luke, Alex and Rose.
“Oh baby I am a wreck when I’m without you. I need you here to stay.”
Reggie winked at you, taking your hand in his and squeezing it. You swayed together, quietly singing along until the second verse came. Again your voice went quiet, but Reggie turned your face to his and you locked eyes, giving you the push to raise your volume and get into it,
“Oh, oh, oh, oh and I know that you know listen close and move slow I can't speak fast or else I'll crack. It's the price I pay for going back and I've dreamed to be seen now I've got it, do I want it?”
Rose was looking over at you with the proudest face you’d seen since you had given her the news of the engagement. There wouldn’t be any death by rosary today.
As soon as the song ended, you were met with a deafening applause, but none of that mattered to you. Reggie passed his microphone over to Ray before cupping your face with his hands and kissing you softly.
“I knew you could do it,” he joked, pulling away.
“Shut up,” you laughed quietly. “I didn’t mind singing, now that I think about it. It was fun.”
Reggie raised an eyebrow teasingly. “Does that mean you’ll be joining our band-”
“Don’t even think about it, Peters,” you shot back.
“Of course, Mrs. Peters,” he told you with a smile. “Man, I’ll never get tired of saying that.”
“Good,” you grinned. “Because I’ll never get tired of hearing it.”
After the rush of wedding planning, it felt incredibly refreshing to finally relax. No more planning who’s sitting where or writing up a “family friendly” setlist, it was just you and Reggie.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
“Unlike anything I could have ever imagined.”
You ripped your eyes away from the beautiful buildings to smile at your husband. Reggie stood by your side, staring up at the scenery.
“Does this top Wyoming, Flicka?” you teased.
Reggie rolled his eyes, taking your hand in his and kissed it softly. “Anywhere is Wyoming when I’m with you, Cookie.”
You made a sour face. “Are you calling me Wyoming, Flicka?” you asked.
“I thought it was more romantic in my head,” he shrugged his shoulders. “But what did I say, this place waited for you didn’t it?”
“It really did,” you smiled. “And I hate it when you’re right,” you leaned your head on his shoulder, looking back out at the city again, admiring the opera houses and ancient architecture of a once prosperous empire.
Silence filled the air, aside from the occasional passersby. Reggie sighed, kissing the top of your head.
“You know,” he mused. “I hope to bring our kids here one day. You know, see the place their mother loves more than anything in the world?”
You bit your lip to hold back your grin. “Really?” you said in response.
Reggie hummed. “Well, this place makes you happy, right?” he asked you. “I’d like to show our kids around here. Share a piece of our story with them, too. Our adventures, all of it.”
“No problemo my dude, already done,”
“E-Excuse me?” Reggie coughed, turning his body to fully face you.
You couldn’t hold back your smile any longer. “I found out a couple of weeks ago,” you told him honestly. “I thought it would be best to tell you here.”
Reggie looked down at your stomach, his hands gently grazing your shirt. “T-there’s-” he stammered. “Our baby’s in there? As in, yours and my child?”
“No, Alex is the father,” you deadpanned. “Or wait no is it Bobby? Or Ray? Or maybe-”
Reggie cut you off, pulling you into a deep kiss. As soon as he pulled away, you looked into his eyes. They were filled with tears, and his smile was incredibly wide.
“You’re pregnant,” he whispered. “Oh my God, you're pregnant! I can’t breathe, I-”
You grabbed his shoulders. “Are you okay?” you asked, concern starting to seep in.
Reggie swallowed loudly. “Of course, I’m just-” he took a deep breath. “We’re going to be parents. I’m going to be a dad!”
“Hey you don’t know that,” you teased. “I never told you who the father is.”
“Shut up, Cookie,” he laughed, kissing you once more. “You’re carrying my little chocolate chip,”
Giggling, you shook your head. “You’re ridiculous when it comes to making up names.”
“Then our entire family will have to deal with them,” Reggie insisted. “All four kids, when the time comes.”
“Lord, I pray for them when they have to go to school,” you laughed.
You and Reggie sat down on a park bench. His hand immediately found its place on your stomach. There wasn’t any bump, but Reggie didn’t care. His child was there. His little chocolate chip.
The chocolate chip to his Cookie. He liked that. He liked that a lot.

It was actually quite fortunate that Julie’s phone rang in the middle of practice.
The ringtone put a halt to Alex’s drum beat and Reggie’s baseline, the band in the middle of a song when the device began vibrating atop Julie’s music stand perched before her piano. The air quickly grew quiet, three pairs of eyes falling onto Julie as they waited for her to silence her phone, to apologise and get back into the song. They had a strict ‘Do Not Disturb’ policy on band time, one put in place mainly because Flynn had a habit of turning up out of the blue and derailing practice with antics.
“Well?” Luke said after four rings, Julie looking over and registering the name as the ringtone continued to blare out. The look on the guitarist’s face was one shared by her other band mates: they were mid-practice, they had a gig that night, and they couldn’t afford to mess up with talent scouts in the crowd. They had kicked out Flynn already, and had locked the doors to the garage to minimise disturbance from Ray or Carlos, and while they were already playing the song well, they shared the sentiment that the performance that night needed to be great.
But it was a name that made her smile, brought a warmth to Julie’s heart and butterflies to her stomach. She still wasn’t quite used to it, seeing that name on her screen, despite it being a regular occurrence for months now: it still gave Julie that giddy feeling whenever it popped up on her caller ID.
Julie glanced up at her friends, her band, all waiting for her to hang up as the ringtone repeated for a sixth time: but in a split second decision, she reached out and pressed answer on the call, causing Luke to guffaw.
“What are you-”
“How’s my light in this dreary excuse for a life doing?” Julie asked down the phone, causing her band mates to hold back on their berating as she put the call on speaker, biting her lip as she tucked her hands under her thighs, her eyes on the guys as the response came through.
“You say that like you’re not the superstar here, Molina.” And simultaneously, Julie watched the jaws of her three ghost guys drop at the sound of a girl’s voice coming from the other side of the phone. “I’m not interrupting anything, am I?” She asked Julie, a waver of nerves in her voice. “I wasn’t sure when you were starting rehearsal today.”
“You’re all good, we’re taking a break.” Julie half-lied: the boys had certainly dropped their interest in practice upon the beginning of the phone call. “What’s the matter, ¿cariña?” She asked, watching Alex silently jump up from his seat and walk over to join Luke and Reggie in the room’s centre, three pairs of eyes watching Julie with matching expressions of dumbfounded confusion.
“W-well. Two things.” The voice spoke again, giggling a little in response to the pet name, and in turn causing Julie to blush. “I’m sorry I didn’t call last night; I fell asleep doing Chemistry homework.” The girl admitted, and Julie let out a laugh. “And second: about this gig tonight… What do you want me to wear?” she asked, but before Julie could respond, the girl continued. “Like, what says ‘hi, I’m Julie’s girlfriend but I’m super cool and chill and not at all weird in any way’? I mean, I don’t know how to dress for meeting Flynn, let alone meeting your ghost band mates…”
Julie watched Reggie and Alex silently scream at one another, the former beginning to bounce around the room as Luke just sat himself down on the coffee table from shock at the revelation.
“Y/N, whatever you wear, the guys will love it.” Julie was reassuring in her tone, her words sincere and sweet. “Oh! What about the blue polka dot dress, the one you wore on our picnic date?” She suggested, trying to ignore the borderline meltdown Reggie was having as she spoke, their bassist having grabbed a pillow from the couch and clutching it to his chest, his eyes nearly teary as he watched the phone call unfold.
“Oh, I love that one!” The girl, Y/N, squealed from down the phone, the sound of rustling and thuds coming from down the line, followed by a quick ‘oopsie daisy’, Julie smiling at the noise of her girlfriend’s clumsiness. “Found it! Ok, phew, thank you baby. I’m still meeting you there at 6, right?”
“Yep, if you come round to the side door I’ll make sure that security let you in.” Julie replied with a squeak of her own.
“This is so exciting! I mean, finally meeting all your friends, your family…” Y/N exclaimed, but quickly fell silent on the other end of the phone. “Are you sure you’re ready for this?” she asked in a nervous tone. “I mean, this is sort of it for you, coming out…”
It was true, Julie wasn’t publicly out. But now, with her band mates listening in and with two of the three flapping about the room like headless chickens from the shock of it, the cat was, sort of, out of the bag at that point.
“I’m sure.” Julie said quickly, nodding along as she spoke. “I should get back to practice now, the guys are waiting.” She said quickly, rounding off the call.
“Oh, of course, of course! I uh, I’ll see you tonight.” And with that, the phone call ended.
And chaos ensued.
“JULIE YOU HAVE TO TELL US EVERYTHING!” Reggie yelled the moment the dial tone sounded, rushing forward as Julie stood herself up, his hands gripping her shoulders and shaking the poor girl.
“You have a girlfriend…” Luke muttered softly; his eyes fixed on the ground as he processed.
“When did you meet? How old is she? Can we see pictures?” Alex asked, slightly less hyper than the bassist, who was quite clearly ecstatic about the news.
“You have a girlfriend?”
“Does she go to Los Feliz? Does she like music? Can she play too?” Reggie asked question after question, having to stop for a moment to catch his breath as Julie was finally given release from the boy’s grip and allowed to focus back on the room, on her friends. “Does she like puppies?!”
“You have a girlfriend and didn’t tell us?” Luke was standing now, and Alex and Reggie halted their questions to pay attention to their guitarist. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets, a look of introspection in his face: eyebrows furrowed, that familiar grumpy frown he had patented, and Julie’s face softened at the sight. “Julie, why didn’t you tell us sooner?”
“I just…” The question hung in the air as Julie tried to articulate her answer, the boys all stood across from her in a row, patient in waiting for her response. “I wanted to tell you guys… I just, I wasn’t ready yet.” It was a simple response, and she watched Luke as he took it in and processed it, wondering what the boy was thinking.
Luke accepted Alex, he himself was queer, surely he would accept and respect Julie’s relationship too… Right?
“Does she make you happy?” He asked after a minute or so of pondering, coming over and taking Julie’s hand in his, giving it a squeeze as he activated best friend mode.
“Yeah… She really does.” Julie said back, her voice no more than a whisper as she found herself getting a little choked up, a lump in her throat and happy tears brimming in her eyes as she watched Luke’s frown turn into a cheesy grin, the boy wrapping his arms around his friend and enveloping her in a tight hug, that Alex and Reggie soon joined in on. They squeezed her, surrounding the smaller girl and smothering her, quite literally, with affection and acceptance and their pride in her. “I need… to breathe…” She managed to croak, the four quickly breaking apart and muttering apologies.
“So… Tell us about her.” Alex said with a smile, Julie sitting herself down on the coffee table as the boys clambered onto the couch, wide eyed and eager to hear about this mystery girl who had Julie feeling all gooey inside.
“Yes please! Full biography, if you don’t mind. Name, age, school, interests, family, medical background, music taste, does she like puppies, is she a sock, sock, shoe, shoe person or sock, shoe, sock, shoe … The important stuff.” Reggie added on, and Julie couldn’t help but laugh at her friends, all leaning forward to make sure they didn’t miss a word.
“It’s alright, Y/N, you’ve got this. It’s just… It’s just another day…” The whispers of self-encouragement echoed through the back alley later that night as the teen made her way towards the side entrance to the venue. “You’re just seeing your girlfriend… Just watching her in concert, again…” Y/N wasn’t usually so nervous, but ever since she and Julie had begun dating a few months before, the nerves always seemed to build up before seeing her. Tonight, knowing she would not only be meeting Julie’s dad and brother, but her friends? It had Y/N in a bit of a panic, stopping as she passed by a window to look herself over in the reflection, fixing her hair for the twentieth time on her walk over, and pulling a tube of lipstick from her purse to reapply. “You’ve got this, come on Y/N… You wouldn’t be meeting them if you and Julie weren’t in a good place.” She reminded herself softly and let out a sigh.
“Can I help you?” a voice behind Y/N asked, causing her to spin and come face to face with a girl her age. She too was dressed for the concert that night, wearing a Julie and the Phantoms t-shirt under a pinafore dress. “You said Julie, just now… Are you looking for her? Is she expecting you?” She asked again, and Y/N eyes did another scan of the girl, her face immediately coming to mind from Julie’s Instagram: this was Flynn. Her girlfriend’s oldest friend was right in front of her.
“Uh, I uh…” Y/N stuttered, Flynn looking her over with a concern.
“You don’t look good… Why don’t we get you inside? Get you some water?” Flynn offered, taking Y/N’s forearm in her grip and gently coaxing her for the nearby side entrance to the venue, Y/N taking one last glance at the crowds gathering for the concert on the main street before she was led into the venue and down a spiral staircase. “You’re lucky I found you, the security team are super strict here.” Flynn explained to Y/N, the stranger, like the two were old friends, veering to the right and leading her into a rather fancy looking dressing room. “Here…” Flynn let go of her arm to rush over and grab Y/N a bottle of water, passing it over quickly, and watching as Y/N quickly downed half the bottle to try and combat her anxiety.
“Thank you…” Y/N managed after taking a gulping breath.
“Not a problem. So, you’re looking for Julie?” Flynn asked again, and Y/N nodded. “I probably should have checked you weren’t a crazy stalker first before inviting you in, huh? What’s your name?” Flynn hurried herself around the dressing room, collecting cables and a guitar before heading back for the room’s door.
“Y/N… Do you need a hand?” She came out of her nerves to catch the guitar about to slip from under Flynn’s arm, the pair sharing a wary smile.
“Yes, I do, it seems. Well, Y/N, follow me. Julie and the guys are running through their sound check, I’ll deliver you to her.” Flynn grinned, starting a jog back up the corridor they had just come down, Y/N prompted to stick to the girl’s heels. Y/N couldn’t help but admire the girl’s easy manner, how, like Julie, she could settle her nerves with no effort. They followed another corridor along the floor as they passed by the staircase they had descended, quickly coming to a large black door that Flynn kicked open with her foot.
Suddenly, Y/N was hit by a wall of sound: of a perfect culmination of guitar and bass and drums and piano, paired with the angelic voice Y/N knew all too well. It knocked her off balance for a moment, and she clung tight to the guitar charged into her possession, worried she might drop it from the sheer euphoria she got listening to Julie’s voice. She felt like she was floating above the ground as Flynn directed her towards the source of the music, trying to stop herself rushing onto the stage when she spotted her girlfriend.
“We're all bright now, what a sight now, coming out like we're fireworks. Marching on proud, turn it up loud, ‘cause now we know what we're worth.” Julie sang out as she played alongside herself, radiating an energy that left the whole room smiling as they watched on: from the sound techs to the bartenders setting up for the incoming crowd.
“We know we can make it we’re not falling down under, close my eyes and feel my chest beating like thunder.” The boy on guitar, who Y/N remembered was Luke, joined in on the vocals with Julie, who took the harmony, the pair meeting in the centre of the stage to sing together on Julie’s mic. “I wanna fly, come alive…” Luke quickly fell away again, Julie’s attention turning to movement in her peripheral as Flynn set down the cables she had brought along and removed the guitar from Y/N’s hands.
“Watch me shine!” Julie sang out as her eyes landed on Y/N, a smile bursting onto her face as she recognised her girlfriend, waving quickly at her. Y/N waved back, biting her lip to stop herself for laughing at Julie’s adorable demeanour.
“I got a spark in me, hands up if you can see. And you're a part of me, hands up if you're with me. Now 'til eternity, hands up if you believe. Been so long, and now we're finally free.” The whole band sang along on the chorus line, Julie’s attention on the wings quickly drawing the guys’ eyes there as well, to the girl stood at Flynn’s side in a polka dot dress, watching Julie like she was the only girl in the world. “I got a spark in me, hands up if you can see. And you're a part of me, hands up if you're with me. Now 'til eternity, hands up if you believe. Been so long, and now we're finally free.”
As they sang the chorus a second time in lead up to the song’s bridge, Luke rushed across the stage, Reggie on his tail as they both came into the wings.
Y/N and Flynn weren’t quite sure how to react to the pair bounding over, nor did they know what to do as the boys grabbed onto Y/N’s arms and pulled her onto the stage, placing her right in the middle where Julie stood. That afternoon, after the phone call, Julie had been badgered into telling her friends everything and anything about her girlfriend: including the fact that Y/N was a big fan of their music, and that she could sing.
“I got a spark in me.” Julie sang into the mic, taking a nervous breath before holding her hand out to Y/N, the pair quickly interlocking fingers and stepping closer together, Julie offering the microphone for Y/N to sing into. “I got a spark in me.” She echoed back a harmony line, nervously, but the smile on Julie’s face was enough to banished her worries, even if just for a moment. “And you're a part of me.” “And you're a part of me.” “Now 'til eternity.” “Now 'til eternity.” “Been so long, and now we're finally free.” Julie sang out, laughing as Y/N took the chance to spin Julie under her arm, neither caring to notice the grinning faces of the boys behind them, or the shock that plastered Flynn’s face, alongside Carlos, Ray and Julie’s tía Victoria, who had just walked in with pizza for the kids. It was like they were in their own little world, and as the song came to a close, the final chorus sang amidst Y/N and Julie’s dancing, both girls were left a little breathless from their bouncing, not to mention the butterflies bubbling inside each of them any time they looked at the other.
With a final bang of the drums closing up the song, reality quickly came back to the girls, Y/N dropping Julie’s hand as she quickly turned to see the one, two, three, four, five, six, seven… pair of eyes on her and Julie, and that was without mentioning the staff working that night.
“Um, guys…” Julie started, taking a step to the side to get the boys, Flynn and her family into her view, with Y/N in the centre of it all. “This is Y/N…” She said again, chewing on her bottom lip as confused waves were passed between the group.
“Hello.” Y/N said, glancing back at the guys and waving nervously to them as well, all three of the gathered on Alex’s drum stand and waving back.
“Y/N… Y/N is my girlfriend.”
There was silence, no-one quite sure who had superiority on speaking first, but Julie decided to cement the fact her statement provided by walking back to Y/N and interlocking their hands once more, the pair smiling at one another. While the boys behind them and Flynn were grinning like crazy, Julie and Y/N’s focus had fallen onto her family, who stood on the main floor before the stage. Ray shared a glance with Victoria, and for a moment Y/N expected the absolute worst.
“I’m really glad we bought extra pizza.” Ray said with a smile, flooding both the girls with relief as he made his way up onto the stage. “Maybe tell me next time your girlfriend comes along, mi hija: I’m not going to be this well-prepared every time.” He added, setting the pizzas down on the piano stool and jogging over to embrace Y/N in a firm embrace alongside Julie, the girls hugging back in response. “I’m Ray, Julie’s dad.”
“I know. It’s nice to meet you Mr Molina.” Y/N responded mid-hug.
“You know, the fact that the guys knew before I did is honestly insulting Julie.” Flynn spoke up as Ray pulled back from the hug, Flynn coming in for her own with Y/N. “I can’t believe those idiots got to meet you before I did.”
“O-oh, I… I haven’t met them before.” Y/N admitted, looking up as the guys came over. “I have no clue how they know.”
“That… That was me…” Julie admitted, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
“When you called today, you interrupted practice.” Reggie said rather loudly. “Julie put you on speaker, we heard the whole thing. I had a meltdown.”
“The outfit definitely gives ‘cool and chill and not weird in any way’ vibes you were going for.” Luke added, and Y/N went pink in the cheeks.
“Sorry about them.” Alex interrupted, holding out a hand that Y/N shook quickly. “I’m Alex. Thing 1 is Luke; Thing 2 is Reggie. They have no filter.” He said with a smile and shrug, only to watch Y/N look down at their connected hands, her eyebrows furrowing.
“Julie, baby,” Y//N said softly, getting a blush on her girlfriend’s cheeks and earning coos from the rest of the group. “I thought you said they were ghosts?” She whispered, glancing over to Ray, Carlos and Victoria, who were dishing out pizza and drinks. “Now, I might be wrong… But isn’t the whole thing that you can’t touch them?”
“Yeah, they kind of are? It’s a long story, definitely one that needs explaining…” Julie answered quickly, pressing a kiss to Y/N’s cheek that froze the girl in surprise. “But that’s for another time.”
“Yep, ok.” Y/N grinned, willing to agree to whatever Julie said without resistance. Ray called the six of them over for pizza at the far side of the stage.
As Julie and Y/N headed over, hand in hand, their heads resting against one another’s as they went, Luke, Reggie, Alex and Flynn watched on, sharing grins between themselves and mouthings of ‘oh my God’. It was nice for all of them, Julie’s family included, to see their star, their Julie, so happy.
And from then on, Julie was Y/N’s Julie too: because if the way those girls looked at each other wasn’t love, then, well, none of them were quite sure what love could be.

“Two, three, four!” Alex counted off and the band sprung into action inside the studio. The one good thing about the drums was that it made him hyper aware of every limb on his body. There was no room for distractions or intrusive thoughts when he was keeping time. It was almost like the euphoria of being dizzy, only without the dizziness. He could be okay in this state for a little while - just long enough to reset his mind and declutter itself.
As they finished their take, they heard a familiar voice from the sound booth.
“Sounds incredible boys!”
Caleb. There went the whole ‘reset and declutter’ thing he had going.
Each of the guys looked around at each other, knowing they would have to do their best to pretend they didn’t know anything. This was the first time they were seeing him since Alex had given the news to the rest of the band. None of them had actually discussed what they would do the next time Caleb happened to stop in. Setting down their instruments and slowly filing into the sound booth, they all greeted Caleb, trying to appear happy to see him.
“Let’s hear that playback, shall we?” he said as they all sat together. He pressed a few knobs on his soundboard and they all listened closely to their own song. It was just gonna be another session with notes on where they could dub vocals here and there or duplicate tracks to fill things out - it had to be normal, Alex prayed.
“And let’s stop here for a minute,” Caleb was saying after getting into a couple minutes of the track. “Reggie. What happened to the bassline?” Reggie sat up, blinking at being called out. “That’s not what was on your demo; why did you change it?”
Reggie’s face had already fallen as he made flustered attempts to respond.
“I-I...I just liked that line better...I think it fits the style and the direction of the song,” he stammered, shoulders slumped, avoiding eye contact. His hands came together in his usual fidget - the one he did when he got yelled at. Alex saw Bobby’s hand curl into a fist.
“Alright, alright, trust me,” Caleb placated. “I understand, probably more than any of you, why improvising a part feels so good. I wouldn’t host a jazz club if I didn’t get that. But here the difference is that no one knows your songs yet, boys.”
“We’ve had faithful fans for years,” Luke interrupted.
Caleb cut him off with a mere look. Shutting his mouth, Luke scratched the back of his head nervously. After taking a breath, Caleb simply let out a sigh.
“Boys.” His tone was really drawing on the charisma, Alex noticed. “My job in helping you reach the stardom that you all one hundred percent deserve is to help you create a footprint on the walk of fame. A footprint means as beginners we can’t mess with the core elements that make your brand. These songs need to stay consistent until we have thousands of fans singing back to you in the audience the very lines you wrote in your humble garage. They need to know the first few seconds of that drumbeat and recall who you are on the radio. They are going to learn those basslines and those chords and add them to their own repertoire while they aspire to be legends like you! Don’t you see how important that is? I know. Playing around is fun; experimenting with new ideas and sounds is the whole reason we’re here. But from now on, I want you boys to stay in one lane, and I will match your speed.”
Eyeing each other warily, they all awkwardly murmured and nodded to agree with him. None of his words had been all that comforting. Alex was stuck thinking about how Caleb had made an appeal to every single one of them and somehow been right on the nose. It was like he could read their minds and it felt rather invasive.
“We’ll remember that,” Alex told him. He knew the other three were battling with their fight or flight responses and it would be suspicious.
“Oh, good,” Caleb replied. “I can see we’re having an off day, but maybe Alex can get the rest of you on board. Let’s run that song again.”
Exchanging glances, the guys stood up and headed back into the recording booth.
“Man, chemistry sucks,” Bobby complained from his seat in the armchair in his garage. Books were spread out around him, as well as about a dozen crumpled up pieces of notebook paper. “Reggie would get this.”
Alex looked up from the history homework he’d been focused on. He was gaining such an ear for whenever Reggie or Bobby mentioned one another and it made him laugh inwardly. For now, though, he had to hide the smirk.
“Well, I would call him, but he’s taking care of his sister tonight.”
“Yeah, I know. I don’t want to bother him anyways.”
This was one of the rare occasions where it was just Alex and Bobby together. Usually at least Luke would be around, but he was out on some date with Julie and there was no telling when he was expected back. Bobby had been helping Alex with history for a little bit but about half an hour ago remembered his own homework in a panic. Now they were both having trouble focusing. Their time in the studio that morning was clearly still on both of their minds.
“Hey, did Reggie tell you we were playing for his cousin’s wedding?” Alex asked in a non sequitur fashion.
“What?” Bobby said, finally sitting up and tearing his eyes off the diagram he was making. “No, he didn’t. Since when was that happening?”
“I’ve known for a couple weeks,” Alex told him casually.
“Oh.” Bobby looked down at the floor. “Any reason you haven’t mentioned it until now?”
Alex shifted in his seat on the couch at the suspicion in Bobby’s voice, but tried to play it off with a shrug.
“I just forgot. We’ve had a lot going on since he mentioned it to me.”
It did the trick. Still, Bobby sat in thought for a while, playing with his tongue inside his mouth absent-mindedly. Alex physically bit his own tongue to keep himself from asking what was on Bobby’s mind and pretended to turn his attention back to his history work. There was a long, static pause.
“Reggie’s been really weird lately,” Bobby said.
“Is that so?” Alex didn’t look up this time.
“Yeah. I mean, he’s always been goofy and everything, but I mean, he’s been unusual even for him. You know what I mean?”
“I guess I haven’t been paying as close of attention.” Alex flipped a page in his text book. “But I’ll take your word. Are you worried about him?”
Furrowing his brow, Bobby frowned in thought.
“I’m not sure,” he said. “I mean, I always worry about him, you know, cuz of everything he deals with at home. But I don’t know...this is different.”
“Is it because of what Caleb said today?”
“I didn’t like that either, but no, that’s not it.”
He looked so serious that Alex couldn’t find it funny anymore. Actually, Bobby seemed so distressed by it that it was making Alex distressed.
“Hey,” he said with concern. “Why do you look so bummed about it?”
He received a glance as though a great weight sat upon Bobby’s shoulders. It was so familiar it shot him in the chest. His friend looked so lost and uncertain, so afraid to speak his mind. And Alex thought Reggie had been conflicted. It was a little worrying.
“I think you actually know what's going on, huh?” Bobby said in resignation.
Nope. Now it was just frustrating. Alex sat up and looked at Bobby directly.
“Okay, I know expressing yourself isn’t your strong suit, Bobby, but please say it out loud. You can do it. Especially with me.”
His friend’s eyebrows knit together even further, trying to convince himself to get it off his chest. A minute passed, and finally he shut his chemistry book, set it aside, and faced Alex.
“I have feelings for Reggie.”
Thank god.
“Good job! You’re officially the last to know!”
Bobby’s face fell into a confused expression.
“What?”
Alex merely shrugged. They were so helpless, but luckily he was better at trying to solve others’ problems than his own.
“I had to let you come to your own conclusion. It was exhausting; you took forever.”
Bobby folded his hands and fidgeted with his thumbs.
“How long have you noticed?”
“Technically? Since before playing at the Pearl. But that’s when it really started to be obvious.”
Smirking, Bobby just bowed and shook his head.
“You know,” he began. “When I was first getting to know you, I didn’t trust you. Luke and I were already so close, and he introduced me to you and Reggie and you two already were such good friends. For a while I couldn’t figure out when you were being sarcastic or serious and I didn’t want to admit I was too sensitive. Reggie helped me figure out the difference and I just sort of dropped anything I was upset about.”
Alex listened carefully, nodding at his words.
“And now you’ve started getting all personal because you know I’m the most trustworthy one here, right?” he half-teased.
Nodding, Bobby smiled a little.
“I guess this is the part where you tell me to get my crap together and tell Reggie?”
“Yep,” Alex said. “But go at your own pace. The last thing I want is you two making things even weirder than they already are by trying to discuss things when you’re not prepared. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great, but don’t forget the rest of the band in the process.”
“Oh, yeah,” Bobby pondered. “You have a point. Speaking of weird business, I’m still not cool about us pretending to go along with making the album while knowing what we do about Caleb.”
“Me neither, but I think Luke was right. We’re just being careful.”
“Since when is Sunset Curve careful, though? We would just set up and play wherever we could until we got chased off the property, and then we’d just find a new location the next night.”
“The difference is we were nobody fifteen year olds who didn’t have contracts signed. You said it yourself, we could risk losing the rights to our own music if we break things off.”
“We read the contracts, though, right?” Bobby insisted. “I made sure we did. I don’t remember anything that seemed too controlling in them.”
“Would we have known what to look for?” Alex responded.
Sighing heavily and flopping back into his chair, Bobby stared up into the ceiling. It felt like no good answer could be given. Alex was frustrated too, but he remembered what Tía Victoria had told him as well. He believed Willie, of course, especially since Victoria hadn’t actually seen or spoken to him. She hadn’t been able to get a sniff of Caleb’s true nature, and she was a professional investigator. If Caleb could fool her that easily, he’d tied their hands while they willingly held them out.
“Bobby,” Alex started. “What are you thinking?”
“I’m thinking we should stop laying ourselves on the ground and letting him walk all over us. None of this ‘establish the brand’ B.S.”
Straightening his posture, Alex sat up and folded his hands. That was exactly what he wanted to do, too. Even if he didn’t know anything else about Caleb, the way he’d gone after Reggie had left a sour enough taste in his mouth. Before he could say anything else to Bobby, Luke stepped into the garage.
“Guys, I was thinking - ” he started.
“You wanna go after Caleb too?” Bobby said.
“Whoa, how did you know?” he sat back in surprise.
“Bobby and I were just talking about it,” Alex told him. Luke raised his eyebrows as he flopped onto the couch beside Alex.
“Were you guys mad when he singled out Reggie, too?”
“Yes!”
“Nobody shames Reggie like that!”
“Bobby, you should go cheer him up,” Luke suggested. “We all know you’re in love with him.”
“Oh my god!” Bobby cried, throwing his arms into the air in exasperation. Immediately he stood up and gathered all his books. “Just for that, I’m turning in you guys. Have a nice night, Alex. Luke, I hope it’s cold.” He stormed out of the garage and into his house while Luke and Alex simply laughed together.
“I, uh… I already gave him a speech about it,” Alex told Luke, smirking.
“Thank you!” Luke cried. “I know they tease me about being dense but at least I go for what I want! And so do you!”
Smiling at the acknowledgement of him and Willie, Alex slowly started packing up his homework. He could finish it tomorrow night.
“By the way, how was hanging out with Julie?” he asked.
Placing his arms behind his head, Luke got that dreamy far-off look on his face. The ‘Julie on the mind’ look. He smiled like he’d seen an angel and the angel had smiled back in kind.
“Oh, she’s awesome. She’s way better at roller skating than me. I wish there were two of me just so one of us could hold her hand while skating with her and the other could sit down and watch.”
Alex made a face at the odd visual, but he understood what Luke was talking about. He wondered what he and Willie looked like from an outside perspective. Did they look as happy as he felt? Did Willie bring out something in him that he’d never seen in the mirror? Or even something the rest of the guys didn’t know yet? That was something he really wanted to discuss with Willie now.
“I can’t wait until her mom gets out of the hospital,” Luke was saying. “I want to learn everything she can teach me. She told me she took two years just working on the production of an album for her band. Imagine what we could do with our songs if we had her in the studio instead of Caleb.”
“Wow,” Alex commented. “At this point, I really wish we were working with the Molinas. At least they seem to get us.”
Luke looked at him and Alex knew he’d heard all the underlying meaning in that sentence. All the guys had been accepted by Julie’s family in a way none of their own seemed capable of. Alex almost wished he hadn’t said it out loud because it only tempted him to forget about heading home.
“Maybe one day, we will, Alex,” Luke said, giving him an encouraging smile.
He chuckled as he shouldered his backpack and headed out the door.
“Yeah. That’d be sweet.”
