Calypso’s Comic History
The full comic history of Calypso, voodoo witch and partner of Kraven. It's a wild, problematic ride.
We recently talked about Calypso in our latest episode of Weird Lore Bullshit Corner, a podcast where we talk about Spider-Man’s strangest stories and characters. You can find that here.

i seriously cant believe how misunderstood Constantines character was by most of his writers. Hes essentially the meaning of “everyone who is human makes mistakes” and preaches about how we are not good or bad by our actions, and about how tragedy changes someone (in his case there is magic involved)…..but nooo edgy dark lord of magic who sleeps around a lot is the representation we get by most of the mainstream writers

HUGHIE'S COMIC BOOK INTRO WITH ROBIN WAS A FRICKING SPACED REFERENCE?!?
NO I AM NOT OKAY I'M PUTTING IMAGE COMMENTARY ON MAIN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
as if it was not enough that our beloved Wee Hughie Campbell was so intentionally drawn to look like Simon Pegg, Garth and Darick even went as far as basing the look of his short-lived girlfriend Robin Mawhinney on none other than Jessica Hynes (née Stevenson)
Spaced had a memorable scene in its 1999 debut episode in which Tim and Daisy, the protagonist flatmates played by Pegg and Hynes respectively, were far from done unpacking their boxes and they're just standing in the middle of the room dressed up like Shaggy and Velma from Scooby Doo
Tim, Shaggy, and now Hughie notably all wearing green tops with Hughie standing out for wearing a hoodie instead of just a t-shirt and blue trousers instead of brown
while Daisy, Velma, and then Robin are all thick black rim bespectacled with chin-length auburn bobs and wearing scarlet long-sleeved turtlenecks and dark miniskirts
the GIF that I got of Velma flirting with Shaggy for reference is a very brightly colored version of them but you get the idea
it's not that I didn't see this on first reading, it's just that it kinda haunts me and I don't know what to do with the information
