Dead On Main part 7
Masterpost
dedicated to @cervinebotanist and @leafyeyes417 for responding so quickly and with such enthusiasm to part 6. Thank you for the encouragement and support.
Danny takes a deep breath. He can hear scrambling from somewhere else in the car, but he can’t pay attention to what’s happening as he focuses inward. He closes his eyes, and reaches inside himself.
Jason has a tiny baby core! Danny almost coos at it, but it’s so underdeveloped that he’s sad instead. Danny can feel ectoplasm in himself, in Jason’s body. But it isn’t enough. This ectoplasm has been reused, reduced, recycled one too many times. It’s got barely enough to stay alive left in it. Jason is mostly being sustained by his human half right now. It feels like play-doh that turns to dust where it should stretch, dried-out and old. It makes him even more sad. And slightly ill. But the sadness makes the rioting ectoplasm calm back down inside him.
Danny opens his eyes. He’s slightly disoriented, but calm now, eyes no longer glowing. They had stopped the car. He looks at Tim, who is leaning against his door and braced against it and Dick’s chair, giving Danny as much space as possible. His hand is almost on the door handle and his tablet on the floor. Dick and Bruce are exchanging panicked looks in the front seat, both now unbuckled for some reason and completely turned to face the backseat.
“Hey, speaking of ectoplasm, this body really needs some.” Danny informs them. “If it doesn’t get some new ectoplasm soon his core is going to cease functioning, and that would be really bad, and possibly irreversible.”
“Uhhh.” Dick’s panicked look is turning straight to confusion, as is everyone else’s. “What?”
“I didn’t realize that Jason was, I mean he had mentioned he died, but he- well, I guess I didn’t want to talk about it over the phone either. Does make it easier to talk about since we’re the same, but of course we couldn’t have known yet. But his core needs some help, do you not have access to ectoplasm back home?” Danny is rambling, brain spinning at the thought of how much he and Jason have in common. This big thing that no one else would truly understand by each other. And Vlad, sort of, but nobody likes Vlad. “It’s amazing that we ended up soulmates. He’s only the third person in the world I’ve even heard about with this condition. How long has he been without ectoplasm? Is he having trouble finding any, or does he not know he needs it? Either way, I’m giving him some as soon as possible.” Danny doesn’t know whether he should freak out over that fact that his soulmate is as dead as he is, that he’s currently dying from lack of ecto, or that his soulmate’s entire family is probably going to end up learning about him and ghosts, or the fact that he is currently taking another body that the GIW is going to want to study straight to them. All of these things seem like great reasons to freak out on their own, so all together he is just panicking.
Danny doesn’t seem to be able to breathe.
“Hey, come on, that’s fine, you can totally give Jason some… ectoplasm.” Dick says.
“Danny, you have to breathe, okay.” Tim is much calmer than Dick, so Danny focuses on him as Bruce and Dick whisper in the front. “Danny, match my breathing.” Danny stares at Tim, who is making very exaggerated breathing movements, and tries to time his breathing to match. “We’ll figure everything out, but we don’t need to do it right now.” Tim is still helping Danny, talking calmly, but he says this with enough force to distract the two in the front seat enough for them to shut up for a second. Danny appreciates the bit of silence.
“You need to start driving.” Danny, tells Bruce. “Right now, his human half is sustaining the rest of him almost entirely. If Jason doesn’t get more ecto soon, his other half will die, and I’m not sure what will happen to his human side if that happens. He may die again completely.”
There’s a beat of silence in the car. Bruce stares right into Danny’s eyes.
“You are saying there is an active threat to my son’s life, ” Bruce asks, voice hard.
Danny nods. Then everyone is buckled back in and Bruce is pulling them back onto the road.
“You know what’s happening and how to help him?” Bruce asks, voice steady but Danny can sense all the emotion underneath. Bruce is really worried right now, he looks around the car and realizes that Dick and Tim are as well. They both have phones out, but are tense, tuned into his conversation with Bruce.
“Yeah, It’s a simple enough fix, I’m just worried because he’s really…” Danny takes a moment to think of the right word. “Ecto deficient? His core is definitely malnourished, and his body and mind definitely need it. They are being sustained with human stuff for now, but eventually that won’t be enough.”
“How urgent is this?”
Danny feels for Jason’s core, feeling like he’s invading his privacy, but without other options to check. It’s not cracked, but it’s not fully formed either. Half starved baby core, not even strong enough to present. Its link to an obsession is strong, but frayed enough that Danny can’t tell what it is. The core is not strong enough to produce it’s own ecto, even in response to the obsession being fulfilled. Everything is stable, but strained.
“I’m not an expert, but he’s sustained himself this long. And we’re already on the way. We should be fine, but I’ll keep an eye on it just in case.”

The Way to His Heart [11]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: general!Seonghwa x wife!reader
AU: arranged marriage au (Joseon era)
Word Count: 3.7k
Trigger Warnings: gore, implied mutilation
Summary: Life has been hell ever since your mother's passing many years ago. Despite being from a prominent family, you've never received the privileges associated with it. It only got worse with the arrival of your stepmother and her daughters. When the intimidating General Park was in search of a wife, your father seized the opportunity to dispose of you, simultaneously securing a connection with the powerful general—killing two birds with one stone.
Part 10 | Fic Masterlist | Part 12
Tumblr media
Hearing the cessation of all the screams, one of the royal guards gathered the courage to enter the chamber and check on Seonghwa, "Sir, are you done?"
Upon entering, he had yet to witness the state in which the former minister was left. The general stood before his victim, actively wiping all the blood off his hands with a towel prepared beforehand, "It's done. Has my assistant arrived to pick me up?"
"Yes, sir. Assistant Choi is waiting with your carriage by the entrance. If I remember correctly, he mentioned Lady Park helped prepare dinner today." A smile instantly graced your husband's face at the mere mention of you.
"Thank you, soldier. Bring in the rest and clean up the mess," He instructed, finally stepping away from the seat in the middle of the room, revealing the sight of your father slumped in the chair, both of his arms missing, blood gushing out from his shoulders, "Get him to a physician before banishing him. No need to treat him extensively; heal him just enough to keep him alive."
Freezing, the guard nodded quickly, "Y-yes, sir! We will not let you down!" His round eyes fixated on the two mutilated limbs on the ground in the middle of the puddle of crimson liquid.
The general was truly not someone to be underestimated, that was evident to the royal guards who filed in later on to clean up the bloody mess. They now understood why Seonghwa was so feared among those who had worked with him or witnessed his cold-blooded nature firsthand.
However, rather than instilling pure terror, your husband garnered more respect from them. He had gone to great lengths just to avenge his beloved wife. This demonstrated that the man still possessed a heart after all and that his affection for Lady Park was undeniable. He has proven that he could love just as fiercely as he hated.
Not a single member of the palace staff harboured even a hint of pity for the former Minister of Military Affairs as they dealt with his mangled body according to instructions. Any citizen with access to news was aware of all the cruel acts the old man had committed against his own daughter and first wife. It was safe to say that witnessing him in this state brought ample satisfaction not only to the general but to others as well.
"Sir, there's a bit of blood here."
The assistant extended his handkerchief, ensuring his master was free from any signs of bloodshed as they returned home. The last thing they all needed was for you to catch on to any of the events that occurred today; you should only focus on happiness and never spare another thought for your so-called family from now onwards.
"Thank you, Jongho," The general responded, taking the piece of fabric to remove the small bloodstain on his neck, "Keep me posted on where they banished that clown afterwards. It would be nice to check in on him once in a while, for entertainment purposes."
"Yes, sir."
Upon entering the estate, he was surprised not to find you waiting for him by the entrance, as was your usual routine when he returned from work. Only the head maid and a few servants stood there, ready to greet him, "Welcome home, master. We hope you had a good day at work." They said with a deep bow.
Seonghwa frowned, "Where's the mistress?" The elderly woman replied, "Mistress is currently at the main hall having a chat with Royal Secretary Choi while they were awaiting your return."
That immediately had the general rushing towards the hall. He didn't like the thought of you alone with... yet another handsome man. He had finally grown accustomed to having Yunho around the estate whenever he was at work, only because the two of you rarely interacted; he knew that thanks to daily reports from Eunsook. Now, jealousy was flooding his veins again.
What if you found San more attractive?
"Yes, I fully understand your concern. My sister faces similar issues," The royal secretary's voice carried from outside the hall, and then your softer response followed, "Thank you so much for your help, San. It means a lot to me."
They're already on a first-name basis?
"Help? With what?" He queried, abruptly pulling you and the secretary from your conversation. Both of you looked up at him, and you blinked and stammered nervously, quickly rising from your seat, "Oh, Seonghwa! You're home! It's nothing, we were just having a casual conversation while waiting for you."
Sensing your unease, San chuckled and concurred, "Yes, it was nothing important. It's good that you're back; I've come to deliver the minutes of today's assembly to you, as per His Majesty's orders."
"Please don't let me interrupt; I'll be waiting for you at the dining hall," You remarked to your husband, offering a nod of gratitude to the secretary, "It was nice talking to you, Royal Secretary Choi," The man respectfully bowed his head, "And you, Lady Park."
The general watched the interaction between you two with unmistakable envy, causing San to suppress a snicker into his fist, "Without further ado, general, let's proceed so that you can join your wife for dinner as soon as possible," Seonghwa nodded, feigning nonchalance, "Of course."
As the secretary continued to share the main details discussed during the assembly, he noticed the general's slight distraction. Wrapping up the debrief, he decided to ease your husband's thoughts by divulging the nature of your earlier conversation.
"Listen, before you came back, Lady Park and I were just talking about her concerns regarding being a better wife. Given that my elder sister, who is married, shares similar worries, I was merely offering some insights that might be helpful. So, don't stress over it too much, okay? I assure you, you're the only one on her mind."
Learning that you were only seeking to improve yourself for him, Seonghwa's heart melted immediately. Regret washed over him for entertaining the notion that you might find his colleague more appealing, and a slight embarrassment crept in, "I, uhh... it's not like I was worried about that or anything... but thank you, San. If that's all for today, Jongho will escort you out."
The secretary held back his knowing smile as they bid each other farewell before the general made his way to the dining hall. His heart pounded with excitement at the thought of being with you again.
Dinner went by as usual, though this time, you were brimming with enthusiasm as you shared how you spent the day learning to prepare his favourite dishes from the kitchen staff. You even mentioned the surprising discovery that you might have developed a love for cooking. He ate more than usual, savouring the fact that the meal was made just for him, and found it difficult to take his eyes off of you throughout the night.
He had once considered happiness to be a frivolous notion, something only fools wished for. He never anticipated being the one to experience it. Now that he had, your husband was determined not to lose this newfound feeling.
With your family matters now resolved, the only thing remaining was to give you the grand wedding you truly deserved. From then on, the plan was to enjoy a lifetime of this happiness together. Watching you munching away with joy, he couldn't resist reaching over to affectionately wipe the corner of your lips. At that moment, he realised that this was all he needed.
After the meal, he walked you back to the House of Lotus, hand in hand as usual. Upon reaching the entrance, you smiled up at him, "Have a good night, Seonghwa."
However, before you could turn and leave, he swiftly cupped your face, "Wait, before you go..." Your heart quickened as he leaned in, whispering, "Just one kiss, my love."
Almost instinctively, your eyes fluttered closed as soon as his lips met yours in a tender kiss. The warmth spread through your insides as he wrapped his arms around your frame, pulling you closer and deepening the kiss by angling his head.
Feeling the sensation of his lips pressing against yours, again and again, you finally understood why couples enjoyed kissing. It was hard to put into words, but being so close to him felt pleasant, and your husband had a unique way of making you feel beautiful with his touches, even when you doubted it yourself. There was an almost addictive quality to it, making you feel like the luckiest woman in the world to be desired by the great General Park.
Perhaps I've found it... my happiness.
After breaking the kiss for a breath, he leaned his forehead against yours, a smile adorning his face as he looked down at you lovingly. In silence, the two of you remained in each other's arms, basking in the moment, reluctant to part.
Unfortunately, the moment was cut short as your assigned group of servants approached, "Oh, pardon us for the intrusion, master and mistress! We came to assist in preparing the mistress for bed. May we proceed, master? Or, if you wish to stay with the mistress, we could also make arrangements for both of you for the night in the House of Lotus."
His heart raced as he witnessed the faint blush on your cheeks in response to the maid's suggestion. Chuckling, he gently shook his head and placed a kiss on your forehead, "No, the mistress needs her rest. Perhaps another time. Go on ahead then; she will join you soon."
"Yes, master, as you wish."
The servants entered your quarters to prepare your bath while you exchanged your goodnight. Caressing your cheeks with his thumbs, he couldn't resist leaning in for a final, lingering kiss on your soft lips, "Goodnight, my love. I'll see you tomorrow."
As you made your way to your room, he felt a swell of affection watching you turn for one last wave before disappearing inside. He missed you already, and as much as he would have loved to hold you close all night, he knew that waiting until your proper wedding night to share the same bed was the right decision. For now, this was more than enough. After all, he had the rest of his life to spend with you.
"Thank goodness the ointment has been remarkably effective. I don't think you need to harbour any insecurities about your appearance anymore. Lady Park, you look beautiful." said Physician Jung as he arrived to assess the condition of your skin. Having you apply the medicine he prepared for some time, he recognised that his work here would soon be done.
Eunsook couldn't contain the grin on her face at the slight pink dusting your cheeks from the doctor's compliment, suddenly relieved that her master was not around. Lord knows how unamused he would have been to hear any of that or see your reaction.
"Yes, thank you, Yunho. She's always been ravishing with or without your ointment. I think your job here is done; it's my turn to enhance this beauty. Head over to the general's study for your pay if that's all," The doctor couldn't resist rolling his eyes at the dressmaker's dramatic entrance, "It's nice to see you too, Hongjoong."
With a dismissive wave, he shrugged off the sarcastic greeting from his tall friend, saying, "I'll catch up with you soon; I have work to do." Left with no other choice, Yunho offered one final bow to you before leaving your room with a maid escorting him out.
Closing the distance between you, the dressmaker swiftly retrieved the new hanbok he had made specifically for the special occasion today, declaring, "Now, who is ready to outshine all the princesses in the palace? It's you, Lady Park!"
"Outshine the princesses? I d-don't think that's a good idea—"
He interrupted you before you could finish your protest, "Nonsense! I promised General Park to make you the most beautiful woman in all of Joseon." With a small giggle, you sighed in defeat and allowed him to work his magic with the assistance of the head maid as they coordinated your appearance for your visit to the palace.
Today marked the day you and Seonghwa were meeting the King and Queen to discuss the details of your wedding ceremony in-depth, as well as allowing the royal couple to finally meet you after having heard so much about you. Even without having seen you, they already adored you from the stories your husband had shared. Not to mention, their hearts ached, especially after learning about your nightmarish childhood.
Seated at the vanity table, you gazed at your reflection in amazement as Eunsook worked on your hair and makeup, with Hongjoong providing expert advice and guidance. Just as the elderly woman was about to conceal the remaining faint scars on your face as she had always done, the dressmaker intervened, "No, wait. Leave the one on her forehead as it is; I have an idea."
With his extensive knowledge of fashion and beauty, he had always been intrigued by the Chinese makeup style, which incorporated temporary tattoos. Specifically, he was drawn to the idea of a small flower design painted onto women's foreheads.
Rather than covering your marks, he opted to transform them into an accessory that would improve your overall looks. With this distinctive look, you were bound to capture attention from all directions, not that your beauty didn't already achieve that. Now, you would stand out wherever you went, even within the palace grounds where princesses and royal concubines were always impeccably dressed.
Waiting by the entrance, Seonghwa turned when he recognised the sound of your dainty footsteps approaching. He didn't miss his assistant's awestruck expression, taking in your appearance from behind him, "Finally, Hongjoong's taken way too long..."
As you stepped into full view, his words trailed off, and his gaze fixed on you with a mix of astonishment and sheer admiration. His breath caught in his throat, and for a moment, he couldn't find the words to express what he felt. You had always been beautiful in his eyes, but his friend had truly outdone himself this time.
The most significant difference that caught the general's attention was the little red flower on your forehead, right between your eyes. That delicate design elegantly covered one of the scars you bore from your past. It was a stroke of genius from the dressmaker, turning a mark of pain into a unique and striking accessory that enhanced your natural beauty.
Your husband approached you, his eyes never leaving yours. Finally finding his voice, he whispered, "You look breathtaking, my love," before gently reaching up to trace the edge of the flower on your forehead, his touch soft and filled with so much love, "Hongjoong, you've done wonders."
The dressmaker grinned proudly and nodded in agreement, "I know, I always do."
Throughout the journey to the palace, the general found it hard to divert his gaze from you, just as you were captivated by the passing scenery outside. The roads to the palace differed from the usual routes leading to town, explaining your intrigue. As he admired your beautiful face, an unexpected desire surged within him to take you back home and shield you from others' eyes. A sudden uncertainty about wanting anyone else to see you overcame him. A selfish impulse urged him to keep you all to himself.
Before he could entertain the impulsive idea of turning the carriage around, Jongho had already announced their arrival. This time, Eunsook didn't bother to stand by and assist you down, instead waiting expectantly as the general smoothly helped you in one swift movement, determined to keep you close.
Having been here more than enough, Seonghwa knew this place might appear beautiful on the inside but could be very dangerous at the same time. People here might seem nice but rarely could be trusted, particularly the women. Well aware of this, he hesitated to let you wander off alone, despite your status as his wife. You were easily recognisable as Lady Park from a distance, anyone would have to be insane to dare mess with you.
Even so, he had no intention of leaving your side for even a moment. Palace servants passing by bowed deeply at both of you, and you did your best to maintain the poise of a noblewoman as practised with the head maid. The last thing you wanted was to make your husband look bad in here.
As you both approached the hall for the meeting with His and Her Majesty, the royal secretary rushed out to intercept the two of you. Almost as if your husband had jinxed it, San exclaimed, "There you are, General Park! We have a bit of a situation right now. Your immediate presence is required at an emergency meeting."
"But my wife—"
Finally realising you were present, the secretary bowed, "Oh, right, Lady Park! We're all aware you're here to discuss your wedding arrangements, but this really cannot wait. Even His Majesty is currently in this meeting expecting you. Would it be alright if we have your wife waiting by the cherry blossom garden? We'll have the servants prepare her some refreshments."
As much as Seonghwa detested the sudden change of plans, he acknowledged that he was left with no choice upon sensing the urgency in San's demeanour. With a nod of defeat, he agreed, "Okay, fine. Eunsook, please stay by the mistress' side at all times."
She nodded with a bow, "Of course, master."
Turning to you with a regretful frown etched on his brows, he said, "I'm sorry for having to leave you alone, my love. I'll come back to you as quickly as I can, I promise."
You shook your head with an understanding smile, "Don't worry about me, Seonghwa. I'll be fine. Your work is more important. Now hurry and go. Don't make His Majesty wait." Sighing lightly, he pecked you on the head before rushing off with the royal secretary.
"Lady Park, please come with us. We will guide you to the cherry blossom garden."
A team of palace maids appeared before you, showing you as much respect as they would towards royalty. Your status and reputation were well-known nationwide; you were favoured not only by your husband but also by the King and Queen themselves. No one would dare to disrespect you for fear of dire consequences.
Their dedication was evident in the top-tier hospitality as they led you to the enchanting garden, unlike anything you had ever seen. After thanking them politely, they prepared a seat for you in one of the pavilions within the vast garden, serving a tray of tea and some sophisticated-looking snacks.
Boredom eventually set in, and you glanced at one of the palace maids standing ready by the pavilion for any orders you might have for her, "Excuse me, would it be okay for me to take a walk around the garden?"
"Oh, certainly, Lady Park! Feel free to explore the garden as you please. Would you like any of us to accompany you?" Smiling and glancing at Eunsook, you declined, "No, thank you. We'll manage on our own. We won't be gone too long; you have my word."
"Thank you, Lady Park. Your assurance is appreciated; we'll await your return here." They bowed deeply as you and the head maid began your leisurely stroll.
As you wandered through the picturesque garden, marvelling at the vibrant colours of the flowers, you inadvertently caught the eye of a stranger who happened to be nearby. Your beauty, accentuated by the mark on your forehead, captivated the attention of this mysterious figure. What intrigued him even more was the unmistakable childlike innocence reflected in your eyes.
From a distance, he observed you with awe. The way you carried yourself, the genuine delight on your face as you admired the flowers and scenery—it all conveyed a sense of authenticity. Unlike anyone he had encountered, you seemed untouched by pretentiousness or spoiled airs.
Driven by an unexplainable urge to get closer, the stranger slowly made his way towards you, navigating through the enchanting garden. His curiosity was piqued, and he couldn't resist the desire to learn more about the intriguing woman who had captured his attention.
Unaware of the approaching figure as you immersed yourself in the beauty of the flowers, a clearing of the throat behind you signalled his presence. Eunsook, recognising the newcomer, widened her eyes and began to bow, but he gestured for her to remain silent with a finger against his lips and a subtle shake of his head.
Interrupting the tranquillity, the unexpected deep voice spoke, "It's beautiful, isn't it? Do you know what cherry blossoms symbolise?"
Startled, you turned to find a handsome man dressed elegantly, smiling down at you. After a moment of surprise, you nodded, "I do. I've read that they symbolise purity and beauty."
The man acknowledged, "That's right, much like you, my lady."
Concern flickered in the head maid's eyes, realising that the stranger might be unaware of your identity and possibly attempting to make a romantic gesture. Before matters could escalate, she decided to intervene, "Allow me to express our deepest respect, Your Highness. This is Lady Park, the esteemed wife of General Park. Mistress, may I present to you Prince Yeosang."
« Preview of Part 12 »
Seonghwa's eyes widened as they approached the War and Strategy Department building, where soldiers were marching about hastily, "Wait a minute, don't tell me—"
The royal secretary had no time to explain as he pulled the general into the meeting room where all military officials were seated and awaiting anxiously. The King, positioned in the middle of the room, sighed deeply upon noticing your husband's arrival.
"You're here, General Park. Is your wife also in the palace?" His Majesty asked, rubbing his head to alleviate an oncoming headache.
Seonghwa nodded in confirmation and inquired, "Yes, she is. She's waiting by the cherry blossom garden as we speak. Now, tell me. What is it? What has happened?"
With regret in his eyes, the King grimaced, "I'm so sorry, my boy. It seems your wedding will have to wait. Relations with the neighbouring nation, Ruhon, have not been very good lately. I fear war is inevitable this time, and... we need you."
Tumblr media
Just wanted to make it clear that Ruhon is a fictional country. I've thought about it and decided it's probably best not to use real places for fear of offending anyone.
As always, thank you for reading and let me know your thoughts! <3

TRIKARANOS is a dramatized narrative based on ancient events following Crassus (and Pompey and Caesar) through the years 87-48 BCE. Intended for an adult audience.
⭐ Trikaranos will always be free to read. In the near future, you’ll have the option to support this comic & my ability to spend time making it (I Am Extremely Fucking Broke And Have Bills To Pay etc etc) through Patreon! currently, I have a tip jar!
⭐ There is no set update schedule (chapters vary in length and will be posted as I finish working on them)
⭐ alternative places to read it (coming soon!)
CREDITS all additional art used are in the public domain, and the specific images used are open access, etc
🍊the first collage panel is combination of: Plate 113: Greeks Battling the Trojans (from Ovid's Metamorphoses), Antonio Tempesta / The Trojans pulling the wooden horse into the city, Giulio Bonasone (after Francesco Primaticcio) / Terracotta hydria displaying Achilles waiting to ambush Triolos and Polyxena 🍊the second collage panel is: The Lictors bringing Brutus the bodies of his Sons, Jacques Louis David / the paint over of Brutus executing is own sons is my own work based on the composition of this relief of Brutus and condemning his sons to death. 🍊I also used my own art: a panel from the Prologue, and my own illustration of Brutus with the bodies of his sons
📖 PREVIOUS CHAPTER | START HERE | ToC (under construction!)
UNDER THE CUT creator’s commentary, ancient citations, whatever else seems relevant. ideally, this is optional! you shouldn’t need the citations for it to make sense as it unfolds since it’s a comic and a story first and foremost, but it’s here if you’re curious about something or want to see where the inspiration is coming from!
I'm so fucking normal about Crassus and his family (<<< this is a lie)
Marcus Crassus was the son of a man who had been censor and had enjoyed a triumph; but he was reared in a small house with two brothers. His brothers were married while their parents were still alive, and all shared the same table, which seems to have been the chief reason why Crassus was temperate and moderate in his manner of life. When one of his brothers died, Crassus took the widow to wife, and had his children by her, and in these relations also he lived as well-ordered a life as any Roman.
Plutarch, Crassus
like, it actively fucks me up that this is something that's survived about him for over 2,000 years. they all ate together at the same table. Jesus Christ.
so! Crassus' dad! Publius Licinius Crassus (consul 97) fought on the side of Cn. Octavius (consul 87) in the Bellum Octavianum, and it didn't go great for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crassus: A Political Biography, B.A. Marshall
also. currently, if you look Publius Licinius Crassus up on wikipedia for an overview, his page lists his son (and also my main character for this comic) with the cognomen Dives, which is in-fucking-correct.
Tumblr media
Marcus Crassus and the Late Roman Republic, Allen Mason Ward
and to circle back to houses and meals shared with family, some citations that made me feel some kind of way when I read them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marcus Crassus and the Late Roman Republic, Allen Mason Ward
finally, there is discourse or whatever on the placement of the sons of Publius Licinius Crassus. Crassus is the baby brother here simply because I'm writing this story and I get to pick the themes, but also because no one has provided a solid enough argument for him being the second eldest son that I'm willing to buy into with enthusiasm, and I'm more inclined towards G. Sampson's conclusion on the matter.

Defeat of Rome: Crassus, Carrhae, and the Invasion of the East, Gareth C. Sampson
and while I'm just kind of talking about stuff that I read that I enjoyed, this article by Martin Stone lives in my head rent free

*ahem* Yandere Alec & Jane x Reader
Think about it,
When Bella goes to save Edward from the Volturi, Reader comes along to make sure their older sister Bella goes home alive only to make first contact with Jane.
Jane would be the quiet yet protective Yandere type, meaning when Jane first felt the bond she instantly wants the Reader close to her.
As Jane tells Bella, Edward, Alice and Reader to follow her with Felix and Demitri behind them(of course Jane makes sure to hold on to the Readers wrist lightly but strong enough)
Soon the group is in the throne room, Alec soon feels the same type of bond just like Jane and looks at Reader with hungry eyes.
Alex is the type of yandere that gets jealous easily and just wants to keep the reader locked up in a room.
Soon both siblings are on each of the readers side being protective and clingy, holding onto their hand and arms for recurrence and security.
Of course the reader is not used to it and gets freaked out and tries to get close to their older sister Bella, Bella doing the same thing by trying to reach out to the reader.
But the reader gets pulled back from Bella and has been forced to stay by the Volturi and the siblings FOREVER.
Ah yes now you’re talking my love language, who doesn’t just love them an unhinged partner

✭ pairing : yandere jane volturi x reader x yandere alec volturi
✭ fandom : twilight x reader
✭ summary : the moment she made a contact with the twins she should’ve known that her fate was sealed
✭ authors note : I don’t know what it is about having a unhinged partner, but I find it oddly romantic . Like for an example I have been dating my current boyfriend for almost a year now and only recently I would say a couple of months back. He told me that he was going to look up my location and come to my house after I did not respond to him for the first few days of us talking, we were not dating in the beginning, obviously so the fact that this man was going to somehow get access to my location whew gurl, this man got me down bad

The evening had settled in, casting long shadows as Bella Swan sat in her room, her thoughts consumed by worry for Edward. She had barely spoken to him since he left, and the emptiness was overwhelming. Just then, a light knock on her window startled her, and she turned to find Alice Cullen perched on the windowsill, her golden eyes filled with urgency.
"Bella," Alice began, her voice laced with concern, "we need to talk."
Bella's heart raced as she sat up straighter. "What is it, Alice?"
"It's Edward," Alice said, her voice steady yet grave. "He's planning to expose himself to humans—to reveal his true nature—in order to provoke the Volturi into killing him."
The words struck Bella like a physical blow. Her mind raced, unable to comprehend what she had just heard. "No, he can't be serious," Bella whispered, her voice trembling.
Alice's expression was somber. "He believes it's the only way to keep you and your family safe from the Volturi's attention."
Tears welled in Bella's eyes as the gravity of the situation settled in. "I have to stop him," she said, her voice determined.
Alice nodded in agreement. "I'm coming with you."
As Bella stood, her gaze locked onto the window, and she realized that someone else was listening. Turning, she saw her younger sister, (y/n), standing at the door, her expression a mix of concern and determination.
"(Y/n), what are you doing here?" Bella asked, surprised yet touched by her sister's presence.
"I heard everything," (y/n) replied, her voice steady. "And I'm coming too."
Bella's heart swelled with a mixture of pride and worry. "(Y/n), this is dangerous. I can't let you get involved."
(Y/n) stepped forward, her eyes unwavering. "Bella, you're my sister. I can't just sit back while you face this alone."
Alice's lips curled into a small smile. "She's right, Bella. We're all in this together."
Bella hesitated, torn between her protective instincts and the realization that her family's bond was unbreakable. Finally, she nodded. "Fine, you can come. But promise me you'll stay close and follow my lead."
(Y/n) nodded, determination gleaming in her eyes. "I promise."
With the decision made, the three of them exchanged a look that held a mixture of worry and resolve. The bond between sisters ran deep, and their determination to protect each other was unyielding.
As they stepped out of the house, ready to face the perilous journey ahead, Bella knew that no matter what challenges they encountered, they would face them together. The unbreakable bond between sisters would guide them through the darkness, giving them the strength to save the ones they loved, even if it meant facing the Volturi themselves.
As Bella, Alice, and (y/n) approached the Volturi chamber, a tense atmosphere hung in the air. Shadows danced across the walls, and the weight of their purpose settled heavily upon them. Just as they were about to enter, a trio of figures appeared, drawing their attention.
Jane, Demetri, and Felix materialized before them, their presence both unsettling and foreboding. (Y/n) sensed the intensity of the situation, her instincts on high alert. Her gaze locked with Jane's, and a strange shiver ran down her spine. Unbeknownst to her, Jane's connection to (y/n) ran deep, fueled by the intense bond of mates.
Demetri's voice cut through the air, his tone respectful yet firm. "The kings are awaiting your presence. Follow us."
Bella exchanged a wary glance with Alice, a silent acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation. With a nod, they followed Demetri and Felix, their steps echoing in the dimly lit corridor. The tension was palpable, and (y/n)'s heart raced as they moved closer to their destination.
As they entered the chamber, (y/n) felt a shiver run down her spine once more. The Volturi kings sat upon their thrones, exuding an air of authority and power. Aro, Caius, and Marcus regarded them with interest, their eyes glinting with curiosity as they took in the unexpected guests.
"(Y/n) Swan and Bella Swan," Aro's voice rang out, his tone laced with intrigue. "A pleasure to have you with us."
(Y/n)'s and her sister Bella’s eyes widened, taken aback by Aro's direct acknowledgment of her presence. They offered a tentative nod, voices momentarily caught in their throat.
“So tell me, why have you come here? Why do two humans and one vampire stand before us?” Aro questions obviously amused with the whole situation.
As the conversation with the Volturi kings continued, (y/n) felt a strange sensation wash over her. The intensity of Alec's gaze upon her didn't go unnoticed. Unbeknownst to her, the same bond that had sparked between her and Jane had also formed with Alec, albeit with different implications.
Alec's eyes, hungry and possessive, trailed over (y/n) as if she were the only thing in the room. An invisible thread connected them, a connection that (y/n) couldn't comprehend. Her heart quickened under his gaze, an unfamiliar heat blooming within her.
As the conversation continued, (y/n) found herself shifting uncomfortably under the weight of Alec's gaze, a sense of unease settling in the pit of her stomach. Soon before she knew it Alec and Jane were standing before her, they clinged to her every being allowing no room for others to touch or even get near her.
Their presence was suffocating .
(Y/n)'s world had become a whirlwind of confusion and unease. She felt like a puppet, caught between the possessive affections of Alec and Jane on one side and the protective concern of Bella on the other. It was suffocating, overwhelming, and completely foreign to her.
As (y/n) attempted to navigate through the tense atmosphere, her heart rate quickened. Alec and Jane were by her side, their grip on her hand and arms feeling like a constant reminder of their presence. The clinginess and possessiveness made her uncomfortable, and she found herself longing for a moment of solitude.
Bella's attempts to reach out to her were a lifeline in this sea of intensity. She wanted to cling to her sister, the familiar bond between them offering a semblance of normalcy. But every time she tried to get closer to Bella, Alec and Jane would pull her back, their possessive gestures preventing her from seeking comfort in her older sister's arms.
Torn between the conflicting desires of those around her, (y/n) felt trapped. She wanted to be with Bella, to find solace in her sister's embrace, but Alec and Jane's hold on her was unyielding.
Then, the announcement from Marcus changed everything. His words echoed in the chamber, declaring that (y/n) was Alec and Jane's mate. The shock and realization of what that meant sent tremors through her. It was a bond she didn't understand, a connection that both terrified and intrigued her.
As the truth sank in, the weight of her circumstances settled on her shoulders. Aro, always the master manipulator, took advantage of the situation. He presented Bella and Alice with an unfair deal, Edward's life in exchange for (y/n)'s captivity among the Volturi.
The decision was left to (y/n), and despite the unease and discomfort, she found herself speaking up. "Agree to the deal," she told Bella and Alice, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her. "I'll be fine. You have to save Edward."
It was a sacrifice that she never thought she would have to make, but (y/n) was determined to protect her loved ones, no matter the cost. As the deal was settled, (y/n) felt a mixture of fear and determination coursing through her veins. Her life had taken an unexpected turn, and now she had to face an uncertain future, bound to two yandere vampires who held an inexplicable claim over her heart and soul.

27 ASKS!! AAA THANK YOU!! :DDD
Tumblr media
Good question! :0 The Glamrocks would be quite creeped out. And actually, so would the sister location gang!
What I had in mind for my circus gang was that their face plates are not meant to move around to make them look more life like. They have the face plates for easy repair, replacement, cosmetic changes, and easy access to the endoskeleton if needed. When the animatronic is active, the faceplates are locked up tight and are not meant to open while the animatronic is active. Again, its just for easy repair and replacements.
So since the animatronics are not meant to move their plates, if one of them looked in a mirror and their face plates moved or opened.? They'd freak out! That's not meant to open! I must be broken! And they'd run to an employee for help <XD
Tumblr media
NOOOO NOT THE BEAM ATTACK--
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe! :0 I haven't thought that part of the story through but I wouldn't be against that idea!
Tumblr media
Funny how you say that when recently Browns headlights went out. Yeah he really does need glasses XDD
(He's fixed now btw don't worry👍)
Tumblr media
She wasn't intended to have much of a role in the AU, considering Mario and Luigi are the only humans in the mushroom kingdoms dimension..
Maybe she could have been a childhood friend that they knew? Maybe she was their next door neighbor? Or perhaps a customer of theirs? What ever role she had in their lives back on Earth, it wasn't meant to be significant enough to remember/miss her..
Tumblr media
@thebranflakescereal
The sister location gang? Prooobaly Circus Baby, with Funtime Freddy as a close second.
The Glamrock gang? Probably the daycare attendant XDD
Tumblr media
@neo-metalscottic (Post in question)
AAAA THANK YOU SO MUCH!! :DD I'm so glad you liked my designs! And I'm also glad that my more mellow "go with the flow" vibe for Freddy was seen! That's what I was aiming for! :DD
As for the map bot question, yes! The beloved map bot is alive and well <XDD He's not a threat to Gregory currently and he thankfully doesn't bother the main cast much. He just hangs around until he sees someone in need of a map! XD
Tumblr media
@ghfhgkfngjvfnvmfkf
Hmm,, good question. I think if Funtime Freddy was decommissioned but they kept the Bon's around?.. They wouldn't put the bons with Circus Baby or Ballora becuase they'd be out of place. Ballora and the reenas are humanoid. They're pretty, delicate, and are ballerinas. Circus Baby, Ennard and the Bidybabs are all humanoid as well and clown themed. With specific color palettes and a clown performance.
What they'd probably do is put them with Funtime Foxy and just expand his act to accommodate for the extra people. They'd make Foxy a magician/ringmaster and somehow incorporate the Bons into his act. Since him, Chica and the Bons are all animals it would fit better.
Tumblr media
You can just put it in a paint program and white out all the characters like I did. :0
Tumblr media
I did keep some of Jevil's powers from the game yeah. :0 But I've altered almost all of them in some way-
In the Grillby fight he's seen "teleporting" to avoid Grillby's attacks. I believe I saw a gif of Jevil teleporting and there looked to be a motion blur effect..? So I interpreted that as he doesn't necessarily disappear and reappear...? More he just moves incredibly fast.
Tumblr media
He miiight be able to turn into the scythe.? But I've mostly just interpreted that as he is able to summon a scythe to his hands when ever he may need it. I haven't made use of the cloning ability because, well, I didn't know he could do that- <XDD I'll definitely have to add that though!
For Goner kid I'm not too sure.. my version has her as Monster kids little sister. And I've seen a lot of interpretations of MK having fire breathing powers. Maybe she has fire related powers too..? Either way, it'll take a long time for her to remember the powers she has, and even longer to learn how to control them. So as it stands right now she's pretty defenseless..
Spamton is supposed to have most/all of the powers that original Spamton does in the game. But his attacks are kind'a.. broken. Spamton's physical injuries leaked down into his very soul and cracked it. So all of his attacks are messed up. I'd have to do some research on what his attacks actually are, and then make them broken if he ever tries to use them.
Like for example, 2/3 projectiles he summons will fly off in the wrong direction. Any weapons that he summons will have bent handles and break easy.. stuff like that :(
Tumblr media
I've heard about that power, but as far as I know Mario and Luigi just kind'a.. have that power naturally.? While in my AU, all the bros power come exclusively from powerups. If there was a Firebrand mushroom and a thunderhand flower? Sure! But if its something they can just do without any powerup assistance, then it wont fit into my AU.. :/
Tumblr media
(Video in question)
XDD I can see that happening to Shellington and Kwazii
Tumblr media
With DJ, Sun and Moon? Its very possible XDD
Tumblr media
I think they'd get a long great! My version of Funtime Freddy is toned down a bit compared to canon Funtime <XD No crazy, "HEY BAWN BAWN!!"
Tumblr media
(Post in question)
Yes! Even though he has nothing to do with sister location (as far as I can remember--) I've still thought about adding him in some kind of cryptic way.. 👀
Tumblr media
@clockworkthenightbard
Tumblr media
Thank you so much!! :DD
Tumblr media
@khoiazo
AKASNSWNDEO TRAUMATIZED XDDD
Tumblr media
Nope! They're all very colorful and sparkly, but they are not intended to be Glamrocks. :}
Tumblr media
@minnesotamedic186
Yoooo that's a good idea! I'll have to at least do something with the Electrobab XD
Tumblr media
@milk-powrit (Post in question)
Thank you!! :DD I cant fully retrace my thought process- But I believe I wanted to make the Minireenas not scary. So I gave them cute faces and dresses. But I thought that having all these tiny little doll girls running around might feel a bit creepy to little kids..
So I thought hey! What if I slap some wings on them and make them fly around like fairies?? And to make them even less scary, I can make them look like familiar bugs that kids like! Lady bug, butterfly, bumble bee, dragon fly... and then I thiiiink I designed Ballora after.? Or maybe Ballora being based on a butterfly was what first inspired me.?
Either way- Ballora is based on a Blue Morpho butterfly! Very pretty :}}
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@bunny-coffee
Sorry, I don't take requests! But that's not a bad idea.. 🤔 Maybe someday XD
Tumblr media
@astrokea
Tumblr media
Awe, thank you!! :DD I'm glad you like what I make!! :}}
Tumblr media
@beryl-shade
Jevil and Seam do not reveal their injuries to anyone unless they absolutely have to. And when they do, yeah its only to each other..
Like for example; if Seams eye socket started to hurt and it needed to be looked at/tended to. Seam would only feel comfortable having it tended to by Jevil. But the whole time he'd still be incredibly uncomfortable and would cover it back up as soon as he could..
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if I've answered this ask before and forgot to delete it, or if its an old ask that got buried and I never answered it at all-- either way!--
Yeah, Jevil would be pretty spooked by his original counterpart. Because original Jevil is clearly insane.. But he'd also feel kind'a bad for his original.. he's still trapped in a cell..
Seam is definitely envious of his original. He thinks his original got off easy. He doesn't even have shackles. And his stitched mouth doesn't seem to bother him..
My Goner kid arguably has it better than the original. Considering the original is still lost in the void somewhere..
And I intended for Grillby to encounter another version of him. Maybe not the original, but at least another version. He saw his other self with his daughter.. it was really hard for him..
Tumblr media
@luna-purple454 @elegysonnet (Post in question)
Sorry for the late reply you three! I was intending to draw a comic for this but I never got around to it.. haha,, <:D ..anyways-
What ends up happening is Papyrus offers to help. Seam is scared out of his mind but he ends up taking Papyrus' offer.
Papyrus picks up Jevil and helps Seam stand up. They make their way out of the dying forest, stepping over fallen trees and branches. All the while Papyrus is talking to Seam. "What's your name? Where are you from?" Seam tells him their names but that's about all he can manage to say through his trembling..
All the while they're walking something just.. feels really off. Why are all the trees and grass dead? Why is it so warm around here? Seam is sure he's seen this place before in other AUs. Isn't there supposed to be snow on the ground?
Eventually they make their way into snowdin. Seam was so stressed that he didn't really take the time to scan his surroundings. Although he did notice that they were walking through snow now. They get to Papyrus' house and walk inside.
The house is lit by candles, and all the lights are off. Seam and Jevil are put on the couch, Papyrus goes into the kitchen to make some soup for them to eat.
This when things takes a horrifying turn. While anxiously waiting for Jevil to wake up, Seam looks out the window..
The snow outside isn't like a blanket of snow. Rather its gathered in big piles. The big lumps of wispy snow cover the ground in front of the houses, but don't go into the forest and it isn't on any of the trees..
And then he notices.. there's children's shoes and coats buried in the.. "snow"..
Seam is a darkener, so he does not turn to dust when he dies. But he knows that AU's that have a snowdin town in it.. the monster's there turn to dust when they die.
There are mountains of bodies outside. What happened here? Who killed all those people? Thats why there's no power to the house isn't it? That's why its so warm, that's why all the trees are dead. The people who man the core are all dead. Everyone in this AU is dead, everything is dead. But who killed them? What happened?
..Did Papyrus....?
Horror washes over Seam. It was Papyrus wasn't it. He killed all those people. And now Seam is in Papyrus' house. He doesn't have the strength to get up, he cant run- he cant escape-
Its in that moment of pure dread.. that Jevil started to stir, and Papyrus walked back in..

Hazbin Hotel: Alastor and Husk Theories
This is nothing serious. Just me thinking about what the exact deal that went down between Alastor and Husk is. We know that Husk used to be an overlord, and that he made some kind of deal with Alastor related to being an overlord and gambling that led to his current state of being powerless and completely under Alastor's control. We never really saw how powerful he was as an Overlord, but getting that title isn't something you do if you're a light weight so he had to once command considerable influence and power before meeting Alastor and gambling away all souls owned before losing his own soul in a deal with Alastor. As far as I can tell the only clue we're given to the exact nature of the deal beyond gambling being involved is him singing in Loser Baby "I sold my soul just to keep my power." Implying it was some attempt to keep his power and possibly status as an Overlord. But obviously, that didn't happen considering he commands no noticeable amount of power or respect now.
So I've got three theories.
Theory 1: Husk was tricked. He thought he was making a deal that would retain his power, but it wound up robbing him of everything because he didn't properly understand the terms. It does seem like Alastor is very good at entrapping people in deals to the point Charlie is warned and believes she can't make any deals with Alastor whatsoever because it's likely to be a trap of some kind, so entrapping people seems to be his normal thing.
Theory 2: Husk made a deal and understood the terms, that he did get to keep his overlord powers from it. BUT! Now because Alastor owns his soul he's under orders that he can't disobey to not use his powers and can only ever use them if Alastor gives him the ok first, forcing him to currently live as if he had no power at all.
Addendum to Theory 2: Might have powers related to gambling that allow him to win, based on the cheater note in Loser Baby song, he might still have access to gambling based powers based on the fact he was winning big in the pilot before Alastor showed up.
Theory 3: This is currently the theory, that were I a betting man I would bet is the correct one. Alastor challenged Husk to gambling for souls, Husk being an expert gambler agreed, but Alastor beat him at his own game. When Husk had lost all the souls under his domain, Alastor offered him and all or nothing round where Husk would bet his own soul. Overconfident in his own gambling abilities and his addiction to it, he couldn't resist such a bet that if he won would let him take everything, and accepted a deal to gamble his own soul for the souls he lost and possibly souls Alastor had as well. Lost the gamble, meaning by the terms of the deal his soul belonged to Alastor and he had now lost everything and that's why he has no powers now despite having made a deal to keep his power.
Additional Note on Theory 3: Losing his soul may have saved Husk's life. What did Alastor do? Topple a bunch of overlords and take all their power. This makes Husk yet another Overlord Alastor tackled. Alastor gained some attachment to Husk, and thinks fondly of him, albeit in the terms that someone thinks of a favorite pet, and so instead of killing Husk and broadcasting his screams like the other enslaved him instead. Alternatively, other Overlords were smart enough not to accept a deal that would cost them their soul and then Alastor just killed them instead since there was nothing more to be gained from leaving them alive.
Husk's current situation may suck but there's a pretty high chance if Alastor hadn't gotten complete control over him the radio demon would have killed him again cosigning Husk to oblivion.
I also think Husk is the only person we've seen Alastor use a pet name with, calling him Husker. Which might show him having some attachment to Husk, but not in any way anyone would like. Well, there are probably a few people out there who would enjoy being in Alastor's power. but you get what I mean.

Nomin tal Kheeriin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
B A S I C S
Name: Nomin tal Kheeriin
Nicknames: Minmin (close friends from the Steppe), Moonlight (rare instances from Estinien)
Age: Twenty and seven summers (Endwalker)
Nameday: 28th Sun of the Fourth Astral Moon (actual DOB); 21st Sun of the Second Umbral Moon (start of her tenth summer Tsaagan Sar; when she freed herself from her binds and gave herself her name)
Race: Xaela Au Ra
Gender: Demigirl
Orientation: Demi/Demi
Profession: Reluctant Adventurer, willing Warrior of Light; Painter
P H Y S I C A L     A S P E C T S
Hair: Long and naturally straight. Often, Nomin's hair is seen as wavy, though due to frequently braiding it, her hair often retains a wave to it. It is a light blue in color, and is kind of oily looking on most days -- this is due to her traveling a lot. However, when she has access to amenities, she takes just as good care of her hair as she does her scales.
Eyes: Teal with aquamarine limbal rings and black sclera.
Skin: Muted ultramarine with inky black scales that bear cerulean striations and markings.
Tattoos/scars: Nomin has no tattoos and has no intention of ever getting any. Scars, on the other hand, she has several of. There are two big ones I don't draw currently just due to not really knowing how to go about it just yet. Regardless, Nomin has two large slashes on her back that have stunted the growth of scales within that region. She has two relatively deep arrow pock scars in her left shoulder and lower left abdomen. The scars I don't draw (yet) are relatively large aetherial burn scars that go from her hands all the way up around her elbows -- maybe a little past it -- from helping tear the Eyes of Nidhogg from Estinien. She has matching scars with Alphinaud in that regard in how I've planned my writing.
F A M I L Y
Parents: Somewhere among the Tumet. Dead? Alive? Who knows. Nomin doesn't really care. And not in a malicious way, she just... They don't occupy her mind. They don't matter to her. Later in Heavensward, she does start to see Edmont akin to a father-like figure.
Siblings: Adoptive. Nomin's siblings are Esenaij and Bayarmaa of the Sagahl. Later in Heavensward, after hearing that Haurchefant considered her like a sister, she warms up to the idea of Artoirel and Emmanellain being brother-like figures to her.
Grandparents: Nomin is sure she has some! But she's really not too interested in delving into her family history when it comes to that of the Tumet.
In-laws and Other: I suppose Alberic is more or less something of a father-in-law. I haven't really written too much, but I'd like to explore more of Nomin's dynamic with him. I think she gets along well enough with him, and is glad that he and Estinien were able to bury the hatchet.
Nomin also has three children with Estinien in some timeline or another. It's separated from the main stuff to kind of adjust it as needed. All their children have two names -- one of Steppe origin, and one of Coerthan/Ishgardian origin. Their first kids were twin girls, Bayarmaa/Cyrielle and Chotan/Fleurette Varlineau. Twelve years later, they have their son, Esenaij/Hamignant Varlineau. They all tend to prefer using their Coerthan/Ishgardian names over their Steppe names.
Pets: Mori - a horse earned from her time in the Jhungid; he is one of Nomin's most stalwart companions, and she cares for him deeply. Gürvel - a frilled lizard that was intent on stealing some of Nomin's vilekin; through a mutual understanding, they became buddies on the Steppe.
S K I L L S
Abilities: Painting; it's a hobby she picked up since she often drew in the dirt when she had nothing in the Tumet. When her adoptive sister, Bayarmaa, had been more than happy to go ahead and help teach her, Nomin was quick to pick up on it. She now paints gorgeous landscapes and sceneries -- she can even paint them from her mind's eye, often able to remember them in vivid detail. She does like having the actual thing in front of her, though.
Archery; Nomin had several teachers that helped with her archery and in giving her tips on how to hone her abilities. She has a keen eye and a steady aim that rivals even some of the best of the Dazkar hunters.
Survival; one doesn't just simply run away from their oppressors and start roaming the Steppe without picking up some things and learning how to thrive off of the land. Thanks also to the teachings of the Sagahl and their way of life, Nomin is very aware of stuff on the Steppe, and is more than willing to learn when she goes to new places so that she can take care of herself using what the land provides.
Hobbies: Painting, reading, gardening. There are also some board games that Nomin likes. She's actually quite fond of shatar and chess, though she feels like she could still never play kharaqiq properly.
T R A I T S
Most Positive Trait: Her ability to get back up again. There are so many things that have knocked her down, or brought her to her knees, but Nomin is just too stubborn to stay there. She freed herself from her binds when she was ten summers, and she is not going to let that moment be in vain.
Most Negative Trait: Shutting people out. Nomin's very kept to herself, and with her past trauma, she just doesn't really want to involve a lot of people too deeply into her life. She keeps people at arm's length for a long time, and preferred it that way for a good portion of her time since escaping the Jhungid. Even if her Echo could help give her some insight on who to trust and who not to trust.
L I K E S
Colors: Pink and gold.
Smells: Plums, fried dough, wood musk (pine, spruce, and cedar more specifically), chocolate.
Textures: Polished wood, sand, porous volcanic rock, Angura fleece.
Drinks: Suutei tsai, chatsarganii shuus, orange juice, hot cocoa.
O T H E R    D E T A I L S
Smokes: Nope...
Drinks: Only sometimes, but she does not really prefer it. Especially since the first time she drank wine, she was drugged.
Drugs: Depends on the drug. Medicinal is fine.
Mount Issuance: Nomin was not given one from a Grand Company, as she did not join one. She didn't like the idea of joining one because it was the 'thing to do.' She has Mori, and she rode him illegally throughout Eorzea regardless. She found it silly that she would need a permit of any kind to actually travel more quickly. However, with three signatures from Kan-E-Senna, Nanamo Ul Namo, and Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn after her varying feats, uh...her illegal riding became legal.
Been Arrested: I mean, can you technically count the necessary trial by combat thing in Ishgard? I feel like that should count, to be honest.

Question since I really love your comics: How did Scroop join adult Jim's crew and why did he accept?
After his fight with Jim, Scroop was carried away by a cosmic current and weeks later an acturian ship found him barely alive. Since this nation has a very strickt law against pirates, Scroop is sent into one of the arcturian prisons. He spends 5 years here, since the arcturian law dictates, that his EVERY crime must be brought up against him on trial. That way they can call it a fair execution.
During these 5 years, Jim makes a name for himself, graduating the Navy academy and taking part in the Battle of Procyon. He becomes a war hero and he can have his own ship, which he names the "Solar Fire". As he becomes a captain of the Navy, he gets access to their databanks. With a little light of curiosity and wanting some closure, he tries to look up what happened to his father. He learns, that he was part of an expedition, trying to map an uncharted sector of space. The place is called the Scyllian Nebula and is famous about not being mapped, because all tech fails in the cosmic cloud. Nobody knows, what's on the other side, since no ship ever came back. Jim's father disappeared with the last ship going in.
So... Jim just can't help himself and wants to find out, what happened to him. He assembles a very specific crew of individuals the Navy is not too fond of having under their flag and doesn't mind if they disappear. However they do care about the ship and Jim, so the Admirals only allow the expedition, if Jim recruits someone at least vaguely familiar with the way to the nebula. And Scroop is one of three people in the Etherium, who knows that region. The moment Jim sees his name on the list... he just accepts it as fate and rolls with it. Thanks to his heroic efforts as captain, the arcturians release Scroop into his custody.
Of course, Scroop tries to escape immediatelly, but then he faces Jim's crew. And this is the moment this crew starts to shine, since any of them could take on Scroop individually, anytime. They are all dangerous and has their little quirks. Scroop and Jim eventually make a pact, that he won't escape until they reach the destination. Jim also promises him freedom and even some money to start anew, so Scroop accepts. Thou he starts to wonder, what to do with that freedom and money, since he really wants nothing. He tries to avoid the crew, but they are not stopping including him, so... eventually he just accepts them.

of firefighters and french toast rating: G | word count: 2k
the one where dr. salazar and eddie's will lawyer are best friends (disclaimer, patient/client confidentiality? nonexistent for story telling purposes. pls ignore <3)
Aline Salazar didn’t often spend much time thinking about her patients. She went to work, took care of people’s hearts, sent them back into the real world, and when she went back home she made sure to leave all of their life stories in the hospital. It wasn’t a weight she needed to carry.
If she let herself get dragged down into the heart problems of Los Angeles, she’d drown.
So she does a good job at separating it. She has her wife at home, her two girls, and a small black cat that likes to curl around her ankles when she walks through the front door. She has her life at work, her coworkers that drive her up the wall a little bit but who she’s secretly incredibly fond of, and the secret stash of Reese’s peanut butter cups that she keeps in her office.
But she has to admit: the men of the 118 tend to linger in her mind.
The women, too. Hen’s well known. Badass paramedic who’s performed some tricky operations in the back of a moving ambulance. Aline’s heard the stories.
She’s never been in her office, though. Hen’s heart seems to be relatively intact.
Aline knocks on wood, just to be safe. The 118’s been through enough, they don’t need to send yet another member of their team to her. Keep them on the other side of the hospital doors; Aline’s starting to worry.
It’s Eddie that she thinks about most. Or, not most, but he’s crossed her mind more than once. Especially after Buckley got brought in after being struck by lightning, and one of the new doctors was complaining that Diaz was yelling at them as they wheeled him through the hospital doors.
Aline didn’t snort, because that feels a little rude and dismissive, and she does her best to not be either of those things, but…
It’s Buckley and Diaz. She’s seen them on the news—hell, she’s pretty sure most of Los Angeles has. They’re not celebrities or famous, but really (unless you count hospital fame, because, seriously, how are these men not dead yet?), but Eddie got shot in front of Buck. The video of Buck throwing him over his shoulder has just under a million views.
Honestly, Aline doesn’t know how she didn’t recognize him when he came in for his panic attack.
It was probably the girlfriend that threw her off. To be fair, the girlfriend seemed to be throwing Eddie off, too.
And, yeah, that’s the reason he’s stuck with her more than most.
She shakes her head. The only reason they’re even on her mind is because Evan Buckley just left her office. Because the man got struck by lightning.
Seriously, she can’t tell if God or the universe or whoever wants the 118 alive or dead. If it’s alive, they’ve sure got a twisted way of showing it. It’s getting to the point where, if Aline didn’t literally have access to their medical files, she’d probably assume they were supernatural at this point.
Currently, she’s in her car, on her way to meet up with her best friend for Monthly Mandatory Monday. It’s something Melanie came up with when, during her time in med school, they went almost six months without seeing each other, despite living in the same city. Melanie, her best friend since high school, decided that was unacceptable.
So now they clear out one Monday every month to get dinner and catch up. They usually see each other more often than that, considering life is finally in a place where it’s a little more settled, but the tradition stuck.
Her phone pings with a text where it’s sitting in the cup holder. She checks it at a red light.
Melanie:
Are you on your way 😁
Aline:
ETA 10 min
She gets a notification that Melanie liked the message, putting her phone away when the light turns green.
It takes her closer to fifteen minutes to get to the restaurant—a little French bistro that’s definitely more suited for brunch, but Melanie’s always insisted that food should not exist within societally constructed time frames, and if she wants berries and french toast for dinner, then she will have them.
Frankly, Aline’s always down for some well made, fluffy, cinnamon-y french toast.
“You, Dr. Salazar, are late.”
“You, Ms. Green, didn’t have any actual clients today.”
Melanie shrugs. “Mondays are paperwork days. I did not realize there would be this much of it.”
“That’s because you didn’t pay attention in class. Pretty sure anyone who goes to law school knows there’s gonna be paperwork involved.”
Melanie, unsurprisingly, has nothing to say to that.
“Anyway, how was your work day today?”
They’re briefly interrupted by a young girl coming by to take their orders. They don’t even need to look at the menu, both of them getting the same thing they get every time they come here.
She comes back with their drinks quickly, telling them with a polite smile that their food will be out shortly.
“As you were saying?” Aline turns back to her friend as the waitress walks away.
“Work? How are the hearts of the citizens of LA doing today?”
Aline chuckles, pouring water from the pitcher the waitress left into a mason jar.
“You remember that firefighter that got struck by lightning? I treated him today.”
Melanie perks up. She’s got an odd fascination with the LAFD.
“I feel like LA has some of the weirdest fire fighting accidents I’ve ever seen. I doubt Montana has this much excitement with their fire department. Just off the top of my head there’s been that weird blimp incident—didn’t realize blimps still existed, by the way—, two years ago all of the animals at the LA zoo were released onto the streets, we had a tsunami. Did you know the last time a tsunami hit the United States was in 1964? In Alaska.”
Aline smiles. “I did not know that.”
“Well, now you do.”
“Tell me about the firefighter. I saw some coverage of it on the news, he looked really familiar.”
“Pretty sure he’s been on television multiple times by now.”
Melanie takes a sip of her spiked lemonade, because her best friend has the alcoholic drink preferences of a high schooler.
“Probably. What about that other guy you saw a while ago? The panic attack one, have you seen him since?”
Aline snorts.
“No, but I’m pretty sure the lightning strike guy is his boyfriend.”
“Wait, didn’t he have a girlfriend?”
Aline nods. The waitress appears with their food, smiling kindly at them before leaving again.
The first bite is perfect, as it always is. The homemade syrup from the berries mixing with the cinnamon-sugar of the french toast is heavenly. She didn’t even realize she was this hungry until the flavors hit her tongue.
“God, this place is so good.”
“I know,” Melanie agrees. “Back to what you were saying?”
“Yeah, he had a girlfriend, but I’m pretty sure his panic attack was because of her? Probably some heavy repression and internalized sexuality issues. Not that I’m speculating about someone’s sexuality, but as a gay person who only realized her sexuality at thirty, I recognized some of his panic.”
“Classic. And he’s dating lightning strike guy?”
“I think? I mean, I’ve seen them at the hospital quite a few times. They always seem very friendly, I guess, for lack of a better term, and I heard through the grapevine that Eddie—panic attack guy—was yelling at the doctors when they brought the other guy in.”
Melanie lights up. “Man, why are Eddie’s so—I don’t know—weird? I have a client, his name’s Eddie, too. Did I ever tell you about him?”
Aline shakes her head no, sitting back in her chair knowing she’s about to get an earful of Melanie’s rambling. They’ve been this way since they met. Aline was shy and quiet, kept to herself. Didn’t know anybody at her new school after moving to LA with her family from Florida.
Melanie saw her first day of Sophomore year. She was loud and bright and hilarious. All over the place and terrible student, but incredibly smart. They sat next to each other in biology. Aline helped her cheat on her exams, Melanie invited her to tag along to games and parties, and they’ve been sort of inseparable since.
And one thing about Melanie that hasn’t changed is that she can talk for hours. Lucky for her, she has a best friend willing to listen.
“Okay, so, this is a few years ago, okay? Setting the scene, it’s—huh. I don’t actually remember what month it was, but it was unusually cold and rainy. This is relevant. This guy came in, he had made an appointment over the phone, and I told him I’d have availability in about two weeks, but he said it was urgent, and that his schedule is unpredictable and asked if I could squeeze him in the next day.”
Aline’s eyebrows raise.
“I know, right? Felt a little rude the way he was so snippy over the phone, but then he comes in and stiltedly spills his entire life story. This guy is, oddly enough, actually, also a firefighter and an army vet, and he’d recently experienced yet another trauma. Remember what I was saying about rain? He’s the guy that got trapped in that well years ago.”
“Oh wow.”
“I could tell it was serious, even though he brushed it off. You don’t go to a lawyer with an impending sense of doom and urgency if what you experienced isn’t serious. Whatever, I didn’t push.”
Aline snorts. She’s not sure there’s a world that exists where Melanie doesn’t push.
“Shut up, asshole.”
She throws her napkin across the table, and lands it firmly in the potted plant beside Aline.
“I didn’t say anything,” Aline says, raising her hands in surrender.
“Your laugh did. Whatever, I didn’t push. I didn’t. This was the cagiest man I’ve ever seen. I had to ask him what he was there to do about three times, because he was so shifty about it.”
“Well. What did he want?” “Okay, more backstory, this man is a widow with a son. He has extended family that he’s supposedly close to, but he wanted me to update his will. So that, in case of emergency—and, seeing as he’s a firefighter, those happen often—, his son would go to his best friend.”
Aline frowns. “Okay? Like a godfather? That’s not that out of the ordinary, is it?”
Melanie grins like Aline just fell for the set up hook, line, and sinker.
“His best friend? Completely unaware. Eddie asked me not to contact him or anything. And when I said you know, he could refuse, this man looked me in the eye for the first time that entire conversation and said with more certainty than I have ever seen anyone possess he won’t. I swooned a little. I hope those two figured it out, honestly.”
“That’s…wow. Yeah, I hope so, too. I’m just glad my Eddie seems to finally be dating Evan. The lightning strike guy. They’ve been through a lot together.”
Melanie pauses, lemonade halfway up to her lips. “Wait. Evan? As in Evan Buckley?”
Aline blinks in confusion. “Yes?”
“Holy shit, I think we’re talking about the same Eddie. Evan Buckley’s the guy in his will. Diaz? Firefighter with the 118?”
Aline throws her head back and laughs. “Yes.”
Melanie raises her glass and waits for Aline to do the same. “To the same idiot firefighters that happen to be paying for both of our bills.”
Aline snorts. “What you said.”
The rest of the dinner passes by too quickly, the way time between them always seems to. They talk about everything; Melanie shows her all the options for birthday gifts for Aline’s oldest daughter, Aline asks what TV she’s watching now because Melanie has the best taste in sitcoms, and it feels like minutes but it’s actually hours by the time they ask for their check and leave.
“See you this weekend, right?” Aline asks.
Melanie scoffs. “As if I’d miss Maia’s birthday. I need to maintain my position as her favorite Tia.”
Aline pulls her in for a hug when they reach the front of the restaurant. Melanie’s already called her uber, and Aline told her wife she’d be home in time for them to watch an episode of Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
“Hey!” Melanie calls out as Aline’s walking away. “If you see Eddie anytime soon, tell him congrats on finally getting it together and telling Buckley.”
Aline laughs. “Will do, Mel.”

Prompt suggestion I loved the grandmas! So Ava's grandmas squad at the wedding maybe? :D
you've been to many, many weddings in your life: your own, the most important; your siblings' and your children's and your grandchildren's, blessing after blessing. most have been fun, and, especially as you get older, you enjoy everyone happily bringing you copious amounts of champagne and an extra slice of cake, dancing with you on rotation.
you've been to so many weddings but, of them all, this might be the most beautiful.
part of it is probably because, as you had discovered, beatrice has more money than god. she's not flashy about spending it; whenever she comes to the country club to have lunch, she's in soft earth tones, but you have been wealthy long enough to notice the clean tailoring and how her hair, especially after she cuts it short — which ava had informed your group of breathlessly one day — is always neat and shiny, her rolex and ring understated but beautiful all the same. it feels, retrospectively, a little like you've gotten to watch them both grow up, and grow into themselves. also, amusingly, you hadn't quite realized how wealthy she was until you'd gone to their home for lunar new year, two years ago, and then you had fully comprehended, with a fair amount of humor, because ava had never mentioned anything and had always been excited and friendly and down to earth, more than happy to spend time with a group of old ladies.
this is also the most beautiful because it's on the beach, and because all of it is designed to be accessible for anyone with mobility aids, even though it's in the sand. everyone has taken their shoes off, and there are flowers everywhere and a small, wooden altar, ornate and subtle, that beatrice and ava stand in front of. there's stephanotis woven into ava's hair, and her dress is all gossamer and lace, small straps over her shoulders and the back dipping low. you've seen her scars almost every week since you'd met, but you've been alive a long time and you know that there's a measure of love that exists in her life — fought for by her; inevitably created by her, you think, too, with her steadfastness and her undeniable charm — that makes those scars just part of this night. part of this love.
beatrice, in a sharp navy suit and a t-shirt tucked in underneath, her slacks rolled up above her ankles, has been crying since she saw ava, sniffling and laughing intermittently, and ava had started to cry while she was saying her own vows. it's a simple ceremony, short and so heartfelt, and angela offers you an ornate embroidered hanky silently when beatrice quietly promises her life to ava; they've invited everyone they love and still she says it like they're the only two people in the world.
at the reception, eventually ava finds you on the dance floor, even though her eyes flit back to beatrice often.
ava smiles at the young man — named keiko, he'd said, one of beatrice's friends from the dojo — currently dancing with you and he kisses her cheek with a laugh when she asks to cut in.
'sorry,' she says, 'if you wanted to keep dancing with him. i will say that he has a very cute boyfriend anyway.'
you laugh. 'i would rather dance with you; it's kind of beatrice to spare you.'
'eh, i have her forever. i wanted to dance with the second most beautiful woman here.'
you laugh. 'she is very, very handsome.'
ava groans. 'i didn't know she was going to wear that jacket. her brother surprised her with it.'
it's gorgeous, maybe one of the most beautiful pieces you've ever seen; angela had gasped quietly when beatrice and ava had walked in, and it had made you laugh around a crostini. 'i've asked all my children and grandchildren this, at their weddings,' you say, and you don't miss the way ava's eyes water immediately, 'are you happy?'
of course, you already know the answer. you've never seen two people happier with each other, more comfortable in and out of each other's orbits together, like you have the two of them. ava reminds you of aaron, you often think, with a pang you've felt for the past seven years — joyful, the entire world a little in awe of them, the delight of knowing that you're the center of their universe overcoming everything else.
'this is the happiest day of my life. i am — it's beyond words.'
it makes you want to cry, but you already have and ava glances over your shoulder with a soft smile, meant for one person only. 'good,' you tell her. 'you will have all the happiness in this life, with the love you've found.'
'it feels like a miracle.' she looks at the ring on her finger, elegant; perfect for her and her constant motion, inlaid with diamonds.
'it is a miracle,' you say. 'a blessing, a love like yours.'
'ruth, i really can't cry again.' you laugh. 'but — yes. i've loved her before, many times, i think. in one way or the other.'
she says it like there's only truth to it; certainty. without doubt. faith. maybe you will be young again; maybe you will meet aaron in some other form and build another life, blessings greater than the stars. beatrice's hair falls into her eyes and she dances with her niece and nephew. 'i believe you have.'
ava smiles. 'thank you for coming, and for the dance.'
you hug her, hold her to you for a moment, one of your favorite people in the world. a slow song starts and you spin her by the hips. 'go dance with your wife.'
she melts a little, a grin on her face. 'yeah,' she says, 'my wife.'
the party goes late, the joy overflowing. beatrice looks asleep on her feet when you leave but you hug her too, with her beautiful jacket and eyes that are always only ever for ava.
'thank you for coming,' she says, hugging you tight, 'and for being so wonderful to ava, and to me.'
'congratulations, on an undoubtedly beautiful life. thank you for letting me be in it.'
she nods, her smile gentle. you find angela and head to her car; thank god she can still competently drive at night.
'burgers?' you ask, and she laughs.
'didn't we eat so much food?'
you shrug. 'milkshakes, at least?'
'you are a terrible influence,' she says, but she grins and drives toward in n out and she's your best friend. another blessing, in this life, another love.
'i'm glad we've lived long enough to see that wedding.'
'don't call us old.'
'what was your favorite part.'
angela smiles, gently, bathed in the streetlights while you wait at an intersection. 'their vows, of course.'
in this life, and the next and the next, you remember. 'they mean them.'
'yes,' angela says. 'more than anyone i've ever met.'
'our grandchildren.'
angela laughs. 'a good night.'
she caves and orders herself a cheeseburger too, and then drives to the beach. you can't sit on her trunk anymore but you roll the windows down and it counts, this life and the next, all the same.

One aspect that utterly crushed me when Seeing Stars came out was it ruined my Headcanon of the Grimoire being sentient and that it would communicate with Octavia directly.
It basically started back in Loo Loo Land where in the flashback Stolas waves the book in but his hand isn't glowing it's just the book (and in all the media I've seen when someone uses telekinesis both the user's hand and the object would glow, there are exceptions of course but alive objects already exist in both Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss)
I assumed the episode would be about Octavia going to Earth because Stolas is busy being selfish, the Grimoire would act as her mentor.
Hell there might even be a piece of the OG Stolas's soul inside that tries to help Octavia out as they explore Earth and what her responsibilities and abilities are. He has an avatar he projects onto, and he tells her how she'll help rebuild Hell after Heaven invades for the final time (a callback to Stolas's Lullaby that talks about an apocalypse and how Octavia will live)
OG Stolas also looks like his original description; just a regular ol owl with long legs (but hides them)
OG realizes that current Shit Stolas has not taught her anything and is enraged by his negligence.
Meanwhile Luna is sent to find Octavia as Stolas and I.M.P are busy.
Luna finally catches up with Octavia and tries to convince her to come back home but Octavia refuses since she needs to finish her duties.
I.M.P and Stolas show up and Stolas does his whole fake promise thing.
OG Stolas bursts from the book and cusses him out for being irresponsible on both parenting and his duties, his "deal" with Blitz disgusts him, and his overall childish behavior disappoints him and his ancestors.
It ends with OG Stolas placing a curse on Shit Stolas saying that his powers, his legions, and his possessions will be taken away and that the Grimoire will only be accessible to Octavia and no one else.
So the rest of the season follows with Stolas succumbing to bad luck and I.M.P trying to find alternative ways to keep business afloat while Octavia throws herself into her studies wanting to be independent.
This never occurred to me but now that you describe it this way, I'd happily, happily take an entire series centered around the adventures of Octavia and the Grimoire.
Grimoire's her new and better dad.

Preview:
Fox doesn’t know why he’d been sent on this mission but he’s absolutely certain it’s because someone somewhere hoped it would end up with him dead. Either from the numerous traps in this Sith temple or the fact that by the end of this nightmare he’d want to off himself. The only benefit he’s been able to find so far has been the short amount of time carved out and spent with Cody and Rex.
Short as it might have been, it’s been good to see his batchmate and the tag along.
Even though that time had the sour note of never enough as they had all been focused at first on planning ahead for this mission and then focusing on just trying to stay alive. They’d almost lost a good chunk of the 212th before they’d split into a smaller team and then they’d almost lost Rex to a trap that tried to take his head off.
It had been growing increasingly dangerous to the point that it was looking like General Kenobi was going to pull them back and out of the temple.
Until all the current bullshit happened at least.
Fox glowers at the Zabrak who lounges across the room from him, whose back is up against the grainy stone wall of the temple room they’re both now stuck in. The Zabrak who’s sneering in disgust at Fox like Fox had anything to do with their current predicament.
Like Fox purposefully dragged the fucker into the blinding light in the center of the other room. When it had been Maul tackling Fox into it. So really all the blame can be put at the Sith’s feet, but since he’s a Sith it’s obviously Fox’s fault. Even though he’d been an innocent bystander who’d shouted the warning about the light activating.
There’s a brief flash in his head of the events. Shouted warnings, Maul tackling Fox and both of them falling backwards into the light as Cody screamed out his name and Rex tried to reach him. Fox had seen General Kenobi’s hand shoot out, felt the tug of something as it tried to pull him away from Maul and the light.
It hadn’t been enough.
Now he was stuck in a room with no visible exits, only the strange writing covering the walls that made his head hurt if he looked at it too long. Stuck with a fucking Sith. Who he can’t even try to kill because, of course, nothing can be simple.
Fox had thought that the light had been an activated trap. He was right about that but it also just so happened to be so much worse than just something trying to kill him. Because Fox’s luck isn’t that fucking good for something to just put him out of his misery. No it had to turn out to be something so much worse.
A fucking ancient Sith marriage ritual that binds two souls together.
“What the fuck does that mean?” Fox asks again as he paces his side of the room because he’s still in the middle of processing the fact that he’s now possibly permanently bound to an enemy of the Republic. Which is really fucking bad considering he’s the fucking Marshal Commander of Coruscant and he has no clue if this connection allows the Sith free access to everything in Fox’s head.
Which considering the bullshit force stories he hears from his other batchmates he really wouldn’t doubt that’s what is happening right now.
Fox can feel a pull in his gut every time he gets too far away. At first a slight tug but the further he paces away to one side of the room the more it hurts. Like it’s a rubber band stretching to it’s limits. He turns on his heel and moves closer to Maul despite not wanting to be anywhere near the man.
Maul bares his teeth before he huffs, “Can you not hear Clone? It means we are bound to suffer or succeed together. Every injury one takes the other bares and we can not bring harm to one another.” It explains the mirror of bruises and cuts that covers the both of them. Why when Fox tried to stab Maul with the knife in his boot he couldn’t force himself to press more than a small red line into the others throat. Why Maul couldn’t bring himself to light the lightsaber that had been pressed to Fox’s belly.

I’ve been waiting for the right time to talk about the Whales and after the most recent episode, I think I have enough to have a proper discussion about them. I’m going to try and keep this streamlined, but there’s a good chance I’ll end up jumping from one topic to another that I think have relations to the Whales.
I hope you guys are in the mood for reading cause this is probably going to be a long post
[trigger warning for mentions of suicide ahead]
What we know about the whales
We first learn about the Whales in the season 2 finale, where it’s revealed that Lord Ogo had met Shoal once in the past, with Shoal offering some of his blood in exchange for directions to the whales. Kappa explains to Siren how ‘they’re giants, said to be hundreds of years old, and the only people alive who could reach the surface’. He then goes on about how they disappeared, with no one knowing where they went. Thanks to Lord Ogo’s information, the group head towards the Forest of Kelp and find the whales and, oh boy, do they make a big impression. Fizz explains how the whales used to live at the surface and that unlike normal mers, they sustain themselves by feeding on energy from the surface (a line I will be getting back to). However, because of currently unknown reasons, they were forced to leave, causing them to fall into a permanent rest due to their lack of access to the surface, with them being asleep for hundreds of years.
Tumblr media
In episode 141, it’s revealed that the Forest of Kelp was created by the Whales. As Galoo explains, legends say that this area of the sea was completely inhabitable, being a barren field of sand. However, after the whales fell and their bodies found rest on the sand beds, they released an abundance of golden light and the sand below them bursted with life. For those who don’t know, this is actually a real life phenomenon, referred to as whale fall. A whale fall occurs when the carcass of a whale has fallen onto the ocean floor, in the bathyal or abyssal zones. On the sea floor, these carcasses can create complex localized ecosystems that supply sustenance to deep-sea organisms for decades.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, we learnt that four years ago, the whales fell under a mysterious illness, but thanks to the help of Shoal, the Sluggi were able to stabilize their condition and now have medicine that can cure the whales when their symptoms return. Although, it’s important to mention that the cause of their failing health was never discovered.
Tumblr media
Why did the whales fall?
At this point in time, I don’t think we have enough information to make any solid guess on what happened. However, I do have some ideas, most stemming from what we have recently learnt about the surface. Hearing about the surface and it’s ‘abundance of energy’ was very interesting, especially since our information on the surface has been…limited for some time now. The first time the surface was really talked about was in season one, extra episode four, where we first learn about Kappa’s attempt to reach the surface. During the episode, Kappa talks about how people told him the surface is the afterlife, a place for God and the dead, and how people who attempt to reach it will disappear and never come back. However, this season has revealed that mers have lived at the surface, with the rumor of it being a afterlife coming from how swimming straight up is one of the easiest ways to die. Back to the topic of the surface’s energy, one idea I have is that the reason the Whales fell was because someone wanted to take advantage of this energy.
Let me explain. If the surface really is this place with an abundance of energy, where giants like the Whales can be sustained by solely feeding on it, anyone power hungry enough would see it as a gold mine of potential. If that turns out to be the case, it’s possible that the Whales attempted to stop them, and fell from the surface as a result, or these people struck first to have more energy to themselves and/or before the Whales could figure out what was going on. In this scenario, who would want to take advantage of the surface’s energy? My best guesses are either the Narwhal twins’s people or the ancient people.
While they’ve only appeared in one episode, we can pick up some details. They’re one of the first mers we’ve seen that have made use of the fossil, being able to shoot magic (ice?) out of their swords, them seemingly coming from the same place as Orakos, who is already suspected to be from the surface (with their unknown age, them being new to the sea and their knowledge about fossils and the ancient people), and of course, narwhals being medium-sized, toothed whales. Plus, they have the ruthlessness that would be would come the type of people in this scenario.
With the ancient people, we don’t have a solid enough time line to confirm or deny if they could have been around when the whales fell, so I don’t think they’re the best option. If we were to further consider this, with them likely having created the machine like magic we’ve seen from the mini gods, the twins and Orakos and the likelihood of them having a Icarus like fate with the development of their technology, the possibility of them stealing energy at the surface could fit.
I have seen ideas that the God of the Surface could have some involvement with the Whales falling. This idea definitely has potential since the Surface God would definitely have the powers to do something like this. Although, I have no idea why they would do this. While I say that, from what we’ve seen of how the Surface God has treated Kappa…they don’t seem to be the most omnibenevolent being, so I could see it.
One last idea before we get to the real meat of this post. We know that before the Forest of Kelp started to grow, the Whales released ‘an abundance of golden light’. What if this golden light they released is energy from the surface? With the Whales bodies releasing what remaining energy they had in order in protect themselves? It’s an idea I’ve had for a bit that I didn’t really have evidence to support until we saw this image in episode 147:
Tumblr media
The Whales and the Flyfins at the surface, both surrounded in gold lighting. Not to mention, Kappa, you know, child of the surface god, is the same yellow/goldish colour in this area of the sea. Additionally, though it could be a coincidence, when Fizz talks about the surface’s energy and Galoo talks the golden light, they both use the word abundance when describing them.
Maybe some points here are a stretch, but yeah, it’s at least food for thought.
The Flyfin and the Sluggi
While I may not have a solid idea about what went down with the Whales, I feel much more confident to talk about the conflict going on between the Flyfin and the Sluggi. While there’s a lot to consider, I think at the end of the day, it can be summarised a conflict centered around opposing desires for a home.
Out of the two groups, I’m going to discuss the Flyfin first, since we have their reasons for wanting to awaken the Whales clearly stated, while with the Sluggi, we’ll have to do some speculation. As we learnt in episode 146, the Flyfins want to swim to the surface and believe awaking the whales is the only way they’ll be able to. Fizz explains that along with the Whales, the Flyfin used to live at the surface, swimming along side the whales as companions. However, when the Whales fell, the Flyfin fell with them, causing them to be stuck at the bottom of the ocean. For hundreds of years, they helped care for the Whales, waiting for them to wake up so they could return home. But as time passed, the Flyfin started to give up, venturing out to make new homes for themselves and abandoning the idea of returning to the surface, leaving Fizz, Fean and Finley to be the last Flyfin waiting for the whales to awaken.
From the Flyfins’s perspective, it’s very understandable why they would want to awaken the Whales. Their people were forced away from their home by some unknown force and as we’ve seen and heard, the Sluggi treat the Flyfins coldly because of their desire to awaken the whales, forcing them to hunt for their own meals since the Sluggi never give them extra food to cover their required diets and have seemingly banned them from entering the archive, seeing as they mention sneaking in there. Why wouldn’t they want to return somewhere they could call home?
Although, there are certain things about this explanation that don’t feel…complete or per say. Firstly, despite the Flyfin falling with the whales, they have no explanation to why the whales fell in the first. You would think that they would have some idea about what happened, as the apparent companions to the whales, so either what happened was so sudden/occurred in such a way that Flyfin weren’t able to get a proper grasp on what was going on, or details what happened got lost through the generations. Secondly, when do the Sluggi come into this story? We see in the flashback that the Sluggi and Flyfin have been working together to care for the whales for generations, but when did this start? We see in present day that the Sluggi are the heads of the sanctuary, but was this always the case? Since the Flyfin fell with the whales, it would make sense of the Flyfin first created the sanctuary, with the Sluggi coming along later down the line. Did the Flyfin get separated from the whales when they fell, with the Sluggi being the first people to find the whales after their fall? Did the Sluggi just gain more authority after the Flyfin started to leave? There is a clear tension between the Sluggi and the Flyfin siblings, is this something that built over time or has it always been present? We can’t be sure for now.
Tumblr media
Since Fizz wants to get Kappa’s help to awaken the Whales, I doubt he would be deliberately hiding important information, especially with how taken he is with Kappa. If he is though, it could be because he thinks Kappa knowing certain information would cause him to refuse to help (YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT ANYMORE BUDDY), or because Siren was there listening. Speaking of Fizz though, it’s interesting that he focuses on returning to their ‘true home’ when talking about their goal. Throughout episode 147, we see him say things like ‘they’ll guide us back to our home’, expecting the surface to be ‘A place where you feel like you belong. A place where you feel safe and fulfilled in every way’. While I can definitely see this being a result of living with the Sluggi, this seems to be more personal, with there being more to the story. While I don’t know the specifics yet, I have a good idea.
Tumblr media
When reading about Fizz and his siblings’s backstory, one main question arose for me: if they’re the only flyfin left who are waiting for the whales to awaken, then where are their parents? From the flashback panel we’ve seen of the flyfin, it looks like it’s just been the three of them since Finley was very young (I want to say he looks around 4-5 years old?). There are two main options I’m considering at the moment for what happened with their parents: either they died, or they abandoned them to find a new home for themselves. Now, one of these options is much more loaded than the other, but either case could help inform why Fizz is so desperate to find a home at the surface.
Tumblr media
Now we’re going to move on to the Sluggi, who have the complete opposite view of the Flyfin. While none of the Sluggi have outright said it, Kappa is able to pick up very quickly that they don’t want to awaken the Whales, with them dedicating their lives towards caring for the whales and showing hostility towards anyone they believe has intentions to awaken them. Despite their treatment of him and his siblings, Fizz still thinks they’re good people, so the question is, what is their deal? With what we know and the speculations I have so far, I think I have some decent ideas to why the Sluggi wouldn’t want the Whales to wake up. If it was the Whales falling from the surface that created the Kelp Forest, with them being an energy source for the forest, it would be reasonable for them to fear that the Whales waking up could cause the forest to start dying. Not only would the Sluggi be out of a home, but additionally, all the creatures that live in the forest would be too, with them possibly dying out after losing their natural habitat.
Tumblr media
Since we’re on the topic of the Sluggi, it would be wrong if I didn’t talk about one of my favourite new characters from the season so far, Galoo. Asides from just being a sweetheart, Galoo’s character is already being a set up in a way that can lead to some intriguing scenes. There’s one panel that really caught my attention when I first saw it.
Tumblr media
With the inevitability of the whales being woken up some point down the line, witches’s goal to find a new purpose and the blooming romance between Mono and Galoo, this could cause some interesting feelings of confliction. While we don’t know loads about Galoo yet, we do know a decent amount. She clearly has a very important role in the sanctuary, with her being the one that shows new comers the ins and outs of the sanctuary and her working as the Seer for the sanctuary. With her seeing ability being unique to her (out of the Sluggi at least) and her differencing appearance from the rest of the Sluggi, there’s the possibility that this is a role that has been passed down through her family/relatives, with her being raised to take over this position once she was old enough or when the previous Seer died. If (or really when) the discussion on whether or not the whales should be awakened comes around, I can see a lot of confliction from Galoo depending on how things go. At the moment, she obviously leans towards simply caring for the whales, it’s both what she was raised to do and the mindset of her culture. She views it as her purpose. However, if it becomes clear that awakening the whales is the better choice, I can totally see her battling feelings wanting to do what’s best for the whales, while also fearing what she will do with herself if the whales are gone. When it comes to the witches and this possible discussion, the idea that they could lead to people losing their purpose, while they’re looking for a new purpose themselves, could definitely cause some interesting feelings, especially with Mono as she grows closer to Galoo.
While we’re still on Galoo, I’m very interested to see how her memory ability is going to play into the Whales plot. As we learnt when we first met Galoo, she has the ability to see people’s memories by touching them. With the existence of such an ability, a reasonable question has been raised: could Galoo use her ability on the whales to see what happened? Is there were previous seerings, have any of them tried before, or have they never considered it because they have no intention to try and awaken the whales? We know this ability can be used with or without someone’s knowledge, as we can see in episode 127, with Orakos appearing to have the same ability. If Galoo ends up helping with awakening the whales, we could see her try to see into their memories. Although, even if Galoo wanted, it’s possible that she isn’t able to because they’re asleep. We’ve learnt quite a bit about what Galoo can do with her powers (seeing people’s memories, reading people’s thoughts and helping people recover memories), but we don’t really know what limitations it could have. It’s possible that she is unable to use her powers on someone if they’re not conscious. We’ll have to wait and see for now.
Tumblr media
Treatment of Siren and Kappa
Now that we’ve covered why each party would either want to awaken the whales or keep them asleep, let’s move on to their differencing treatments of Siren and Kappa cause, oh boy, I do have some strong feelings about it. I’m going to start with the Sluggi this time around since my feelings on the Flyfin are a bit…stronger this time around.
With the Sluggi’s treatment of Siren, what they’re doing, in their eyes at least, is probably less special treatment and more repaying a debt. As we learnt, Shoal saved the whales from illness during his time there. Considering how important the Whales are to the sluggi, this is a VERY big fucking deal. Even if we don’t consider that and just look at the act itself, what Shoal did was remarkable. I mean, this man was able to successfully save these hundreds, maybe even thousands years old beings from the surface (you know, that place where the main God of this world is from) from an unknown illness they don’t know the cause of. If there are no complications in this story, god damn does Shoal seem to be a good ass healer. Additionally, if episode 148 is anything to go off on, the Sluggi likely learnt about the details surrounding the sharks prophecy during Shoal’s stay. Now, after four years since they’ve seen Shoal, his only son arrives looking for information? Yeah, it’s more than understandable that they would want to make sure he is treated well. However, despite the well meaning intentions, their actions have been causing Siren far more discomfort and anger, with Siren’s baggage of being treated as special/different at the shark castle and their blatant mistreatment of his boyfriend.
Tumblr media
When it comes to the Sluggi’s treatment of Kappa…let’s just say my view on it went from understanding to absolute dogshit after a certain event. When we first meet the Sluggi, they meet both the boys with the same amount of understandable suspicion and hostility, considering they’re both strangers in the sanctuary. When Kappa reveals he’s the beacon while covering for the Flyfin, the Sluggi tell him how they don’t give special privileges to anyone there, including the beacon, which is just music to Kappa’s ears (so far so good). After the group has been approved by Galoo and they’ve agreed to clean the Whales, one of the Sluggi step in, telling Kappa to keep his distance from the Whales and not to touch them under any circumstances.
Now, on a surface level, I would say that’s a fair enough demand from the Sluggi. Kappa is the child of the Surface God after all, and as they explain, they don’t know how the whales would react to a god-like influence, especially with them being from the surface and their fragile state. Best to be on the cautious side than risk the Whale’s safety. However, it becomes clear that their treatment of Kappa is being less fueled by understandable caution, and more by a disdain for anyone interested in waking up the Whales. This can be clearly seen with them coldly glaring at Kappa when he tried to ask if there was anything he could do to help and, most importantly, how they refused to give him food since he didn’t do any actual work, despite them telling him to stay away from the whales while refusing to give him an alternative task to do in the meantime.
Tumblr media
There is reasonable caution, and there is this, especially since Kappa’s completely fine to follow the rules they set and would be more than happy to do any possible alternative work set for him. Even though their treatment of Kappa would be unacceptable regardless, Kappa hasn’t even expressed a clear desire to awaken the Whales! All of this is likely coming from the potential they think Kappa has to successfully awaken the whales. I don’t think their treatment of Kappa is going to get better any time soon unless there is a serious talk with them, Galoo and Siren, though there might be some hope after what happened in episode 148, with Kappa cutting off Fizz (trust me, we will get FULLY into that). Furthermore, there’s something inevitably upcoming that the Sluggi will definitely blame Kappa for. Orakos and the Narwhal twins finding Kappa, and as an inconsequential result of this, them finding the sanctuary. Yeah, things aren’t looking good for him.
When it comes to the Flyfins’s treatment of Kappa, like with the Sluggi’s treatment of Siren, it’s very easy to see where it’s coming from. Like many people in the sea, they grew up with the idea that beacon was this grand god-like figure, completely unlike anyone or anything they have ever known. When they hear about how the boys are looking for the whales, they all go wide eyed, with Fizz asking if he’s here to awaken them. This reaction is quite interesting looking back at, since it made me question something that I’m surprised I didn’t think about sooner. If the Flyfin have been waiting for the whales to awaken for so long, why have they never form a prophecy surrounding awakening the Whales? If it really has been hundreds of years, you would think at least one generation would have considered it. Did they not want to be solely dependent on a prophecy or is there something stopping them from making one around the whales? We don’t know much about how prophecies work at the moment, so we can’t say for sure.
From this point onwards, the Flyfin then start trying to get Kappa to help with awakening the whales, with Fizz soon steamrolling ahead after he heard Kappa’s attempted journey to the surface, claiming that it was destiny that they met and that he’ll be the one to awaken the whales, with him never actually asking if Kappa would be willing to help them. With Fizz, it seems like that admiration for Kappa as the beacon goes a lot further than his siblings, and have turned somewhat fanatic and into some sort of crush on Kappa, although it doesn’t seem like he’s really aware of that yet, considering his reaction when Kappa asked if he was hitting on him. This possible crush alone have gotten him flak from some readers, but here’s the thing: there’s nothing wrong with Fizz just having feelings for Kappa. However, depending on how he acts as a result of those feelings, while knowing Kappa is already in a relationship with Siren, is where problems can occur, and BOY have problems occurred.
This brings me onto the Flyfins’s, but more accurately, Fizz’s treatment of Siren. God…where do I even start with this? In episode 137, we first start to see Fizz’s weird behaviour towards Siren, specifically after he learn that Siren is Kappa’s boyfriend. We see him have this really weird look on his face, blanking staring out while his siblings talked to Kappa and cutting Kappa off when he started to talk about Siren. It was really strange to see during my first read through, but with Fean’s knowing look at Fizz and more episodes, it’s clear that this was the start of jealousy about Siren and Kappa’s relationship on Fizz’s end.
Tumblr media
Although, this idea didn’t truly stick with me until episode 142, where we see Fizz backhandedly say hi to Siren after being extremely warm and welcoming to Kappa. After this, we have his less than pleased reaction to seeing that Kappa brought Siren with him to dinner in episode 146, and finally, the condescending why he asked Siren’s question in episode 147. These little events might not seem like much on their own, but all together, it paints a clear picture of Fizz having some unfounded problem with Siren, likely fueled by jealousy. All of this, along with some additional feelings from Fizz, leads us to the shit storm that occurred in episode 148. After Fizz steamrolls Kappa with talk about destiny and how he’ll be the one to awaken the Whales, without even stopping to see how Kappa feels about this, Siren steps in to say that no, Kappa isn’t there to fulfill the dreams of the Flyfin. He’s there because he has his own dreams and goals to he wants to achieve, with Siren going on to say how if they want their dreams to come true, they should make it happen on their own. Fizz, being as headstrong about his dreams as he is, does not take kindly to this, trying to shut Siren off. Siren then responds with ‘You have a responsibility to your own people, right? Why should Kappa be the one to carry the burden?’, and OH BOY, does Fizz not respond well to this, questioning what Siren knows about responsibility while revealing he knows about the sharks’s prophecy.
Tumblr media
After this horrible and uncalled for response, Fizz talks about how he knew Shoal when he stayed there and overheard him venting about his troubles, using Shoal’s guilt as a weapon against Siren before claiming that Siren must not think his people are important enough, considering how he’s still alive. All of this from Fizz was completely vile. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I first read the episode. Essentially saying that if Siren (who mind you, he has only known for a SINGLE DAY) cared about his people, he would have killed himself already. We know how much Siren is struggling with whether he deserves to live this season, with him trying to ask Kappa to kill him if they don’t find an alternative solution before the curse returns, so I can’t imagine how badly this is going to affect him moving forward. What the hell happened to Fizz that he turned out like this, while his siblings turned out to be well adjusted enough people to recognise how fucked this all was and were telling him to stop? To the shock of no one with a functioning brain, Kappa defends Siren, telling Fizz to stay away from both of them and that he won’t be helping Fizz with anything. It’s going to be interesting (and worrying) to see how Fizz will react from this, considering how desperate he is to achieve his goal and has no one but himself to blame for this situation.
Considering how Siren is, I think he’s going to want to keep this all on the down low (which isn’t going to be good for his unstable heart) while Kappa, though wanting to support him, is going to try and encourage him to tell someone about this. If the witches find out, Fizz is going to immediately end up on their shit list, especially with Neth, who I think would definitely want to keep a closer eye on Siren, with her knowing all too well about what it feels like to not feel deserving of being alive compared to your people. If the Sluggi find out? Fizz might as well start packing cause there would undoubtedly be harsh consequences for saying something that cruel to Shoal’s son.
I’m really intrigued with how Fean and Finley are going to deal with this situation. With Fizz fucking up any chances of Kappa willingly helping them, I wonder how they’ll feel about Fizz after all this and how they’ll interact with Kappa and Siren in the future. Since Fean is really giving off the vibe of ‘oldest sibling that had to raise their younger siblings’, I’m expecting a full scene of her yelling at Fizz. I’m not sure what Finley’s first actions will be though. I don’t think I have enough of a read of him yet to make a proper call. Either way, they’re probably do their best to apologise on their brother’s part, though I’m not sure how well that will go for them.
The clear irony of this whole situation, as we’ve seen, is that the more each group mistreats Siren and Kappa respectively, the more they will push away the one they care about, while also be placing both of them in dangers because of their hearts. As we learnt at the beginning of the season, because their new hearts aren’t completely theirs yet and they’re unable to control their magic, any strong emotions can cause them to react, and if the emotion is strong enough, all three hearts will be affected, putting the boys in danger.
Tumblr media
Now…with constant mistreatment from one party while another party constantly mistreatments your boyfriend? Especially after what happened in episode 148? They may or may not give the final push, but they definitely will feed into the build up of possible emotional outbursts from both the boys.
Shoal and the whales’s illness
To end things off, I’m going do what is becoming one of my favourite things in regards to Castle Swimmer: talking about Shoal. Since we learnt that Shoal saved the whales from illness four years ago, we’re coming closer to catching up with Shoal’s trail from the last ten years. To quickly lay out what we know so far:
10 years ago - Shoal first left to find an alternative solution to the curse, with Siren being nine at the time
6 years ago - Herm last saw Shoal, with him being injured but insisting on leaving right after. Since he’s in the Purple Peaks at this time, we can assume he met Lord Ogo around this time too
4 years ago - Shoal stayed at the sanctuary and treated the whales
We don’t know why exactly Shoal wanted to find the whales, but considering how we know that if they want to break the shark’s curse an alternative way, they also need to get rid of their prophecy, it’s possible that Shoal was hoping they would have answers about prophecies. It would make sense, since they are surface beings and prophecies are connected to Kappa and the Surface God.
I’m curious about what were the first reactions to Shoal when he first arrived at the sanctuary. While we know he ended up very beloved after saving the whales, how did the Sluggi treat him before? And what about the Flyfin? Fizz claimed he knew Shoal during his time there, but considering he only overheard Shoal venting about his problems, rather then hearing directly from Shoal, it doesn’t seem like they were very close. It doesn’t seem like any of the Flyfin recognised Siren as Shoal’s son either, likely finding out with the Sluggi, though we don’t see their reaction to this information, which is something we could keep in mind. The fact that Shoal is venting to someone at all is interesting to see, since Herm said Shoal didn’t talk about himself much while he was with them. Back on topic, considering Shoal’s possible goal with the whales, did the Flyfin ever try to get support from Shoal in their goal to awaken the whales? Who knows at the moment.
Moving onto the whales’s illness, there’s a small detail I noticed when re-reading that might be nothing, but caught my eye. When talking about how Shoal helped supply medicine for the whales, Galoo specifically says ‘when their symptoms return’ not ‘if their symptoms return’, suggesting that they know it’s only a matter of until this illness returns.
Tumblr media
When it comes to what caused the whales’s illness? No idea, but I do have quite a bit of paranoia surrounding it. Maybe it has something to do with them being away from the surface as long as they have? If the whales are working as a sort of energy source for the forest, maybe they’re coming to their limit, similar how whale carcasses in actual whale falls can only supply sustenance for so long.
I think that’s all I have for now. If other people have more ideas I would love to hear them!

Chapter 104 thoughts
I'm back from posting purgatory and have rewritten, more or less, what Tumblr deleted, so now it's time for my favorite game: Ina Tries To Figure Out What The Fuck Happened In The Latest Noragami Chapter. Spoilers under the cut.
So at the beginning we see trash dad cut himself free from Fujisaki and revert to his original form, while Fujisaki wakes up in Yukine's old house, far from home. I'm really interested to see how much he knows, which I said last time--whether he was aware he was being used or if he's basically been unconscious for the past year. I think he has to be aware on some level, because he knows Father's true name and has to invoke it to summon him from Yomi, but it would also be funny if he flies into a panic, follows the newly created lake, and ends up with the main cast. How far are they from the house, anyway?
Come to think of it, I've been reading Alive since last month (Adachitoka's first manga, which was written by their mentor while they drew the art) and while I'm not done yet, the north of Japan features prominently as a setting for that story and as the final showdown for this one. I'm not sure why, maybe they're from there, but it's interesting.
I'm so glad Yato slammed into trash dad after he insulted Mizuchi. It shows he does recognize her as a victim, and is willing to let things mend between them, since she's had her own character arc since Yato released her name. Don't get me wrong, that was still the right choice for him at the time--but they've both changed since then. And I always love the character development in this manga so this had me bouncing in my seat.
YATO ALSO SAYING HE'S NOTHING BUT A DEAD PERSON LIKE YESSSSSS GET HIM GET HIM KILL HIS MISERABLE ASS
Ahem. I wish Yato had been able to land at least one punch on this horrible man, but it's time for a shounen powerup.
Using the koto no ha on himself grants trash dad access to Izanami/Izanagi level powers, which I think is a temporary powerup that will end with Izanami taking him back to Yomi, because of how he can "feel her breath" on his neck. He plans to then escape again, and possess another body.
This new power is an ass pull as fast-moon put it, but it's also not the first of its kind in Noragami. Think back to Yukine getting cut in half and becoming a hafuri, Amaterasu appearing out of nowhere to give Hiyori the hint that saved Yato's life in Yomi, and how the main characters were saved from the covenant which provided the entire basis for the current arc (due to unresolved tensions between them and the rest of heaven). Basically, in Noragami these things happen with good reason and/or hugely impact the rest of the story, so I think it's best to wait and see how this trash dad development plays out before making judgments on how it affects the writing quality.
There's an old Noragami theory that Father is Izanagi, or stole his power, and it's been mostly dismissed in recent years (but there's an echodrops post about it here if you're interested in the points it made) and even more so since we got snippets of his backstory, but I think it's worth bringing back up now. Izanagi has been suspiciously absent from the manga, and I'm not sure he's even been mentioned, so I wonder if the koto no ha ties into that somehow. Honestly if Izanami killed him in this version of the story and used his power to make the koto no ha, good for her.
Anyway, trash dad reveals he's not just some human who came back from the dead. He can use these powers of creation; it's unclear whether he's used them before, but Yato has never seen him do so--Mizuchi seems to know what he's doing, but it's also unclear whether she's seen it either. I said years ago I don't think it was easy as him just returning from the dead and being granted godlike powers, but I haven't been insistent on it so much because I did a reread of the official translation two years ago and that version heavily implies the only thing trash dad did to get his powers was come back from the dead. I wonder how they'll reconcile that when this volume gets translated (please hold for another 2 years, lmfao).
Is this Izanagi's power, or Izanami's? Did he steal Izanagi's powers next after he paid Izanami a visit? Did he know what using the koto no ha on himself would do? Was it an educated guess based on Izanami's power? Is it still possible he could be a reincarnated Izanagi that believed himself to be human? I don't know if I'd like that last one, but these are the questions I hope to have answered.
Taking a brief detour to discuss that Kiun and Mayu have joined forces to look for their gods, and Ookuninushi is alive but has with him three freshly reincarnated gods--Yatagarasu, Kagutsuchi, and Shinatsuhiko. I'm shocked he lived and they died, but it may lead to an interesting change in heaven where he has to reconcile how they threw away their shinki lives even after they were explicitly told not to use them. The way heaven (and most gods) treat their shinki as not people but disposable tools has been a long-running theme of this manga, and it's been clear larger-scale changes need to be made.
So back to the main event, trash dad creates a biblical sort of flood, but one that brings images of the past. Alongside the tree where a young Yato named Sakura, we also see a cottage and a multi-level house. The cottage may be where Yato and Hiiro were raised, or it might be the one from the Father flashbacks: Check them out side by side:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(103-2; page 1 [Father and Kaya village]; 104, page 21; 45, page 33 [Yato, Hiiro, Father cottage] if you want to check for yourself)
Next, there's that multi-story building, which could be the place where Yato made his first kills, or Hiyori's grandmother's house. There isn't much visible, so it's hard to tell, but here's another side by side:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(46, page 9 [where Yato made his first kills]; 104, page 21; 85, page 42 [Hiyori's grandmother's house])
If this enchanted world functions similarly to Hiyori viewing Yato's past while he's asleep, Hiyori will get to experience trash dad's past as it really happened. I've mentioned before it bothers me how the gravekeeper has been narrating the events even though he wasn't present for any of them, so it's entirely likely Father manipulated the facts of his history, or they naturally changed over the course of a thousand years.
I also think Hiyori could find out trash dad's weak point, his true name, if/when she witnesses his past. She could then become his lifeline and decide to let the secret die with her. Or he could possess her, but I'm being optimistic.
The tree she sees is the tree where Yato named Sakura, but it could also have some significance to Father and Kaya; if the cottage where he raised Yato and Hiiro was in the same general location as that village, he could have some memories there.
So if we get Hiyori and Sakura interaction I will cry. If we get Hiyori and Kaya interaction I will also cry.
Next few chapters I'm really excited to see where this enchanted lake dimension thing goes. Yukine could also be caught up in it, depending on how far it has spread, and it'll be interesting to see how Amaterasu reacts to it too.
I don't normally say this, but reblogs are appreciated. This post required a lot of skimming older chapters to tie my thoughts together, and my original draft got half erased when I was just finishing it up so I had to rewrite a lot of it. Plus it seems like everyone was pretty confused by the events of this chapter, so a reblog would help to spread it around and hopefully shed some light on the events. Thanks!

Human: To make you question your very existence in the universe and your personal worth to society. Alien: Isn't that a bit extreme? Human: God help you if you ever come across purple text then. --------------------------------------
Alien: Why are so many weird people on this chan of 4’s? Human: Mostly to get back at the government agents who are spying on their internet history. Alien: How do they know they’re being watched at all? Human: *looks at monitor* Oh they know……

me rambling about the Puppetmaster Rick is currently hunting Evil Morty theory
1. It's been implied (although never confirmed) that Rick C-137 became motivated enough to invent portal travel when Rick Prime killed his wife. In the same vein, wouldn't Puppetmaster Rick also be motivated enough to re-invent or fix portal travel for himself after Evil Morty broke it? (so let's watch out for any Ricks with different colored portal fluids)
2. When this happened:
Tumblr media
I can see two ways it may have played out for clone Mortys:
...either they were sent to the dimension of the original they were a copy of (but... what about any clone Mortys that are a blend of more than one naturally occurring Mortys? If such a thing is a thing, of course)...
...or all clone Mortys who had ever been created in the Citadel, dead or alive, teleported right back in the Morty factory, their excess numbers vastly exceeding its capacity (as it was created for hosting a finite number of Mortys at any given time and then every Morty ever manufactured there teleported back in), until it became a massive pit of clone Mortys long dead, clone Mortys who recently died in the Citadel's ruins, and alive clone Mortys (who were lucky enough not to be in the Citadel at the time of its destruction, and then unlucky enough to be teleported back and crushed to death by the weight of their peers' remains), until the WHOLE MORTY FACTORY looked like this:
Tumblr media
Doesn't this mean that (unless he somehow managed to halt his resetting) Evil Morty probably was among the Mortys teleported there and narrowly avoided getting crushed to death, maybe by willingly teleporting himself back in the Citadel moments before the resetting took effect (therefore "resetting" himself before everyone else) and then again immediately teleporting himself away?
Any excess clone Mortys who were alive in the Citadel's Mortyburg (that Rick C-137 had used to escape) were probably exempt from the resetting and remained there, surviving for a while.
In addition, a small number of clone Mortys might have also survived being crushed to death in the Morty factory.
All those few surviving Mortys probably starved to death... (and might I say, it seems like Space Beth, Rick C-137 and Morty Prime abandoned all the surviving excess Mortys in Mortyburg, we never saw them transporting any...?)
...Unless they were kidnapped and trafficked by scavengers (which... might be a thing, considering Ricks are still around and Mortys suddenly became a rare commodity.)
3. So IF Puppetmaster Rick is alive and well and trying to find traces of the Morty who trapped him in a fate worse than death, wouldn't he eventually find a way to visit the Citadel, searching for traces of his old sidekick? (So let's keep an eye out for any traces that someone has been tampering with the Citadel's ruins; such as security footage missing, indications that someone temporarily powered up the Citadel's servers to access records, etc)
Wouldn't he run through all the Morty corpses, scanning each and every one of them for cables and other identifying characteristics, before discarding them? (which for some reason is an extremely unsettling imagery to me)
If any Mortys survived in the Citadel's remains and were taken by traffickers, wouldn't Puppetmaster Rick try to locate each and every one of them, in case one of them was Evil Morty?
Wouldn't he also simultaneously search the multiverse for traces of Evil Morty? Like, maybe he has a sub-basement level like this one:
Tumblr media
...only instead of a monitor of Rick Prime's stupid smug face he'd have a monitor of Evil Morty's bloodied and tear-stained face...?
(or, you know, maybe he's doing none of the above. Maybe he was so messed up from the worse-than-death fate that he had been confined in for so long, that he did not have the presence of mind for any schemes for a long time)
4. If the above described clone Morty massacre is what really occurred, it probably was the best shield Evil Morty could ever have. Since the remains of dead portal travelers were also reset, what would seem more likely to Puppetmaster Rick:
that his old sidekick kicked the bucket e.g. in the blender dimension and his remains were teleported by the resetting but are no longer identifiable
or that somehow his old sidekick miraculously escaped almost certain death during a time portal travel was broken and is currently hiding extremely well?
So Evil Morty may not be too worried about being discovered, because the likeliest scenario is that Puppermaster Rick is not looking for him too hard.
5. Now me tying my two theories (Puppetmaster Rick hunting Evil Morty down & Evil Morty being a clone of Morty Prime) together:
So maybe, after Evil Morty returned outside the Curve, he scanned for his own brainwave/dimensional signature and, after filtering for probability stasis (which seems to discard the copies from the search result and retain only the original) located the dimension where his original Morty is: the Par-mee-zee-an dimension. Okay cool. Whatever. He already knew he was someone's copy, doesn't really matter whose. And since portal travel was still broken (the Smiths had to go to through the Rift to reach the Parmeezeean dimension) he had no reason not to assume his original Morty was Parmeezeean Morty (lol).
So he plopped himself down on the edge of the Parmeezeean dimension and built his home there. This way, in case Puppetmaster Rick scans for him, the two signals will be blended. Great.
...Provided, of course, that Parmeezeean Morty doesn't switch dimensions (how could he, given that portal travel is broken?) and that Evil Morty minimizes his stay away from the Curve, just as a precaution.
And this theory gives a different interpretation for this scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'Cause I thought of a couple of explanations yet none of them sat right with me:
Evil Morty did not seem upset while Rick was dragging Morty Prime with him through the portal, his expression only changed after they came to the other side (possibly explained because it was only then that he was safe enough to afford to be upset about anything).
He never seemed to even glance at Rick, Morty was the object of his attention.
I don't want anyone's decisions or reactions (including Evil Morty's) to be influenced by who is a copy of whom. It shouldn't matter. A lot of the clone Mortys in the Citadel probably originated from the same naturally occurring Morty that he did, and Evil Morty killed them anyway, so it's not like he has a soft spot for other Mortys simply because they had the same DNA and memories that he does. Plus I want his relationship with Rick C-137 to be defined over the actual interactions that they have (in which Rick is genuinely more respectful of him than any other Rick has probably ever been, but of course there is still zero affection. And while Rick C-137 obviously loves Morty Prime, he's still a toxic, fickle individual and Evil Morty has given up on the hope of a good relationship with a Rick for a long time now. I'm not sure he'd really feel jealous of Morty Prime's relationship with Rick C-137. Even if he's different than the other Ricks, it's only by a small amount. Plus he can't actually know if Morty Prime's loving memories of Rick -that were implanted in Evil Morty- were of Rick C-137 specifically; in theory, another Rick could have been living with Morty Prime originally) rather than implanted memories of someone else's interactions.
So. The other possible interpretation of Evil Morty's reaction that I can come up with is that, as soon as Evil Morty crossed the threshold of the portal that would bring them all to safety (that he had obviously no idea where it would lead because it was Rick who fired the joined portal guns), he received a notification on his eyepatch that he was now on the "home" dimension; the Parmeezeean dimension.
So he reaches the obvious conclusion, and glares at Morty Prime, because: "IT WAS F****** YOU?!"
...and then he gets over it because it doesn't really matter who is a clone of whom.
Points against this hypothesis:
Evil Morty never looks surprised as he passes through the portal. He goes straight from nervous to angry. I would have thought that he'd look surprised in between, as he reads the eyepatch's notification, but he... doesn't (possibly explained if the idea had crossed his head before and he just got confirmation).
Evil Morty is really cautious, wouldn't he be a lot more careful about the naturally occurring Morty he's using as a shield? Like, wouldn't he constantly and automatically check to make sure that his original Morty is still in the Parmeezeean dimension? Did Morty Prime not leave the Parmeezeean at all before the Prime Fight? (maybe... maybe he didn't! Even the spaghetti planet was not on a different dimension, it was on a different planet, which I felt was weird at the time. Naah, Rick did take Morty to Boob World once he fixed portal travel.)
We don't really know enough about how searching for another person's brainwaves/dimensional signature works. Would a search for Evil Morty and/or Morty Prime return data on the dimension they're currently in, without returning data on their dimension of origin as well?
