top 5 places to spend an afternoon?
1. One of my favourite things to do is watch a film at the BFI Southbank and then sit outside at their bar, people watching/reading, followed by a peruse of the book market and a wander along the Thames. I should do this more often!
2. St Dunstan in the East, which is a ruined church near the tower of London that was turned into a garden. Only the outer walls remain and it’s just a very peaceful lovely place to have a sit and watch the world go by.
3. I didn’t just want to say ‘at the pub’ lol. But Gordon’s Wine Bar would definitely be on the list. It’s 100+ years old and when you sit in the underground cave bit you can feel the rumble of the tube and I just love the candlelight and intimacy and it feels like it hasn’t changed in a century. Plus, wine.
4. Brighton. Wandering around the Lanes looking in all the antique shops, stopping off for a pint, walking along the beach and then early dinner at Bincho Yakitori, which is one of my favourite restaurants ever. I'm actually doing exactly this one day next week.
5. Trinity Buoy Wharf, out in the Docklands. It has London’s only lighthouse! And there’s lots of weird and interesting art installations.

PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN LONDON OR HAVE BEEN THERE!
Hi! I'll soon be in London for a few days, for the very first time. My idea is not to really plan anything, I just wanna walk around and see what this city is like. I pinned down some places I wanna visit (inspired mostly by The Beatles, Sherlock, Good Omens, Doctor Who and other british series).
Could you tell me if I'm missing something or if there are things I should avoid? Really, any do's and don'ts, I would really appreciate it. + Big Ben + Broadgate Tower + Buckingham Palace + Carlton House Terrace + Harrods + King's Cross + London Eye + Leinster Gardens + Piccadilly Circus + Reform Club + Savini at Criterion + Scotland Yard + Southbank Skate Space + Speedy's Sandwich Bar & Cafe + St Bartholomew's Hospital + St James the Less Church + St Paul's Cathedral + The Ritz Restaurant + Tower of London + Westminster + British Museum + Lincoln's Inn Library + Madame Tussauds + National Gallery + Natural History Museum + Battersea Park + Crystal Palace Park + Finsbury Park + Hyde Park + St. James's Park + Tavistock Square Gardens + West End + Royal National Theatre + Shakespeare's Globe + The Old Vic + Young Vic + Camden Town + Chinatown + Covent Garden + More London + Shad Thames + Soho + 44 Eaton Square + Berkeley Square + Russell Square + Trafalgar Square + Tower Bridge + Waterloo Bridge + Westminster Bridge + 3 Savile Row + 10 Downing St + 187N Gower St + 221B Baker St + Abingdon St + Berwick St + Whitfield St + Abbey Rd. + Cardwell Rd + Crayford Rd + Heddon St + Hornsey Rd + Eastfields Ave Also, some questions: - What's the weather like now? What should I wear? - Which are the districts I should avoid? - Should I be worried about public transport? - Where and when should I have afternoon tea? - Can I access the British Museum just to have tea/eat? - Any other suggestions on where to eat? Thank you so so much to whoever answers, either under this post or in private! 🙏

20230225. 【🎭】 // Chiaroscuro: Denys Lasdun’s National Theatre.
Beloved Southbank icon and Lasdun’s magnum opus. This is his finest work. The NT is the most magnificent summation of his favourite tropes and motifs, all synthesised into one great building of austerity and gracefulness — quintessential qualities of the architect imbued into the fabric of his architecture to immense success. A noble building conceived by a noble human being.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout his illustrious career, one of Lasdun’s most enduring architectural loves was Hawksmoor. That influence is most discernible in the NT; at the height of his design capabilities, Lasdun responded to that shadowy genius of the English Baroque with his own profound sensibilities. I have no doubt that if Hawksmoor had lived 300 years later, the respect would have been mutual. Here is an intellectual dialogue across three centuries between one inventive man and another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inside the NT, space unfolds and expands endlessly. The bulky concrete columns rise like towering trees of deep woods — perhaps a distant trace of the Gothic — while the strata terraces become labyrinthine levels joined by stairways punctured by expository interstices. One feels infinitesimally small amidst the monolithic world of rough grey concrete, made brilliantly exciting by the beautiful natural finish left by timber formwork. The spatial complexity renders the public realm another stage, on which unfolds the minutiae drama of human life. There is no better place for people watching, or else spending a peaceful afternoon, immersed in the oxymoronic solitude amongst others made possible by the building.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As night falls, the theatrics of architecture multiply tenfold; discordant shadows elongate and swell across the landscape in sensational gestures. The impressive geometries are also transformed as lights flicker on between the structural lattices. Concrete is a spectacular backdrop for dancing lights, manmade or natural.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But look now, theatregoer, the curtains are falling — time to leave the entrancing realm of elegant Brutalism and retire to the rhythm of society. Tomorrow life carries on as it always has.

Grass root with natural lac dye 🧡   A few years ago I came across some willow root growing underwater in a river in the UK and it got me thinking about the binding properties of root: What if we could grow our clothes from seed?   As an underwater photographer (my real job @zenaholloway ) I was looking for solutions to the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and I found that I could sustainably grow grass seed in beeswax moulds.

Scientists predict that nearly all the coral will be gone by 2050 due to global warming 😢 so my response is to grow a sustainable coral reef from grass root.  I want to imagine a future that still has coral reefs. They support 25% of all marine life, and are some of the most spectacular places on the planet (especially if you’re an underwater photographer 😉)   I’ll be exhibiting my ‘coral’ with Material Matters from 22-25 September, top floor at the iconic Bargehouse @oxotowerwharf on London’s South Bank.
Be sure to register early for free tickets on @materialmatters.design See you there… #saveouroceans #saveourseas #coralbleaching #coral #artforchange #ecoart #bioart #fibreart #slowart #rethink #biotechnology #naturaldye #naturaldyeing #maker #contemporarycraft #makersmovement (at The Oxo Tower, Southbank) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiVbsXjoRpF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

London has great museums, so I suggest every single one of them.
The trick to do London properly is by having a very organised route and to understand the map.
I suggest to start by the main places. So start on Trafalgar and do National Gallery, then Buckingham, St James Park, Big Ben/London Eye/Southbank. If you go back up, do the Portrait Gallery, Leicester Square, Chinatown. If you have time, I'd recommend to do the British Museum also then.
Then, on a different day, start at Blackfriars and do St Paul, Millennium Bridge, Tate Modern and Tower Bridge. While there, I'd recommend going to Borough Market, Covent Garden and maybe take the tube and do Notting Hill, Portobello, Camden Market (I'll share my secret tip and recommend stopping at this corner kiosk right before the bridge into Camden market and grab something to eat, I personally always grab veggie burgers chips and a coke. Then walk all the way across and into Primrose Hill, right on time to watch sunset).
Different date I'd suggest doing Natural History Museum and Science Museum, as they take a lot of time and are quite entertaining. If you got time, take the tube back, do Oxford Street and Hyde park for a nice end of the day.
If you got more dates, I suggest adding Greenwich into it just because it's interesting, Brixton and Abbey Road (you have to go to St John's Wood, Jubilee Line!!)
Definitely worth to have a look and check a musical in the West End, for evenings I suggest Dalston or Soho. Food in London isn't that special, so unless you've very specific places you want to go to and money to spend, best option is to eat fast food or go to small places like chippy/chicken shops. Also, Chinatown tends to have some nice options too.
If you're not from the UK, there's this thing called Meal Deal at every big supermarket chain. It's like £3.50 for a main (sandwich, pasta or salad), snack (chips, fruit, chocolate or popcorn) and a drink (all kinds). It's not a Michelin star meal but does the job and it's truly a decent meal for its price.
If you want to try a Full English, lots of decent places but Southbank has this nice cafe, forgot the bloody name sorry, that has like pods outside that look like bubbles (?!?), anyway, it's a decent price and it's nice for brekkie and pictures.
- 🐝 (i also sent you the ask about the guitar tattoo but forgot to put my emoji)
I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!
Omg this was so detailed, I will keep this one to myself for when I go to London, soon 💛💛💛💛😎
Thank you bestie! And thank you once again for the guitar tattoo tip!! 🫶🫶

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA 16-17 April 2024
We left our hotel in Taihiti at 1.30am on 15 April for a 4am flight. We flew to Auckland, New Zealand first and then immediately transferred to a flight to Melbourne, Australia. As we had crossed the International Dateline on the first flight we flew to Melbourne on the 16 April. The 15 April was lost!
As we arrived at our hotel in Melbourne by midday on the 16th April, we had the rest of the day and all day on the 17th to explore the city. Melbourne as a whole is very spread out but the city centre has many high rise buildings. The Yarra River runs through the centre of the city and the Southbank area reminded us of London with huge numbers of restaurants and has Arts facilities. Here is a view from the riverbank:
Tumblr media
There seem to be a great number of newish tower blocks and there is some quirky architecture. The river and the parks and green spaces make it an attractive city centre:
Tumblr media
This was a view from Alexandra Gardens:
Tumblr media
The city has a variety of older architecture but there is no obvious issue with building a major high rise building next to a Victorian building. This was St Paul’s Cathedral next to modern buildings. It is not as hemmed in as some older buildings:
Tumblr media
We used trams a great deal to get around the city. The central area has a free tram service! We had drinks and a wonderful meal out on the south bank area on the 16th with an old colleague and her husband who have lived in Melbourne for over 30 years.
On the morning of the 17th we took the tram to visit the Port Melbourne area. The beach looked lovely, but was empty given that summer seems over with Autumn arriving. We did note a school PE lesson using the beach area:
Tumblr media
On our return to the city centre we decided to seek out some of the specific older buildings in the city. We found the old city’s swimming baths:
Tumblr media
And here is the old prison with skyscrapers nearby:
Tumblr media
Here is the Victoria State Parliament House:
Tumblr media
In Fitzroy gardens we saw Captain Cook’s cottage which turns out to be his parents’ cottage moved from the UK to Melbourne! Although it was built in the UK in the middle of the 1700s and therefore claims to be the oldest building in Australia, it has only been in Australia since the 1930s!!!
We finished our afternoon with a visit to the Skydeck in the Eureka tower for a view of the city from a height. The view from the 88th floor was spectacular. We thought this view of the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground, the venue for the Australian Open Tennis Tournament and other Olympic sports facilities was great as dusk arrived:
Tumblr media
And the Government House in the middle of the Royal Botanic Gardens looked striking:

The Essential Role of Office Cleaning in Melbourne
Melbourne, Australia's cultural and economic hub, is home to a myriad of businesses spanning diverse industries. From the towering skyscrapers of the Central Business District to the trendy coworking spaces in Fitzroy, Melbourne's workplaces represent a dynamic tapestry of innovation and enterprise. However, amidst the hustle and bustle of corporate life, one aspect remains constant: the importance of office cleanliness. In this comprehensive exploration, we delve into the crucial role of office cleaning in Melbourne, examining its impact on productivity, employee well-being, and the overall success of businesses in this thriving metropolis.
The Melbourne Workplace Landscape:
Melbourne's corporate landscape is characterized by its diversity and dynamism. From finance and technology to hospitality and creative industries, businesses in Melbourne span a wide range of sectors. Regardless of industry, however, the need for a clean and hygienic workplace is universal. Whether it's a corporate headquarters in Southbank or a boutique agency in Brunswick, maintaining a tidy and organized office space is essential for creating a conducive work environment.
Fostering Productivity and Efficiency:
A clean workspace is more than just aesthetically pleasing; it can have a profound impact on productivity and efficiency. Studies have shown that employees are more productive in clean and clutter-free environments. In Melbourne's competitive business landscape, where every advantage counts, investing in professional office cleaning services can yield significant returns. By ensuring that workspaces are free from dust, dirt, and debris, businesses can create an environment where employees can focus on their tasks without distractions.
Promoting Employee Health and Well-being:
Employee health and well-being are paramount considerations for businesses in Melbourne, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Maintaining a clean and hygienic workplace is essential for preventing the spread of infectious diseases and safeguarding the health of employees. Regular cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces, proper ventilation, and the implementation of social distancing measures are critical practices for mitigating the risk of transmission. By prioritizing workplace hygiene, businesses can demonstrate their commitment to the health and safety of their workforce.
Upholding Corporate Image and Reputation:
In Melbourne's competitive business landscape, maintaining a positive corporate image is essential for success. A clean and well-maintained office space not only reflects positively on the company's professionalism but also enhances its reputation among clients, partners, and stakeholders. Conversely, a dirty or unkempt office can convey a negative impression and undermine the company's credibility. By investing in professional office cleaning services, businesses can ensure that their premises always present a positive and professional image to the outside world.
Customized Cleaning Solutions:
Every workplace is unique, with its own set of cleaning requirements and challenges. Melbourne's diverse workforce encompasses individuals from various cultural backgrounds, each with their own preferences and sensitivities. As such, it's essential to tailor cleaning solutions to meet the specific needs of each organization. Whether it's implementing eco-friendly cleaning practices, using hypoallergenic products, or accommodating flexible scheduling preferences, customization is key to delivering cleaning solutions that align with the values and preferences of the clientele.
Outsourcing vs. In-house Cleaning:
When it comes to office cleaning, businesses in Melbourne have the option to either outsource the task to professional cleaning companies or handle it in-house. While in-house cleaning may seem cost-effective initially, outsourcing offers numerous advantages in terms of efficiency, expertise, and convenience. Professional cleaning companies have the knowledge, experience, and specialized equipment required to deliver superior results in a timely manner. By outsourcing office cleaning, businesses can free up valuable time and resources to focus on their core activities while ensuring that their premises remain clean and hygienic.
Embracing Sustainability:
As a city known for its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, Melbourne businesses are increasingly seeking eco-friendly cleaning solutions. From green cleaning products to energy-efficient cleaning equipment, there is a growing demand for sustainable office cleaning practices that minimize environmental impact. By embracing eco-friendly cleaning initiatives, businesses can reduce their carbon footprint, conserve natural resources, and demonstrate their dedication to corporate social responsibility.
Office cleaning is an essential aspect of workplace management in Melbourne. From fostering productivity and efficiency to promoting employee health and well-being, the benefits of a clean and hygienic workspace are undeniable. As businesses navigate the challenges of a rapidly evolving business landscape, investing in professional office cleaning services is essential for maintaining competitive advantage, safeguarding employee well-being, and upholding corporate values. By prioritizing workplace hygiene and embracing sustainability, Melbourne businesses can create environments where success thrives, innovation flourishes, and excellence prevails.
