Ballo Watch, Part 1

I’ve got a busy day (shopping! orchestra concert! BFF visiting!), so I need to start posting my random Ballo thoughts now!

Embarrassing confession: the first time I watched this production, I wanted it to be visually so much more and I didn't really get it. Now I wouldn't change a single thing. Perfection. The fact the Met is replacing it makes me think maybe they don’t get it still.

Because it’s Verdi, I trust that the weird moods are, in fact, exactly right. To me, they are bizarre, but in the best way possible. And I love that this production leans into every mood change. I mean, more operas should have chorus lines with canes and top hats while discussing upcoming visits to fortunetellers who commune with Satan.

I should start carrying a skull in my purse.

Also, I’m not really into tarot, but if someone made Ballo tarot cards, I’d buy them.

Some design ideas I had for Byleth (or as I call her in my game files, Blythe) in a modern setting.

The first page is basic designs meant to fit in with the course of the story in a modern AU. The casual outfit is before she is hired, while the other two outfits are for when she's already working at the monastery. My favorite outfit there is her "Professor" outfit; she just looks really good in it.

The second page is just Miss Blythe modeling some outfits I found on Instagram thanks to a clothing brand called "Cider". Her first and second outfits stand out to me the most.

@filmmakerstephaniemartin So excited to share that episode #305 of @thecwwalker written by Blythe Ann Johnson @roobadoo87 and directed by yours truly, premieres tonight.

I had such a blast directing this episode. From collaborating with writer @roobadoo87 from day 1 of prep to prepping and scouting with Steve Robin, Phil Hardage and Ian Ellis to collaborating with this fast as lightning and very talented crew and working with this talented and giving cast. I had so much fun! Thank you Anna Fricke and Steve Robin for the opportunity. Thank you @jaredpadalecki for the laughs and setting the tone from the top on down and lastly, Thank you Walker cast and crew for welcoming me with open arms. I enjoyed every moment of it. Just FYI, I will probably edit this post tomorrow since there are 1 million people I would like to thank!!

What a beautiful tribute from this week's director, Stephanie Martin! We know Walker is a wonderful set, but it's always nice to hear. And Stephanie did a great job!
