MK1 Headcanon Dump (Non-Romantic/SFW)

Kitana and Smoke are the babies of their respective teams (from now on to be known as Team Umgadi and Team Lin Kuei). Kuai Liang is younger, but Smoke, being kidnapped adopted, is their honorary Baby Brother.

Kuai Liang's fiery powers come from their mom, who, to the Grandmaster's surprise, is/was a pyromancer.

Syzoth is the honorary fourth Lin Kuei boy. Bi-Han, Kuai Liang, and Tomas Vrbada have taken him in.

Even in his human form, Syzoth's skin gets dry, itchy, and scaly when it's time for his true form to shed.

Johnny Cage can be the meanest motherfucker in the world when he wants to be.

The Outworld throne is matrilineal, and a prince can't become king unless he has no sisters. The realm's many cultures vary on this matter, but the capital and big cities lean matriarchal. Rain feels a little henpecked at times.

Mileena has a military career, judging from the armor she wears in the Umgadi group shot. She's gone off to war more than once, leaving Kitana and Sindel to worry themselves sick over her.

Kitana is an excellent spy. She follows Mileena into the most sensitive places in Outworld, and her calm presence puts people at ease, especially around her hotheaded sister. She's also the best eavesdropper in Outworld, but you didn't hear that from me.

She also happens to have the most sass out of the entire roster.

Li Mei's shishi (Chinese lion) is female. Yes, there's a mane, but the critters often guard establishments in opposite-sex pairs and show no apparent dimorphism. How do you tell them apart? The male has his paw on a ball and the female has her paw restraining a cub.

(I'm trying to get some good Tanya ones, I promise, but they're mostly romantic/NSFW. She does have amazing skin with a jealously guarded beauty routine, and Mileena is a point of contention between her and Kitana.)

Kitana doesn't go to war unless Mileena asks her along, and even then she won't let Baby Sis on the front lines. Kitana keeps her skills sharp by helping to train new military recruits.

It’s wild how y’all will defend this woman when she doesn’t give a fuck about you. She chose to marry a sex offender, have a baby with him, on top of that associate with sex offenders and make music with them. I can’t even tell you how embarrassing it is to sit here and watch you defend a sex offender 🙈. You look goofy. Put the damn phone down and take care of your kid. (Edit: I understand that it’s rap and that 40 isn’t old. Thinking of Sub-Zero with a Snow Wraith, although it's impossible to train and achieve its cooperation, much less loyalty. What would stop Bi-Han from pushing past the expectation of the impossible to achieve what he wants? A powerful creature who works well in the environment of Arctika and is equally aggressive as the Lin Kuei Grandmaster can be. ... Thinking of Scorpion with a Singetail, considering that to ride/train one they usually have dragon-proof metal bridles that have chains, and you'll never guess who's good at using chains (along with the fact that Singetails are capable of defending themselves even when outnumbered)

They both hold the capacity to exhibit extreme damage when their rage or aggression if left uncontrolled or unresolved, at least Raiden's godly counterpart did. I'd like to think of the Skrill as Raiden attempting to be good at "controlling" his anger. Plus, to tame a skrill, would require earning its trust through being willing to sacrifice yourself for its life, which I think Raiden is completely willing to do honestly. ... Thinking of Mileena with a Changewing--- why? Because I keep thinking back to the theory where it mentioned Mileena and Tanya sneaking out one night and having a dragon that can perfectly camouflage itself, is a perfect creature to help you sneak out to hang with your girlfriend. ... Thinking of Kitana with a Hobblegrunt. I don't know if I have a specific or deeper reasoning other than the fact that I think the creature would pair well with Kitana's fans and they just look nice together. ... Thinking of Shang-Tsung with a Dramillion, Death-Gripper, or even a Snaptrapper. Considering that Snaptrappers lure their prey in with an intoxicatingly sweet smell, which matches his manipulative tendency to speak with honeyed and enticing words that make you want to agree with everything he says. Dramillions work as well since they can copy other dragons' breaths, which pairs with his ability to change into other characters and use their abilities as well. As for the Death-Gripper, I think I chose that one mainly because I think Shang Tsung would've shared similar paths with Grimmel in utilizing their own venom to control them. ... And thinking about Ermac having an Armorwing dragon that died around the same time he did, only to come back as a Boneknapper which might be representative of his own revival. (I also am a firm believer that Armorwings are somehow the same as Boneknappers)

Brief notes on MK rides:

MK11:

Johnny Cage always has the douchiest car possible in any timeline.

Kitana Kahn excels at handling mounts, drawing from the Mongol influence on Outworld, Shao Kahn, and the Tarkatans. She has one of those goofy little Outworld horses, a mare named Zuzu.

Skarlet has a very fluffy Bactrian camel that she loves lots.

Jade has a mount that is emphatically not a horse or even an equine; rather, it's either an antelope or a big cat.

Nightwolf has a sweet-ass motorcycle, the kind of hog that would make a Hell's Angel weep.

Erron named his horse Bluebonnet, because Texas. She's one of the few creatures he wouldn't ditch for better pay.

MK1:

Outworld has a ton of different mounts: different kinds of antelope, dairy animals, ratites, and massive canines, all bred for the saddle. There are also flying creatures such as manticores and rocs, and, if you're very lucky, you might be chosen by a simurgh or a qilin.

There are no saddle felines. Have you seen the way cats' shoulders go up and down? You'd be falling off 24/7.

We see carriage horses in the announcement trailer (ngl, I'm going to miss those weird dogs from MK11) I can't quite catch their coat colors, but their butts and tails suggest they're palomino.

It's tempting to headcanon Kitana as riding a horse, because they come in so many colors, and what's a princess without a stunning horse? On the other hand, non-horse mounts are dope as shit, and an oryx or stag would be really cool.

Tanya absolutely rides an antelope, either an eland or a kudu.

Li Mei rides her shishi.

No one's 100% sure what Mileena's mount is, only that it's terrifying and she probably found it in the Flesh Pits.

*A ratite is an ostrich-like bird, and the simurgh is a canine-headed bird from Persian mythology, foster mother of the hero Zac and able to grant wishes. An oryx is also an antelope, speculated to be the "unicorn" of the KJV Bible (translated as "wild bulls" in the Catholic versions).
