Going on a real rant here but fandoms(maybe not as a whole, but certainly in general) have gotten really bad about tagging and it's making them.... inhospitable, honestly?
You guys have got to start tagging things. Don't like, don't read is a foundational aspect of fandom, and it does not work if things aren't tagged. If you can write something, you had damned well better be willing to tag it. And that goes for any variety of things that you're writing.
If you're writing about a doctors visit, tag medical themes and needles and whatever else goes on. If you're writing about mental health issues you need to tag things, whether that be panic attacks or suicidal thoughts or disordered eating. if you're writing about a ship adopting a puppy, then you should tag the ship and fluff and slice of life!
Tags are for people to avoid things every bit as much as they are for people to find things. It's why people get so annoyed with people tagging characters who aren't even in the fic, they're just mentioned for 2 lines in one scene. It's also why people get pissed about people not tagging kinks, because everyone has a line in the sand somewhere, and by not tagging things, you're not letting them draw it.
And while I'm on the topic of tagging as a way to avoid content you don't want? Tagging with "Dead Dove: Don't Eat" and calling it done is not okay either. There are too fucking many people that are just not aware of how to use that as a tag.
Dead Dove: Don't Eat is not a content warning. Dead Dove: Don't Eat must be used alongside other tags. Dead Dove: Don't Eat is not any more useful as a trigger tag than a vague "dark content". Dead Dove: Don't eat is a tag that is used to make clear that all the other tags are to be taken seriously and with gravity. There is a dead dove in the bag. do not eat the dead dove. don't like what's in the bag? don't open it.
Except that there has been an influx of people who are just? not tagging beyond that, if they tag at all. You cannot say "It's what's on the tin" if you don't have anything written on the tin.
When Dead Dove as a tag is being used for absolutely everything from incest to noncon to yandere to self harm to cannibalism to explicitly written ero guro, but the people using it aren't tagging any of those things? It loses all functionality as a tag. It loses all ability to warn people away from things that they don't want to read if you aren't pairing it with actual trigger warnings.

need a fic where Gideon adopts a cat and leaves Harrow alone with it for a few hours
NO way Harrow would be normal about it, she sees something cute for the first time in her life and doesn't recognize the feeling so she'll just assume it's murderous intent and stalk that little kitty from a distance, treating it like Gideon (Vintage Edition) on the Mithraeum, ABSOLUTELY it'll be one sided psychological horror

prompt. @linament. “ tell me. do you know what it means. all these horrible things i see? ”
the scene she's in would be enough to make her suffocate, if only she wasn't so used to such environments. shams' eyes narrow, her hands brushing against her blade. although she feels no need to fully grab it, it gives her a sense of relief to know it's there. there is no point in attacking a death god, either way. what would she gain from it? [ that's what she tells herself, at least. ] shams has always wondered what color gods bleed. and now that he's right in front of her, she would rather twist the damn knife into his chest just to watch the end result.
what a twisted little thought, she thinks. in the end, it wasn't the statement alone that pushed her to be so distrustful. the image in front of her was what kept her so silent, as if she wanted to reveal the outright rage she feels, that she keeps concealed at all times. but she knows better that to do that. in front of her is a god. one of the death gods. with all the stories she has heard about them and their tyranny, she cares not about whether his words remain the truth. whatever the old god says at this point won't really matter much to her. all she can feel is fury misdirected.
despite it all, it is only fury. there is no sadness, no grief, no desire. has it really been that long, then? she shakes her head. “ hm. ” she tilts her head. “ spare me the theatrics. i care not. ” at least not like this. it's funny, really. she has always heard the stories, about how the fae come to the three gods, worshipping them to the point of no return. and yet, here he stands, telling her of a prophecy that includes only her. is she to believe any word that shall come from his mouth? “ why am i to believe a being such as you? do you take me as a fool? ”
the illyrian stands firmly [ unmoving ]. “ it's interesting, really. the high fae have done everything to treat you as gods and now you wish to destroy it all? what a funny creature you are. ” she clicks her tongue then. “ do you not control fate after all? if what you say is true, do you not have it in your power to do it by yourself? ” what a statement. a bold one, that is, but a statement nonetheless. it is also the first genuine sentence she has given him since the moment his true form appeared in front of her.
what a wretched woman she had become. she opens and ravages whatever is in front of her with no care. will today be the time where she does?
she knows, of course, that when they speak of fate, they speak of being all - knowing. when they say he sees the past and present, it shows greater power than just simple divination. he's not a seer, after all. the question, however, isn't directed at his abilities. why is it that an ancient being like him requires the help of faeries who have spent their entire lives blindly worshipping the death gods? does he not have all the power in the world to end the narrative himself? and most importantly: “ there is something you are not telling. ”
