Nora: I bet Jaune Could take Ironwood in a fight.
Jaune: Nora no!
Winter: You must have a great deal of confidence in Mr. Arc. Why is it you believe that?
Jaune: We really don't need to do this!
Nora: Well, Fearless leader has a Shield, which means bullet will do pretty much nothing, He's spry enough to avoid most gunfire, and the General could easily run out of bullets before Jaune manages to close the distance entirely.
Winter: But as Jaune could be knocked back by the Gravity dust infused ones.
Nora: He Held a Charging Nuckelavee back! Gravity dust is nothing!
Jaune: Nora Stop!
Nora: And as for the Cannon, well, Jaune tanked a hit from Cordovin's Mech while amping my own aura so we could survive and still had some to spare, plus that thing takes a while to charge a single shot, giving Jaune ample time to get close and/or recover aura!
Winter: Hmm. Fair Points. What had you so hung up on this conversation, Mister Arc?
Jaune: ... Well ... Given my luck I'd figure that the general would've-
Ironwood: Huntsman Jaune Arc, report to the training field immediately. And Good Luck.
Jaune: ... Overheard.
Jaune: Nora?
Nora: *Smug* Yes?
Jaune: No Pancakes for a week.
Nora: NOOOOOO!

Listen, will I ever be unemotional about Lilia being constantly surprised by Silver's love/care/worry for him? No.
Lilia has lived a lifespan beyond the possible contemplation of any mortal and even those of his own kind— fae children speak the name of General Vanrouge in hushed, awed tones, their country's valiant hero who served to protect them all in the wars with humanity. His status is legendary (they don't know how his bones ache at night), his reputation of a fierce warrior and shrewd tactician proceeding him no matter where he travels (they don't realize he wakes from dreams more often than not with shouts tangled in his teeth and a hand reaching for a sword that's no longer there).
Not only is he a trusted advisor to his country's ruling family once he retires from the warfront (a shock to all— General Vanrouge has become synonymous with bloodshed and victory; how will the country survive without its greatest defender?), he serves as a guardian to their only heir after an unfortunate fate has befallen the prince's parents. It's not a role he can imagine himself ever to be properly suited for (can he hold a creature that's only known innocence and peace? does he have the right to?), but the Queen is a dear friend by now, and far be it from him to refuse such a sorrowful request.
And yet, despite his days spent with the princeling, guiding and shaping the capricious future of their kingdom, he has no family to truly call his own. He would never encourage the child to call him Father or step into a role where one had been before him; Malleus' parents were brilliant, bright beings in their own right, their son should not be allowed to forget them.
It is not until he stumbles across an abandoned human child on a spring day in the woods that he will finally understand what the poets mean when they speak of a love so unconditional, no storm could ever douse its spark. The irony could not be lost upon him— he has slain countless thousands of this infant's brethren, and it smiles up at him as if Lilia has hung the moon in the sky and painted the stars there just for its happiness. It's a smile that exists only for him, for Lilia, orchestrator of tragedies. A smile that sees through every mask he has for every role that he plays, and finds a home within the tainted nature of his soul.
The boy loves him, wants to protect him, wants to worry for him in ways that no child should have to sacrifice for their parent. And as much as it's wondrous, it's so very, very frightening.

X reads a lot of like, object stories and fairytales and tries to create the most convoluted romantic situations to be able to like, hold four's hand or something. things like that .
i think like as algebraliens neither four or x put a lot of stock in typically seen as romantic gestures like kissing, holding hands, etc. i think i talked abt this before but showing love in the most simple ways. but i think like traditional romantic gestures getting put into X's brain would sort of make him fixate on creating it when it isn't really needed.
and coming to the conclusion that theres no reason to put a name to what their relationship is...it just is. and then they can go eat dirt or something or level buildings as a date activity
but they both still like, appreciate over the top object stuff sometimes. mistletoe for example

So what you’re telling me is that PC can’t do a pub crawl with any of the school love interests, because the only one with the tolerance to visit multiple pubs in a night will start a fight, get naked, and get PC naked, not necessarily in that order.
Pretty much, in what order, you may ask? Wouldn’t be surprised if Whitney were to say ‘fuck it’, mid drink and just start stripping off their clothes and obviously, you’re trying to hold them back because this is still a public place after all and Landry won’t be so happy with a naked delinquent on the loose.
Leads to the weirdest scenario on earth, well, not if it involves Whitney, the silly little exhibitionist that apparently like to bare themselves to everyone wherever, whenever. If the motherfucker decides to fight someone naked, I am not backing their ass up this time. (no pun intended) They can deal with that on their own, couple of friends jumping in on the brawl for the bully’s sake, leaning back to enjoy the show with a drink in hand. (it’s probably water, can’t stand the fucking taste of alcohol, not even if it’s sweet)
An interesting scene to think about would be Whitney actually getting into a fight at the pub, say for whatever reason, probably because of some stupid shit or for the sake of being sappy, we’ll say that it’s for your honor. Stupid bitch says an off-hand comment about your body and the blonde completely loses it, punches them straight in the face, knocking a few teeth out and landing on the dirty floor with a resounding thud.
Starts an actual full-on brawl, punches and kicks flying everywhere, glass shattering and messing up the entire place. (Whitney is still clothed btw, dw) Of course, ends in them getting kicked out along with you, having to drag them to the hospital, Whitney insisting that it’s fine and they’ll just fucking walk it off despite all the bruises and blood littered over their face and split knuckles.
Maybe you settle them down onto the park bench instead, disheveled blonde hair completely obscuring their vision now as they look up to you with dried blood on their lips. Tell them a quick thanks about defending you back there, the bully flushed and drunk, saying that it’s nothing.
Not like they’ll ever let anyone insult their slut, only Whitney can do that.

You guys remember, “I have seen the acorn before the oak”, right? When Madoc came to visit Eva in the prologue of The Cruel Prince?
Apparently one method of tricking a changeling child into revealing their identity is to pretend to cook a meal for many people in an eggshell. The changeling, upon seeing this, will, in astonishment, say
Acorn before oak I knew,
An egg before a hen,
But I never heard of an eggshell brew
A dinner for harvest men.
or something along those lines, thus implicating him.
This is from a Celtic fairytale titled Brewery of Eggshells and is from Thomas Crofton Croker’s first volume of Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland which was published in 1825.
I think Holly Black might have seen this Facebook post because it has the EXACT same words in it and was posted in 2012. 6 years before the publication of The Cruel Prince.
Thoughts?
P.S. I don’t think anyone else has interpreted the quote in this way but @rhysiedarling has written a particularly interesting piece where she refers to it as an example of foreshadowing.

i like to think that in universe, the scenes inside mike's head are a) animated/cartoon, and b) questionably canon. like they asked him a few questions to get a general idea and then just animated whatever they needed for the plot

How Liminal & Why
The following is based off of common hc within the dp x dc fandom.  Featuring Anger Management (Jason x Jazz)
We have liminality: people exposed to enough ectoplasm that something within them changes.
Jazz is liminal
Jason is liminal
Jazz has not died
Jason has died
Jazz has most likely consumed ectoplasm due to her parents trying to cook with the stuff
Jason has not likely consumed the stuff
According to the fandom, Amity Park has ambient ectoplasm due to the portal and/or AP being a natural thin spot. Wouldn't that make the rest of town liminal?
If Jazz is known to have sharper teeth, better vision, a little bit stronger but has not died is she the same level of liminal as Jason, who I repeat died and resurrected via the Pits (also fandom hc has corrupted ectoplasm)? For someone to be liminal, on a boundary, are they to be alive but still have heightened abilities?
If someone like Jazz is called liminal, as per fandom, she's NOT a halfa, nor borderline one just has Essense of ghost like abilities.
Let's say we take Jason's liminal status, and give him a little extra, a more borderline halfa, but still not quite. Some semblances of intangibility, invisibility, a more gliding effect instead of flight or hovering.
Jazz would be ghost powers liminal, while Jason would be halfa liminal? Maybe? Or since Jason remains in Gotham, as per fandom (mostly), is thin in ambient ectoplasm, it equals it out. Each are powers liminal.
Jazz Liminality:
Heightened senses (spacial awareness? Night vision? Hearing?)
Strength increase
Sharp canines/fangs
Scary eyes?
Sensing other liminals/ghosts?
Jason Liminality:
Heightened senses (spacial awareness? Night vision? Hearing?)
Strength increase
Scary eyes
Sensing other liminals/ghosts (could be partial to awareness--> particularly towards Danny, but not Jazz?)
Sharp canines/fangs?
Jazz grew up around ectoplasm, clean ectoplasm, possibly consumed the stuff, and Amity Park is ambient ectoplasm. She has not died, yet she has traits of something other, something more. She probably had to learn how to defend and fight fairly quickly in a short amount of time. Gaining more exposure in a short couple of years. Not as much as her brother who is a halfa due to high voltage accident with ectoplasm, but definitely more than the rest of town. Would possession count as increased ectoplasm exposure? Would she be liminal but just within her spirit, unless consumption or danger of BBP (Blood Borne Pathogen)?
Jason grew up in the streets, learning hard and quick before being picked up and trained. If Gotham has barely any ambient ectoplasm with an already volatile kid, would the rest of the city be the same? One would assume it's so tiny that there isn't enough to measure, nor make a difference, maybe it's why Gotham is violent the way it is? He died, violently, but due to reality altering he resurrected, then brought back to health, though wrong, from something called the Lazarus Waters. Corrupted but unknown why? Were the violent final moments enough to bring forth liminality, though by all purposes it should be minor? The only symptom being the scary eyes when under intense emotions, even increased strength, lashing out when angry (per fandom’s hc of the corrupted waters causing the intense lash out).
While Jazz (per fandom) has been around ectoplasm in large and constant doses her liminality is there, stronger due to being exposed by fresh non corrupted ectoplasm, and she's been possessed, though unknown if just possession is enough to cause exposure. Common liminality in her is increased senses, strength, canines being borderline fangs, eyes flashing green (sometimes), though unable to sense other liminals and/or ghosts. Sometimes she gets night vision and better hearing.
Jason (per fandom), just dying with some sort of ectoplasm is enough to become liminal, no matter how corrupted. Common liminality in him is flashing of eyes when angry, increased strength, senses, and can sense other ghosts, normally Danny (due to his halfa status?), but not commonly towards Jazz or other liminals. Another commonality in the fandom is the corrupted ectoplasm from the pits is purified by/with the help of Danny. If the once corrupted ectoplasm is now pure, he can become a halfa, but based on other authors he's not quite there. At this point he is more liminal than Jazz, despite her having been exposed more often and in greater amounts.
At this point I can say this. Dying and being resurrected can increase one’s liminal status but it also depends on the duration and amount of ectoplasm. As if there's something else there, but also something more. Is the turning point an element mix with ectoplasm, whether corrupted or not can create a potential halfa, but it should be activated to get a true halfa? As for the liminal's abilities, it stems from the individual's already set physical attributes.
Jason can already fight, how to survive the street, how to be hyperaware of one's surroundings. This is why he may be able to sense other ghosts. Compared to his liminal status, Danny is dangerous but at the same time he's still very young. While he still has to learn and train, for new abilities and strengths, the initial knowledge of how is already there. It's just building off from that.
Jazz isn't much of a fighter, well she is, but she doesn't need to use it all the time, thus when she becomes severely contaminated, it grows with her, with her strength. While that knowledge is there, the knowledge of being hyper-aware was never taught, because she never had to be until the ghosts became a bit more of a problem. It was never already learned, so she may become sensitive, but she might never get a sense of sorts.
Are the other Batfam liminal? Would Dick have a higher tolerance of electricity since he uses them? Would Tim have a connection with computers and technology similar to Technus, though not to the same extent? Bruce and/or Cass being able to blend into shadows a little better? What of Damian or Steph? How would liminality effect Duke?
Are Sam and Tucker liminal due to their extended possession from Undergrowth and Duulaman respectively? Sam having a better understanding of what plants need? While Tucker has a better knowledge of how monuments of Egypt were constructed?

Random thing, but in my continued search for things to base Cookies off of, I found something that I thought could fit Second Watcher Cookie, that being kokuto, also known as black sugar. From what I understand it’s basically just unrefined cane sugar made in Japan, more specifically Okinawa
This is what it looks like
Tumblr media
I dunno, I just thought it’d was neat and could work as his name
And also because now I want to change what I used to call Second Watcher, Toffee Cookie, into this. Though I haven’t figured out which is better, Black Sugar Cookie or Kokuto Cookie

🚨
so, after tomorrow there's two posts left of this segment and then the buffer runs out. I'm not sure how many scenes/segments that's gonna be but I may have to split it (I haven't started it yet lol). It may also be a while. Who knows. And honestly, given the length of it, there may be 1 post a day instead of every other day.
I know the story isn't everyone's cup. I've said that several times and it's pretty clear. (and also, it turns out that this story is v. personal and Ill maybe discuss that when its all said and done... it's nothing terrible!) and it's caused me to be kind of shy about talking/hyping it up. Feels like I'm just chucking this thing into the void with the countless tzrs (I know it doesn't help me in the slightest and its annoying, etc etc.)
Theres some heavy things in there!! But, y'know, this has to happen I think.
So let me thank anyone who's reading it, reblogged it or remotely interested in it. I'm positive yall got something to ask. Or even tell me what do *you* (🫵) think?
tl;Dr -- last part will be posted on the 6th and that'll be it (for now).

One of the reasons why I wanna mod so bad in ffxiv is so I can give my Au Ra’s / WoL’s a xenomorph tail.
And muscles.

Something Remembered gushing: First of all, I LOVE that you flipped the script and had it so that Zelda lost her memories. I haven’t seen it done a lot (and done so well!) so it was really unique and interesting. I also loved the range of emotions you were able to capture, from happiness to love to sadness and anger, and all through a surprisingly seamless mixture of sign language and speaking. You did a marvelous job and if you ever do a continuation where Zelda meets (or remeets) Link’s family, let me know!
Oh you're going to make me combust with your compliments for my fic! I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for running this event! It was fun to write for and participate in!

You guys rlly don't realise how much knowledge is still not committed to the internet. I find books all the time with stuff that is impossible to find through a search engine- most people do not put their magnum opus research online for free and the more niche a skill is the less likely you are to have people who will leak those books online. (Nevermind all the books written prior to the internet that have knowledge that is not considered "relevant" enough to digitise).
Whenever people say that we r growing up with all the world's knowledge at our fingertips...it's not necessarily true. Is the amount of knowledge online potentially infinite? Yes. Is it all knowledge? No. You will be surprised at the niche things you can discover at a local archive or library.
