I'm always a sucker for writing FCG with Ashton. This one is geared towards my Accidental Ascension AU, but honestly half-fits canon given Ashton does have (currently) unawakened titan powers and their barely understood half-beacon brain.

“Promise me you won’t go tryin’ to continue the titan’s fight with the gods now that you’ve got more power,” Fresh Cut Grass begs their best friend.

“Wasn’t even on my mind,” Ashton reassures them.

“Pinky promise?” FCG asks, metal digit extended.

“Sure. I promise I won’t fight a god unless they try to fuck us over first,” Ashton agrees, stone rattling against steel as he hooks the aeormaton’s pinky with his own.

The little robit pumps their connected hands. 

“And don’t you dare forget,” FCG says with a satisfied nod.

“I won’t,” Ashton grins back.

we have caterators, but what about lizarderators? some thoughts below about what this would be like as an AU

Set before the mass ascension. Most of them are first-generation purposed beings. I imagine the ancients used them much like we use dogs, having a variety of reasons they might create them. Moon & Pebbles: Pebbles has the rot, Hunter-style, but it is triggered later in life and isn't as aggressive as Hunters. Moon and Pebbles are created by an iterator, and Moon looked after Pebbles after his creation. Moon could be either cyan or blue, but wouldn't change her storyline much. There's an incident that causes them to run away and make their way down towards the surface. During the incident, or as they are on their Journey, Pebbles and Moon get split up and Moon gets hurt, and it was Pebbles' fault. Suns: I couldn't decide between yellow or red. Yellow!Suns, for some reason or other, have lost their pack. Finds Pebbles and eventually helps him find Moon and NSH, they end up becoming 'pack'. Similarly to canon, becomes close to FP, and also accidentally triggers his rot. For Red!Suns, it's very similar, but instead of a 'looking for pack' storyline, it focuses more on trying to overcome their red-lizard violent instincts. NSH helps a lot with that, after they meet him.

NSH: He's a green lizard and was kept for company. His ancient would dress him up (not included in the picture, but he does have his purple bow!). After meeting Moon, he is convinced to follow her down to the surface and helps her find her brother.

UI: They are a show-lizard (which is pretty taboo) and their ancient takes them to underground shows to show them off. They pretend to be pedigree, but they are actually a stray - but their appearance tends to convince people. Somehow involved in the incident that causes Pebbles and Moon to run away, and reluctantly follows their path afterwards. Wind: I just really wanted to draw a train lizard and it fit Wind the best. I made them leucistic to fit their "grey" name. White, however, might be the more typical type for them. Not much thought on their history yet. Perhaps they live on the surface already and help the 'house-lizards' survive? SOS: Again, not really developed right now. Perhaps created by the same iterator as Moon and Pebbles, either for the same purpose as they were or to hunt down and retrieve them?

Battery anon again, yes self aware au is still strangling me.

I feel like a neat idea is combining the Yandere au with it.

Imagine- MC has been playing crk for a while. The cookies from newer updates would be more normal, and frankly quite alarmed in regards to the other Yan's behaviour, while some from the earliest are pretty much too far gone.

Or, if we don't want to go that route, tie it to a game mechanic, the more times a cookie gets ascended or levelled up, the more yandere they get.

The leveling up part reminded me of my Jimin cookie that's level 17 from working at the sheep farm constantly help-

Ok I did a bit of update research, and the Odyssey is roughly the exact middle point.

So all cookies from that release are like mildly obsessed. They say voice lines that sometimes accidentally mention you directly. Any gachas, they'll try their best to be pulled rather than the new cookies.

Now those from like the earliest updates like Pure Vanilla or even Espresso straight up are menaces. They always try to hack the game developers into changing the whole course of the game. (Pure Vanilla would definitely make it a Fight Dark Enchantress game while also a dating sim story with him istg)

The early update cookies also try to get buffs in their power/skill. So that you use them more in the arena or anything really. (Remember when Cotton was the best healer? Then all of the sudden it became Pure Vanilla again because of a buff? Hm- suspicious isn't it? /hj)

Meanwhile the new cookies are absolutely confused, and don't know what to do. (Until they slowly notice you...)

I actually really love the leveling up idea.

Your arena cookies are definitely the most down bad. They'll give you all the creepy voice lines after every win.

Also, every time you feed a cookie, little hearts float around for a split second.

Oh and ascensions? They're all heart eyes.

anyways this is glass incident, she/her, one of eleven rivers little siblings! she and her brother no long nights were constructed by flowers to assist rivers with his work (much to rivers chagrin)

she is carefree and laid-back, and is very much the type of person to take any negative feelings and quash them for later rahter than deal w them now (later never comes). she can be a bit socially awkward in the sense where she has absolutely zero filter and just says what shes thinking, resulting in accidentally being rude sometimes and not at all meaning to she can also be rude on purpose sometimes for sure, and although she likes to swallow her emotions she can have a pretty fast temper sometimes! she gets mad quickly and can have trouble controlling her impulsive responses

she really likes creatures and wildlife, and gets very easily distracted analyzing genetic codes and such. long after the mass ascension she allows a colony of slugcats to move into her structure. one slugpup who she lovingly names fuzzling takes to her as a mother figure, and the rest of the slugcats tend to her sort of like they would a wise elder i guess??? lots of them hang out in her puppet chamber

in off string au she is Elated by the idea of being able to adventure and explore. she adapts to the brain shrink shockingly, almost disturbingly well

History: The iterators were created by ancient civilizations, made to solve problems, seek solutions, manage political discourse, and so on. As time passed, these civilizations left their iterators to continue iterating on The Great Problem: How does one permanently break the cycle without dipping into the void sea? Iterators across the lands have tried and tried, but they could not find the solution, and self-destruction is programmed into them as taboo. This went on for quite the millennia, until one iterator sought the solution in the form of a proposed modified organism, The Triple Affirmative: a confirmation that a solution has been found, affirmative that the solution is portable, and affirmative that a technical implementation is possible and generally applicable. Most of Sliver's equipment has eroded, so her work is based on what is salvageable- she created The Saint, a young naiive slugpup who was trained the basic principles of tearing away from worldly attachments. These teachings were harsh and deeply affected Saint, as many iterators generally do not have sympathy for living creatures and see them as tools. After learning the principles, Sliver sent Saint off to visit the void sea and receive the powers of bringing forth ascension to others. After coming back to great success, Sliver tries telling the other iterators her findings. The young enraged Saint turns their back on her, forcefully ascending their creator before she could say anything more than that she simply found the solution. Saint grew up not knowing what to truly do with their life, and their past echoes to them about their purpose. They go on a lengthy mission to reclaim their godly powers that was lost through time in order to ascend and free others of their burdens- their own loose version of such a purpose. They meet a troubled slugcat named Artificer and befriends them after calming them. They eventually grew attached and became lovers. Artificer helped Saint throughout their journey, not knowing what the real reason was but staying loyal to them because they cared about them. Saint, throughout, kept the truth to themselves, as they fear that by them knowing- it would make things difficult. Once Saint reached maximum karma, their initial purpose set up by Sliver kicks up and Saint forcefully ascends Artificer in the hopes that it would free them from the pain. Saint then journeys to the void sea where they can ascend, but something goes wrong and Saint finds themself on the place where they are. To their horror, they have become stuck in their own cycle and quite literally. They have been through many iterations, and many timelines. Saint has attempted to ascend themselves many times to no avail, until they finally give up and find themselves on the timeline this AU currently sits on. Although many of Saint's past friends do not remember who they were, one of these friends remembered some events that transpired, and this one was Monk. Saint was very close to Monk and taught them a lot of the things they were curious about, but Saint accidentally caused Monk to gain ascension powers and bite in that forbidden fruit of knowledge that Saint waivers with. Saint ascending Monk at this state has caused them to remember their previous iteration, and has only further caused Monk to become similar to Saint's circumstance. Nowadays, Saint is careless about whatever happens to them, but is wary about Monk's wellbeing enough to make them care about them still.

Personality: Saint is calm, serious, soft-spoken and knowledgable, but can be sassy, careless, sarcastic, and tense. They perpetuate in the idea of freedom, doing whatever they please because whatever they do matters not to them (it will all just be reset), though they feel as trapped as anyone else despite their god complex. They are denying of being in a pity party, as they do not like seeing themselves as inferior, especially to the cycle that traps them. They are not trusting of anyone, in fact, and is extremely closed-off about themselves towards others. They do care about others however, as they continue to stay close to what they describe "the husks of friends they once knew and "killed" but forgotten". They don't like seeing them suffer, but they don't know what to do to stop that completely. They are quite the conflicted and confused individual.

Biology: Unlike many common slugcats, Saint has extreme levels of fur, which keeps them warm. They have an extremely strong tongue that can extend and grab onto things, allowing them to swing their body around with it when attaching themselves to a wall or ceiling. They were engineered to not eat meat to decrease violent instincts, causing them to have allergic reactions when consuming them. They have extreme levels of sight, smell, taste, and hearing, but isn't too sensitive about these senses. Saint has the abilities of ascending others, in the form of fast beams controlled by the wave of their finger. At maximum capacity, it basically frees anyone from their own cycles, meaning that it can permanently kill them for good. Any capacity lower than that, in which Saint can manually configure, will just knock the target unconscious or kill them but not permanently depending on how high that capacity is. This strange power allows Saint to levitate, with their eyes open and glowing brightly. Being in this state does have a cooldown due to Saint's (im)mortal body holding them back. While Saint is able to dip in the void sea and attempt ascension themselves, they are unable to be fully realized and they always find themselves at a certain beginning, creating a new timeline to sit in.

Appearance: Saint is a green fluffy slugcat with a medium sized snout, heterochromic eyes (their left is blue and their right is yellow), and a lean hourglass stature. Their head is x-shaped (the legs of the x are tufts of cheek fur and ears), and they have 5 eyes (the three eyes on their forehead are always closed unless they activate their ascension abilities) They prefer wearing cloaks, gowns and other free-flowing clothing, though they're fine with wearing anything. They are an adult.

Relationships: Monk - Close Friends - Saint is unsure why the persistent and kind slugcat sounds forgiving to them even after knowing what has transpired in their previous timeline. Regardless, Saint is kind to Monk and openly cares about them, unlike the rest of the slugcats. Artificer - Complicated - Someone they once loved- they were the same person but they're different. They're not theirs. They're struggling to let go of it and all that frustration is built to become despising. Yet… They pity them, and buried in that pity, anger, and grief is care. Hunter - Complicated - A suffering soul who insists on living on. Saint once ascended them in a previous timeline, but has figured that it isn't their problem to deal with anymore. Gourmand - Complicated - They are envious of them and a little sickened how they can easily "brush things off". Rivulet - Complicated - They think they are annoying. Spearmaster - Complicated - They are angry that they are not angry at their own creator who Saint believes has wronged them. Survivor - Complicated - They are worried about how would they feel on what they have done to their sibling, if they ever find out. Nightcat - Complicated - They are a bit wary of their mysterious presence, but nonetheless doesn't care much of them. Enot - Complicated - They do not enjoy their air and feels uneasy around them, but at the same time finds them pathetic.

I just had the idea of a ghost Xie Lian au.

This would develop in the present, however before Xie Lian's 3rd ascension. (Meaning that instead of a god, he's a ghost).

He is known as the "Pristine mist of misfortune" or "the scrap ghost", whose tears become mist that will bring you bad luck. After wandering the world for years, he arrives at the ghost city and meets Hua Cheng. He is filled with a bittersweet feeling because of the joy of meeting Xie Lian, and the pain of knowing he's a ghost.

TGCF spoilers ahead.

First of all: Can Xie Lian even turn into a ghost? I guess so. Inside the Kiln, White No-Face wanted him to turn into the ghost king, so I guess he can do that.

We know that there are several moments where Xie Lian 'died'.

When the second wave of the human face disease came, Wu Ming sacrificed himself, something Xie Lian would forever regret and remember, one reason why he might have decided to keep being a good person.

However, he considers himself a person unworthy of living, someone bad and disgusting. After what happened at the gilded banquet, he was 'murdered'.

Maybe his body won't die, but his soul gave up. As a ghost, his reason to keep living is, to his perception 'to pay for his crimes with his suffering'. The more hurt he feels, the more powerful he actually is.

Maybe in his spirit form, RuoYe still accompanies him.

Also, his habilites as a ghost include making himself invisible, levitating in the air, and releasing misfortune on others.

After years of wandering, he accidentally ends up in the Ghost City. Obviously he is not well received by the other ghosts at the beginning, but once inside the city, how would Hua Cheng, lord of the city not notice his presence?

After saving him from other ghosts, Xie Lian is ashamed to try to leave without paying in return.

He considers this attractive red king someone worthy of praise, but Hua Cheng is EXTREMELY uncomfortable with that.

Xie Lian admires this person, but even with his lips curled up, Hua Cheng's gaze reveals a hint of sorrow and melancholy he doesn't understand. (Obviously he's upset he's dead).

This is why he asks his good ol' friend Black Water to pretend to attack his city so he could use Xie Lian's help. Once he saves the city, Hua Cheng starts praising him instead.

Xie Lian doesn't want him to be so formal, so Hua Cheng asks the same in return. This is how their "Gege" "San Lang" relationship begins!!

Shi Qingxuan shows up with Lang Qingqiu for the investigation like the original version btw.

The bride kidnapping thing still happened; Feng Xing and Mu Qing investigate and discover the relation of the case to the green ghost.

At some point, Qi Rong makes his appearance from Xie Lian's side (also revealing his past). "Oh so you were the Crown Prince!!" Pretends Hua Cheng.

After the mess is mostly cleared up, Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are ready to leave.

But as they are exiting the place, in one of the caves, Feng Xing, Mu Qing and Xie Lian find each other.

He tried to pretend not knowing anything, but it was too late.

Mu Qing "..."

Feng Xing "...your highness?"

"Why are you with Blood Rain Tanhua?"

"Are you..." A ghost? Dead? You don't ask those things so directly!!

Xie Lian feels dread and turns invisible with his ghost skill. He runs away and Hua Cheng, afraid to lose him again, chases after him.

4. A) This fic is a modern au, I think that both LZ and WY are cultivators, WY specifically is kind of a witch (?), he messes with dark magic and lives in a haunted town or something like this. There's a reencounter between the two (I don't know if by chance or if LZ tracks WY) and at some point LZ gets worried that WY is sorrounded by ghosts/resentful energy, but he is aware of the situation. I think WY even has a pet crow/cat, but I'm not sure. And the plot may envolve him being isolated, running away or being expelled because of his methods of cultivation. Also, I'm pretty sure there's a fanart featured in the story that has Wangxian and the haunted place WY lives/takes care.

B) The second one is also a modern AU, LZ father is very sick, almost dying and stays in the hospital all the time, but LZ refuses to visit him because of the resentment caused by the situation with his parents. He meets WY in this same hospital, I don't remember if he works there, but I think it has something to do with Yanli. They connect through this situation, LZ eventually goes see his father and I think WY has some part in convincing him to do so.

C) Another modern AU, Lan Qiren is a priest/owns a church, the Lans are very religious and that includes LZ. WY is kind of a delinquent, he starts to go to the church and begins a friendship with LZ, who is very upright and frigid like in canon, plus the super religious part. I think LQ even says WY is a bad influence bacause of his behaviour and the things he did/does, but LZ realizes he is not that bad and there's probably some toutoring/disciplining envolved from his part. They are both teens or young adults and I specifically remember a scene when the two have sex inside the church with LZ being on the receiving end.

With wwx and lwj being opposing generals on opposite sides of a war. However, they both respect each other and have worked together to save innocent lives in the past.

In the end the Lan win the war and lwj takes wwx under his protection as a sort of war prize. This fic is very heavy on the Jiang and Jin bashing and in the end I think the Jiangs and Jins have to stand trial for their crimes during the war. While wwx is under lwj’s protection and never committed any crimes thus is not punished. Hnrgh. Haven't really given this AU much thought recently because things keep changing in new and fairly interesting ways that completely clash with some of the base stuff going on. Namely Fearne upgrading with Titan Power rather than getting a Fey upgrade (which I still feel would have been cooler for her).

Anyways!

A thought that was kind of bouncing around is that Imogen would try to push Delilah out as Laudna's Warlock Patron and take that spot, much like Fjord, the Wildmother, and Uk'otoa.

But then we found out that Delilah is (supposedly) acting as Laudna's tether to Life while Laudna tethers Delilah to the Material Plane. Also that Laudna... doesn't really seem to want to get rid of Delilah? In part for power, and in part because she's essentially been Stockholm Syndromed into wanting to keep Delilah around by 30 years of isolation with no ability to actually escape Delilah ever.

Which moves us to this: a Psychic/Storm demi-god/lesser deity, while much more powerful than a necromancer archmage high peon of a newborn god, doesn't really have the same kind of essence to tether an undead life.

So while I think Laudna would agree to letting Imogen try to oust Delilah, seeing as she never denies Imogen anything (even when it's not really advisable for one, the other, or both), I don't think it would go well.

Now don't get me wrong, ascended!Imogen has plenty of juice to sever Delilah's connection and rip her out of Laudna. But she doesn't have the follow-up skillset to re-anchor Laudna to Life. Or fix the damage forcefully yanking Delilah out would probably do given they're entwined souls at this point.

Lucky for them, Ashton has a now super-juiced half-Beacon brain, and consecution is very much about tethering Life. And they know all about living with hastily, desperately mended cracks.

So since Laudna is interested in living and Not Disappointing Imogen, she makes a Pact with Ashton for power and life in exchange for (continuing their) friendship and helping him keep his people safe when asked (which she'd do anyways because they've got essentially the same friend group).

As for how that effects Laudna's warlock powers, I've discussed a similar idea here.

As someone also in the ruanliu pits, I would like to note that if Ruan mei were to succeed, with her potential path she would mostly likely absorb the path of abundance due to the overlap in concept. This would ostensibly fulfill jingliu's–who's already shown her willingness to work with other factions/aeons to bring down yaoshi–goal, and Ruan mei gains her very own, very potent, attack dog (with whom she, on a meta level, actually go pretty well together). There very well may be a path for them to be working together despite seemingly conflicting ideals. The unfortunate thing with Ruan mei potentially succeeding is that it would likely lead to the erasure of her identity/self after ascension. Though if there were to be anyone who could circumvent that little caveat, it would be her. Just interesting things to think about.

because i've been thinking about this a lot. my thoughts on it is that ruan mei might view both the abundance and propagation paths as having been, if not failures, narrow-minded in their applications of the concept. she herself speaks of death being an inevitable aspect to life's balance, a necessity almost.

notably, there's no aeon of death, which would be almost a needed counterbalance if she wished to become something akin to an aeon of life/cultivation -- to grow the perfect orchid, pruning is a must.

aeons are gods of concepts, in a way. propagation arose from the desire of one lonely individual, the last of their species, not wanting to be alone anymore. propagation was never truly about life, yet it ties in a lot to abundance and ruan mei. i do in part suspect we'll see that abundance was an off-shoot or evolution spurred from the propagation, as the abundance didn't exist during the swarm disaster era. so, by extension, ruan mei's desire to understand and take apart these concepts reflects her desire to embody a concept of her own. but she's so meticulous about it, intentional. she doesn't want to replicate "prior mistakes".

in the fic i've written i toy with the idea of jingliu becoming ruan mei's attack dog, her sword, and her counter-balance. she prunes what ruan mei cultivates. after 1.4's story quest i floated the idea jingliu might, due to her singular purpose and hellbent ideals, accidentally end up becoming an aeon even as she loathes the way their paths determine other's destinies. and that would be such an interesting au idea to explore too; aeon of life and death interlocked in a constant dance, cultivating and pruning, seeding and withering, blooming and rotting.

there's already a quiet undercurrent of balance, of yin and yang to their current paths, hence my interest in them. one hellbent on killing an aeon, the other on becoming one.

both were created for the same purpose- ascending iterators

saint was unable to. they can ascend any creature except for iterators and well. yk the ones you already cant saint is NOT the focus here though :3

enot DID have the ability to do so, but it backfired, as sos didnt realize it could only be used once. the ascension kind of used the puppet as a way to access the rest of the structure, shutting it all down and ascending the iterator (guh idk the specifics there)

her intention was to have them try it out on like. a creature. but while talking to him, she turned to sos and accidentally ascended HER.

in those few moments before everything shut down, she sent out the triple affirmative- turns out it was false, as the ability was used once and never again.

they were created with a dark form after sos saw pebbles' state, so the darkness wouldnt affect her.

after the triple affirmative, sos was gone and dead. several iterators were incredibly concerned, and after sending overseers, discovered only enot, always curiously waiting and watching.

enot, a simple slugcat with a failed purpose, known as a god killer.

(oh yeah btw enot can kind of cause dreams almost, walking through them for short times to speak to the one having the dream- this is how they discovered nightcat in pebbles' can)

enot very rarely lies, instead going silent with a smile if he doesnt want to answer

when she enter fp's can to free nightcat, pebbles was genuinely so scared of the "god killer" that she literally just. let nightcat go bc she was so focused on distancing her puppet from enot

saint remembered them when he returned with nightcat, and immediately tried to convince rivulet not to allow enot to stay anywhere near them (it did NOT work)

saint was very close to sos but fled before enot ascended her out of fear of the other slugcat, and after learning about what happened, doesnt trust enot and likely never will.

Oh Defectors, Where Art Thou?: On a mission gone wrong, Kallus and Sabine are captured by the Empire and sent to a prison in the inner rim. They escape, but now they’re on the run in the heart of Imperial Territory. Based on the Odyssey.

Speak No Evil: The Ghost Crew come across a Sith artifact that consumes people with rage and makes them attack whoever is near them and Zeb accidentally activates it. i'm going on a VERY fun rabbit hole with this life series/hermitcraft/empires blaseball au thing, so have the next installment, the hermit blaseball au! this one is a lot easier to understand if you don't know anything about blaseball, because this is Much more "i've just put them into the plot of blaseball, they're just hanging out in there". my empires blaseball au can be found here, and the third life blaseball au will be linked here one i finish writing that up.

This AU is, even more so than the Empires part of this AU, just me shoving the Hermits into the Blaseball universe and letting it happen.

The only people who are even sort of replacing an actual Blaseball player are Cleo, Joe, and Gem.

Cleo is our Jaylen. She pitches for the Kansas City Breath Mints, and is the best pitcher in the league, and when the Forbidden Book opens, she dies. Her intended replacement is False Symmetry II, aka Empires!False, but when the Forbidden Book is opened in the Empires, Hermitcraft, and Life Series universes all at once, everything gets a little muddled, and everyone comes out of it a little muddled. The biggest change is that Cleo is instead replaced by Gemini Tay, the newly generated player from the Empires world who was meant to replace Xornoth. 

When she is resurrected at the end of season 6, Joe goes into the Shadows in exchange. Within a few seasons, he is able to leave the Shadows and bats for the Breath Mints for about a season, afterwards he is transferred to the Seattle Garages, where he stays. I am not putting him back in the Shadows because it makes me kind of sad.

Cub and Jevin are both players for the Thieves, so they get cursed as a result of the boss fight against the Shelled One. We will resolve that later. Hels, despite being on the Crabs, does not get cursed, because he doesn’t join the Crabs until after they return from ascension.

Other than that, the Hermits are just sort of Existing in the world of Blaseball. Evil X and Hels are both created in similar ways to Evil Twin and Bontgomery Mullock, which is to say, Blessings break and accidentally clone a guy, so we just slightly edit one of their names and keep going. Don’t worry about it. 

At one point during Expansion, while the Reroll Will is still in effect, fans of the Thieves attempt to reroll the Flinch modifier that Cub got as a side effect of fighting god and losing that one time. It gets rerolled into Debt, in a similar vein to what happened to Silvaire Roadhouse, but because he’s on the Thieves, he actually gets to kill people. Good for him. Jevin’s Flinch modifier also gets rerolled, but he gets Reverberating. Good for him, but in a different direction.
