Does anyone love the supernatural for
It's tangled family dynamics
Gritty haunted Americana setting(yes I relize it was filmed in BC and that Texas never looks like Texas in the show)
Urban fantasy magical politicing
Juxtaposition between trama and some truly funny jokes
Gayness
Muscle cars
But wish it was
More compact
More consistent
Explicitly gay
Didn't kill of ALL of its female charecters
Actually payed attention to seanery so that Denver looks different from oklahoma?
Suggest that maybe what this family actually needs is a bit more therapy?
Then have I got the book series for you.

Title: Adam Binder
Author: David R. Slayton
Series or standalone: series
Publication year: 2020
Genres: fiction, fantasy, LGBT+, paranormal, romance
Blurb: Guthrie was a good place to be from, but it wasn't a great place to live...not when you were like Adam. Adam Binder hasn't spoken to his brother in years, not since Bobby had him committed to a psych ward for hearing voices. When a murderous spirit possesses Bobby's wife and disrupts the perfect life he's built away from Oklahoma, he's forced to ask for his little brother's help. Adam is happy to escape the trailer park and get the chance to say "I told you so"...but he arrives in Denver to find the local magicians dead. It isn't long before Adam is the spirit's next target. To survive the confrontation, he'll have to risk bargaining with powers he'd rather avoid, including his first love: the elf who broke his heart. The Binder brothers don't realise that they're unwitting pawns in a game played by immortals. Death herself wants the spirit's head, and she's willing to destroy their family to reap it.

This book was a rollercoaster from start to finish and I loved every minute of it. This was the perfect way to end this series, everything was wrapped up neatly with just a hint of what’s next. I loved getting to see the end of Adam’s story. With all of its ups and downs and hard parts. I also loved that we got to see Vic’s journey through the underworld with Jodi (and Mel). I really liked that we got to see everyone grow into their powers and change and become something more. It was so much fun getting to explore a new layer to this universe! I also kinda liked that this book took a slightly different turn at the end than I was expecting. Deadbeat Druid is getting a solid 5 stars from me. I hope we get to explore more of this universe in the future!

I'm just gonna keep track of somethings I think are gonna happen in the book I'm reading...
Current book: Deadbeat Druid (book #3 in the Adam Binder series) by David R Slayton
* this thought happened somewhere in book 2 but I think it more now.... I think Adam (or maybe it makes more sense that it be Vic) replaces Sarah (I'm reading the audiobook idk if that is the correct spelling) as death
Chapter 3 (Not gonna pretend to spell this person's name cuz I'm not 100% sure what there name is anyway...) the page elf (Adam's opposite) is definitely coming with
(Vran better be ok)
Chapter 14 Momma!!!!! Is Mel Sarah's daughter!?!
Chapter 16 (this is random) Spider gets them out
Chapter 21 Robert Sr. goes to the sea, maybe Mel takes over for Sarah? I don't think they fix the demon problem also the way to kill John is definitely shoving him into the sea
Chapter 22 oh shit the reaper blade can kill I bet
Chapter 23 fucking Silver!!! (Literally only heard the voice say they can't go after Adam, but it was Silvers voice) oops I was wrong it's Vran
Chapter 24 we just spent 3/4 of the book getting back together and leaving hell and now they have to go back, rescue Adam and kill more demons? I'm very worri3d how this book ends...
Chapter 26 "why are you a cowboy?" "Well they're hot right?" Damn I also wish Adam and Jimmy got to meet in life
Final thoughs: good book, actually I love how the underworld is done also I would KILL for a spin off with Bran (or any of them but I feel like his story was set up for a spin off)

I am once again asking you to read the Adam Binder series by David R. Slayton.
Not because it's a good story about a messes up family (which is it) but for the the peak comedy of every single person in that family thinking that the drama queen Gene skipped them but got everyone else....
No honey, your just as dramatic as the rest of them, it's just your trigger us different

White Trash Warlock, David R. Slayton
So much fun, and such a refreshing setting for a fantasy! Adam is an american magician who grew up in a trailer park (and had a pretty terrible childhood). He's chasing after a mysterious warlock with a big evil vibe, when his estranged brother contacts him to ask for help saving his wife from something magical that is consuming her. Quite dark, very fun, very different :)

Trailer Park Trickster-Review
Tumblr media
Y'ALL I forgot that I finished this book in April!!! I actually finished 3 books in April. See, what had happened was that I was on huge high from The Hacienda. Right after I finished the Hacienda, I immediately opened this audiobook in Audible and finished it hours later. But, I somehow forgot that I finished it. I really enjoyed this book and was surprised that it got a little darker than the last book. Plot time!
Summary:
They are my harvest, and I will reap them all.
Returning to Guthrie, Oklahoma, Adam Binder once again finds himself in the path of deadly magic when a dark druid begins to prey on members of Adam’s family. It all seems linked to the death of Adam’s father many years ago—a man who may have somehow survived as a warlock.
Watched by the police, separated from the man who may be the love of his life, compelled to seek the truth about his connection to the druid, Adam learns more about his family and its troubled history than he ever bargained for, and finally comes face to face with the warlock he has vowed to stop.
Meanwhile, beyond the Veil of the mortal world, Argent the Queen of Swords and Vic Martinez undertake a dangerous journey to a secret meeting of the Council of Races . . . where the sea elves are calling for the destruction of humanity.
5/5 Stars
This book got deeper and a little darker than the previous one. We learn more about the Binder Family history and its dark, magical past. In the first book, we learn that Adam is hunting a dark Druid. There is a connection between the two of them--and he believes it's his dad. He left when he was young and never came back. Perhaps, this Druid is Adam's father. Perhaps, finding him will bring closure and heal some of Adam's wounds from his youth.
But--the mystery remains. However, a tragic loss stricken Adam and he has to go back to Guthrie. Leaving behind his new beau and his mother and brother (or so he thought). He must stop this Druid and that's when the secrets begin to unravel.
You really go through Adam's emotions in this book. This poor boy has so much weight thrusted upon and he's just trying to be normal-for once in his life- but also set things right and stop the Druid. He's not trying to be the hero, he just genuinely wants to stop the Druid from killing anymore creatures. I really did enjoy the exploration of Adam's emotions in this book. We also got to learn more about Vic's life in this one. I wasn't sure why they were separated so much in this book-I love it when those two are together. The adventure was great! Exploring new worlds while being introduced to new characters. I enjoyed the world building in this book because we get to know more about the realms as each character goes on these adventures.
That reveal of the Druid definitely stumped me! Obviously, I'm not gonna tell you. Lol, I think you should read it and find out. The cliffhanger got me too! OOOOOF I screamed when it ended---I was so happy I could just start the next one Audible.
I just finished the 3rd yesterday--and I'm soooo sad it has come to end.
You will have a review soon!
XOXO
Sincerely,
Veronica
