I despise CherriSnake and here’s why

Before we begin, something I want to clarify is that I don’t care if you ship or don’t ship CherriSnake. You do you, I’m not here to stop you and neither is this post. I just personally wanted to make a post on why I absolutely hate this ship.

Also, props to @cagneyblooms for helping me come up with some of the points.

REASON#1 - They don’t really work as partners for me

This is more of a personal reason to me, but CherriSnake is one of those ships to me where it feels like they absolutely can’t work out as a couple. Since the pilot is somewhat treated as canon in the show, they make no sense considering the fact that Pentious and Cherri absolutely despised eachother in the pilot. Both of them were locked in a turf war against one another and that hatred was mutual. Yet the show does a complete 180 from that and makes Pentious have this crush on Cherri out of nowhere, likely because Vivziepop wanted a straight HH ship and instead of deciding to just make a different character to pair Pentious/Cherri with or just make a entirely new ship. She just looked at the fandom, saw that CherriSnake was somewhat popular, and decided to make it canon last minute. CherriSnake during 2019-2023 just felt like a joke ship to me or something shippers who ship every character together would make. I mean, CherriSnake practically falls into a TON of popular tropes (Enemies/Rivals to Lovers, Angel x Demon, Girlboss x Goofball, probably way more) I’m not dissing this tropes, I even do these tropes myself with OC x Canon pairings I make. It’s just that CherriSnake felt rushed and last minute.

REASON#2 - They lack chemistry and actual interaction

To be fair, I partially put the blame on both Amazon Prime and Vivziepop for this. Amazon Prime because they only gave HH 8 episodes to really show its story, but I also blame Vivziepop for this. Because not only did she waste whatever time she had with those 8 episodes by showing us useless filler with the Vees and The Overlords instead of actually delving into the main sinners and why they’re in Hell. But she also crammed WAY too much content into 8 episodes instead of giving HH proper pacing.

But onto CherriSnake chemistry, Cherri and Pentious’s regular interactions pretty much prove to me that Vivziepop understands nothing about how actual relationships work and just make their dynamic one sided on Pentious’s part. Let’s be honest, Cherri does not reciprocate Pentious in the slightest considering the stuff she does to him. The shitty two dicks joke aside, not only was the kiss between her and Pentious forced because it was only a “heat of the moment” deal, but she also did this.

I get that Cherri isn’t exactly a nicest sinner demon in Hazbin, but this combined with the two dicks joke and the kiss she and Pentious share makes her seem incredibly shallow (which she is considering how rushed this ship is in general) If Hazbin Hotel was like Bojack Horseman like some people claim it is, either these would happen.

A. Cherri realizes she was shallow for only wanting Pentious for his two dicks and never really considered how he felt, either leading Cherri and Pentious staying friends or Cherri breaking it off with him.

B. Pentious calls out Cherri for being shallow, thus giving both him and Cherri some development.

C. Cherri realizes that she only liked the kiss because it was less of them being in love and more of a heat of the moment adrenaline rush.

Or literally anything else. Cherri and Pentious never have a genuine interaction that either doesn’t make Cherri seem incredibly shallow or isn’t comedic.

As for the final reason, it may be a bit of a stretch, but I still think it counts.

REASON#3 - It’s borderline pedophillia

Again, props to @cagneyblooms for making me realize this point. Also, because pedophillia is very much a serious topic + I don’t want to throw the term around. I’ll be providing more evidence than the other two.

I’m not kidding, CherriSnake (atleast to me) becomes borderline pedophillic once you think about the lore Vivziepop spoon feeds us through her livestreams instead of diving deep into it. According to Vivziepop, Sir Pentious was in his mid 40s (best speculated to be 45) when he died while Cherri died in her early 20s, already raising a few eyebrows.

Yeah, this is already gross enough, but something that makes the age gap worse is the difference timeframe in which these two died in. Sir Pentious was confirmed to have died in 1888 London and Cherri Bomb died somewhere in the 80s. So not only was Pentious A GROWN ASS MAN WHO ALREADY HAD LIVED AND DIED BEFORE CHERRI WAS BORN, CHERRI WAS LIKELY BARELY A ADULT SINCE SHE WAS EITHER IN HER EARLY 20s AT BEST OR BARELY IN HER 20s AT WORST! This is also mentioning that Sir Pentious is also technically older than Cherri in Hell because depending on what exact year Cherri died in, Sir Pentious had either already spent nearly 100 years in Hell or he actually spent 100 years exactly in Hell when Cherri died. The only thing that really softens blow is that Pentious got a crush on her when they were both in Hell, meaning Cherri was technically still in her 20s in a way.

To conclude this, I hate CherriSnake. It’s one of the few Canon ships I actually despise since I either don’t care for Canon ships or I actually ship Canon couples as well. Even if Vivziepop wasn’t a terrible person, she’s still a really fucking awful writer who can’t stick to anything at all and is more concerned about her shitty Stoltliz soap opera rather than writing a good story. Writers like Vivziepop are the reason why research makes a good story.

Do you think it’d be an interesting side story if Teenage Garth and Donna became real close but started to drift apart after Garth found out she was dating Roy? And of course it’d contribute to him leaving the titans but also adding some internal conflict about how he feels betrayed in a way.

Well... if Garth and Donna have a strictly platonic relationship, then yes, absolutely! The other titans being closer to each other is something that he absolutely feels self-conscious about. And while he's often shown "not understanding" Roy's (and occasionally Wally's) attraction to Donna, I think that also retroactively adds to the problem of feeling like an outsider on the team. Garth often feels like he's out of the loop on things so being close to Donna and then finding out that she might be closer to Roy would absolutely work.

If you mean Garth and Donna being romantically close, then honestly, no. Absolutely no hate to the people who do ship them, but I really hate Garth/Donna..... I mean first just the whole forcing Donna to be with every male friend in her vicinity thing, but it also just,, doesn't make sense from a character or narrative perspective. I mentioned recently that the fab five treat Garth like he's their inexperienced younger brother, and Donna is consistently one of the first people to do that. They have some similarities with being from Different places and wanting to fit in, but instead of bonding over that in a "we're the same let's kiss" kind of way, Donna just understands him and feels protective of him because of it. This is really important to her characterization! She's not nice to him because she thinks he's cute, she's nice because she understands how he feels and doesn't want him to have a hard time, especially when people like Roy and Wally occasionally insult him for it.

And Garth... listen, I don't like killing female characters off just so the male character has a special arc thing. That being said, Tula is so intrinsically tied to Garth's identity that trying to take her away is... it doesn't work the way they think it works. I'm not saying that Garth having crushes or relationships before Tula would diminish their relationship, but I am saying that Tula being Garth's first love is Very important to him as a character. The idea of love and loss of love is fundamental to his narrative. Donna is absolutely important to him, but she's also his cool friend who kicks ass with him, not the love of his life.

ANYWAY, yeah,,, i really enjoy Garth and Donna's friendship!! And I'd love it if we could get back to them being besties and siblings!! While I do think it's important for Garth to focus on how he feels left out by all of the titans, having little mini arcs about specific members wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

However! I don't think Garth would feel betrayed by Donna or Roy (I mean why would he feel betrayed by Roy...), at least,,, not in the classical sense. He would kind of feel betrayed, but betrayal does partially imply that it's their fault or at least that he's blaming them, and Garth wouldn't do that. Instead, Garth would just use this as an example of not belonging with them. He'd turn it into a self-hate "I don't belong here and this is more proof of that" campaign, not a "they hurt my feelings" thing.

There is a lot to unpack.

Individual artists and writers should not be blamed for something being popularized that is not canon. Individual creators should never be harassed or sent anything hate-like. Never.

There are two problems. One is fem!Sirius written in a misogynistic way where Sirius' "fem" traits are associated with misogynistic portrayals of women. Stupid, airheaded, need man to function, "hysterical," "dramatic." You get it. Sirius can be a woman, can be transfem, but Sirius is not stupid, airheaded, helpless, "hysterical" in canon.

The second problem. If Sirius is transfem Sirius should still be Sirius. Intelligent, loyal, quick-witted, cutting, intense. Those are not gendered traits. They can be for everyone. Sirius likes motorbikes. Likes creating things. Likes taking risks.

When some people see fem!Sirius art and also see misogynistic takes on fem!Sirius in fic, tumblr, tiktok they combine the two. Fem!Sirius as art or concept not the problem. Fem!Sirius where Sirius is nothing like canon and is only negative misogynistic stereotypes, that is the problem. That is more common nowadays.

If you want to write canon Sirius as transfem, OK. But make MtF Sirius with canon personality. As far as I know being transgender makes your personality shine better because you can be who you really are. If canon Sirius is written as transfem then canon Sirius personality should shine more?

So it is not the concept of fem!Sirius that is the problem. It is the execution. To me fem!Sirius should be similar to Bellatrix but fighting for good and not prejudiced. Canon Bellatrix is a formidable witch. Transfem Sirius would be also.

Mike Character Analysis - Season 2 Part 4:

So now the whole group has made its way to the Byers house, Will is still unconscious and a spy, and demo dogs are on the loose. They come up with a plan to wake Will up in the shed so he can't tell where he is and spy again. They need information and can spy back. Several important things happen for Mike here. Mike, Joyce, Jonathan, and Hopper are the only ones in the shed. The people who care about Will the most. I'm including Hopper in this because he has done nothing but protect this kid since he's gone missing. So while he doesn't tell stories like the others (he hasn't known him as long) he still cares about him. It's Mike's story about meeting Will on the first day of kindergarten that first connects with Will and gets him to communicate with morse code. It's an emotionally moving scene. Mike calls it "the best thing he's ever done" and Joyce and Jonathan are visibly touched by this. Everyone is teary. It speaks to the deep bond between Mike and Will that it's this moment that gets Will to reach out to them and find his way back. But Mike realizes that closing the gate will kill Will - he's trying to sacrifice himself to save the group. And Mike won't allow this, so he comes up with another plan so this doesn't happen. Mike is the one who logically comes up with a plan to stop the supernatural forces in every season, except season 4 and it's part of the reason why they lose. He's able to quickly figure out what the problem is and find a solution under pretty tense circumstances each time, which isn't an easy thing to do. It's one of the many reasons I get annoyed with the Mike hate. He absolutely does have a purpose in the group and the narrative. He makes the plans that everyone else carries out. He's the one who strategizes. Now El returns and Mike has a melt down. Again, let's not oversimplify Mikes feelings. Yes he's relieved to see her, yes he's pissed at Hopper for hiding her, but that is not the only thing going on here. He just had a really traumatic couple of days. Not to mention the fact that his "attitude" (it's depression) has been something he's struggling with for the past year. Mike was already on the verge of breaking down. El was the final straw and the thing that pushed him over the edge. Back to my earlier point about Mikes melt down with Hopper. Mike is saying Hopper is a "liar" and that he's "disgusting". This doesn't really add up. Hopper never lied about El because they all thought she was dead and there was nothing to indicate otherwise. We have no evidence that Mike went looking for her or asked Hopper if he saw her around. The comment about him being disgusting is very specific. Yes, this could just be Mike and his attitude again but let's look deeper. Mike is taking all of his frustrations and trauma and putting it on Hopper and Hopper is letting him. HE IS TAKING OUT HIS PROBLEMS OUT ON HOPPER. So what are his problems here? - he's a liar and he's disgusting. The first one is more straightforward. A possessed Will screams at Mike that he's a liar when they are in the hospital and Mike is trying to explain why he needs to be unconscious. A moment that had to have had a big impact on Mike not only because his best friend is being horrible and yelling things that aren't true, but because Mike is doing what he promised. Will wanted Mike to make sure he couldn't spy and hurt anyone. Mike is doing that and getting called a liar.

The next comment is a little harder to clarify unless you take my earlier point into consideration. If Mike was all protective of Will at the hospital, did one of the soldiers/doctors see and make a comment about this? Is this where the "you're disgusting" comments come from? Or is this Mike internalizing things? Is he fully coming to the conclusion that he's gay and in love with Will at the worst possible time? - when El returns and everyone will expect him to have feelings for her. I believe it's definitely the last one and even if no one at the lab called them disgusting, bullies at school had no problem calling Will (and Mike by association) gay and have probably said as much.

This point is further emphasized by the fact that El tries to kiss Mike and Mike does not reciprocate. He has just been through a thing. El leans in to kiss him and Mike stands there with his eyes wide open and doesn't move. It's honestly inappropriate that she tries to do this and she's clearly recreating all the soap operas she's watched. They haven't seen each other in a year and she is just picking up where they left off, but Mike is in a whole new place. Hopper interrupts this moment, I'm pretty sure he's trying to spare Mike here (I wrote more about this here). And we have Mike watching both El and Will leave the Byers house. Something we see again in season 3. The easy answer is that he's watching El leave and is just so emotional at her return. But again this over-simplifies his feelings. Yes this is part of it, but Mike has just been through it. And he has been through it with Will. This has been a long shitty night and he just broke down and now both El and Will are off to go put themselves in even more danger and he's being told to stay home.

Something pretty subtle happens when Will and El both leave the Byers. The rest of the kids are left at the house with Steve and Dustin and Mike are trying to come up with a plan to help out. Mike's idea is entirely based off of what he saw happen at the lab. On the surface, he's helping El. But what he's really doing is helping Will. Because his plan is to go into the tunnels and use fire to distract the demogorgon. But he saw what the fire did to Will. He saw how when he was possessed this cause him pain. Only now he knows that Will is fully possessed and the MF likes it cold. It's what Jonathan, Joyce, and Nancy are doing at the cabin. They are sweating the MF out. And it's this last push by Mike in the tunnels that ends up saving Will. Will goes through his de-possession with Joyce, Jonathan, and Nancy. Mike is away from him for the first time all season. It's important to note that Mike doesn't bring El up at all through any of the lab drama. The last time he mentions her is at the school when he thinks he sees her walking around. Afterward, his entire focus is on Will until she returns. Of course it is, Will is his best friend and he's in trouble. So Mike is now not with Will for the first time and it's noticeable. It's the start of Mike not being able to figure out what he's doing when El and Will exist in the same space with him. A theme that continues through the next 2 seasons.

Are you the one who wrote 'A Jester's Lament'?

What inspired you to write it? (41 chapters!)

Oh no no no, I’d HATE to be that weirdo who wrote 400 pages worth of mario fanfiction! haughty laughter is then interrupted by 500 drawings of Lament Dimentio falling out of my pocket

Tbh what inspired me was. Myself? Weirdly enough? I mean of course SPM being my biggest interest was absolutely part of the reason why it’s so long and why I wrote it to begin with. But what specifically sparked the story of AJL was the fact there was an extremely specific type of Dimentio redemption story I was looking for. Of course, I’m not saying AJL is the first of its kind or something because it most definitely is not lmao😭😭 But there were just some things I preferred in an AU that tries to redeem Dimentio, and after searching for a while for, again, that extremely specific story, I thought, “DUDE JUST MAKE IT YOURSELF💀💀💀💀” and so I did. And a lot of people just ???? happened to like it??? :

Even though story length was one of my specific wants, I highly doubt I could’ve completed 41 chapters without the immense support I received. I genuinely cannot thank you guys enough. Seriously, if you like a fic, I highly highly reccomend commenting. You have no idea how much that means to writers 🤍

I’m putting this under a read more so I don’t clog people’s feed, but if anybody’s curious, some of my specific wants were:

- Length. I needed this fic to be almost unbearably long. I needed people to say GODDD DAAMMMNN when they looked at the word count.

- Dimentio somehow getting more unredeemable before he got redeemed (idk if I fully accomplished that, but I tried) (it’s hard to get worse than the complete annihilation of life) (I just tried not to purposefully write him in a likable way early on in the story)

- Dimentio dying the same amount of times he killed Luigi in the game

- Dimentio in general getting shit absolutely rocked

- Luigi not being a doormat, ESPECIALLY SINCE DIMENTIO ABUSED HIM

- DIMENTIO. BEING. IN. CHARACTER. THIS IS NOT JUST SOME SILLY GOOFY CLOWN!!! HE IS EVIL!!! HE TRIED TO KILL EVERY SINGLE ENTITY THAT HAS EVER EXISTED, DEAD AND ALIVE. HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE TERRIFYING AND SCARY!!! yes he’s naturally charming, write him as such, BUT NEVER FORGET THE THREAT HE IS!!!!

- Dimentio having a backstory that’s emo enough to explain the person he became but not emo enough to be his main source of redemption via pity if that makes sense. I think I achieved this? But of course that’s subjective, and looking back there were better ways to go about it. Basically what I tried to do is give him a good childhood with loving parents- minus the “accident” of course- and have Dimentio himself clarify in Chapter 15:

Basically: the loss of his family and the shit he went through definitely played a role. However, instead of a Blumiere-like “My loved one(s) died, now all worlds are without meaning and deserve to be destroyed,” Dimentio’s grief triggered a very deadly greed that did not revolve around the ones he lost. Blumiere’s motivation for destruction, including himself, was purely the loss of Timpani. Dimentio’s motivation for destruction, excluding himself, was, well, himself. For once, Dimentio wanted to earn, not lose. Making Dimentio have an understandable backstory but be “less sympathetic” than his counterpart, Blumiere, was important to me during the creation of AJL. But this gets extremely complicated because something like hmm uh idk erm MASS MURDER is impossible to truly make sympathetic. Regardless of intention, Dimentio and Blumiere did the exact same thing. Regardless of intention, Dimentio and Blumiere were both selfish. You can’t exactly destroy life itself in a non-selfish way. Both characters are equally unredeemable (or… equally redeemable, technically). Strip their actions down for their bones, and all you’ll see is two characters that tried to ERASE EXISTENCE. Sure, you can FEEL more sympathy for one than compared to the other, but feelings are subjective. Facts are objective. And the fact is, Dimentio and Blumiere attempted mass murder. You see why this is difficult to explain and even more difficult to write? I have a headache. God speed everybody

So I've finished Transformers: Exodus and, for God's sake, I adore this book. It was really interesting and surprisingly thoughtful, cuz it brought up a lot of hard and heavy themes.

And now I really want to share one of my personal favorite moments of all book and discuss its themes.

But, before I begin I am obligated to warn you about spoilers. If you want to read TF:Exodus absolutely don't read my post. Ok? Good. So, once again, brace yourself for a scene analysis! Also, this is all my opinion, I might be wrong.

Now, the scene I talk about is battle between Sentinel Prime and Megatron. I'll let you read it before I continue on what I love about it.

Now, remember me praising this book for bringing up heavy themes? Yeah, this is an apogee of that statement. Like this one scene makes us question so much and makes us wonder who is right. Yet the best part is that it's no one IMO.

So, the first big question, that came to my mind reading this was who should I root for?

Now, from watching TFP and other Transformers media we all expect Decepticons be bad and every Autobot/bot who supports their cause to be automatically a good character. Yet TF:Exodus absolutely changes the narrative. Sentinel Prime isn't in any capacity a good person. He is the one who proposed and made to life the caste system, the one who made millions upon millions bots suffer just because they could transform into certain thing, the one who gave D-16 the reason to became Megatronus. (Let me clarify something. D-16, Megatronus and Megatron are all the same person, yet I'm inclined using this separation for clearance of speech. D-16 is a slave, Megatronus is a gladiator/revolutioner and Megatron is a tyrant/dictator. Though it isn't really true, since Megatron quickly changed his name, but I feel it'll be easier to comprehend what point of character ideology I'm talking about). Thousands of bots were living their long life in the mines, in the pits of polluted cities just because they were born with a specific transformation. He reaped what all this unfortunate, unnamed bots sow. Sentinel Prime is the person who is responsible for deaths and, even more terrible, lifes millions of bots had. Honestly, I don't remember why he decided that caste system was a good idea, but in grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. Let's be frank, SP had time to change the system, yet never did. Why? Because it directly benefited him. Why change something if it makes your life better at the cost of unnamed, distant slaves that you can ignore?

Yet I can't find myself rooting for Megatron. And this is a question, that was brought up by the book and for which I have no answer.

When the reasonable sacrifice becomes unstoppable massacre?

Now, revolution isn't something that usually ends up with no victims. As Megatronus states nothing was changing while him and Orion discussed the problem. The higher class wouldn't do anything if they were asked nicely, which we can clearly see in the books. So to make themselves heard, gladiators decided to do terrorist attacks, which is while understandable, yet directly contradicting to their own ideology (we'll get to it later). But, when is this enough? This question is indirectly asked by Sentinel Prime. Are the deaths of Bumper and Fastback were necessary? Now, I'm not sure that I, at least for now, possess any means on discussing this kind of question. And this is what I like! It isn't just yes or no, good or bad. We want to hate Sentinel Prime and be on Megatronus' side, but it isn't that easy. Because it's not Megatronus anymore. It isn't this idealistic bot, who only wants freedom for himself and his people. No, Megatronus is long gone. And now there's someone new. Megatron. Now, while I can't discuss necessity of deaths of other persons, since I consider myself unprepared for this kind of talks, I can point out the moment when I think revolution became Megatron's secondary mission.

No, I'm not talking about scene where Orion became Prime, though it is really important. I'm talking about the brief moment when he torn out Bumblebee's voice box.

Was it necessary? Probably yes, since Bee was an enemy's spy. Yet what makes it a very important scene is that in this particular moment, Megatron forgets about his own cause. His ideology was about freedom of speech and choice for people like him. So wouldn't it mean that Decepticons should respect a someone's choice becoming an Autobot? But it never happens. I'm not saying that Megatron should've let BB go with praises and a smooch on the forehead. But when the ideology founder doesn't play by his own rules, why would people following him should? And this is why I love this book and this moment. Guys, I'm not saying I've read much and maybe I just have very low standards, yet this is such a good scene! I never thought I'd say it, but the story about space aliens who fight each other, while smoking intergalactic crack is one of the most realistic stuff I've ever seen! Megatron's idea was brilliant yet the execution and envy destroyed everything good. Megatron was right at first, but when he stopped caring for his own people that's when it all went downhill. And this scene just keeps getting better. Call me slowpoke (cuz this is what I am), but writing this made me realize about what delusion OP talked about in TFP and about what SP was talking about in this moment. Megatron is no revolutionary anymore. He is a tyrant. He long forgot about his cause, the only thing he cares about now is getting back at Optimus. His delusions make him think he's doing the right thing for a good cause, yet he never fully understands that he becomes something he has sworn to destroy. Now he is ignoring his people, sending them to endlessly and pointlessly die on the battlefield or by his own hands just for disobeying his orders. Megatron couldn't care less about the caste system he had already wiped out of existence. The envy, the pain and the "betrayal" got to his head, twisting his mind and even driving him crazy. And people tend to find an excuse for their own wrongdoings, so they can feel better about themselves. Megatronus' idea became Megatron's excuse.

And this is so deep and so realistic. I love how Alex Irvine approached Megatronus' fall and Megatron's rise, our necessity for choosing the lesser evil out of two morally questionable ideologies. And giving us the opportunity to decide for ourselves.

I hope you now understand why I adore this scene so much😉

This line has affected me and made me apply it to other situations in my brain, which i wish to share.

on one side, i apply this line to women in society. we'll work are way through it shall we:

'Am I not shunned and hated by all mankind?' very straightforward, misogyny is taught from very young and women are always the lower life force and therefore hated and uncapable.

'You, my creator, would tear me to pieces in triumph' in this context man would be the 'creator' (i think i see this more as a father-daughter thing, of course there are many wonderful fathers). a father will put down his daughter with misogyny without a second thought.

'why I should pity man more that he pities me?' women are expected to pity and care for men, though they put us down constantly.

'You would not call it murder if you could precipitate me into one of those ice-rifts and destroy my frame, the work of your own hands.' there are men who inflict harm on women, and even so, insist that they haven't. its so normal to view that men hurt women (its even portrayed as 'love') which makes many men believe they aren't actually hurting women when they obviously are.

'Shall I respect man when he condemns me?' again, the above point: women are supposed to respect and care for men, even those who have hurt them and put them down.

on the other hand, this could be referring to how abusive parents view their children. we'll work through it again:

'You, my creator, would tear me to pieces in triumph' lots of parents tear down their children, maybe subconsciously, because they grew up with their parents doing the same. the point is that some parents actually delight in putting down their children.

'why I should pity man more that he pities me?' there are many children that grow up and have less contact with parents because of their behaviours, and are labelled as 'heartless' for getting away.

'You would not call it murder if you could precipitate me into one of those ice-rifts and destroy my frame, the work of your own hands.' many parents use hitting as discipline, and see absolutely no problem with it. they wouldn't call it abuse themselves.

'Shall I respect man when he condemns me?' children are always expected to respect a parent, even if the parent is abusive.

* i want to clarify that this is generalizing, and its what went through my brain when reading this line, so i decided to write about it. you don't have to have the same opinion as me. Charlie goes to his crusty bedroom and reads his precious Moby-Dick essay one more time while glugging from a two-liter bottle of bed-Pepsi. We get to hear his favorite part of the essay: “The whale doesn’t have any emotions, he’s just a poor big animal.” As a fat person who has actually read Moby-Dick, even the “boring chapters,” THAT IS NOT WHAT MOBY-DICK IS ABOUT OR WHAT MOBY DICK THE WHALE IS LIKE AT ALL. Obviously we’re supposed to draw some parallel between Moby Dick the actual whale and Charlie the human whale, but, like, why? What shallow fucking bullshit! Can you even map one on top of the other at all? Has anyone ever read Moby-Dick and thought, “wow, what a pathetic loser” about the whale? The ungraspable phantom of life himself???? Thin people don’t think of fat people as powerful and inscrutable phantoms—they’re absolutely positive they can scrute everything about us, our “everything” being CHEESY BUGLES! Hence this movie!!!!! Don’t talk about my favorite book, DARREN. I don’t come to your house and explain The Mystery Method wrong! Anyway, then Charlie uses his cursed rusty mobility aids to turn out the light and go to sleep. Spooky!

[...] How do fat suits work? Does Brendan Fraser have to wear individual little sausage tubes on each finger? I can’t stop thinking about how many awards the visual effects people (or whatever department makes fat suits) are going to win for this. It’s like if I got a Nobel Prize for drawing a mean picture of your grandma. Also, for the record, I know the fat suit was really expensive, but it looks weird! It doesn’t hang right! He looks like the mascot for an NBA team called the Wichita Big Pile of Raw Chicken. Hmm, if only there was a way to depict a fat person in a movie without an expensive flappy silicon slug bag!

While Charlie is in the bathroom crying (really), Thomas shows up again and Ellie introduces herself: “What’s more surprising—that a gay guy has a daughter, or that someone actually found his penis?” Wow, once again, thank you so much to Darren Aronofsky and playwright Samuel D. Hunter for spending TEN YEARS on this extremely humanizing screenplay! I feel seen, unlike my own genitals!!!

Charlie is so moved that he goes, “You wrote these amazing, honest things… You’ve all been so honest with me. I just want to be honest with you too.” And then he TURNS ON HIS WEBCAM and SHOWS THEM HIS HUGE FACE AND BODY! All the students lose it and they’re grimacing and cowering before him and taking pictures of the screen, LOL, even though literally it just looks like a regular guy???????? It’s a Zoom square! It looks like a close-up of a guy’s face! No one would have any reaction to this! If there’s one thing this movie does perfectly, it’s trick thin people into telling on themselves about how uncomfortable they are around fat people!

Then Liz comes back and reveals that, LMAO, what happened to Alan is that he starved himself to death (kind of), and that’s why now Charlie has to EAT himself to death. Wooooooow, who wrote that brilliant juxtaposition? Grover??? Is this supposed to be profound? It's less nuanced than when people say “the terrorists hate our freedom”! Actually, you know what? This detail with Alan is the central problem with this entire movie: Being thin is not the opposite of being fat!!!!!!!! STARVING IS NOT THE OPPOSITE OF EATING. Having a body is a complex state! [...] Then they clarify that actually Alan starved himself ALMOST to death and then jumped off a bridge. Jumping! The most thin-privilege way to die!

sorrynotsorry bout all the whale poasting but this review by lindy west was very cathartic for me! its a shitty movie and extremely triggering not just for fat people but anyone with any sort of complicated feelings around food and your own body tbh. so im sharing it here. butt news has a free subscription and lindy west is hilarious so. go read it and maybe read some other reviews too

hello, hope this isn't like offensive or anything. but what's the difference between lusttale and underlust?

Hihi! It isnt :) I really love talking abt lustale, it also helps make sure those who are new to my profile understand Lustale <3 I really suggest looking through my tag ill have below on this post, since it has much more info. but i will try to sum it up for you! TW for a few triggering things!

I wanna first clarify my issues with Underlust and why i made Lustale. - Underlust has lots of issues such as the curveball of MTT being raped, the owner drawing / or drawing fanart of a AU that had a nazi chara, the sudden depression Sans gathers (no build up nor mention, the fact that the skeleton brothers have canon incest relationships.

The owner clarified their mental health wasnt good to continue the AU, hence why parts are most likely really bad. They also said they have stopped working on the AU, and its a fandom owned AU now like Underswap.

The main changes are;

x Chara has the trait of passion instead of Lust, when Chara fell down the monsters were sealed underground after the battle that caused a great depression, Chara ended up passing away but the monsters wanted the trait, and tried to copy it. This failed and the trait Lust was created, as Lust and Passion can be mistaken for the Monsters not understanding x Lustale will be taking a more Slice of Life story, it will only have the visual vibes of Underlust, and loose Undertale storyline. Other then that, there will not be anything such as breaking the barrier (as the monsters are also content and happy as they are ) until very very later on. Battles are less common in this AU, too. x Flowey is made via Asriel's soul breaking, Asgore and Toriel could not have children (Toriel is infertile) and tried to combine their souls to create Asriel's soul, however it was weak and dusted, therefore being sprinkled into a rose similar to how the Rose Flowey in Underlust was made

x Almost each and every character has a new personality, job, backstory, and more. They arent just empty headed sex freaks. I want them to have actual personality instead of "Omg Sans is a femboyant stripper slay king omg" . I also wanna clarify my Lust HATES being called anything feminine or femboyant, no this isnt a issue to those who have lusts' like this.

The only things i kept the same between them are:

x Designs of the characters being similar. It would be hard to revamp Underlust with fully new designs, because that both pushes it too far from what its supposed to be, but ruins the nostalgia of the original characters. Instead i did a few tweaks, minus some characters such as Undyne, Alphys, Toriel, and in the future more characters will have larger redesigns. This is only because Sans and Papyrus are more iconic with the AU, mainly Sans.

x A few pieces of the lore i may keep; However since the lore for Underlust is very short and has alot of wonky pieces, along with a extremely short comic, its hard to really keep anything about Underlust in my AU Lustale, because, to be fair, there is absolutely jack shit to go on.

And you didnt ask for this, but my main reason for doing it is:

With Underlust, there is JACK SHIT to go off of with characters. There is ZERO development, we get to learn NOTHING about them other than they like sex and making other AU counterparts uncomfortable. All we get for story is Mettaton was raped (which is NEVER brought up again. ) and that Sans is actually depressive and has lots of self hate, which again, is NEVER brought up. We learn nothing of what characters like and dislike, we learn nothing about the AU, we learn nothing about their jobs or positions, the entire AU is built up on sex, sex, and more sex. Lustale is a revamp of Underlust where they will be fleshed out, and, i can hope, will possibly replace Underlust because, holy shit, i really dont support Underlust.

Like your entire reblog bordered on the "My hcs and interpretations are better because I'm fully canon and no one can enjoy others" carlyraejepsans level shit but I assumed you didn't mean it like that and I was used to the bullcrap so I was reading in too much. Anyway about interpretations/headcanons how bout that headcanon of my blog lmao. I guess that's how I come across strictly from blog view and not when I'm spamming dumb theories at people in discord oops.

I don't like apologizing because I'm never wrong it seems like an excuse to let people kick you if you show weakness on the great old internet, HOWEVER. I will make an exception and say sorry.

I'm sorry for giving the impression or directly saying? (memory bad) that I only follow canon and that canon is obviously the best and only way to see things. That is very unfun for everyone, and I like having fun, a lot of it. I also hate controlling others or others attempting to control me (see: my entire existence in this fandom).

I have only said it on discord but I should make it clear here as well:

I purposely ignore/put down Sans's importance in anything, it could be out of spite? hatred? (I do not have the time for hate I have to draw) or simply for entertainment.

Spoiler: it's for entertainment, a majority of stuff is about Sans and I find it a lot of fun to go out of my way to remove him from concepts/ideas/theories. I've also found this very interesting because it forces me to look elsewhere for concepts/theories and see things I hadn't before because he was in the way. (I don't mean this maliciously)

Contradicting or nonsense headcanons are loads of fun, are mine better? Of course to me they are, that's why they're on my blog, that's why I post about them. Are there headcanons I don't like? Yes, a lot of them, I used to complain about them a lot in the past, but lately I'm wasting my time more efficiently by searching for stuff in Undertale for the 100th time that's not actually there.

ANYWAY. To answer the original grievance:

Undyne stays the night? (It is not confirmed if it's more than one night) at Papyrus's house, and confirms that he doesn't sleep, that specifically: He doesn't know HOW to sleep. Does this mean that he NEEDS Sans to read to him to sleep?

No. Because it's not mentioned, it could have easily been brought up at this point since Sans already puts himself in some calls already, but it's not. The only one who brings it up is Sans when he's alone, where no one else can argue it or confirm it. What if it's too embarrassing to say in front of Papyrus? Well I mean he already teases him for the junior jumble thing so it wouldn't be out of line for Sans to tease him about that, too.

BUT, if Sans reads Papyrus a bedtime story, why doesn't he remark on the fact Papyrus has nightmares? Wouldn't he have to read to him every time a nightmare woke him up? But again, Papyrus also mentions that he's just too busy to sleep, no mention of needing to sleep, or reading a bedtime story, Papyrus also doesn't bring up Sans reading, or reading to him in any context.

Anyway to argue the "Sans doesn't have nightmares" statement, I'll refer back to my thing of 'removing Sans from ideas because it's funny'. Hahahaha.

But also there's no proof Sans has nightmares, AND WHILE I UNDERSTAND THE HEADCANON- I refuse it because it's funny, but also because Papyrus DESERVES nightmares as a trait and it's unfair to take that away from him.

im thinking about merfolk relationships again and

so, on top of their hierarchy of relationships and complex social nesting structure, they, overall, are VERY polyamorous as a group. like, to the point to where their degree of polyamory was a huge driving force in their evolution, and you can absolutely see evidence of this in even their physical features which i cannot discuss here.

however i think it’s important to clarify that, within merfolk, said polyamory presents WILDLY different and has a huge range between different individuals. there are different models for this polyamory that pop up based on relationship hierarchy, status, individual, etc etc etc - and there are certain types of exclusivity that will pop up from time to time as well, both differing among individuals but also even over lifetimes.

like for miranda specifically, she’s what we might call demiromantic. which means, for a merfolk, she’ll have flings and be intimate with people who she’s not as close to, but these relationships are often limited in scale and in time, and if they start getting “too close” to her or demanding “too much” of her, she’ll break it off. in comparison, she’ll only have continued and extended relationships with those in more intimate social relationships with her, effectively only truly wanting and able to form more longform relationships with those who are within the “friend polycule” that i’ve brought up before. the social mobility of her relationships are more limited and you’re less likely to ever be cared about again after she’s had her fun, unless you belong to a continued and close relationship to her that already exists. likewise, she might go for periods where she’ll refuse to have relationships with those outside said “friend polycule”, or even where she’ll only ever be intimate with one person inside the “friend polycule” who she’s gone exclusive with.

and of course, multiple combinations of this are possible. there are merfolk who won’t have relationships with anyone within their “friend polycule” and merfolk who have no preference at all, or those who will switch it up.

in a way, a lot of these are defined by time, and even moreso because while sex is a more open issue for merfolk, it also comes with some unique aspects to them - such as the fact that sex is seen as a political agreement as well as a personal one, and thus one of miranda’s sexual partners could argue that she showed them political favor by doing so. this is even more complicated by the factor of how sex is used to resolve arguments and fights by merfolk, and thus its factored back into their complex social dynamics. i’ve joked that merfolk hate sex stops being hate sex when they cum - but its not unheard of for a merfolk to refuse to fuck someone on the basis of they’re still angry and don’t want to resolve the issue yet, or that they’re still CONVINCED that they’re in the right.

its also part of why miranda comes off as both promiscuous in her actions and sex-averse in her words and phrasing - it’s discouraged for her, as a royal of a significant title, to EVER openly discuss who she’s fucking and if she wants to fuck someone if they aren’t already in an existing legal agreement with her family or with significant favor from the vanderbilts already. resorting to innuendos and dressing it up as something else is fun too, yes, but it’s also a legal albi and something she can default back to if they ever decide to make what’s just personal fun for miranda into a legal ordeal that she has to clean up.

ironically this is why most royal couples seldom actually fuck. they’ll do it, sure, but they’re so often positioned against each other and given conflicting interests and ambitions that it often becomes an issue of..... they’re having an argument and neither party wants to resolve it. ironically they’ll say they fuck far more often than they actually do to buff up how they’re presented in the courts and being seen as more in-agreement with each other than they actually are.

but considering how the royal families operate within the community system of the merkingdom, this isn’t much of an issue regardless, and having any given royal couple get along isn’t really that important in the grand scheme of things. if anything, it can even be encouraged, depending on if said family wants to present itself as more fair and capable of handling complex issues, by having conflicting interests being balanced within their court without unfair bias to either.

in turn, being too invested in your partner can be considered a conflict of interests, as effectively a means of “mixing up work and pleasure”, and being too devoted to a single person and not to the family line as a whole.

in an entirely different turn of events, this is ironically why bellanda and miranda come off as less close than they actually are when in the courts - as their genuine connection and bond can be seen as an unfair bias and thus reason to suspect that they’ve passed up other, equally or more, qualified people and opportunities, because they gave an automatic pass to each other.

(NOTE: I will not be making any more posts like this unless it is absolutely necessary, because I really don’t like doing them. I simply thought this would be a good opportunity to clarify some things about our server and the people in it.)

Okay, so…

This is a response to @hoshaguma / @hoshathecrasher .

First of all, anyone who wants to talk about me/this account is free to do so while addressing it by name.

Actually, if you genuinely believe that what we’re doing is so harmful and dangerous, then it would probably be in your best interest to do just that. And again, if that really was the case, then nobody in their right mind would consider you addressing me/this account by name as “starting drama”.

So if that’s what you’re worried about, don’t be.

Second of all, define “unironically”.

When we say we “ship” them, we’re not literally actively pushing for any of them to start dating each other. We’re also not spreading rumors or conspiracy theories that they secretly are. Our discussions and content are simply a way for us to express and expand upon our appreciation for the dynamics between the guys, which is why we love their content so much in the first place.

Third of all, we at the “2 Bros” server respect and accept everyone’s *directly stated* boundaries.

So far, the only directly publicly stated boundary from any of the Party Crashers regarding fanart/fanfiction is Brent stating that he would rather people not create NSFW content of him. We completely understand and respect that, and if you were to look on our server you will see that we have respected his wishes.

If the Party Crashers as a group make a direct public statement that they are against the existence of shipping content of them, we will respect their wishes, and the server will be shut down, no questions asked.

However, at this point we have a collection of carefully curated and analyzed evidence to point to the idea that the guys don’t inherently object to this sort of content being made about them, as long as it’s not public.

Lastly, we acknowledge that shipping real people isn’t an appealing idea to everyone, and we accept that. Believe me, we found that out the hard way. The first and only time our group’s “activities” were made public, one of our members and anyone who even remotely looked like they were defending her received an onslaught of harassment and threatening messages. This event led to the official creation of our server, where we swore that this would never happen again.

Even though this person is no longer a member of our server, and at the time of writing this she and I are no longer friends, I still don’t condone any of the hate she received, and I wish her the best.

Actually, not everyone on the server even directly participates in the shipping. They simply don’t object to its existence. They ended up staying simply because they like the other people there. We’re not an obsessed “all shipping, all the time” cult. At the end of the day, we’re just normal people (as relative of a term as “normal” is).

I have nothing against you, Hosha. And if you really wish for me to not interact with you, that’s perfectly fine. But your insinuation that I am a basement-dwelling loser harboring some kind of parasocial obsession with the Party Crashers with no respect for or acknowledgement of them as people is a bit rude. Of course, you’re not the first person to say that sort of thing about RPF shippers, and you certainly won’t be the last.

Were you a general f1 fan before you became part of teamlh or have you always been just teamlh and don’t really care for f1?

I have been a Lewis fan as long as Lewis has been an F1 driver- not to dox myself but Lewis grew up not far from where I did, he’s a local hero and I was cheering for him as a Brit before I knew much about the sport past the glances I’d caught when my dad watched it.

But I would absolutely consider myself as a fan of f1 in its entirety- as inspired by Lewis. Yes he’s my co-favourite driver, and I want him to win again more desperately than anyone else on the grid (Yes I want George to win again but gun to my head if I had to choose between them- George got Brazil ‘23, I need another Lewis win now. Especially if he gets it before Alonso- it’ll give Fernando a hernia- okay tangent over), But thanks to him I’ve really found a sport I adore. I follow the junior series, the electric series, Lewis isn’t the ONLY driver I love anymore, but he’s the root of it all.

I mean his kneeling and embrace of pride is why I got into F1 in early 2020. Rainbows attract gays- I wasn’t used to seeing sports people who stood up for stuff I believed in. I always felt like I didn’t have anyone to support who would actually want me there as a trans fan. Lewis gave me a place to feel wanted. I don’t know if I really feel like I fit in with TeamLH as a collective, I’ve been told often enough I don’t belong- but short of a nuclear level event I’ll always love Lewis in a unique way compared to any other driver. He gave me a home, in a way, and his impact will be tattoo’d in the core of my adoration of motorsport.

Tell me one of the reasons he brings you joy. Like what can he do that brings the biggest smile on your face?

I mean I kinda word vomited about it above, but to expand- I get a little choked up whenever he shares anything with the Trans flag on it. Unfortunately, thanks to shit like the LGB alliance, supporting rainbows is no longer completely synonymous with supporting trans people- and the individual act of clarifying that he cares- it just takes a weight off my spine sometimes. I love how much he loves his sport, how racing is as much a part of his body as his bones and blood- that kind of care and honest Love? It lights up my world. I also grin like an idiot when he teases Val, Bono and George. Lewis acts very cool but he loves so loudly. Also sue me- I love his dog. I don’t need to hate a dog to feel unique- Roscoe is a cool fuckin dog.

Favourite race for one moment - Silverstone 2020

Lewis’ win on three wheels is my spark race. Y’know, the one where you go from being interested and enjoying it- to knowing you’re going to be a fan for a long time. The one where you go from casual to obsessive. I remember staring at the tv holding my breath as Val’s tyre crumbled, shouting oh fuck! When Lewis’ tyre split, chanting go go go go come on you’re so close- with my dad when he kept going, listening to Bono narrating the gap with an almost trembling voice- and then leaping to our feet and cheering in a way I’ve never done for a sport when he crossed the line, Max scrambling around the last turns in the background-

That was my first home race too- seeing your favourite driver win his home race, your home race, on three fucking wheels- there’s magic in that I’m not sure I’ll feel again but ill remain a fan chasing it until I do. Even the boring races are worth it when you know that sometimes miracles can come to life.

Favourite race as a whole - Brazil 2021

Yeah its cliche I know, but Brazil is famous for so much more than what Lewis achieved that day alone- it was what we knew we needed to get before going into the weekend- Lewis had to win every single race before AD to have a chance, and it had been so long since we had a win- I was almost resigned to a loss. Then came the disqualification and how bullshit it was- it seemed like it would be impossible, there was no way we could catch up- and then Lewis defied it all- all the cheating and the bullshit stewarding calls. It was the beginning of believing we could do it- that we could come back. And the fuckin INSANE race craft are you kidding me-

So this particular song, from my personal interpretation, is about someone who makes you feel clean despite your traumas and someone who you'd like to be with until your last days but also makes you feel a little overwhelmed by your emotions sometimes. Ie: I was so excited when they confessed to me and we started dating that it low-key felt like I was having some kind of panic attack or about to pass out /srs I have a poem written about it I was just so happy and excited I felt heavy and lightheaded.
