(I kinda added a bit of Thomstair in there just bc)
As usual I hope u enjoy it and if there’s anything I can improve on then tell meeee! Here we go again with my amateur writing....Sry it took a long time! It’s kinda short but still hope it’s alright!

“Christopher!” the rest of the Merry screeched in unison.
Thanks to the Shadowhunter reflexes Matthew quickly retrieved baby Mina and cuddled her protectively in his arms while eyeing Christopher angrily. Though Christopher had a younger brother, it did not make him any better at holding babies. As James moved closer Mina, she stretched her arms up to her half-brother, staring at him with her dark brown eyes. James’s face softened as baby Mina instinctively warped her round little fingers around his index finger, gripping it tightly. Thomas was looking at Mina fondly but still refusing to hold her as he explained that he didn’t know how Alastair offered to give him a demonstration. It wasn’t that Matthew was horrible at holding babies but Alastair made it look so easy like holding a cup of tea or waking up in the morning which Thomas admired.
Watching Alastair with Mina warmed Thomas’ heart. He knew that Alastair would be a good father one day, maybe a perhaps even a brilliant one, definitely a much better father than Elias Carstairs had been. Alastair was properly supporting the baby’s head and was gentle with his hands, his face relaxed and his lips curled a ghost of a smile hung on his lips as the baby clapped her hands in excitement. He looked so content with the simple task that Thomas almost wished that Alastair could be like that more often. Lately he had been so stressed that Thomas felt that like a string Alastair would snap in half, seeing Alastair with Mina was like a dream. Something Thomas would want for Alastair, for Alastair to be happy, that would be more than enough. For Alastair to be happy even if it’s not because of him.
Thomas knew fully well that if they were to be together, they could not have what his parents had or any other couple would. He knew that it would have been very challenging and he secretly wondered if it really would make Alastair happy in the end for if they were together, they would have no children. He would never see Alastair like this with his own family. It broke Thomas’s heart to think that he would somehow take that away from Alastair.
He knew that the Herondale boy had told him that the future was very different, people could love freely and openly but not right now. This isn’t the future. Right now to love another man is a crime. Right now, it would hurt Alastair, not directly but he knew it would and hurting Alastair would be the last thing he wished to do.
Maybe in another life, they could be together, to live together and to grow old together. Maybe in another life they would have found each other again. Maybe in another life, Thomas thought as he glanced back into the room of familiar loving faces and some new yet loving ones.
Maybe in another life.
Maybe in another life, I will find you, Alastair Carstairs.

RE: Stripped Marks, Siblings
Something more about the “Lucie gets her marks stripped” theory.
@fairchild-squad @jesseblackthorns @princesslucretia @the-last-hours-shrine I’m tagging you because I’d like to know your input on this (please don’t hate me - it pains me to write this theory too but it has a twist which doesn’t require the marks being stripped lmao)
In this series we have many sets of siblings. All of them have/had a sister and the siblings relationship in TLH are fundamental to the plot.
James - Lucie Alastair - Cordelia - unborn baby Carstairs (I think will be a girl) Matthew - unborn sister Thomas - Barbara - Eugenia Christopher - Anna
Matthew’s unborn sister Matilda and Thomas’ sister Barbara have died already. Lucie, Cordelia, Eugenia and Anna are the sisters left. Now I would remove Cordelia and Anna because I think they are “safe” because they are protected characters. We have Lucie and Eugenia left. In terms of the story, if Eugenia were the one to become a mundane, it wouldn’t add much to the plot since she’s never appeared in TLH. Basically, we wouldn’t care simply because she’s never been introduced into the plot, she’s never talked, unlike her sister Barbara whom we have seen before her death. Whereas if it would be Lucie having her mark stripped, it would have impact on the story because Lucie is one of the main main protagonists.
Now, if we were to follow the logic of the previous series, you see that:
- In BC Edmund had his mark stripped because he decided to leave the shadowhunters - In TID the one with his marks not stripped, but changed, was Jem after he became a Silent Brother - In TMI Simon became a downworlder and then a shadowhunter - (I won’t say anything about TDA because I still have to read it, but there’s probably someone there too who has underwent this... Don’t spoil me I beg you XD)
As you see, it’s been one of the main trio who has had their marks stripped or became a downworlder or another figure in the shadow world. So the theory about Lucie is very possible.  And... have you thought that Jesse may not be able to receive marks at all? We don’t know why he died, but we know that those who are mundane or are downworlders, demons, warlocks, can’t bear runes and Jesse may have ties with someone who is not a shadowhunter because of his father - after all, he knows nothing about him nor do we.
This takes me to another point of this theory. Do you remember that Tessa’s mother was switched at birth with a sickly child by the faeries and lived her life as a mundane without knowing she was a shadowhunter because her grandfather Aloysius used to go after downworlders and collected things? Plus, the girl with whom she was switched died after receiving her first mark. Rings a bell?
Lucie’s maternal grandmother’s real name is Adele Lucinda - Lucinda is a variation of the name Lucie, so by calling her Lucie, it’s like her parents were also “honoring” Tessa’s mother. Again, this isn’t a coincidence, and for Lucie and James is also connected with the fact that they will face their maternal grandfather.
In the first scene Lucie and Jesse have together at the beginning of CoG2, he warns her about pit traps and there are references to the fairy people. Could this be a hint? Could Lucie meet faeries in the woods and they promise her things like, they promise to help her with the Jesse situation? So Lucie owes them. Maybe she doesn’t have her marks stripped but she is tricked by the faeries and has to serve them for a period and has to hide this from everyone.
To add to this, the “marks stripped theory” is also a parallel with Will. Will’s sister Ella died. When Will left, Cecily was alone (as was Will). I have this theory that Will and Tessa may have another child because of the brief moment they shared during Chapter 3 of CoG (which looked like an implied sex scene tbh but ofc I’m supposing from the implications). It could have been a foreshadowing or it was simply put there for the fans, no idea, but it’s there. Maybe there is a reason. Lucie may parallel with her grandfather and Will with his father when he lost him after he decided to become a shadowhunter. An inverted parallel so to speak. And James would also parallel with teen! Will because he would “lose” a sister.
As much as it’s sad and depressing, it makes sense if you think about it. But the variable is that, unlike Edmund who was a prop character, Lucie is a main one. So she won’t be cast aside if she’s banished, like Jem and Simon were and are still important main characters in their series even when they had to part with their friends. I know that it’s possible she’s not the one having to go through this, but she’ll still have her power and she’ll still be important to the plot.

A Last Chance, Part 3
Immediately, Thomas straightened. “Absolutely not,”
Sophie sighed with exasperation. “Thomas-”
“Do not listen to anything he says, mama. It isn’t true,”
“I know that, darling. Please, excuse us for just a few minutes,”
Alastair watched as Thomas looked to his father, his eyes begging for him to do something.
He did that. He interrupted this family’s grieving, in their own home, and spat insults to their face. And now, the one he’s trying to redeem himself to, the one he cares about, is feeling useless, unable to prevent his mother from being left alone with Alastair.
“Sophie, my love-” Gideon began.
Sophie cut her husband off with a single glance. “I will not ask again.”
Gideon looked softly at his wife. The two of them seemed to be having a conversation that no one else understood. Eventually, he nodded and walked towards the library doors, pausing to ensure that Thomas and Eugenia were following. Eugenia stood silently, sparing one misty look towards her mother. Thomas shook his head and, reluctantly, left the library. The glare he gave Alastair held a promise that set his heart racing. Alastair watched the door close, wishing he could leave as well, fearing whatever came next.
“Please, sit,” Sophie said, gesturing to the seat next to her.
Alastair nodded, carefully sitting in the chair as not to seem disrespectful.
“You are dedicated, I see. I imagine it must’ve been very hard to come here, especially if my son knew of these sayings. He is very protective of his family, my Thomas. You said he was upset with you? If his actions today reflect any of his previous behavior towards you, I will talk to him. I cannot apologize on his behalf, however, as he is his own man and is fully capable of making his own decisions. Nevertheless, I can address him on how he treats others, even those who mistreat him. A mother’s job is never-ending,” Sophie finished with a sad look.
Alastair didn’t know what to say. Except, “I am sorry about Barbara,”
Sophie looked away, but Alastair saw the glossy eyes. She exhaled slowly, composing herself before turning back to Alastair. She gave him a slight nod and he knew that that was all she could muster. She did not want to grieve the loss of her daughter with a stranger.
“You know, my husband was very much like you when he was your age,”
This was shocking. Gideon Lightwood, the real side of Gideon Lightwood, was only ever kind and understanding. Alastair could not fathom Gideon as cruel as he is- was.
“His father was… a difficult man. A sick man,” she continued. “He was an elitist of a sort. Arrogant and proud. And he taught his sons to be the same way. I had never met Gideon in this stage when I was a servant at the Institute.” As she said this, she straightened her chin, almost daring Alastair to react in an ill manner. “But I had heard stories.”
Despite the serious atmosphere, she smiled. “Then he took his travel year to Spain,”
Thomas had went to Spain as well, Alastair realized with a pang.
“Spain had transformed him, had erased his father’s voice in his head, he told me. Though it did not make him a better man. He did that himself. He realized the ideas his father practiced were not right and he turned away from him. But he did not leave his family. He worked to save his siblings, in particular Gabriel who was gobbling up every word his father said, not bothering to think for himself. He never gave up. Not on his brother, not on himself…. not on me. You see the kind of man he is now?”
Alastair did not want to break her flow so he simply nodded. But it seemed she had a different idea.
“And what do you see?”
He thought about it, recalling all that he had observed about Gideon Lightwood. “He’s kind and patient and… honorable,” he finished, with a new respect for the man.
“But he was not always so. He learned. He grew. And before he became better, what had motivated him, was his pain. He did not like the man he was. He did not like the relationships he had with those around him. So, before there was a change, there was suffering,” Sophie’s head tilted as she looked at Alastair with a gentle look. “Are you suffering?”
Alastair was taken aback by the turn of conversation. She so easily changed the topic to Alastair, as if he were part of it all to begin with. He did not know how to answer. He didn’t have to answer, he realized. He didn’t owe this woman anything. But that mysterious ability of hers, working so much like the Mortal Sword, was drawing his words out before he even understood what he was saying. “Yes… I have been for a while, I suppose,” he said, looking down at his hands.
Alastair felt betrayed by his own self. He did not realize how much he was hurting; He did not even realize he was hurting at all.
“My dear, I am sorry,” Sophie said.
Alastair head shot up. “You? Sorry for what?”
Sophie was still looking at him with that soft look in her eyes. “For everything. I am sorry you followed the wrong people. I am sorry for whatever situation you were in that allowed a little boy to think and speak with such hatred. I am sorry that it was never dissolved, that you had no one to help you. I am sorry that you are lost and in pain,”
Alastair could feel the tears running down his face, but he did not care. He was absolutely disgusted with himself for ever believing such wrong accusations about this woman. He was immediately filled with rage as he remembered those that still whisper about her to this day. She did not deserve this. She was better than any of the pure-blooded Nephilim he had met, and Alastair would not be surprised if she were made by the angels themselves.
Sophie moved to sit on the coffee table so she was directly in front of Alastair. “You say you want to fix yourself? There is nothing to fix. We all have a past to be ashamed of,” Something dark flickered in her eyes, so quick that Alastair thought he imagined it. “But we wouldn’t be who we are today if the past did not happen. Hide the shame all you want, but don’t ignore it,”
Alastair nodded, the tears still streaming. Before, he would’ve hated the idea of being so vulnerable in her presence. Now, he felt it was only natural to do so.
Sophie reached out to wipe the tears from his cheeks. “I forgive you, Alastair Carstairs,”
Alastair had never felt so light.
°°°
Alastair Carstairs is dedicated to becoming a better man. This means owning up to his actions in the past. He starts with the family that he hurt the most, the Lightwoods. But he leaves the family’s home filled with a mixture of emotions, after the reactions he received from them.
This is part three of a story about Alastair Carstairs facing the Lightwoods, because before I can accept Thomastairs, I need Alastair to own up to his actions.

Tumblr media
It’s Week 4 and Zoom University™️ is murdering me. But while ignoring my long backlog of lectures to watch, I stayed up until four to finish this book:
Chain of Gold // Cassandra Clare
★★★★ / ★★★★★
Summary in one gif:
Tumblr media
Real Summary:
We return to the world of The Infernal Devices, this time focusing on the next generation of Shadowhunters of the London Institute. After years of peace, London’s tranquility is broken by a series of bizarre demon attacks. James Herondale, Cordelia Carstairs, and their friends must figure out who is behind the attacks while navigating their own complex relationships with each other and their families.
Pros:
women with swords!
very nuanced characters
mutual Pining
Cons:
wayyyyy too many characters are introduced at once
slow af in beginning
Plot: 4/5
The overall plot seemed very standard shadowhunters with some new demon orchestrating everything, etc. etc. I was really taken in by the intricacies of the families plot though, like what was happening with each of their different families. The little flashback chapters in between the longer ones were also nice insights into each of the characters. However, I do think this book could have been a lot better if the ending wasn’t already pre-determined due to this being a prequel series? Like Cassis Clare has kind of written herself into a spot where she can only fill in the blanks and not really change the ending, yanno.
Pacing: 3/5
The first half was really slow and I definitely put down the book several times. But by the end, I had to read the rest in one go because lots of things were happening and I had to find out how it ended.
Worldbuilding: 4/5 I guess???
I mean she mostly built the world up with her other books? It was cool to see the idea of separate universes once again, even though Ragnor Fell’s explanation of them wasn’t super clear. I also. Really want. More Asian Shadowhunters. From the Asian Institutes.
Characters: 6/5
It was initially really hard to keep track of who’s who since they’re all related and stuff but WOW I LOVE ALL OF THEM. The way they all interact is very precious and like squad goals???? Like I don’t even care that much about like shipping characters I just want them to be happy and do dumb things together 🥺 Literally Alastair and Cordelia are the most precious siblings ever and I want many many books featuring just them and their childhood.
Also Lucie is a precious bean and I would die for her.
I’d recommend for:
People who loved TID
People who like found family tropes!
People who have big brains and can keep all the names straight
Would I travel here?
Can I? Please? I just want to meet Cordelia and be her friend 🥺🥺
Overall thoughts:
Cassie Clare is killing me with the angst but I like. Need more. Also everyone just needs a hug.
I have no idea what I’m reading next, but see y’all,
Tiff
Spoilers under cut
SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I SAID I WASN’T INVESTED IN SHIPPING BUT I AM????? JUST A LITTLE BIT??????
I don’t...actually ship...James and Cordelia...Cordelia and Matthew endgame please
I know the family tree says differently...but I have theories please ask me about them
Do i have to write something for them I might
secret...arrangement...
their characters complement each other so well????? Like I felt so bad when he walked in on James and Cordelia in the Whispering Room
Sad pining boi who won’t tell the girl how he feels so he won’t hurt his friend I’m weak
ALASTAIR IS PRECIOUS AND MUST BE PROTECTED
like the flashback scene where he came home and told Cordelia what he was doing at the Academy made me so sad :((((((
WHERE’S THE ALASTAIRxTHOMAS CONTENT
Charles is a loser and that’s the hill I’ll die on
Fake marriage/engagement??? Not my favorite trope but we’ll see where it goes I guess? istg if they actually get married and they really fall in love on the way imma push them into the Thames I don’t like jordelia (?)
ANNA LIGHTWOOD IS AN ICON
honestly i ship anna x cordelia more than jordelia but okay
Sona is an eternal mood
Also why are all the asian/middle eastern characters half white... there’s Jem, Aline, Cordelia and Alastair... I’m tired of this...

the thing about spending most of your childhood with people not being nice to you is that when someone is nice to you, you're not used to it. you're not used to being on the receiving end of affection, you're not used to good things happening to you. and so it gets very hard to accept it when good things do happen to you.
now imagine alastair feeling this, because he never really had people be actually nice to him, apart from like, sona and risa and cordelia maybe. but even then, he was the caretaker, he was the one pushing down his feelings in order to look after his mother and to protect his sister. so when someone (thomas) starts being nice to him, i think it will be difficult for alastair to accept the love and affection. because when you spend most of your childhood waiting for the other shoe to drop, you're always wary of how long good things will last. and it's also easier to step into the role of the giver, because in some way, it has become your comfort zone. you don't know how to receive love because you were always just giving it.

found love in your arms
THOMASTAIR WEEK, Day 1: Alastair Appreciation Day
AO3 LINK.
Alastair moves quietly around the room, cleaning, organizing. He straightens the pillows, smoothes out the bed sheet and comforter, stacks his and Thomas' books in one pile on the nightstand, puts all the miscellaneous items in their respective places—just letting himself get carried away by the familiar rhythm of cleaning.
It's easy, and the repetitive motions provide him with an opportunity to shut off his brain. Cleaning in itself gives him a sense of control over things. His room, their room actually—his and Thomas'—is something he can organize as he wants. He can decide where to put everything, from the smallest to the biggest thing; he has control over it. And Thomas doesn't mind, since he's not particular about things like keeping the shirts on the left side of the pants in the almirah, or arranging the books by size on the nightstand—keeping the largest one on the bottom, or the symmetry of the tapestry hanging on their wall.
He falls into the rhythm pretty quick, and is only broken out of it by Thomas' arms sliding around him from behind a while later. For a moment, he freezes at the touch, before his brain processes the familiarity of the hug and he relaxes, body going slack against Thomas.
"Hello," he mumbles, his own arms reaching up to rest over his fiancé's.
"Hi," Thomas mumbles back as he presses a soft kiss on Alastair's cheek.
Alastair turns around in the embrace, Thomas' arms resting on the sides of his waist now as he moves his own to squeeze and then rest on Thomas' shoulders. His legendary shoulders.
"How was the patrol?" he asks, thumb caressing Thomas' clavicle.
"Uneventful. No demons today," Thomas replies, resting his forehead against Alastair's.
Alastair hums and reaches up to press a kiss against Thomas' lips, just a quick peck, but Thomas tightens his arms around him and pulls him into a deep, yet slow, kiss.
"How are you?" Thomas asks when he finally pulls away.
Alastair scrunches his eyebrows in confusion. "Good. Why?"
Thomas smiles slightly. "Well, sometimes you clean around the house because you're upset or because you have a lot on your mind."
Alastair's heart fills with adoration. He still can't believe how much attention Thomas always pays to him, and to every little thing about him. It's wonderful and terrifying—to be loved so deeply. He is kind of always afraid for the other shoe to drop, but he has also learned to let go of that fear a bit, over the years.
"I'm good," he repeats with a smile.
Thomas returns the smile as he starts walking forwards, till Alastair is pushed back against the wall. "Good," Thomas says before he leans down and kisses him again.
All too soon, Thomas pulls back, and when Alastair tries to pull him down into another kiss, he moves and kisses Alastair's jaw instead. "Have I ever told you that you're incredible?"
"Hm, you might have mentioned it once or twice," Alastair says teasingly.
Thomas shakes his head. "That's not nearly enough. I need to tell you that more often."
"Well, I could be amenable to that," Alastair murmurs with a smile and tries to pull Thomas in for a kiss again.
But Thomas moves, again, and presses his lips to the hollow of Alastair's throat. Alastair sucks in a sharp breath as Thomas says, "You're wonderful."
Thomas starts pressing kisses up the side of Alastair's neck, mumbling words like 'beautiful', 'thoughtful', 'kind', 'loving', 'generous', 'smart' with each one.
Alastair curls his hand in Thomas' hair. When did he even get his hand up there? He doesn't remember. He pulls Thomas back by his hair and says, "Not that I'm, uh, complaining about this, but what is the reason behind this sudden appreciation?"
"I don't need a reason to appreciate you," Thomas says, bringing one hand up from Alastair's waist to cup his face. He kisses Alastair's nose—which makes Alastair scrunch his nose, almost a reflex—which in turn makes Thomas laugh as he kisses his nose again.
Not waiting for a reply, Thomas continues his ministrations, determined to kiss every inch of Alastair's neck and face, it seems. He keeps whispering praises with every kiss—compassionate, amazing, caring, intelligent, sweet, eloquent, incredible, incredible, incredible.
When he finally presses his lips against Alastair's again, Alastair pulls him into a deep and long kiss, pouring all his love into it. Thomas kisses back with equal fervour, tongue slipping into Alastair's mouth, kissing him slow and hard, like he knows Alastair is professing his love through the kiss, and saying his own I love you the same way back.
Yeah, Alastair is definitely amenable to all this.
