Just jolted awake at 5 AM to share this idea lmao:
Cosmic Storm: Accidental Alt-Mode Swap Scenario
Some kind of cosmic electrical storm hits the Lost Light and everyone switches alt-modes
They can't figure out how this is even possible, best they can figure is that one of the waves of cosmic electricity rolled over the ship and bypassed their shields enough to affect the crew, just this huge arc of space electricity scrambling everyone all at once
And as it arcs from crew member to crew member (and zaps the shit out of the ship too), somehow this messes with everyone's systems enough that their t-cogs all attempt to reboot while everyone is still connected by the cosmic storm energy
Which results in everyone's t-cogs getting alt-mode data confused, as everyone simultaneously tries to stabilise their systems by purging stored energy so they don't get fried, so because they're all connected by this singular pulse of space bullshit it's like one massive accidental transfer of spark energy, personal systems data, and cosmic electroshock
It's 5 AM sorry if I'm not explaining this very well LOL
But nobody dies, and their systems actually seem to be relatively OK afterwards as far as they can tell, so nobody actually realises there's a problem until First Aid and/or Ratchet asks everyone to book in follow up appointments for full systems checks just to be sure
And as part of checking t-cog function whoever the first patient of the day is gets asked to transform briefly as part of a physical exam designed to help spot any non-critical t-cog damage
And there's no t-cog damage, not to the t-cog itself. Scans come back okay, everything looks good, so OK, time to proceed with the transformation test. Root mode to alt-mode, and then back to root mode.
If the t-cog and associated systems are functional, it should be pretty straightforward.
And the bot does successfully transform...
..Just, into the wrong alt-mode.
And immediately, The Problem Of The Day becomes clear.
Gradually people around the ship figure it out on their own as well, while the Med Bay staff are trying to figure out what the fuck is going on
Over in the Science Lab, Perceptor is messaging Ratchet frantically because he's realised the problem as soon as he tried to switch into his alt-mode to study some samples of a metal panel from the ship which has some damage from the cosmic electricity and uh oh turns out he's a fucking helicopter now
It's a problem that also alters their root modes, but only after their first transformation post-space storm. Something fully triggers whatever is wrong with their t-cog data only once they enter alt-mode, their root modes then re-configure to accommodate these changes following that initial "wrong" transformation sequence.
They have their own colours, their paint nanites etc. remain the same as always, but their modes have changed. So they get any kibble etc. that might come with that new alt-mode.
So Brainstorm goes to pick up some energon for both of them, then comes back and Perceptor suddenly has rotors and holy shit
Eventually everyone on board figures out something weird/potentially bad is happening with their t-cogs. Some people are too scared to test it and find out, while others immediately can't resist their curiosity or think it's better to figure out as soon as possible so they can adapt, and test it as soon as they hear some bots are just turning into completely different things, totally reconfigured.
This could be fun, also sort of terrifying (there is potential for body horror to some degree), and either way it's chaos.
When Drift triggers his alt-mode, he turns into a cat-- Seems like he's got Ravage's t-cog data. Nobody can find Ravage, and Megatron makes it clear that he'll be the only one to attempt to find him.
Rodimus turns into some kind of aqueous vehicle. Maybe Camien in origin. (Turns out it's Nautica's t-cog data.) He's fine with it as soon as he realises he's space flight capable for short distances and Magnus has to talk him out of trying to race the ship.
Of course, because it's Nautica's t-cog data, when he reverts back to root mode, he has a distinctly femme Camien-style frame. He loves it, because his armour isn't as heavy in this form, so he can go faster. (Once this is all over, he is strongly considering keeping some of these femme frame alterations...)
And if you want to use this as a setup for any shipping, yes indeed, some bots inevitably try to test out their newly altered frames with their partners or amicas. (The medical staff all advise against this because oh god nobody knows all the functions of their new systems yet, please do not end up in the Med Bay with "makeout related injuries" they are dealing with so much right now LOL)
Anyway my moving date is 25/01 but as soon as I'm settled into my new place I might turn this into a fic if I have time lmao

Why Eclipse is GOOD DID representation despite what some people say. - From someone with DID.
Now okay before Ruin Sun and Moon were quite frankly opposites to one another. But considering the virus in this circumstance represents some sort of trauma it is understandable.
Also it is quite funny how people call Moon's actions evil when they don't with the other animatronics (when talking about it being bad DID representation). Also funny how you don't care that the other animatronics try to kill Gregory BUT right when its someone w/DID you jump up and down and say how it is bad representation.
On the subject of Moon though here are my thoughts on why he is so....creepy. He has security protocols like the other animatronics unlike Sun which means in this circumstance he would also be affected by the Afton virus. Because of this Moon is not evil. And also shouldn't be seen as such. Alters in a system that act that way are often misguided and need HELP which is what Cassie does in Ruin.
[ Note: Also it is important to say some alters WILL lash out and having representation of that is VERY important to me. Not all alters are sweet and nice and pretending representation can only be that is honestly not it. ]
Rebooting them made them whole again and brought the two extremes back into one. But to where both could still front. As shown by Sun thanking Cassie at the end of our visit with them. Which is honestly a nice note that I really liked.
That virus probably honestly fucked them up badly and to just go "evil alter evil alter" with little to no context is kind of not the way to go about it. Yes there are shows and movies that I won't name that are AWFUL but Sun and Moon were never like that and now with the extra context I can fully assure you them having DID in your headcanon or making your version of them have it is not problematic in the slightest. Have fun! Be creative! And most of all don't jump to conclusions based on minimal details! See ya!

lock... i currently feel like shit bc IM SO SICK how do u think chrollo will react if i poked at him and asked if he has some power to heal my sickness *cue slow speaking with blocked nose
he'd get this boyish grin and hit you with a,
"would the power of love suffice?"
then proceeds to look very satisfied with himself as your brain mentally reboots from having processed such cursed audio stimuli. he'll leisurely flip through bandit's secret while you stare at him with wide, semi-hopeful eyes. much to your chagrin, he shakes his head, and closes the dematerializing book.
"i did have an ability that could alter one's immune system," he'll reveal. "however, if the person whose ability i've stolen dies, their nen goes with them."
"huh. i wonder how they died," you frown.
"i checked their city's newspaper. they died from a cold, ironically enough."
"... seriously? that's messed up."
he shrugs.
"such is life, dear."
while you're fresh out of luck in that department, chrollo's rather adept at taking care of the sick. it wasn't uncommon for people to fall ill in meteor city. he'd often go days at a time without rest to nurse his friends back to health. he'll readily admit that he finds you endearing in this helpless state, but he also doesn't want you to suffer. how very generous of him.
he'll get his hands on the best medications there are to treat your ailments. there is a cost that comes with this, naturally. he informs that your co-pay will be giving him a kiss on the cheek when you feel better.
and no, he is not joking.

Clearing Up Some Confusion: Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is Not Powered by the Apocalypse
Tumblr media
There has been a little confusion cropping up here and there regarding our game Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy and its relationship to the Powered by the Apocalypse system, A.K.A. PbtA, which we would like to hopefully clear up in this post.
PbtA is a very popular system for indie RPGs lately, it’s safe to say most of the indie RPGs we see cross our dashboard use it, in fact, and since Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is an indie RPG that also happens to use 2D6+Modifier dice rolls, we can see where this assumption might come from. However, Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is not a PbtA game, nor is it a ‘hack’ of any other game. It is an original from-the-ground-up system that uses 2D6+Modifier because 2D6+Modifier is just a very good way to roll dice. It’s very predictable, and dice results that are randomized yet still predictable are beneficial both for players playing the game and for us designing the game.
Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy actually does take inspiration from other games, even PbtA games like Monster of the Week—though in Monster of the Week’s case, that “inspiration” often took the form of doing the opposite of what Monster of the Week does, because we actually found MotW far too restrictive and limiting in its character creation and other elements for the kind of game we wanted to play—but also Call of Cthulhu, Trail of Cthulhu, Gumshoe, Shadowrun, AD&D2e, etc, both in the “do what they do” and “do the opposite of what they do” sense. In fact, if your TTRPG doesn’t take inspiration from a good number of other TTRPGs, that’s probably a pretty bad sign.
Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy also takes a great deal of inspiration from non-TTRPG sources, some of which are probably pretty obvious and some of which might surprise you, such as Blood(1997) and Warhammer 40,000(the tabletop wargame specifically, not so much the lore). Other inspirations include but are not limited to: Kolchak: The Nightstalker, The X-Files, XCOM(the reboots, not so much the originals), Columbo, Hardboiled, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Scooby-doo, too many horror movies to list, etc.
That got a little off-topic, but this is supposed to be a promotional post for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy as well, after all—plus, I get excited.
Anyway, the point of this post is that the 2D6+Modifier dice system is where the similarities between Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy and the PbtA system end.
To elaborate, here are some—but not all—of the biggest differences:
No “Classes” or “Playbooks”
All PCs in Eureka draw from the same list of Skills, and spread their skillpoints around them how they see fit; as well as a collection of 3 gameplay-altering Traits that can be mixed and matched in any way, rather than being a set collection of “moves” or “class features”. This does not mean that all PCs are the same, Traits can make them vary wildly in how they play mechanically.
There are what could be considered two or three “categories” of PC in Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy(Mundane, Mage, and Monster), but these are not “classes” or “playbooks” in any way, they mostly determine what lists of Traits the PC gets to draw from, and due to the wildly gameplay-altering nature of these Traits, two Monster PCs in Eureka are likely to be far less similar to each other than two PCs both using The Monstrous playbook in Monster of the Week, and far less similar to each other than two Fighters in D&D.
Making Multiple Rolls per Scene
In PbtA games, it is fairly common for a single dice roll and a single “move” to dictate the outcome of an entire “scene”. In Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy, this is not the case. PCs may make multiple rolls of different Skills or multiple subsequent rolls of the same Skill within a single “encounter” or “scene”.
NPCs Make Rolls Too
That brings us to our third big difference for this post, the fact that NPCs also make rolls. In most PbtA games, NPCs do not make rolls, only the PCs do, but in Eureka, that is not the case. NPC stat blocks are not as robust as PC stat blocks, but they do still make rolls in the same manner the PCs do, especially in combat, which brings us to the last point I’m going to make in this post because I’m running out of time.
Deep, Intricate Combat Rules
Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is not a combat-focused game by any means, the party will probably only get into 1-2 skirmishes across an entire mystery, but when those skirmishes do happen, they will be played out using deep, tactical combat rules with multiple types of attacks and combat moves, including mechanical crunch for things like positioning and cover, multiple types of damage, environmental damage and effects, etc.
All of this should be telling you that Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is not only entirely different in its core systems, but also an overall crunchier and less improvisational-ruling system than PbtA, with tons of freedom in its character creation as well as plenty of rules and guidelines to help GMs make fair and realistic resolutions on the fly. That is not to say that Eureka is a complicated TTRPG, nearly everything in the game runs off the same core 2D6 system, making it very easy to learn and memorize—the rules crunch just means that if the outcome or appropriate modifier of a roll is not immediately obvious, you can rest assured that you can find a solid answer or at least a guideline with just a quick flip through the rulebook, either during or after the session, whatever is your preference.

Dixie's Character Sheet (V2!)
Tumblr media
The system's rebooted and Dixie is back to herself!
Nightwing is looking for the supposed "reality-altering program," but she's unaware that the program has been sent to random people's devices in the form of a Character Sheet with her traits, details, and history!
You definitely wouldn't make changes to her existence by submitting changes to her inbox, right?
(Try to keep submissions somewhat brief so everyone can chip in!)

BRACKET REVEAL
Alright. At long last, I present to you the bracket...or should I say...*BRACKETS* for the Virtual Character Tournament!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given the scale, the first round is going to be one bracket per week, 4 a day, with each lasting 24 hours. I know that this is still tight, but given how many contestants there are, along with the necessary inclusions of images and propaganda (oh and I guess also my job), it's what I can do to keep this semi-manageable. There's also no redemption round this time. It's gonna be a single elimination tournament. Be kind to your peers. This is not but a drop in the infinite ocean of the internet.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's the nerf! What's the nerf!!!! For melvin I mean ahaah I've been thinking about it since you mentioned it
ah, so , it is a video game term for when a strong character gets a reduction in their abilities to make the playing field fair.
melvin has the ability to alter the world as if he was in god mode in mine craft or any game that has that admin ability.
from changing the color of a potted plant to deleting a whole mountain just cause it's in the way.
however, i felt having that with no real self-consequence other than just being sent to some magic limbo wouldn't be fair as his punishment would be far too long to have done. [see abilities and consequences here
https://www.tumblr.com/donagotchi/720036822491742208/ill-fix-these-up-later?source=share
melvins Nerf is now that he needs a few seconds to handle bigger tasks which are hologram screens and weak data points.
like a mage in an RPG game, mana, if you will. bigger tasks take longer to conjure, and more time to boot up. and if he's not concentrating or loses said concentration, he can short-circuit what he's trying to hack into or need a full few moments to reboot his systems to get back online.
he can also grow weaker with each strong power move he does, which can cause a loss of focus if ever he were needing to handle something, lacking in concentration thus being unable to use his abilities.
and during the Kraang invasion, he had little to no control over his abilities which would fluctuate from strong to weak that whole night. when the invasion was over, his body was weak but his powers were unstable, thus being forced to stay indoors or he might cause harm to others or get himself exposed to humans where he can no longer control his ability to go invisible.

Do you have any voice headcanons for the characters in system rebooting and data recovering?
I do! :D these are just my favorites atm like whenever im showing spamton to friends trying to get more ppl on this DR train i always refer to theniftytable's VA of spamton here: https://x.com/theniftytable/status/1571245791741616132?s=20
he just sounds so broken in this and i think it's so fitting for him (and it's the closest VA i can find to his canon voice) and it's what i reference in my head when it comes to writing his voice
To me though I personally headcanon the addisons all sounding the same, maybe with slightly different variations of pitch and tone. They're all from one mold, and at one point spamton sounded very similar to them, maybe with a desperate tone to it, as if he's trying too hard, which makes his vocal alteration just that more... jarring. Though I love hearing about others' headcanoned voices of them! It gives them a little more personality when I think about them potentially having different voices.
Jevils is pretty obvious, his canon voice is the clearest compared to Spamton, and he just sounds exactly as he looks and its perfect
I headcanon Swatch's voice to be low, smooth like butter, can put you to sleep type of deal. They're approachable and hospitable, and it's a nice contrast to Queen's voice. So when they get angry it's like 'oh shit what did you do to piss them off?' and Spamton has heard that side of them more than anybody else because other than dealing with him, they're very level-headed

What projects are you currently working on? Both Undertale/Deltarune related and not related.
i got my hands in a lot of things always LOL
lots of stuff under the cut
Undertale / Deltarune
Fangames I Co-direct
- Fallen Fates - Undertale Prequel Full Fangame (?)
Fallen Fates is an Undertale Prequel that aims to follow the "What if you got to play as Chara when they originally fell into the Underground?"
Status: LONG Hiatus. Stuck on concept development as the lead project head is busy with his career. Hopefully, we can jump-start development soon! But we're not fully sure WHAT type of game it'll be. So despite being an old project, it's been rebooted and on hold. That said the team really does want to make this game regardless of how long it takes.
- Sensational Studio's Underswap - Undertale AU Full Fangame
An Underswap fangame that isn't what it seems... it aims to be an exciting re-imagining of Undertale with some Deltarune inspiration.
Status: VERY active development. While not publically discussed, the game has been in stead development this whole time.
- Alteration - Undertale AU (I'm a writer, NOT co-director)
On hold as the project lead is writing a draft. I help with the world-building and concept art. Not much I can say on this one as it's been rebooted.
My Projects
- Angel's Lullaby - Undertale Prequel Full Fangame
An ambitious Prequel that aims to be a "next console (DS) style prequel" that covers the Human and Monster War. Following a new protagonist, a Zombie, who is stuck between both sides of the conflict. Use your unique abilities to form a party and decide which side you'll join. Explore the Island of Monsters and uncover their past and secrets. Can you stop the war?
Status: MESSY. Ok so like. This is my fault 100%. We've switched engines MULTIPLE times and that meant re-coding things every time. Outside the battle system, the game's systems are 90% done. Cutscenes, dialogue, menus, save system, etc. So it's CLOSE to becoming a demo but I simply have been burnt out + don't have much time in the day to work on this. However, I DO think I'll keep working on this as the gameplay is fresh and exciting, and my love for the characters are coming back.
- NightFell - Underfell AU Full Fangame
Jackie is just a regular human teenager who stumbles upon a gateway into hell. There, they'll face the monsters who live on Mt.Crown and are stuck here. There's only one rule in this place: Kill or Be Killed!
A very different take on Underfell, that aims to place the Undertale cast and push them into an Underfell society instead of them having always been in one.
This is honestly my favorite project. It's built on the ideas I developed from a canceled fangame called Spookytale, with permission from Jevil to continue the concepts. My most favorite OC ever, Pumpkin, is in this game. While I am waiting for the DR engine my friend Lasers and I are working on to be made first, Nightfell is honestly the least ambitious and most fun game to make. While the story is a rough draft, it's the most complete. I ADORE this game. I'm so excited to make it.
- Fallen Royalty / New Royals - A webcomic / Video game Combo
An Everybody Lives AU that aims to take a hard look to what it'd be like to actually be resurrected. Deals with the themes of growing up, moving past trauma and accepting a second chance at life.
Originally an askblog from 5 years ago, Fallen Royalty is a rebooted comic that I work on. It has a video game adaption, New Royals, as well as video-game segments for the sidestories. Kinda stuck in development at the moment, as I got [redacted] to work on. But the newest Sidestory, DOWN, is in development and should be out soon-ish.
This is my magnum opus, my love letter to Undertale. I have to make a version of this story that's complete and to my best of writing. The tumblr askblog version, while finished, is missing chunks of the story. Follow me at @askfallenroyalty to see it's development
Danny Phantom
- Electrical Undead - my default AU full of headcanons.
In short here are the main ones: Danny has an electrical/light core + full inverted colorscheme + No clones, Ellie is an AU counterpart instead + Nonbinary Sam and trans Danny + sentient portal
- Lingering Spirits - Farmboy!Danny + Nobody Knows AU
When the weird new kid, Danny, moves into town, strange incidents begin to occur. Ghostly sightings, unexplained phenomena, danger around every corner... Can Sam and Tucker get to the bottom of it before the whole town breaks into chaos?
A Horror AU with an angsty, bitter Danny. When his parents are taken during the portal accident, Danny and Jazz move in with Aunt Alicea. After an incident, the family moves to Amity.
So basically: Fallen Royatly is my main thing. SS will require me every few weeks to work on things. FF and NF are on hold. Angel's is in development, typically worked on every Monday but has been on hold since I moved. When I'm burnt out on working on Undertale stuff, I'll work on Danny Phantom stuff. I always have something going on so I keep myself active.

TELL ME ALL ABOUT YOUR AU PLS PLS PLS 🙏🙏 also abt mike/mal or zee in the au ^^ (p.s. i love your art so so much)
after owens murder mike has been very stressed which has lead to mal fronting more and more. in idwbf mal isnt "evil" nor are most of the characters, its mostly a story of no ones really a good or bad guy except for sierra because yknow, murder. but anyways after all stars mal starts to regret the decisions hes made during the seasons, because deep down his headmates (is that the correct term hdvsj) are like family to him. however alejandro and duncan are there to reassure him that they will love him no matter what, he goes through somewhat of a redemption arc and while he still has a short temper and can be a little angsty, he tries to be better thanks to the support of the people around him and the other alters in the system so yeah
for zee like ive said this takes place 15 years in the furture while the reboot is airing so hes the way he is in the show
HOWEVER
i have some plans in the future regarding the td23 cast >;3c

Who or what are you?
(Cl4ve11 startles, fear flooding his systems and causing a reboot. His eyes glitch momentarily in response to the unexpected voice. He looks around, confused at first as he tries to pinpoint the direction of the seemingly disembodied auditory stimuli as he skims his code log. He lets out a soft hum, the fear disappearing as he reads)
"Well... Startling as it may be to... Hear into the Interdimensional Void... At least I now know the Command didn't alter my Core in an unsatisfactory manner.
(He takes a mimed breath, his eyes flashing momentarily aqua.)
"To answer your query. For all legal reasons, my name is Director Clavell, and I am human. But... seeing as how you seem to be able to access my internal processes... I'm sure you are aware that is not the case."
(He cues a tangible HUD, resting one had on his desk, the other flicking back and forth as he pans through several files on display.)
Tumblr media
"By all rights and purposes... I am an Android created by Professors Sada and Turo, designed to help assist them since teenhood. Turo created my physical form, and Sada my mind and inner being. My primary objective was to be a companion and friend, since both of them lacked such upon my creation."
(A somber look crosses his face as a mix of sad and melancholy emotions tangle for attention in his core. He dismisses the HUD with a wave of his hand)
"Much has changed since then. I am more aware now... more... well, human would be a term for it. My Directives have changed... but that one thing has never altered. I am Cl4ve11... and I am their friend above all else."
(Cl4ve11 seems somber)

The Watchman of the Underworld: A Deep Dive into Book 6
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BOOK 6, OBVIOUSLY.
Your girl finally beat Book 6, and it was totally crazy! I had to read it a couple of times to try to piece together some more ambiguous parts of the story, mainly about Ortho. After letting it simmer in my brain for a while, I'd like to give my interpretation of the story with references from the game; maybe this can help other players make sense of the story. My interpretation is by no means the end all be all, and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Note: For the purposes of this deep dive, I will be referring to the original, human brother of Idia as OG Ortho. The humanoid robot Idia created and modeled after his brother will be referred to as Robo Ortho.
First, the catalyst of the series of events: Why did Ortho go rogue and shut down the Cerberus security system?
Initially, I thought it was OG Ortho who encouraged Robo Ortho to shut down Cerberus; then later, I thought it must have been a phantom impersonating him, because OG Ortho wouldn't do something so bad, would he? After that, I realized it WAS OG Ortho who was encouraging Robo Ortho to shut down Cerberus and release the phantoms.
But why would sweet OG Ortho do such a thing?
First and foremost, in OG Ortho's mind, he is doing this to help his brother. Idia is essentially heir to a kingdom of death, unable to choose any other path in life but running Styx and the Underworld. (I also think the Shrouds and the Underworld may have a symbiotic relationship; the Shrouds need blot to burn, in theory, or their curse will start eating away at their own bodies. The Shrouds need to live in the underworld; they are bound to it. I think Idia can attend school away from the Underworld because he is using magic and producing blot, which he can then burn. Plus, blot is composed of negative emotions, which our gloomy boy has plenty of. But I digress) When Robo Ortho begins considered ways to alter Idia's fate after hearing Vil's words about change and not wanting things to stay the status quo, OG Ortho seizes this opportunity to coerce Robo Ortho into shutting down Cerberus, which will cause the phantoms to be set free, the rest of humanity to be turned into phantoms, and for Idia to be able to live whatever kind of life he chooses, as the world will be "reset."
Tumblr media
I believe that the voice that Robo Ortho hears IS the OG Ortho, because the voice says, "I've been here long before you were born" (or created).
Tumblr media
Robo Ortho, upon hearing the voice say "Idy" (Nii-chan, in Japanese), says, "Wait, is it you?!" as if he is recognizing this voice. Who else could this be but OG Ortho? In the aftermath of the battle, when Idia is rebooting Robo Ortho, Ortho says "I thought both the original Ortho and I got swallowed by the Underworld..." This confirms that the voice was, in fact, OG Ortho.
Tumblr media
So what IS OG Ortho?
I believe this is intentionally ambiguous, but I have a few theories. OG Ortho was killed by the phantom, and became a spirit locked within Tartarus. Another theory is that OG Ortho himself became a phantom banished to Tartarus. That would make sense, because a young boy brutally murdered would probably have a lot of negative emotions and produce a lot blot upon his death, possibly turning him into a phantom. This would also explain the seemingly sinister nature of OG Ortho coercing Robo Ortho. Either way, OG Ortho is a dead entity locked in Tartarus.
So who's doing this? Robo Ortho or OG Ortho?
Both.
After shutting down Cerberus, Ortho(?) appears to Idia in a hologram communication. After explaining the plan to Idia, he writes it off as a bug, until Ortho(?) calls him "Idy". This is a name that ONLY OG Ortho ever called Idia; Robo Idia seemingly never called him by that name (In Japanese, Nii-chan vs. Nii-san, the first being less formal and more familiar).
Tumblr media
As soon as Idia hears this, he knows that this is OG Ortho, communicating through Robo Ortho's robotic body. Despite "knowing what happened to Ortho that day", Idia realizes that the only ones who can shut down the Cerberus System are people with the Shroud family DNA. Earlier in the chapter Idia explicitly states that Robo Ortho does not have the clearance or permissions to shut down Cerberus, and he certainly doesn't have any DNA. This confirms to Idia that the person speaking to him is indeed OG Ortho. Idia, overcome by emotion of hearing the voice of his dead brother, rushes to the underworld gate and overblots.
Tumblr media
Well, why didn't OG Ortho just open the Underworld gate and climb out right after he died??
He didn't have the means to. He needed a physical helper, in this case, Robo Ortho. I believe that OG Ortho seized on the opportunity to easily influence Robo Ortho, as he was focused on how to change the future for Idia.
So what happens to the Orthos in the end?
Both Orthos seem to be swallowed up into a Hades-shaped phantom seen in the boss battle against Idia. Once they are defeated, the big phantom containing both Orthos plunges back into Tartarus, with Vil being unable to save him, probably due to his massive size.
Luckily, Robo Ortho is able to be revived due to Grim eating his memory card. Grim probably wanted to eat the black stone that appears after someone overblots; in this case, instead of a black stone, it was a memory card, due to Robo Ortho being a Robotic being.
Tumblr media
So what about OG Ortho?
Initially, I thought the Ortho seen in Idia's memory telling him it's not time for him to join him yet, is Robo Ortho and a manifestation of his "spirit" as he "dies" and his memory card falls into the underworld. I realized that this is incorrect, and this is in fact, OG Ortho. I know this for two reasons: First, this Ortho calls Idia "Idy". Whenever this nickname is used, we know that it is OG Ortho, as he uses it exclusively. Secondly, this is the only time in the game (so far) that we see Ortho's entire face at once, both his eyes and his mouth. I believe this is to symbolize that this IS the OG Ortho; Robo Ortho always appears with either his eyes or mouth covered, as if to suggest that he is not "completely" Ortho.
Tumblr media
So why does OG Ortho in the flashback have Robo Ortho's robot body?
During the end of this chapter, it is implied that OG Ortho had taken over Robo Ortho's body, or that they were at least sharing a body, so it makes sense for him to appear in this form (also, I imagine the developers did not want to have to create a whole 2D Live model for OG Ortho for one scene; showing his whole face was enough to communicate which Ortho he was).
So who is the current Ortho?
After replacing his memory card, Robo Ortho is restored. He awakes and states "How am I here? I thought both the original Ortho and I got swallowed by the Underworld..." (again reinforcing that the OG Ortho had fused with Robo Ortho in the big phantom).
Tumblr media
Idia explains that he replaced his memory card, to which Robo Ortho replies "In that case, I wonder if the original Ortho..." This is meant to be ambiguous, and is ambiguous in the original Japanese as well, where Ortho says something like "In that case, that person..."
Tumblr media
Robo Ortho then states that the area around his memory card feels warm. He states "I feel it. Ortho is right here."
Tumblr media
I believe he is referring to the memories left by OG Ortho. Idia doesn't seem to catch on to this, and writes it off as an irreparable bug that gives Robo Ortho his own will, and that he "has a heart now" possibly due to the electric shocks from the thunder spear. But we know that Robo Ortho now has a heart due to fact that he and OG Ortho had, for a time, become one being, sharing thoughts, feelings, and memories, as Robo Ortho explicitly states, "The memories and feelings Ortho left me all reside withing my core. I am Ortho, and Ortho is me."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robo Ortho is now, effectively, a “perfectly programmed” Ortho, having all of OG Ortho’s original thoughts, feelings, and memories. Robo Ortho is more or less a carbon copy of OG Ortho now, rather than just an AI modeled after him (plus Robo Ortho’s own experiences). Any oversights on Idia’s part of coding him to be like his brother have been overwritten; he is now nearly exactly like OG Ortho, having shared memories. Idia does not seem to truly grasp the gravity of Ortho's experience, and is more concerned with Robo Ortho's new free will.
So is Robo Ortho now the same as OG Ortho?
Almost. Outside of Robo Ortho’s own unique lived experiences, they share the same “base” which is OG Orthos thoughts, feelings, and memories.
(Initially I thought that OG Ortho and Robo Ortho had fused and become one being, and OG Ortho's "spirit" was now residing in Robo Ortho's body, but now I think that the shared memories, thoughts, and feelings shared between them essentially copied OG Ortho's "heart" into Robo Ortho. I believe OG Ortho now resides in the Underworld, awaiting the day when Idia will join him after he has lived a long and happy life.)
However, in the end, this does not particularly matter as Robo Ortho has been Idia's "real brother" for "a long time."
Tumblr media
Maybe all of this was obvious to other readers, but it wasn't to me, so maybe this can help some other players as well. I hope my word vomit made some sort of sense.
I'd love to hear what you think in the comments, and if you agree or disagree with my analysis.
I'm hoping Book 7 will be this juicy and drama filled when it comes our way!

Okay so ya'll are actually gonna hate me for suggesting this but there's this concept that has come and gone from my mind pretty regularly for like, the past 8 years, I swear. It's not something I even remotely headcanon, or even have the courage to fully explore, but I really wanna get it out there. This is about Pixal and Zane's relationship. You ever notice how drastically their dynamic shifts within only a few episodes back in season 3? Like, Pixal shows this initial interest in him, yeah, but it's sort of a "Wow cool, a droid who's built completely different than me. How fascinating" while Zane's interest is very obviously romantic right from the get-go. But by like, the end of the second episode they're stupidly in love with eachother (Pixal even sacrificing herself temporarily for him). From what I can tell Pixal's feelings start getting stronger sometime after the part where she fixes Zane up (forgive me I have not seen Rebooted in a LONG time) because she goes from "I am not different. I am PIXAL. And your repairs are complete" to "We are... compatible?" in like 3 scenes. Pixal seems to attribute her feelings for Zane to him giving her half his heart (as she says in Crystalized) but honestly I don't think that makes sense? Yeah it totally made their connection stronger (even in a literal sense, as with them doing spinjitzu together) but it doesn't seem like the starting point for her catching feelings (and there's nothing in canon to suggest that you need a magic blue power source to HAVE feelings). From where I stand, the turning point is closer to the scene where Zane uses a Technoblade (may he rest in power 🙏) to rid the Overlord from her system. Now, the canon reason for this is probably "With the Overlord in her system, even dormant, it made it difficult for her to access her own emotions. Cleansing her system made these feelings finally surface, which is why her love for Zane becomes more obvious" and that's the explanation I'm happy with. But the slightly more disturbing answer is... Technoblades have two main functions: Cleansing the Overlord virus, and reprogramming the device to suit one's preferences. The second one is mostly used to give mechs and vehicles a cool, colour-coded makeover so they can sell more lego sets, of course. But would it be completely insane to suggest that maybe, unintentionally (because he'd NEVER do it intentionally) Zane sort of... slightly altered Pixal's programming to be more into him? Again NEVER on purpose, he wouldn't dream of it. But the subconscious is a powerful thing. Just a (very cursed and terrible) thought.
