Alcohol tips for newbie writers (or non drinkers!):

At bars, people who order “chasers” after their shots are ordering something to wash down the taste of their shot with. This can be juice, soda, more alcohol, or even pickle juice

Hard liquor is generally sold in stores as shots (tiny bottles), fifths, liters, and handles or in ml (50, 100, 200 etc)

Most people can’t finish an entire fifth of hard liquor (vodka, etc) on their own without being very ill

Conversely, many people can finish an entire bottle of wine on their own without being ill

Liquor can be “bottom shelf” or “rail” or “well” -- all synonyms for the cheapest version of alcohol a bartender has. Bars generally keep several “levels” of alcohol stocked

You order a drink with the alcohol first, then the mix -- e.g., a “vodka soda” or a “Tito’s and tonic”

When you “close out a tab”, you pay for all of the drinks you’ve had that night. Either the bartender already has your card (you “opened a tab” earlier) or it was quiet enough that they just kept an eye on you and tallied your bill up at the end

“Doubles” are drinks or shots with double the standard pour of alcohol

In the US, most shots (pours) are 1.5 oz by default. 

Mixed drinks (gin and tonic, vodka lemonade, cosmos, etc) are generally made up of 1-2 shots and a mixer 

If you don’t specify which type of alcohol you’d like in a mixed drink (vodka cranberry, for example) the bartender will put whatever the “house” liquor is -- and this depends entirely on the establishment. A dive bar will pour rail by default, whereas a nicer tavern might make all vodka cranberries with Tito’s

MACDENNIS TIMELINE CONDENSED

ok so the other one is kinda long. Here's the short version.

Macdennis can be separated into 7 phases.

(S1-S4) - In these seasons the homoerotic undertones are treated as more of a bit.

(s5-s7)- 5 is Dennis' most thirsty season, he nearly adores Mac (not to say he doesn't try to control him or get irritated by him). Then, after Dee pointing out how gay they are getting, there's a big pullback. Dennis says no homo, Mac says definitely no homo, Dennis gets married and kicks Mac out, Dennis gets divorced so fast and lets Mac back into the apartment.

(s8-s9) Mac tries to kiss Dennis on the mouth out of nowhere. Mac and Dennis have monthly dinner dates. They wrestle naked in a shower, but the "wrestling" is more like a swaying embrace. Their apartment burns down.

(s10-s11)

Mac and Dennis live with Dee now. They have to take turns jacking off to the same creampie videos to get off now for some reason ( I don't know why people think they were doing it together because from what I can tell they weren't). They move into a house together and nearly kill each other.

(s12)

Mac and Dennis are back in their own apartment. Mac comes out for real. Mac gets Dennis a Valentines day present, causing him to tear up. Dennis leaves the state to go raise his secret son.

(s13-14 )

Dennis' angriest seasons, needs a hug badly. He comes back from north Dakota. Mac pines hard, tries desperately to do what Dennis wants him to, but Dennis just wants him to take control.

(s15-16)

Mac backs off. The power has flipped, and Dennis is slipping. Mac explores his identity.

(Mac/Dennis Jr., Mandy/Brian Jr.) -suburbs/double life

(Macdennis paired with married couple/gruesome twosome paired with father son duo) - Gets romantic

(MacDennis/Malcom and his dad)- celebrity booze *the parallel could also be dennis/frank malcolm/his dad instead*

Hugh Honey and Vic Vinegar- Pretended to be gay married realtors

Double life- Pretended to be in an emotional relationship to get Dennis out of having to be with Mandy romantically.

Johnny- Dennis Catfishes Mac into having an emotionally and sexually involved romantic relationship with his online alias.

Seeds Planted in Frost & Starlight

A compilation of every nudge, hint, whiff of foreshadowing that we got in Frost & Starlight, which decides where the stories will go. Not including bits about Cassian and Nesta, since we saw their story play out in ACOSF already. 

Elain

Elains powers, and how she hasn’t “used” them since the war, are mentioned enough that it’s obvious we’re going to explore it again. 

Her friendship with Nuala and Cerridwen, how “(the wraiths) spent more time with Elain than (Feyre has). They understood her moods, what she sometimes needed” It’s a close enough bond that we are clearly going to see explored...which opens up possible storylines of spying and learning even more new skills. 

Her obvious feelings for Azriel. It’s canon. It’s there. 

The mating bond. Her feelings about that are clear at this point, in that she doesn’t want it. 

Azriel

His backstory, his family, his lineage. We get hints and clues (”Rosehall” “Buy her something from me this time”), but nothing beyond that. 

Azriel’s shadows themselves are mentioned a few times, how they are shadows but aren’t, how they’re different from Rhys’s power, etc. Shadowsinger mythos will be delved into, and more with Truth-Teller. 

His feelings for Elain. Again, it’s canon. It’s there. 

Confronting his feelings/connection with Mor..

Mor

Her long overdue vengeance. “Those were her deaths to claim. They had always been. I had never asked why she waited so long.” Rhysand tells us. 

Revealing of what truly happened with Eris and his motives for leaving her behind

A conversation with Azriel where she reveals her truth (not a seed planted, but something we know needs to happen from ACOWAR)

Mor’s powers and her secret life 

Love interest. It’s going to happen, the build up and her obvious want of it has been hinted, and we were even introduced to her potential future lover:

Emerie & Mor - we got Emerie’s full backstory in this book, and even though we don’t see the suggestion of this pairing until Silver Flames...it’s there simply by her being introduced here. 

Autumn Court

Beron & Eris. Beron has outlived his time, and we have the obvious bargain to help Eris take the throne. Eris will be High Lord at some point. 

Eris redemption arc has been, again, hinted at time and again. He postponed Kier going to Velaris, why? He knows something Azriel doesn’t. He taunts Mor with knowing the truth about why he left her, and is finally realizing it. Feyre contemplates in ACOWAR what his time must have been like Under the Mountain, what games he had to play to survive. Other people have mentioned “he might have been a better male” if he had grown up somewhere else, etc etc. He’s getting redeemed. I have no doubt. 

Eris & Lucien...we’ll delve into that and truly see their relationship, how Eris probably has known Lucien isn’t his brother this whole time. 

Spring Court

Tamlin??? He will either get a redemption arc or die, and someone else will rule the Spring Court. Because it can’t go on being ruled by The Beast. Calanmai needs that yearly ritual to gift the land with it’s fertility magic.... 

Spring Court in general is going to waste, and will need to be rebuilt. 

Band of Exiles

Conflict with Koschei, Vassa’s curse needs to be broken...

Vassien. It’s .. very obvious.

Lucien and his movements. As emissary he now sends twice weekly reports to Azriel but outside of that, Az isn’t watching his movements so as “not to know if he seeks out Elain”. Potential here for some type of reveal since we won’t know where he’s going if Azriel isn’t watching him.

Lucien being heir to Helion. He'll find out. Helion might croak in order for it to happen, but either way, Lucien will find out.

Lucien’s mating bond. His feelings on this are pretty clear at this point too, and he really likes Vassa.

Other

We’ll have to deal with the Hewn City nobility coming to Velaris, meaning...meeting more of Mor’s family? Azriel’s family (which will be a given because we’re getting his POV anyway), and potential for new characters 

This comment from Rhys regarding the bargain to help Eris take the throne: “But I’d made a bargain with Eris too. Perhaps a fools bargain. But only time would tell in that regard”

The mysterious dark spot Mor saw in the forest on her way to her secret house. This might be something from Crescent City, or it’ll be part of the crossover. 

So much talk of Vallahan and the continent, we may spend some time there...with that King and Queen..

going insane thinking about the harrow and palamedes friendship. harrow, who has never met another necromancer her age forming a bizarro 3D chess rivalry while pal worries about her safety at every possible turn. harrow, who is up to her eyebrows in paranoia and secrecy, trusting the sixth house with gideon unconscious and hurt, letting them into the ninth house quarters unsupervised. if “i cannot conceive of a universe without you in it” is goth for i love you, “death first to vultures and scavengers” has got to be goth for i love you (platonic). pal’s first reaction when harrow comes into his bubble in the river is to scoop her up in a hug, and at this point she doesn’t remember anything about him because cutting out all her memories of gideon is impossible without cutting out memories of the sixth, but she still makes him a skelehand to inhabit anyway. when harrow’s memories are finally whole, she tells dulcinea she couldn’t face pal knowing that his pen pal girlfriend died on her account, but the next time she “faces” him, palamades’s soul is in someone else’s body and harrow’s body is full of nona’s soul. he spends six months protecting and caring for harrow’s body (and nona obv), believing in the possibility of bringing her back to it the same way cam believed in him. “god, do you know i miss harrow terribly.” and by the time harrow comes back to her body at the very end of ntn, pal is gone forever, fully pauled. the last time harrow and palamades see each other as their complete selves is in canaan house, alive and unlyctored. two of the smartest and loneliest people in the solar system meet each other in the worst of circumstances and spend the rest of the story dancing around each other as fragments of themselves, trying to care about each other in the interim but never fully meeting like they did the first time. a friendship made almost entirely of missing the other person. “do you know i miss harrow terribly.” god. i need to lie down

i love when tropes subvert expectations because they could have made the pirate king's son some douchebag antagonist or an obstacle to luffy's dream but instead we were given an older brother with so much love it still looms large even two years after his death. ace was born into a world that scorned him for existing, and still he found an endless reserve of unconditional love for luffy, enough for him to put his anger aside and raise this scruffy boy on his own. his father being the pirate king has been a thorn in his side for as long as he's been alive, yet he didn't hate luffy for making it his goal; instead, he went around showing off luffy's wanted poster and telling anyone who crossed his path that his little brother was going to become the king of the pirates.

and then he died with the sole regret of not being able to see luffy reach his goal, but he died happy to know that he was loved; that even if it changed nothing and didn't save him it was there. he got to die in the arms of the person who loved him the most, got to spend his final breaths thanking him for all the love they shared in the short time they were given together, and i think it's just so incredibly sweet and heartbreaking that of all the paths ace's character could have gone down, they chose one that had love at the center of it all.
