Samnite Bronze Helmet and Neckguard, C. 450 BC
This imposing helmet is a unique hybrid of the Samnite-Chalcidian type.
The Samnites were an Italic people living in Samnium (see Wikipedia article map, below) in south-central Italy who fought several wars with the Roman Republic. They formed a confederation, consisting of four tribes: the Hirpini, Caudini, Caraceni, and Pentri. They were allied with Rome against the Gauls in 354 BC, but later became enemies of the Romans and were soon involved in a series of three wars (343–341, 327–304, and 298–290 BC) against the Romans. Despite a spectacular victory over the Romans at the Battle of the Caudine Forks (321 BC), the Samnites were eventually subjugated.
What was known as a ‘Samnite Gladiator’ appeared in Rome shortly after the defeat of Samnium in the 4th century BC, apparently adopted from the victory celebrations of Rome’s allies in Campania. By arming low-status gladiators in the manner of a defeated foe, Romans mocked the Samnites and appropriated martial elements of their culture.

Prompt 89
The young justice team is in a bit of a pickle. It had been a usual mission, Klarion causing mischief again, before someone had mentioned the date.
The literal chaos lord had shrieked, stopping his attack, and asked for clarification. Maybe that wasn’t a good idea because one moment they were in Happy Harbour, and the next they’re somewhere else with green everywhere and floating islands.
And Klarion doesn’t explain- not that they were expecting him to- and just bolts into a… wow that is a very big and scary looking castle. Keep? Honestly it’s if someone combined a gothic citadel with a clocktower of some sort.
Not important, because they had chased after Klarion who uh… Oh no, that is a Very big entity, that is two Very Big entities that could crush them in their fingers. And they are now stuck in this place seeing as the portal closed behind them.
Honestly Klarion is happy he made it home before curfew! Even if he had to bring his sort-of-friends with him to make it in time. It’s not his fault, he’s not used to having a guardian, nevermind two! Not to mention siblings, which he’s now the oldest of too, so he has to be a positive influence. Like teaching them how to properly do chaos without destroying a world.
Oh, but this is perfect anyway, one of his dads has been wanting to talk to the speedsters anyway, and his other dad is still under house arrest for the whole, trying to take over the living realm thing. But that’s not important, he has little siblings to introduce!

What a cool gift. It's got horns, room for his obviously large nose and they didn't forget that he needs glasses.

A ROMAN TINNED COPPER CAVALRY PARADE HELMET
CIRCA LATE 2ND-FIRST HALF OF 3RD CENTURY A.D.
11 in. (28 cm.) high.
This rare cavalry parade helmet is one of just a handful to have survived and displays the extraordinary lengths Roman craftsmen went to convey the high status of their patrons. Crafted from a single metal sheet, this helmet is elaborately decorated in extensive repoussé work, including 3 mythical beasts and a gorgoneion. A high crest running along the dome has been fashioned in the form of a sea-griffin, with an eagle's beaked head emerging from the terminus and arching along the length, tapering in a fish or dolphin-like tail above the neck guard. The sea-griffin holds the head of Medusa in its forelegs at the crown. Each side is decorated in high relief with a sea-griffin. Originally all three creatures had now-missing ears riveted in place. The helmet is further ornamented with punched circles and dots along the edges of the dome and rim. With the hinged bronze facemask, which has now been lost, this warrior would have been poised for a dramatic effect in battle or ceremony.
While the Greeks had transitioned into lighter and more open armor to maximize the senses, the Roman cavalry choose to cover their entire face and head, leaving only their eyes, nose and mouth visible.
