UHM HELLO!! idk how to use tumblr tbh and im awkward so this is gonna be. uh. yeah HOW DO YOU GO BACK TO ANOTHER LINE - moving on. i love ur polynxx hcs soooo so much please i need more more more 🤲🤲
wahhh, hello and welcome to tumblr :D!!! im so glad i enjoy my nxx polycule stuff hehe and it's been a While since ive written for them (be it for fic or hcs) so this ask came at a lovely time. without further ado, here's some:
the nxx polycule date permutation hcs
due to everybody's schedules being immensely packed all the time, all 5 of them cant go out on dates/get-togethers very often with everybody in attendance. like, when theyre All together it's often for NXX Work OR they save it for special occasions (ex. christmas, new years, any of the team's bdays)
that being said, the Top 1 most common not-everybody date permutations are: artem + mc + luke, and then marius + vyn
-
artem + mc + luke can meet up often and easily because artem and mc work at the same place (so they can quickly figure out when their schedules align, quickly meet up), AND all three of them LIVE IN THE SAME STELLIS CITY DISTRICT!!!
they all live in South Stellis (mc's address was mentioned in The Birth of Stellis | Tears of Themis "Behind The Scenes" Episode, and artem's and luke's can be seen easily in the Stellis Explore function) so i can imagine just like
artem and mc finishing up with work and wanting to go out to dinner together and both of them independently and intuitively understanding that on the drive to the restaurant, they should go pick up luke because if left to his own devices he'll probably only chips and a stale salad for dinner.
mc shoots luke a quick text like "let's have dinner! artem's treat!" 5 minutes prior to them arriving at his shop, and luke panics trying to find something nice to wear because if it's Artem's Treat then that means the restaurant is gonna be QUITE UPSCALE AND FANCY and he doesnt want to look like their boyfriend who they picked off the street from a dumpster because earlier today he had just so happened to be tailing a lead for a case that sent him into the forest so hes all muddy. but hes only got like two (2) sweaters that he himself finds viable for a Fancy Restaurant Date
so when mc and artem arrive to pick him up, hes wearing the blocky xmas partyland sweater. at which mc visibly winces at and at which artem internally winces at
but they all go out for a nice dinner out anyway
-
MEANWHILE, marius + vyn's homes are in completely different stellis city districts: orchideshine and long beach, hemingway heights respectively. and the Stellis Explore function seems to posit these two locations as pretty far-ish away from each other, yeah, BUT....
marius' PERSONAL STUDIO is right in the same neighborhood as vyn's place
Tumblr media
i assume marius' personal studio is in this area because another thing thats in hemingway heights (that's just not mentioned in the Stellis Explore function) is Stellis University, where marius is taking his masters. so right after his classes, he can drop by his studio and destress before heading over to the CBD for work
ORRRR HE CAN DROP BY VYN'S PLACE UNANNOUNCED AND SWEEP HIM OFF HIS FEET FOR AN IMPROMPTU DATE
marius has mastered this art. he comes to learn vyn's schedule at the university, at the research center, and at his home so that he only shows up when vyn isnt busy and is most likely to actually say yes to an impromptu fancy lunch
and vyn acts like hes Bothered but he really isnt, especially when marius has the money to treat him out to the High End Pastry Places that even vyn "pastry master" richter can appreciate
basically it goes
marius, yelling on vyn's yard: hey vyn! let's go out on a date!
vyn: get off my yard
marius: PLLEEEAAASSSEEEE, i'll take you to that bougie place you like!
vyn: fine (secretly pleased to be spoiled)
-
that being said, while these are the most common date permutations due to the simple reason of proximity, they all still find time to meet up in different permutations and all together
vyn appreciates luke taking him out on dates to more simple places, like a family owned diner or a hole in the wall ramen place. while it's not his usual kind of place, he enjoys the food and seeing luke light up talking about the memories hes had in this particular establishment ("one time, i ate here immediately after a mission and i was still bleeding out!!" "....please take care of all open wounds before you have ramen")
marius and luke and mc often meet up online and video call to game together. sometimes artem will join in on the call, despite not being much of a gamer himself, but he just likes hearing their voices and enthusiasm and yelling in the background while he cooks or works
ARTEM AND VYN GO TO THE FARMER'S MARKET TOGETHER. theyre both culinary Geniuses after all, and together they are extremely picky about produce and honey and handicrafts like an old married couple
and of course, they all get together every once in a while when their schedules permit and have a lovely time and enjoy each other's company
-
bonus, what kind of dates each of their residences are best for
artem's residence: best for full-team dinners and movie marathons in his home theatre
mc's residence: best for cozy afternoons because her place is so homey!!
vyn's residence: best for full-team outdoor brunches and tea times and also if you want a touch of nature relaxing in his garden
marius' residence: best for THAT WALK-IN WINE CELLAR and also movie marathons because have you seen the wall-mounted flat screen TV in his bedroom??? phew
luke's residence: best for uhhh...if you wanna slip on stray files on the floor or stub your toe on his palette bedframe? JHFKJ JUST KIDDING, best for in-person gaming hangouts

i wanna see fifty five goldfinch pieces 💔💔
OKAY!! So I have this little series I like to call the great decompartmentalisation of Theo decker... Let me walk you through it. I promise there's art after the massive paragraph of meandering analysis alright
You know how Theo's life is segmented into these distinct episodes? And how he himself is split into multiple different identities, and how much shame and fear there is associated with the idea of those identities mixing? For example: the straight a student living a completely, delusionally idyllic life with his adoring mother and the vanilla teenage troublemaker breaking into people's summer homes with his shady homoerotic bestie. When the two identities come into contact via his suspension, it leads to the most traumatic event in Theo's life, and honestly I suspect that might be the origin of this tendency towards compartmentalisation... I could go through the whole book here but the most prominent examples are Theo panicking at the thought of Mrs Barbour or his therapist finding out about Hobie, his cutting himself off from New York when in Vegas with his other shady homoerotic bestie (the amount of times Vegas is compared to an alien planet...) and his dual post timeskip identifies of charming antiques salesman/fraudulent art stealing junkie. And this often manifests in Theo's reluctance to let people from his different periods interact - see him rushing to stop Boris from talking to Pippa, and him keeping Hobie in the dark about the blackmail, and isn't it kind of weird that the barbours - Theo's soon to be legal family - don't really interact with Hobie and Pippa? Anyway. Basically I thought it would be cool to make a series of little vignettes of theo allowing the people and places and things that represent various versions of Him to interact and thus symbolically healing the disconnected parts of himself... Or something. I have more ideas scribbled down but somehow the only ones I ended up with proper art for is the various holidays (which, holidays are also a weirdly prevalent theme in tgf? Idk whats up with that but it's a good tool for this purpose) so we have:
Christmas Eve at Boris's, featuring Pippa and Hobie - I feel kinda bad for only ever portraying Boris with polish customs but let's be real I'm just using him to show off my own heritage lol. In Poland the main Xmas celebrations happen on Xmas Eve, traditionally with the appearance of the first star in the sky. You eat the mostly inoffensive barszcz as well some truly vile shit, such as mushroom and cabbage dumplings, mushroom and cabbage salad, other items made of mushrooms and cabbage, and finally the most disgusting dish of my life: Jewish style carp. No, it's not quite the same thing as gefiltefish, although that's the Wikipedia page you might use to get to the actual dish. All washed down with compote which I hate. You also break and eat communion wafers while wishing each other stuff, which Pippa is doing with popchyk here hehe
Tumblr media
Christmas breakfast as a little bonus despite it not having much of a tradition - I associate it with lots of hams/cured meats, gherkins and maybe Tatar sauce (yum). Much superior to the Xmas dinner imho. Really I just wanted Theo and Boris to have a moment to themselves haha
Tumblr media
Christmas proper at the barbours, featuring Boris and Tom cable! I could talk about all the tension and who's diffusing it but honestly I think y'all can draw your own conclusions lol. I just think it would be really funny for the infamous dis-engaged couple to each bring their delinquent boytoys and for Boris the drug dealer to actually come out looking superior
Tumblr media
Vegetarian friendly Thanksgiving at Hobie's, as tradition requires! I think he'd love to throw one of his big Thanksgiving parties purely for all of Theo's families to get to know each other... you know, kind of an elaboration on that Thanksgiving illustration I drew a while back! This would be before all the Christmases I think. Boris is winning Mrs Barbour over with his roguish charm lol I think old ladies would like him... Theo in the corner freaking the hell out as per this project's mission statement lmao
Tumblr media
And on a slightly different note I wanted Theo Pippa and Hobie to all visit weltys grave. I'm borrowing slightly from the polish tradition of all saint's day, when you clean, decorate and light candles on the graves of loved ones.

A quick and dirty guide for those who want to get into the show, but don't want to watch everything from the beginning.
For Those Who Just Wanna Get An Idea of the Era
A Christmas Carol - 2010 Xmas Special
Tumblr media
Timey Whimey, fairy-tale like, charming, doesn't make a lick of sense, messes with established continuity, and accidentally makes the Doctor into a unrepentant mega arsehole. So I was thinking a little more about the idea of the Control Brains using the SIR units as sleeper agents like the Clone Army from Star Wars and having them Order 66 all the Invaders when they're no longer of use to them. Then I started thinking about the probable episode order of the unfinished season 2 episodes.
We know Nubs of Doom had to take place before Day of Da Spookies because Minimoose is in it, but DoDS has to take place after 10 Minutes to Doom because Dib mentions knowing the purpose of Zim's PAK in that episode, and DaDS likely took place before Mopiness of Doom because Zim's plan in that episode was to make Dib give up on the paranormal, which he does in MoD, only for Zim to realize he doesn't want that.
In the first season, based on the way everything was scheduled, it seems like BoTP was intended as the mid-season finale and the Halloween Special was supposed to be the season 1 part 2 opener. So based on that I would hazard a guess that the Xmas special was originally intended to be the season 2 part 2 opener while a different episode was to be the mid-season finale. Most likely The Trial, since I think that script was for a half-hour episode, and it's the only script we know of that wasn't just a run-of-the-mill Zim episode. The only other possible candidates I would say are When Pants Ruled and maybe Squishy, Hugger of Worlds, which was being written the day the show was cancelled.
Now, all that made me wonder what the season 2 finale was supposed to be. There are a handful of episodes we know of that were only outlines or basic pitches and never written, but I believe Top of the Line is the only script we know of that allegedly had a completed script that was never released, never adapted into the comics, and has very few details attached. Given that it was to see Tak return for the first time since the season 1 finale, it would make sense if they were saving her for the season 2 finale. But the only thing we know about the plot other than Tak and Skoodge being in it was that it was to revolve around a SIR competition. But what about that concept makes it worthy of being a season finale or the triumphant return of two fan favorite characters? Maybe something more important was going to happen in that episode, and that's why the details have been kept under wraps this whole time.
What if the Control Brains trying to Order 66 all the Invaders was actually going to be a thing? Years before Revenge of the Sith even!
Like, think about it. Does it really make sense to pull all the Invaders away from their missions for a SIR competition? We can assume Zim would show up whether he was invited or not. But why would Skoodge go? Perhaps, as with Hobo 13, because he was hoping that his SIR performing well would get him welcomed back into the Empire? IDK if Tak being a saboteur was actually confirmed to be part of the story, or just fan speculation. But wouldn't it make sense for her to be there if she also thought she had something to gain from outperforming all the other Invaders?
So what if the whole thing was a set-up? What if all the Invaders by that point had either already completed their missions and were looking for new assignments or expecting rewards for their service, or failed their missions and were looking for redemption, and the competition was sold to them as an opportunity to prove their worth to the Control Brains. But in actuality, its purpose was to lure the Invaders into a trap where they'd all be killed by their own SIRs. Tak and Skoodge would survive because they're badasses and if Tenn wasn't already dead she might survive due to her experience dealing with rogue SIRs while Zim, just like in the Virooz arc, would survive because GIR never stays in duty-mode long enough to finish the job. GIR would however accidentally cause the destruction of all the other SIRs, potentially saving several Invaders, but perhaps also causing the Control Brains schemes to go undetected. If however, any of the other Invaders realized what had almost happened, it might lead to them defecting from the Empire. So just like Dib getting Tak's ship at the end of season 1, there'd be an important change to the status quo and a progression of the plot to get people hyped to see the consequences in the next season. Like maybe the Control Brains sending assassins after Zim, or some surviving Invaders coming to earth to hide out and possibly plot a rebellion.

So I’m a religion major in school haha so I’ve always been fascinated by celeb’s religions too.
So Zac’s granddad (from Dad’s side) was Jewish and Efron is actually a Hebrew name. But aside from his Dad’s side being Jewish, I’m not sure + he’s never mentioned what religion his grandparents from his mum’s side followed (perhaps they were Christian? don’t know). However, Zac said he was raised agnostic (which isn’t atheist and doesn’t mean you don’t believe in God but rather leaves the existence or non-existence of God up in the air so basically you can question it and leaves you to explore religion on your own). Typically parents who were born into two different faiths (why I assumed his mum had a Christian background) but don’t actively practice any religion tend to raise their kids agnostic and leave it up to them to decide in the future.
Also I’ve noticed he’s never posted anything about Hanukkah etc but he has about Christmas and Easter (with childhood pics of the two holidays too) which makes me think it’s just because it’s all become a commercial holiday (even my atheist colleagues celebrate Xmas and Easter haha) and there’s no super religious connection to it.
But yes, you’re right I saw the cross kinda thing and I’ve seen him do it a few times before - but I always took it as a general kind of gesture acknowledging a higher power/ the universe with traditional symbolism of that.
I have seen him more and more curious and in touch with his spiritual side like in Down to Earth in the Paris episode but also in general with his meditation etc. Also on this press tour he seems to repeat “God doesn’t give you more than you can handle” a lot as one of the lessons he learned from the movie and in general I feel like he says God more than universe etc these days so that’s interesting.
At the end of the day, who knows haha but he’s definitely a good soul with a spiritual side!

Last episode. Let's all make our Christmas wish this year that it doesn’t come back
I don't even really remember how the stupid thing started (I may have been drinking to get through it XD). This is going to be disjointed because I rage paused a lot and I WILL NOT be rewatching any of this to get it correct. This show doesn't care about my time so I'm not wasting any more of it by rewatching, lol.
Kris is completely useless. Like there was zero point to him being in this season at all. I was also of the mindset that he was going to be a bigger role and maybe take over for Scott but he was completely pointless. I JUST REMEMBERED HE WAS THE KID THAT SAW SKINNY SCOTT WITH THE CANOE AND THAT WAS HIS SANTA ORIGIN STORY OR WHATEVER AND I STARTED YELLING AT THE REVISIONIST HISTORY AND MY HUSBAND WAS LIKE, ARE YOU OK?! AND I WAS LIKE DO I LOOK OK?!!?!
I may be wrong, but is this the first time we've actually seen the factory floor in this whole damn show? Like we're always in Scott's office, the stables, the real world, or the monitoring room. Have they even made any toys in these TWO SEASONS?! Maybe they have and
I liked the Betty/Olga fight (but like why a fake sword?) but the way it was cut back and forth with the Mad Santa/Scott discussion was annoying
The gnomes are just pissed cause they can't make toys... that's like all it took? Feel like we shoulda figured that out sooner. Same goes for Noel just being like, hey gnomes, just come help us.
The mug is the "amulet". Ok, sure. I didn't pause the show in anger about it. Like, not only did we rewrite and destroy the magic-powered watch from 2 earlier this season now we re-wrote the mug. None of this is helped by them bringing up the damn thing 2 episodes before the end like we knew anything about it and it wasn't just shoved in at the last minute. Does each Santa have a different "amulet" (for god sake just call it a talisman or something not associated with a necklace) or do they all get their power from the same ones? Did Judy technically drug him into being Santa then. Like got him drunk on Christmas power? If it's tied just to Mad Santa then why on earth would Judy still have it if there was a coup and all that shit to get rid of the man? Wouldn't it also be locked away somewhere?
Didn't Scott say he made Cal's vest out of the coat? Maybe I misinterpreted that in the early episodes but now he's just wearing it like no big.
Laughing really hard at Scott not realizing he's been a douche until the "villain" says he is with regards to Cal. MS should just be Santa and Scott can go live at the fake Santa village with Fluffy.
Laughing really hard at suddenly remembering Charlie exists and pretending like you get some kind of Christmas powers from him.
Sandra is all-powerful. Good for her I guess.
I still love Befana. Like she's the only character I consistently enjoy watching
Elizabeth Mitchel is too good for this show and is acting much harder than she should with this garbage.
"We fixed EB he's good now but we didn't have the budget to bring back Tracy Morgan or he didn't want to be in the makeup again or something so we're just not gonna show him, but take our word he's fine!"
Why are they singing again and especially that song? Something about a child elf and the lyrics "I touch you once, I touch you twice" is unsettling to me.
Cal's gonna go to college... wouldn't he have to like, go to real school first and have transcripts and whatnot (I'm sure they'd magic it away or whatever). Also, he's not that bright so like, how's he gonna fair in higher education?
Everyone that goes on Kribble Krabble doesn't come back. I swear to god that's the plot of one of the few Hallmark xmas movies I've ever watched. But I guess that means Curtis isn't exploded. With the logic that they all Kribble and don't come back, I'm convinced that was actually Judy working in the bad xmas village which is just a sad development for her and really a downgrade from being at the Pole
So we basically end this season right where we started at the beginning of season 1. Like, Cal's not gonna be Santa and Scott's just gonna be Santa forever and never retire. Mad Santa is there now too I guess (also, there are werewolves in TSC canon... ok, sure). He's with Fluffy in the fake Santaville I guess, but whatevs
I forgot until I realized I took a picture of it, the line from Carol about leaving her job and her life behind and not complaining about it. Like on the one hand yes, please go off queen cause you deserve so much better. But also, you've kinda been complaining about it since the 3rd movie.
Oh right, Tim Allen got to mention Jesus one last time just to make sure it got in there. I literally had to turn on the closed caption cause I was like, did he just say "The King" and sure enough he did, capital K and everything. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS ALLEN!! Like pick silly fantasy Santa show or pick something religious. IDK it irks me so much
I feel like I had more to ramble about but I'm tired just from having to remember all of this from last night, lol. Just needed to get this junk outta my head. Honestly, very glad Jack wasn't in here to be slandered by this show. Same for the Millers. Same for Bernard again (besides in name and that dumb picture that still makes me mad) and Charlie again.

Digimon Adventure 02 (Blind Watch) - Episode 42
I loved this episode! Not only were there a lot of cute/funny moments, but the animation was nice and fluid too. This might have been my favorite of the 3 "World Tour" episodes. Unless they really screw the pooch in the next 8 episodes, I'm feeling optimistic about ending this season on a good note.
Notes:
-Chichos was so cute! She kind of looked like she could have come from the Lilo and Stitch anime haha. The Spanish wasn't too shabby, other than the wonky pronunciation. I was surprised they used a fancy word like "gusano" and Gotsumon even said "digievolucion" instead of digivolution which I thought was a nice touch. (Btw I'm pretty sure Chichos isn't a real name, but it's cute so I'll let it slide lol).
-Lol at the corrupt guard that got censored in the dub
Tumblr media
(I don't really blame them for cutting this out of the American version, it was kinda unnecessary).
-Not sure what the point of the Gennai copies having regional names is. Is it so they blend in or something? (Even though they all look...are they supposed to look white or Asian...idk)
-Wormmon getting all jealous for Ken's attention but then warming up to Chichos was really cute
-In addition to the animation being more fluid this episode, I also noticed that the characters were extra expressive too. Definitely enhances the experience.
-Gotsumon apologizing for his sassy owner to Wormmon was cute too, I think it's funny when a partner digimon is more mild mannered than their owner.
-The scene where the Russian digi-destined and Sora and Miyako kept just repeating their names due to the language barrier was hilarious. I think it's more interesting when characters have to get creative with bridging that divide rather than using some kind of sci-fi translation device or something. (Although, seeing Ken speaking Spanish was also a treat).
-I've never actually heard of piroshki, but I guess I just don't eat Russian cuisine that much. Looks like a Russian empanada basically. I don't blame Sora and Miyako for crying when they didn't get to eat. That's the best part of traveling!
-I liked that the girls visited the tundra, not just a major city. It makes sense that the "bad" digimon would end up in wild environments as well.
-The fact that they wrote a Christmas insert song is fun. Apparently there's a whole Digimon XMas album!?

I finished Loveless in a day (thanks to my youngest sister gifting it to me for Xmas, thank u) and, geez, it's just... So unbearably YA. And it's about ace/aro identity so there's the added "very special episode/PSA" vibe on top of it, which... Eesh, so not my thing. But also it's just unbelievably sincere in that way that YA is? Like.... It lacks that self awareness/cynicism that any other genre would put on it, just goes completely dead straight on being sincere and awkward and cringey.
So of course it's already getting to me, just in, like, basic-ass descriptions of "oh no am I broken????" BS that our main character is going through, which, whatever, is fine, I know she's gonna figure out she's ace/aro in ten chapters and realize she's fine and stuff.
But--okay so basically the plot is she's figuring this out and her old best friend and her new roommate are having this enemies-to-friends-to-lovers arc, while she's getting to be friends with the roommate. And predictably the takeaway is that "oh, well, it's okay not to have a partner, that just means you have to make your friendships as magical/meaningful as other people make things with their partners." And our ace/aro main character does this platonic marriage proposal to her old best friend to apologize after they have an argument (makes sense in context) and it's predictable but sweet and I'm thinking, alright, that's it, there's our emotional climax, good going.
But that's not it. Because the real emotional climax is that the NEW best friend/roommate shows up after almost getting together with the old best friend. And SHE gives the declaration of love to the ace/aro main character. Because at the end of the day she's going to get with the old best friend but the person who knows her best, her real "love story" of that year was with the main character etc etc it's all very sweet.
And somehow that just *completely* blindsided me. Because... I dunno. In my mind, I guess of course the conclusion of this was gonna be that our main character was going to be the one who had to... Do the work? Find satisfaction in the love of her friends and find joy in that and be happy when her friends inevitably get together and realize that she's still a part of that? I don't know. Having another character do a grand emotional gesture for HER and cementing that as The Love Story was just... Completely unexpected and also extremely YA and also... The most touching ending there could have been.

Personally, I hated season five as much as six. Mainly the New York arc. I don’t mind a bit of lovers’s quarrels but not every episode, please. Even ODNT faded them out, and Tested was just such a shitstorm. Plus it was obvious that some of the actors had checked out.
I can't hate season 5 with the same vigor as 4 or 6 because:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My overall feeling on that season could be summed up like:
Tumblr media
Sure - there were moments that pissed me off. The fact that they got back together in 5x01 and it took until 5x14 for them to be together all the time in the same place. That was a shit ton of wasted time where nothing really could move forward for them as a couple because they were still so far apart. That awful Xmas episode that never happened that didn't make sense in any timeline and still holds the record for "program I've deleted off my DVR the fastest."  The fact that we got maybe 5 minutes of shiny happy domestic Klaine in 5x14 and that was basically it for the NYC arc.  The entirety of “Bash” where Kurt’s storyline somehow ended up as like the C plot behind more Rachel bullshit and Sam/Mercedes nonsense and he and Blaine never have one god damned conversation after he wakes up.  The weirdness of “Tested.”  Constantly pitting them against each other because that seemed to be the only content available. It was like they tried to come up with new garbage every week to keep them deliberately off kilter and out of sync.  A harbinger of things to come in season 6 but at that point, even I didn’t think they’d actually be dumb enough to break them up again.
I’m not sure I’d say they were checked out by the end of season 5.  This was remember the season after Cory passed so that had to weigh heavily on everything they did, especially with scenes in the choir room where they could look around and literally see where he used to be.  I’m sure they were all grateful when the season ended, they could get some distance, and take a breather from the insanity of the show’s schedule.  Plus - how much fun is it for every single character to play back up to Rachel?  It was like a near endless loop with her and if I thought that shit was old, imagine having to deal with LM and knowing that whatever your character does, it will somehow end up back around with her?  Hard pass and that’s one of the things that made the NYC arc so hard to swallow for me.

I decided to open up Netflix the other day and watch the Sandman adaptation. It's as good as everyone has been saying it is! And episode 5 has some gross bits that you'll see coming if you're paying attention (also, the nice black lady and her dog don't die, if you're worried about that). The Corinthian is EVEN CREEPIER in live action.
I spent a lot of time thinking "God, that actor looks and sounds familiar" whenever the Corinthian was on screen, but I looked him up and he wasn't in anything else I've seen, so I guess he's just got That Kind Of Face (or at least lower half of it, since he's got dark glasses on 95% of the time.)
While I was on Netflix, they showed me recommendations, as algorithms do, and I browsed the anime selection to see if there was anything to add to my (extremely long) watchlist.
I decided to watch Tekken: Bloodline, because deep in my heart of hearts, I love 2D fighting games. Not at all because I've been a JinHwo shipper since the early 2000s, nope. Anyway, it's a Netflix original, originally voiced in English. The voice acting ranges from fine (Jin, Hwoarang, Nina, Paul) to cringe (Jun, Xiaoyu) to comical (Heihachi), and for some completely unknown reason, Heihachi's assistant uses weeb-Japanese and says "hai" when she could say "yes, sir." (Like, this is the ONLY Japanese in the show. I'm not counting uses of sensei, because that's been borrowed into English as a martial arts term, or the time Paul says "Mishima Zaibatsu," because that's been in the US versions of the game since forever.)
Is it any good? It's not bad... It's basically the plot of Tekken 3, with references to 1&2, with Jin finding out about his family and Heihachi being a total asshole (I mean, duh). The character designs are weird, like their faces are too small for their necks and chins are too pointy, and somehow Jin looks like Heero Yuy in profile. I laughed a couple times (Paul (or maybe Nina): You two are friends? Jin & Hwoarang (unison): NO!) and may be on the way to shipping Jin/Hwo/Xiaoyu because they're ADORABLE.
When I got my new computer for Xmas, it came with a free 3-month trial of Apple TV. I didn't do anything about it until they sent me an email that it would go away if I didn't use it, then I signed up. There's actually a good bit of good stuff on there, so I'm keeping it for 4.99 a month.
Severance: suuuuper creepy SF mystery/thriller? where people can sign up to get implants that sever their work lives from their home lives so they can work on something so secret, even their work-selves don't know what it is. Season 1 ends with a massive cliffhanger that was extremely brave, because S2 hadn't been confirmed yet. (It is now.) It stars the guy from Parks & Rec and guest stars Christopher Walken.
The Essex Serpent: based on a book, apparently. Tom Hiddleston plays a vicar who lives out in the wilds in the 1880s or so; Claire Danes is a recently widowed paleontologist. Hiddles is utterly charming, as always; Danes is a bit flat, as always (I've always liked her, but she has about 2 expressions: confused and sad). There's a doctor who wants to date her, and her BFF/maid ALSO wants to date her, but she's only got eyes for the vicar (who's married, of course). Anyway, she hears rumors of a sea monster in the river and goes to investigate it, which is where she meets the vicar and so on. You can tell it's going to be a romance, but that part is somehow not compelling.
For All Mankind: space race AU where the Soviet Union gets to the moon first and NASA has to catch up. A lot of the real-world timeline is changed in ways that are good (space shuttles! moon base!) and bad (USSR doesn't collapse). In season 3, there is an extremely honest depiction of Gay Life in the 90s and of the within-group politics of assimilation or not. I lived through it (before I knew I was queer, or admitted it anyway), and it still punched me in the gut. We've made so much progress in the last 30 years that it's easy to forget just how terrible it was back then and that Don't Ask Don't Tell was the progressive compromise. It made me think about all the puriteens here on tunglr dot com and the stupid discourse about ~flawed media~ and ~problematique~ stuff. They should watch it and maybe fucking learn some history.
The end of season 3 is dfjhadkjghk;djkhgojwhjdfxhvjh basically and season 4 can't come soon enough.

I have a very specific request, and I'm sure someone here can point me in the direction of acquiring this. (These, I guess; there are two specific fannish things I've wanted for a while.)
The litany against fear, in its entirety, in calligraphy or similar. Not twee. (I'm not actually into Dune, but having basically cognitive behavioral therapy on my wall might help me with my stupid anxiety.)
The Discworld DEATH bit "to be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape", with or without the rest of the speech. (It's a long speech and would make the piece too busy.) Not twee. Potentially illustrated with silhouettes in the background behind the text.
I have no artistic ability nor any skill at graphic design, and I lack the patience for calligraphy. Thinking about embroidery or cross-stitch makes my fingers hurt. (My mom was an avid cross-stitcher and taught me when I was a kid. I could never hold the needle properly.)
Type of item: poster up to A2 size
Price: up to around 20 € each

I can't be the only person who wants directors or whoever makes these decisions let Oscar Isaac have his gorgeous salt and pepper hair. A grown-ass man, silver at the temples, charming smile. Please?
Also I saw a comment about Dune that said they "aged him up" to play Duke Leto, and it took everything I had in me not to comment "oh, you mean they didn't make him dye his hair?"

Been playing Disco Elysium and I tried on some new pants.

YOU - I like regular, normal things.
VOLITION - Mhm, I know you do. These interisolary pants are like wearing a perfect *compromise* in your nether regions. No one will call the Moralintern on you like this, that's for sure.
You're a little more moralist now, buddy. A little more *normal*. Even if you didn't want to be.
COMPOSURE [Medium: Success] - Makes sense. This is what wearing boring office trousers does to you.

ooh maybe any (or all 👀) of the black friday trilogy episodes??
BLACK FRIDAY.. MY FAVOURITE TRILOGY!!!
i will do all of them <3
★ Do I like this episode? Why or why not?
overall i love this trilogy and each episode!! very fond of the game of thrones/lord of the rings games the kids play over superheroes but. yea. i love all the episodes equally i think
★ Favorite moment?
black friday: either the stop touching me elmo doll commercial (tbqh that might have been the first clip of south park ive ever seen while also being aware of south park? if that makes sense?) or when they show the kids happily playing in the backyard before the chaos
a song of ass and fire: tbh kind of a slower episode BUT. when george r r martin is explaining thats going to happen in game of thrones and scott is about to pass out. so real. also a little moment but when the news reporter fucks the japanese guy LMAO? why did he do that??
titties and dragons: i think these scenes are back to back? but anyway when they show the actual black friday footage of people fighting for stuff and then the kids going up to gamestop to get their consoles through the carnage as the charlie brown xmas music is playing. classic
★ Least favorite moment?
i dont think i have any to be honest!! im not usually a randy enjoyer but even i enjoyed his plotline for this trilogy
★ Do I have an unpopular opinion about this episode? What is it?
its better than the superhero/coon and friends trilogy, tbh as i write this it might be the best out of all of them. idk if its unpopular but yeah <3
★ Something I would change?
so small BUT. since this trilogy was basically an ad for TSoT, i wish they had kyle in his red costume from the game instead of the trench coat thing. HES STILL CUTE THOUGH….
★ Rating out of 5?
black friday/titties and dragons- 5/5. perfect
a song of ass and fire- 4.5. felt filler-y and slower
★ Anything else I want to say about this episode?
as someone from a country that does not do black friday (at least not to the same levels as americans do/did) this episode is so funny because yeah actually thats how i see americans on black friday even if its not as big anymore? especially when i first moved here so. yeah

I couldn’t find a post on this so apologies if I missed it! What are your favourite tv show Xmas episodes?
Moroccan Christmas, The Office
Tumblr media
Christmas Party, The Office
Tumblr media
Noel, The West Wing
I generally scoff at sentimentality and the sentimentality of The West Wing is complicated for me but whenever I think of Christmas episodes, I think of this one. Josh had just been shot and he was suffering PTSD and he didn't know it and it came to a head during Christmas and he wants to resign when he realizes his mental state because he thinks it'll look bad for the white house and the chief of staff is basically like we're all here to support you
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Best Chrismukkah Ever, The O.C.
Tumblr media
Let’s Stay Together, Living Single
It’s the final episode of the series and Kyle and Maxine get back together
Tumblr media
The Best Christmas Ever, That 70s Show
Tumblr media
Carol of the Bells, Ted Lasso
Tumblr media
Final Grades, The Wire
It’s not, by any means, happy, but it was the finale to a brilliant season of television.

Yes
I forgot other people also like this show I bring up at random moments
It’s got episodes on literally every subject so I find myself making connections to it very often lmao
Idk if the writers ran out of ideas or anything (yes) but who makes episodes about zombies and vampires in the early 20th century (and try to justify it within the time period) unless you've exhausted every other avenue-
(The zombies: a guy had been testing lobotomies on prisoners and marketing it as a solution to society (basically eugenics aka not good (like human rights violations not good)))
(The vampire: a guy was,, basically grooming schoolgirls? And making them give blood to his son who had [a blood illness] (it’s been a while I don’t remember the specifics))
I swear I might make a list of all the random subjects they chose for each episode (golfing, stamp collectors, cricket, football (soccer), the first planes, underwater trains, early electricity, and nuns, to name a few- also that Christmas special that was,,, smth lmao- (themes: the magic of Xmas or smth and also a mythical creature Bigfoot situation lmao- plus that one scene at the end where the evil capitalist man sees children asking him to be generous and suddenly decides that, - even though for the whole movie this hasn’t touched him in any way and without any character development shown that would explain such a change, - he wants to actually be nice to the kids and ✨restores the magic of Christmas✨ or something)
Lmao it’s something
It’s kind of bad but I say this affectionately
(Also if you think im wrong about any of this I would be curious to know why so feel free to disagree and to tell me so 👍 + it’s been a while since I’ve watched the episodes I’m mentioning so I could be remembering things wrong- if I’ve misconstrued stuff, also feel free to tell me 👍👍)
(I wrote a rly long text post then my phone died. Just learned drafts are a thing (my noob is showing) but I didn’t make one so I’m retyping what I remember T-T)
TL;DR: Murdoch Mysteries whack
Ok bye now thanks for reading hope you had/are having a nice day :P

I actually thought that Moffat’s Xmas specials were better than the ones that came before them. I mean RTD really did like this idea of 10 having to stop an alien threat to London every single Xmas. And Moffat’s first special was wildly different from that formula with “A Christmas Carol” - though “The Doctor, Widow, and the Wardrobe” was a clunker, and “Time of the Doctor” should’ve been a 2 parter. But all of the 12th Doctor Xmas specials are my faves bc they’re so wildly different from each other - and one of them actually features Santa. And each of them are excellent
OK, so the thing of RTD's habit of Aliens invading London every Christmas... it was annoying but in a way I'll forgive it because it gave us an excuse to have Wilf, who then got written into the show full time. I will trade the goofiness of endless London invasions for the gem that was Wilf. He was worth it. But as for the episodes themselves, A Christmas Carol was a brilliant idea. Loved that. Everything about that episode was a breath of fresh air. Probably my all time favorite Christmas Special I've watched it so many times AND I made a music video about it. But the 12th doctor specials were some of my favorites. Doctor Mysterio wasn't the best episode overall but some of the elements were so friggin brilliant that I couldn't help but love it. The "Mr. Huffle Feels Pain" thing like, I don't know HOW that worked so well but I would have folded like tissue paper for Mr. Huffle too. And the idea that the whole plot is because the kid ate the stones, NO REALLY KID I FEEL THAT SO MUCH. Twice Upon a Time made me feel SO MUCH. I didn't realize how much I needed to see the 1st Doctor again until that episode and any excuse to put Mark Gatiss on my screen makes me happy. The Husbands of River Song? MY HEART. OMG I CRIED LIKE A CHILD WITH THE DOCTOR ON THAT ONE. Seriously, I thought knowing how River's story would end would soften the blow. NOOOOPE PAIN CITY. Just, epic. And so emotional. And Last Christmas? You'd never think that would have worked but it did and OMG I'M GLAD IT DID. Somehow fun as hell AND terrifying as hell, all at the same time, and the fact that it gave us just enough closure to Danny's storyline that we could move on? Perfect. Just PERFECT. Basically, I 100% agree with you. I personally think Moffat gets a bad wrap and people think of him as worse than he really was. Did he have some stinkers? SURE he did. But so did RTD. Fear Her and The Idiot's Lantern, anyone? Meanwhile, Moffat gave us all of Season five, the lifechanging 11th Doctor monologue from The Rings of Akhaten, plus he gave us probably the most poignant moment in all of Doctor Who history, the scene with Vincent in the museum. I don't think anything Doctor Who did before that has touched me as deeply as that (Being a person with severe mental illness) and I double anything will ever again.

so, i've started working on an opinion piece that'll be a ranking, review and rating of Futurama season 8- Hulurama as i like to call it. i'll be looking at the episodes individually, offering an updated, individual review of each episode (more streamlined and edited than my initial reviews), as well as my thoughts on the season as a whole. for example, i really appreciated how this season wasn't as mean-spirited or boring as the Comedy Central season felt a lot of the time (episodes like the Butterjunk Effect and Naturama are why i've only actively watched through those seasons once, but honestly i think i'll end up rewatching some of these episodes while i write my review so i don't just talk out of my ass about episodes i only vaguely remember).
the piece is very much going to be my own opinion, and the ranking will be based on which episodes i liked better as opposed to being based on objective quality.
i'll likely go and read through other people's thoughts (here on Tumblr) on the episodes, but i'd also appreciate if people could send me their thoughts on the season as a whole as well as possibly some thoughts on individual episodes. i have an overall very positive opinion of the season and i think most of the episodes are solid, with only a few that, before i've rewatched them, i think are not very good.
without spoiling how i'm likely going to rank the episodes, i'll say roughly what my thoughts are of each episode (so far i've only rewatched Impossible Stream, so these thoughts are obviously subject to change)
bad (0-3/10)- Prince and the Product (this is probably one of my least favourite Futurama episodes hands-down, in part because anthology episodes are the bane of my existence. it's the reason i haven't managed to get myself to watch most of the Treehouse of Horror episodes yet.)
not-good-to-average (4-5/10) - Rage Against the Vaccine (only kind of liked the Hermes subplot and that was it)
okay (5.5-6.5/10) - Parasites Regained (even if you take it out of the shadow of Parasites Lost, it's still a mid episode that has only a decent emotional hook)
solid-to-good (7-7.5/10) - How the West Was 1010001 (it was a fun cowboy adventure, what can i say?), Related to Items You've Viewed (Freeler story so of course I enjoyed it + the Momazon stuff was solid), Zapp Gets Cancelled (good Leela episode, decent Zapp episode, thank God they didn't do a social media episode)
great (8-9/10) - The Impossible Stream (funny episode with decent plot + good continuation from Meanwhile), Children of a Lesser Bog (so emotionally resonant and probably the best Amy episode), I Know What You Did Next Xmas (really sweet and funny), All the Way Down (really interesting + oh god the ending gives me chills + just thinking about it makes me want to cry)
so, i'd like to know if you have any strong opinions on how i've rated the episodes. do you agree? do you disagree? do you have any strong opinions on this season in general? basically, if you have any thoughts you'd care to offer, i'd really appreciate you either commenting, reblogging, messaging me or sending an ask. i really want a diverse range of opinions so i can consider different perspectives when looking at these episodes.
ALSO, i'd really appreciate if people could suggest Comedy Central episodes for me to revisit, namely episodes that are bad, offensively mid, or, in your opinion, underrated/overlooked (i.e. good episodes that aren't the Late Philip J. Fry, Game of Tones, Meanwhile, etc.). i plan on revisiting as much of the Comedy Central episodes as i can bear, but any specific episodes that stand out to you (or, stand out so little that it's infuriating) let me know and i'll make a note to watch them.
