#and just left Boscha at the background

When people compare Catra to Amity, I just had the thought of “Yeah! Remember how smug and satisfied with herself Amity was when she accidentally fucked with Willow’s mind and memories in Understanding Willow and then she chuckled to herself about covering up/saving face in front of Boscha and left Luz, King, Gus, and Eda to clean up the mess she made?”.
I'll admit that one thing about Amity's arc bothers me, and that's the way they make Amity more complicit in the bullying against Willow. Like, Inner Willow says that Amity "let" her friends pick on Willow for years, and not the fact AMITY was Willow's main bully. It's true that at this point in the story, she wasn't actively going after Willow anymore. But yeah, I don't like the way they worded it. That's a minor issue that I thought was relevant.
THAT BEING SAID.
Amity is obviously way better handled than Catra. Amity never meant to burn all of Willow's memories, and she clearly showed regret once it was done. I also like that the other characters openly point out how messed up it was, too, regardless of Amity's intentions. She might try to avoid going inside Willow's mind at first, but it's more out of guilt, not pride, and not her trying to push the responsibility to Luz.
And I think the best thing about Understanding Willow is that even after we discover Amity's abusive background, it's still not an excuse and Amity actually admits the errors of her ways. "You were never too weak to be my friend. I was too weak to be yours." Better yet, Amity and Willow don't immediately become friends again. "It's a start."
That never happens to Catra. For starters, Catra never apologizes to Glimmer of all people (they straight up don't bring up Angella, only at the last minute and it was so Glimmer could save Micah). Catra doesn't save Glimmer out of genuine care, it's simply for Adora's sake. While Amity grew as a person because of Luz, Amity shows real remorse for her actions. Amity and Willow have their proper reconciliation without Luz in the picture, for that matter.
And yet Glimmer is already defending Catra when Adora vents to her about how shitty Catra is. Like? Seriously? GLIMMER? Glimmer was always the person who called out Catra. If anything, Glimmer is the most brutally honest character here. I'm appalled that they made her say "oh lol did you expect Catra to be a completely different person?". Nah, the real Glimmer would agree with Adora. I don't care what season 5 and the stans tell me.
Yeah, that's the problem. Adora reasonably gets angry with Catra but she's seen as... you guessed it! Stupid! Naive! God, I'm tired.
... I feel like I went off tangent here. But to sum up: Amity is nothing like Catra and I'm tired of everyone pretending they're alike.

Post-Hoot for Edge of the World AND Labyrinth Runners!
-According to Bosook Coburn (face and namesake for Bo), they were sitting on the fact of King being a Titan “for so long” and noticed how people predicted it really early too, and they were just like “…Well COOL, sure… We’re just gonna let that lie… We’re gonna- We will confirm that eventually.” Not to brag, but I was one of those people who guessed it from the very beginning, one of the first...!
-As director of the episode, it was “interesting” because they were still figuring out a lot of the lore (I presume Bo means the animators, not the writers), so there was a lot of working with new material as they were given it. They got to design the Titan Trapper island, the general setting; Bo noted that with this episode and Hollow Mind before, they were getting into “darker territory” and thus needed to “handle it as delicately as possible”. Bo boarded the scene where King hugs Luz’s leg at the end; As she explains, “When moments like that happen, it’s such a rare thing in animation because we have so much that we’re trying to fit in, that it’s hard to get a quiet moment like that, so when you do you just want to milk it, take it for all its worth.”
-King Pecora worked on the parts where they met Tarak, entered the town and saw the different Titan Trappers, as well as the ritual with the Collector.
-Bo thinks they left this episode like over a YEAR ago (This Post-Hoot was released just before O Titan, Where Art Thou).
-Bo met Dana while working on Tangled.
-Rebecca did confirm here that they ARE on King’s dad, the Boiling Isles is his father, without a doubt.
-Luz Batista (AKA Luz Noceda’s real-world namesake and inspiration) had her first writing credit for Labyrinth Runners. She came onto TOH as a storyboard revisionist, she was a story consultant from the very beginning because of “cultural stuff” and using “references”, just input and background. From there she got to sit in the writer’s room once or twice and was nervous because she was being perceived. She eventually became a story artist and was asked to help write an episode, hence LR.
-Luz (Batista) met Dana at school, they both used to work in “the animation cage”, they would talk about what real life was like, how to prepare themselves for it. Dana would talk to students from other schools, so they can figure out what they’re learning and how this prepares them, only to realize nobody has a goddamn clue.
-Luz Batista was “not gonna say” if the Sailor Moon pose between Amity and Willow was her idea; She legitimately couldn’t remember. According to her, their work on Labyrinth Runners was in November and December of 2020.
-Cissy admits that her superpower is forgetting sessions, because she didn’t remember doing the scene where Lilith kicks the door in and says she came as soon as she heard (in Edge of the World). Similarly, Sarah has issues remembering quotes, and Bo recalls how Dana early on would sometimes ask her if she remembered a thing that would happen; Bo would give a confused no to Dana’s surprise, given it was from Bo’s episode.
-Bo explained that the glowing eyes of Willow and Gus are an “emotional response”, heightened by their emotions. As Luz Batista puts it, “You see how he deals with his anxiety, how in that moment fear, all these projections come out and he’s still not grounded yet, until later when Hunter finally grounds him down.” As someone mercilessly picked on in high school, Cissy identified with Gus’ moments so bigly.
-Bo thinks Alex Hirsch came up with “WEH” for King, “it became something that was so deeply ingrained in King’s character, like we would just add it in wherever we could, in boards, and in the script, and all that stuff,” and that just led to them deciding it was a Titan trait.
-Cissy admitted she found Bump with his hair out “hot” and Sarah agreed “He was kind of a baddie”, Luz Batista concurred “You gotta love a good adult.”
-Luz Batista confirmed Boscha wasn’t present because of animation budget, “Not everyone can be on-screen sometimes”. As she continues, “I feel like we’ve had a lot of time with Boscha before, where, it was time to kind of show where- how the other characters interplay with each other and, uh, how she also doesn’t have to dominate a moment.” Sarah adds, “No one needed her negative energy,” which Luz confirms. Cissy does reiterate that it’s really expensive to animate a face, with its blinking eyes and mouth. Bo does love Boscha, her VA Eden Riegel is so funny and sweet, which makes it so surreal to see such meanness come out of her, but that’s also part of the fun for Bo and Sarah too.
-Sarah liked that Willow “owned it,” “she knew she was a badass”. Gus “really sees her”. As Luz Batista explains, “That was something we kept in mind, when writing this episode, how Gus fits into everything, and how he feels, and what his world is like, and it was nice to kind of explore that with him, I really enjoyed Gus.” Sarah agreed, she wanted to know so much more about his illusions and needed that episode. Illusions and Oracle are Luz Batista’s favorite tracks.
-When discussing how it’s difficult to remember and keep track of so many different storylines, Luz ALMOST mentioned a spoiler, but Sarah stopped her in time.
-Luz said she can’t answer if Gus can see the memories of people he casts under his spell; But with Graye’s mirror… (Note: I feel this is relevant with S3 impending and Hunter’s anxiety over being a Grimwalker, when we saw the episode prior how Gus inflicted Belos’ memories on him and possibly got a glimpse of the creation process.)
-Rebecca confirmed, alas, that the Illusion Coven Teacher doesn’t have a name.
-If they had to pick a track; For King Pecora it was beast-keeping, because he likes spiders, and has a spider tattoo on his neck. He has pet tarantulas, Sarah has a sister-in-law who’s also fond of them; This fact has made Sarah rethink her “Everything but beastkeeping” stance. Bo would have a mix between the Plant and Healing covens. She comes from a family of doctors, which is why the character named after her is in the Healing Track. As Bo says “We got to pick our own incidentals’ tracks.” Cissy reiterates “most of the members of the crew have a character that is kind of loosely based on them in the show,” and Bo added “Especially like the people who worked on Season 1, just because that’s when we were in the very beginning of making all these incidental characters.” She said we’ll see more crew incidentals in the future!!!
-Rebecca would go for beastkeeping because animals and creatures are cool, as well as abominations because of what Amity and Darius have recently done. She also considered Oracle, “it’s like ghosts and stuff”.
-Sarah would be a wild witch, she doesn’t have the discipline to choose.
-Luz Batista reiterated her choice of Illusion and Oracle, and would totally go to school first and THEN break away.
-Bo said they’re not allowed to explain how long it takes for a Titan to grow. She also said that they had to fight to keep the scene revealing that King’s siblings had been murdered, as Disney found it too dark. Sarah retorted that she saw the new Doctor Strange that day and doesn’t want to hear anything from Disney, bewildered that “they came for US?!” Bo confirmed that yes, all those skulls belonged to Titan BABIES, the implications of a lot of these episodes are ‘kinda’ dark.
-When asked why the Collector is called the Grand Huntsman by the Titan Trappers, Bo replied “Yeah I think that’s mostly having to do with their lore and how the Collector presented themselves to them, but y’know- A lot of it has to do with Bill, and Bill, y’know…”
-Luz doesn’t want to know Eberwolf’s age and prefers to think of them as some ageless creature. Everyone at the Post-Hoot didn’t know Eberwolf’s pronouns (but we are told by Dana in another Post-Hoot).
-Bo boarded the scene where the EC surrounded the Owl House. She wouldn’t answer if King had a mother. She was on for the entire run of the show, from the first episode to the end of Season 3; Bo started working in 2017, the year before TOH was first announced. According to Bo, it took over four years to make the show. Cissy’s first audition was in 2018, and she only got called back the next year.
-King (Pecora)’s favorite thing that he personally boarded –that he could remember- was the baby King bits; It was one of his first episodes of the show, King boarded the flashback of when Eda found King. He looks really fondly back at the Raine and Eda fight too, as he doesn’t do action really often well; King really likes Raine and Eda. In general, his second-favorite moment of the show was the stuff in Hollow Mind; His favorite overall is in Season 3.
-Bo tends to board a lot of the emotions, one of her favorite scenes she boarded was the scene between Luz and Amity under the Grom tree, when they talk about Luz’s dad; It was a really personal thing they wanted to add in, so Bo was trying to do it justice. She also loved Ben’s boards for the Reaching Out fight montage (Bo explained they don’t know the titles of episodes, just production codes). She let Ben do his thing, and he did what he did best.
-Rebecca’s favorite moments are from Season 3; Bo mentioned their answers would likely be very different if they could mention S3, it was very fresh in their minds according to Sarah. That said, one of her favorite moments was when Luz, Eda, and King are looking at the Boiling Isles as a whole in Episode 2, and Eda explains to Luz how she needs to take her chance to be a chosen one by making it for herself. Bo noted the lesson was a core theme of the show. Rebecca also liked Luz and Amity’s moment in Covention where Luz reveals her light glyph; Bo boarded the cheek kiss from Through the Looking Glass Ruins, and in response to Rebecca’s confirmation of this, changed her answer to include that moment.
-Luz (Batista) confirmed that “Batata” (sweet potato) was not her idea; In fact, she didn’t know what batata was, because she’d never asked for sweet potatoes in Spanish before. Sarah also didn’t recognize the word. Luz Batista also has favorite moments from S3.
-Rebecca liked Hollow Mind, liked how the Grom tree went full circle in Reaching Out.
-Sarah liked the flashbacks and soft Eda moments of Eda’s Requiem, such as when King announced his Clawthorne adoption. She loved all of Vee’s stuff and her scenes of being out in the world and making friends. Sarah loved the “not-literal” reflection idea, Luz hyping up the human world as the worst, only for Vee to be so happy. She also liked when Camila asked if Luz’s life was so bad here, as it “exposed so many flaws”. Bo boarded that ending scene; Sarah “secretly, selfishly” loves it because it was so sad. She was very excited for Yesterday’s Lie when reading it.
-Bo said Yesterday’s Lie was the first episode they did in quarantine
-Bo said she feels Camila gets a bad rep, she loves Camila so much. “It is one of those things of like yeah we’re mostly following Eda and a few adults, but we really are in the perspective of these young adolescents, so then kind of getting the outside view of like, ‘Oh, how would an adult in our realm actually react to this’, and it was difficult. This prompted Cissy to mention the scene where Eda breaks down in Edge of the World over how Luz and King are just children; Dawn boarded that scene. As Cissy describes it, Eda looked at Lilith and looked so much like a child and she reacted “Oh, baby!”; Bo notes that Eda “IS the younger sister, she’s looking to her older sister for some comfort.”
-Luz Batista’s favorite moment of working on the show was Labyrinth Runners, it’s the happiest moment of her career so far; Boarding AND writing for an episode. She loved seeing the soft side of Hunter. Sarah praised the episode, “I liked seeing them all outside of Luz’s perspective right, because like there’s that sidekick vibe that you can be like ‘What are they really all like’, and I just feel like, we just get such round, like full characters out of all of them, and we just got so much more out of Gus especially, because he’s been Old Faithful, he’s always been there,” Cissy added “there with a joke and like, the Good Old Boi, and to have him really bare his soul was just gorgeous.”
-Bo: “I think genuinely Gus is the person who understands each of them the most”, Luz: “He’s emotionally very present, and keeping up with everyone and noticing, and aware”. Luz Batista wanted to see people talk about their feelings, she makes her friends do it all the time.
-Sarah: “That’s my mark of a true friend, if we can fight about it. Because if we can’t fight, we don’t care enough, if we can really fight –and not like a nasty way, right, I mean sometimes fights get ugly-  but like yeah, if you can say ‘What was THAT’ like y’know”
-Bo: “Like you care enough to communicate, because like if you didn’t care you would just like, let it go”
-Sarah: “You have to be able to fight and be like ‘Oh you know what, I’m sorry actually’, when [Hunter] said that ‘I was horrible and I shouldn’t have done that’ it was really beautiful.”
-Sarah said god bless Hunter for finding the wherewithal to be a good friend, because he’s had NO modeling for that, no good relationships for that. Luz Batista added how it was without Luz’s help at the moment as well, “Luz is such a catalyst for everyone to change, where, these people all existed before she got there, you know and, they got around, they made friends, so this is nice that he’s able to find a community to kind of feel safe in.” Sarah liked to see Hunter get his strength back for a moment when he called out Severine as a fake Willow.
-Luz Batista boarded the bit where Hunter and Gus just sit down and talk, the intro of Labyrinth Runners, “Aah my head”, and the counting scene (Batista has to do the counting herself at times).
-Batista discussed how it was an important skill to learn to open up about feelings, not everyone has a Gus around the corner; A lot of people are like Amity with repressed feelings, Bo adds. Sarah quoted Shrek’s onion quote when mentioning how she thinks that a lot of people don’t really know that they’re repressing; A friend can help people realize those feelings.
-Luz Batista is working on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur!
-This fact is self-indulgent for me, but on the day of this Post-Hoot the Evil Dead game came out, which is a dream come true for Cissy; Army of Darkness is one of her favorite movies, so to be a part of that game and universe is heaven for her.

Thank God! Literally!
And while we’re at it, how about you banish that evil spirit from Raine’s body while you’re at it, Collector? I know you usually call a priest for exorcisms, but if you’ve already got a god on hand… might as well cut out the middleman.
Tumblr media
Wow! Philip’s really out here, pulling the old ”the power of love and friendship” card, huh? I love how he hesitates, which is probably because he’s panicking, but I like to think it’s because he’s trying to figure out what Luz or another similar hero would say. Or maybe he just thinks Raine would actually talk this way.
Heck, it even sounds like the background music gets thrown for a loop when Philip says ”kindness,” like even the score can’t believe that’s the lie he resorted to.
Also, this ”danger” to The Collector he speaks of? I’m gonna go ahead and guess it’s something like ”Your best friend King is actually plotting to destroy you/imprison you again!” or something like that.
And as much as it pains me to say the phrase ”to be fair” when it comes to Philip, an actual witch hunter, tyrant, and serial killer, but… to be fair; Lilith did say that they would find some way to defeat The Collector, and King was in on it. So yeah.
Tumblr media
We cut back Hexside, where Kikimora has thrown (some of) our heroes into the detention pit, and confirms that she intends to build her own empire, with the help of Boscha. Luz calls her out on doing pretty much the same thing Belos was doing, because Kiki is like me: a talentless hack with no original ideas.
Anyway, not Camila calling Kikimora a ”little red kitten” skull emoji. I’d’ve sooner compared her to a gnome, or I dunno… some kind of small, hairless mammal, like a naked mole rat or something.
Actually, speaking of gnomes, did you know that Kikimora actually gets her name from Slavic mythology? O-oh, you did? Everyone knows that? okay…
(hm… a detention pit… so that’s kinda like a pit where you put failures… like the pit at the bottom of the skull where Philip discarded the grimwalkers… there’s even a bunch of skeletons left in the detention pit! wow, Luz is right, Kiki really is just copying Belos, huh?)
Tumblr media
It’s good to see that when all else fails, Camila does not hesitate to resort to that ever classic human strategy of ”throw stick” to incapacitate her enemies.
It’s even gooder to see Kikimora get decked in the face with a baseball bat.
I do appreciate the detail of Camila trying to draw an ice glyph, only to fail miserably, because of course she would. Let’s forget the fact that all her training took place in the Human Realm, where there was no magic and thus she couldn’t get a feel for how the glyphs actually work (it’s easier to learn things when you can see the results, after all), this is a high-stress situation, of course she’s not gonna get it right right away. Still, Mrs. Noceda is a tough lady, she’s ready to throw hands… or bats.
Tumblr media
I vaguely recall making a joke about Amity and Boscha dating a good while back. That was just meant as a brief throw-away gag,  but ah… here we have Boscha, on her knees, begging for Amity to come back. Accidental prophecy! Which is the worst, but also the funniest kind of prophecy.

for the future spoiler rant
overall a pretty good episode I’m just disappointed how Hunter and Willow got their character arcs halted in their tracks at the end there. They didn’t explore Hunter’s anger over what Belos did to him at ALL he just stood in the background brooding up until it was Designated Heterosexual Pairing Time. It’s super disappointing because even if I don’t ship Huntlow, there was definitely potential there but instead they went with the most generic set of circumstances possible.
Because he came in so late, Hunter has never been able to super meaningfully connect with any of the main cast except for Luz and that was super apparent here. I accept his dynamic with Luz, I mostly accept his dynamic with Gus, but there’s nothing in his relationship with Willow that would meaningfully separate it from his other friendships.
I can forgive it mostly bc the stuff with Luz and Camila, Amity and Boscha, Belos and the Collector, and King, Eda, and Lilith was all so good but. The shortened episode count is definitely making itself known and I think they’re honestly trying to shove in too much considering what they have to work with. Huntlow should have been left on the cutting room floor, they barely have enough screen time together to be believable as friends, let alone as partners, and I honestly feel bad for the Huntlows going nuts as if this is any way good food.
At least as a Huntric enjoyer I knew what I was getting into; Huntlow shippers are seeing things not present in the show.

Pacing around cause I'm having the exact same feeling that I got with thanks to them which is that I love the episode but it doesn't quite feel complete.
I think I've seen people say it's poorly paced which I don't think is true! This episode knows what it's about and only accomplishes what it sets out to. It is very clearly about emotional arcs and those are the things that end up resolved. everything else is just doing the legwork of setting up elements for the finale (getting people all in the one place, giving characters motivations and plots, etc).
It's all that background set up that goes unresolved because it's not for this episode, it's for the next, the same way something like Flapjack's sacrifice and Belos' plan was at the end of TTT.
I genuinely love FTF so much, it has some of my favorite character work in the series. Willow and Luz stealing the show, Amity and Gus getting little moments, Hunter once again being a vehicle for the writers to do a heartbreaking portrayal of grief, just like they did in TTT w/ Luz and Camilla.
They finally got me to like Boscha, they took the time to finally justify what makes kikimora so much worse than all the other emperor's coven lackies that we've met (something I always thought was lacking), they gave someone like mattholomule presence and development.
They put their blood, sweat and tears into the characters this episode, so that they can cover all the plot ground they need to next ep with minimal baggage.
again...it's just that understanding of knowing that none of these episodes are complete without the other, where they'll form into a 90 minute TV movie that does it's best to tell the story with the time it has left. Everything I wanted them to dwell on was something that couldn't have been included without taking something else away.
And sometimes the understatement works! Gus and Willow don't have a dramatic talk with Hunter about him being a grimwalker cause...they don't care. Respectfully. No matter what he is, they love who he is. Same with Eda and King missing Luz. They don't need to say it. It's felt very clearly.
I think I also just struggled to identify the theme at first, which always gets my jorts in a twist. Then, after a bit of looking around at other people's takes and opening my mind passed my preconceived wants and biases, I realized the theme (I think)
This episode is about adults making mistakes, kids being put in positions of "power", as they either try to fix things or end up replicating the broken dynamics set up by the adults.
(under a read more cause this started as a review-ish and then it got LONG bc. I just really love the themes of this show)
It's in the little things.
How no adults except Eda and Lilith (by king's leverage) survived puppet-ification whereas all the kids did. How those kids survived because the adults sacrificed themselves and gave them an inadvertent head start.
(not a huge predictions guy but I have a feeling that if Luz and Co end up needing to actually play the collectors new game, it's gonna be the kids who understand it intuitively, especially Luz)
How the kids tried to create a functioning society but ended up replicating the dynamic of their previous dictatorial society, right down to a scared and semi-vindictive child being manipulated by a less powerful person for their own gain. Boschas arguably meaner than the collector (when you take intention into account) and kikimora is much more pathetic than Belos but that's still the general dynamic going on.
How the episode ends with the kids of hexside finally cooperating in order to take down the last sluggish vestiges of Belos' empire's mindset.
How characters like Willow and Hunter bottle their feelings or otherwise struggle to express them but ultimately have to learn to be open so that they don't explode. This is something the adults in the show have repeatedly struggled with and Boshca herself points out how both her and Willow are leaders. Kids being put in positions of responsibility and fumbling their way through with no guiding hand (and I could talk all day about hubtlow hand symbolism. All day)
How Camilla helps Luz but finally opening up and relating both of their struggles to each other's, telling her that they're not so different and Camilla, the adult, made a mistake that she regrets. But she can only move forward and try to understand Luz and her world better.
How it seems that, in the show that riffs on the Isekai genre, where multiple characters have escaped to other worlds (Caleb, Younger Eda and Luz) in order to be understood but seemingly never verbalized this, leading to catastrophic fallout, the solution to the main character's issues is to finally just. Understand what it is she wants out of life. And it's a very simple but very existential and meaningful goal, of wanting to be understood. The way that Caleb, Eda, and even Camilla never were.
How Luz carving a palismen in a way no-one else ever thought too seemingly gave it new and exciting abilities. Nothing to do with her being inherently special or the titans specialist little guy. Just her making an unconventional choice and being rewarded for it. It almost feels like season 1 again, y'know?
It's in the way that the collector is literally rewriting their history to be "better", but (even though they're less violent than the usual expectations of their culture) still coming up short because they're only able to understand one person in the world and treat everyone else like toys. Toys that they love, but children inevitably break even their favorite toys when they play too rough. The collectors trying to be different but they're too young, naive and manipulated to see what was actually wrong with their species way of life.
The way that king wants to stop the cycle of collectors and titans killing and trapping each other by just talking to the collector but because of circumstances still has to go behind their back which just gives Belos' fire more fuel (though tbh Belos really took a gamble on that one)
It's all of this together that makes me insane because I feel like I need the payoff right now in order to fully satiate myself but at the same time...I don't. Because I don't want it to end.
For the future was a really good episode. Bit cluttered, bit busy, but then again when is this show not? I've come to love that about the owl house despite it's nature as a flaw.
I wanna know who that guy in the in-between realm was from the beginning of the episode (titan trapper?) And I want to know what purpose he serves. I want to know where characters like Alador and Steve are, what odalia's final moment will be, what the collectors new game might be, how the conflict is going to resolve and how the show will end. And I might only get some of these in depth, and others not at all and I can't even be mad about it. This show deserves more but I'm happy with this episode, not really as a standalone episode, but as a part of this larger movie-like send-off. Looking forward to watching and dreaming. Probably going to make fanart once I finish my current assignments (I have sketches for the reqs!)
This has been a post so long and rambly that I hesitate to maintag it. It's not for anyone. It's just for me. And I'm okay with that

The many ways in which I would write an oc into the owl house part 1: A witch child the same age as luz and the gang!
I like the idea of being a background character, witnessing their Shenanigans, up to a certain point. I feel like my girl would second hand see all the stuff and low key high key develop a crush on Willow. My girl practically jumps at the idea of joining her flying derby club cuz she likes flying! How hard could derby be? The answer is very hard. She’s not as good as her friends that she called in, which makes her feel bad, but it does mean she gets special one on one time with Willow for coaching which she loves. Ultimately she does great. She gets close with all of them, almost out right joining the friend group, but only if Willow is there. They do like a thing idk and Willow ends up rejecting my girl. And she’s left standing there all sad when Boscha suddenly makes herself known and tries to cheer my girl up by insulting Willow. Which like made her laugh a little but was like hey that’s mean. And then after that they randomly end up meeting by coincidence. Spending an odd amount of time together. My girl starts to question if like she’s always been around her this much but she just didn’t notice? And then time skip -spoiler- to when the world is destroyed. My girl helps Boscha take over the school. Until kikimora appears and then she spends most of the time trying to take care of the small ones. She follows the resistance and says she suspects it’s less of Boscha that’s the problem and more of the new ppl next to her. During the big separation scene where she’s trying super hard to be with amity is when my girl realizes her feelings and immediately confesses. The next time they’re really seen interacting is at the very end. Boscha has like a professional Grudgby team she coaches and on a relationship with my girl who was became a teacher at hexside. You know they’re together cuz they hold hands. I want to say they exchange jewelry but the most she wears is a hair tie and demon horns….. so yes she’s also seen wearin her hair tie on her wrist. While my girl gives Boscha her necklace.
I actually legit forgot Boscha existed until she appeared at the end leading the school 😂

I honestly don’t understand why Amity was made into Willow’s bully. Before Luz arrived, Amity had been bullying Willow for years, however instead of having her take responsibility, the blame is shifted onto Alador, Odalia, and Boscha. Alador & Odalia told her to “stay away” from Willow not bully her. Adding on, Boscha was also bullying Willow, however, Amity was bullying Willow when Boscha was nowhere around so it wasn’t like she was peer-pressured into it. Amity decided to bully Willow when she could’ve left her alone. Lastly, I don’t understand why they made Amity a bully if they weren’t going to actually do anything more with it. The show could’ve shown why Amity became a bully, the depth of the effects it had on Willow, along with having Amity and Willow confronting the issues plaguing their relationship but the show would much rather ignore it altogether. Instead Willow is pushed into the background, having as little contact with Amity as possible to avoid writing about a tense, awkward situation.
I was just reminded of the scene where Amity catches Luz with her diary and calls Luz a bully AFTER the fact we done seen this bitch bully Willow and step on King’s cupcake. Like, the worst part about her being a bully is that they constantly still made Amity a victim somehow. Like, ig ofc she’s a “victim” in terms of her parents but the fact she’s never addressed as the aggressor otherwise is aggravating. Her character literally softened for someone she barely knew while hurting someone she literally had a history with. The fact that the show and fandom go out the way to baby Amity says enough for me.

-----Rhiannon Frostflame
Nicknames and Aliases: Rhyan or Rhya (Default nicknames) The Wyvern Witch, Ice Queen, The Best Healer on the Isles, Cruel and Fearless, Frozen Flame
Age: Roughly the same as Eda
Palisman: A Wyvern named Wisteria
Magic Specialty: Healing Magic, but is a master of Ice Magic and has created a unique spell of burning blue fire that inflicts awful frostbite and severe necrosis on anyone it comes into contact with...
Friends/Associates: Eda Clawthorne (Best friend and drinking buddy) Raine Whispers (A close friend who in spite of falling out of contact with, Rhiannon still holds them in high regards) Shaelyn Silverstone (Apprentice and Ward) Warden Wrath (Occasional Employer) Fiadh Stonespire (Grandmother figure/deceased)
Background: Rhiannon was born into one of the larger clans of the last name 'Stonespire' that still chose to follow the Gargoyle Way of communally raising their children and protecting their estate and other landholdings. They were also extremely prideful of their skilled members they contributed to the Construction Coven. From a young age, Rhiannon was considered strange due to her shunning of the clans expectations and rather developed an interest in becoming a member of the Healing Coven. Although in her youth she was particularly bad at anything involving healing, having turned several small animals inside out in her attempts to mend their injuries. Her lack of skill and stubborn pursuit of her dreams led her to be alienated from nearly all of the clan who began to treat her as an annoyance if not an embarrassment. The only individuals who showed her any affection were an older female Gargoyle named Fiadh, who Rhiannon viewed as her grandmother and Saoirse, the only rookery sister who cared about her and supported her goals.
Her fierce dedication to studying and mastering healing magics eventually paid off and she not only excelled, but grew to master every healing spell and even learned a myriad of techniques all aimed at helping others. Of course on the flip side of this, through her studies of how to heal she also learned how to inflict immense pain on others. Knowing to attack certain points where an opponent is weak in order to defeat them in a brawl, as it seemed to Rhiannon that most witches and demons had forgotten how to fight without using magic and thus a physical fight is something she can use to her advantage... And she got into fights A LOT.
When she finished her education and applied to the Healing Coven she found that she was denied membership due to her clan contacting the head of the Coven and warning him against letting her join due to her poor skills as a healer... As they had not paid attention to her enough to know of her improvement and eventual mastery of the art.
Denied her dream, humiliated by her so called clan and filled with an anger that could not be put into words, Rhiannon lost her temper and broke the jaw of the Coven Head and fled. Stating she was now going to live her life as a Wild Witch and never give a damn about anyone else ever again. She was promptly disowned by her clan, which was fine with her. She gave herself the last name of Frostflame after the spell she had created and has become synonymous with her very existence.
Personality: Rhiannon is a bit of a contradiction. At first she comes off as cold, calculating and selfish. She is extremely sarcastic and tends to believe that someone 'Can get away with anything, as long as they are useful to someone else.' Which is how she, as a Wild Witch, doesn't have a bounty on her head nor any warrents for her arrest. As she is a freelance healer whom people come to see when they either can't afford to go to the Healing Coven, or do not want there to be a record of the visit... But also members of both the Emperor's Coven and town guards bet on her in the underground fights and thus overlook that she is not in any coven... She is also not above blackmail and is currently holding a massive gambling debt over the head of Coven Head Darius. As further insurance to keep from being arrested or have the Covens forcing her to join.
However... If someone truly gets to know her, Rhiannon is a very devoted, kind hearted person who has been so burnt by the world she no longer desires to be a part of it. She has sympathy for those less fortunate than her and does genuinely wish to help the people who seek her out in need of help. She has an special soft spot in her heart for kids. Especially since in the depths of her ice cold heart she truly longs for a family. This is somewhat evident in how she took in Shaelyn and has done her best to watch out for the younger gargoyle. However her own bias's can be detrimental to the relationships she has... As she has repeatedly told Shaelyn to forget about finding out what happened to her family and missing memories. Arguing that if she forgot them there's probably a good reason for it. Which has led to a rift between her and her apprentice.

-----Shaelyn Silverstone
Nicknames and Aliases: Shae, (Default Nickname) Lyn-Lyn (From Luz)
Age: Roughly 15
Palisman: None at the moment
Magic Specialty: Is attending both the Plant track and the Oracle track in Hexside. As she has unusual visions... both while she is awake and in her sleep. These visions often warn of dark events yet to happen or strange unknown things from a past she cannot remember. While not being taught healing at Hexside, Shaelyn is receiving training in healing magics straight from her guardian Rhiannon. Due to the talent of her mentor, she doesn't believe she could learn more from the school in that subject. As for the plant track... She is in that to both hang out with her friend Willow but also to help with Rhiannons garden which tends to grow out of control more often than not. As well as helping maintain the health of the tree Rhiannon's house is currently sitting in...
Friends/Associates: Willow Park, Gus Porter and Luz Noceda (Best Friends) Rhiannon (Guardian)
Background: Little is known about Shaelyns past beyond her name. Try as she might the young Gargoyle cannot remember much of her life prior to her being found in the wrecked hull of a ship that was brought ashore by a bad storm. While she has 'Shadows of Memories' she cannot remember where exactly she was from or even the faces of her parents. Rhiannon found the girl when she was looking through the wreck and happened upon her buried underneath several heavy cargo boxes with a broken wing and a very bloody head wound. Rhiannon took her back to her home, deep in the woods and healed her. Upon realizing that the girl had no family and no memories and that she would be left in probably one of the orphanages on the Isles, Rhiannon took her in as her apprentice and Shae has been living with her for the last five years.
Although Shaelyn is in awe of her mentor and greatly admires and respects her, she often feels like a burden. Their relationship is not like that of a mother and daughter, but is probably closer to that of sisters. Or of an older sister attempting to be a mother to a younger sibling in the absence of any parents... Shae also has gone through several different means to try and find out what happened to her family... but her search has led to nothing but dead ends. It doesn't help that Rhiannon often tells her to let the subject of her family drop as she would not have forgotten them if they were close... And how she might not like what she finds if she ever does find anything.
Nonetheless, Rhiannon has done her best to take care of Shae and has enrolled her at Hexside, so she can learn other magics that Rhiannon cannot teach. It was here that Shaelyn came across the sight of Amity and Boscha bullying Willow... And using the other skills Rhyan has taught her, Shae started throwing punches and beat up both of the bullies and warned them to leave Willow alone lest they receive another beating... This was how she initially met Willow and later on Gus and the three formed a very close friendship. Some time later Luz would be introduced and Shae grows to be just as protective of her as she is of her other two friends.
Personality: Shaelyn is quite friendly and outgoing with her friends and is the first one to come to the defense of a kid that is getting bullied. Due to her training with Rhiannon she is actually pretty good at fighting physically... Unfortunately in earlier times this put Shae into direct conflict with Amity as she was often quite mean to Willow... Unaware of Amity's true nature, let alone the bullying she received from her family. Like her mentor, Shae can hold a grudge and has a long memory of people who wrong her and her friends... Only unlike Rhiannon she is more willing to give someone a second chance or allow them to make amends... This lets her and Amity to eventually become friends... Although she and Boscha will never get along and Shae will continue to administer black eyes whenever the other girl starts looking for a fight. But when it comes to complete strangers, Shaelyn can be very wary... As was evident when she and the others were looking at booths set up by the Covens for recruitment and she was approached by Hunter as the Golden Guard. Now Hunter, with his very lackluster social skills was attempting to just talk nicely and give Shae a few compliments... Unfortunately for him he came off as aloof and mocking her. This resulted in two punches to his helm and three into his ribs. The blows to the mask dented it so badly it became stuck and the blows to his ribs made it difficult to breathe... Resulting in him passing out and needing to be carried away by Steve.
Undoubtedly when she learns more about Hunter, she will be remorseful for kicking his ass.

-----Saoirse Fireglass
Nicknames: Saer (General Nickname) The Glass Maker, The Crystal Witch, Firebender and Wannabe-Matchmaker (From Rhiannon)
Age: Same as Rhiannon
Palisman: A unique serpent with four eyes and a golden moth shaped hood named Amaranth
Magic Specialty: Construction magic with the specialty of glassmaking and crystal working. She is also capable of using fire spells in a fight.
Friends/Associates: Rhiannon (Rookery sister and best friend) Eda Clawthorne (Friend) Lilith Clawthorne (Friend) Shaelyn (Niece-figure)
Background: Saoirse was born into the same clan and was even from the same clutch as Rhiannon, born with the family name of Stonespire. However unlike her Rookery sister, Saoirse was considered to be one of the most magically gifted gargoyles that had ever been born into the clan. She displayed immense talent in the construction track and was even able to master a very difficult branch of the track that dealt with glassmaking and crystal working. In spite of the heaps of praise and accolades she received amidst her family, she developed a close friendship with Rhyan and was always deeply off-put when she witnessed how she was ostracized by other members of their clan. Still upon completing her schooling she was quickly brought into the Construction Coven and was even taken under the wing of the Coven Head for a time.
But when Rhiannon was cast out from their clan, Saoirse was livid. One of the few times anyone could truly remember her getting angry. She was pretty much told by the clan leader that Rhiannon was a disgrace and that Saer was always special and brought a great deal of respect and admiration to their entire clan with her talent... so she needed to stop defending that lost soul and continue to move forward and possibly become the next Coven Head...
Saoirse formally cut ties with the clan right then and there.
She gave herself a new name and while still formally a member of the Construction Coven, she chose to renounce any Coven status she had an instead opened her own business. She did so with the blessing of the Coven Head, who remains her good friend to this day.
When it comes to her wayward Rookery sister, Saer deeply worries about Rhyan and would love to see her find a place in the world rather than trying to live outside it. Although she knows that the stubborn Wild Witch is unlikely to ever change her ways without reason...
Personality: Unlike Rhiannon, Saer is a bubbly, friendly and outgoing individual who always looks for the good in people... In fact she is probably one of the few people who believes there just might be some good inside the Emperor's heart. (When she voiced this Rhiannon laughed so hard she swallowed the cigarette she was smoking.) Due to this kind nature she has, Rhyan frequently worries about her being taken advantage of... Fortunately Saoirse also is quick witted and can pretty quickly tell if someone is trying to pull a fast one on her. She also has a weird gift for matchmaking, as she can just tell when two people are right for each other. It's something that Rhiannon frequently teases her about.
...Until she finds one stranger who seems to be just perfect for the Wild Witch...

Jersey Stealing Pt.2
Well. You all need to stop liking my stuff. It only encourages me. Anyways, Jersey Stealing is now at a 4 parter so I lied before apparently. I just got done writing part 3 so I’ll post the second part here now! Honestly it’s the most boring of the 4... so... apologies. I’ve said too many numbers now.
Also eventually I’ll learn how tumblr works and actually just... make a master post... or like link back to previous parts. Ah... dreams. Anyways, we meet a new character today. Apologies in advance, this do be the boring part out of the bunch.
***
“Ms. Noceda?”
“Can you tell me about Luz’s classmates?”
The dish dropped from the woman's hands. The sound of it clattering back into the sink echoed throughout the quiet house.
“I’m sorry!” Amity yelped as the sharp sound caused her to wince.
Camilla turned around quickly, holding up her hands with a smile on her face.
“No, no. It’s fine.” Camilla reassured her gently. “The last time I was asked that, it wasn't a pleasant talk.”
“So, it’s not good then.” Amity sank deeper into her seat at the kitchen table.
In all honesty, there was a part of her that already knew that the truth wasn't pretty. It was the same part that caused a painful twist of her heart whenever her girlfriend 'shut down'.
Camilla sighed. She reached over to the counter and grabbed a towel, drying her hands as she sat down on the opposite end of the small table.
"Well, I'm sure I don't need to tell you this but Luz has always been..."
"Odd." Amity finished for her.
The older lady nodded and suddenly the bags under her eyes seemed to darken. Camilla Noceda looked tired.
"At first, it wasn't such a big deal. Every little child starts off 'odd'." Camilla chuckled. "But eventually all the other kids grew up, while Luz's imagination grew wild."
Amity clenched her fists. She knew where this story was going. Knew how easy of a target a girl like Luz was. After all, it wasn't too long ago that she would jump on the 'odd' ones at school.
"She began to make her classmates feel... uncomfortable. Those who didn't go out of their way to avoid her, lashed out, especially because my daughter doesn't exactly know how to take no for an answer."
"That's an understatement." Amity laughed softly as Camilla cracked a small smile.
"Every school we tried her in had it's own problems. Eventually I think Luz finally understood how the other kids felt about her. That was about when we found a school that seemed to work... but of course there were still problems. And there was also Bryce."
Amity's ears twitched. Bryce? Camilla must've noticed her confusion as the older lady lifted her glasses and rubbed her nose tiredly.
"Bryce was, or rather is, a mean kid who thinks he deserves the world. And because he is the 'star athlete' of the school and is well liked by all the teachers... he usually gets it."
Guilt began to twist in Amity's heart. This sounded all too familiar.
"Him and Luz always got into it. He was the only person who ever managed to bother her. Everyone else she simply... ignored."
Camilla sighed heavily and looked at the table. Amity could tell it bothered her, the way Luz was treated. The witch wondered if Camilla was happier now that Luz had found so many friends in another world.
Or if maybe she was still just stuck in the past.
Amity pushed aside her feelings and Camilla's both as she tried to puzzle together what might have happened the other night. If it was just another spat with Bryce, well, Amity saw how Luz used to handle Boscha. That kinda fighting didn't get to her like this...
Even now, 2 days later, it was obvious something was still bothering Luz.
As Amity sat there, sinking further and further into her chair, another question entered her mind. One that she just had to know... even if it was painful.
"Was there anyone?" The witch blurted out after a short pause.
Camilla looked up at her quizzically.
"Anyone who was... nice to Luz? Or at least gave her a chance."
Amity's heart sank as Camilla shook her head sadly.
"I wouldn’t call the girl nice, but Luz always came home gushing about a Sasha. She was a fine enough girl, never joined the other kids in bullying Luz. I think that’s why Luz held on to the hope that one day they could be friends."
***
“Alright. What’s up with Luz?”
Amity turned as the team captain of the Otter’s skated up to her. The witch immediately turned her head back to look at her girlfriend, sitting quietly in the players box, scribbling something in her notebook.
Luz hadn’t moved all practice.
“Yeah, we noticed all right.” Lokte acknowledged Amity’s unspoken question as she turned back to them with a heavy sigh,
“I don’t know.” Amity answered sullenly.
The witch had nothing. Even the answers Camilla gave her this morning didn’t seem to help. Her shoulders slumped as Lokte lined up for their next shot.
A loud crack echoed around the rink as the puck sailed straight into the goal. Amity’s eyes flicked up once again to Luz. Normally a shot like that would have her out of her seat and cheering.
Instead, the rink remained quiet.
Lokte kicked up some ice as they skidded back around to rest near Amity again. Leaning against their stick, they raised an eyebrow.
“You don’t know?"
"No." Amity growled, digging at the ice with her skates. "And it's getting worse..."
Lokte shifted, tossing their stick in the air flippantly. Amity could tell Luz's behavior was worrying them too. They were anxious to do something.
"All I know is that something happened at our game the other night. Luz ran into her old classmates."
Her captain growled, and Amity knew why. When the team first started to bond with both her and Luz, they wanted to know why they weren't enrolled in any local school. It was a fair question and Luz told them that they were too cool for school. Amity only told the truth to some of her teammates later. About how poorly Luz was treated and how she had decided to be homeschooled when she came back from 'camp'.
Lokte was one of the more vocally upset ones, having been treated similarly themselves for being who they were. Amity watched as their face changed into a slightly more hopeful expression.
"Wait, you said this happened the other night? My brother goes to Luz's old school, he went to the game with a couple of his friends. I'll bother him about it when I get home. See if the little weasel heard anything." Lokte grinned.
Amity could only stare at them, she glanced back up to Luz as her fingers curled tighter around her stick.
"Try to get names for me. I understand if Luz doesn't want to talk, but I'm looking forward to having a... conversation... with whoever is responsible for this."
Amity felt a gloved hand on her shoulder. Turning around she saw was met with the supportive eyes of her team captain.
"I'll let you know as soon as I know." They nodded.
***
- Is Luz home?
- Yeah she's asleep. Why?
- I'm coming over.
Amity stared at her phone. The short conversation with Lokte happened only a few minutes earlier. She didn't know where they lived, or how they knew where she lived. The witch could only guess it had to do with her girlfriend who was currently passed out, snoring, on her lap. Amity dropped the phone to her side and let her face sink into Luz's hair. In the background she could hear the movie that they had put on earlier, but she couldn't care less about it at the moment.
Amity loved the end of every night, when she was finally able to have Luz all to herself. Squeezing the human ever tighter, Luz sleepily snuggled further into her girlfriend’s arms with a large smile on her face.
The witch sighed as she heard a buzzing come from nearby. It was her phone. She felt a sharp flicker of annoyance, before gently kissing Luz's forehead and leaning back to check it.
Swiping across the screen she answered the call.
"Hey. I'm out front. You're going to want to hear this." Lokte voice answered, their tone guarded.
Amity glanced down at Luz who was still snoring away.
"Alright, give me a moment." Amity told them quietly, hanging up.
Taking a deep breath, she shifted Luz aside her on the couch. Her girlfriend groaned softly, but Amity simply grabbed the blanket and pulled it up to tuck her in, silencing any sleepy protest that would follow. Leaning down she swiped her jersey off the floor and gave it to Luz. For being almost entirely asleep, Luz snatched it quickly from Amity's hands, relaxing back into sleep as she buried her face into the material.
Amity smiled softly. She already couldn't wait to get back under the blankets with her. Grabbing a coat from the front closet, the witch opened the door and slipped out into the night. Standing on the front lawn, Lokte held a squirming kid by the ear.
"Come on, let me go already!!"
"Tell her what you told me!" Lokte ordered sharply, letting the boy's ear go and shoving him forward.
Amity raised an eyebrow. This must've been the little brother.
"Fine. Yeesh! Like I told my sibling over here," the boy turned around to glare at the hulking figure of Lokte before turning back to Amity, "I went to the game with a group of my friends. Sasha and Bryce left to go grab some snacks and when they came back Sasha was really shaken up and Bryce was pissed. They told us something about a really creepy delusional girl who was stalking you. Claiming to be your girlfriend."
Amity's eyes narrowed.
"I don't see why I'm in trouble! We were just watching out for Amity. I mean Bryce usually over exagerrates everything but this was serious. Sasha looked genuinely freaked out, and nothing EVER gets to her. They told the girl that they would call the cops on her if she came near you and then we left shortly after. That's it. That's all that happened. I don't even know what the creep looked like."
Amity's mind was buzzing with anger. She could feel her face going red and had to remind herself to breathe as she heard the two siblings begin to squabble.
"You little, THAT WAS LUZ! Amity's actual girlfriend!"
The boy's eyes widened as they shot between Amity and Lokte.
"Wha- I didn't, I didn't know that!! I swear! The way Bryce was describing her you'd think she was some sort of criminal!" He yelped as Lokte grabbed him by the scruff of his jacket.
"Go. Wait. In. The. Car." They growled. "We'll talk about your choice in friends later."
The boy shrank under his sibling's glare and Amity felt a small bit of pity. Lokte was no small person, they towered over pretty much everyone they met and had the muscles to match. Being on their bad side had to be terrifying, but in actuality that was nothing compared to the pure fury radiating off of Amity as the brother's words registered.
After they watched their brother climb back into the car, Lokte turned to Amity and immediately flinched in fear under the witch's furious stare.
"Looks like I'll be paying Luz's old school a visit tomorrow." Amity growled after a short pause.
Lokte's fear eased only a bit as their eyes lit up with mischief. "Let me know if you need anything."
"I'll see you tomorrow at practice." Amity nodded, ignoring the suggestion as she turned to walk back into the house.
She stopped with her hand on the door handle and turned around. Lokte was climbing back into their car. The teammates shared a look as Amity nodded.
'Thank you.' She mouthed.
Lokte gave her a small smile.
'Anytime.' They mouthed back, turning on the car and pulling away.
When Amity went back inside, she crawled back into Luz's arms, squeezing her close. Tomorrow, she would have to talk with Luz about what she had learned, but tonight?
Tonight Amity buried her head deep into Luz's shoulder, her anger draining rapidly under her girlfriend's warmth.
Regardless of how Luz was always somehow able to relax her, Amity laid there wide awake. Wishing she could do something, anything, to somehow fix the years of emotional abuse Luz had suffered.
All she could do however was hold Luz closer and wait until morning...

In Your Dreams - Chapter 1
Looking back to Boscha, terrified, Luz saw that she was suddenly summoning a lot more balls, setting all of them on fire.
She felt her heart sinking.
Oh no.
---
When a grudgby accident shows how fragile humans really are, Boscha is forced to act quickly and Amity's world shatters.
This fic takes place when Luz takes Willow's place in "Wing it like Witches" and explores an alternate ending.
In case the warnings weren't enough, here's another few:
TW blood, violence, injuries, angst, and the characters facing the possibility of death.
Now that everything is cleared up, I hope you have a lot of fun reading!
I'm excited to start creating for this fandom now! ;)
Ao3 / FF.net
---
“It’s after school! Where’s the leader of your loser brigade?”, Boscha greeted Luz in full uniform, flanked by her team. Luz gulped at that but straightened her shoulders.
She had pushed Willow and Gus too hard. She had been the one to get Willow into this mess.
And she was the one to set it right again.
“I’m here on her behalf!”, she made a dramatic break, then she breathed in and propped her hands up on her hips, “We forfeit.”
The shock was visible on the whole team's faces and she could even hear Amity gasping from the sidelines. It had to go that way, Luz told herself, that was the solution to the situation she had created.
“And I’m here to tell you that I’ll take Willows place as your-”, at that she pointed on her fingers, “-water gofer, target practice, whatever you need.”
This caused a little while of silence, before Boscha’s hand sank. She looked down on the ball in her hands and for the first time, Luz heard actual respect in her voice when she spoke.
“Wow, you’re a really good friend.”, that almost made Luz feel at ease. Almost.
Because as soon as she’d said it, Boscha drew a circle and set the grudgby ball on fire. Luz gulped at the hateful smirk Boscha sent in her direction, “And a perfect target!”
The Latina gasped, her eyes widening in shock. She-… Wasn’t actually gonna do that, right?
“Think fast!”, Boscha shouted, then she aimed and threw the flaming ball at her.
Luz could just so jump to the side, grunting at the impact with the ground and the heat of the flaming ball washing over her, before watching a tree behind her falling due to the incredible force with which the young witchling had thrown the ball.
Looking back to Boscha, terrified, Luz saw that she was suddenly summoning a lot more balls, setting all of them on fire.
She felt her heart sinking.
Oh no.
She could just so escape the flaming balls by jumping up and running, yelping in fear as she did. She knew witches were magically enhanced, making them stronger and more resistant, but this was even dangerous for a witch. And her as a human?
Luz didn’t want to know what a sonic ball like the one Boscha liked to cut trees with would do to her human body.
Her memory got hazy when she started running. After a few strides across the field, she was already trying to catch her breath. Damn her cursed nerd endurance. She was never the sporty type!
Flaming and biting balls shot after her left and right when she sprinted into the other direction again, setting off various traps on the field like pillars of fire and spikes, as well as disgusting grabby arms and other, very dangerous things. Luz didn’t think she’d survive this.
She had thought that a lot of times on the Boiling Isles, and she had never actually meant it because her optimism and mostly Eda had ensured that nothing bad would happen.
But right now?
Nobody could stop Boscha. She meant every throw.
This time Luz felt real, actual fear bubbling up in her, clenching her chest and making her breaths go fast. She was doomed this time.
A ball threw her off balance and she stumbled, feeling a sharp pain rippling up her leg. Luz screamed, but she knew Boscha wasn’t taking this seriously. She wouldn’t stop.
“Boscha! B-Boscha, stop, stop, I learned my lesson!”, she tried pleading when she got back up again, trying to hobble away but some spikes blocked her way. She couldn’t run to the sides because she wasn’t fast enough. Turning, she watched Boscha light another ball on fire. In her three eyes, a certain amount of madness flashed, and Luz wondered if she actually wanted to kill her. In the background, Boscha’s teammates finally jumped to action, calling out for their friend and waving their arms while running onto the field, trying to stop her but Boscha wouldn’t.
She didn’t take Luz seriously.
“Having fun yet? Cuz I’m just getting warmed up!”
Luz ripped her arms up at the ball flying towards her. Nobody would be helping her this time.
She was all on her own and she had willingly started this. She didn’t have any glyphs on her.
This was it.
The ball hit her with such a force that she was thrown back against the spikes which had cut off her way. Her arms burned when the flames of the ball started licking on her skin, and she heard a crack when her head connected with the rocks. Her body followed and she felt her feet being ripped off the ground. The force of the blow crushed her spine against the same spike as well while her head fell forwards and she could just so blink before already losing her consciousness.
She never felt herself hitting the ground.
Boscha hesitated when the human took a hard blow. Her team stopped dead in their tracks.
She at least wanted her back on her feet, it’d be funnier to try and hit her again. A moving target was better practice anyway.
But she didn’t get back up.
The ball fell from Boscha’s hands as she shouted over to the human.
“Hey, get up! The practice isn’t over yet.”
Nothing moved.
The witchling had seen a lot of grudgby matches when growing up, and she had played in a lot herself. She knew what unconsciousness looked like. But she didn’t think the human was actually out. Anyone playing grudgby should be able to take a hit like this. It wasn’t even such a strong one. Any witch would get right back up, the human was just playing.
She huffed as stalked over, inconvenienced by this. She didn’t wanna have to be bothered by this.
When she approached, she suddenly saw red. A lot of red.
All around the human was red, a whole puddle, her hair was damp, and she wasn’t moving.
Immediately, Boscha forgot all antics, her status, and quickly strode over, reaching the human and kneeling in her blood. Her uniform was suddenly wet, but Boscha couldn’t care.
Grudgby could be a cruel sport, exactly what she liked about that.
She just hadn’t thought the human would get so badly injured by that. Human anatomy wasn’t something Boscha knew a lot about, but she decided it’d be better not to move her too much. Humans were fragile, she had heard her parents say once when she and her friends had been little and had played human. Her parents had forbidden her to play human ever again because they were weak. Degenerates.
And now she was feeling the pulse of one, her heart suddenly racing. Her pulse was there, weak but still rhythmic. This was actually scary. Boscha had never seen that much blood, all over the human’s clothes, all over her face and hair, and all over the field, a puddle of blood.
Her team now approached, just when panic bubbled up in her throat, but she suppressed it, thought tactical.
“Cat, get the healing professor, as fast as you can! Immediately!!”
Her friend turned and hexed some wings on her shoes, to fly faster. Skara kneeled next to her and wanted to turn her over but Boscha stopped her, her hands full of blood.
“Don’t do that, we might hurt her more. We have to-”
The human’s pulse was getting erratic. Paused for one, two beats, then it resurfaced again. Boscha realized they might not have the time for the professor to arrive.
Suddenly, a yelp and a scream sounded and she turned to the source. Willow, Gus, and Amity had arrived at the field’s sidelines. Willow reacted fast and covered Gus’ eyes.
Amity leaped.
“BOSCHA!!”, she screamed suddenly, furiously. Shit.
Boscha knew Amity had a crush on the human She hadn’t been subtle in hiding it. Girl had been super obvious with her tomato face.
“Amelia, stop Amity.”, Boscha instructed and returned her attention to the unconscious human while checking her pulse again, “Skara, we might need to move her over. She can’t stay face down like that. Cat should be returning with the healing professor soon.”
“BOSCHA, YOU SORRY EXCUSE FOR A WITCH!!”, Amity screamed from her cage of vines that Amelia had trapped her in. Somewhere deep down, Boscha hurt at her words, but she had to stay focused right now. Amity was emotional and she’d attack her, and touch the human, maybe even try to hug or move her. They couldn’t risk it, “LEMME AT HER, AMELIA, I’LL RIP HER UP!!”
Silently, Boscha was thankful for Willow and Gus not helping Amity. Willow had sent Gus away to get something, water maybe, to keep him distracted, then she came over and sat down next to Boscha while she checked the human’s breathing by leaning down, getting her hair all wet from the blood, but she didn’t even feel that. Her breathing was shallow and uneven, her pulse fading.
“DON’T BE A FUCKING COWARD BOSCHA, FIGHT ME!!”, Amity’s voice broke at the tears forming in her eyes and the sobs bubbling up in her throat but she still pushed against the vines as hard as she could, trying to reach for Boscha who was still far away.
“We need to put her on her back, we might need to do CPR.”, Boscha instructed, her eyes squinted in concentration when she kept feeling the weakening pulse of the human, “Willow, can you make a stretcher of sorts?”
“I SWEAR, BOSCHA, I’LL MAKE YOU FEEL SO SORRY!!”
The girl from the plant track, her rival as she faintly remembered, quickly jumped to action. She created a stretcher from the ground and kicked it to break it off its roots, handing one side to Boscha while staying at Luz’s feet.
“BOSCHA, I SWEAR TO THE TITAN, I’LL KILL YOU!!”
Skara softly cupped the human’s forehead and steadied her hip, while Willow secured her legs. The team captain mirrored Skara’s hand on her forehead and wrapped her arms around the human’s shoulders, and on three, they turned her on her back. She looked awful.
Her brown skin almost looked grey and she wasn’t moving at all. Boscha once again leaned down to check her breathing. Her heart sank.
The human had stopped breathing.
“Fuck. Skara, you hold her shoulder, Willow, her legs. Make sure she doesn’t move around too much. Amelia, come here. You’ll switch with me once I get tired.”
At once, Boscha started pressing down on the human’s chest repeatedly. She didn’t know exactly where to place her hands, because she knew humans didn’t have a bile sac, so she just winged it and put her hands directly over her heart. Counting, she pushed down several times before closing the human’s nose and blowing into her mouth.
Amity only raged more at that, but Boscha didn’t even hear her anymore. The CPR took over all her senses and she went into hyper-focus. Push, push, push a few times, breathe, and again. And again.
Finally, after Boscha switching with Amelia and then back again, cat showed up with her healing professor.
He had brought the Illusions professor with him as well, for safe transport, and after assessing the situation the two of them vanished with the human in a cloud of blue. All that remained were the grudgby girls, Willow and Amity, who had sunk into herself in the vine cage Amelia had created for her, sobbing quietly.
And the big puddle of blood that the human had left here.
Boscha leaned back and fell against the spike that remained standing, against which the human had crashed when she had thrown that ball.
Fuck.
They breathed through for a moment until Willow and Boscha exchanged a gaze. They both had known Amity for a long time. If they didn’t stop her spiral now, she’d let it eat her up. For the first time, Boscha and Willow shared an opinion. They got up and walked over to the cage. Willow sank to her knees next to Amity’s curled-up position and began hugging her, then Amelia released the cage. The vines receded into the ground between Willow’s arms and Amity softly leaned against her old friend, still crying.
Boscha sat down next to them and pulled up her legs, not sure what to say. It had been her fault.
Sure, grudgby was a cruel sport and she had seen a lot of injuries already, but she hadn’t known the human was so fragile that she couldn’t take that hit. A witch would’ve been able to get back up again, to continue after that.
She wouldn’t have attacked the human as wildly if she had known. The picture of the bloodied classmate still shook her, but it was burnt into her memories now. She wouldn’t be able to shake it, ever again, and she felt like she deserved that.
Boscha wasn’t a bad witch. She had enjoyed being in charge, of course, but she had never wanted to hurt someone as badly. She hadn’t known the consequences.
“… I’m sorry…”, she finally mumbled, when the horror settled, “I’m so sorry…”
It wouldn’t bring the human back. She knew that. It wouldn’t make everything okay again.
Much to her surprise, Amity reached out and pulled on her shirt. Boscha looked up to see the puffed and swollen eyes of her friend and scooted closer. She didn’t dare to hug the Blight, but she’d be here for her. Amelia and Skara joined them in their group, as well as Cat. At some point, Gus arrived with some water and snacks for which Willow had sent him. She had figured Gus shouldn’t have to see his friend like this, when already reacting extremely to his flags being broken.
They stayed like this for a little while, until Amity had dozed off against Willow's shoulder, so they called the Blight twins to pick Amity up on the grudgby field so that the grudgby team could go home to change and wash while Willow and Gus would notify Eda.
After Amity had been picked up by her siblings and everyone else had gone home, Willow and Gus started their way down the way through the forest where Luz had always shown up for school.
Willow still hadn’t changed her clothes. Her knees and sleeves were still full of blood, even if she had scrubbed her hands and arms clean in the school.
This wasn’t gonna be easy. They knew Eda could get very protective of her apprentice, and she had almost started acting like a mother for Luz. Telling her that her apprentice was injured wouldn’t be something Willow would be looking forward to.
She nervously rubbed her arm when they got closer to the Owl House, so much so that Gus stopped her arm by touching her.
“Willow, Eda won’t be mad at us.”, he clarified. Sweet Gus.
“No, of course not. But I don’t like bringing bad news.”, she sighed, “And this is very bad news. Gus, we don’t even know if-…”
Gus remained silent, as did she when her voice died. They didn’t know, couldn’t know. What should they even say? There was an accident and now they didn’t know what had happened to Luz?
Willow sighed again when the Owl House came into view, Hooty spotting them already and swinging in to announce their arrival in his high-pitched voice. Willow and Gus flinched as Eda appeared in the doorframe in what seemed to be a grudgby jacket, making the situation all the more real.
The witch mustered them up and down, she had of course immediately noted the absence of her kid and crossed her arms. A defensive action, Willow noticed. When people were scared, uncomfortable, or caged in they often did that.
“Hey, Eda…”
“So, why didn’t you bring Luz back here? Is she in trouble?”, Eda forced a grin when they got closer, probably not having been able to identify the blood on Willow’s clothing, “Did she pull some kinda prank involving paint?”
But there was no humor or bite in her voice. Willow heard the concern and she bit her lip not to let it out yet. Not yet.
She couldn’t start crying now, because then she wouldn’t stop.
“There-… A few girls from the grudgby team gave us a hard day and Luz challenged them. There was an accident.”
Eda’s ears twitched when her face fell. She connected the dots and suddenly, she knew all too well what that kid had on her clothes. Gus comfortingly placed a hand on Willow's back while Eda felt the world swimming and her head being dizzy. That was blood.
“Mrs. Eda?”, the small one now asked, causing the older witch to look back at him, her vision out of focus, “Luz is now in the Healer’s Coven. If you wanna see her, you can go.”
Right, the Healer’s Coven was neutral ground. Eda stretched out her hand and caught Owlbert flying at her, then she got up on her staff.
“Hop on, kids, I’ll fly you home. Hooty, watch the house. King, come on, hurry up!”
They heard a scurrying sound, then some panting, and finally King appeared in the door Hooty closed behind him, just before he jumped up into Eda’s hair and looked out by her cheek.
“What are we doing? Pickpocketing?”, he asked excitedly.
“We’re visiting Luz, little guy, after flying them home.”, everyone had found a seat on her staff and she gave Owlbert a little smack, “Let’s go! They’ll explain on the way there.”
The room was dark when Eda entered. King was asleep in her hair and she carefully nestled him out, then she placed Owlbert on the wall and sat down on the lower end of the Healer’s bed, taking King into her lap.
Luz looked grey and pale in the moonlight, and so small in the sheets. She was only a child.
“Hey kid…”, Eda began, but she couldn’t make her voice work so she whispered, “… You’re such a troublemaker. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’ve got that from me.”
The witch chuckled when she reached for her hand, a little cool to the touch but alive. Very much alive.
The healers had done an exceptional job patching her up. They had been able to assure that she wouldn’t suffer any long-lasting consequences and that neither her spine nor her brain would be damaged. Softly, Eda rubbed along the back of her hand, then her gaze wandered over the injuries.
Luz’s arms were bandaged from heavy burns. She’d get some nasty scars from that.
Her face was also a little burned but not as bad as her arms. Her skull had gotten quite a beating and she had lost a lot of blood, but the healers had assured Eda it’d be fine. A bandage around her head still proved the serious injury she had suffered.
Her spine had been injured in multiple places but they could fix it again and now they just had to wait a few days until the sleeping spell wore off, to ensure that Luz wouldn’t move for a bit.
Eda got up to sit down on the sofa in the room and make it a little comfortable. She had a few long days ahead of her.

I hope you liked it!
If you did, feel free to leave a Like and reblog, if you want! I'll update this fic relatively soon!
Thanks, this means a lot to me! <3

ok I’m gonna wait to write a full fledged background until s2 ends but for now here are my s/is relationships w the t/oh characters because they are in my brain rent free
incoherent ramblings below!!
Eda: best friends at hexside, Eda was always dragging Ris to get into some kind of mischief but Ris always had a knack for getting out of trouble, confided in each other a lot about their home lives and formed and very close bond!! much later Eda and Ris lost touch w each other, but still think about one another every so often. During season 1, Ris begins teaching at Hexside, specifically the bard track! Luz, Willow and Guz especially take a liking to him, and that’s how he and Eda meet each other once again. it’s really weird and awkward at first because so much has changed, but soon Ris and Eda are best friends again, just like old times (or IS IT.....)
Lilith: ALSO Ris‘ best friend at Hexside, sometimes felt left out or like a third wheel because Ris and Eda were trouble makers and Lilith was always the teacher‘s pet, but the three really were inseparable for a long time. Ris was far more easy going than the Clawthorne sisters, and helped them cool off when they needed to. Ris and Lilith actually kept in contact in adulthood, though it was limited cause Lily was very busy w the emperor’s coven, aaand they weren’t exactly encouraging her to have friends :( Ris and Lilith have a teasing, amiable friendship throughout season 1, but Ris is FURIOUS when they find out she cursed Eda
Luz: MY KID!!! Ris is very nice and Cool to Luz and becomes her favorite teacher right away (besides Skara, Luz is the only other main character studying the bard track!) Ris visits the owl house all the time and v quickly becomes part of the family w Eda. He’s sort of a mix of older sibling and parent to Luz, especially when the emperor’s coven takes Eda, Ris steps in and gives Luz the comfort and inspiration she needs (and in a way Luz gives that to Ris too.) and Luz, King and Ris go save Eda!! YEAH!!!!
Boscha: ok Boscha is my terrible little daughter I love her. Ris is Boscha’s favorite teacher and gently tries to make her see the error of her ways, a little bit a time. I think Ris definitely realizes that Boscha has just as bad a home life as Amity (and Amity is a redeemed bully too.) They quickly put a stop to any bullying Boscha does (and Boscha DREADS getting caught by Ris because it’s a “I’m not mad, just disappointed“ thing. and Ris definitely gives her terrible detention work to do lmao) but Ris loves Boscha’s snappy attitude and sees a lot of good and potential for good in her! Ris just adopts all the kids at hexside it’s inevitable
Hooty: Ris LOVES hooty they think he’s the funniest being ever and doesn’t mind listening to him or indulging him sometimes. the only person Hooty loves more than Ris I think is Lilith sgjdkg (but that’s in season 2)

Them’s the Breaks, Kid!
            RAINE YOU CLEVER BASTARD-
OH MY GGGAAAAWWWDDDD!!!! This TWIST y’all!!! Raine pretended to be brainwashed, the setup of this reveal, all of it!
Just… How Raine pretends that Terra’s tea is working on them, but in reality they’re using bard magic to nullify the effects, but SHE doesn’t know because Terra isn’t a bard, she’s a plant witch! HAHA, clever Raine, exposing the gaps and flaws of the system through this simple trick; And motivating their own rebellion as well! And confirmation that they’re working with Darius and Eberwolf and likely got them on their side after the fact, explaining how Terra brainwashed them and how THEY’RE liable to be brainwashed…
Or were they always in on it, and this was all a plan?! A complex, genius plan to out Raine as a traitor, making Belos believe Terra has drugged them to keep them in line; Allowing Raine to get in close, because they assume they already dealt with the problem?! ALL ACCORDING TO KEIKAKU Raine even has the freaking glasses! And if this was their plan since the very start… I assume they didn’t tell Eda, to keep her safe, and maybe out of some justified salt over EDA keeping secrets in their relationship???
GOD THE AGENCY!!! This SHOW keeps delivering, making you think Raine is gonna be brainwashed and fridged… Only to show that they still have SOME agency… ONLY TO SHOW THEY HAVE ALL OF IT! Raine you FIENDISHLY clever bard!!!
Also Luz! Luz is excited to hear of Eda’s backstory, she and King know of Raine now! And she’s figured out more spells from Philip’s diary, including the flesh arm! Luz hasn’t made the connection to Belos yet, I guess she assumes the flesh arm to be a spell used by multiple witches and not Belos-exclusive, which, fair. We as the audience are omnipotent and know the tropes so we can make these connections, but for Luz, she’s grown out of those assumptions that she’s part of a narrative (even if she technically is but that’s semantics). I hope we get to see Luz use these spells in the future… And god, imagine Belos’ reaction! But also the danger, because to him it might confirm that Luz has already done the time loop and he no longer has to preserve his ‘destiny’ by letting her live… But now I want to see karma with Luz turning Philip’s own glyphs against him!
LILY! Lilith! Her part is brief but it makes SENSE from a meta perspective, how Lilith feels left behind and glossed over for Raine and Eda’s friendship! How she gets left behind because of Raine, she starts feeling lonely… She’s left by herself to focus on the coven, and Eda doesn’t realize she left her sister behind! God it really hurts seeing how they genuinely WANTED this with each other, how it was their genuine dream; And then because Eda never told Lilith about what exactly happened, Lilith is blindsided by Eda’s choice to back down! Meaning if she KNEW she might not have cursed Eda… AAGUUGGHGGHH!!!
Also the parallels and bookends… Terra, in a way, brought Eda and Raine together, and seemingly acts as a buffer between them… But in a way as her vines ensnare, they can also bring together? Interesting to see a younger version of her, even if she’s still an adult. And considering how messed up Terra is, it seems she’s def from those more brutal parts of the isles! Her plant maze reminds me of the maze that Hunter alluded to, is THIS the one? Or is this just a hint of the tryouts the EC recruits have to go through? Or did Terra actually make this a part of the official regiment due to her disappointment in how easy the exercises were?!
Glad to see the Bump lore, he was a vice principal… Also glad to see how he continues to stick out for Eda and other kids, we stan a good and healthy teacher! Faust is funny but I wonder how Terra knows him… He kinda reminds me of Wrath. Also, we saw that glasses girl in the background from the YBOS flashback, with a three-eyed witch… ARE THOSE BOSCHA’S PARENTS LIKE WE SPECULATED?!?! Likewise, I think we might’ve seen Willow’s other dad –the one with glasses- except without the glasses, as part of the St. Epiderm kids!
This would imply that he, Gilbert, and Willow moved from the Knee to Hexside; Which REALLY recontextualizes Amity’s decision to leave Willow behind, if it means allowing her friend to enroll! Because Willow is a transfer student and she already left St. Epiderm, possibly because it was too expensive… So Amity wants her friend to be able to still hang out and learn in Bonesborough, so she has to let her make it into Hexside! GOD the subtle recontextualization and hints and clues and worldbuilding…! The connections!
Young Eda was a RIOT and it hurts seeing her before the curse. Seeing how great her magic was, seeing her try different forms of magic! Which, it seems that kids try to learn other forms of magic outside their track, in preparation for the EC tryouts… But when learning other tracks is against the rule, it just seems like a flawed and skewed system, huh? But as we see with Terra, the coven is about throwing kids into the lake to see if they swim, it’s a flawed system for a reason.
I’m also attached to that cyclops spider witch, I love how she has a horrific, inhuman face yet talks like any normal kid! ALSO DARIUS! DARIUS USED TO BE FRIENDS WITH ALADOR?!!? And young Odalia too… Did Odalia get between them, or was it just a falling-out? Or is there NO falling-out, it’s just playful ribbing? Did Darius want to rise with the coven with him like Lilith did with Eda, but then Al chose his beloved and went away from that, prompting Darius’ bitterness! If so… Darius and Lilith parallels. Odalador and Raeda parallels, even!
I love this episode. It adds to the lore and plot while filling out the background and past; Seeing how Eda came to her decision to reject the duel with Lilith, after doing so with Raine, seeing how kids are pitted against each other! How this choice is caused by Terra, who indirectly radicalizes Eda… Lilith feels left out when Eda gets to have fun by Raine and take the focus this episode with them, leaving her behind; So she can only focus on the coven, she doesn’t get the experience to realize how messed up it is! She doesn’t have any other friends herself, but when Eda does… She goes to the coven for approval, because it feels like Eda is just gonna ditch her anyway, hence cursing her!
GAAAGGGGHHHHH it hurts seeing how much those sisters really wanted it, how they all had each other! And Lilith… God she must’ve hated Raine, then; Which adds to that childhood photo we saw! And Raine, switching over to St. Epiderm… Them and Eda were NEVER rivals to lovers, just lovers! But also the parallels to LUMITY, having them really make their first step together as friends, at the Covention center?! Parallels and foils, the recontextualization that adds and makes past decisions feel even more informed and understandable, motivated… It makes my brain go feral! And I think we saw the Sin-a-Bun dude as a younger witch too, if anyone else is actually interested!
All in all a GREAT episode! It’s mostly just a flashback that adds to the characterization and backstory of our cast, casting new depth on the choices they’ve made. It hurts to see Raine and Eda call themselves inseparable, when we know what happened… When we know how Lilith curses Eda, having no idea she’s inflicting the power of the Collector on her sister, and not just a one-day gimmick from the night market! Speaking of which, I find it hilarious how Bump frets about Eda selling stuff on the night market, and while it’s not the NIGHT market, that happens anyhow!
I love it; Seeing Eda work so hard to gain this place in the coven… Only to realize by these efforts that she doesn’t actually want it, paradoxically and ironically enough! Also, I guess this means Raine isn’t the kid who stole Lilith’s lunch money… But then again they allude to financial struggles, so maybe they were? And this added to Lilith’s resentment, while Eda DID clash with Raine over this, but they got over it quickly as friends??? This could potentially be a change of plans, early-planning gets moved around a bit, but I wonder. Also, were these reports actually written by Faust then??? Love the appropriate irony of the human from that devil-deal story being the devil here…
So yeah; Not only do we get some rich worldbuilding and look into the past, a better understanding of how society was like –the covenscouts seem a lot more chill which suggests Terra and the others REALLY ramped up the extremities later down the line, like in real life- and also a look into dynamics… While also setting up a reveal in the present-day, that has HUGE implications for the plot and future as well! And likewise, it’s not just this flashbacks that recontextualizes; The present does as well, because now we re-examine Raine’s interactions with Terra, actions as a Coven Head three episodes ago, and maybe even back in their official debut! Amazing writing y’all. It’s so LAYERED…!

”I must go now. My planet needs me.” -King, probably
(what's that under the collector's bed? i freaked out a little bit when I first saw it, because I thought it was philip, but nah, it looks like another stuffed animal. but can you imagine the kind of damage philip could do if he managed to possess the collector??)
Tumblr media
As the space cherub and his island-in-training best friend take a break from their game of pretend, we cut to Boscha, who’s right in the middle of her own game of pretend. She is playing at being emperor. The school is her castle, and the gym is her throne room, complete with masked soldiers standing guard. She’s even got a special guard standing by her side, one with a shoulder pad on only one shoulder.
You know, when Kikimora said she wanted to be the new Golden Guard, I don’t think this is what she had in mind.
Because that’s Kikimora, right? It’s got to be, and the big guy is her Abomatron.
Speaking of Kikimora, I was cleaning up my desk a little while back when I found a note I had written and then completely forgot about, I think it might’ve been in response to an ask I got but never answered. The note read as thus:
”It’s ironic that Kikimora wanted to be the Golden Guard, seeing as the only privilege afforded the Golden Guard is that Belos will kill you personally, a courtesy he did not extend to Kikimora… and it came back to haunt him.”
(except with more misspellings)
Tumblr media
I gotta admit, as far as false names goes, Miki and Roka are kinda funny. We love a good word scramble. Actually, I don’t, I’m no good at those. This one wasn’t so hard because I knew the answer.
The thing I’m wondering though is how Kiki managed to fit that weird hand on her head under that wig.
The idea of Boscha taking them in after ”the incident” is reminiscent of the false backstory given the Golden Guard in season two.
I should probably also mention that Kiki-I’m sorry, I meant ”Miki.” When Jerbo was putting forth his plans to make things not suck for everyone, Miki interjected, saying that doing so would take up her time… and implying that without the constant protection of ”Miki” and ”Roka,” Boscha would be turned into a puppet and collected as well.
Tumblr media
YO, is she gonna try to recreate the teleportation circle Philip used in Elsewhere and Elsewhen?!? See, I told you guys, I told you! I told you it’d be so cool if Luz or Lilith memorized it and used it, and no they’re doing it!
I mean, hopefully. Weeeeell… aside from the possibility that the teleportation circle will just outright fail (there was what, some twenty glyphs to it?), Kikimora might also have some objections. She might still have a grudge towards Hunter, for one thing. Or all the kids, for all the trouble they’ve caused her.
Tumblr media
I dunno about you guys, but this is giving me Hollow Mind vibes. In the sense that I’m gonna spend way too long squinting at paintings in the background. I’ll be somewhat brief, because as per usual, I’ll probably get a better look at at least some of them in a sec.
Let’s see, what do we have here…
On the right side of the screen (King’s left) it appears to be mostly depictions of various space-related things. There is one with a shooting star or meteorite about to hit a planet’s surface, which might be the Collectors arriving at this world
The left side of the screen (King’s right) is where things get interesting. Going from closest to the screen to furthest away, we have…
A painting of three Collectors looking at what I assume is a depiction of the Demon Realm planet. There is a wee little collector coming up to them. This one is, aside from being smaller than the others, purple, where the others are blue. The little one is obviously supposed to be The Collector, our little Lord of the Fireflies.
The next painting shows two collectors holding and trying on Titan skulls. In the background is either a Titan, a Titan trapper, or the third collector disguised as a Titan.
The third painting looks an awful lot like the mural we saw way back in Echoes of the Past. If we go by the ”collector dressed as a Titan” theory in the previous paragraph, then this painting might be depicting that collector in combat against a Titan. At the feet of the Titan is an egg, and we can see the head of a smaller Titan. So far, this seems to fall in line with the theory I put forth a little while ago, about the Titan Trappers worshipping not THE Collector, our Prince of Plastic, but another collector. One who gave them the idea of dressing up like their prey.
The fourth painting shows the three big collectors throwing away the littlest collector.
The fifth painting shows the little collector surrounded by baby Titans. D’aw!
The sixth… I really can’t tell, but I think I can see the three faces of the three tall collectors. Maybe it’s them leaving this planet and choosing to abandon the little one.

Reunion with a Clawthorne
Afraid of a baseball bat with nails sticking out of it? A worse nightmare was swinging through the night air.
After Luz's return became public knowledge, she had been hunted on her way back to the manor. Fortunately, she liked to travel lightly.
She showed off her baseball bat, with the bonus of glyphs. Plant, ice, and fire made for a good equalizer. Just as well, her magic came back soon after handling the guerillas. Neatly tied up for the "New Coven", without killing anyone.
This seemed to earn points with Amity. Finally, Noceda received an invitation to the Owl house. A leisurely walk through the woods, at night. What could be more exciting for the young girl?
Luz: "This is it. Gotta be cool."
The demon door was the first to greet her.
Hooty(excitedly): "Luz!"
Luz(smiling): "Hooty!"
The owl creature head butted her, right in the face.
Hooty: "Your little friend said that was a human hello, hoot hoot!"
Luz(still trying to smile): "Maybe *smack* you could *smack*..."
Raising a finger, she paralyzed him before he could strike again.
Luz(wincing): " Happy to catch up again, Hooty."
Releasing him, she went on to the pleasantries waiting inside for her.
Amity: "Luz."
Luz: "Amity!"
Boscha(sneering): "Human."
Luz: "Bruja!"
This is fine.
Luz: "What's she doing here?"
Amity: "She was invited, just like you."
Luz: "You invited her?"
Boscha: "Actually, my new teacher did!"
Boscha pulled up a scroll, wickedly smiling.
Boscha: "Here she comes now!"
Stepping from the hall, a witch with a grey eye met Luz's gaze. The single long grey streak in her hair had grown since last time.
Lilth: "Luz, welcome back to the owl house."
There was no warmth in her voice.
Luz: "Where's Eda?!"
Lilth: "My sister refuses to see you.
Luz(beginning to glow): "Liar!"
Before anything could happen, Amity grabbed Luz's hand.
Lilith: "It's the truth."
Boscha walked over, showing the scroll. The footage of the dance hall was ready. Zooming into a window in the background, a small bird could be seen.
Owlbert.
No way Eda didn't know she was back, now. And she hadn't made any move to contact her since.
Finally calming down, she sat in a familiar couch.
Luz: "So, why am I here?"
Lilith: "Perhaps you would care to explain how you returned, first?"
Luz: "..."
Lilith: "*sigh* my former protege asked this of me."
Amity: "Lilith has been trying to get rid of Eda's curse. And, for better or worse, Boscha knows her way around potions. I figured we might be able to suppress the empress, just like she managed the owl beast. An elixir to give us some peace of mind."
Boscha( holding a brown bottle): "Here's one I've been working on. Go on, try it."
Luz eyed the concoction. Her hand still wasn't released yet. Brown eyes peered into amber ones. Where were the days when Amity couldn't be this close?
She reached with her free hand and downed the bottle. She fought the biggest urge to throw up. Eyes red and watery, she tried to smile, nice and tough.
Luz: "There! Now, what?"
Lilith: "Now, Miss Blight should observe how the elixir was made. Boscha, take her to your notes."
Boscha( grumbling): "Fine."
And with that, Luz's hand was finally released.
Boscha(under her breath): "Damn, you were supposed to puke!"
Lilith was alone with the human. These two had tried to kill each other, once. Now, one of them had something to say.
Lilith: "She made that with the sole purpose of causing you nausea. It isn't the remedy for what Miss Blight has in mind."
No reply.
Lilith: " I've been briefed on your situation. But I would like to discuss something to the ailing."
Luz stood as the Clawthorne sister tried to sit down.
Luz: "What?"
Lilith: "Not you, the other one."
With a quick glance at the hall, Luz began to shine. Eyes and finger locked on, Lilith remained unfazed.
Empress: "I won't miss. Not with you at point blank range."
Lilith: "It's unbecoming to waste time with dreadful bluffs."
Scowling, the empress lowered her finger. They were three feet apart. But they might as well have been three miles.
Empress: "What's the evidence?"
Lilith: "I served emperor Belos for years. I know what it is to stand in the same room with a lethal creature. You have the presence of a monster about you.
However Luz Noceda loves Amity Blight. My former protege reciprocates those feelings. But you- you are plotting something. I remain on top of current events. If you killed me, she would never trust you again. You'd lose her- forever! So, for the time being, Noceda is our human test subject. She will drink whatever we present... for Miss Blight. All in the hopes of ridding you.
I wanted to be the one to inform you."
The red began to disappear on her skin. But her eyes remained as they were, as she placed two fingers gently on Lilith's forehead.
Empress( smiling) : "It feels good, doesn't it? Being in a position of power. I'm not going to kill you"
The glow in Luz's eyes vanished.
Luz: "I can promise you that."
Footsteps were heard approaching.
Amity: "Everyone's still alive in here, right?"
Lilith was pulled into a head butt, by the girl in front of her.
Luz: "Yep! Just returning a favor."
The visit drew to a close. Eda's sister whispered something to Amity.
Lilth: "I think she really does love you."
Luz saw but couldn't hear what she'd said. However, her company seemed flustered by whatever it was.
Amity rewarded Luz with hand holding, on their walk back.
Tonight, everyone left with their lives. But now, a cold war was declared.

Luz’s time in the Boiling Isles?
Building off of a previous post, we know that Eda only sells human garbage on weekends; Otherwise, she sells potions during the week. With this incredibly vital piece of information, let’s analyze the timeline of each episode, and calculate once and for all; How long has Luz been on the Boiling Isles? Keep in mind… I’m only calculating the minimum amount of time, because the possibility for entire days and even weeks passing between episodes isn’t out of the question; But given how Luz is operating on limited time before she heads back home when summer ends…
For now, let’s just try not to assume anything, and work with only the actual evidence we have; So unless stated otherwise, we’re operating on the assumption that a minimum amount of time takes place between episodes, unless proof states otherwise! Because we know as of the Season Finale that Camila doesn’t yet expect Luz to be back from Reality Check Camp, and Luz expresses no concerns about an impending deadline; Ergo, we’re working with as little time as possible, while still leaving some room here or there…
A Lying Witch and a Warden takes place on a BI Sunday, because Eda is selling human trash, and the very next day it’s potions! Witches before Wizards, by this logic, takes place on the BI Monday right after!
Next comes I was a Teenage Abomination; We know it’s on a school day, so it’s likely the same week as WbW. Then there’s The Intruder; Willow is briefly seen at the beginning wearing her casual outfit. There’s no indication of what time of day it is when this all happens, and we know from Really Small Problems that Willow can and has worn her casual outfit the morning before changing into her uniform for the school day; Regardless, even if it was a weekday or a BI Saturday, it doesn’t matter. Because immediately afterwards…
…We have Covention! THAT opens with Eda, Luz, and King selling human garbage, so it’s officially been a full week since Luz has arrived! Happy one-week anniversary, I guess…? Regardless, we segway into Hooty’s Moving Hassle; The trio are hanging around at the Owl House instead of selling stuff, and only head into Bonesborough to get more elixirs for Eda’s curse. Coupled with how Willow and Gus arrive wearing their school uniforms, it’s safe to say the opening scenes take place after-school on a week day.
Lost in Language! This one is SUPER helpful, because Emira, bless her, outright says that Covention happened last week; Given how this episode takes place over the course of a day, and yet Amity is at the library instead of school (and she would NEVER skip class), it’s obviously a weekend. It’s worth noting that Eda and King aren’t selling human trash on this day, but that’s likely because the Bat Queen had just dropped off her kids that morning, so it was just a change of plans.
Next is Once Upon a Swap; We start with the gang selling human trash again. It’s possible a full week has transpired, and we’ve jumped into the next weekend… Or, LiL happened on a BI Saturday, and OUaS is a Sunday (which means the same day Eda woke up to find the Bat Queen’s children missing, she switched everyone’s bodies). We know that Amity is Top Student for a reason; You don’t get that position by being a slow reader. Coupled with how she’s an avid fan of The Good Witch Azura, it’s likely that she finishes the book Luz gave her sooner, rather than later… So for now, LiL and OUaS happen back-to-back, one day after the other! That, or LiL begins after-school on Friday… Regardless, it’s still only been two weeks since Luz arrived!
Now, I know that you might be thinking- At the end of OUaS, Hooty says it’s time for his Monthly Cleaning, and yet earlier that day Luz shows disgust about having to clean him; Implying she’s participated in a previous monthly cleaning! And to that I say… NO, that doesn’t necessarily mean that. All it means is that Luz knows Hooty is filthy and thus dreads the idea of having to clean him. It doesn’t necessarily point to her having been part in a previous monthly cleaning. So for now, it’s just been two weeks.
Something Ventured, Someone Framed is a school day, obviously. Then we have Escape of the Palisman; Presumably another school day, because a school game takes place and we see Willow and other students in their school uniforms! Gus is wearing a sweater over his, but otherwise; EotP probably takes place on a BI Friday! So THREE weeks have passed!
Then comes Sense and Insensitivity; It starts on a weekend because human trash is being sold, but what’s interesting is that it takes place over the course of a few days, as Eda says she’ll be gone for that amount of time; Not to mention, even with magic, it’d likely take time for King to have Ruler’s Reach edited, printed, advertised, and gain an avid fanbase. In addition to people already expecting a sequel announcement, and how a few days is usually by minimum three… It’s likely that this episode extends into the week as well. We see Boscha and a few other Hexside student in their school uniforms, but this can easily be explained as either happening after-school, as well as the fact that there’s not much of a reason to go and design a bunch of unique, casual outfits for some background characters; Boscha and her friends are also seen in their school uniforms during Once Upon a Swap, which IS a weekend.
(Now this raises the question; If this happened over a few days, what was Luz doing before King invited her? Well… she was all alone, typing her story by herself, sad because her friend ditched her for a few days. 😢)
Next is Adventures in the Elements! We have no indication on when a Trash Day is, and what’s the logic behind it, if there’s any consistent scheduling, etc. It doesn’t really matter though; We immediately see Amity in her casual attire, and later that day she and the twins are practicing magic on the Knee. It’s safe to say that this is a weekend, and/or…
Remember what I said earlier, about how SaI likely extended into the week? Well, if it’s a weekend already… Then that implies an entire WEEK has passed between SaI and AitE! And, remember… In SVSF, Principal Bump mentions that Luz will go to Hexside when the next semester starts; We don’t know how semesters work in the Boiling Isles school system. For all we know, they’re more akin to a six-week grading period if anything else (even if they don’t last as long).
That being said, the idea that there’s a full week of no school between semesters is also possible… We don’t know if summer vacation is a thing on the Boiling Isles, so perhaps a whole week off between semesters compensates for this? That, or there is no compensation, period, given how the school system in the Boiling Isles is clearly flawed and spends emphasis on molding children into obedient workers.
For now, I’m inclined to say that a week has passed between SaI and AitE… But if one considers that Amity is still reading Azura when this all happens, then that means it’s taken her two weeks to finish the book; That, or she finished the book within a few days and didn’t have the chance to meet up with Luz until two weeks later. Amity IS the Top Student, so combined with her parents’ pressure, she may not have a very open schedule; Which could also drag out her time reading Azura.
That might seem like a stretch in more than just the temporal way, so I’ll keep an open mind; It’s worth noting that if I AM right and there’s a full week of no school, then it’s not out of the question for AitE to have taken place on a weekday. The fact that Amity isn’t going to school, and yet Eda doesn’t seem to be having any plans to sell human garbage prior to Luz’s request to be taught a second spell (she’s at home trying to cook sentient vegetables), indicates this ISN’T a weekend, but a weekday with no school.
My point is, if SaI started on a Saturday at minimum (because Eda is selling human trash), and a few days have passed… Then it doesn’t make sense for Amity to be wearing casual clothes and not going to school, UNLESS a full week has passed, or there isn’t school for a week (or maybe a day, but this is between semesters too). An entire week has to have passed either way, because it doesn’t make much sense for a semester to end and begin within the same week; Regardless, it’s only a one-week difference when we ultimately tally up Luz’s time on the Boiling Isles, as of the Season 1 finale.
(Mind you, it could all just be a continuity error; But that’s no fun, is it!)
The next episode is The First Day… Very clearly a BI Monday, unless it started on a Tuesday for whatever reason; Regardless, it’s during the school week, and likely early into it! Next is Really Small Problems, which would’ve been a school day- But Boscha’s pet pixies caused class to be cancelled. Then Understanding Willow has Luz and her friends at school… Followed by Enchanting Grom Fright! EGF likely takes place by the end of the week, as that’s usually when such formal occasions happen; Keep in mind, at least two whole days pass during this episode, one at school, and the other when Amity is training Luz on her fears! It’s possible this training period happens after-school, especially given how she mentions that they have no more time left once it ends. So EGF potentially starts on a BI Thursday, before ending on a Friday night. Either way, the week has ended- That’s FIVE weeks, baby!
Now, we go into Wing it like Witches! It’s the very beginning of Grudgby Season, so I think it’s a safe assumption to say that this episode takes place on a BI Monday- So it’s the next week after Grom. This episode comes and goes across the span of a day, not much else to say here. Then we have Agony of a Witch… What’s interesting is that in the previous episode, Lilith mentions how she WILL be back to capture Eda, and how she alludes to Belos getting impatient. Not only that, but Amity’s leg is still broken in Agony of a Witch, too…
We know that witches have access to healing magic, and that Amity is using a Healing Glyph to speed up her recovery. Grudgby Cards released as supplementary material to the episode allude to witches having regenerative abilities- With or without this possibility, we can assume that Amity is going to heal sooner rather than later because of magic, in addition to Lilith likely intending to capture Eda ASAP as Belos’ patience wears thin. We know AoaW takes place during a school day as well, as this is when Luz has a field trip to Belos’ castle… With all that in mind, we can probably infer this episode as having happened later that same week that Amity broke her leg. The day ends with Luz walking back home across the Boiling Isles by herself, on-foot, the ENTIRE way back to the Owl House… And then sunrise, meaning Luz has been walking for the whole night… 🥺
…And then we have Young Blood, Old Souls- Our long-awaited Season Finale! Considering what Luz, Lilith, and Belos all have at stake here… It doesn’t make much sense for them to wait an entire day before getting along their respective business with Eda; And with how the scenes are framed, it’s all but said that YBOS takes place the day after the field trip… So right after Luz arrived back at the Owl House at the end of AoaW that morning, she barely got any time to rest before she changed into her regular clothes and enacted her rescue mission, that same day! Jeez… Luz must’ve been EXHAUSTED by the end of the episode, and coupled with the relief of finally rescuing Eda in the end- She deserves a nice long rest!
Young Blood, Old Souls takes place across an entire day… I can’t tell if it’s a school day or not, because- Willow and Gus ARE shown in their casual outfits during the episode… But they were also seen wearing their casual outfits the morning of RSP, right before they planned to head to school, only to find out it was cancelled. We also see other Hexside Students in this episode, but they’re always depicted with their uniforms on, school day or not. Even if it were a school day, I can see Belos making a special occasion to cancel school so he can have everyone gather for his petrification of Eda… And there’s also the chance that by the time we see Willow and Gus, their school day has already ended, and everything’s happening in the evening.
(If so, then this leaves room for Luz having at least had a decent nap and meal before going off to rescue Eda, the poor girl.)
Regardless… We know that Agony of a Witch and Young Blood, Old Souls happen back-to-back, right after one another, across the span of exactly two days; From the morning of one day, to nighttime of the next. Because Amity’s leg is still broken despite having the Healing Glyph applied as of the Season Finale… We can probably assume that the final two episodes happen sooner rather than later; So it’s likely that our last two episodes of Season 1 occur later in the same week as WilW. Regardless of whether or not the season finale is on a weekend or a BI Friday; It’s basically been about a week, for all intents and purposes. So then our last three episodes of Season 1 happen across Luz’s sixth week at the Boiling Isles, by minimum.
So, to round it up; Luz has been in the Boiling Isles for SIX WEEKS at minimum, potentially longer; Maybe five, if my calculations about an entire week passing between Sense and Insensitivity and The First Day are wrong. Potentially as little as FOUR, if I’m also wrong about Lost in Language and Once Upon a Swap happening back-to-back! So, 4-6 Weeks by minimum, with my estimations leaning into the latter number. We know that Luz is supposed to be at the Reality Check Camp for presumably the entire summer… So that’s about three months; Six weeks is about a month and a half, so about halfway through Luz’s intended time away from home, before she was supposed to return- And in line with Luz not showing any concern about having to leave the Boiling Isles, anytime soon. Luz has a decent amount of time before summer ends, and Camila realizes that her kid is missing!
Of course, we don’t know how long it’ll be between Seasons 1 and 2, how much time will occur across Season 2; And there’s always the possibility of Camila suspecting that something is up before Reality Check Camp is bound to end, because Luz is no longer responding to her texts. We also don’t know how things are going on the end of whoever is impersonating Luz with those letters, and how they’d be affected by the portal’s destruction, if at all… For all we know, there might even be a doppelganger of Luz that’ll be sent in her place, by the time she’s supposed to return from Reality Camp! And that’s not even taking into account the possibility of Luz finding her way back home before Reality Camp ends…
Regardless of how things will happen in the future, as of now; I think Luz has been on the Boiling Isles for six weeks by minimum. There’s still room and possibility for additional weeks to have occurred between certain episodes and more ambiguous time frames- Not to mention the idea of Boiling Isles weeks being structured differently from ours… Maybe they have more days or less- We’ve seen a calendar or two in the background that could point in either direction, but nothing outright definitive. And even if weeks were shorter/longer, there’s the consideration of how long each day/night lasts, and how that’ll overlap with Earth time… So Luz’s stay COULD be shorter/longer than the equivalent of six Earth weeks, who can say? Though for the sake of simplicity and everyone’s sanity, I wouldn’t be shocked if Dana and the crew decided that Boiling Isles time runs concurrent with Earth time, for the most part.
Whether or not I’m correct, I think it does put into some perspective how much time Luz has spent at the Owl House, and the bonds, relationships, and growth she’s experienced during her stay! It definitely helps you appreciate what Luz and the others have accomplished, and how far their journey has progressed together- That this really is a summer that has changed Luz’s life more fundamentally, more succinctly across a shorter span of time, than most of her life… And it becomes clear just how impactful Luz’s second home and found family in the Boiling Isles is to her, and vice-versa!
Because Luz hasn’t just been changed- She’s changed OTHERS, from Eda, to King… Willow, Gus, Amity- And she’s even instated quite a bit of change in the Boiling Isles itself, changing up Hexside’s curriculum and planting the seeds of a rebellion against Belos; In addition to rediscovering Glyphs, and how that can really change what it means to be a Witch going forward- Because now, it seems the role of ‘Witch’ has become much more inclusive once more, thanks to Luz! Dredging up the ancient past, while influencing the present and future so immensely across such a relatively brief period of time; Luz really is such a cryptid and outside-context anomaly to the Boiling Isles, befitting someone who comes from another reality entirely!
