The kiss prompt had me feeling too much like a kid in a candy store, and I couldn't pick. I managed to narrow it down to three, hopefully one of them sparks joy?
…as a suggestion.
…after a small rejection.
…because they’re running out of time.
for buddie please 🩶
:D thank you! i went for 'a kiss after a small rejection', hope you enjoy!

Buck has been extremely supportive of Eddie's dating woes, in his opinion. He has been a good friend about it, listening sympathetically to the post-game of every date that fizzled out and every connection that failed to manifest. After Marisol, there was Raquel, and then Marta, and María, and Janelle. Then, maybe less shocking than it would have been a couple of years ago, there was Daniel, and Liam, and Álvaro. Eddie told him about the first of those dates with a glint in his eye that dared Buck to comment, so Buck didn't.
But it means that they're currently in this weird holding pattern where Buck knows that Eddie likes men, and—maybe more relevantly—is willing to consider dating a man, and they still haven't actually talked about it.
That's a conversation that should probably happen. Buck just doesn't know how to bring it up without immediately blurting everything out, without begging Eddie to consider him as an option. And if he does that, there's no coming back from it. If he does that, and Eddie says no, he doesn't know what'll happen. The world will end, or he'll die of mortification and disappointment, or something else unspeakably awful will occur. Maddie keeps telling him that he's catastrophizing, and he knows she's probably right, but that doesn't mean he can just make himself stop.
He's working on it.
Right now, Eddie is flopped across Buck's new couch—brown leather, wide and squashy and comfortable. Natalia helped him pick it out, and he feels a little weird about keeping it now, but the truth is that the couch turned out to be a better fit than the relationship. It's big enough for the two of them to sprawl on while they drink their beers and Eddie grumbles about his most recent date.
"I mean, you know, it was fine. Whatever," he says, with a huffy little shrug. Buck loves Eddie in every mood, but there's something especially charming about him when he's being petulant like this. Maybe because it's such a contrast to the calm, in-control face he presents to the rest of the world. Buck's not the only person who gets to have this part of Eddie, but he is a member of a select group.
"So no second date?" he asks, trying not to sound hopeful.
"He said I was 'a nice guy, but he didn't feel a connection'," Eddie says, with sarcastic one-handed finger-quotes. He takes another sullen pull on his beer.
"That's not so bad," Buck offers. Eddie's dates don't usually crash and burn the way Buck's have a tendency to, or did back when he was actually trying to date. People like Eddie. He's polite and kind and thoughtful, and reserved in a way that comes across as mysterious and fascinating instead of aloof. And that's without even getting into the fact that he looks like a fucking model, but most people know that part before they go out with him. Buck has no idea how anybody could go on a date with Eddie and not immediately fall head over heels in love with him, but he is admittedly a little biased.
"Yeah, I know," Eddie sighs. He pushes himself upright and tilts his head back against the couch, cradling his beer between his palms. "I know, it's not like I really wanted a second date either. It's just…"
"Rejection sucks?" Buck offers.
"That too. Mostly I'm just wondering how long I'm going to have to keep doing this before I find somebody I can have a connection with? Like, with Shannon, it was—"
"—bolt of lightning out of the blue?" Buck asks, because that was how it felt for him, with Eddie. That moment outside the ambulance, Eddie's blinding smile and warm handshake and the way something in him cracked wide open then and never really went away.
Eddie huffs. "Kind of. But—we were friends first. We already had that connection. You know? And then one day I looked at her and I felt like—"
He stops abruptly. If Buck wasn't already watching him, he'd probably miss the way Eddie's eyes flick toward him, and then away.
His stomach feels suddenly like he's on a rollercoaster, in giddy freefall.
"Like you were seeing something completely new?" he asks. He folds his hand tight around his beer, but he can feel it trembling.
Eddie takes a deep, visible breath, then nods and leans forward to set his beer down before turning back toward Buck.
"Yeah," he says quietly, and Buck is almost completely sure that they're not just talking about Shannon anymore. Eddie's face is open, his gaze clear, but Buck knows him well enough to detect the faint hint of nerves there.
That's the thing that finally gives him the courage to do what maybe he should have a long time ago.
"Can you just, uh." He clears his throat, then sets his beer down too. "Tell me if I'm totally misreading this?"
"Yeah, okay," Eddie whispers, but he doesn't pull back. Not when Buck shifts closer on the couch; not when he reaches out to settle a hand on Eddie's cheek, and not when he leans in to press a chaste, careful kiss to Eddie's lips.
It lingers softly for a moment, and then he pulls back and opens his eyes. Eddie blinks a couple of times, then smiles, sudden and bright.
"You're not misreading it," he says, and leans in to kiss Buck again.

How can y’all wax poetically about how much Buck and Eddie have affected each others lives for the better and then be pissed when in a DREAM Buck imagines the impact of them never meeting. And like the impact was extremely significant, literally life altering for Eddie. And it’s not like they said he just gave up on Chris, he LOST him, in a hard fought custody battle. But without a support system of any kind things don’t go your way sometimes. Judges tend to look down on single dads with demanding jobs with ptsd who weren’t present for part of a child’s life even if it was to make a living serving your country. Eddie picked up and moved to LA with the hopes of finding a new and better life for Christopher. The only preexisting support system he has in LA is Pepa and Abuela and it’s literally shown in season 2 how watching Chris full time while Eddie works isn’t feasible for them. And it’s shown in the story that without the 118 in its current state Eddie wouldn’t have his team to lean on to help take care of Christopher. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much you love or care, sometimes the deck is truly stacked up against you in an insurmountable way. Also once again this is Buck’s subconscious, when Eddie lost Buck during the lawsuit he literally started street fighting, angry guy is not that far off, especially since Christopher is the most important thing in the world to Eddie, I’d be angry too.

pyjamas for the soft prompts <3
I don`t know how it happened, but here 1784 words👉👈
Thank you for the prompt dear, I hope you will love it 💜💜💜💜💜
We are family (let`s buy pajamas to prove it)
A week. Eddie tried to find the perfect way to ask Buck to marry him for a week. It should be something cute and romantic, but also something only for them.Big romantic gestures are amazing, but Eddie feels like he needs it to be something quiet and domestic.
So while Buck has a shift without him, he searches for the best idea on the Internet. But the last two hours gave him nothing except anxiety.
“Dad!” Chris` scream near his ear scares him, and he almost drops his laptop. Chris smiles at it. “I called you five times. What are you doing?” the boy sits near him and tries to look at his screen.
His son looks at him and Eddie sees what people mean when they say he has Eddie`s expressive face and sassiness. Chris looks at him like he's an idiot and he is tired of him.
“I - i`m looking for ideas for a surprise for Buck, bud,” Chris' face changes to confused.
“But there are no holidays soon. Why do you need such a special surprise that you missed five times I called you to ask if you want tea or not?” his son talks with him like he's a child, and Eddie feels worse than before. But maybe Chris will help him. Eddie wants it to be domestic, and Chris should be a part of it.
“I`m preparing a surprise for Buck because I want to ask him to marry me,” Eddie sees how Chris` mouth opens wild and starts to regret his choice to buy a ring before this talk. And maybe he should have prepared Chris better. “But If you have problems with it…,” Eddie doesn't have time to end it because his son hugs him tight.
“I want it, dad. God, I`ve been waiting years for you two to get together and I actually couldn't wait for your wedding anymore. I was this close,” he shows Eddie almost connected forefinger and thumb, “to buy a ring for Buck myself and ask him. Or find adoption papers and make him sign it,” Chris laughs and Eddie joins him. But Eddie feels like his son actually could do it.
“So, you support me,” it means a world to Eddie. Chris and Buck two half of his heart and the way they create their own connection always make Eddie melt into a puddle of love to them.
“Yes dad. I want you to be happy. I want Buck to be happy. We are family and I really want it to be official too. And I want a wedding. Maddie and Chim`s wedding was cool. I liked it.”
Eddie laughs at it.
“Well, I hope our wedding with Buck you will like more. Especially because you are going to be my best man,” another tight hug surprises Eddie again, but he is always ready to accept affection from his teenage son. God knows Chris is “too cool” for affection now and Eddie cherishes every moment he can take.
“Thank you, dad,” Chris pulls away from him. “Ok, I think I have an idea. I saw it when I was looking for a present for Buck`s birthday,” boy opens the site of the shop. “We can buy those two pajamas for Buck and ask him to marry you and adopt me tomorrow,” Chris shows him two pajamas. One with “best husband ever” on it, and the other one with “ Best. Dad. Ever!”
“We can pick it up at the store in the morning, buy a takeaway breakfast at Buck's favorite cafe and ask Buck after breakfast. What do you think?” Chris looks at him and Eddie looks back with a huge smile. His son created the perfect proposal.
“I think you just made a perfect idea which I tried to find for hours. Let's buy pajamas now,” they do it and go to make tea and watch something on TV.
Chris sits a little closer to him on the couch than usual, and Eddie enjoys a quiet family evening, but can't resist contacting the missing person. He takes a selfie of him and Chris and sends it to Buck.
Miss you tonight :(
We are going to buy takeout from your favorite cafe in the morning <3
Buck doesn't answer and Eddie thinks he is on a call. Half an hour later Chris starts to fall asleep so they both go to beds.
Miss you two too :(
Sorry for not answering soon
We were at big fire till 2am
Can`t wait for breakfast with my family <3
Eddie sees the answer in the morning and smiles brightly. Buck is going to be home soon and Eddie and Chris will ask him to become their family officially.
Eddie and Chris take pajamas and buy breakfast. When they come back they can see Buck`s jeep and both smiles bright.
“We are home,” they both say after entering the house. They go to the living room and leave their present on the coffee table. Eddie then takes their breakfast to the kitchen and comes back to see how Buck comes from the bedroom in sweatpants and a T-shirt with a sleepy smile and a little bit wet hair with curls already forming. Eddie thinks he looks so beautiful.
“Hey you two,” Buck runs his hand through Chris's curls to which the teenager lets out an offended scream and the men laugh. He kisses Eddie next. “Missed you two so much,” he says, hugging Eddie around the waist tight, and Eddie copies his action.
“We missed you, too,” Eddie says and kisses Buck`s birthmark. Chris makes gagging noises in the background. “Yes, we know you hate how affectionate we are, young man, go wash your hands and let's eat.”
Chris just goes to the bathroom leaving them together. Buck and Eddie still hold each other and don't want to let go. They spend a minute like that and then Buck breaks the silence.
“What have you two bought?” he nods to the coffee table.
“We will show you after breakfast. Now let`s go. I'm starving,” Eddie takes Buck by the hand and leads him to the kitchen.
The breakfast is wonderful. They talk and joke. When breakfast is done and Eddie cleaned the kitchen he decides it`s the time.
“Ok, we have presents for you, so let's go open them.”
They go to the living room and Chris and Buck sit on the couch while Eddie in front of them on the coffee table.
“Did I forget about any holiday?” Buck asks with a smile, but Eddie can see little nervousness in his eyes.
Eddie puts his hand on Buck`s knee and smiles at his boyfriend, “No, you didn't forget anything. Chris and I just wanted to ask you something and bought you little presents.”
Buck nods at his words.
Chris takes one box and gives it to Buck with a smile. Buck opens it and freezes for a second then he carefully runs his finger over the letters on the T-shirt and turns to Chris then to Eddie. He shifts his gaze between the two of them and the T-shirt for a minute, but then turns his body so that he can see them both.
“Is- is that what I think it is?” Buck says quietly, with so much hope in his voice and Eddie can see tears in his eyes. Eddie just nods, but not saying anything. It's Chris` question.
“Yes, Buck. You have been my dad for many years. You make me and dad happy. You are our family and I want you to be my dad officially,” Chris smiles tricky. “Evan Buckley, will you adopt me?”
Eddie makes a laugh at the way his son asked it, but then he feels tears in his eyes when Buck hugs their son tight and repeats “yes” in his hair. Buck pulls back and smiles at the two of them.
“Yes, Chris. I will adopt you,” Buck says to Chris, but then turns to Eddie and Eddie can see so much love in his eyes. “Thank you. You two make me happy too. I really love our little family.”
“You don't have to thank us for this. And we love you too, Buck,” Eddie says and passes him the next box. “I have a present, too.”
Buck opens it and now he is really crying. He looks at Eddie, but Eddie is already on his knee and a box with a ring in his hand. He smiles at Buck.
“Evan Buck Buckley, you make me the happiest man every day. You came to my life and made it brighter and easier. You saw me struggling and came in to help me. You let me do the same for you. You`re my partner in everything, my best friend and love of my life. I love everything about you. Even the things you hate. I love the way you love Chris. We have been a family longer than we both know and now I want it to be official. Will you marry me?”
Eddie barely can end his question when he feels Buck kisses him.
“Yes. Eddie, yes,” Buck pulls away from his lips for a second, but then kisses him again. “I love you two so much,” Buck cries and hugs Eddie`s shoulders. Eddie hugs him tight too.
Eddie pulls away and takes Buck with him. They sit on the couch and Eddie puts the ring on Buck`s finger.
“Perfect,” Eddie says with a smile and kisses Buck`s finger.
Next day Eddie comes to the bedroom from the shower and stops for a second. Buck has new pajamas.
“Is that the way you ask about taking my last name?” Eddie approaches the bed with a big smile forming on his lips reading “So I'm stealing his last name” on Buck's T-shirt again and again.
“Yes. I figured it's the way we do it in our family,” Buck smiles. “I want to be just Mr. Diaz, not Buckley-Diaz, if you are ok with it.”
“I am. I want it too,” Eddie can't wait to make him Evan Diaz. Partly because of the Buckleys and his opinion about them, but partly because imagining Buck calls himself Mr. Diaz and other people do it, well, it makes Eddie feel fire in his body. He can't wait to see Diaz on Buck`s uniform.
“Can I kiss you future Mr. Diaz?” Eddie makes an emphasis in the last part and sees fire in Buck`s eyes.
It looks like he is not the only one who loves it so much. Good thing Chris is on a sleepover.

I find Bobby’s talk with Buck in 6x01 and his talk with Eddie in 6x14 really fascinating because once again they sort of parallel and reinforce the paralleled arcs of Buck and Eddie this season, which I believe is heading in one direction. Which I discussed here.
In 6x01 Bobby tells Buck he needs more life experience to be ready to be interim captain and Buck immediately replies ‘is this because I don’t have a couch?’ Once again referencing his couch metaphor for relationships. Buck sees having a stable relationship as something that counts towards life experience, but as he tells Bobby he’s ‘afraid of making a mistake again’ because he’s had too many failed relationships and he doesn’t really know where to look for the right one (despite the fact it’s literally under his nose).
Bobby gives him advice about taking inventory on his life and that ‘one day you’ll be able to look at it with peace and ease’ which is what kick starts his ‘at ease’ and ‘secret to happiness’ questioning. This, however, was also abruptly ended when he died because as much Buck tries to gloss over it when people bring it up, his death is clearly affecting him and he needs to break down, accept what happened so that he can heal and move on. Then once this happens he can accept the support from others, and finally open his eyes to the person who has loved him and given him stability for so long and be at ease with him and with his life. Maybe even on a couch together. And just live. Then one day, he will be prepared to take on the position of Captain- just not yet and that’s okay because some things take time (like making a family and a love so powerful with your best friend).
Where as in 6x14, during Eddie’s performance review from Bobby, Eddie’s ego is badly hit by being rejected despite him not even wanting to go on the date. Bobby tells him his work performance is outstanding to revert his attention and that he performs well there, but suggests that he ‘find the right work life balance.’ Eddie says he thinks he has that already. He states that he and Christopher ‘are a good team’- which is interesting because the only time we’ve seen Chris in 6b Buck has also always been present in said scene. Bobby comes back and says he’s right he is ‘a good father’ but ‘there is more to life, and even Christopher would agree. The sooner you realise that, the sooner you can get back out there.’ Which kind of goes along with this idea that Pepa perpetuated that Eddie is ‘alone’ and that he needs to do something with his life with someone else. This juxtaposes us seeing the opposite the past few episodes with everything he and Buck have done together (poker, hanging out, hustling, implied family meals) and how last episode there was not an Eddie scene without Buck in. This to me suggests that Eddie’s eyes needed to be opened to the fact it’s not just him and Chris, and as he considers Bobby’s words and later agrees with Pepa about ‘not wanting to be alone’ he may slowly be realising the levity of Buck’s presence in his life. He never considered the issue with work-life balance or being alone because subconsciously he never was, Buck is there with him in every aspect of his life. Therefore now his eyes are open to it, he can start to understand what he truly feels towards his best friend. That this hole is already filled if he admits it.
I also think this talk with Bobby allows Eddie to do his own choosing, as opposed to the last one. And how even though Pepa pushed him at the start, Eddie himself can now choose what and who he wants. Whilst Buck can be chosen, he doesn’t need to pick out the right couch- the couch, family and heart already chose him. Because as is always said; Eddie needs to finally be able to choose and Buck needs to finally be chosen.
(I also think Bobby’s talk to Buck in 6x01 parallels his talks to Buck in 6x14, especially with how badly he wanted to please and impress Bobby- full of livelihood and going above and beyond. Compared to now where Bobby is taking it easy on him and it frustrates Buck but he also knows he’s not at his best. Showcasing how deeply affected Buck has been from the lightning strike and how he needs to reach out and open up to someone about it quickly so he can deal with his true feelings about it, because it’s breaking my heart to see him this way☹️).

Buddie's Journey Through Season 5 - It's All About the Parallels
Carla saying in 4x13 that Eddie needed to follow his heart and not Christopher's after asking about his relationship with Ana...that story line (the relationship) could have easily been axed by the end of 4x14.
But instead the writers chose to keep Eddie's relationship with Ana going into season 5, which they immediately began to dismantle in 5x01, finishing up by 5x03. They chose to loop it into the bigger goal for the season: Eddie's character development.
The funny thing is, the writers also chose to give Buck a love interest in season 4 as well. They had brought Taylor back (just like they brought Ana back for Eddie in this same season) and made it clear that Buck was interested in being more than friends and their past casual hookups, which only gets fully addressed by the end of 4x14.
And another funny thing is at the end of 4x14, it's Buck bringing Eddie home from the hospital. It's Buck taking care of Christopher and staying in their house. (something they chose to show a contrast with in season 5 with Ana during the blackout, though we are never shown Ana and Christopher by themselves) It's Buck we see Eddie having the heart to heart with after the shooting, twice. Ana and Taylor are on the other side of the door in Eddie's home. (remember how odd it felt for Taylor to be there?) Buck and Eddie are on the opposite side until Eddie walks in while Buck remains at the threshold, watching everything.
youtube
Then in season 5, Eddie and Ana's relationship fizzles out pretty quickly, and Eddie is on a journey of character development. This reaches its breaking/escalation point fairly quickly once Ana is gone. And who is called when this happens ? Buck. In a framing shot similar to when Ana called Buck about Eddie in 4x14, with stuff going on with Taylor and her relationship with Buck going on in the background at the same time.
"Ana. Everything okay?"
Tumblr media
"Chris?"
Tumblr media
In the first shot, things are not okay with Eddie. Yes, he survived but he hasn't woken up yet from the surgery. Buck is understandably wary when Ana calls. Before this moment, Taylor had just kissed him and then ran.
In the second shot, Buck picks up the phone, happy that Chris is calling. He has no idea what's going on and thinks Eddie and Chris are both okay, not expecting anything bad & no reason to be wary. Before this shot (a Madney sequence occurred before we see Eddie's breakdown & Chris reacting to it), Buck and Taylor talk about their relationship and about the kiss he shared with someone else.
And then lo and behold, a few episodes later, Buck and Taylor's relationship dissolves as well. In the same season as Eddie's did, after they both had returning love interests return in the same season (4), that both relationships didn't have the best starts. Two love interests they had history with that were not exactly stellar.
And in the same season they had Eddie's character development happening (more than the average per season) that turned into a major story line surrounding the season, as they did for Buck. Though Eddie's was a bit more overt and louder (if that makes sense), Buck's was present also.
These two were in the first romantic relationship they had since their previous partners: Shannon for Eddie and Ali for Buck (really more Abby because Ali didn't fully live together with Buck as she did or Taylor).
Both react to it slightly differently, but ultimately they never fully settle into it - thus, the beginning of the dismantling.
And the entire time they are going through all of this major character development , they lean on each other emotionally instead of giving their partners that chance to be there for them. And they continue this emotional support of one another until the end of the season. It doesn't mean we don't see them receiving support from others (such as Maddie for Buck) or giving support to others (such as Eddie for Bobby), but the one constant that is repeated throughout the season is Buck and Eddie.

And they even had it in 5x01 and 5x02. Not to mention 5x06, 5x08, 5x10, and 5x11.
These conversations revolve around:
5x01 - Eddie's panic attack & Buck knowing something is wrong but Eddie not wanting to tell him
5x02 - Buck is concerned about Eddie's health & they talk about Eddie's relationship with Ana
5x04 - Buck has been punched by Chimney & he's upset
5x06 - a bonding traumatic event happens (them getting taken hostage) & Buck is clearly worried about both Eddie and Christopher during this event, which makes sense for the Buckley Diaz family setup, but they purposely gave us Buck's reaction to the gunshot (which links to the aftermath of what Eddie is struggling with this season to an extent which means this moment is about Eddie not Christopher or the will)
5x08 - Buck tells Eddie that they need to keep moving forward & trying to save people (in this episode, they work to rescue the kids -> doing a rescue together)
5x10 - Buck and Eddie talk about Christopher & why the nightmares are starting to happen again - this convo not only is related to Shannon & she is mentioned but this also leads to Eddie's decision later on to leave the 118 (which he then ends up finding out was not what Christopher wanted or the best decision for him) -> this is about Eddie
5x11 - Buck & Eddie talk in the kitchen about Eddie's new job & how he's faring (which Buck thinks he isn't too well & it turns out he's right)
5x13 - Eddie breaks down, Christopher calls Buck -> Buck finds Eddie in his room, gets Christopher settled & then talks to Eddie
5x14 - Buck talks to Eddie & Eddie wonders if everything they do as a first responder is worth it; Buck brings Christopher & Eddie to equine therapy where Buck shows Eddie that Charlie is there & he can see he's doing well, emphasizing that yes it's worth it
5x17 - Eddie talks to Buck as he packs for Christopher for their trip back to Texas, he talks about his father & the upcoming party
5x18 - Buck talks to Eddie about Bobby which then turns into the conversation about Taylor & her betrayal
Then notice how the physical seems to surround these emotional scenes:
5x01 - Eddie's panic attack/heart
5x02 - Eddie looks tired & his beginning panic attack
5x04 - Buck is icing his eye with ice from Chimney's punch; "Ice goes on the eye, bud"
5x06 - both B&E are taken hostage; Buck has been hit in the head by a gun; Eddie, Christopher, and Buck are all threatened to be shot; Eddie is pumping Mitchell's heart to keep him alive
5x08 - Eddie starts to have a panic attack but is able to ward it off after talking with Buck
5x10 - they're talking about Christopher's nightmare
5x11 - Eddie looks tired & unhappy and Buck notices
5x13 - Eddie takes a bat to his bedroom walls along with everything else
5x14 - Eddie is in therapy and feels exhausted/drained; during this convo, Eddie picks up two drawings of a heart, one which Buck admits he drew "I misunderstood the assignment" (how ironic since Buck is currently dealing with relationship troubles & that maybe he doesn't understand his own heart yet or the way it's supposed to be, hmm...); Eddie sees Charlie again, the boy he saved when he got shot
5x17 - in this episode, Ramon has what appears to be a heart attack but actually has something to do with his arteries (a la Eddie panic attack style)
5x18 - Eddie & Buck are patching up the wall together that he busted up with his bat back in 5x13
Then you have the three rescues they perform together after the blackout arc:
Kids (5x08)
Guy who is double-timing two wives where the line is said "Maybe I can fake amnesia, give myself some time to figure it out" in the same episode Buck is wondering what to get Taylor for Christmas & Eddie is struggling with what is happening with Christopher (5x10) [though this does not produce an emotional scene for either B or E, they still have their emotional connection moment later on in the episode]
Guy who is interested in Josh romantically (which is interesting timing since this episode is about Eddie finding himself again & on this end of the season, he is starting to separate himself from Christopher symbolically; also this episode featured the father/daughter dynamic of May & Bobby heavily, the brothers Chimney & Albert - guess which family dynamic that left? so it would make sense for it to be something related to Christopher/child for them rather than Josh's intended beau) [5x16]
Then you have the parallels of other pairings and characters/events happening around them:
Madney - this is a canon romantic pairing that is romantic in the first half of the season (5A) & is platonic/familial only in the second half of the season (5B) - in 5B after the breakup, we see both Maddie & Chimney attempting to co-parent their daughter while getting over each other and trying to move on after having a previous romantic relationship (sound familiar? see above)
Henren - a canon romantic pairing that has Eddie paralleling Karen and Buck paralleling Hen (5x15)
Bathena - a canon romantic pairing that Buddie gets paralled to in 5x09 with the "firefighter roleplay"
And that doesn't even begin to get into the parallels to other side romantic pairings like Clive/Toni and other relationships during emergencies.
Season 5 was all about moving Eddie into position, emotionally.
So now we have to wait to see if Buck will also be moved into position as well and go through his own emotional development. Because once that happens: checkmate.

Another amazing meta. 💙❤️ Every time I feel doubt creeping in on whether buddie will go canon, I head to your meta to remind myself that it'll be a crime not to follow through.
And this week's was... wow. So much happened in only a handful of scenes. That "solid ground" line from Bobby. The second I saw the GIFs for it I instantly thought there's another Buddie/Bathena parallel.
But the moment that really got me was Eddie return to the couch with beers only to find Buck asleep. It reminded me of the trope where the couple who haven't seen each other for a while, are all set to get jiggy, one goes to the bathroom and comes back to their partner sparko on the bed and sighs. So when you said it's the most naked they could be without removing their clothes, I understood you completely.
I honestly looking forward to the rest of the season, especially their date night. ☺️
Hello, my darling! Thank you SO MUCH for the kind words about my 612 meta! :D I'm so happy that you liked it. And honestly, every aspect of Bathena in this ep (though that "solid ground" line was probably the highlight) screamed that they're paralleled with Buddie. It was stunning!
YES! Hon, that is exactly it. Because whenever that trope happens, we're not meant to read it as "these two aren't interested in each other," we're meant to understand that they have reached THOSE levels of domesticity, of comfort. And that's what we see with Buddie in this ep.
I'm very much looking forward to their date night as well! I still can't believe no one else posted this spoilers pic of their poker night before I did. I was so sure I couldn't be the first one, it's why I phrased it as a question... But it makes me so happy the entire fandom went crazy over it, 'coz yeah, same! That poker game scene is gonna DELIVER. I just know it.
If it's okay, since you sent me a second ask and I'm falling behind, I might answer it here too, if it's alright with you?
Omg that anon just made me realize that it's not just the couch Buck hasn't really picked. So he was living with friends (frat house as the anon called it), then Abby's apartment, and then he chose the loft with Ally, obviously expecting it to be there home (and I may be misremembering but wasn't it her choice). I can't believe I never realized that.
I don't hate the loft either, and your right, it fits his bachelor lifestyle. It definitely feels like a bachelor pad, but now I can't get over the fact he didn't choose it alone, for himself.
This is in continuation to the anon asking about the loft. You're both absolutely right! From the way Buck and Ali interact with the sales lady, it's clear that Ali HAS a lot of say, and that she saw Buck's loft as the place that would be her other home. Did she have the final say? We don't know. But at the end of the day, the way he presents it is that this would be the first place he gets on his own.
So IDK, I'm still mostly positive about the loft. Did he choose alone? No. 'Coz he did have a gf he was committed to, and even if they weren't at the stage of fully living together, they were on the road there (a bit similar to how we saw Taylor in his loft in 5a, TBH. And yes, that very much strengthens the similarity to how he didn't choose the couch). But he was so enthused about being "an adult" who supports himself and is paying for his place on his own. I can't overlook that. And much like the whole idea of how a journey through the wrong r/s is needed in order to find the right one, that's how I kind of feel about the loft. It's not Buck's ultimate destination (that's Eddie's house), but it is an important step on the way there...
Thank you, darling! Hope you have a beautiful day! As always, here's my ask tag. xoxox

Still avoiding Sleepless in LA but got some unexpected writing time today (in a not fun way but i’m now relegated to the couch all day so nothing better to do….)
Tumblr media
Title: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana, Chapter 10: FUBAR, Buck’s PO
Fandom: 911, SWAT, H50
Parings: endgame Buddie and McDanno
Fic summary: When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.
Warnings/tags: first draft, abduction/kidnapping, Buck is NOT happy. Offscreen Eddie whump. Navyseal!buck
Tumblr media
Buck was surprised to see the number calling him.  It was Christopher’s school.  Fumbling, he answered the call, juggling his lunch. “Hello?
“Is this Evan Buckley?”
“This is he—but I go by Buck.”
“Okay.. Buck.  I’m Sophia Baxter the administrative assistant at Durand. You’re listed as the second contact number for Christopher Diaz.”
Buck halted in the middle of the doorway where he could see the clock above the computer worktable—it was about a half hour after school dismissal for Christopher. “Is Christopher okay?”
“Christopher is fine.  It’s just no one has come to pick him up today.  He said it was supposed to be his father but I’ve been unable to get Eddie Diaz on the phone number we have on file.”
“He was off today,” Buck said absently, already running through his last conversation with Eddie yesterday about his plans for today and he should have been able to pick up Chris as it was Carla’s day off since Eddie was going into his weekend off. “I’m out of town but I will get a hold of someone to come pick him up.  Can I call you back at this number?”
“Yes.  I can stay but I’m concerned that no one called.”
“Yeah that’s weird for Eddie.  I will be calling his family and I will call you back with a plan.”  Buck’s thoughts took on more worry.  It wasn’t like Eddie to not have Christopher’s  schedule planned in detail.
Making the appropriate noises to end the call, he immediately called Eddie as soon as the secretary hung up. Eddie’s phone rang and rang but it went to voicemail.  He dialed a second time—no answer.  His worry mounting, Buck texted Eddie a terse, call me now which just showed as delivered.
Switching to the location app that showed where someone was if they had authorized you—which Eddie and Buck had mutually done long ago because of shared trips with Christopher and one too many times getting separated at the zoo his worry skyrocketed when it showed no current location for Eddie.
The only time it showed that was if you were out of cell phone range or if they turned off their phone.
Buck pulled up Pepa’s number and hit dial perhaps a bit harder than necessary. Pepa answered on the fourth ring.  “Buck?  Is something wrong?  I’m at work.”
Buck skipped to the point. “Eddie hasn’t picked up Christopher and the school called me…. I guess I’m his second contact?”
“Yes he mentioned that,” Pepa hummed.
“What?”
“With the paperwork and all,” Pepa sounded distracted and there was background noise of her walking into a quieter area.
“What paperwork?”
“He didn’t tell you?
“Tell me what?”  Buck’s anxiety was climbing. What paperwork? Where was Eddie?
Pepa huffed into the phone as she closed a door with a quiet click. “I’m sure he meant to tell you.”
“Tell me what Tia?”  That came out a bit harsh and out of the corner of Buck’s eye he could see Danny and Steve coming out of their offices.
“It’s really something you need to discuss with Eddito,” Pepa hedged, “but he made sure Mama and myself knew about it.”
“Pepa,” Buck was begging for her to get to the point. “What paperwork?”
“If something were to happen to Eddito you would be the person to care for Christopher—and Buck you need to discuss this with Eddito not me.”
Buck was floundering. Eddie had done what?  “What?”
Pepa’s sigh was loud and frustrated but she changed the subject. “You said Eddito didn’t pick up Christopher?”
“No.  And I’m out of… state.”
“Eddito did mention you were in Hawaii.  He didn’t say what you were doing there…”
“Pepa!”
Silence.
“Pinching the bridge of his nose, Buck started pacing in agitation. “Someone needs to pick up Chris.”
“I can… well… it will be at least a half hour?”
“I will let the school know.  Can you keep him until…”
“Sure nene,” Pepa paused but her voice was gentle as she continued speaking. “Eddito meant to tell you… I think he was waiting for you to come back from your trip.”
“How long?”
Another sigh. “He told Mama and me oh… last week? But I got the impression he did it a while ago.”
Eddie had made this decision when? And over Pepa?  Over Abuela?  Buck understood why it wouldn’t be Eddie’s parents but there was Adriana or Sophia. Why him?  He’d… god damnit Eddie!  This was another one of his gestures wasn’t it? Like giving him Christopher to help cheer him up after being relegated to being a fire marshall or trusting him after the tsunami?
Why couldn’t Eddie just say things like a normal person?  He was going to give Buck a heart attack before his thirtieth birthday next year it was pounding so hard in his chest.
“Buck?  You there nene?”
“I need to talk to Eddie. If you hear from him… can you tell him to call me?”
“I will nene.”
“Thanks Pepa.”
“I will take care of Christopher.  I am sure Eddie is fine.”
Buck could tell that Pepa was concerned but trying for his sake to act like it was fine.  Eddie never dropped the ball with Christopher like this.  Something had to have happened if he hadn’t picked him up.
Saying goodbye to Pepa, his pacing was interrupted by Steve stepping into his way. “Buck?  What’s going on?”
“Eddie didn’t show up to pick up Christopher and he isn’t answering his phone.”
“What’s his cellphone number?” Chin asked, activating the tracing software.
Buck gave Chin the number.
“His phone last pinged this tower,” Chin’s fingers flew across the digital keyboard. “That was almost two hours ago. Triangulating.”
Anxiously watching, Buck clutched his biceps hard enough to bruise. With everything that had been going on he hadn’t thought he’d have to worry about Eddie too. Eddie had said he was thinking about taking Chris to the zoo this weekend without him and he’d made that dumb joke about saying hi to all the animals for him and—
“Last location is the Mobil gas station on Santa Monica and Highland.”
“That’s not too far from Bobby and Athena’s…”
Chin’s fingers froze on the keyboard. “Buck….”
“What?”  Dread flooded him. Chin wasn’t looking at him.
“There was a 911 call from that gas station about an hour and half ago.”
It felt like his heart was beating out of his chest that was suddenly three sizes too small. “What?”  Danny’s arm snaked around him to pull him in close, his fingers trying to pry Buck’s off his own arm.
“Tell us Chin,” Danny said calmly making Buck look at him.  The shorter man was completely focused on Chin, expression icy.  Steve was at Danny’s shoulder, his facial expression just as stony.
Clearing his throat, Chin’s eyes finally met his.  There was a shared sadness in his gaze. “They reported an abandoned pickup truck with fuel leaking from the tank.  Station cameras show a possible abduction of the male driver.”are
Everything just stopped.
Eddie was….
Eddie…
No…
Who would….
No…
No
Nononnononononononononononononononononononn!
“Buck!  Buck!  Kid!  Evan!”
He was distantly aware of Steve calling his name.
Eddie was… someone had grabbed Eddie.
Eddie had been taken.
There was this high pitched ringing noise.  It was so loud it hurt his ears but he couldn't’ do anything—he was just frozen in place.
“Hondo, yeah I need a favor.  I need you to take over a case.  Edmundo Díaz was kidnapped from a Mobil gas station on Santa Monica and Highland about two hours ago. There was a 911 call from the station but the report we can see says there was a man kidnapped and Eddie’s cell phone goes silent there at the same time.”
“C’mon kid, snap out of it,” that was Danny.  Danny who was shaking him slightly and still holding him. “Buck?  Kid?”

"I am fed up with half-measures. I deserve better." (Got huge buddie and malex vibes from this one 👀)
ao3 link
The last thing Eddie expected to find at his door was Buck, of all people – not because Buck was an unusual fixture in his home; no, because Buck was supposed to be on a date.
Eddie had been trying his best for weeks now, to be the dutiful best friend, and support Buck’s relationship with Taylor – regardless of how much he wished Buck wasn’t dating anyone else – and it was hard. It was hard, and so Eddie was halfway through a tub of his favourite flavour of ice-cream (the excessively expensive one Buck had introduced him to, the one Eddie only bought when he knew Christopher wasn’t home). He’d also cracked open a bottle of wine Hen and Karen had given him as a thank you for babysitting Denny, one Saturday afternoon (he’d made a mental note to thank Karen – the woman had good taste in wine) and so Eddie was well settled in for an evening of feeling sorry for himself while Christopher was at a sleepover party.
Until – well, Buck decided to bang his door in.
Tucking his ice-cream into the crook of his arm, Eddie raised an eyebrow. “You have a key,” he reminded, looking a frazzled Buck up and down. He was clearly dressed for a date – wearing that blue striped shirt that made Eddie’s mouth water, a neat jacket over the top – but he was also clearly not on said date.
“I have had the worst day,” Buck declared dramatically, kicking his sneakers off in the hallway, brow furrowing as he noticed the bottle of wine on the table. “Do you have company?” he asked, clearly confused – Ana was long gone, to be fair, their relationship having ended weeks previously.
Eddie swallowed, glancing down at his very sad outfit of a pair of raggedy old sweatpants, and a grubby sweatshirt that had definitely seen better days – Eddie wasn’t a sentimental man, really, but Christopher always called it Eddie’s cuddliest sweatshirt, so Eddie didn’t have the heart to throw it out.
“No,” he reassured. “I don’t.”
“Wine, though?”
“Are you questioning my methods of self-care?” Eddie retorted. “I like wine, sue me.”
“All wine tastes the same,” Buck sighed, throwing himself on the couch, reaching for the bottle.
“You can have a glass,” Eddie intervened. “But I will kick you out of my house if you drink directly from that bottle, Buck. I’d like to pretend I have some level of class,” he sighed, padding into the kitchen and grabbing another wine glass – a set Abuela had bought him, when he’d moved to LA. “So,” he said, setting the glass down on the coffee table, pausing to take a scoop of his slowly melting ice-cream before he continued. “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong, or are we going to play charades?”
Buck rolled his eyes, but took the wine glass, all the same, pouring himself a generous measure. He took a swig, before he spoke, raising an eyebrow. “Did you pick this out?” he questioned, no doubt thinking back to the evening where Eddie had been in charge of getting wine for their family dinner and had accidentally bought cooking wine. It was an easy mistake to have made, if you asked Eddie.
Eddie shook his head. “Present from Karen and Hen,” he clarified. “Stop deflecting.”
“I broke up with Taylor,” and oh, if Eddie hadn’t been waiting to hear those words for so long.
“I’m sorry,” Eddie tried, because he couldn’t look that happy about it, could he? It would give the game away – and in so many ways, Eddie was convinced his feelings were obvious, that he’d given the game away a long time ago, but Buck had never mentioned it.
“I’m not,” Buck looked furious, again. “I – we had this nice date planned, right? We made sure to pick a night where we were both off, where she doesn’t need to be in work early tomorrow, and I’m off, so we could get breakfast, too – really spend some time together,” he explained. “And I got to the restaurant and I waited, and I waited, and I waited for a fucking hour, Eddie, and nothing – no text, no call from her. I was sitting there, spiralling, wondering if she was – if she was dead, or something. Right? So, after an hour, I decided I was going to pass by the news station, and see what was happening, and do you know what she said?”
Eddie shook his head.
“That she’d told her intern to call me and cancel our date, because a story came up,” Buck practically spat. “I mean, is she serious? And like – I love that she has a career she loves, because she gets how I feel about being a firefighter, but she does this all the time and I just never feel like I’m even getting close to the top of her priority list. So, I – I asked her, if I was ever going to be something she prioritised over work, and she said no.”
Eddie winced. “She was honest, at least,” he tried.
“Totally,” Buck agreed. “And I appreciate the honesty – really – and it’s not like it ended on bad terms. We just didn’t want the same thing out of a relationship, and I’m not going to resent her for it. But – fuck, this is nice wine by the way – I am fed up with half-measures, Eddie,” he sighed, slumping back on the couch. “I deserve better.”
Eddie swallowed thickly. Buck did deserve better – and Eddie wasn’t going to sit here and pretend as though he was better, as though he knew he could be boyfriend of the year and give Buck everything he needed. But – Eddie loved him, and surely, surely that had to be enough? It had to be enough to love someone so much it felt like your love for them was etched into the very bones of who you were? Eddie so badly wanted to be enough.
“I wouldn’t,” Eddie said quietly, suddenly conscious of the melting ice-cream he was still gripping tightly. It had cost eleven dollars, he reminded – he should probably put it back in the freezer.
Buck looked at him, utterly confused. “What?”
“I wouldn’t love you in half-measures,” Eddie wasn’t sure where he was finding the bravery, to finally say it, to tell Buck how he felt, but somehow, somewhere, he’d found a bravery he wasn’t sure he’d ever had before. He had thought he’d be spending the rest of his life trundling along, desperately in love with a best friend who didn’t love him back. Eddie had accepted it, almost – because having Buck as a friend was better than not having Buck at all.
Buck’s cheeks were flushed, his eyes wide, and excited. “How would you love me, Eddie?” he asked, his voice soft, and trembling – the only giveaway that he felt as nervous as Eddie did, there and then, dangling on the precipice of something new, and wonderful.
“Forever,” Eddie said. “I’d love you forever, Buck.”
(And when Buck kissed him – he tasted like wine, and Eddie knew he tasted like wine, and Buck’s shirt was soft, under tentative fingertips as Eddie reached out to hold him the way he’d so desperately wanted to for so long, and –
Well, it felt like the beginning of forever.)

Watch Me Fall Apart (And I'll Be Yours to Keep)
1856 words. After a tough rescue, both Eddie and Buck end up in the hospital.
title from only love by ben howard. i wrote most of this in one sitting with no beta so just *gestures vaguley* here
They've both been here too many times to count—covered in soot, smoke in their lungs, sweat plastering their hair to their faces, but never at the same time. Never where the other can't be near to see, to place a hand on a shoulder, to lean against in support. A fire in a high-rise, a family trapped on the upper floors, and that's all it took for Buck to grab the ropes, Eddie behind him, because where one goes, the other follows. It's their routine, their deal, the promise to have each other's backs, to support whenever needed, it's just never ended them both in the hospital at the same time.
Eddie is the first one released—Buck had been the first to go in, and made sure that Eddie was out before him, because of course he did. And maybe Eddie should've insisted that Buck get out before him, should've argued with him for an extra five seconds, should've done something so that Buck doesn't have to spend the night in the hospital alone. But he didn't, and now Eddie is being sent home and the doctor is refusing to let him see Buck.
"Mr. Diaz," the doctor says, "Your friend is fine."
Eddie wants to argue with her, because friend? Friend? Like Buck and Eddie have been anything but friends for a long time. Like Buck isn't laying in a hospital bed alone, when Eddie should be there to support him. Like by denying him seeing Buck, all the smoke that was in Eddie's lungs returns and it's almost impossible to breathe for the second time tonight.
"He's asleep now and resting," she continues when Eddie opens his mouth to argue, "Which you should be doing, too. You need to go home and rest, you can come see him in the morning."
"But—"
"Mr. Diaz," she cuts him off, remaining polite, but obviously frustrated, "Visiting hours have been over for a long time, and Mr. Buckley will be discharged in the morning. Someone will give you a call, and you can pick him up then."
The doctor's tone is one of finality, but Eddie can't take no for an answer. Before he can continue pleading his case, Bobby arrives. He comes over to Eddie and the doctor, placing a reassuring hand on Eddie's shoulder. "I've got it from here, thanks doc," he says, before steering Eddie toward the exit. They've barely made it out the doors before Eddie shakes Bobby's hand from his shoulder, and turns on him.
"Bobby," he all but begs, "You have to let me see him. They brought us in at the same time, but I haven't seen him since. I know it's smoke inhalation, and probably some fatigue and dehydration, but they won't let me see him." Eddie knows how he sounds, knows it's desperate in a way he normally isn't, but it's Buck. It's Buck, who has ended up in hospitals more times than he cares to count, who is his partner, who made sure that Eddie got out of the building first, even knowing it would land him more time here—he can't just leave him behind.
"Eddie," Bobby says as evenly as possible—it's the same tone he uses on distraught spouses, and Eddie wants to cry, "I need you to take a breath for a minute, okay? Just take a moment to calm down, and then we'll figure it out."
And yeah, Eddie probably does need to collect himself, because while smoke inhalation can be serious, Buck is getting exactly the care he needs right now. There's nothing for Eddie to do, yet it doesn't stop the helplessness that's settled in the space between his ribs, which only worsened after the doctor told him he was being discharged without Buck. So, Eddie shuts his eyes, and allows himself a few moments to just breathe, to focus on the air entering and then leaving his lungs, to focus on the feeling of his chest rising and falling. It helps steady him, helps him come back to a relatively even keel.
"Are you good to drive?" Is the first thing that Bobby asks once Eddie opens his eyes. He doesn't think he can talk without freaking out again, so he nods his response. "Okay, good. What's going to happen is I'm going to drive you back to the station, you're going to get your truck, take it home, see Christopher, and go to sleep. Because the doctor was right, you need to rest. And in the morning, when the hospital calls you, you'll go pick up Buck. Sound like a plan?"
Now that he's calmed down and the adrenaline that's been keeping him alert has worn off, Eddie feels a deep tiredness settle in his bones, and it takes all his remaining energy to stay on his feet. Again, Eddie nods in response, walks over to the car, and says, "Take me to the station, Cap." And that's what Bobby does.
Normally, when one of the crew returns from the hospital, the rest of the shift is there to greet them, but no one is there when Eddie arrives, and he's grateful. His nerves are fried, he's exhausted, and he doesn’t think he could handle the team's questions right now. All he wants to do is shower, grab his bag, and go home—thankfully, he's able to do that without even hearing the low hum of conversation that's ever present in the loft.
Eddie is locking the front door behind him and taking off his shoes while he debates whether or not to wake Chris just so he can give him a hug. It's only when he's finally made it to Chris' door that he has his answer—not because he came to a decision himself, but because one was made for him.
Chris' bed is empty, and for a heartbeat Eddie panics, because Christopher isn't in his bed, but then he remembers: he was injured on hour twelve of a twenty-four-hour shift, so of course Chris isn't here. And Eddie should feel relieved, should feel calmer now, but all he can think about is the fact that he can't see his son, and he can't see Buck, and suddenly it's like the anchors that were holding his mooring in place have let go, and he's adrift.
Eddie tries to breathe, tries to remind himself that both his boys are okay, they're both being looked after, they're both safe. He goes to the kitchen, fills a glass with water, and drinks it all in one go. He fills it again, this time bringing it to his room, setting it down on the table beside his bed. Eddie changes into an old t-shirt that Buck left behind ages ago and an old pair of army sweatpants before he slides into bed.
Now that he's home and in bed, the exhaustion should be catching up with him, all but dragging him to sleep. Except, now that Eddie's alone, he can't stop thinking about how quiet the house is, how empty it feels. Even on nights when Chris is away at a sleepover, Buck would always come over, and they'd watch a movie, or a hockey game, or just talk over beers. The negative space, normally filled by laughter and jokes and, god, even Buck's snoring in his ear, feels like a noose around his neck. No matter what he does, Eddie just cannot sleep.
So, Eddie lays in bed and does his best not to think about the call that ended him up here, and Buck alone in the hospital. Does his best not to think about how he should have told Buck to take the daughter out while he got the father. Does his best not to think about how Buck removed his mask to help the victim breathe, and putting himself in danger. A shuddering sob rips through his chest, and he forces himself to sit up because he needs to get air in his lungs or he'll choke on his guilt and fear.
The clock on beside his bed reads quarter after five, so he figures that's good enough for morning, and gets up. He can't stay in his empty house any longer, so Eddie slips on the worn sweater that he keeps hanging off the back of his door, grabs his keys and wallet, puts on his shoes, and then he's out the door.
The drive to the hospital is quick, but now he has nothing to do but wait. He turns on the radio, but keeps it low so that it's just a hum in the background. At some point, Eddie must doze, because the next thing he knows, he's being startled awake by his ringtone and the clock on his dashboard reads half past seven.
"Hello, is this Mr. Di—"
"Yes," he interrupts the caller, not caring how he sounds, "I'm outside."
"Okay, we'll send him to you now." And it's all Eddie can do to mumble a quick thank you before hanging up.
He doesn't go up to the doors, but his truck is parked close enough to the front that Buck can't miss him. Still, he gets out, leans against the driver side door, and waits. It doesn't take long, maybe a minute or two, and Buck is walking out the doors, looking side to side, eyes searching. He's clean, his curls are soft, if a little messy, and his whole face lights up the moment he sees Eddie.
"You look like shit," is the first thing Buck says to him. He comes right up to Eddie, less than a foot away, and Eddie has to clutch his hands together so he doesn't reach out and touch. But even without touching him, the weight that has made a home in Eddie's chest since last night melts away, like it's made of ice and Buck of flame.
"Well," Eddie tries to joke, "Not all of us got our beauty sleep." But he can't hide the heaviness in his voice, he can't help how it wavers now that the tension is gone, he can't help but lower his head.
"Hey, Eddie," Buck says earnestly, taking hands he didn't even realize were shaking in his own.
And it's the softness in his voice, the thumb running over his knuckles, the pulse he can feel once he lets himself grip Buck's wrist, that gives him the strength to answer, "Yeah, Buck?"
"We're okay," Buck tells him, like a promise. Like the answer to a question Eddie hadn't dared ask because it terrified him. Buck's hands move from their grip on Eddie's, one hand sliding around his waist, the other coming to the back of his head.
"Yeah," Eddie whispers into the space between Buck's shoulder and neck, "we're okay."
Buck only holds him tighter now, his lips pressed to Eddie's temple, as he releases a shuttering breath. They stay there, each clutching the other, until they no longer feel adrift, until their moorings are once again anchored in a cove, and no longer lost in the rolling waves of the open ocean.

Get in, clowns.  We’re going to the circus.  On ao3.
Eddie’s palms are sweaty.
It’s warm outside, the sun beating down on the park bench where he’s sitting, but it’s the nerves that have his hands clammy as he turns his water bottle over between them.
When Buck had walked in the house earlier, he’d taken one look at Eddie and rolled his eyes before shoving him back into his bedroom.
“You can’t wear that,” Buck said, rifling through Eddie’s dresser.  He emerged with Eddie’s tightest pair of jeans and shoved them at his chest before turning to the drawers with shirts.
“What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?” Eddie asked, baffled as he looked down at himself and then, skeptically, at the jeans.
“You look like a dad.”  Buck’s voice went muffled for a moment before he made a noise of victory and pulled out a deep red, long-sleeved shirt that Eddie’s pretty sure is at least a size too small.
“Kind of hard not to.  Since I am one and all.  That’s not exactly a secret.”
“Yeah, but you can look like a hot dad who is making an effort instead of a regular dad going to the grocery store or something.  You’ll thank me later.”
After Eddie had changed and walked out of the bathroom, Buck’s face shifted—Eddie could have sworn his eyes darkened, that his voice was rougher as he pronounced Eddie much better.
So Eddie knows he looks good.
But his palms are still sweaty.  He uncaps the water bottle and takes a sip more to have something to do than because he needs it.  And then he starts drumming his fingers against his thigh, needing something to occupy them, some way to move.
He’s tempted to pull out his phone, to reread the latest texts from Bobby or even the shameless teasing in the group text that Buck started with his sisters—and boy, was that a mistake, putting the three of them in touch, because Eddie never in a million years would have told them he was going on a date if he hadn’t done it by accident because Buck’s direct messages happened to be right below the group—
He’s still not sure he should be, is the thing.  Dating.  He still feels like he can’t quite breathe right when he thinks too hard about it.  Can still play that last dinner with Shannon over on loop, from her asking for a divorce to the implication that really being with him again would be so terrible she would have to run for the hills and leave their child behind.
He didn’t exactly have great self-esteem to begin with.
Eddie wipes his palms on his jeans—he’s in the middle of debating whether it’s bad parenting to make up an emergency involving your kid to get out of a date, when—
“Eddie!  Hi,” Ana greets, walking up the path.
The anxiety in his chest twists tighter as he gets up from the bench and waves.
“Hey.  You, uh—you look really nice,” he says, because it’s true and also the easiest thing he can remember from the last time he did this.
Ana smiles.  “So do you.”
There’s a pause that lingers a little too long and then they both start trying to speak at once, cutting off abruptly when they realize.  Eddie rubs self-consciously at the back of his neck.
“Should we walk?” Ana offers, nodding down the path where it leads into the trees.
“Sure, yeah,” Eddie agrees.
It’s actually not...bad.  She asks him about work and that’s a safe enough topic that he’s comfortable spending a few minutes telling her stories from the station.  She shares a little about the challenges of virtual teaching.  And then she asks about Chris, and, well, that’s an easy subject—Eddie could talk about Chris all day.
He just finishes the story about the actual building of Christopher’s skateboard—which involved no small amount of comical trial and error on the part of two decidedly not Chris-sized grown men—when Ana gets a thoughtful look on her face and glances sideways at him.
“Can I ask you something personal?”  She asks.
Eddie rocks back on his heels and hooks his thumbs in his pockets.  “Sure.”
“How long has it been for you?”
Eddie’s eyebrows shoot up.  “Since...the last time I dated?”
Ana nods.
“Well…” He wets his lips to stall.  “The last person I dated was my wife.  And I’m not sure it was really dating in the same way after we were married so...I guess...eleven years give or take?”
He laughs and he can hear the edge of self-deprecation.  “That obvious I’m out of practice?”
“No,” Ana says.  “No, that wasn’t—it’s really not actually. Although it does explain some things.”
“Things?”
She bites her lip.  “Nothing bad,” she insists.  “Just—”
“Have you ever been on a date where the other person talked about their ex the whole time and it was kind of obvious they still had feelings for them and you couldn’t help wondering why they weren’t with the ex when they clearly wanted to be?”  She asks.
Eddie blinks, scrolling back through their conversation trying to think—he’s pretty sure he hasn’t mentioned Shannon except for the once.  And he’s not still—
“In high school, maybe?” He answers.  “But I’m not sure—”
“I was trying to figure out if you and Buck ever dated,” she clarifies, and Eddie stops in his tracks, his mind shorting out as he takes that in.
“I—what?”
They’re back at the parking lot anyway, and although they could take another loop around the park, Ana stops by the closest bench and smiles as she leans against it.
“Look, I like you, Eddie,” she says.  “And if I’m totally off base and you want to see me again, I will definitely pick up the phone.  But if I’m not?  I couldn’t not say something.”
“Buck’s my best friend,” Eddie replies.  His head is swimming but it surprisingly doesn’t feel bad.  More like he’s been handed the clue card for a puzzle he was trying to solve and while the pieces haven’t quite come together fully, they’re getting there.
“You talk about him like he’s your partner.  Like the three of you are a family.  And when you talk about him you look like…”  Ana shakes her head and laughs, but it’s not unkind.  Just soft and maybe a little longing.  “I would love for someone to look like that when they’re talking about me.  Thinking about me.  So, I thought you should know.  Just in case you didn’t.”
Another puzzle piece falls into place and Eddie sucks in a breath.
“I do like you,” he says.
“Yeah...but you’re in love with him.  Right?”  Eddie’s quiet and Ana nods.
“I’m gonna go,” she decides.  “This was nice, for the record.  Maybe we can do it again.  As friends next time.”
“Ana—” Eddie calls after her.  When she looks back over her shoulder though, he’s not sure what to say except, “...thank you.”
“Let me know how it works out?” She asks.  “I’m a little invested now.”
Eddie laughs and runs a hand through his hair.  “Yeah...sure.”
He drives home in a daze, so much of the past two years—maybe even longer—suddenly thrown into new light.  Everything he’s been afraid of, everything that’s been holding him back—all of the baggage and insecurities that Shannon left behind, that have made him feel like he’s not good enough, like he can’t be a partner to anyone—
He never stopped and looked too hard at what he already had.  What he was already doing.
What he has.  What he is doing.
With Buck.
In the stark glare of hindsight, it’s easy to see—he was still married when they met, was worn down and bruised and not looking for anything.  He needed a friend and Buck slipped in to fill that void and Eddie...put him in a box.  Put them in a box.  Carefully compartmentalizing every aspect of his life because it was easier that way, because it allowed him to sort through the tangled knots of expectation from any number of other sides, any number of other identities—husband, father, son.
There was no baggage attached to friend.  No forgive and forget and take your wife back because kids need their mothers or you’ll drag him down with you or I wasn’t enough.
There was just...Buck.  Present.  Supportive.  Caring about him.  Believing in him.   The real him—masks off, walls down, warts and all.
The longer Eddie thinks, the clearer things become.  His mind flips through memories like a scrapbook—panic attacks and phone calls at two in the morning, nights on the couch playing video games with Christopher and the slower, lingering moments with just the two of them after they put him to bed, all those months sharing a bed in Buck’s apartment while he despaired over being away from his son and Buck reminded him he was a good dad—
How many of those nights had Eddie wanted to kiss him?  How many times had he felt that buzz under his skin, the whisper of it would be so easy, only to shove it down because it was too dangerous to deal with.
And when he thinks now about the future, about having someone in his home, in his bed, in his life, when he pictures it, all he can see is Buck.
It feels right.
“I love him,” Eddie says out loud, tasting the words on his tongue, letting them linger.
I love him.
His pulse spikes with his anxiety, but it calms down as he sits with it.  Because he knows Buck’s not going to leave.  He trusts that.  Buck’s seen him at his worst and none of that has ever driven him away.  So maybe…
Eddie’s mind flicks back to earlier in the day, to the dark heat in Buck’s gaze as it dragged over him before he looked away.
...yeah.  They’ll be okay.
He’s home before he even really registers and takes a few slow breaths before he shuts off the truck and gets out.  When he steps through the door, it’s a strange feeling.  The space is familiar but not.  More...settled somehow.  Home.
Home.
Eddie closes the door behind him and follows the sound of running water to the kitchen.  He stops in the doorway, leaning against the frame, and spends a moment just watching Buck scrub potatoes in the sink until the other man glances up and notices him.
“Hey,” Buck greets.  “Chris is reading in his room, I’m just working on dinner.  How was the date?”
God, I love you, Eddie thinks, and nearly has to bite his tongue to keep it to himself.
Yeah.  It’s right.
He shrugs.  “It was fine.  Ana’s nice.”
“When’s the next date then?”  There’s an odd note in Buck’s voice that makes Eddie push off the frame and step closer.
“There’s not going to be one,” he replies.  “Ana’s nice...but I don’t want to date her.”
Buck stops.  Shuts off the water and turns, leaning back against the sink.
“No?”  Buck’s brow furrows.  “It’s not—do you still feel like you’re not ready?”
“No, it’s not that,” Eddie replies.  “I do think I’m ready.  But with the right person.”
His heart is pounding in his chest, but it’s not fear.  More...anticipation.
He swallows hard.
“Ana said something that made me realize that...I don’t want to start from scratch with some stranger.”
Eddie takes another step closer and Buck inhales sharply, emotions shifting across his face too quickly for Eddie to name them all.
“Eddie…”  Buck sounds hoarse, a little disbelieving.  He leans forward for a moment before shaking his head, clearing his throat.
“I can’t—I need you to be specific,” he says.  “Because I can’t make assumptions here, I can’t—”
Eddie kisses him.  Steps in far enough that Buck’s body presses flush against his, slides his hand around the back of Buck’s neck, and kisses him.  Buck makes a small noise and grips him right back, his hands curving around Eddie’s hips nearly tight enough to bruise in sharp contrast to the way Eddie’s mouth feathers against his, soft as anything.
“Specific enough?”  Eddie breathes, staying close enough that their lips brush again.  Buck surges up and uses his grip on Eddie’s hips to turn them, pinning Eddie against the counter as he kisses him again in response.  Once, twice, three times, and Eddie shivers.
He hasn’t been kissed in so long, hasn’t been touched with intention like this—he’d forgotten what it felt like.  His body floods with heat as Buck’s hands slip under his shirt, spreading wide over his rib cage, and he parts his lips eagerly for Buck’s tongue.
Down the hall, a door closes, and Buck jumps back, Eddie slumping against the counter to keep himself upright.  Buck is flushed and panting and Eddie’s pretty sure he can’t look much better, too warm and electric, wanting, wanting, wanting—
Both of them catch their breath and watch the door, but Christopher doesn’t appear.  After a minute Eddie catches the faint sound of a toilet flushing and he looks back at Buck.
And he laughs.  It bubbles up from his chest like champagne fizz, bright and warm and right, and apparently it’s contagious because Buck starts up as well, stepping in again and sliding his arms around Eddie’s waist, ducking his head to laugh breathlessly against Eddie’s neck.
When they calm down, Buck stays close, his lips feathering over Eddie’s pulse.  Eddie hums and closes his eyes as he tips his head back to give Buck better access.
“I’m in love with you,” he says.  “In case that wasn’t clear.”
Buck’s lips curve up against Eddie’s skin.
“Well that’s convenient,” he replies.  “Since Chris was asking me earlier why you couldn’t just date me if you were going to date again.”
Eddie’s startled into another laugh.  “Really?”
“Really.”
Eddie grins and opens his eyes again.  “Hey Buck?”
“Yeah?”
“Go out with me?”
Buck snorts and pushes him out of the way so he can go back to the potatoes.
“Help me finish getting dinner together and we’ll see.”  But the second Eddie turns away, Buck snags him by a belt loop and reels him back in for another kiss.
“Yes,” Buck says.  “Yes.”
And it’s right.

A/N: I know you completely forgotten about this prompt but I'm still sorry it's taken me so long lol.
That being said, thank you so much for the prompt anyways :)
ao3 version here

"Are you okay?" Buck asked as Eddie wiggled ever so slightly in his seat for what felt like the millionth time.
"I'm fine." Eddie answered also for the millionth time.
The blond rolled his eyes. This was getting out of hand.
"Eddie." He gave his best friend, who was stubbornly staring ahead and pretending to watch the cartoon that Christopher had enthusiastically picked, a pointed look before sofly kicking his ankle.
The other man jerked and swivelled his head to meet Buck's gaze. "Hey, what was that for?"
"Eds, you're hurting."
Eddie huffed a quick, "I'm fine."
Before he could protest Christopher chimed in from his current spot on the floor against the couch that he moved to earlier after being tired of bumping into his dad whenever they moved at the same time. "Daaaaad." He started to say before letting out an exasperated sigh that made him seem like an actual teenager and not just a pre-teen. "You're hurt."
Eddie opened his mouth to protest but then closed it before letting out a sigh of defeat. "My shoulder is just aching a little from sitting on the couch for too long. It's not that big of a deal."
Both Buck and Chris shared a long-suffering look, used to the older Diaz's stubbornness but still a little exasperated from having to deal with it more frequently the past few weeks. Although, they'd didn't complained because as long as Eddie was still alive that was all that mattered.
"Eds," Buck began to tell him in a soft voice, "do you need to lay down?"
It was Eddie's turn to roll his eyes. "I'm fine." He repeated with emphasis. "I've been in that damn bed enough these past few weeks to last a lifetime."
"Eddie." Buck told him sternly, knowing that if Eddie was showing discomfort and talking about his shoulder bothering him then it must've really been hurting him and he didn't want his best friend to exasperate the wound and hurt even more.
"Buck." Eddie mocked.
"Donkey!" Christopher exclaimed, breaking the tension.
The two men blinked at each other, looked at the ten year old who started to giggle, then looked back at each other before starting to laugh as well.
After a few moments of laughter, Buck let out a soft sigh. "Eddie, I'm serious. If you need to, I can help you to bed."
His best friend gave him a fond smile which wasn't until recently that Buck had realized the full effect it had on him. "I know. And thank you for caring, like you always do. But it's almost Chris' bedtime anyways and I want to spend as much time with you guys out here as possible."
Buck sighed, always ending up giving in to Eddie. It had taken his best friend getting shot for him to realize exactly why he had that effect on Buck. "I know you do." He said ever so softly. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be so overbearing. It's just..." He paused.
"We worry about you." Christopher finished for him, patting his father's leg as he gave him a serious look.
Eddie smiled down at his son. "I don't want you to worry, Mijo. That's my job."
"But dad, we do worry. It's what family does."
Eddie's smile brightened. "Well when you put it that way..." He then began to tickle his son, who's giggles echoed happily throughout the living room.
However, the older Diaz could only tickle for a second or so before wincing in pain, although he did a pretty good job of hiding it. But Buck could tell how much his best friend was hurting. He always could.
"Okay, that's it." Buck announced, moving closer to the end of the couch until his left side hit the arm. He then patted his thigh. "Come on."
Eddie's eyes widened ever so slightly, making Buck realize the innuendos that motion caused.
He then cleared his throat. "Lay your head on my lap."
Yeah that didn't sound quite better either.
Buck then quickly added. "So you can finish the movie with me and Chris and be at least somewhat more comfortable."
Eddie gave him that small yet fond smile once more, eyes slightly widened as he looked at him in what seemed to be in awe.
The blond shifted in his seat. "What?"
His best friend cleared his throat. "Nothing." His eyes then fell toward Buck's lap before travelling back to meet his gaze. "Are you sure?"
Buck rolled his eyes before patting his thigh again. "Of course. Come on, we're missing all the good parts."
Eddie's smile widened as he proceeded to lay down on the couch, his back against the cushions as his head tilted slightly to see the movie.
Trying to help him be as comfortable as possible, Buck went to delicately rest his arm around Eddie's side so his bad shoulder could have more support.
They surprisingly got settled in comfortable positions rather quickly as Christopher gave them a bright smile before turning his attention back on the tv and proceeding to rewind the little bit that they missed.
They watched the cartoon in a peaceful silence besides the laughter coming from all three of them at different points. It didn't take long for Buck to subconsciously begin to to rub small, soothing circles on Eddie's arm with one hand and softly run his fingers through Eddie's hair in the other.
His best friend hitched a breath at first at the touch, which made Buck about to stop his small movements. But before he could, Eddie sunk further in the blond's hold, and let out a moan of contentment.
"Hmmm. That's nice." He muttered, shifting his head ever so slightly so he could softly rub his nose against Buck's thigh, like a cat who was enjoying a head rub.
And wow, okay. This was new.
Though Buck could add it up to the list of small yet new and slightly alarming - but in a good way - things that Eddie had done since coming home from the hospital.
For a man who had gotten shot in broad daylight and almost… died, Eddie had surprisingly been... lighter in a way.
Even while he was struggling with dealing with having to only use one arm and needing other's help since Eddie always had a hard time asking for help. But at least with Buck he had been more open about it, more willing to tell the blond what he needed. Even though there were still plenty of times where Buck had to guess and not be told Eddie's needs, like just a few minutes prior.
But, whenever Eddie would ask Buck for help and the blond immediately said "Of course" or when Buck gave him exactly what he needed at the moment without being asked, no matter what Eddie would always give him that fond smile.
Buck had noticed it before that fateful day, but there was something about those fond looks that sorta...grew afterwards. A certain openness that always took his breath away.
And then of course there were those lingering touches that Eddie had given him countless of times as well.
Sure, Buck had been helping him with his PT exercises so of course they'd be touching a lot. But it wasn't just then. Like whenever Buck would hand Eddie something and their fingers would graze each other. Or whenever Eddie needed to walk pass Buck and his hand would press on his back for a moment. It was used to be where the touch would only last a milisecond but now it'd just linger there for a few secondw too long. In fact, whenever they'd accidentally touch - and that had been happening a lot in these past few weeks - Eddie would always just… linger there. And whenever he'd finally move away, he didn't look bashful or embarrassed or anything like that. No. He'd just give Buck this lingering, secretive smile that always made his stomach flutter, before going back to what he was doing and acting like he didn't just almost give Buck a heart attack with all of the palpitations that he caused.
However, Buck would just try to tell himself that he was just overreacting and that it was just because his feelings for his best friend had been present more than ever and hard to keep in since the incident. That Eddie had always acted like that because they were best friends and close and that was what they did. Nothing changed except Buck temporarily moving in to help out which made everything seem more intimate than it really was.
That was it. Nothing less. Nothing more.
Well...besides the fact that Eddie had apparently put Buck in his will as Christopher's guardian if something were to happen to him. A fact that Eddie had kept to himself for a year. Something that Buck may or may not still be reeling from during these past few weeks. Especially as he and the Diaz boys had fallen into this somewhat domestic bubble that Buck kept trying to convince himself that it was just temporary as Eddie recovered.
And it worked. For the most part.
However, it had been more and more difficult for Buck to convince himself of it when it came to moments like his current one.
With the way Eddie didn't second guess to lay on Buck's lap after getting the okay and proceeding to sink further into the touch. Eddie's little moans and noises of contentment as Buck continued his gentle movements.
And...did Eddie's lips just gently graze the skin on Buck's thigh where his shorts rode up?
That...that had to be a mistake right?
Because, sure, there had been moments here and there where it really felt like they were gonna kiss before one or both of them pulled away. But, again, this was all mostly likely in Buck's head.
Right?
Daring to look down at Eddie, he noticed how his eyes were now closed as his breathing had gotten more even. It seemed like Eddie had fallen asleep, looking more peaceful than Buck had seen him in a long time.
His heart was beating loudly in his chest, as his stomach tightened while every fiber in his being lightened up like they were on fire. Buck hitched a breath. He couldn't take it. His love for his best friend encompassed him.
Every night he had nightmares of that day. Of the absolutely devastating fear of losing Eddie. Buck had never been more terrified in his life. But it were moments like this current one where Buck thanked the universe with everything he had that Eddie was here. That he was alive and breathing. That even after getting shot and dealing with the traumatizing struggle of his recovery, Eddie still seemed lighter. More open and sure of himself in a certain vulnerability that Buck had never seen on him before. Like a certain puzzle piece had clicked. And even when there were days where Eddie had been frustrated and angry and just flat out stubborn with his recovery, that lightness had still somehow been there, keeping him grounded.
Eddie was alive. Eddie was getting better. And as he did, Buck was going to continue to be with him as much as possible.
And even though his recovery was going to take a long time between the physical therapy and his therapy for his PTSD, and it was still gonna be a long and hard road, there were still moments where Eddie was happy. Happier than Buck had seen him in a long time even.
Moments like these where it was just Eddie, Buck, and Christopher, being together.
And Buck? Buck could live in these moments forever. As long as he had Eddie and Christopher then he'd be okay.
At that thought he looked away from the sleeping man in his lap to check on Chris. The kid was now laying on the soft carpet, head on one of the couch pillows, now fast asleep just like his dad.
His two Diaz boys. Who had both gone through so much more than anyone should in a lifetime and now were both sleeping happily, with small smiles both on their faces.
Buck's heart clenched in his chest.
Now this? This was what pure happiness felt like.
He then looked back down at the soft expression on Eddie's face as his best friend slept soundly.
Buck couldn't take it anymore.
Sure this was a very bad idea, but his heart felt like it was going to rip out of his chest. His love for the best friend he'll ever have was just too much.
And so, in a moment of weakness, Buck leaned his head down and kissed Eddie's forehead, lingering there for a few seconds or so before whispering in a hushed tone, "I love you."
Eddie's head shifted ever so slightly which made Buck immediately rip his hand away.
His best friend's eyes slowly fluttered open before meeting his gaze.
And there it was. That fond look yet again. But this time it was brighter than Buck had ever seen it before.
Eddie smiled up at him, "I love you too."
And just like that Buck finally knew what that missing puzzle piece Eddie had seemed to find. Because he was now feeling it too as everything fell into place.
Not being able to contain himself anymore, Buck leaned down and placed a small yet emotional-filled kiss on Eddie's lips. His best friend returned the kiss with as much vigor.
After Buck lifted his head up ever so slightly, he placed his forehead against Eddie's as they smiled softly at each other.
Yeah, he could get used to this.

i’m only a little ashamed to say this but i actually shed tears when taylor and buck said they loved each other
and not the happy kind
because, even putting aside anything buddie-related, this just felt so BAD for buck. i think we were supposed to be reading this as buck taking bobby’s advice and actually talking to taylor and things turning out well, but, like… they really didn’t?? taylor was pulling back in their relationship and being distant and rude to buck, buck had to be the one to pry the truth out of her with pointed and firm conversation, he practically had to give her an ultimatum, taylor consistently rejected buck’s offers of emotional support and help, even at first when he showed up in oklahoma, and then she has the audacity to say she loves him for it?!?
it just all feels so one-sided, so about buck trying desperately to be a better partner to taylor and instead of her meeting him halfway, she lets him do all the work and then says she loves him for it. that’s NOT healthy. i honestly can’t think of an instance where taylor has provided support for buck, other than maybe when she brings him coffee and tells him to shower after eddie’s shot. it’s not inherently bad for one partner to need to shoulder a bit more of the labor when the other is going through something, but we just haven’t ever seen them have what feels like a mutually supportive tough moment. and it also picks up on strains of an early bucktaylor scene, when he invited taylor to what ended up being the awkward double date with albert, and it was all framed as buck being an asshole to taylor when she clearly showed up to hook up! and it wasn’t like she’d been some devoted friend to him prior to that either, where he was repaying her kindness by being a jerk. so she hasn’t necessarily done anything to earn his friendship and has in fact been a little shitty for wanting to just hook up again but it’s presented as buck is selfish, buck has to be the one to do better, to be better than buck 1.0.
idk, I think especially in the context of buck’s past, this just all feels so sad and icky to me. it feels like such an abby 2.0, where it’s all about what buck can do for someone else, how he can help them on their journey, and we never see buck with romantic partners who care to help him on his. which makes me want to cry again, because i am the captain of the evan buckley just deserves better ship.

Reasons/signs why buddie is likely to go canon
Hey, Nonnie! Oooo, great question, okay I've got to think about this.
I would say the main reason why Buddie is likely to go canon is because both Buck's and Eddie's stories are so intertwined, it only makes sense for them to get together. Not just as family but also romantically. They are literally the answer to what they're each looking for in a partner. Nothing else makes sense though the show has had quite a few opportunities to veer off of this course for a while now but they haven't taken them, and instead seemed to have double downed on it, getting us closer and closer to Buddie canonization.
As for signs, hmm...
Well, other than seeing Eddie pining for Buck and how much we're getting closer to that portion of the story where it will be confirmed in some way, they've given us more than a few. But I'll pick the main ones:
1) Eddie and Ana breakup - a previous nonnie mentioned how Ana is essentially the perfect woman for Eddie and I agree, she's good on paper (in season 5 at the least), which we saw being shown in that firehouse scene in 5x02. There is literally no reason for these two not to stay together (except for it not being what Eddie wants and their severe lack of chemistry/love). Christopher loves her and from what he said, he obviously expects that a marriage is in the future. She would be a good support for Eddie, she's empathetic and she's always reaching out to him and Christopher physically. She also would be a great partner, not just with Christopher, but also in certain situations like we see in the firehouse scene. She immediately took charge of the situation when it appeared Eddie wasn't going to when it came to Ravi and sort of made it a little easier until the wife mention. And then she rolls with it when Eddie asks Ravi to give her a tour so he can make his escape. She's perfect on paper. So for them to show us this, this late in the game, only to turn around and discard it soon after because it's what's triggering Eddie's panic attacks due to it not being what he wants...to me, that's a huge sign we're heading to a Buddie canonization. Especially, when Ana has been paralleled and contrasted with Buck several times during the short time of her relationship with Eddie. Especially since Buck has to be the one to tell Eddie to let Ana go and not hurt her if she's not what he wants. Especially when for a second there, it became The Buckley Diaz family vs The Flores Diaz family and we know who won out in that round in Eddie's eyes and which one he felt more at ease with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) The parallels - I know we always talk about these but I believe this is one of the most telling signs that we're heading to canon Buddie. Buck has been paralleled to Chim, Hen, Bobby, Athena, Karen, and of course Maddie. Eddie, the same. Not to mention, Buck and Eddie have been continuously paralleled and contrasted to the romantic partners in their lives, both past and present. With all of this foundation being built, with all of these direct parallels and contrasts, there's no way Buddie isn't going canon. They've been weaving this story way too intricately for it to be loosened or unraveled or to start weaving something new for one of the guys or both now.
3) The other relationships around Buddie - time and time again, Buddie has been linked/paralleled/connected to the other canon relationships in the show: Bathena, Henren, and Madney. Not to mention that they've done this within the context of romance, such as the 3x13 scene where Eddie asks Buck if he wants to come over. Which Buck declines and then they go about having Hen confirm she and Karen have a date night, then Bobby has one with Athena, and then Chim wants to spend the night with Maddie, so Buck ends up alone. And they've also done it a few times in framing:
Tumblr media
You have Bathena and Henren on one side, and Madney on the other, with Buddie in between. Not only are they trying to throw strong hints at us but there's literally no reason for them to keep doing this if they didn't plan to make Buddie romantic at some point and endgame (especially when paralleled with Bathena and Henren). If they wanted to only display the deep partnership and friendship, the only relationship they should be paralleling/keep getting connected to is Chim and Hen's partnership/friendship.
4) The stand-ins - each time there seems to be some sort of separation between the two, physically or emotionally or both, they've opted to use stand-ins for both characters. The biggest examples are Lena for Eddie during the lawsuit arc (standing in for Buck), Marjan and TK in the crossover (standing in for both Buck and Eddie respectively) Ana (besides being who Eddie felt he needed to move on with, she's a stand-in for Buck in 4x14), and Taylor (standing in for Eddie in 4x14). The fact that they use stand-ins, to me, is a very big clue. These two have come to rely on each other that much that the story/writers need to provide them with stand-ins, usually in the form of women (and TK, a confirmed gay character who mistakenly thinks Buck is hitting on him at the end of the crossover). They also use smaller characters in the story to be stand-ins for Buck and Eddie as well, in certain situations (not all of them women) and aren't necessarily provided for the other character to interact with, i.e. Corey the gunman in 4x08 was a stand-in for Buck (so was Mr. Nowels), Brian the fake firefighter in 4x06 was a stand-in for Eddie, the guy Eddie beat up over the parking space in 3x05 was a stand-in for Buck, etc. To me, that's a very big tell.
5) 5x01 relationship link - they purposely showed us that there is something missing in each relationship for each guy, even though they have these seemingly perfect partners for these points in these guys' lives and where they're currently at. And it revolved around the physical. For Buck and Taylor, it was sex on the surface but had more to do with the emotional, since we saw Taylor was determined to find the answers about what happened that day than focus on Buck. For Eddie and Ana, we get a hint that their relationship has progressed physically by a comment and reaction, then we see Eddie having a panic attack, but underneath it all, he was triggered by the store clerk mistaking Ana as Christopher's mother, and there is a lot more since Dr. Salazar intimates that Eddie is repressing the anxiety aka something emotional. Not only is that a sort of vague parallel between both relationships, but it's also showing us that there is definitely something missing from both of these dynamics for both guys. (which is why it doesn't surprise me in the least that Eddie is able to talk candidly with Buck in 5x02 and vice versa)
6) Eddie and Buck only seem to be able to be truly vulnerable with one another - this to me, is just a given at this point. Not that we haven't seen Buck be vulnerable with Bobby or even Maddie (I would say Maddie and Eddie are the two people who know Buck the best out of everyone and who Buck can truly be vulnerable with, while Bobby and Buck provide that same dynamic for Eddie), but there's definitely an exclusive window into Buck that Eddie has, with and without Buck's invitation. Eddie sees Buck for who he is and vice versa. To have this unique part of their emotional relationship exist, and then it's contrasted to all of the romantic partner in their lives who can never seem to have that access, is another big sign to me. They could have kept it strictly as two friends, two partners, who just get each other, and that's that. And then eventually a romantic partner would come along for one guy or both who would after a time (and possibly approval from the other, depending how cliche and trope-y they would have wanted to get) gotten that access as well. But they didn't. They've made this vulnerability pretty much exclusive with the exception of Maddie and FireDad.
7) Show making Buckley Diaz family official through legal guardian reveal - if there was ever a big neon sign flashing (without showing us Eddie's feelings) that pointed the way to Buddie, this is it. Is it possible that two friends, two partners, two brothers, could have also had this development without any future romantic implications? Sure. But that's not how it went down. If it did, we would have had the reveal a lot sooner or happening when Eddie first woke up or happening at another time when Eddie is in danger or wounded again (like this alleged hostage situation coming up). But instead they chose this very specific timing and context of when Eddie chose to reveal this information to Buck. Because it absolutely is not about their friendship or Eddie's concern of what will happen to Chris should he not be around anymore. He doesn't even know about the crane climb (at least that we saw). But he chose to reveal it right then because Buck had said it would have been better for Chris if he had been shot. Not to mention they showed us Eddie's reaction to this line:
Tumblr media
Eddie needed Buck to know that he matters to Christopher, to him. That he isn't expendable. And Christopher 99.9% of the time is synonymous with Eddie. And Eddie uses the mention of Christopher as a shield. The legal guardian reveal was all about Eddie, and Buck. And the show purposely chose to put it in this context and within this dynamic and timing when they didn't have to, in order to keep the lines clear. Instead, they double-downed on the Buckley Diaz family and how it would lead us into the next season, and how it would affect these two specifically, whether that be the dynamic at work or outside of it or both.
There are many other signs but these are the top 7 off of the top of my head. Buddie's going canon. There's no two ways about it. And while the relationship may not happen instantly, a conversation (and realization) is definitely due to happen this season. Eddie's feelings are all but glaringly obvious enough that they're written in Sharpie on his forehead and I don't see how Buck can remain oblivious to this fact much longer (or to his own feelings), whether that's him seeing it himself or someone else pointing it out to him.
I hope I was able to answer your question thoroughly, Nonnie! Thank you for the ask! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend!!! <3

The Place You Need To Reach
Finally finished the first chapter of a Buck Begins fic I started...when the episode airs...Biggest of shoutouts to @marjansmarwani for the title help and also all the support and encouragement.  You’re the best!
Read it here on AO3
Bobby’s phone rings loud from the night table, waking him with a start. Looking at the clock he groans, 12:45am glaring at him. Whatever irritation he feels is quickly overridden by Captain Mode. He reaches for his phone, already concerned. It skyrockets to worry when he sees Buck’s name lighting up his screen. He’d been worried when they found out Buck’s parents were visiting. The few vague things he’s heard plus what he's been able to piece together did not paint a pretty picture. Then this morning Buck had been waling on the punching bags while Eddie watched with carefully hidden concern. Bobby had hoped that had gotten some of the overwhelming emotions out, helped the kid get back on solid ground, but a call any time after midnight is never a good sign.
“Buck?” He sits up, getting a grumble from where Athena had been tucked against his shoulder. There’s no answer, just shaky breaths barely audible. “Buck what’s wrong?”
Athena rubs her eyes and turns her laser focus on her husband as she wakes up fully.
Another stuttering breath, followed by a sniffle and all the parental warning bells in Bobby’s head are going haywire. “Buck, c’mon kiddo I need you to talk to me here.”
“Bobby…” Buck sounds wrecked, his voice trembling and small. He sounds young and scared and Bobby shares a nervous look with Athena.
“Where are you?” He starts simple, all his first responders training kicking in to get Buck somewhere safe.
“Um...I just kind of started driving…” The pause on the other end of the line is agonizing. “I’m by the pier.”
That sends all kinds of alarms off in his head again. Buck drove to the pier, completely without thinking, and Bobby changes tactics slightly. He doesn’t just need to get Buck somewhere safe, he needs to get Buck here. “Are you ok to get here or do you need me to pick you up?” He’d drive to the middle of nowhere to get Buck if that’s what the kid needed.
“I can drive.” There’s a hint of stubbornness back in his voice, but it does nothing to settle Bobby’s nerves.
“Ok.” Bobby slips into Captain mode, hoping it helps keep Buck focused and present. “I want you to stay on the phone with me, and come straight here. Can you do that?”
Buck takes a few breaths, gathering himself and when he answers he sounds at least a bit more like himself. Athena is already up, changing into lounge clothes and grabbing her phone. “Yeah Cap, I can do that.”
He nods, more to himself, “good job Buck. You stay with me alright? You don’t have to talk, just listen to my voice and focus on driving.” Grabbing a sweatshirt and his slippers, he tucks the phone against his ear. Buck is so quiet, it’s possibly the longest the kid has gone without talking, especially to Bobby. He always has an obscure fact to share, knowing his Captain was always interested. Sometimes they were ridiculous, or it was something Bobby already knew, but they had bonded over loving weird facts. The way Buck had lit up when he realized Bobby was actually interested had firmly placed him in Bobby’s heart.
Making his way into the kitchen he sees Athena putting the kettle on, kissing her cheek and getting a supportive one armed hug. “How we doin Buck?”
“Almost there.”
“Ok, you’re doing good.” There’s another shaky exhale, and something close to a sob breaking from Buck’s throat. “Hey did you know Einstein issued the patent for Toblerone chocolate?” He doesn’t wait for a response, knows the words don’t matter as much as just having Buck hear his voice. “He was working at the patent office as a way to occupy his brain while figuring out equations.” He keeps offering up facts as he opens the front door. As soon as a familiar jeep parks behind his truck he hangs up.
He meets Buck half way, taking in the hunch of his shoulders and the way he avoids meeting Bobby’s eyes. Wrapping an arm around him he guides the kid inside and gets him settled on the couch.
Athena presses a cup of tea into his hands, sitting next to him with a gentle hand on his arm. Buck deflates at the contact, still not meeting either of their eyes. “What happened Buckaroo?”
Buck’s quiet, mouth twisting and leg bouncing. They give him time, let him gather his thoughts. “I was doing so good...I was getting better and in two dinners they’ve just…undone it all.” He breaks off into a sob and Bobby is moving before he realizes it, sitting on Buck’s other side and pulling him into his arms as Athena takes his mug from shaking hands. Buck falls apart in front of their eyes, years of hurt finally breaking free. “They never...they never cared. When they’d look at me it was like they were staring right through me, they’d barely acknowledge I was there unless I was hurt or I fucked up…then they’d have to look at me…but I was never enough and I tried.” He sounds almost pleading as he chokes the words out through tears. “Bobby, I really tried to be good enough for them to love me and all they could say was how difficult I made it...how difficult we made it for them. I just wanted them to love me and instead they gave up on me.”
“Buck you listen to me right now. You do not have to earn your parents love.” Athena holds his face in her hands, trying to get him to look at her. “Kids are difficult. That’s just called being a kid. Our job as parents is to love our kids no matter what. We love you, no matter what, and we are so so proud of the man you are.”
His eyes meet Athena’s for a moment and then go blank again. A harsh laugh grates out of his chest, “they never even wanted another son...they never wanted me.”
“Buck, what do you mean another son?” Bobby tries to think back on what he knows about Buck’s family, but as far as he’s heard it’s just him and Maddie.
Bobby lets him free of the hug as he tries to get the words out. “I had a brother…he was older and he got sick. They needed bone marrow and no one else in our family was a match.” The pieces fall into place and Bobby wants to vomit. Buck was a savior baby, and like he could hear Bobby’s thoughts he closes his eyes against fresh tears. “They had me for parts. But it didn’t work and Daniel died…and they were stuck with me when I’d already failed to do the only thing I was made for.”
Over where Buck has hunched back over, hiding his face in his hands, Athena and Bobby share a shocked and horrified look. Without hesitating Athena wraps him in a protective hug, eyes fierce even as her voice murmurs comforting nonsense. On the table Bobby’s phone rings, a quick glance showing Eddie’s calling. Bobby places a steady hand on his back, “I’m guessing Eddie’s looking for you? Do you want me to tell him where you are?”
Without moving from the safety of Athena’s arms Buck nods and lets out another choking sob. “I was supposed to come over for movie night…After I left Maddie’s I just sort of, I don’t know I guess I checked out. I don’t even know what time it is.” Suddenly he sits straight up, eyes wide. “Shit! I missed movie night! And it’s probably the middle of the night and I woke you up and—”
Before he can work himself into a full panic Bobby squeezes his shoulder. “It’s ok Buck, we’re here for you whenever you need us. Don’t worry about what time it is.” Internally he’s trying not to let the terror of Buck so out of it he completely lost himself cloud his mind. He needs to keep a clear head, needs to be the steady rock Buck is searching for. “Now do you want me to tell Eddie you’re here?”
“He’s worried I bet…I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to worry him.”
Grabbing his phone Bobby stands and sees multiple missed calls from Eddie and Chimney, “he’ll understand just like we do. We’re all here for you Buck, you’re not alone.” Athena hands Buck his tea, coaxing him to take a few sips while he calls Eddie back. After one ring it picks up and Eddie’s frantic voice fills his ear. “Cap, we can’t find Buck. I don’t know what happened when he went over to Chim and Maddie’s but she’s almost inconsolable and Chimney is flipping out. He won’t answer the phone and he was supposed to come over. Albert said he never went back to the loft either…”
Quickly he steps outside, not wanting Buck to hear how scared Eddie sounds, it would only make him feel worse. “Eddie, take a breath, Buck is here.” He’s about to say that Buck’s alright but there’s no way Eddie would buy it. “He’s here and he’s safe. We’ve got him.”
There’s a sigh of relief and no small amount of swearing in Spanish. “Ok…ok good. I’ll text Chim and let him know.” A pause and then a little quieter, “do you know what happened?”
“His entire world just got turned upside down, it’s not my place to say any more than that…but he’s going to need us, need you, more than ever.” Glancing inside he sees his wife pulling Buck to lean against her again, a strong arm around his shoulders.
“Whatever he needs.” Eddie says simply, a little bit of calm working through his voice now that he knows Buck is safe. “Can Christopher and I come over tomorrow?”
“Of course, I’ll make breakfast.” Thank god they’re off shift tomorrow, Bobby has no idea how they’d manage to convince Buck to take the day off. The kid would almost immediately take it as a sign he’d done something wrong. So much of his behavior, his actions, are suddenly making sense and Bobby would very much like to have strong words with Buck’s parents. “Get some rest Eddie, I’ll call you if anything changes but we’ll see you in the morning.”
“Right, thank you Bobby.”
“Of course Eddie, take care of yourself and get some sleep.” Bobby hangs up and walks back inside and immediately Buck’s eyes shoot to his. “He’s not mad Buck, he’s just worried about you. I told him to bring Christopher over for breakfast.”
Buck looks completely drained as he sags with relief. His eyes are red and puffy and exhaustion radiates from every line of his body. With a quick squeeze Athena stands, “I’ll get the guest room all set up for you.” Buck looks like he’s about to apologize and Bobby’s heart breaks. “Don’t you dare apologize,” Athena says firmly. “You’re not being any trouble and we want you here. I know I’ll feel better if I know you’re here safe and sound.”
“Thank you…” Buck smiles at her, still subdued but genuine. Athena pauses to kiss the top of his head before heading down the hallway. Bobby takes her place on the couch and can’t help wrapping an arm around Buck in another protective hug. “I think you and Athena have hugged me more tonight than my parents have in my whole life…” Buck admits and Bobby wants to smack some sense into these people.
Anyone who’s spent more than 15 minutes with Buck can tell he thrives on physical contact. He takes every opportunity to be close to the people he loves. It’s the most obvious with Eddie, who’s always accepted Buck into his personal space even before they started to slide from friends to more, but Buck is quick with his affection and gets this almost surprised glee when he gets some in return. He soaks up love like a sponge and now they know why.
Athena comes back a few minutes later, giving them a fond look. “What do you think kiddo? Wanna try and get some sleep?” Bobby asks, rubbing a hand over Buck’s back.
“Yeah…I’m pretty drained Pops.” Together they stand up from the couch and follow Athena through the hallway.
“I put a pair of Bobby’s sweat pants and a sweatshirt on the bed.” Athena hugs him again, managing to tuck him against her so Buck looks small in her arms. He sniffles a little and steps back with a twist to his mouth.
Giving him a supportive pat on the shoulder, Bobby smiles at him. “We’re at the end of the hall if you need us.” Buck surprises him by reaching out and wrapping his arms around Bobby, squeezing tight before stepping back with a nod. “Thanks again…Goodnight.”
“Goodnight Buckaroo.” Athena smiles and grabs Bobby’s hand as they head to their room. They hear the door shut just as they shut their own and Bobby’s shoulders sag. Athena on the other hand starts pacing, eyes stormed over. “No wonder he was like that when he first came here. It was probably the only way he thought he could get any attention…we see it all the time with neglected kids.” Suddenly she pauses, spinning to face Bobby. “And Maddie! They probably made her keep it a secret…that poor girl had to just ignore that her brother had died and become a parent to the other one.”
Bobby rubs his hands over his face. “Eddie said she’s beside herself…inconsolable is the word he used…”
“I’ll call her in the morning and check on her.” Athena decides, finally crawling back into bed. Joining her under the covers, Bobby pulls her into his arms and takes comfort in the way she grips him just as tight. It’s a long time before they manage to fall asleep.
~~
Buck leans against the door as it shuts. He feels…empty isn't the right word. More like he's been hollowed out and filled with cotton stuffing, nothing left in him but lumps and cheap fiber. Pulling his wallet and keys out of his pocket he tosses them on the night table, pausing as he pulls his phone out next. He turns it over in his hands as he sits on the bed, debating turning do not disturb off or ignoring the shitstorm that's probably growing in his notifications.
Taking a deep breath he sets it down and changes into his borrowed pjs. The sweatpants are a little big but actually long enough for once, and the sweatshirt is just loose enough it wraps him in comfort. Curling up under the blankets, Buck lets the feeling of safety wash over him. Snatching his phone from where he’d set it on the table he checks his battery life. It’s low but enough for him to pull up his recent calls and quickly select Eddie’s name.
It’s only two rings before the line picks up, “Buck?”
“Hey Eds…”
“Buck, baby are you ok?” Eddie goes from groggy to awake in a heartbeat and Buck closes his eyes against the worry staining his voice.
“Not really…no, but I’m better than I was.” He’s too tired to pretend right now, breath hitching, “I’m so sorry Eddie…I know Christopher is probably mad at me and I’m sure you are too 'cause I let him down and I didn’t mean to worry you…”
“Hey hey hey, it’s ok Buck.” Eddie cuts off the frantic apologies that seem to be forcing themselves from his throat. “Take a breath for me.”
There’s no way Buck can resist the softness in his words, following the gentle instructions until his breathing settles down. “I’m not mad Buck,” Eddie continues now that Buck’s not halfway to hyperventilating, “and neither is Christopher. We were worried about you, but you’re somewhere safe and that’s what matters.”
“Did you tell Maddie and Chim where I was?” Buck knows he probably did, he highly doubts they didn’t blow Eddie’s phone up when Buck went radio silent.
There’s a sigh on the other end of the phone, “yeah…They were terrified.” Buck feels a weird mix of guilt and anger flare up, and Eddie reads his mind as always. “I also told them to let you come to them, and to give you some space.” He hears the shifting of blankets before Eddie continues, “I know that whatever happened feels like your entire world just blew up…But remember that me and Christopher are here and we love you. Whatever it was, we'll be right here with you, ok?”
“Ok…I love you both too.” Buck wraps Eddie’s words around him, another layer of warmth under the borrowed sweatshirt. “Hey babe?” Eddie hums in questions. “Can you stay on the phone a little longer?”
“Yeah, I’m here Buck, for as long as you need me.”
It’s mostly quiet after that, a few murmured words of comfort and affection passed back and forth, but eventually Buck hears Eddie’s breathing even out and lets it soothe him enough to close his own eyes.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
Self rec? I have to pick amongst my children fics? this is like terrible. so terrible @radio-chatter
But if I have to pick…. In no particular order a cross section, if you will, of my various writing tendencies:
1) An Andromeda Tale: The Making of a Pathfinder and a King. Mass Effect Andromeda, the slowest of slow burns MReyder endgame fic.  This is my magnum opus MReyder fic that I swear to Anubis I will finish it eventually.  It’s at >600k and still going.  This was I think the first thing I published on AO3 (or close to it).
Summary: Scott Ryder never saw his life going this way, not that anyone ever asked him his opinion. Now he's pathfinder with too many people depending on his young shoulders and trying to figure out what he actually wants for himself. Reyes Vidal, man of mystery, former pilot and now sometimes smuggler. Who knows where he came from or his motivations but he's come to Andromeda to change his destiny. What neither Scott nor Reyes could have predicted is what their lives would be once they came to Andromeda.
2.  The Dream of the Symbiote’s Host.  Venom.  Symbrock. Complete at 4,511 words. What can I say?  I never thought I’d write tentacle porn but I suppose this is why you should never say never.  It’s a one shot and well…. Yeah it was fun to write.  Might someday dip my toes back in the Symbrock pairing.  I’m also totally blaming this one on you @radio-chatter.
Summary: Eddie’s been holding out on Venom. An accidental side trip into an interior decorations shop reveals something he hadn’t intended for Venom to ever learn about him and it’s all that art print’s fault.
3. Family, Familia, ’Ohana. 911, H50 and SWAT crossover. Eventual Buddie, McDanno and implied Hondo/Deacon platonic (or not). Navyseal!EvanBuckley. Wip at 81,451 words. This is my other, more popular, long work. I just love the pairings involved and my imagination was fed too much Jack Johnson music and this happened. Also my most popular fic on AO3 by a good margin.
Summary: When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.
4. The Outlaw and the Cartel Boss. Mayans MC. Miguel Galindo/Ezekiel ”EZ” Reyes, Coco Cruz/Angel Reyes. WIP at 98,569 words. Sentinel/Guide AU that ignores almost everything canon. Everyone has that extreme rarepair, can’t exist in canon idea that is possibly overindulgent. This is my version of that. I haven’t even seen much of the show but I really love the work of several of the actors in this show so I smashed my minimal knowledge in with my favorite fanfiction trope and this is what you get. It’s still a wip. I know I haven’t posted in a while but I am still—very slowly—working on it. I think this is the most developed sentinel/guide story I’ve written so far but it’s a trope that I’ve revisited several times now (see my versions of Buddie and Mreyder for this trope too).
Summary: EZ Reyes came online with his mother’s violent death and suffered the consequences of his actions in the aftermath. When Jimenez offers him a deal to turn evidence in on the Galindo cartel, he agreed as he’d brought shame on his tribe by his actions and it was a chance at redemption that he didn’t feel he deserved. He just didn’t anticipate who his guide would be and the amount of trouble they’d generate for him. Miguel had goals—to legitimize the family business, enjoy life and his family. He didn’t anticipate any of the events that forced him online as a guide but now that he has a sentinel he’s not letting him go.
5. A Soul’s Weight. Mass Effect Andromeda. Implied eventual MReyder. Complete. 1,376 words. Does not require any knowledge of Mass Effect. I debated a long time which other fic to recommend to people but this is a short one-off I wrote in literally about an hour that I still find myself coming back to again and again and debating writing more in this particular alternative universe. It’s quite different from most of my other writing but I think that’s also what makes it so interesting. Ancient egyptian diety? Implied multiverse? Taking fanon to the limits? Guilty. Short but sweet but would be the intro to MReyder of mine that I would recommend. Or I suppose you could read Seguir (another AU).
Summary: The futures he had seen taunted him, drew him, seduced him. The possibilities that Scott Ryder presented were... intriguing.  The cry of the ibis called across the sands, chased by the howls of the golden wolves of Anubis that hunted this night.
