#random personal stuff#I get it everyone in church wants to fuss over the babies#who are very cute and I'm glad that they're loved! they should be!#but I'd like to put in a good word *also* for a group who tend to get overlooked and undervalued#and that's older kids#once you get past baby age in the church circles I'm familiar with#you are no longer an object of adoration and are now a nuisance a burden and a problem that needs to be suppressed and contained#parents will openly complain about them and heaven forbid anyone reach adolescence because then they're regarded as next-door to a monster#and not many people are really listening to older kids or thinking about what they might need as human beings#which is connection and knowing that people give a darn about them personally#and don't just see them as something to be 'kept busy' or as free labor/babysitting for younger nuisances#I have the most interesting conversations with these kids#they're bright and hilarious and passionate about all kinds of things#and they're dealing with more than most adults seem to realize or take seriously#I remember being that age very vividly and the adult whom I wanted to be around the most was my aunt whenever she visited#because she actually took the time to listen to me and put up my jawing about [current obsession]#probably took a lot of patience on her part but I appreciated it so much#it made me feel like I mattered#sometimes the kids at church will talk to me and I want to be for them the kind of adult my aunt was for me#they ARE worth listening to!#everybody at every stage of life is worth caring about

pick a pile: "What would your Guides like to tell you right now"
take a breath and choose the photo or number that calls you the most to read about a message your Guides may have been trying to deliver you but for a reason or another you may be oblivious to it or not realize it/not understand it properly/fear not getting it right.
don’t take the reading too seriously. only take what resonates with you and leave the rest. if you're not called by any pile, let this reading slid as it may not hold messages for you. if you're called by more than one pile, there may be messages in each of those piles. remember that is a general reading and some things may not resonate with you. energies can change and readings are based on present ones (as you read); you're always in charge of your life.

pile 1
I think you may have an idea or have a random sign in front of you or a message/call from your guts, but you're not quite aware of it, of its meaning, of what it is for. Or, you cannot see/understand it correctly (or fear this). It seems very confused, like those games you're given letters and need to form words from those but you really have no clue where to start from. Blank page. You know, you are probably also given the instructions to form those words, but you're not seeing them or are pretending not to. You're too focused on something else, on only one side of the matter. You're not looking at the whole picture, probably out of fear you'll hear something you don't want to hear. So you may even panic and stress a lot, and honestly this is of no help in seeing the missing piece, in finding clarity. Confusion brings clouds in thinking. And it brings stress, and anxiety and spiralling... you know the drill. Take a breath and try to stay grounded. I don't think you'll hear anything you don't want to hear. And even if this was the case, I somehow think you know it won't mean anything so drastic for you. It feels more like a childhood wound you need to heal, and to do it, you need to be "more of an adult" and take the courage to listen to your message. Have no fear. It doesn't have to be as it has always been. It doesn't have to be another "no". But you need to receive the right type of guidance to get over this problem that is keeping you in the past, caging you and making you re-live the old life. You're not going there, you're going somewhere else. Be open to what good will happen to you. And remember to take care of your inner child, they need your support, to know you can help and protect them, to know they're safe and things will go well and you're there with them (especially if no one was there for you when you needed). So stop with the stressing, take a breath and be brave. It's gonna be okay. And let it all in, people and love, of any type. Don't be scared, you can always choose what's best for you.

I think you're healing something, something pretty big too, but... there's something else that doesn't feel quite there yet. Something that bothers you and you cannot really understand what it is. It's like, you've tried to see the problem also from another perspective, but it doesn't work either. You seem a bit lost on this detail. Maybe cause you think it's important too, or cause... you're a perfectionist? What is this annoyance about? To find out, you are called to stop and meditate. It seems you're trying to avoid looking at it in a very deep meaningful way. You maybe thought you had healed that or it's not a big deal, but if it's so bothering you then maybe you need to check it better instead of just pretending is not there and occasionally get annoyed or confused about it. (If you cannot do it alone, ask for help in the process, please). If all you've done has been trying to be perfect to be accepted, you're asked to stop and see if this is really worth it, if this is really how things are supposed to be (spoiler: no, that's not so. You are deserving just cause you're existing). But in general, you've probably been stressing over many things, maybe you also had to take care of others or things you weren't supposed to care for... I'm suddenly so tired tbh. It feels like you're draining yourself with all these thoughts, preoccupations and stress over the smallest thing/flaw you can find (especially in you: were you judged a lot in your past?). But it's all in the past. It's what you used to do. And it has never give you anything much back, right?Except for problems and pain and uncertainty and... stress. Your Guides want to tell you it's time to stop with this self inflicted torment: you're here to enjoy too, it doesn't matter if you're not "perfect" (what does perfect even mean? We all have our own definition of perfect, and it can be something flawed too). You don't have to be perfect, and the things you do don't have either. You can be lousy, it's okay. And if someone cares, is cause of their own problem, not yours. It's time to start something new, to be more kind and generous with yourself, and forgive yourself if you have tried to be so strict on you and may try again: it will change, take your time.

You may have problems in having others see the real you. And you're healing that part of you, the one that relates with creating healthy boundaries and standing up for yourself. The one that calls for you to follow you heart. The one that suggests that such a change is good, to not agree with others but having your opinins and ideas is fine. It's not lack of respect, is just you being you. Lack of respect is imposing your opnions and ideas on others without asking them anything, and never listening nor compromising. Is having others following you blindly. You don't have to follow anyone you don't agree with. Create your own knowledge, your own set of beliefs and values, and stick to them. Live your life accordingly. I think for some of you it may be about love too. You don't have to let the other take advantage of you or fear losing them if you disagree. Just be you. You're lovable and worthy. Don't let others tell you what to think or what you need, how can they know for sure? For a few of you, your counterpart/soulmate may be trying to contact you and remind you to work on this side of you before the meeting, which may happen not too far from now. But they want you to be ready and be you (as they're themselves). This way, they'll be able to recognize you as part of them. Don't let your insecurities and fears take over your life and govern it for you. You're in charge, only you. You can talk with them and show them there's nothing to really be scared of. It's not a life threat to say "no" and disagree with others. It doesn't mean anything. Also, if it ever happens with friends, family and partners: it's okay to not agree on everything. You can be two different people with different ideas and still love and appreciate each other (be more grounded when it comes to romantic love: a Disney-like relationship, it's not very likely to happen irl). You won't end up alone, or anyway you'll free yourself from people that you're not supposed to be with, so to welcome those you are. Go after what you want. Let your true self be seen and true needs be met by letting others know about them. No more masks.

There's only a little your Guides want to tell you. Probably cause you're supposed to find the answer on your own. They may be giving you a general advice/suggestion, a hint even, but you need to follow your guts and see yourself what to do next. I do think it's about a decision you need to make on your future or something you have to find out. Or even learn, for some of you. It's like something written, that needs to happen anyway, so you better be the one making this choice and/or getting to it. So rely on your courage and take a leap and see yourself what's next. Live through it. Enjoy the process. Create your abundance. I think this may be also about any of your manifestations (that's why all the secrets), and you may have an idea of how things may develop and you feel kinda hyped/happy/positive about it, but you're not so sure at the end of the day (yeah, human doubts!). Still, your Guides are saying that you have to realize it yourself. Probably cause the happiness will be enhanced, probably cause you have to learn something on the way. Maybe how to deal with these doubts/insecurities too and not let them come in between your manifestations anymore. Probably cause you need to be more courageous or open to receive. You're not like pile 1 though, your energy is more open and wild, more accepting. You know there's something in store for you, and you know your heart feels it as well. So yep, I do think it's all about learning to trust the process and yourself, to believe. Even if maybe you've been deceived or told lies most of your life. It can be different, you can trust now. Not everyone is a liar or will give you mixed signals. Not evrything will end up in you having to be okay with something else. Keep healing this emotional side of yours and support yourself through this amazing journey ahead (you're not alone anyway, your Guides aren't going anywhere ofc).

Barn Anon. Bet Space Marines give other Space Marines a discount price. They know for sure which human businesses aren't to be trusted. I headcannon that Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors have construction companies of their own where the humans are more for admin and communication with human clients. They're in high demand but they'll give a bit more priority to fellow Space Marines.
Your Space Marine effortlessly plucked the heavy bag of groceries from your hands. He refuses to let you hold anything more than the carton of eggs that you're currently holding. You raise your eyebrow at the sight of an Imperial Fist moving about the back porch. Your Space Marine nudges you along, a soft hum from him as he steers you straight to the kitchen. You're aware that your own Space Marine is a bit of a social butterfly with his fellow Space Marines but this is the first time you've seen this particular Imperial Fist. They tend to stick to the south side of the state. You live in the north.
Your Space Marine puts the bags on the island, patting you on the head before he heads out to speak to the Imperial Fist. You tilt your head curiously when you see the Imperial Fist pointing at certain parts. You had off-handedly mentioned to your Space Marine that you feel like redoing your back porch now that some of the wood flooring is starting to wear down. You are aware that the porch was build a decade before you bought the house and it seems it's time for a new look for it. You didn't think he would take it this seriously.
You had included him when you looked over various contractors and at some designs online. It was only polite given how he lives here most of the week. He does disappear a few days a week but that's normal for Space Marines. He had expressed his preferences design wise but was visibly unsatisfied with the contractors you found. He had said something to you but you couldn't understand a single word. He disappeared soon after that rather one-sided conversation and later that night you heard two set of heavy footsteps. Now you realize that he found human contractors insufficient and sought to find one that was more to his standards.
When he comes back in from the back, you teasingly tell him that human contractors would be out of business at this rate. The Imperial Fist outside clearly heard as you would hear a bark of laughter from outside. Your Space Marine only shrugs. You're his human, of course he would make sure you get the best.
Post
Uh 100% I was thinking about writing this in for some of Orn trying to get a discount from another Iron Warrior on lumber in exchange for chopping down some trees on the readers property.
But you've brought it up. Thing is this goes into the business of payment if he is with a company that does employ humans then of course some sort of cash would be exchanged but it's always cheaper than human contractors but then again you need to have an Astarte to even get in contact with them.
I think there is also a side payment in terms of far more bartering on the Astarte's half as given they were so use to getting whatever they wanted they probably have their own exchange system in lore when dealing with other Chapters.
You pat the gold armor of your blue helmed Lion as he treats you like a child but you're a young adult capable of handling everything but your Astarte treats you like a child. He seems a bit nervous about things... you've done your research and you can hardly find any information on your boy except that he is very friendly with Imperial Fists.
You can tell your boy does enjoy to provide and protect as it seems he is very caring but very distrusting of certain organizations it seems. He drew a symbol on a piece of paper for her to watch out for but you tell him there aren't any symbols like that but you'll be the first to let him know if you do see it.

JDA Asks: "STOP- STOP STOP STOP STOP—
-JDA HERE OK STOP IT STOP-
I LOVE HIM !! I LOVE Z SO MUCH ALREADY the uh— that one thingy about finding them all beated up at a random ally (or alley I have no idea English is so hard LMFAO—) sorta woke something in me should I be worried? yeah I should- also the thingy about easily flustered people was so sweet idk why,,,
Another question uh- do you have any headcanons for him? Okay wait let me— I like to think of random headcanons for my own Ocs then realize “wait they’re mine so technically they can be canon,,???” BUT ALSO NO??? LIKE LMFAO WHY WOULD I DO THAT LETS JUST KEEP IT AS A RANDOM FANTASY- idk if that made sense I just hope it’s understandable no don’t expect me to explain it again I have no idea how to put words together in order for them to make sense.
-silly example, that one fact about Bun liking reptiles started off as a joke with a friend then I started liking the idea turning it into a silly hc and now she’s just a reptile freak yeah fun-"
Tumblr media
Yesssss!!! Seeing a pretty man in distress is so hot!!! Z simply looks very good bruised and bloody~
He goes feral for people who are easily flustered!! He sees someone cute and he needs to make them feel good!!
Oooooh yes, I know exactly what you mean!! Ummmm let's see... these all started as joke headcanons but then became canon:
He has absolutely shit eyesight. Like he needs very strong prescription glasses. Technically, he owns a pair, but he just doesn't bother to use them most of the time. Instead he just squints at everything, which makes him seem more intimidating than he actually is
If he gets part of him cut off, like his arm or something, he just boils a kettle and pours the water on the two bits that need to be reattached and then just... jams them together and waits for the clay to dry again?
Oooooh this one kinda goes back to the idea of turn offs, he once found out that a guy he was dating (a vampire named Charles) had previously dated his grandfather and he immediately dumped the guy. It was just too fuckin weird for him. His grandpa thought it was very funny though
(Just in general, his exes are very interesting imo. I've got like 12 or so of them fleshed out, and they're quite the line-up. Z has... some interesting tastes)
He and his spouse had a very romantic meet cute where Nik killed the guy who was beating Zander up, and Zander was not thrilled about it, but was very into the tiny angry person who just committed murder in front of him. And then Nik couldn't get rid of Z because he was enamoured with them
His grandfather (on the golem side) prefers to take the form of a cat so he can more easily keep an eye on Z. This does lead to Z picking up a giant fluffy grey cat and introducing him to people as his grandpa, 100% seriously and with no understanding that this may confuse people or make them think it's a joke
He was a baby at one point, and did sort of half do the whole "childhood and growing up" thing because his mum wanted him to, but once he hit about 14 he said fuck it and just kinda... became an adult. He didn't wanna have to deal with that bullshit anymore, and his mum had already sent him away to the circus when he was 10 so he realised he didn't have to be a child for her anymore
He loves worms, they're his favourite animal!

April 25: MSCL 1x11 Life of Brian
I tend to think of Life of Brian as a lighter episode, especially after Other People's Mothers, but it left me with a certain melancholy. I also enjoyed it a lot more than I think I did the last time I watched it.
I think the overall moral of this story is that 15 year olds should not date. They should just hang out together, like in a bunch. If all of them had gone together, like actually in a group, instead of making gestures toward a group situation while actually constantly plotting dates for themselves or others, they would have had more fun. The obvious evidence is my BroTP Rickie & Delia getting down together at the end. The two people most screwed by others' selfish plans, and they find platonic happiness together. It's very fitting. Watching their dance always makes me happy. This time it also struck me how... it was a really sexualized dance, but it wasn't sexual, because you know that they're just having fun together. Like this whole ep, kids were playing at being adults, and being really ham-fisted, and hurting each other in the process, and here were two kids playing at being adults but not taking it seriously at all, just having a good time--as the dance was supposed to be about.
Even Sharon, who did have a date, seemed unhappy realizing that the carefree happiness Delia and Rickie had wasn't accessible to her. Just like in Halloween. She wants to be less grown up than she is. Also, I enjoyed how into the dancing Kyle was and I don't think he's a bad guy, but he is dead weight for her.
I'm not sure what to make of Corey and never have been. I liked him, for what little we see of him, and it would have been cool to see more of him. But, like, what was supposed to be his deal? Was he gay? Was he into Rayanne? Was he totally oblivious to any possibility of dance-romance? I'm sort of inclined to the last but like... so hard to tell.
The Jordan and Angela scene outside at the dance was so hot. Why are you like this? The way you are. You know he's been wanting to ask her that since the pilot. I'm just... oh, Jordan. He came to that dance for her, and he wanted to stay with her, but he's too overwhelmed. And now Angela has the first glimpse that maybe he sees her as mysterious and interesting, just like she sees him. (Fitting that this revelation occurred in an ep where she doesn't narrate?)
There were times when I felt a little weird about some of the characterization and dialogue in this ep, and yet at the same time, it made me really excited about these characters and desiring, again, to try out writing some fic. But I'm also scared. I'm scared to try to capture them. Rickie, for example, is really funny and can be really dramatic, but that shouldn't be overdone. I'm not sure how to capture that balance.
And Brian. I have this headcanon/belief that Brian and Angela are great as friends but would be horrible together in a relationship because they would bring out the worst in each other. Like here, where they don't dance even though at different points they both wanted to. I also... hard to explain, but I feel like they have sort of similar faults. Similar selfishness maybe? Similar obliviousness to how their selfishness comes off? They both call the other one cold-hearted. They're not totally wrong, but somehow it feels to me like that's most true around each other. I'm not sure if any of this is making sense or how I'd demonstrate it but it's just a half-thought in my mind.
Rayanne struck me as a bit mean in this episode, especially in the science room scene. I'm not sure if that was just... this particular writer's take on her or a commentary on the last ep. She definitely seems more erratic also. One thing about her is that it's hard to tell what is an act or a lie. She faked being upset about the gun really well in Guns and Gossip, and I did read that as mostly or entirely an act. But when she cried in her counselor's office? Was that real? Was it real and she was trying to make light of it, or was it just another act? Was she really warned away from the dance? I think not, I think she always intended to ditch Rickie and Corey as part of her set up, but it's hard to tell. I think here she's in full-on protective-shell mode: scheming to be in control, selfishly ignoring Rickie's actual and stated wants, being a bit of a jerk about the dance because if she cares about nothing and no one, they can never hurt her. I think this is a real break in the Rickie and Rayanne relationship: in the past, she has helped him by really helping him, but here, her meddling becomes just another burden for him. I think Rayanne really does accept Rickie's sexuality 100% (and not just because she is a self-closeted queer person herself) but she isn't good at seeing or understanding how he does not yet accept himself.
More of a tangent there than I was expecting. I love all the little hints that all the kids are already essentially a Gang: like Angela and Rickie both agreeing that World Happiness is SUCH a Sharon theme, or Brian affirmatively calling Rickie his friend.
I like thinking about the dynamics and potential dynamics between Angela's parents and her friends. Graham and Brian seem to get along pretty well and understand each other decently. I think Patty likes/will really like Jordan. Patty and Sharon have similar personality types (fixers, meddlers). Patty I think likes both Rayanne and Rickie more than she is at first willing to admit, though they make her nervous (for different reasons).
Much to think about. I wish I had the time and brain for it now! But I must get to bed soon.

Your Boy, No?
Tumblr media
pairing: bully!Jungkook x nerdy!fem!Reader
genre: drabble, smut, college au
synopsis: You can't stand seeing Jungkook with another girl, so you give him a piece of your mind in a stranger's bedroom by becoming his outlet of sexual frustration.
warnings: losing virginity, riding, degradation
a/n: jungkook's character is not exactly submissive, so i added my own twists to this request. i hope you don't mind @madygswich c:

Tumblr media
You can't stop pouting. Holding back tears when seeing a woman perched up on Jungkook's lap while they make out has proven to be difficult, but you're trying. It hurts your heart; hell, you're aching everywhere. It doesn't take a genius to know he's doing it to get a reaction out of you when his eyes are throwing daggers at you with his tongue down another girl's throat.
Following Jungkook around like a lost puppy isn't ideal, especially at a frat party. He never gives you the time of the day if it's not out of menace, but you aren't willing to give up on him. It's just not possible when you are so in love with him, and so fucking jealous.
More than Jungkook, you're mad at the girl. You want to rip her heart out, make her suffer for ever touching the love of your life. You're becoming irrational, mentally cussing her out for being a whore while you stop yourself from breaking down in a house filled with horny young adults. You don't know a single person here, and you have to deal with your pent up emotions all by yourself.
You choke out a sob when Jungkook starts kneading the girl's ass shamelessly with her skirt hiked up to her back. They're being so inappropriate in the kitchen of a stranger's house, while you can't even take a sip from your spiked drink in the bustling living room. You abruptly stand up and throw away your plastic cup when Jungkook's hand disappears elsewhere, and you have an idea of what he's about to do. You march over to him, looking absolutely tiny next to the overbearing college students and you don't notice Jungkook's sinister smile as he watches you fume.
"Let go," you sound hoarse, and not at all intimidating when you push the girl off of his lap. She stumbles at the force, but you pay no mind to her confusion as you pull Jungkook up by his arm to drag him away. You think it's the anger and adrenaline giving you so much strength, but it's Jungkook amusing himself by allowing you to take him upstairs.
"This isn't a therapy session, little girl," he yells over the music, "I didn't come here to listen to you cry."
You huff and let a single tear slip before harshly wiping it away. When you reach the hallway, you enter the first bedroom you find. It's occupied by a foreplaying couple, but you're driven as you hiss, "Out!"
They leave at your demand, and you're confusing a lot of people tonight. Jungkook is surprised by your sudden aggression, but he doesn't stop with his remarks, "the chihuahua's gone mad."
"Shut up, Jungkook!" you whirl around angrily to face him. "How could you do that to me?!"
He quirks a brow. "Do what to you? I'm sorry, am I the one who forcefully brought you here? Am I tripping or are you?"
You push at his chest, "you're a fucking whore! Tonguing a girl in front of everyone, in front of me?"
His shoulders shake in silent laughter and you cross your arms when he starts cackling loudly. The music is drowned out and muffled behind the door, but it's nothing compared to how hysterically Jungkook is laughing.
"What's so funny?" you ask lamely. He throws his head back as he clutches his stomach, and you're starting to get annoyed. You push him on the bed, but he's still laughing. "Quit it already," your voice wavers, but you don't back down as you smack his chest. You place your knees on both sides of his hips to limit his movement and cover his mouth to shut him up.
His crescent eyes turn intense instantly as he glares at you under his hooded lids. He exerts only a tiny bit of his energy into pushing your hand away and you weakly collapse on him. It's foul play to compete with his muscles, and you realize he can snap you in half if he wanted to regardless of your rush of adrenaline.
You sit back up as he lowly speaks, "The fuck's it to you? I wanted to fuck her, and I was going to until you stepped in as if you're my girlfriend. Tell me why I shouldn't go back to her right now." He clasps his hands under his head, making himself comfortable with your weight pressing against his crotch.
"You know why," you huff with a frown, and you look so cute in the dim lighting with your baggy knitted sweater bunching up on the sleeves, sitting on his bulge with so much innocence in your expression. He's smitten, but it doesn't show in his cold stare. "I'm your girl, and I won't tolerate you messing around with other women. It's slutty!" You slightly bounce for emphasis, but your knee-length skirt hides your actions. Jungkook feels it with you, and his eyes trail down to your lower region.
"My girl?" he parrots with a raised brow. He gazes back into your eyes. "You do my homework."
"I don't care. I love you," you plead pathetically, "please say you love me back."
"Wasn't I a whore just a second ago?"
"You were! Apologize to me," you harshly yank his head back by his hair. He doesn't react in the slightest, so you softly add, "please."
"Oh little girl," he sighs, "are you really trying to dominate me right now?"
"I am dominating you. Promise me you won't kiss another girl like that again. I won't forgive you a second time."
"Yeah? What's my loss?"
"Well, you're lazy in school," you bluntly state, "and no one loves you like I do. No one would try to cater to you like I do. I'd do anything for you, Kookie." You tug down your skirt to take it off and plop back down on him before saying, "Including sex. You can only use me for your sexual needs."
He's enamored by your words, but he doesn't dare share it with you. Instead, he thrusts upwards and you yelp when you jump. "Go on then," he says nonchalantly. "Show me how much of a slut you are."
"U-Um, okay," you stutter and start unzipping his black denim jeans. You've seen a lot of porn videos to make sure you were prepared for the next step with Jungkook, but you have no experience with penetration.
And he realizes that rather quickly when you're so meek with your actions. With a groan, he asks, "You're not a fucking virgin, are you?"
"I've been saving it for the right guy," you answer with offence. This is a special occasion, and you want him to take it as seriously as you do. But it's definitely not a good idea to be snarky with him when you can barely remember the steps for safe sex. "Do you have a condom?"
"It's in my pocket," he grumbles and points at his front without taking it out himself. You're excited and nervous as you tear the wrapper and take out the preservative. You have no idea how to put it on, but you're topping so you clumsily push down his briefs. Jungkook is surprisingly throbbing under you, and you blush at the sight of his erection.
He stops himself from teasing you and saying that the girl from earlier gave him this boner, but he doesn't want to be cruel yet. It's your first time, and truthfully, he jacks off to thought of you too often anyway. He can handle being somewhat nice by staying quiet, but that doesn't mean he would teach you how to put on a condom.
You slip it on with little struggle, and don't waste any time in positioning his cock in your entrance. Before he can stop you, you sink down on his length with a painful moan. He wants to tell you that losing your virginity in this position is the most painful, but instead he groans, "Holy shit, how are you so fucking tight?"
It hurts so fucking bad. Your tear ducts are like clockwork as they water instantly, but you lower yourself down to the hilt anyway. You're quite literally sitting on his cock as you try to catch your breath because God, you're in so much pain.
"Fuck, are you okay?" he asks, but he's more worried about controlling himself from fucking into you before you can adjust. It's difficult, but he's trying.
"Jungkook," you whimper quietly with your eyes screwed shut, "it hurts."
"You're so fucking dumb for doing this, but you feel so fucking good," he pants as he holds your hips.
"Thank you," you muster out in a breath. A few seconds pass until the pain starts to numb, and you move against him very slowly. Your walls are stinging, but it feels like Heaven for Jungkook who you clench down on.
"Go up and down," he instructs with a bit lip. He tries to move your hips, but you're resisting in fear of another shock of pain. "Come on!"
"Can you wait?" you hiss through clenched teeth.
He's trying to rile you up when he says, "Sana wouldn't take this fucking long."
And it works, because you bounce once. "Don't say her name!"
He groans at your tightness, and he can't believe how wet you are. You're dripping on him, and he curses himself for holding back because of your hopeless romance. He can't entertain your conservative way of going on about this any longer, so he continues, "She would have made me cum by now, but this prissy princess can't even get a move on."
It's almost pathetic how one push from Jungkook makes you start moving, and it feels less uncomfortable to hop up and down against his pelvis. The filthy sound of slapping skin mixing with the generic radio music is making you feel so slutty because it's so stereotypical, but when Jungkook moans, it brings heat all over your body. You take your sweater off when sweat begins to cumulate on your temples, and he commands, "Take off your bra too."
He's thrusting into you as you unclasp the black material, freeing your breasts as he finds his new eyecandies. You are so pretty, your nipples are so hard, and your cunt sucks him in so perfectly. It almost upsets him when he realizes how much pleasure he's deprived himself of; the amount only you seem to be able to provide, because it's beyond physical intimacy.
"Good girl," he exhales and gently slams into you with his hands fondling your tits. You smile coyly through your tears, and he asks, "Does it still hurt?"
You contemplate for a second, because you don't feel the best yet, but you don't want to disappoint Jungkook either. "I-It doesn't," you lie.
Jungkook mentally rolls his eyes; he really wants to believe you so he can chase his high, but he sees right through you. He slaps your tit without mercy and chastises you, "don't lie. I thought this was your little moment of control."
"I'm sorry," you pout as you slowly ride him.
"Another lie," he slaps your other tit more harshly and you yelp.
"I'm not lying!" you plead and hasten your pace, desperate to sell your lie. It's working, because you're starting to feel a knot in your stomach the more you adjust.
He moans with you, and you lose yourself when he stills your hips and begins to fuck you himself. It's rough, loud, and the pain is your pleasure. His balls slap against your skin as he easily slides in and out of you with the help of your arousal. Your love dawns on him when you're so turned on for him without any foreplay, and he's on cloud nine because nothing can compare to being inside you.
The setting is so unlike you, fucking in someone's bedroom with a bunch of people behind the unlocked door who can barge in at any given moment, but he finds it so sexy. You only care about being with him, and you really do look like his slut now.
His hands start holding onto your ass, kneading it until it turns red with his fingerprints, and he demands you to kiss him. You're out of it, your ears are ringing and you can only moan out his name, but you can't bear to ignore him. Your lips fall on his, and the kiss is sloppy with his tongue all over your mouth. You can't keep up, but your chest swells with pride when you realize how needy he is for you. He goes as far as to spit in your mouth, and you swallow it without hesitation.
"You want me to play with your clit?" he murmurs against your lips, and his voice sounds so airy and melodic to your ears. "Hm? Want me to make you feel good, little slut?"
You whine without a clear response because his lips feel so soft and wet, and that's the only thing you can focus on. All you want to do is kiss him and he doesn't stop you from doing so, but you're even more overwhelmed when he starts touching you while penetrating you. "No," you whimper, "I'll cum."
"A slut can take it," he grunts and rubs your clit faster, and you come undone all too soon. You moan loudly as you tremble, shaking as he rides out your high with a pinch to your clit. You're numb when you collapse on top of him, but he's relentless with his thrusts. He's using your body as you intended, and he's vocal with his pleasure and teasing climax. It's remarkable how he holds you up when you've gone limp and still fucks you just as hard.
You want to record his voice when he starts to whine pathetically, but you have no energy left within. He's panting in your ear, and it's not long before his hips fall on the mattress with a sigh. He's surprised by how powerful his orgasm was, as he fills the condom with his release instantly. His cock is still nestled inside you as both of you recover from your climax.
"Get off," he taps your thigh, and he pushes you off when you don't obey immediately. Your spell has worn off as he starts to dress himself. "I'm going back to the dorms." You listen to him with your mind in a haze. "Unless you want to get raped on your way without me, get the fuck up now."
"Can you carry me please?"
He shrugs and swings your arm over his shoulder, picking up your body with ease. He collects your clothes in his hand, but doesn't hand them to you as he steps out of the room.
"W-Wait, Jungkook, I'm naked-"
"You're my girl, no? Be a good slut and shut the fuck up."
Dangling off his shoulder with your bare tits pressed against his back, you close your eyes and drift off on the way to campus.
Boyfriends typically drop their girlfriends off anyway, right?

I know I've brought this up before, but how much of the fandom reception of the prequels do you think stemmed from the genre dissonance? That the prequels, genre-wise, are closer to high fantasy, while the OT is more an adventure/space western/underdog triumph story.
The prequels also have elements more reminiscent of a romantic period/court drama/Shakespearean tragedy, while if you consider the underdog angle of the OT, the OT also seems kinda similar to some of those inspirational movies about sports teams or something, or a shonen anime with the "Power of Friendship".
I'm just saying, these are rather disparate genres that tend to attract different demographics of people.
And not many people tend to be... great about understanding why they don't like something, much less putting it into words, or understanding that they can dislike something without that something being actually bad. (For example, instead of "I just don't really like [thing]," the usual statement is something along the lines of "[thing] absolutely sucks.")
So the usual response is trying to find (and gather) solidarity while putting down or being condescending towards any dissent, and trying to justify their own dislike. (*gestures vaguely towards pineapple on pizza*)
And historically, it's not uncommon for people to... react strongly towards things they find... different or abnormal, which they judge based on themselves, their emotional response to something, and what they're used to.
Looking at kids, this behavior is... fairly normal. "You're weird," "ew, why do you like that, that's gross," "that's stupid," and so on. A lot of kids/teens/young adults also get defensive really easily. And let's face it--adults are basically just older, taller kids who've had to deal with more of life.
(To be honest, I also get defensive really easily. A lot of people do, and it's... it's normal. The defensive reaction can be lashing out, denial, or just being passive-aggressive or staying silent and tuning it out or mentally rolling your eyes at it. But I'm trying to work on it, because just because it's normal doesn't mean it's a good reaction.)
So, what I'm wondering is whether some fans dislike the prequels simply because it's a different genre...
...but instead of realizing that, they try to defend and justify their dislike by pointing fingers and criticizing whatever stood out or looked different from the OT or cherry-picking details/taking things out of context or making negative conflations (that can be refuted).
Because it's not about logic, it's about how they feel. And people want to feel justified and validated, and we want to feel like we're right and we enjoy staying in our comfort zones. So... yeah. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
LOL, okay, this response is going to be really disjointed because I went off in like a dozen different tangents and even then it's not enough to cover everything, so just kind of read this in a Scattered Thoughts Nerd kind of tone, where I'm staring off into the distance because Navel Gazing Gets Me Going Sometimes. 😂 In my experience, it's sort of a mix. I don't hang around a lot of people who dislike the prequels (in the sense of dismissing them/not being fannish about them) because, well, that's the heart of my interest in Star Wars, so our areas of interest basically don't really overlap that much, so I don't have a chance to talk to a lot of people and find out their reasons or even how they dislike the prequels, in the bigger trends of fandom. I do think there's an element of what you're talking about, that sometimes people can't just dislike things because it's not their genre of choice, that's absolutely a part of it. Mostly because that's how a lot of people react to anything they don't like (and it's something I and literally everyone else has to work on), there has to be a reason for it that it's objectively bad and, like, I have experienced a lot of people getting mad because I like something in a different way than they do. And I don't mean just in Star Wars fandom, but in almost any given fandom--if someone likes something in a way someone else doesn't, if they talk loudly about it (even within their own space), then there's always a contingent of people who have to find a reason why that person is objectively wrong (or even try to make them morally wrong), rather than just shrugging and going, "We see things differently, my view on things doesn't overwrite theirs and their view on things doesn't overwrite mine." It gets more complicated in instances where fandom attitudes genuinely can be hurtful, especially when they're overlapping into the way real people are treated, likes/dislikes don't 100% exist in a bubble, especially when it comes to queer fans, fans of color, disabled fans, mentally ill fans, etc. But that there are a lot of instances where fandom culture has always been--and is increasingly so--contentious and it's hard to chill out when someone is always screaming at you, when the atmosphere of the fandom is always so intense. Further, there's also an element of how fandom has always been--and also is increasingly so--about personal resonance, personal emotional investment, interpretation, and meaning. That sometimes we identify with something so deeply that we feel attacked when someone else likes or dislikes something we feel so strongly about, something that we feel is a reflection of ourselves, and I see a lot of that as well. And this, too, often crosses over into lines of how the context of how we treat characters can be reflections of how we treat real world people, but that there's no monolith here as well. For example: I make fun of Anakin, this angers some people, because how dare I not take this fictional victim 100% seriously, despite that I have repeatedly said that Anakin is the character I most identify with, that things I make fun of him for are ones that I resonate with personally. I'm not disrespecting mentally ill people, especially considering that Anakin is not bound to a single interpretation on this front--he is not canonically mentally ill, no matter how easy it is for us in fandom to map much of that onto his character or, in my case, feel that so much of what I see in him are things I struggle with myself. By and large, the majority of the people I see (at least on tumblr) who make fun of Anakin are doing so within the same vein, that they're being silly about him on things that they personally relate to. (My experiences on this are not universal, I cannot speak for the whole of even any one part of fandom, only my own sphere of experience, but this is what I've seen.) As always, it's fine if someone doesn't vibe with my style or they find that it's not their thing because they do take him more seriously, but that preference does not make my jokes
suddenly not have the context that I relate a lot to what I see in Anakin. In contrast, the way some of the fandom treats Mace or Finn isn't just personal all the time. Not liking their characters isn't inherently racist, but the way they're consistently, consistently treated sure as hell speaks to a larger pattern of racism in fandom and doesn't come without that context. It's the same with Rey--is there a huge vein of misogyny when it comes to her character? Abso-fucking-lutely there is. Things Luke and Anakin get a pass on, Rey is raked over the coals for. Is everyone who dislikes Rey a misogynist? Not even close. Some don't like her because Finn was used as a prop for her story. Some people don't like her because she got sucked into Kylo Ren's story too much. Some just don't care for the way she was written for other reasons. Some just don't vibe with her. It's fine. Nothing is a monolith. And to circle this back around to what you're talking about--it's hard to judge, both because no part of fandom is a monolith in their reactions, but also because we're only hearing from a selection of the fans. How do you know how many people who aren't fans of the prequels, who just don't care for them because it's not their genre, but just go about their day? You don't hear from a lot of them because they moved on to things they do like, so it seems like they must not exist--except, they do, and they're just out there doing things they like more. We only hear from the people who feel the need to tell others they dislike the prequels for this reason or that reason, some valid, some less valid, etc. Ultimately, I do think there's probably a fair amount of genre dissonance for why people dislike the prequels and channel that into "they're objectively bad" and get defensive when people like them and say they were great, but only because that's true of anything anywhere. But that it's only one small slice of the bigger picture (and there's a lot of stuff that I had to eschew in the writing of this response as well because it can be a pretty sprawling topic), where there are tons of reasons and reactions that people have, as well as they're perfectly free to dislike the prequels for whatever reason they do or don't have, it doesn't really affect my opinions, unless they're trying to shove it in my face or are being a dick to those who disagree with them.

Wowza sorry y'all about the random massive Rockafire spam, I'm pretty sure ??most?? People on here? know me for just Knight Rider because that's the only thing I've ever REALLY posted about--
but I Do Not Care it's RAE hours right now so uhhh here's some headcannons that probably aren't Canon compliant very much because I just got into RAE like last week
So like. I feel like Mitzi is a Good Amount younger than the rest of the band like she was in highschool when she joined, the rest of em were all Adults™ and she was a little bit nervous about it because...... ADULTS™
She was just lookin for a place to get her singing voice out there, because ya girl REALLY wanted to perform, and showbiz happened to have a slot open, but she did not expect all of the members to be older than her (although looking back, she realized she probably should have expected that)
It was intimidating at first but Billy Bob and Fatz were just the absolute sweetest and they introduced her properly to the rest of the band because she was like "oh I barely talk to them because I get nervous :(" and the resident dads p much said "aight we can do all the talking for you then, how about that?" And badabing badaboom she's now attached to these two and like honestly who isn't or maybe that's just me but ANYWAYS I feel like the band would become a second home/safe space for her
Yeah fr some reason I have BIG long headcannon for her joining the band but the rest of them? Nobody knows how they got there for all I know they just Showed Up One Day
Also I came across this
https://youtu.be/UU7BeUWQBDI
youtube
Which got me thinkin about what my headcannons were as far as sexuality/gender stuff
And I find the concept of Billy Bob being Very Much Straight And Ignorant but trying his hardest to be a good ally SO funny like if someone came out to him he'd probably be like "oh!! I don't understand why you would choose that lifestyle but I respect you!!" not realizing how incredibly stupid he sounds sjkrjh like I don't think he can very easily wrap his head around how people are just. not cishet. so he's like "OH then it must be a choice, right? like you can choose to be gay but you're born straight. Right?" and everyone just shakes their heads in the background but he does earnestly try his best and my man would rather DIE than disrespect someone's pronouns I know this for sure
Fatz is pretty similar, straight ally and a lil confused but he's got the spirit, you know? He still least knows being gay (as well as,,, m o s t sexualities that aren't straight, although some he doesn't get/know about at all) isn't a choice but he hasn't quite grasped that being trans is also not a choice. He will respect your pronouns to hell and back but by god he doesn't get it,,, he's trying though and he feels very accomplished in himself that he's starting to get the hang of using they/them even though he slips up a lot
The rest of the band encourages the HELL out of these two because they're. Trying their best and making an honest effort which is more than a pretty good chunk of people would give
Rolfe, Earl, and Dook are the reasons Billy Bob and Fatz are trying so hard to understand it lmao
Rolfe took it upon himself to hang up a MASSIVE gay pride flag backstage, being the flaming homosexual that he is, and the rest of the squad quickly realized "oh he's GAY gay he wasn't kidding" because at first they literally thought he was joking as he was actually just being openly and obnoxiously a raging mlm (and like I mean no shade to him this isn't me tryna to make fun of it because my dumb sapphic ass almost crashed my car once because I saw a pretty girl walk down the street. And by "once" I mean. Yesterday.) Anyways yeah that's when the rest of em Realized and were like "OH" but after the massive pride flag was hung up that prompted Dook to come out and they were all like "???? YOU TOO????"
Dook is a non-binary ICON he's a demiboy and goes by both he/him and they/them and probably would have a bunch of pride pins I think,,, I'm not really sure of his sexuality though!! honestly he kinda gives me bisexual vibes but Who Knows . Not me. He has a HELL of a time trying to explain his gender to the rest of the band (except for Rolfe because like. He's a part of the community so he knows) and basically he was met with "so you're just a dude but ✨spicy✨?" and it was like, "no, but I have no idea how to explain it in a way that will make sense to you, so. yes?" And that explanation seemed to suffice for most of them
Mitzi went in knowing NOTHING about what being non-binary was so she asked a l o t of questions about it, which Dook just kinda dealt with answering (he's heard most of it before, and it gets tiring after a while. if you're nb or trans or honestly any part of LGBTQ+ you know what I mean) but he thought it was really sweet of her to be so determined to learn about it and eventually she did get a grasp on it ish, so she was able to understand why it wasn't just ✨spicy male✨ (the conversation pretty much went "well if i was just male, don't you think I would label myself that way instead?" "....oH TRUE!!!") and she ended up a VERY passionate ally, and she'll ask occasionally about how to be better at it, bein a queen as she is 👉👉 also definitely started questioning her sexuality after a while and just went with "maybe bicurious" and Rolfe, Dook, and Earl were all like "ONE OF US, ONE OF US"
Earl has never once spoken about his sexuality in his life, because 1. He's very aware that's an awkward conversation to have with a puppet, and 2. He's aroace anyways, which is basically what people assume even if they don't realize it just for their own peace of mind, because seriously, puppets and any identity that ISN'T aroace creates a really uncomfortable mental image for... Most people, pretty much. So it's not like he ever needed to say anything about it, which is convenient for him because he wouldn't want to say anything either way. not worth the risk of embarrassing himself and making everyone feel awkward
(side note ish though Rolfe 100% came out to Earl first and was met with "I already knew that but okay." Rolfe was mildly offended)
And spEAKING OF EARL he's VERY much sentient but he can't say he's particularly enthusiastic about it because Rolfe has to carry him around everywhere
He can move on his own but it's limited and generally annoying to maneuver around with his tiny body so he just says screw it half the time and stays on Rolfe's arm or hitch a ride on Random Object, but like... Yeah, the majority of the time Rolfe just has to deal with only having one arm available and a puppet directly next to him making fun of him at every possible chance
They high-key have chaotic and unorganized college roommate vibes (like they're actually roommates because... Where tf is Earl supposed to go?? So Rolfe took him in) and idk if this is really like a part of my headcannons or if I just think it's funny so I keep entertaining the idea of it but I think it would be Fantastic if Rolfe had no idea how to cook but Earl somehow did so this idiot is trying to take instructions from a puppet, who can't physically show him what to do, and it's like Hell's Kitchen live featuring a furry and a sentient stuffed animal
Aaaaamd going off of my Rolfe and Earl headcannons still Rolfe for SURE has some sort of executive dysfunction issue. ADD or ADHD I'm not sure (probably ADHD) but he definitely has it also this totally isn't just me projecting how dare you accuse me of that
And!!! More about Dook!!!! I don't know how or why I thought up of this but I cannot possibly imagine him any other way now-- he's autistic and space is his Big Huge special interest, and if you ever ask him about it you have to be prepared to get infodumped or possibly even shown a PowerPoint presentation, because GOD he loves space!!! He wants everyone to know all about it!! He knows not everyone thinks it's as cool as he does so he tries to keep his mouth shut but when someone asks about it he can't help himself and will infodump a LOT, also haha drumming stims go brrrr, playing the drums isn't really a stim but he likes to just take his drumsticks and whack em around in the air and get that good ol Wavy Arm Action (wavy arms is best stim change my mind you can't it's GOOD)
Also i bbbbelieve earlier I reposted somethin about someone else headcannoning that he has echolalia, which I don't really know enough about to say anything on it?? But even if he doesn't have echolalia he'd probably repeat phrases over and over until he gets tired of them (which is,,, something I do lmao, it's either memes I get stuck in my head or things I've heard from various medias I like the inflections in (like one tiktokker I saw was talking about their tourettes and their vocal tics and one of them was "uh oh! How unfortunate!" and now I CAN'T STOP SAYING IT)) but like uhhh yeah :))) repeating phrases that get stuck in your head for various reasons for the win
This is already really long so I'm just gonna vibe out thanks for coming to my Ted talk feel free to ask questions I probably won't be able to answer a lot of em though because my headcannons are a Mess hehe >:)

Shadowhunters Fandom Story - Part Fifteen

Five Favourite Fics:
1. What's It Gonna Be by @lemonoclefox
Why I love this fic: I'm a sucker for Pride & Prejudice. San was able to take that dynamic and put it all in a modern day telling of it. I can't count how many times I've read this. Sometimes I read it all the way through, other times I go and find my favorite parts just to get that rush of emotions it never fails to give. The enemies to lovers is done perfectly, the dialogue is great and flows seamlessly, the way she tied in the storyline between Simon, Isabelle, Valentine, and Alec together was genius. I truly love every word of this story.
Favorite scene: Awkward - love - confession - in -  the -  rain
Favorite quote(s):
(Yes. Love confessions are great but have you ever overheard someone say something rude about you and then have the opportunity later that same night to be able to casually call that person out for their comment?)
"Her friend is..." He trails off, as though searching for the word, and Magnus can imagine him gesturing in the meantime. "Interesting," Jace eventually settles on, pointedly.
"Who, that Bane guy?" Alec says, and as he does, Magnus is hit with a wave of intrigued surprise. Does Alec like men? Interesting. The assumption could be wrong, of course, but Jace's tone implies that that's why he's mentioning it. "He's a bit over the top, don't you think?"
He sounds almost disdainful as he says it, as though Jace's mere suggestion is laughable, and Magnus's intrigue immediately shifts to offended annoyance. He straightens a little where he stands, reluctantly affected by it.
--
"I mean, love songs are great," Magnus admits lightly. "But stringing a few pretty words together does seem a bit unoriginal when everyone does it."
Simon shoves him lightly in offense, and Magnus can't help but laugh.
"Then what do you suggest?" Magnus is taken completely by surprise when he realizes that it's Alec who's speaking, and he turns to him. The guy's expression is neutral, but seems genuinely curious.
"Oh, I don't know," Magnus says, swirling his drink around in his glass. He shrugs. "I suppose I'm more a fan of showing and not telling. I'd much prefer someone showing interest in what I like and who I am, than comparing my eyes to the night sky, and whatnot." He gestures airily, then hesitates. He suddenly can't seem to stop himself, the memory of the Lightwoods' overheard conversation bubbling to the surface. "I think most people can appreciate that. Even if some of us are a bit over the top."
--Okay...I'm gonna go ahead and throw in a love confession~
"Look, I don't expect anything from you," he says, as though the words are hard to say. "You've made your feelings pretty clear, and I respect that. But I heard you talked to my mom, and with the stuff you said to her... I guess it just kind of made me a bit hopeful, or something. A bit." He clears his throat, while Magnus just listens. He turns to watch Alec's profile as the young man struggles to find the words, eyes on the view in front of him. "Either way, I'll admit that how I feel hasn't really changed. Maybe it should have, but..."
Alec shakes his head, and Magnus feels his throat go dry. He wants to interrupt Alec, wants to say and show everything that's bursting out of his chest, but he waits. Alec takes a deep breath then, turns to him. He looks determined.
"If you want me to," he says steadily, "I'll go. I'll leave you alone, I promise. You won't hear from me again." He pauses, licks his lips. "But if you don't want me to, if something has changed since last time, somehow... I'd really like to know. Because that would be pretty great."
2. 42 North 71 West by @lecrit
Why I love this fic: I was blessed with the opportunity to witness Lu working on this fic from its conception to its end. I was there and still I am blown away at the way she was able to work the time jumps. I remember thinking with every chapter I read, 'Wow. The way she is telling this story is amazing. She is amazing.' Lu has a way of presenting so much honesty in her characters. She writes them in a way that feels so real, that you can't help but understand their fears and hesitations even though it hurts. The story is a back and forth told through scenes set in the past and present. You get to see what they were and where they are. The story is beautifully heartbreaking. And she was able to make me enjoy a story that dealt with politics? What? Sorcery, I tell you. -- also, the bench.
Favorite scene: This was almost impossible to choose and I took way too long trying to pinpoint just one. But I'm going to go with one that I hold very dear. When Magnus goes to visit Alec on his birthday and he finds Alec playing the song he only plays when he's sad. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to spoil~
Favorite quote(s):
“Magnus,” Alec breathes out.
The name feels almost foreign, as if he hadn’t uttered it in too long and now his mind is troubling to catch up with his mouth. Still, it manages to make Alec’s heart stutter.
--
“We should’ve stayed on that bench in Boston,” he murmurs.
--
The good thing is, he knows where to go to find his way back. It is inked on his body, engraved into his soul, sealed into his heart.
3. Lead The Way by Clockworkswan
Why I love this fic: Because it takes the wonderful adventure of Doctor Who and packs it in with Malec. This is the ultimate fun and feel good but you will also cry at one point fic. I always go back to it if I want a wonderfully written Doctor Magnus and his adorable companion Alec. Seriously, even if you're not into Doctor Who, give this fic a shot. It's written in a way that you will get so caught up in the adventure that you won't even realize it's based on something else. And if you're a Doctor Who fan, you're in luck with all the little Easter Eggs Heather left throughout.
Favorite scene: I really don't want to spoil anything. The planet of Ablorix. This will mean nothing if you don't read the fic (so you should ;])
Favorite quote(s):
Magnus extends a hand. It’s just like before, when they were in the hallway a couple of weeks ago. It’s just as inviting as it was the first time.
“How about it, pretty boy? Name a star. Any one will do. Or a date,” Magnus says. The double meaning is evident when he winks. He pauses then, and his expression shifts, growing solemn.
A clear shift in his demeanour happens. Magnus turns from playful to sincere in the blink of an eye. Although, there was also a serious tone to it. Magnus looks at him, and understanding eyes meet Alec’s hesitant ones. “Alexander, you seem like a man in need of a break, and I am very much a man in need of a friend. Adventures are always a quick way in figuring out what you want. What do you say?”
What does he say?
He says yes.
Of course Alec does.
--
Before Magnus can think of a good retort, he tries to ignore the clenching ache his stomach gives at the sight of a confident, smirking Alec Lightwood watching him so openly. He settles for pointing in a random direction. “I have to go and see a dog about a man. Meet back here in five?”
“Uh, isn’t the expression, ‘see a man about a dog’?”
“Not when the dog ran off with the man’s wife. A rather big scandal, it seems. The president wants me to try and step in. Smooth things over, so to speak.”
At that, Alec just stares blankly.
Magnus holds up a finger. “Yes, this is normal for me. No, you may not come along. Go.”
4. Love & Other Drugs prequel of Our Love Is A Harsh Chord in the Semi-charmed Kind Life series by @la-muerta
Why I love this fic: I'm kind of cheating here by listing two fics but they're a package deal. Love & Other Drugs was a smutty one-shot that left me wanting
more...
backstory. Let me tell you the pining and 'unrequited' love between those two demanded a story to be written. Which is why when la_muerta ran a poll on whether or not she should start it or another series first, I campaigned for this one like it was my job (I lost but I still got the series eventually so did I really lose?) The writing in this and with all of la_muerta's fics will hook you. The sadness over the back and forth between them is done so well. It's angst that will grip you and hold onto you until you eventually finish. Just go on the twitter hashtag of #OLIAHCfic and see my screaming.
Favorite scene: Probably the LSD scene.
Favorite quote(s):
Alec was still here, in bed with him.
How many times had Magnus wished that he could wake up with Alec in his arms? He didn't dare to move, wanting the dream to last a little longer, but Alec was already stirring.
--
he'll wonder if life would be a little easier if he wasn't hopelessly in love with Magnus, but it is a fact of who he is now: Alec Lightwood is 6'3, has dark hair, is gay, and is in love with Magnus Bane.
--
They are lying next to each other now, turned on their sides and face to face. The world is no longer warped and weird, but glowing and perfect. Magnus is tracing a path of lightning down Alec's body with his fingertips, and in a moment of clarity Alec understands that in Magnus' eyes he is as beautiful as he thinks Magnus is (it is the first thing Alec forgets when he wakes up sober later).

Words aren't enough to express how he feels, but they've always understood each other better when clumsy words don't get in the way.
5. The Lonely Hearts Hotline by @unrestrainedlyexcessive
Why I love this fic: It's funny, it's endearing, it's heart wrenching, it's sexy, etc. The way Alec is written in this fic is one of my favorite characterizations. The way his situation can resonate with so many young adults today. That feeling when you're an adult and you feel like you should know what to do with your life and who you should be but the truth is, you're still just as lost as always. Being an adult sucks tbh and even when you're an adult, sometimes life doesn't quite feel like it. Alec's character and growth in this fic is beautiful. (I also really loved Jace in this fic)
Favorite scene: A tough choice. Probably the office party and follow up scene in Magnus' office.
Favorite quote(s):
The problem with being a new grad, in general, is that the world and job force demands you have experience, but you have to live a certain number of productive years on the planet to gain that experience.
Early adulthood is no man's land. You don’t have the experience to matter and no one wants to pay you to gain it, hence how he ended up in the precarious situation he’s in: dodgy sex work by night, an even dodgier roommate, and desperately hoping an internship eventually turns into an actual paying job.
--
Magnus runs his tongue down the knobs of Alec's spine. "You're so beautiful," he says, pausing.
"I'm really not," Alec insists, eyes fluttering closed.
"Why are you so kind to everyone except yourself?"
"I'm a work in progress."
"Aren't we all?"

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 3 (2020)
**SPOILERS**
Ok, I have already completed the season, but I'm still gonna break it down episode by episode and give my thoughts during in retrospect. If you have not seen Parts 1 or 2, I recommend you start there.
Chapter 21: The Hellbound Heart
So, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) is trying to get Nick Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood) back out of hell and separated from Lucifer (Luke Cook). If you had forgotten, during part 2 Sabrina found out that Lucifer Morningstar was her biological father, and they trapped Lucifer inside of Nick. She enlists Roz (Jaz Sinclair), Harvey (Ross Lynch), and Theo (Lachlan Watson) to help. Besides the fact that their all besties, I have no idea what help Harvey or Theo would be. Theo is at least loyal and listens to reason. Harvey just goes off all the time. Roz is the most useful with her "cunning." Anyway. Before they figure out how to get to Hell, Mrs. Wardwell (Michelle Gomez) comes back to Baxter High with a new obsession with Dante's Inferno. But she's not possessed by Lilith (Michelle Gomez) anymore; Lilith is too busy defending her title as Queen of Hell. Also, props to Michelle Gomez. She flawlessly played two very different characters this season. Meanwhile, Zelda (Miranda Otto) and Hilda (Lucy Davis) are trying to save the coven because their powers are all fading. They aren't sure what to do with the remaining students or what to tell them. All of their powers are a gift from Lucifer, but he's not really in the position (or the mood) to be giving them any powers. Down in New Orleans, Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) and Prudence (Tati Gabrielle) are on their mission to find her father. When they come up short, they turn to Voodoo Priestess Mambo Marie (Skye P. Marshall) to help them with a different kind of magic. Dorian Gray (Jedidiah Goodacre -that is quite a name-) helps Sabrina and friends to get into Hell as long as they bring him a magic flower. They go in without any real plan, as you do. Seriously. Not even a map. Wtf. Luckily, they walked into the Shores of Sorrow and met Caliban (Sam Corlett), who told them to follow the river of blood because "all blood leads to Pandemonium." That's the capitol city of Hell I guess? They have lots of fun on the way, and when they get there, Lilith says that Sabrina has to deal with the Kings of Hell for her, but Lucifer tells Sabrina that she has to take the throne for herself. It has to be a Morningstar. Well, she does, but the Kings aren't convinced. Then our friend Caliban shows up again, naming himself Prince of Hell, and challenging Sabrina for the throne. It is worth noting that Caliban is ridiculously hot. And generally shirtless. Sabrina accepts the throne to get Nick out of Hell. Which is problematic for a lot of reasons, but most of all that she decides to do this BEFORE separating him from Lucifer. So she's just gonna keep Nick/Lucifer tied up in the dungeon until she finds another flesh acheron to hold Lucifer. What could go wrong?
I really expected it to take longer for Sabrina to get to Nick, but considering the very twisted maze part 3 went down, getting to Pandemonium is pretty minor. Also, Sabrina's whole "I'ma do what I want and not tell my aunts so they don't stop me" is getting old.
Chapter 22: Drag Me to Hell
This one is a little less convoluted. Sabrina finds out that one of her duties as Queen is to drag souls to Hell. Specifically souls who have made a deal with the devil. We can infer from this that the only people who go to Hell are those who have sold their soul, so it would be far easier to not go there than some people in the real world would have me believe. The first soul, a cute old man who wanted to be chess Grand Champion, Sabrina decided to show mercy and sent him to heaven. Didn't go over super well with the Kings of Hell. Also, Sabrina is now a cheerleader at Baxter High. They call themselves the Ravenettes. There's a dance team from my high school called the Raiderettes, so that confused me for a sec. Lots more singing pop songs then actual cheers though. Reminds me of the Jailhouse Rock scene in Riverdale. I digress. Zelda has decided to reopen the academy and that she and Hilda were going to teach. Hilda was more voluntold. Agatha (Adeline Rudolph) doesn't really respond well. Prudence and Ambrose discover that Father Blackwood (Richard Coyle) is in Loch Ness, which is apparently super magical and can bend time and space? Idk, but I was highly disappointed that we didn't see Nessie. They see him at the very end of the episode looking like Mr. Bean at the end of the live action Scooby-Doo movie. They take him back to Greendale and use him to hold Lucifer so Nick can be free. Because what the world needs is Blackwood and Lucifer together. Back to Brina. Her second soul to collect (apparently this is a daily task for the ruler of Hell but she only does these two so there's a plot hole) is the ice cream man, Jimmy Platt (Matty Finochio). He tells her that he would like to extend his contract again by eating the heart of an innocent child. Sabrina confronts Lucifer about this later, apparently it didn't have to be a child, just an innocent soul. Adult virgins, beware. Sabrina tells Jimmy no (obvi) but Jimmy has already hidden the kid. So now she has to find this kid and collect his soul before the end of the day or there will be a coup in Hell. Sabrina wisely decides on just Roz to help her with this one. Roz is also the one who warns Sabrina against transporting herself into a freezer with no more information, but as per usual Sabrina goes anyway. Jimmy put warding sigils on the walls, so she's stuck and powerless. Luckily, Lilith knows what the fuck she's doing (as opposed to Sabrina who only thinks she does) and saves Sabrina. Sabrina takes Jimmy to Hell, but nobody is impressed. Caliban officially challenges her to find the unholy regalia- the three most powerful infernal objects, starting with Herod's crown.
This is a pretty typical Sabrina episode- she's way in over her head, but she either doesn't realize it or won't admit it. I'm never quite sure, but it seems like she genuinely doesn't know. I also don't remember if it's this episode or the next, but Harvey is suddenly feeling under a lot of pressure to have sex with Roz. But it never shows Roz being pushy about it, so idk wtf is going on in Harvey's head (besides convincing himself he's over Sabrina).
Chapter 23: Heavy is the Crown
For this one, Sabrina enlists Ambrose to help her find the crown because Ambrose is the most well read warlock ever due to his permanent house arrest. It's in Riverdale. They use a special compass to find it in a maple tree that the Blossom's use for syrup. If you've seen Riverdale, this probably has more significance and is less surprising. They steal the crown (somehow without realizing zombie King Herod is still in the tree). Sabrina wants to destroy it, but Ambrose wants to tap into its power to help the coven. Unsurprisingly, this does not work out well for them initially because Herod follows the crown and would very much like it back. Zelda is failing at getting respect from the students at the academy, and there's weird Lucifer beetles crawling in ears and controlling people. In other news, a carnival came to town! Obviously this has something to do with the larger plot because otherwise it would be a side note. Harvey, Roz, Sabrina, Nick, and Theo are all going together. Theo wants to invite the new guy, Robin (Jonathan Whitesell), because Theo is crushing hard. Robin is nerdy cute, I guess. I did think it was cliche to give the queer guy green streaks in his hair though. Harvey says tells Theo to invite him as part of the group, which Theo does, and Robin agrees. They all go to the carnival: Roz, Sabrina, and Theo ignorantly happy, Harvey struggling with his masculinity, Nick struggling with his ordeal, and Robin just happy to be there. Roz "sees" the carnival ringmaster as a satyr (or a faun depending on your preference for Greek or Roman deities, but they do tend to prefer Greek in this show), but she decides she was imagining things. Mrs. Wardwell talks to the fortune teller Circe (Lucie Guest) to try to find out what happened to her during the three months that Lilith was using her "skin suit." She doesn't get any concrete answers because that's not how fortune tellers work, Mary. Harvey stumbles across a snake charmer dancer woman in a tent full of pervy dudes and is almost entranced. Hilda goes to the carnival with her bf Dr. C, who proposes. Idk why she needed to throw her cotton candy on the ground during that, but I'm also on a sugar detox, so... Prudence and Ambrose are cleaning up Blackwood's mess by putting a living doll spell on Judas and Judith to hide them and putting his weird time warping monster fish egg thing in a fish tank. Yeah. No Nessie, but a weird egg. It's fine, I'm not bitter. Back at the carnival, Sabrina and Nick get attacked by Herod (who stole his crown back from Ambrose but knows it was Sabrina stealing it initially). Ambrose saves them, but Caliban pops in, steals the crown, and wins the first round of the challenge. At the very end, we find out why the carnies are important: they're pagans who worship the old gods and trying to resurrect The Green Man to rid the world of flesh since the Satanic witches have all but lost their powers. There is more than one voodoo practitioner, idk why they're not considered more of a threat because they're much more independently magical. They need a virgin to complete the rebirth, and that's why Robin (dun dun dun) was hanging out at the high school. Our potential virgins are Theo, Harvey, and Mrs. Wardwell.
I chose not to believe that Robin was actually bad because I want Theo to be happy. I chose to believe that even if he was using Theo, Robin was just trying to take his virginity to prevent him from being the sacrifice. Also, Sabrina is basically trying to force Nick to be normal even though she compared his symptoms to PTSD. Girl stop. He needs a sec.
Chapter 24: The Hare Moon
Zelda and Hilda have decided that the coven needs to celebrate the hare moon for the coming of spring to bolster good will. Sabrina isn't enthused (maybe because it requires her singing a song of summer into the forest to release a rabbit). Lilith tells Sabrina that they need celestial power to restore their strength, so she goes to Dorian, who has an angel trapped in one of his paintings (as all art collectors do). Sabrina drains some blood from the angel for her coven, but leaves in the process because she hears some screaming. Then she stumbles upon Nick and some sex demons doing BDSM. She's less than thrilled, especially since Nick low-key blames her for it. And Dorian has drank 90% of the angel blood, but they can't take anymore with killing him. So Hilda suggests using the little blood to make an oil mixture and take a moon bath under the hare moon (rub oils all over your skin and lie outside under the full moon) to absorb the celestial energy from the moon. During the daytime ceremony, they meet the pagans. Things don't go well. Zelda makes a bunch of petty insults, Hilda pisses off Circe, and Nick kills me the snake that bit Dorcas (Abigail Cowen). Circe puts a curse on Hilda to become a spider, and

Ooohh how about haru being possessive of makoto while they're hanging out with friends because kisumi is there being clingy with makoto (if you're comfortable with it)
Jealous Haru is ALWAYS my pleasure to write. Thanks for the prompt! I’m going to take the liberty of making this pre-confessions because I think it’s way cute when Haru pretends Makoto is his bf to ward off other predators. Hope you like it!
Rating: T (for brief adult topics)
-
Tokyo was the last place Haru thought he would ever have to deal with this.
In fact, one of the best benefits of moving there (aside from having Makoto’s attention entirely on him a majority of the time), was the fact that the very person he wanted as far from possible from his best friend would not be there. He hadn’t ever even taken into account that someone like Shigino Kisumi would also want to attend the same university that Makoto had chosen to go to, and which Haru had loyally chose as well.
His worst nightmare had manifested into this reality a week into their first semester at school, when Makoto had, to Haru’s displeasure, excitedly bragged about running into on campus the very headache of a pink-haired man that Haru now saw at least twice a week. Unwillingly. It was Makoto’s idea to start having “Iwatobi Reunions” to ward away the homesickness, to which Haru had insistently reminded him that without Rei and Nagisa and with the inclusion of someone they hadn’t hung out with since middle school for christ’s sake it didn’t really count as any sort of reunion. Makoto, bless his poor, unnecessarily friendly soul, disagreed.
And that’s how Haru ends up sitting across from his best friend at a ramen shop, glaring at the long, playful arm that belongs to Kisumi wrapped around his broad shoulders. He huffs, shrinking even further back into the booth and tightening his crossed arms over his chest as he half-listens to Kisumi tell another story about his younger brother.
“I can’t make this up, Makoto. He seriously asked if you and I would get married!” He laughs a little too loudly for Haru’s comfort, drawing the attention of several other tables to them. “I said, ‘Hayato, what makes you say that?’ and he goes- he says, ‘So Coach and brother can teach me all the time!’” He leans into Makoto, pressing a hand into the chuckling brunet’s chest as he howls, “I couldn’t stop laughing, it was too cute.”
Makoto grins good-naturedly, but can’t quite hide his concern for Haru’s disposition as he glances in the raven’s direction. “I can’t believe he really wants me around that bad,” he shakes his head in disbelief. He looks at Haru and grins, “Maybe I’m in the right Major after all.”
Haru hums his stubborn agreement, but only because he knows it will make Makoto feel better and not because it will validate Kisumi’s entirely un-funny story.
Kisumi gives Haru a sly look, grinning that sneaky fox smile that he has whenever he’s up to no good, and by that he means when Kisumi’s doing anything that he knows will piss him off. “Hope you wouldn’t mind standing up at the wedding, Haru. Probably safe to say you’ll be Makoto’s best man.”
Stubbornness taking full reign, Haru can do nothing to hold back the annoyed comeback, “He can’t say yes if he’s already dating someone else!”
Suddenly the crowded restaurant feels a lot quieter than it did a second ago, and the heaters keeping away the winter chill must have doubled their output because Haru feels hot. In the embarrassed way, specifically.
“H-haru,” Makoto half-laughs, but is giving him that raised eyebrow that reads What the heck are you talking about?
Kisumi’s brows raise in surprise as well, but his mischievous smirk remains as he coos, “Ooh, so Makoto is dating someone then? Who? You have to tell now that Haru gave it away!” He leans forward eagerly, looking between the two best friends for who will cave first.
“Uh- I… Haru, why don’t you tell him. Since, um, you know…?” Makoto tries to lie, really tries his best but it’s beyond unconvincing.
Kisumi’s attention is now fully on Haru, determined enough that he doesn’t notice the helpless shrug Makoto gives him along with his panicked do something! expression.
“Makoto and I are dating,” Haru says it like it’s the most natural fact of life. Like it’s something he’s been saying for months now. Like it’s the God’s honest truth.
Kisumi jolts out of his seat and slams his fists onto the table, rattling the dishwear on it and giggling delightedly, “I knew it! I knew it would happen the moment you two left Iwatobi!”
“Haru and- US? You- ME? Wait, WHAT-?” Makoto shrieks through gritted teeth, frantically glancing between the two other boys who are locked in a challenging staredown that suggests there’s a bit more than just the shock settling between them. Kisumi’s eyes scream his doubt as he begins to drill Haru with questions, ignoring Makoto’s confused and faint whining.
“How long?”
“A month and a half.”
“Who asked who?”
“Makoto confessed first.”
Makoto shrieks dismally again at that, his face a shade of red that almost has Haru concerned. “I did??” Kisumi continues his onslaught mercilessly though, ignoring Makoto’s embarrassment in favor of asking a question that leaves the brunet groaning with shame and slamming his forehead into the table with defeat.
“So have you done it yet?”
Kisumi’s challenging gaze is infuriating, to say the least, but Haru knows just how to piss him off back.
“I probably shouldn’t say, but I think you can guess why we were late to dinner tonight.”
Haru takes Makoto’s silence as his sign of surrender, his face thoroughly buried in his hands and the only visible skin of his neck terribly flushed. Kisumi sits back finally, apparently showing his surrender as well, and shrugs nonchalantly, “Huh. Well I’ll be damned.”
Haru just smirks the tiniest of smirks in reply. Check mate.
“Well, sorry for separating the lovely couple,” Kisumi gestures towards the empty seat besides Haru. “Hopefully I didn’t break up any thrilling games of footsie.”
“Don’t worry,” Haru shrugs back, “we’ve been doing it this whole time anyway. Easier when you’re across from each other.”
Makoto shows his despair with a weak kick under the table to Haru’s shin, which Haru catches with his own feet and locks him in place.
“Haarruuuu,” Makoto moans through his hands, shaking his head in dismay. “Y-you didn’t have to go that far.”
Haru assumes Makoto means that regarding his lie, but insists flatly, “He asked.”
“TMI is a thing. Am I the only one who thinks that?” He sighs, finally lifting his head from hiding. His cheeks are still a pretty shade of pink, enough that Haru takes pride in being the reason why they look that way.
“No worries, Mako-chan,” Kisumi grins reassuringly, then gives Haru a much less soft look, “I would have found out eventually. I just wish you all had told me sooner! I wouldn’t have interrupted so many of your dates then.”
Haru interjects, “It is pretty rude.”
“Hey, be nice,” Makoto barks in that Mom way that doesn’t actually hurt anyone’s feelings.
“Sorry, honey,” the name slides off Haru’s tongue easier than he expects. He intended for it just to annoy Kisumi, but he actually enjoys the way it makes his fake boyfriend stammer and glance away, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt to hide his flustered reaction.
“I-it’s okay,” he concedes, and Haru has a feeling that means he has Makoto on his side with this lie now.
The strawberry blonde annoyance seems to drop the subject after that, apparently satisfied enough with the investigation, and continues to talk about nothing in the kind of way that makes Haru wonder if he just likes hearing the sound of his own voice. After a few minutes and now close to finishing their meals, Haru notices Makoto still looks slightly rattled and has the sense to feel a little guilty about it. He really did put him in an awkward situation, mostly due to Haru’s own selfish fantasies, so he tries to think of a way to make it up to him. That idea’s thrown away though as Haru notices the way Makoto’s fingers anxiously tap on the table before him, even though it looks like he’s fully listening to the guy next to him, and gets a better one instead. One that will also drive Kisumi up a wall too.
The brunet makes no move away when Haru’s fingers dance against his for only a moment before sliding into his palm. In fact, he takes it rather gracefully when he clasps Haru’s smaller hand as if this was a common occurrence. The only thing that gives him away is the side glance that he shoots Haru a second later, his furrowed brow not angry, but certainly intrigued by something. Kisumi, on the other hand, stutters noticeably in his sentence and glares at the interlocked hands for only a moment before continuing on, his smile a little less pleasant now.
The rest of dinner goes by without any comparable disturbances, and before Haru realizes it (he sort of lost track of time once he realized he and Makoto were actually playing footsie under the table) Kisumi is excusing himself, thanking them for having him at dinner.
“You guys have to promise not to bail on me all the time now that you’re dating,” he teases, and Makoto actually laughs while Haru just stares. Unamused.
“We’ll always make time for you, Kisumi! It’s nice to see a familiar face every now and then,” Makoto’s grin is almost as warm as his thumb that brushes over the top of Haru’s hand soothingly.
“Ah, I think you have a pretty familiar one with you already,” this time, the sentiment sounds more genuine as Kisumi nods to their connected hands. Makoto looks down with a faint smile on his lips, then glances up at Haru with a gaze that stops the raven’s heart momentarily.
“Yeah, I do,” he agrees, but his eyes stay on Haru’s the whole time.
Kisumi leaves with a final goodbye after that, and Haru suddenly realizes that if he doesn’t move his hand away soon, he’s going to look pretty suspicious and Makoto’s going to have even more questions about his stunt then. He starts to slide his hand away as inconspicuously as he can, eyes locked on the empty ramen bowl in front of him to avoid any more gut-churning looks from his friend, but the hand around his only tightens and holds his in place steadily.
His head shoots up, unable to stop the hopeful glint in his own eyes as he meets Makoto’s. The brunet smiles at him, warm and bright and perfect as usual, but the feeling it gives Haru in the pit of his stomach is something new, and something that he hopes to feel more often.
“It’s kind of nice like this, isn’t it?” Makoto says softly, his other hand joining the ones already on the table, cradling Haru’s gently as if it’ll break in his grasp. “I… think I could get used to this. If we have to pretend, you know,” he shrugs noncommittally, but Haru can read his tone better than anyone else.
He can only hear Makoto above the pounding of his own heart in his ears, but that doesn’t stop him at all. Nothing could stop him at this point, not even a sneaky, pink-haired intruder.
“Yeah, it is nice,” Haru murmurs only for Makoto to hear, and squeezes his hand just a little tighter into his friend’s.
He’d have to remember to grudgingly thank Kisumi for this later.

Jersey Jazzman: Kids in Disadvantaged Schools Don't Need Tests to Tell Them They're Being Cheated
Jersey Jazzman: Kids in Disadvantaged Schools Don't Need Tests to Tell Them They're Being Cheated
There was a very raw, very discouraging story in The Trentonian this past week that is worth your time, whether you live in Jersey or not. Here's an excerpt:
Over the past year, this newspaper spoke with high school students educated in the Trenton Public Schools (TPS) district. The interviews took place in the presence of an adult and the teens were granted anonymity to speak freely and honestly. Each interview started with vague questions, such as “What is it like to live in Trenton?” While some students also spoke about nice and community-oriented neighbors, each of the conversations began with a discussion about violence.
[...]
“The school smells like weed,” a highschooler said. “They smoke in the hallways and stairwells almost everyday.”
While some students said school guards “try to stop bad behavior” and convince kids to stay out of trouble, others described guards as “too young,” with “not enough care” for what happens.
“This guy told the security guards what was going to happen to him, but they didn't care enough to do anything about it, so he got jumped,” a teen said. “They don't take their job seriously.”
And as for teachers: “I feel like it depends on whether they know the student wants to change,” a teen said.
Students said some teachers will remain persistent in trying to convince a kid to stay out of trouble. But if they realize their advice is not improving behaviors, “they just give up.”
“I think that’s why a lot of people say teachers don't care either,” a student said. When asked to estimate the percentage who don’t seem to care about the students in their school, the majority of the teens said approximately 70-75 percent of teachers seem like they don't want to be there.
One teen suggested the teachers have cause for not caring: “They have to teach in Trenton and dealing with kids’ attitudes is just overwhelming for them after a little while. It's not getting better, it's getting worse.”
Teens estimated 60-70 percent of students seem to not take school seriously. One teen described negativity as their greatest challenge living in the capital city.
“Negativity seems to be everywhere in Trenton; you can't run from it,” she said. With a toxic environment as described by teens interviewed for this report, it’s no wonder that the TPS district high school graduation rate for the class of 2017 was only 70 percent, according to state department of education data. That low figure is due in large part to Daylight/Twilight’s graduation rate of 34 percent. Both Trenton Central High School campuses graduated more than 80 percent of its 2017 class.
The statewide graduation rate in 2017 was 90.5 percent. The graduation rates both statewide and in TPS have gradually increased over recent years.
Again, this is a tough piece of writing. But I thought it was well worth it, because the whole story raises some very uncomfortable questions as states head into their budgeting seasons:
A few days ago, a New Jersey appellate court threw out regulations that made the PARCC Algebra I and English Language Arts (ELA) Grade 10 tests a requirement for high school graduation. One of the most prevalent arguments for the PARCC -- which is based on the Common Core standards -- is that if we didn't have high standards and tough tests to match them, we are "lying" to students.
This argument is aimed particularly at schools like those in Trenton: "failing" schools, as reformers are so eager to call them. Apparently, many of us have deceived ourselves into thinking everything is fine in places like Trenton. Worse, students and parents, according former SecEd Arne Duncan, believed the lie. Only the hard, cold reality of testing could free us all from our delusions.
Now, I've been around a lot of testing skeptics, and I can assure you I've never once met one who was convinced that schooling in disadvantaged neighborhoods was generally acceptable. I've never met a union official who believed schools in impoverished cities didn't need improving. I never met anyone who works in a school or advocates for public education who was fine with the opportunity gap that plagues so many children in this country.
But I'll set that aside and instead make this point: stories like the Trentonian's give us clear evidence that kids who are in these schools themselves know full well what is going on. They are saying, with unmistakable clarity, that their instruction is unacceptably poor. They are telling us many of their peers have given up and have no interest in school.
What are multiple administrations of standardized tests going to tell us that these kids aren't already telling us themselves?
As I said last time: I am all for reasonable accountability testing. Test outcomes have been used by researchers and advocates to show indisputable truths, such as:
1) When it comes to school, money matters. A lot. 2) Children who come from disadvantage need more resources to equalize their educational opportunities.
Some make the argument that we have to have tough tests to motivate schools to improve. Most of these people don't know the first thing about how these tests are constructed or what they actually measure, but even if they did: What, exactly, do they want to do with the information they get from these tests?
Do they really want to deny students, who went to their classes and played by the rules, their diplomas? What will that accomplish? Will it make the students and teachers "do more with less"? Will it improve the lives of students who don't pass these much more challenging PARCC and upcoming PARCC-like tests?
The idea of requiring students to pass tests with current passing rates of 46 percent strikes me as both cruel and capricious. Cruel because denying graduates a chance to participate in the workforce or join the military or pursue higher education is unnecessarily harsh when these students did exactly what they were told to do. Capricious because we changed the rules on these students quickly and with little forethought, and we didn't even stop to ask if their schools have what they need to help students pass these tests.
Now, if these same people who are demanding more and harder tests were also the same ones demanding full, adequate, and equitable funding for schools, I'd be more amenable to their arguments. Unfortunately, however, these folks -- like Duncan -- don't ever put school funding at the top of their lists of policy preferences.
I've heard a lot of crowing from certain quarters about how great it is that Trenton is getting a new high school in 2019. Certainly, the kids deserve it... but why did it take so long when high school kids in Trenton have been attending a school that is dirty and dangerous for years?
The infamous "Waterfall Staircase" at Trenton Central.
And what about all the K-8 schools in Trenton that are in need of repair and renovation? Where is any urgency to address this?
A couple of years ago I gave a presentation to the Trenton Education Association. Here's one of the slides:
Why are plant costs so much higher in Trenton? Because it costs much more to maintain old buildings that weren't properly cared for over the years. TPS is playing a constant game of catch up. Why?
Because the district has been underfunded millions less than what the state's own law says it needs.
Again: if the folks demanding harder tests were proposing that Trenton, and all other districts, got the funding they needed to at least generate average test outcomes, I'd at least say they were being honest about what it takes to close the opportunity gap. But no -- what we get from them instead is school "choice" and finger-pointing at unions and test-based teacher evaluation and a lot of other stuff that has never been shown to work and/or been brought up to scale... and in some cases actually drains more money away from the schools serving the most disadvantaged students.
This kids in Trenton are telling us the their education is not equivalent to the schooling kids in the Windsors and Princeton receive. We don't need more tests to tell us that -- the kids themselves are saying it.
The only question left is: what are we going to do about it?

Opening Up
Clare: thought that made sense so she nodded. “Do you think I’d like this manga? Some of the adult books I read have mature content but it’s less of an issue with books than it would be with magna.” Pictures were harder to skip over. She didn’t want to be caught reading anything like that. Clare’s blush could be dead give away. “Yeah on second thought, maybe not. They probably save that for advanced cooking classes. I’d like to learn how to use one for stir frying….eventually. I need to start out with simple recipes for food such as egg rolls, wontons, potsticker dumplings.” Clare listened to Kota’s description of a host club and tried not to be put off by the wording. He wasn’t going to be an escort, not exactly, and the game sounded great! “So it’s similar to auctioning off bachelor's for a date? Only on a bigger scale.” She doubled checked. “A little harmless flirting isn’t going to make me go into a jealous rage.” Clare rolled her eyes. “Kissing other girls on the mouth, I make no such promises about.” She smirked at Kota. “Okay. I know I get carried away making big plans before I hear all the rules. Next time just stop me.” Her face flushed in embarrassment. “Whatever they come up with will be just as fun. I’m sure there’s plenty of things I can participate in. I’ve got drama experience.” Clare shrugged at the mention of boys with long hair. “I figured there would be. Making me look masculine might be more challenging without a drastic change, that’s all.” Sure her hair was only shoulder length but she had curves. Drawing people’s attention towards a made up face seemed best. “A ponytail isn’t going to make you look girly. You have muscles and your facial features aren’t soft.” She explained, reassuring him she didn’t think it was weird for an everyday look. “Most of the kids coming with us from Degrassi are my friends and would be hard to convince.” Clare finally admitted. “They’d only believe you’d had sex...not me. Of course people change during a semester abroad. Away from their controlling parents.” She wouldn’t tell them anything. Except Alli. “It could be years before I’m ready. I don’t believe so strongly in waiting for marriage anymore, however, I wouldn't have sex unless it was under the right circumstances. We’d have to be together a long time with no breakup on the horizon. If I have sex with you, it will be because we’ve really gotten to know each other and still love each other very much.” Clare knew everything came down to timing. “Right, and that’s all the more reason to wait. I’m not going to be happy if I have to change my plans for college.” She said honestly. “I couldn’t ask you to follow me to New York either. With Emi and a baby? And no one to help us out?” Clare shook her head, laughing. “Emi deserves your full attention for as long as possible. You know if she stays with you until she’s 18...that’s not a deal breaker for me. Either way, I’d want to wait until we finished college before having our own baby. At the absolute soonest. We’d have to try to be super careful.” Clare nodded seriously. “Not if I’m 18. Though I’m not sure how that works with insurance. If she’d be notified. She couldn’t do much about it. She’d still be a nightmare.” She smiled at Kota and gave him a kiss. “I’m good with cuddling and making out for as long as you are.” Clare murmured happily. “Then there’s other stuff. We can save going all the way for much later.” She giggled and kissed him again. “No I definitely couldn’t recognize California since I’ve never been. Kota, I’d consider having the same fictitious taste as Melanie Martinez a major compliment.” Clare felt floored. What had Kota gotten mixed up in now? Not that she was complaining and just going along with him today had worked out well. “Next Saturday? As in our second to last day here? This better be epic. I’m booked up through Friday night, don’t forget we have a secret bon voyage party to attend. Which is only going to leave Sunday for my parents.” They were supposed to leave the following Monday so they actually had a long weekend, no classes on Friday or Monday. Clare laughed a little realizing everyone was expecting her to show up for things no one wanted her to ask questions about. It was like a fun conspiracy. Of course Kota didn’t know everything either. “You have more famous friends than Kota, right Melanie? I’m beginning to wonder. Does he go to Hollywood premieres?” She teased Kota in the elevator. Clare curiously looked out into the lab and smiled at Yohio. She didn’t do anything to further disturb him from his work. But she silently watched Yohio through the window for a couple of minutes to see how perfume was made. “I don’t have a preference, everything here is interesting to me.” This was nothing like visiting her dad’s office.
Kota: looked at Clare when she asked about the manga. "My Lovely Ghost Kana? No, I don't think you'd like it. If anything I'd think you'd get uncomfortable reading it. It's like watching a soft porn in my eyes. I mean I don't know if they show the genitals or not on soft porn, but that's the only thing they hide in the manga. Kana's breasts are fully drawn even when she's topless." he explained the best he could. A soft chuckle fell from Kota's lips when Clare mentioned egg rolls being a simple recipe. "Sorry, but you'll need to learn how to make sushi before you make an egg roll. While they're entirely different, making them is exactly the same aside from one getting deep fried. If you deep fry your egg roll and it's not rolled tight enough it comes apart when you take it out of the fryer due to the juices being able to get inside of it. Hearing Clare mention auctioning them off made Kota shake his head. "Not exactly. I mean there's no auction at all. It's mainly a first come first serve basis and girls there can be vexing. A girl tricked Yohio into kissing her. She pretended to drop her napkin and knowing that he was going to look at her when he gave it back, she inched her face closer that way when he turned towards her their lips would meet and that's exactly what happened." he explained and nodded. "I'll try to stop you next time. No promises." he smirked at her. "They really don't make you look that masculine. I mean they just put you in a male uniform, matching shoes, tie back your hair, and you're done. With us my chest will still be flat. They just dress us in dresses, put wigs on us, do our make up, and we're done." he shrugged. "You being able to do multiple things, isn't really why you'd be a cashier. It's the fact that other schools will be coming to our school when we do the Cultural Festival. We'll be getting students from local schools and not all of them know English." he explained honestly and listened to her mention sex and kids. "I feel the same way, though I'd follow you to New York if you did get pregnant without having you to ask me. If we did decide to take that step before college and you did get pregnant, I'd follow you without even needing you to ask. It'd be easier that way. I'm actually going to apply to several colleges all over America, here, and a few in Japan. I already promised Jimmy Fallon that I'd stop in New York to see him when I'm in college along with a few other friends of mine. They'd kill me if I told them I wouldn't visit. Some of them are already mad at me for keeping Emi away from them. I really don't want to make it worse and I already promised Luca that I will bring Emi to see him in the near future." he assured. "I'm also happy Emi isn't a deal breaker and if we're in America and you get pregnant there, they just send the bill here and Canada takes care of it." he smiled and kissed her back. "I like that." he smiled against her lips and opened his eyes when she spoke. "When we get to that step, we'll talk first." he smiled and kissed back. He nodded when she mentioned never being to Cali and smiled when she did. "It's going to be epic. You'll love the concert and trust me if you don't go you'll regret it. I have no choice but to go since I got us epic tickets and if you don't go I'll take Alli. I'm sure she wouldn't mind back stage passes." he shrugged. When Clare asked Mel the questions she looked at him, then her. "Well, I'd like to say I know more famous people than Kota, but I don't. Some how he gets into all the good shows, he's been to what was it, two premiers?" she asked. "No one, I couldn't make it to the second premier. The first one was only because Betsey needed a date." he shrugged and smiled as both girls watched through the window. "Well, there's not too many places I can actually take you." he said honestly and lead them to the elevator. "I mainly stay in my office when I'm here." he added. "Can we eat? I'm starving." Mel asked and he laughed. "Are you hungry Clare?" he asked.
