You know, I wanted to know when Arajin's redemption will be, let's go to episode 9 and with no redemption I see a comment on Instagram saying that it wouldn't be bad if at the end of the anime Matakara and Arajin are no longer friends I would love it because I want Matakara recognize that your best friend is zabu. what do you think?

I don't think Arajin needs a redemption arc to be honest, it would be too predictable anyway and there are only 4 or 5 episodes left. Yeah he's annoying and all but he didn't do much, at least to the point that he needs redemption cause for me it's for characters who are truly horrible at the beginning, like he's not a bully, but Arajin is just dumb, in his own Shojo anime and fails to function as a normal human being (I still think he was too insensitive and crossed the lines in ep 8 but that's besides the point). Sure, his attitude affects others but he's not a horrible person, selfish yes, pathetic yes, not horrible. We know he has a good heart and pretends not to care. Matakara believes it too. He only wears a mask and that is why a lot of people still like him.

I made a post a while ago about how Arajin and Matakara were the same, but Matakara was written better and I still stand by it. There's a connection between the two, an obvious parallel. Matakara has this idealized version of Arajin like Arajin as one for Mahoro and they act the same in some ways. The difference is that Matakara actually grew up with Arajin, he didn't invent what he saw in his friend. They made a promise when they were younger and Arajin gave him a friendship stone. He was actually kind and caring, Matakara didn't imagine that, he lived it, so it makes sense that he thinks Arajin is still like that years later. His vision of him is not coming out of nowhere. He got attached to this Arajin who was truly himself, but he didn't see him grow. That's the disconnection.

From the moment Arajin ghosted Matakara and went on with his life, their bond was broken, only Matakara didn't realize it at first because Arajin was part of his dream of becoming Honkibito and one of the people who gave him strength. He thought the reason Arajin didn't talk to him anymore was because he wasn't strong enough. Arajin doesn't think he's strong enough as well, he wants validation (from Mahoro) and he flees from his fear of being weak. When Matakara lost his belief, he lost his identity too and that made him terrified. I think he knew from the beginning that something seemed off with Arajin, but he didn't want to believe it because that would mean he's alone and his beliefs and dream would be gone. Who will he be without it? So I don't think that Mata is completely fooled by Arajin but mostly he's scared because if his role model is not who he thought he was, he has no hope left. Matakara needed this realization to let go of Arajin.

What I mean by all of this is that the same thing is going to happen to Arajin. It's not necessarily redemption he needs but the same realization Matakara had in episode 8. He needs to break out of the spell and accept the true Mahoro so he can let go of her too.

Both characters are going to come face to face with the truth, with reality, and either they're going to bond again over this or they're going to be their own person without each other and find peace. But I think with this parallelism, they also seem to be made for each other like they're one piece of each other if that makes sense? The universe (aka Utsumi) wants them together (as friends or allies, enemies, whatever defines them.)

They're not going to change completely, especially Arajin, but I can see them accepting who they are in the end. Their perspectives on each other are going to change, their views, their beliefs, but not their true identity. In the 1001 nights tale, and notably in the Disney movie "Aladdin", Jasmine and Aladdin hide their true identities. Aladdin pretends to be a prince to get Jasmine's attention and marry her. She met him before but doesn't recognize him. It's only at the end that Ali Ababwa disappears, his mask is gone and his true self is revealed to her. Meanwhile, she hides that she's a princess and dresses as a "commoner" so she can see the world. Shit keeps happening to them when they're not true to themselves just like Aladdin and Jasmine.

So yeah, I guess just like those characters they're going to be free from themselves and it's going to free Senya and Ichiya as well because they're trapped in their bodies. Senya thinks that he needs to merge with Arajin to see Ichiya again but the only way I think is for them to be themselves without Arajin and Matakara. It's interesting that the moment they are both linked to Senya and Ichiya was a moment where they were running away from fear, the genies came when they were hopeless, so I think there's this idea that they can't be themselves if the genies are still possessing them and using them. But if they overcome their fears, they will get their bodies back, more exactly their mind and heart 👀.

Moreover, in the original Aladdin story, "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" which apparently takes place in China 👀, Aladdin is not perceived as a pure-hearted hero. He wants the princess but he's not interested in her personality or her feelings, so just like Arajin he's a flawed hero who gets what he wishes for...

So no, I don't expect a redemption for Arajin, especially with the tone of the show. Not because he's bad and he'll stay bad, but mostly because he's not the villain of the story, just a reflection of humanity. His character was intended to be like that and to be his true self he needs to let go of his fear, that's the only thing i can see for him. The real question is will his wish come true? He's supposed to get what he wants, get the girl. If it doesn't happen then something else waits for him and I really want to see what the resolution will be. I don't think that in the end Arajin and Matakara no longer being friends will be the answer, it's more than that. Although I imagined there is going to be a reconnection whether they're back being friends or not.

You know what? Maybe we were fooled as viewers. Matakara is actually Aladdin but with Jasmine's personality and Arajin is his Jasmine with Aladdin's personality. But because of their names we thought it was the other way around. Like one of his closest friends is literally Zabu= Abu. It's different than the original story but their dynamic is kinda the same. Idk, I can see it. They're interchangeable. But yeah, Aladdin gets what he wants, so all is going to end well for Arajin, but we have yet to see what will be Matakara's wish...

*SLAMS MY HANDS ONTO THE TABLE* hoo boy I have way too many hcs about mer language So disclaimer first, none of this has any basis in canon, it's just what I like to think about mer physiology. Moving on from that, I hc the mer language to not require breath, so their vocal cords are shaped rather differently from humans. Since mer have some sort of gills, based on the tweels and Azul's design (and if they don't and I'm remembering wrong that's honestly kinda stupid), they don't need air to breath. If they don't need air to breath, then how do they talk? My hc is that mer vocal cords are activated some other way (anatomy isn't my strong suit so I haven't decided the exact way). So mer do have their own language, but it's hella difficult for landdwellers to learn - so it's usually not taught on land. As for mer learning common language, that would be for emergencies - not many mer who aren't in service ventures or go to learn on land learn it well, but it's kinda like how Spanish is learned in the US - not learned well, but can be kinda understood. Anyways I have too many thoughts on mer biology and such, but ty for reading

ADDENDUM: Real life octopuses and moray eels don’t have gills in the shape or form we traditionally think of them on like… fish. I took a recent look at the Magical Archives and it seems that Jade and Azul’s pages talk about the markings on their sides (and some on their backs not seen in the usual frontal view) are fish-like gills. Weirdly enough, gills of this nature aren’t seen at all on more “human” merpeople. I talk a little more about that and the differences between them and the more human-like mermen guards stationed at the Atlantica museum here.

*puts on life science nerd glasses* 🤓 I’ve actually formally studied speech formation and A&P, so I can talk a bit about how normal (aka irl human) compares to some of the headcanons you shared! Of course, we don’t 100% know how merpeople anatomy and physiology is different and similar to humans (or how much fantasy races really borrow from real life), but I thought it would just be interesting to share the knowledge!

Firstly, breath is a requirement for speech because it is the movement of air across the vocal cords that results in the vibrations which become speech. Now, it’s not clear how or why merpeople are able to breathe underwater or why they don’t necessarily need to breathe air to survive; the respiratory system that typically brings air into the body must not be the same as a human’s, as that would likely result in water getting into the lungs and drowning them or crushing them from pressure. It’s entirely possible that merpeople have a hybrid respiratory system between that of a human and marine animals, so merfolk could have adapted such that the movement of water across their vocal cords produces a similar result as air does for humans. This, in addition to potentially having different shaped vocal cords, could mean a potential merlanguage has sounds that are very difficult or even impossible for non-merpeople to replicate.

Of course, that also begs the question 💦 would merpeople be able to even properly speak in their language if they were on land??? Because they wouldn’t be in the same kind of environment (and thus don’t have the same conditions as they do when they usually speak the language); this would impact how certain sounds are produced by the speech systems and then perceived by the ear.

I think merlanguage vs human languages isn’t exactly the same as Spanish vs English?? 🤔 Yes, some students may be in circumstances where their schools require them to learn a language other than the native tongue as part of their curriculum, but that’s because it can have practical applications even if they don’t become totally fluent or pursue higher level language difficulties. For example, especially in America, Spanish-speaking communities are a considerable part of the population and continues to grow, so Spanish is a popular second language. Mandarin Chinese is also on the rise globally, as China is becoming a powerhouse (so knowing how to communicate in Mandarin is smart for global enterprises). Many schools internationally also teach English as a universal second language because English is so prominently used.

In comparison, merpeople are so far geographically removed from humans and are given lore which states the majority of merpeople don’t really go to the surface world. It makes me wonder what the benefit of teaching human languages would be?? It’s not the same situation as the real world because it’s not a system where speakers of different languages would interact with each other super frequently (due to the split between land and sea). I understand maybe learning a second language for emergencies if there’s a good chance you’ll engage with populations speaking that language (like Spanish in the Americas), but it isn’t the case for merpeople because the chances of them interacting with a human doesn��t seem to be very high in places like the Coral Sea. It makes more sense to me that (if there is a native merlanguage or dialects) maybe merpeople would pick up some basic phrases of human languages (like “hello”, “thank you”, etc.) in their free time/by chance. There is no incentive to try learning another language even at a basic or conversational level unless maybe this was a path a merperson planned on pursuing further or professionally.

About Sydney and the temple (spoilers I guess): personally I like to be generous and think that Sydney, who we know is always wearing a holy pendant, is especially susceptible to outside influences like Auriga, potentially because of their dead parent's association with the temple. Additionally, worth pointing out that drugs are absolutely involved during both the Rite of Defilement & Rite of Promise, probably something similar to what gets used on Robin in the junkyard event, which is the sole Robin noncon event IIRC. Whatever incense the temple burns in the prayer room is a hallucinogenic that "opens the mind," and the "purification" process is explained to be how the temple forces Auriga's influence out of people... so I think by having corrupted sexy times in the special room people go to so they can get all Nine Inch Nails and get closer to (the) god(s), you're basically giving Sydney up on a platter to Auriga. The PC seems to be very similar to Sydney in that sense, given the TFs & Awareness mechanic. I also would like to note that Sydney's purity & Jordan's innocence have heavy overlap with the PC's Innocence state, where your Awareness is so far in the negatives that everything just flies right over your head, no trauma or weird shit here! 🙈🙉🙊 Harper may very well have slow roasted Sydney's brain into something easily influenced, too, after whatever happened to make Sydney possibly end up in the asylum, where Syd likely befriended the Ivory Wraith. We know Harper loves brainwashing- sorry, hypnotizing and drugging people, after all. The role of the asylum seems to be "fixing" people who break down from the constant nasty shit in town into a complacent and unaware state, so they can be further broken down and corrupted. (IMO the whole thing with Sydney possibly previously ending up in the asylum has got to do with why Sirris put the kibosh on Sydney & Kylar seeing each other. Pretty sure that's kind of implied to be the ritual gone wrong. Did Sydney witness what happened to Kylar's parents? I'm actually really curious about whether Kylar is "enlightened" or not, and if maybe that's why they're so... obsessive and weird.) I personally suspect that since Sydney's other parent once held Jordan's position, and Sydney may have accidentally proven themself "gifted" like Jordan & the PC, that is why the temple decided to make Sydney Jordan's successor. Jordan's whole deal seems to be that they are so oblivious to negative influences that they are willing the world into being more normal through sheer force of belief, though that doesn't seem to be working out too perfect for the town... probably because the Ivory Wraith is around, and people like Bailey, Briar, Quinn, and Remy are actively driving the town further and further into Auriga's grasp. Also, the PC exists, and most definitely is a similar sort of willful influence in their own way (hookah parlor), so... I wonder if maybe we're actually proving ourself to either become the Bishop's successor, or replace Sydney as Jordan's successor in the future, with the temple questline... 🤔

In conclusion: the town is caught up in a gang war between two opposing cults, and Sydney's just one more hapless victim like the rest. Just in their own, special way.

that was the most interesting part of the article how there wasnt anyone really under 40 to take the mantle of the previous generation and there isnt alot of actors under 40 that would make you go to the movies.

I think a part of that has to be how the media landscape and our access to celebrities have changed. The previous generation if you wanted to see your favourite actor you had to go to the theatres to see them. Now with social media, celebs are available through instagram, twitter, tik tok and your constantly bombarded by celeb updates, there opinions, video interviews which has led to an influx of people with parasocial relationships with celebs. The younger generation of actors have utilized these for their brands but at the cost that air of mystery that clear separtion between celeb and fan is gone. Fans can easily access to there favs on social media without ever having to spend the money to watch them in theatres.

That didnt really happen in the past like the previous gen of stars had an air of mystery to them you only had access to them through magazine interviews , red carpets, gossip but thats pretty much it.

Can i throw you a bone for some meta? So there’s a foot note in the seven seas en trans of mdzs that’s been echoing in my brain for the past month (vol 3 pg 56):

[The Four Great Grudges of ancient times are] “murder of one’s father (not patricide), robbery of one’s wife, annihilation of one’s country, and slaughter of one’s clan. A som will not have fulfilled his proper duty until the wrong is avenged, even at the cost of his life.”

Unfortunately I can’t find the Chinese source term (it should be somewhere in chps 51-55, when LWJ shoves some medicinal herbs at WWX’s burn mark despite his leg being bitten by the giant turtle monster.) Anyway, this totally reframed the narrative for me cuz I got thinking about who actually followed through, and the ‘statue of limitations’ on that vengeance. And then a lot about how Jiang Cheng was able to get his revenge, but he specifically didn’t let Jin Ling follow through on his, despite the Ghost General offering up his own head. Does Jiang Cheng actually have any rights to pursue further vengeance against Wei Wuxian after his first death? (And as a side note, how come no one ever calls him Jiang Wanyin except when he introduces himself to Lan Xichen and that final scene at the Jiang family mausoleum? It’s even like that in the donghua.) Then whether Lan Sizhui, after having been formally adopted into the Lan clan, has any right to vengeance at all. Is it like ‘war times, war crimes’ and then in peace times nothing you can do about it?

I've been sitting on this a while, as I wasn't quite sure how to approach this - so apologies for the late response.

It's a very interesting question! And admittedly, it's not something I paid much attention to during my reading of the 7s version.

I'm not sure how seriously people take the little added extras 7s have 'bestowed' upon us, to be honest. They added a character bio for NHS that stated his weapon as 'crying' - which is hilarious, but not really canon.. well 🤔 They also rather infamously added a character bio for JFM that looked suspiciously like Madam Yu wrote it herself - just to name a few! So personally, I do take everything they add as 'extras' with a pinch of salt.

But, as you took the time to send such a detailed and interesting ask - we can certainly have a look at it! 🤗

These are my own opinions of course, and others may have different ideas. But as I said, this is just for fun.

Personally I don't think JC has any right at revenge against WWX in either lifetime. But since we're referencing the 'Four Great Grudges' as a reason - his apparent claim would be 'slaughter of one's clan'. But WWX did not slaughter the clan. Although the Wen sect gave WWX as the thinly veiled reason for coming to the sect, he was not the real cause and it was not by his own hand. JC even admitted later in the novel that the Wen sect would have eventually attacked either way. If we look at it another way though, JC definitely got revenge for the death of his father and the slaughter of his clan. He contributed in bringing the Wen sect down and (practically) annihilated the entire clan with the rest of the cultivation world. So he's had his revenge, that's for certain - and technically, that is very much thanks to WWX!

As for JL, his reason for revenge, according to the 'Four Great Grudges' would be 'murder of one's father'. This is a tough one. Firstly, his father died during a surprise attack on WWX - where WWX was just trying to defend himself during an ambush. Granted JZX was only there to stop the attack, but WWX wasn't sure if he should trust him. Since JZX was the one who invited him in the first place, it's difficult not to be suspicious! JZX wasn't very fair in asking WWX to back down first, when he was the one who was being attacked either. At this point WWXs trust is broken, so it's a big ask for him to step down first and put his life at risk. Not that it excuses the fact he was killed of course. JZXs death, although tragic, was an accident after all, so it technically wasn't murder as such. Not that anyone thought that at the time, they had already painted WWX as evil no matter what he did. But I guess in JLs eyes it was murder either way.

I'm not sure what JL knows about what happened back then - but considering the rumours and JC being his uncle, it probably had WWX as the devil incarnate. As JL was only a little baby at the time, JC might have exacted revenge for him by proxy after leading the siege at the burial mounds - so does that count? Granted, JC didn't kill WWX - but he did die during the siege.

Eventually, JL does attempt (albeit, perhaps halfheartedly) to exact revenge on WWX, once his identity is publicly revealed. Once he knows MXY is definitely WWX, he subsequently stabs him. Thankfully WWX lives and it seems JL is actually relieved about that!

In the end JL focuses all his hatred and blame on WN - because he's gotten to know WWX and has realised he's not this awful person people say. After all, WWX has saved him and others a number of times now. It's JLs own choice to let the past stay in the past in the end. WN offers JL the opportunity to take his frustration out on him, while they're sailing towards Lotus Pier near the end of the novel - but he doesn't. JL later witnesses WN being punched straight through the heart, just like WN did to his father all those years ago. This all happened while WN was trying to protect JC and JL from the incredibly ripped fierce corps that is NMJ. I think JL does indeed have some of his mother's good traits after all. In the end he lets all this hatred go and moves on. So I guess he doesn't technically fulfil his duty according to the 'Four Great Grudges' - but you know what, I don't think either of his parents would want him to anyway. Yes, even JZX!

Finally, onto LSZ!

I don't think LSZ would take revenge on people for what happened to his clan to be honest. He has the same core values of both WWX and LWJ, because of the way he was brought up. Yes, WWX took revenge back when he escaped the burial mounds, but WWX was not in the right frame of mind at that point in time. He was utterly traumatised and his mental state was incomprehensible. But WWX doesn't take revenge in his second life. He lets the past stay in the past, moving on to have the happily ever after he deserves, with LWJ. He knows full well, no good will come from revenge in the end.

If LSZ was going to take revenge, who would he take it out on? The whole cultivation world participated in the siege that killed his family. Including to a lesser extent, the Lan clan. His deceased relatives even resurrected to help WWX and everyone fighting against the corpses during the second siege. Just like WWX, the Wen remnants saved people who had been there during the first siege, as well as their descendants. People who might have contributed to their deaths. Yet they helped save them. I think even if A-Yuan wanted to seek retribution, this would be going directly against not only his dead relatives wishes and sacrifice - but everything WWX and LWJ have attempted to protect him from. LWJ went to great lengths to cover up LSZs connection to the Wen sect, even giving him the Lan last name - all in order to keep him safe. LSZ would never disregard what either of them have done for him, even if he wanted revenge. At least I don't think so!

As for the 'statue of limitations', obviously I'm not sure what the laws and such are in MDZS - but from the fact people are still after revenge on WWX some 13 years later, I'd say there probably isn't any statue of limitations! So I guess it's just a free-for-all!

As one of the cultivators at the second siege said:

"...With the works of karma, it’s never too late for revenge!”....

*Your side note on JC's name. Others do use his courtesy name; such as JGY, JGS and LWJ. We don't tend to hear him interact with others that often and when we do it's usually as "Sect Leader Jiang" or something similar. Other than family or friends, when he is directly called by his birth name, this is out of disrespect from people he has usually angered (cultivators on Dafan Mountain and so on). Obviously WWX uses his birth name out of familiarity, as he does with LWJ. But apart from that, people use his courtesy name or honorifics ☺️

I’m already way outside my comfort zone writing Dubcon this extremely dubcon.

The last two scenes of him touching Daniel while he slept/was knocked out were never part of the original plan but sometimes you don’t write the story - the story tells you what to write. This is the case.

That being said - it’s not that Terry does not have a conscience - he does - and he has a sense of right and wrong - they’re just based on his own specific criteria.

This is why he can/does justify things to himself (and you the reader).

There is a reason Daniel is important to him - it’s just that Daniel (and you the readers ) do not know it yet.

This fuels his actions and his belief he is, in fact, doing the right thing for Daniel - for them both.

He knew he’d have to bring Daniel kicking and screaming but that he’ll eventually be able to make him see - and that it will be forgiven as it was necessary - kind of like the ends will justify the means.

That’s where the whole Terry has something to tell Daniel but knows - right now - that even if he listened, he wouldn’t understand or believe - Terry hasn’t broken him down enough so to speak.

Also - an ego thing - Terry wants Daniel to want it - needs him begging for it. This also helps him stop before he goes to that point.

If not, it also won’t match with the idea he has in his head / the reality he has convinced himself is real and currently playing out.

A Daniel who wants and loves him back.

As for the does Daniel have the tiniest clue - I’ll just post what I wrote in the discord a few days(?) back as it kind of touched on it.

From Daniel’s POV though - I’m thinking and approaching it like would he be expecting that - they were never lovers - he hasn’t seen Terry in thirty years - who shows up suddenly and then fucks right off - only to mock him in front of Tony the Tiger - then to come back and torment him after basically ignoring him after the apology - which he thinks is bullshit - Terry seeming hellbent on destroying his life and marriage under the guise of crazy karate drama - like 1985 part two - then to get the shit beat out of him - kidnapped and drugged - that’s got to be confusing as all hell - and he would have no reason to think Terry wants him carnally. That’s the I’m thinking anyway.

And bless him but the boy can be a bit 🤔 somethings. I always think about him telling his Mom he got the best bonsai tree when he never set his eyes on a bonsai tree before 😆

Also we know form KK1 that he does carry some insecurity - in regards to what he is lacking in terms in comparison to the rich kids etc

I think Terry had always been in love with Daniel in some way shape and form but after the events of 85 and getting clean - for his own sanity and sobriety - he pushed it down - which is very similar to Daniel. Daniel was attracted to him but had no reason back then to think Terry was interested as well - first he just thought Terry was a good guy helping him out and then of course the betrayal - which we know form CK how that affected him / and why would he think a man like that would want him at that point - just some kid (so to speak), and then when it’s revealed any hope he had that Terry might would be dashed - thinking he was only doing it for revenge and loyalty to Kreese.

For the same reason - Terry stayed away - didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole - maybe could convince himself it was all a fever dream fuelled by the drugs etc etc

Like Mike - let sleeping dogs lie.

Until he couldn’t - and that box holding it all ot busted at the seams - which is why we are where we are.

And - there is a reason why he’s doing this - in addition to the obsessive love he has - and like his conscience - it’s his version of love - what he thinks love is anyway.

I think my attraction to Roy is interesting because it's an outlier. He's not my classic type at all.

Yeah there's a crossover but my taste (in men) is far more like Jack, Ken or Howard. They're well-dressed and good looking (like Roy), but they're emotionally intelligent, quietly confident/self-assured, and passionate people. They care about themselves and others, while sporting that "classic hollywood" look. They're also featured with blue colour-coding. At first glance they don't stand out other than the fact they're pretty. Which in the case of those three their attractiveness is stated in canon. Weirdly their personalities are portrayed as turn-offs though. At least according to other cishet men in their sources.

Howard cus he comes off as a prick due to being wealthy. Ken cus he's too "soft" (aka feminine). Jack cus he hates abuses of authority and speaks up freely.

Then we have Roy. Who fucking sucks. His entire personality stinks. He's not nice, he's cares about nothing (except money), and he completely lacks confidence or self-assurance. The total opposite of everything I like. Aside from the "classic hollywood" look of course. But that too is what everything else is: a defence mechanism.

Roy is very much a character who doesn't like himself. Which is why he acts the way he does. He thinks he's the worst motherfucker ever, so he acts like it. Fulfils the expectations. At least after the "Im so cool, successful and sexy" projection doesn't stick or dissolves under any scrutiny. Which always deeply upsets him btw. Once someone calls him like it is, he gets extremely nasty. 90% of the times he's at his worst is when he's been hit somewhere he's insecure about.

Which is his money, status, appearance, funniness or personality. Basically anything. None of this an excuse for his behaviour, of course. (As a sidebar, I do want to say that I don't condone an ounce of his beliefs or actions. He's actually pretty much my polar opposite in terms of those). However, I would argue that if he did have confidence in himself, he would be my type. Which is exactly why "My Roy" is completely different from canon. I fixed him okay.

The reason I think this is because he's kind of like, if the traits in the "decent guys" kinda went wrong. In order for Roy to be as horrible as he is, he needs emotional intelligence. How else can he read people so well? Like how he's literally the only person who recognises that Cole isn't happy in his personal life. And he kinda chases Cole to be honest about it. For the wrong reasons, sure. But Roy wasn't left much choice after how icy Cole treats him (for good reason!). A lot of their interactions honestly come off as missed opportunity to me. They could've helped each other grow if they tried lol.

Anyway - Roy is also passionate. Yeah he pretends its about money, but I don't really buy that. I'm more talking about the things he actually puts energy into... which is people. There's a reason he name drops tons of people we don't even meet. How he's able to introduce people thoughtfully (such as Johnny Stompando, Cole and Dr Fontaine), using their personalities as well as what they do. And why he pulls in favours to get Cole as his partner. I genuinely think he perceives Cole as a kindred spirit and then is disappointed. He was right though. Cola was just too proud to admit it.

Roy also gets vividly upset when Candy gets stabbed because he thinks thats a horrible way to die. (I have further thoughts on this tidbit as well 🤔, but thats for another time). He immediately covers up this genuine horror with pretending to be upset about his money. Nice slip of the mask babe. One of many.

The only thing he's missing is the confidence to act on these passions/people skills in a way that isn't self-destructive. I don't think he was ever loved. Either by family or the person its implied he fell in love with. The thing he used to comfort himself with was the "American Dream", and even though he technically achieved that (minus the wife), he's not happy. Which is why he's such a foul cynic. His entire persona he created perpetuates his loneliness too. The man is stuck in a self-fulfilling prophecy. And it's sad.

So Roy is the outlier because he's like if my type never self-reflected or had therapy. And that is what compels me. Not what is, but what could be. Obviously "i could fix him" is not a real thing I'd ever try or recommend, but this man is pixels. My precious pixels...

(also the whole queer coding that can imply internalised homophobia alongside all his other problems)

Now, the fact that you didn’t know about Hongjoong before doing the reading makes it 10000x more impressive, because I think you were definitely spot on with your description of him! (From what I know as a fan, of course… I know artists don’t show their whole self to the public, but I’d bet other Atiny would agree). I’m not kidding when I tell you I could totally picture him in my head while reading! That’s actually what made me a fan of Ateez and of him, particularly; I really admire his drive, motivation and perseverance, and I can assure you he has the next 10 years of his life planned out 😂 He became his company’s first trainee, a small company that had no means to compete with the bigger agencies and wasn’t even taking new people at the time. As their leader, he guided the group to domestic and international success (like, they’re on tour right now filling 20k seat venues! 🥹) and helped keep the company afloat during the pandemic. Even though their music is quite conceptual and not the general public’s cup of tea, they’ve managed to create a loyal fandom, and succeed while staying true to their essence and vision.

It’s also interesting that you mentioned he has “amazing energy”, because I felt that way about him right away, since I stumbled upon the first Ateez video I ever watched, like “wow, this dude is different…”, but I’ve also seen a few tarot readers on here say the same thing! Really, he is a great person: kind, compassionate and caring, he’s very aware of social issues and is involved in a lot of charity work too 🥹

I think countries like Ukraine and Italy have shined the most when they lean into their own culture and language. Like, Ukraine's English-language entries (2018, 2019) have been very meh pop mainstream BUT whenever they send something more folksy with actual Ukrainian roots they tend to shine - Jamala in 2016, GO_A last year. I think all of Italy's entries for almost a decade have been in Italian and good for them!!!! (2016's entry was like 90% in Italian and I really loved that song too). Italy's entries in general have been consistently so high-quality recently and I'm glad it finally paid dividends last year!!

Soooo I’ve just been sitting here and thinking about a) what the big twist in ep 4 will be that will recontextualize at least some parts of the earlier episodes, and b) where Jake Lockley, the other alter from the comics, is and when he will make his appearance. And I think I have a theory: we’ve already seen Jake. He’s been around since episode 1. And Episode 4 will simply reveal where and how he’s been active.

Now, I’m hardly the first one to assert that episode 4 may be Jake’s debut. And it’s totally possible I have this all wrong, so, you know, take what follows with a shaker of salt.

I think Marc is the alter who deals with the supernatural threats (and acts as Khonshu’s avatar), Jake handles the human ones, and Steven is of course the pacifist who has up until now been entirely unaware of the other two.

I first began to suspect that we’d already glimpsed Jake after watching the bathroom scene at the end of the first episode. The first reflection Steven turns to is moving independently of himself but is not speaking, despite us clearly hearing Marc’s voice at the same time. And in episode 2 on the surveillance footage, the man who walks out of the bathroom is wearing a look of menace that, given what we’ve seen of Marc, feels fairly incongruous with Marc’s character.

We’re led to believe that Marc is the super violent one because he is a mercenary right? That makes sense. And that’s what the writers want us to believe. But we only ever see him being violent when he dons the Moon Knight suit to fight supernatural threats, and he furthermore expresses genuine remorse and shame when Steven confronts him about hurting people. He’s obviously a capable soldier and a practical man who is willing to get his hands dirty if needs must. He’s protective and willing to kill for the ones he loves. But his actions bother him, no matter how necessary he feels them to be. They distresses him, even as he soldiers on with his mission.

I haven’t read the comics, but from what I gather, Jake is the rough-and-ready cab driver, the alter that can deal with the most unpleasant and unseemly tasks. This does not mean he is necessarily a man who delights in violence (though maybe he does?) or is devoid of empathy—just protective to a new extreme and not as interested in the philosophical distinctions of good and evil, particularly when it comes down to a question of survival. Jake will always choose the survival of the system over anything else, no matter what. Soooo… what if it was Jake who took over in that town in the Alps and murdered—barehanded—those people who tried to take the scarab? What if it was Jake, the savvy big-city cab driver, who kills Steven’s pursuers on the road and repositions the cupcake truck to be driving backward??

This is a bit of an even further stretch, but what if while Jake can deal with the regular human threats, he also can’t summon the suit? He isn’t worthy according to Khonshu, not yet anyway. So as things stand, what if Marc handles all the supernatural business while Jake steps in for the mundane but much more psychologically and physically brutal tasks? Things that Marc would definitely be loathe to do, to say nothing of Steven?

Idk, just a thought, dunno if I’m right and I know just the barest bits about the comics and Jake Lockley, so it’s just a thought. I’d be curious to know what ya’ll think 🤔

Court of Darkness Part 7 - Grayson Hotz Route

Grayson is a very quiet guy haha! But he really seems to like his horse called Nox. I guess I always viewed Grayson as more of a butler so I didn't expect him to be a knight. I mean, he apparently makes really good tea, haha! It was cute how much the heroine complimented his tea and then helped him with cleaning up, it seems like a rare thing for him to allow someone to help him considering Roy and Sherry's reactions haha. I guess I never really thought about whether Grayson could use magic or not, but I'm not too surprised he can't. Lol at the heroine quick to believe that she's the same thing as Grayson, a Mundane who can't use magic when she can😅 Anyway, Joel is quite suspicious. Interesting that he has a magical artifact that allows him to use magic above Sherry's A rank, is that why these artifacts are forbidden?🤔 Really rude of him to say to Grayson that he did nothing yesterday when a building collapsed since he was able to help with his magic. Grayson helped tend to the wounds of the injured and that's definitely not nothing! I guess I can understand why Joel might be obsessed with the artifact though, he's been powerless all his life and probably wanted to use magic, so now that there's an opportunity and it's even so strong, how could he let go of it?

Let me just say, a drunk Grayson kissing the heroine was not something I expected lol! I honestly thought he was just going to talk more than usual😂 LMAO when the heroine said Grayson is such a good kisser that he could represent the Invidian national team for it😂😂😂 I guess Grayson is one of those drunks that kisses everyone lolll, that is definitely very different from his usual character lol. Fenn and them definitely should have warned her lol. Anyway, sad that Grayson doesn't remember anything even though it was obvious he wouldn't. I'm glad the heroine finally got the opportunity to tell him what happened, especially since she definitely couldn't hide it haha. Sadly, his face is too blank to know how he really feels about it other than guilt for doing such a thing to her without her consent. She kinda showed a bit of her feelings by implying that she liked it though😆 It's so nice to see how hard the heroine tried learning swordsmanship from Grayson and how well everything ended up working out for the competition and for her own confidence! All this time, she's always discouraged herself thinking that she's definitely a "mundane" who can't use magic and thinks that she can't really do anything in terms of magic studies, but through becoming friends with Grayson and seeing how hard he works, she's learnt that it's really fulfilling to see your hard work become fruitful and I think that's nice.

Awww Grayson actually made his way to speak to the heroine the moment she entered the room! That's so cute! He even blushed when Sherry and them noticed hahaha. Grayson hugging the heroine when she said she was cold was so cuteee. It's sad to think that Grayson trusts Joel so much, because Joel definitely doesn't think he's wrong about the magic artifact thing. To think Grayson had to witness his uncle, basically his father figure, an upstanding mundane knight be consumed by a magic artifact that he couldn't control and caused many people to die because of it. That's so terrible.. Can totally understand why Grayson is so against these artifacts. I mean, if someone he admired and that probably lived his whole life without magic succumbed to it causing a most terrible result, how could he bear to watch his best friend go through something like that again? Anyway, omg it was so hot knowing Grayson and the heroine finally showed their love for each other through their incessant kisses🥰🥰

I'm so disgusted that Joel decided to put so many people especially Sherry and the heroine in danger just to "test" Grayson to see if he would use the magic artifact to save them. I feel so bad for Grayson. All he wanted was to have the power to protect Sherry and the heroine, so he agreed to use the magical artifact with Joel, but now he's just tormented by the guilt on relying on it, as well as the painful realisation that he can't take it off himself, and that the more he uses it, the more he will lose his mind and his life force. I wonder if this is why Joel is the way that he is. He has probably used it so much that he's lost any feelings of empathy towards people he once thought were important to him. Why does Joel want to kidnap Grayson though? Anyway, I'm glad the heroine believes in Grayson and his mental fortitude towards repelling the desires of using the magical artifact, but I'm worried haha. All's well ends well I guess~ I don't really care for Joel, but I care for Grayson so I'm happy that Joel isn't being put to death, but I wonder if he will change? I mean, it's never really been stated whether he's so twisted because of the artifact or himself, like it's probably both, but how less crazy is he without it? Loll. Anyway, at least the heroine and Grayson finally get to share their love for each other in peace now lol.

Overall, I like Grayson and I don't mind his route, but it's not very exciting I guess. Things take a while to pick up in terms of plot and even then, Joel isn't the most interesting so it was boring in that sense. However, I really liked Grayson's growth alongside the heroine. I liked how we got to discover how sweet and kind he was, and then understand how difficult it can feel to be a mundane, but seeing Grayson persevere and do his best in things he could do and improve on really made it heartwarming. I liked how by being beside him, the heroine learnt to try her best even if she's not great at something like swordsmanship, and I really liked how she supported Grayson when he was in doubt. I think Grayson's inner turmoil especially when he used the magical artifact was done nicely, and even though things got resolved pretty fast and easily, it was cool. But yeah, the route was missing some sort of spark for me imo, but I still enjoyed it and thought it was sweet to see the interactions between Grayson and the heroine, they were so cute!

The discussion of 2016-2017 Alex & Taylor, from bringing up Lana (who I don't think was any threat to Taylor when it came to Alex), got me thinking about all the stuff from that time & the beginning of the end for Taylor. We know Taylor was starting to get skinnier & seemed lonely from her Insta. The matching tattoos just screamed insecurity, not "love" to me. Even though Alex was on 🔥 for the EYCTE tour (Miles is his comfeh person), as mod recently mentioned, in 2016 Alex was seen drunk & reading alone, while he's supposedly on cloud 9? 🤔 Now I know mod, bringing up Alexa is not your fave, so sorry & while I think she's overrated, she does kind of titillate me because I mean, she is clearly a drug to or a bewitcher of Alex & I pretty much eat it up (although of course Mr. glutton for punishment needs to just stop!🤚)... I'm sure some people think it's stupid & simplified to give so much power to Alexa, but as says the law of Occam's Razor (lol, bring the philosophy 🤣), usually the simplest explanation is the correct one & with Alex, it pretty much always goes back to Alexa!...Anyway, I think Taylor really should have been scared when Alex saw Alexa with Skarsgaård. That fucking obviously bothered Alex to his core & he just couldn't "get the thought of you (Alexa) & him (Skarsgaård) out of my (Alex's) head," lol. That kind of kicked off Alexa being around again during Taylor era. Then there was that footage of Alexa being at (I think) Zackery Michael's pool party with Alex & Taylor- Alex does his "Smooth" karaoke vid & Alexa does a dance with someone (can't remember, maybe Zach Dawes?) later in the day. Then of course comes Alexa's 5th of November (2017) birthday fireworks make out. Which come on, totally happened, fuck their denials! 🤦‍♀️ To top it off, Louise may have already been lurking at this point?! Taylor is a dumb bitch, no doubt about it, but I sort of feel for her- if that was a great love, people just aren't paying attention. They pretty much had part of 2015 where things seems good & at that time he could have very well been fucking around with Alexandra Savior! Sorry to be savage, but that "relationship" was just a heady sex & drugs romp that would have been a summer fling at most for regular people, that just went on way too long because Alex is a chickenshit dude who puts off breakups. 😑

I think this pretty much sums it up except for the Savior part. I don't think he was ever romantically interested in her.

Alex picks the wrong women, realises it and then painfully draws out the break-up for everyone involved. And whenever Alexa needs her ego stroked she's calling him because she's still friends with enough people of his inner circle that she always knows what's going on in his life and when she can dip in.

Oh my. Just reminded again, with the fun of having trouble finding suitable convenience foods--to the point of canned soups--because special dietary requirements. (Especially when the health issues making that necessary are also what's causing a lot of the need for low spoons food to begin with!)

I was really thrilled a few years back when someone I actually knew offline first felt a need to reblog some food photos/recipe link from me, just to add on some shitty comment. To the effect of, "Why can Americans never bake anything from scratch?!"

Yeah, that one involved a cake mix. But, the photos looked really good, and I reblogged because I thought someone else who could use the recipe might be interested. If I had decided to make the thing, I would have needed to do it totally from scratch! Not that there is a single thing wrong with saving the extra time and effort.

And this person had reason to know that this was the case. While being one of the likely relatively few Americans they knew IRL 🙄 They still clicked through on the link, saw the recipe called for a cake mix, came back to the post--and decided to reblog it with a snotty addition like that anyway.

(And this is also someone living with chronic illness/pain? 🤔 Weird flex, but okay. Maybe added nationalistic digs were just too tempting.)

There are some pretty big differences between just not always having the best filters (hello!), and going straight out of your way to say gratuitously mean things. And too often trying to take your own frustrations out on what you view as safe targets.

Just one example out of that particular person dealing with me over the years, and they had said much worse things directly to me. Though that was pretty much the last straw. I hadn't talked to them for several years before they followed me on here, and yeah not enough had changed there. Just no point interacting with people sometimes.

I had basically tried to stay polite because that was a case where I liked their partner a lot better (and still do), and preferred to stay on decent terms there. Haven't interacted with that person at all online in years now, and haven't been getting out enough to need to deal with them face to face. Just as glad, really.

Anyway, I'm still apparently kind of salty about that.

On the brighter side, this also reminded me that I had been wanting to make a banana pudding cake, of a type I used to like but had basically forgotten existed. And I have unexpected bonus bananas!

The original calls for cake mix, instant pudding, and Cool Whip--and I wish I could just make it that way. Between ingredient availability issues, the celiac, and cutting back on the sugar also being a good idea? It's everything from scratch. Including whipping some cream with a whisk and my bad shoulder 🙃

But yeah, those lazy tacky Americans and their mixes...
